Background With the demanding nature of educational counseling, understanding the interplay between psychological states such as psychological flow and psychological exhaustion is crucial for counselor well-being. Previous research has highlighted the defensive role of a heightened psychological flow in mitigating psychological burnout emphasizing the need to explore this relationship. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between psychological flow and psychological exhaustion among educational counselors using the Flow State Scale (FSS) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory–Educators Survey (MBI-ES). Methods A total of 30 educational counselors were purposively (randomly) selected ensuring diversity across educational settings. The FSS scores measured the psychological flow, whereas the MBI-ES scores assessed the psychological exhaustion among the participants. Demographic data, counseling experience, and educational backgrounds were collected. Karl Pearson’s correlation coefficient test and multiple regression analysis were applied for the comparison of the data obtained. Results The participants demonstrated diverse demographic profiles with a balanced gender distribution and varied counseling experiences and educational backgrounds. Furthermore, Pearson’s correlation analysis revealed negative correlation between the mean FSS scores (psychological flow) and the mean MBI-ES scores (psychological exhaustion) for the total sample, as well as in case of both the male and female respondents individually, indicating an inverse relationship between psychological flow and psychological exhaustion in the sample studied. Conclusion The present study provides valuable insights into the inverse relationship between psychological flow and psychological exhaustion among educational counselors. The observations made in the present study have practical implications for interventions aimed at enhancing counselors’ psychological well-being by fostering positive psychological states. However, in future, more longitudinal studies are needed to establish causal relationships because of the cross-sectional nature of the present study.

Illegitimate tasks are destructive and unavoidable in the workplace. Although previous research has demonstrated the negative impact of illegitimate tasks on employee health, we know little about the remedies that could alleviate such an adverse effect, particularly from the perspective of employees' action. Drawing on the job demands-resources model, we propose that employees' job crafting can alleviate the relationship between illegitimate tasks and their psychological and physical health problems. We tested our hypotheses using a sample of 213 community social workers in China, from whom we collected data at three time periods. The results showed that illegitimate tasks could lead to both psychological and physical health problems through the mediating role of perceived work overload. Job crafting could moderate the relationship between illegitimate tasks and perceived work overload, which means community social workers with a higher level of job crafting perceive lighter work overload when faced with illegitimate tasks, and thus, they experience less psychological exhaustion and somatic symptoms. Overall, our study suggests that employees can proactively craft their tasks to make themselves less susceptible to illegitimate tasks. ABSTRACT Objectives: to synthesize research on factors associated with Burnout Syndrome (BS) in police officers. Methods: a scoping review was conducted without temporal or language restrictions. Data were exported to EndNote to remove duplicates and then imported into the Rayyan app for organization, article selection, and data extraction. Results: a total of 4559 publications were identified, with 50 studies included in the review. Research conducted in Brazil and the United States predominated. Certain occupational factors were found to be more closely linked to police officers compared to other professions, including law enforcement, frequency of interaction with suspects and criminals, rank, dissatisfaction with the organization, and civilian confrontations. Conclusions: certain aspects of the police profession contribute to BS, even in countries with better working conditions in public security. It is recommended to prioritize health promotion initiatives for these professionals.

Objective: to analyze the association of occupational burnout and sociodemographic data in nursing professionals from a second level of care hospital in Mexico. Method: Analytical, cross-sectional study, population of 78 nursing professionals, the 30-item Occupational Burnout Scale (EDO) was used. Descriptive and inferential statistics were obtained, such as frequencies, percentages and Pearson's Chi2. Results: An association was found between occupational burnout and academic training (p=.018), absences from work (p=.047) and gender (p=.947). Introduction: Burnout syndrome is a condition resulting from chronic exposure to interpersonal stressors in the workplace. Faculty in the health field are particularly susceptible to burnout syndrome due to frequent emotional stress., Objectives: To identify an association between the dimensions of burnout syndrome and the coping strategies these faculty have adopted., Methods: An observational, analytical and cross-sectional study was conducted in 2021 with 164 faculty from a public university. The Maslach Burnout Inventory and the Brief-Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced were used. The analysis included descriptive statistics and Spearman correlation, using SPSS 16.0., Results: Emotional exhaustion was high for 54.88% of the sample. Depersonalization scored high for 97.57% of the participants, whereas personal accomplishment was high for 100%. These results are no indication of burnout syndrome, which requires high scores for emotional exhaustion and depersonalization and low scores for personal accomplishment. Active coping, planning, and positive reframing were the most used strategies, which are aimed at solving problems and are considered protective against this condition. Denial, behavioral disengagement, and substance use, which are focused on avoidance and emotion, with potentially negative effects, were the least used. The correlations between the dimensions of burnout syndrome and the coping factors were weak or very weak., Conclusions: Although burnout syndrome was not identified, the sample was at a high risk of becoming ill due to emotional exhaustion. This study aimed to point out the relationship between psychological exhaustion and psychological hardiness among Al-Nahrain University instructors. The sample of the study which