O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a associação da idade e da escolaridade com o desempenho de idosos cognitivamente preservados no Teste d2 de Atenção Concentrada, além de comparar os resultados de diferentes grupos etários e de níveis de escolaridade nesse instrumento. Participaram 211 adultos com idade igual ou superior a 60 anos, não institucionalizados, que responderam a uma ficha de dados sociodemográficos, ao Mini Exame do Estado Mental, à Escala de Depressão Geriátrica (versão reduzida), e ao Teste d2. A análise dos dados foi conduzida por meio de estatística descritiva, correlações parciais, regressão linear múltipla e ANOVA de uma via (one-way ANOVA). Os resultados das correlações parciais e da regressão linear múltipla revelaram que a idade e os anos de escolaridade demonstraram associações significativas com todos os escores do Teste d2, sendo a idade a variável preditora que demonstrou maior influência no desempenho dos idosos. A comparação de desempenho no teste d2 entre os seis grupos conforme distribuição por faixa etária (60-69 anos e 70 anos ou mais) e por níveis de escolaridade (fundamental, médio e superior) demonstrou que os idosos mais jovens e com maior nível de escolaridade apresentam melhores pontuações no Teste d2, sugerindo a necessidade de estudos de dados normativos para essa população

O presente artigo explorou como a remuneração, a percepção de saúde e a qualidade com o relacionamento atual se relacionam e preveem as expectativas e percepções sobre como serão os aspectos relacionados a finanças, saúde e relacionamento interpessoal na aposentadoria. Foram participantes 406 indivíduos adultos brasileiros, homens e mulheres, divididos em dois grupos: estágio de estabelecimento (entre 30 a 39 anos; N=177) e pré-aposentadoria (entre 44 e 59 anos; N=229). Estes responderam um questionário contendo: escala para avaliação da percepção futura da aposentadoria, escala de satisfação geral com o relacionamento, questionário de saúde geral reduzido e questionário sociodemográfico. Os resultados apontaram correlações positivas entre diferentes dimensões das percepções futuras da aposentadoria com saúde geral, qualidade do relacionamento e renda atuais. A saúde geral foi o aspecto mais preditivo das percepções futuras em relação à aposentadoria. Qualidade do relacionamento e renda foram variáveis preditoras apenas para participantes em estágio de pré-aposentadoria

The protean career orientation is descriptive of workers who show self-directedness and values-driven behaviors toward professional advancement. Such characteristics have been highly demanded from professionals in the past decades, evidencing their identification and development relevance. Considering that identifying construct structure and invariance is critical for effective measurement and both theory-building and practice, this study aimed to adapt and obtain internal and external validity evidence of the Protean Career Measure to the Brazilian context. Participants were 558 professionals (67% women). Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses resulted in a unidimensional model. They provided evidence of configural, metric, and scalar invariance between men and women. Also, they showed convergence between the protean career orientation and career models based on other characteristics (kaleidoscope, adaptability, and work engagement). Finally, results showed that the protean orientation tends to be higher, according to the participants' life/career stages' advancement. We discuss the application for research and interventions.

Mudanças recentes no mundo do trabalho apontam a existência simultânea de padrões de carreira e gênero tradicionais e modernos. Como consequência há uma discrepância entre as rápidas transformações e as menos ágeis mudanças nas atitudes sobre esses temas. Porém nem sempre é possível acessar tais atitudes através de medidas explícitas. O presente estudo teve por objetivo criar e validar uma medida de associação implícita de carreira e gênero, além de comparar atitudes implícitas e explícitas em relação a esses temas. Cinquenta universitários (29 mulheres) com média de 22 anos responderam o teste de associação implícita (TAI) carreira-gênero e duas questões abertas sobre o papel de homens e mulheres no mercado de trabalho. Os resultados indicaram que o TAI é capaz de identificar vieses associando mulheres e carreiras modernas e homens e carreiras tradicionais, além de caracterizar diferenças de viés entre homens e mulheres, com e sem experiência prévia de trabalho

Studies indicate that the costs resulting from voluntary turnover range from 93 to 200% of the annual salary for a single position, besides intangible losses for teams and individuals. The present study tested an explanatory model of turnover intention and a predictive model of voluntary turnover behavior among Brazilian employees. Participants were 379 employees (52% male) between 23 and 55 years old (M = 34.3). The results of the linear and logistic regression analyses indicated that the motives for turnover intention and behavior differ and that variables controlled by organizations, more than contextual or individual ones, lead to voluntary employee turnover.