consisted of 100 respondents was selected randomly. The results of psychological exhaustion were interpreted in the light of Gestalt Theory, the Bartone's (1999) model, whereas the results of psychological hardiness were analyzed in light of Kobasa's (1979), Maddi's (2002) theories. Findings of the study showed a correlation between the psychological exhaustion and psychological hardiness at the level of significance .05. The findings also revealed that the participants do not suffer from psychological exhaustion and that the calculated T-value amounted to (7.6) compared to the tabular value (8,98) at a significance level (0.01) which is not significant. Moreover, the participants were characterized by psychological hardiness; the calculated T value scored (9.8), compared to the tabular value (3.98) at a significance level of (0.01), which is significant. Objective: To analyze the scientific productions available in the literature on the incidence of Burnout Syndrome in the professionals of the nursing team. Methods: Integrative literature review conducted in March 2020, in the LILACS, SCIELO, BDENF and PubMed databases. Sample composed of nine articles, after selection based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria previously established. The controlled descriptors of the Health Science Descriptors (DeCS) "Professional Exhaustion", "Nursing Team", "Prevalence" and the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) were used "Burnout Professional", "Nursing Team", " Prevalence ", using the Boolean operator and to perform the research. Results: The Burnout Syndrome among nursing professionals has a high incidence, showing more pronounced values in mobile emergency care services, but with something different, a reality also in the context of primary health care. The profile of the professionals most affected by the syndrome were women, with less training time and shorter time in the unit, double employment, high demands for work with low control and social support. Conclusion: There is a need for organizational restructuring, opening institutional spaces for discussions between managers and nursing professionals, in the direction of developing strategies aimed at promoting workers' health. This study aims to know the level of psychological exhaustion in the teachers of primary education, Tlemcen state. It was based on the descriptive curriculum, and the Maslash scale of psychological exhaustion was applied, to 80 professors and professors, they were chosen in an intentional way; and after processing, the results show the presence of a very high level of psychological exhaustion among primary education teachers, and the absence of statistically significant differences in psychological stress due to the variable of gender (male, female) and professional experience. Caregivers of elderly people with neurodegenerative diseases are highly vulnerable to stressful situations and mood disorders due to their work conditions. Stress has been associated with an increased risk of developing depression, and studies have supported that caffeine consumption can act as an independent protective factor for disorder. This study investigated indexes of stress and depression symptoms in caregivers of the elderly with neurodegenerative diseases, their caffeine intake and the association between stress and depressive symptoms with the salivary biomarkers cortisol, nitric oxide and DNA damage. Participants (n = 81) were recruited from the community between July 2018 and April 2019. Stress was assessed using Lipp's Inventory of Stress Symptoms, and depressive symptoms were measured using the Hamilton Depressive Rating Scale. Participants provided a 72-hour recall of their diet to measure caffeine intake. Saliva samples were used to measure cortisol and nitric oxide. DNA damage was measured through micronuclei frequency after swabbing on the buccal mucosa. The majority of caregivers displayed stress and depressive symptoms. Stress was associated with educational level, tobacco use and total DNA damage. The indexes found in this population were not associated with caffeine intake or other salivary biomarkers, indicating that only some salivary molecules could be used as biomarkers for stress-related disorders. Caregivers of the elderly are exposed to stressful situations daily, however, we observed that educational level can reduce the psychological symptoms of stress and thus reduce the negative impact on quality of life. Introduction: The Health World Organization estimates that, worldwide, the 15 % of the population lives with some form of disability, but an increase of its prevalence is expected. Objective: To determine the levels of psychological exhaustion or burnout syndrome in the family caregiver of disabled people, linked to a project of community care. Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional study of 150 family caregiver of disabled people was carried out. They had the support of the Foundation of Integral Care and Development to the Girl, Boy, Adolescent and Family, settled in Portoviejo city, Manabí province, Ecuador, from January to May, 2019. To determine the level of psychological exhaustion the Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire was used that consists of 22 articles divided into 3 subscales: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal realization at work. They also registered data as sex, origin and type of disability. Results: There was a prevalence of the female sex (121 for 80.6 %). The psychological exhaustion was from mean to high in more than 70.0 % of the caregiver and the high emotional fatigue component was the most frequent, followed by depersonalization. The personal realization was considered from low to mean in more than 85.0 % of those interviewed. Conclusions: A tendency to the increment of the emotional fatigue in caregiver of people with disability was verified, which could be associated with the type of disability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Verifying satisfaction and fatigue due to compassion and its associated factors in nurses of the Basic Health Unit. Method: A descriptive and cross-sectional research developed with 101 nurses from 40 Basic Health Units in a municipality of Parana. Data were collected between November 2019 and February 2020 through a questionnaire of sociodemographic characterization, occupational and life habits and the Professional Quality of Life Scale that assesses Satisfaction and Fatigue by Compassion. The associated factors were obtained by logistic regression models. Results: Having a good interpersonal relationship decreased the chances of low satisfaction by compassion (p=0.025) and burnout (p=0.049). Being recognized at work had a significantly lower probability of low compassion satisfaction (p=0.040). Conclusion: Good interpersonal relationships were associated with compassion satisfaction and burnout. Feeling recognized for the work done was also associated with satisfaction for compassion. Most nurses, even with high levels of satisfaction due to compassion, feel tired, which leads to reinforce the need for greater attention to the work developed by nurses in the Basic Health Unit by managers. ABSTRACT Objective: Identify, analyze and understand the social representations of nursing professionals about burnout syndrome. Method: Qualitative study with nursing professionals who worked in the direct assistance to oncologic patients, conducted through semi-structured interview, using the technique of content analysis, anchoring the interpretations in the theory of social representations. Results: Seven professionals participated; after analysis, two categories emerged: “The stress of professionals, the naturalization of suffering and self-care strategies”; and “Ressignifications, learning in the oncologic sector and network gaps”. The representations about stress and the relationship of the professionals with the daily practice were predominant. Final Considerations: The nursing professionals represented the burnout syndrome socially as stress and made important reflections on the subject in the context of daily work. Concepts that determine the behavior of professionals were perceived as mechanisms of confrontation. In the vision of this social group, spirituality was revealed as a therapeutic strategy.

The objective of the present study was to analyse the association between the level of physical activity and mental health indicators in this population. A total of 254 military police officers, male and female, aged between 21 and 55, participated in military battleships and police companies in the metropolitan region of Aracaju, Sergipe. They responded to an assessment form, available online, on Google Forms, containing questions about socio-demographic, anthropometric and occupational characteristics, quality of sleep (Pittsburgh scale), stress (EPS-10), anxiety and depression (HAD scale), Exhaustion syndrome (MBI - GS), suicidal ideation (YRBSS - adapted), and Physical Activity level (IPAQ-short). Officers classified as "insufficiently active" had a higher risk for "burnout syndrome" (OR = 2.49; CI: 95% 1.42-4.43) and a greater feeling of "deep sadness" (OR = 1.85; CI: 95% 1.03-3.33) compared with physically active colleagues. In addition, longer service time was a protective factor against anxiety (OR = 0.30; CI: 95% 0.13-0.68), burnout syndrome (OR = 0.28; CI: 95% 0.12 -0.67) and deep sadness (OR = 0.25; CI: 95% 0.11-0.57). Older officers are more likely to be affected by "deep sadness" (OR = 2.80; CI: 95% 1.37-5.71). Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a disease that has become a regular part of care by health services. In the beginning, health services faced immense pressure due to new disease exposure, irregular schedules, and high work stress for healthcare workers. Unfortunately, their mental health was not adequately safeguarded, and there are few healthcare units that screen staff for depression and anxiety., Objective: The objective of this study is to describe the prevalence and factors associated with anxiety and depression diagnoses among healthcare workers during the coronavirus pandemic., Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in which depression (Beck questionnaire) and anxiety (Hamilton questionnaire) were investigated in health staff, after providing informed consent. This study was carried out during November and December 2022. All workers in all areas of a first-level unit were invited to participate in this research, so no sample calculation or sampling technique was required. Statistical analysis was performed using X 2 and Student's t-test., Results: Among the 232 workers surveyed, the prevalence of mild anxiety, severe anxiety, and certain levels of depression was 42.1%, 33.5%, and 18.9%, respectively. The study revealed that smoking is associated with a higher risk of anxiety diagnosis (OR=4; CI 95% =1.3-12.7). A higher score on the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (OR=1.07; CI 95% =1.04-1.11) as well as not being permanent staff (OR=3.34; CI 95% =1.2-9.3) was found associated with depression diagnosis., Conclusion: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic increased the stress and pressure on healthcare workers. Introduction: During the health emergency, there is concern about the mental health repercussions that Peruvian health workers, who represent the front line of care for COVID-19, may be experiencing., Objective: To determine whether concern about COVID-19 and workloads predict psychological distress in healthcare workers., Methods: Predictive study in which 367 workers (nurses, doctors, nursing assistants, obstetricians, dentists, psychologists, nutritionists, among others) from 12 health networks in the Puno region participated, selected through intentional non-probabilistic sampling. The data were collected via the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale, the COVID-19 Scale of Concern and the Workload Scale., Results: It was found that there are no significant differences between men and women in psychological discomfort and concern about COVID-19 infection and workload. Furthermore, highly significant correlations were found between the study variables (P < .01). El objetivo del estudio fue analizar los niveles de Desgaste psíquico y Desencanto en estudiantes de Psicología, la Sobrecarga y su relación con los Problemas de salud. Participaron 154 estudiantes universitarios de Psicología de 3º (48%) y 4º (52%) grado. Desgaste psíquico y Desencanto se evaluaron mediante el Cuestionario para la Evaluación del Síndrome de Quemarse por el Trabajo, Problemas de salud mediante una escala de once ítems y Sobrecarga mediante un ítem. Os estudantes do quarto ano sentiam de maneira significativa maiores níveis de sobrecarga, desgaste psíquico e desencanto que os de terceiro ano.The aim of the study was to examine the levels of Psychological Exhaustion and Disillusionment in students of Psychology, the work overload and its relationship with Disorders of Health. The research participants were 154 university students of Psychology from junior (48%) and senior. (52%). Psychological Exhaustion and Disillusionment were analysed with the Spanish Burnout Inventory (SBI), Disorders of Health with an eleven-item scale and Work overload with one item. The students from senior perceived higher Work overload, Psychological Exhaustion and Disillusionment than the students from junior.

Based on theory regarding the dynamics of organizational double binds, hypotheses were developed about interactive effects of role conflict, role ambiguity, and coping on psychological exhaustion. Hypotheses were tested in a sample of 948 civil servants employed by a government administration in Germany. The sample included 250 (26.4%) women (M age=43.6 year, SD=8.3) and average organizational tenure was 17.1 year (SD=10.0). Moderated multiple regression supported the two hypothesized three-way interactions. Under conditions of high role conflict and high role ambiguity, exhaustion was lower in workers reporting high control coping than in workers reporting low control coping. Under conditions of high role conflict and high role ambiguity, worker exhaustion was more pronounced when support coping was high than when it was low. Problem-focused control coping seems crucial to maintain mental health in dealing with contradictory and unclear work role expectations. Emotion-focused support coping appears symptomatic of prolonged involvement in psychologically dysfunctional work situations that cannot otherwise be addressed. Background: Burnout syndrome is a chronic, adaptive disorder, being considered the most important cause of work injury of psychosocial cause. The objective was to know the risk of burnout in Córdoba city’s physician and its relationship with sociodemographic factors and clinical and surgical specialties., Methods: An observational cross-sectional study was performed in 10 care centers in Córdoba City. Physicians were interviewed, we ask about sociodemographic variables and the Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire was done to objectify the risk of Burnout. The age was stratified by decades from 20 to 60 years. p < a 0,05 was considered significant., Results: 483 physicians were interviewed, 62,1% were women, 70% were between 20 and 40 years of age; 54.2% single, 42.9% had a time of exercised in the profession below 5 years. 66 of the total (16,5%) had a high risk of burnout, it was associated with the fact to work in a public establishment (p < 0.00001), to be single (p < 0.009), to work more than 60 h (p<0.001), sleeping less than 42 h per week (p < 0.005), less than five years of profession (p < 0.0002); to be from 20 to 29 years old ( p <0.0005) , the protective factor was to have children (p <0.006)., There were no differences between clinical and surgical specialties. Young professionals, with lower family restraint and greater labor demand, are those that present a greater risk of burnout. Introduction: During the health emergency, there is concern about the mental health repercussions that Peruvian health workers, who represent the front line of care for COVID-19, may be experiencing., Objective: To determine whether concern about COVID-19 and workloads predict psychological distress in healthcare workers., Methods: Predictive study in which 367 workers (nurses, doctors, nursing assistants, obstetricians, dentists, psychologists, nutritionists, among others) from 12 health networks in the Puno region participated, selected through intentional non-probabilistic sampling. The data were collected via the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale, the COVID-19 Scale of Concern and the Workload Scale., Results: It was found that there are no significant differences between men and women in psychological discomfort and concern about COVID-19 infection and workload. Furthermore, highly significant correlations were found between the study variables (p <0.01). Multiple regression analysis showed an adequate adjustment for the model (F = 94.834; p <0.001), where concern about COVID-19 (β = -0.436; p <0.01) and workload (β = 0.239; p <0.01) are variables that significantly predict psychological discomfort (adjusted R2 = 0.33)., Conclusions: Concern about COVID-19 and work overload predict psychological distress in health personnel in the Puno region., (© 2021 Published by Elsevier España, S.L.U. on behalf of Asociación Colombiana de Psiquiatría.)