Early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) is defined as a diagnosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) in individuals younger than 50 years of age. While overall CRC rates in the United States (US) decreased between 2001 and 2018, EOCRC rates have increased. This research project aims to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of Time-Restricted Eating (TRE), Mindfulness, or TRE combined with Mindfulness among young to middle-aged adults at risk of EOCRC. Forty-eight participants will be randomly assigned to one of four groups: TRE, Mindfulness, TRE and Mindfulness, or Control. Data on feasibility, adherence, and acceptability will be collected. Measures assessed at baseline and post-intervention will include body weight, body composition, dietary intake, physical activity, sleep behavior, circulating biomarkers, hair cortisol, and the gut microbiome. The effects of the intervention on the following will be examined: (1) acceptability and feasibility; (2) body weight, body composition, and adherence to TRE; (3) circulating metabolic, inflammation, and oxidative stress biomarkers; (4) intestinal inflammation; and (5) the gut microbiome. TRE, combined with Mindfulness, holds promise for stress reduction and weight management among individuals at risk of EOCRC. This invited commentary critically examines the article "The resurrection of vocational interests in human resources research and practice: Evidence, challenges, and a working model" by Wille and De Fruyt. It offers additional perspectives on expanding the discussion on interests within human resources (HR), supporting leaders in conducting career conversations, and integrating career education into HR practices. The commentary emphasizes the importance of considering organizational interests, training leaders for effective dialog, and providing career development opportunities. By addressing these areas, HR practices can better align individual aspirations with organizational goals and enhance employee engagement and long‐term employability. Introduction: Individuals with bipolar disorder (BD) have higher rates of unhealthy lifestyles and risk for medical comorbidities Research currently suggests that dietary factors may play a role in the development of depression and anxiety. Therefore, nutritional approaches are potential strategies for the treatment of BD. The aim of this review is to summarize the available evidence on nutrition and BD. Materials and Methods: The paper was developed based on PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The search was conducted in Sep-2021 using PubMed and Cochrane Library, augmented by manually checked references lists. The search found 986 studies, of which 47 were included, combined with 13 from reference lists, totaling 60 studies. Results: There were 33 observational trials, of which 15 focused on fatty acids, 9 on micronutrients, 5 on specific foods, 4 on macro and micronutrients. The 27 interventional studies mainly focused on fatty acids, micronutrients and N-acetylcysteine (NAC). Discussion: Dietary intake or supplementation of unsaturated fatty acids, mainly Omega-3 seems to be associated with improved BD symptoms, along with seafood, folic acid and zinc. Studies found variable, mainly non-significant impacts of creatine, carnitine, vitamin D, inositol or NAC supplementation on BD. There are promising results associated with Coenzyme Q10 (Coq10) and probiotics. Taken together, these preliminary findings suggest that dietetic approaches might be included as part of BD treatment. Also considering the high risk of metabolic disorders in individuals with BD, they should be encouraged to choose healthy dietary lifestyles, including daily intake of fruits, vegetables, seafood and whole grains. The study aimed to compare the impact of Role Blurring on mental health and Work-Life Integration in the Brazilian and Spanish populations during COVID-19. Role Blurring, which is related to resources and demands in the work context, affects coping with stressors arising from role overlapping and impacts individuals' perception of work overload and mental health. The sample consisted of 877 adults from Spain (n = 498) and Brazil (n = 372), and various statistical analyses were conducted to compare the groups. Results showed that Role Blurring is linked to symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress, as well as suicidal ideation. Therefore, it is essential to promote working conditions that limit expectations on availability and favor disconnection from work during leisure time. Public policies that intervene, promote, and prevent psychosocial risk factors in emergent contexts are crucial to prevent suicidal ideation and attempts. Considering the high expected influence of Blurring as a focus of interventions can be reflected in the medium term in the indicators of well-being and satisfaction of companies, institutions and organizations. This can result in the reduction of health costs aimed at cushioning post-COVID-19 impacts on mental health. The study is relevant to understand the impact of the pandemic and technology on mental health and suggests the need for interventions to promote work-life balance and prevent psychosocial risks. Obesity is considered an independent risk factor for colorectal cancer (CRC). Altered nutrient metabolism, particularly changes to digestion and intestinal absorption, may play an important role in the development of CRC. Iron can promote the formation of tissue-damaging and immune-modulating reactive oxygen species. We conducted a crossover, controlled feeding study to examine the effect of three, 3-week diets varying in iron and saturated fat content on the colonic milieu and systemic markers among older females with obesity. Anthropometrics, fasting venous blood and stool were collected before and after each diet. There was a minimum 3-week washout period between diets. Eighteen participants consumed the three diets (72% Black; mean age 60.4 years; mean body mass index 35.7 kg/m2). Results showed no effect of the diets on intestinal inflammation (fecal calprotectin) or circulating iron, inflammation, and metabolic markers. Pairwise comparisons revealed less community diversity between samples (beta diversity, calculated from 16S rRNA amplicon sequences) among participants when consuming a diet low in iron and high in saturated fat vs. when consuming a diet high in iron and saturated fat. More studies are needed to investigate if dietary iron represents a salient target for CRC prevention among individuals with obesity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Colorectal cancer (CRC) burden across the world is expected to increase by ~2.2 million new cases and ~1.1 million deaths by 2030. Regular physical exercise is recommended to prevent CRC, but the myriad of protocols preclude further discussion on how to manage its variables for this population. Home-based exercise guided by remote monitoring provides an alternative to surpass the barriers of supervised exercise. However, no meta-analysis was conducted to verify the effectiveness of this intervention for improving physical activity (PA). We performed a systematic review of remote and unsupervised strategies imposed on CRC patients for improving PA and compared, via a meta-analysis, their effectiveness against CRC patients submitted to usual care or no intervention. The databases PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched on 20 September 2022. Eleven studies attained the criteria for eligibility in the qualitative approach, and seven were included in the meta-analysis. No significant effect (p = 0.06) of remote and unsupervised exercise intervention was observed. However, a sensitivity analysis including three studies that only considered CRC patients was performed, demonstrating a significant effect in favor of exercise (p = 0.008). Based on our sensitivity analysis, remote and unsupervised exercise strategies were effective to improve the PA of CRC patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The period of digital transformation that we are experiencing, called Industry 4.0, has marked a series of changes in the way we relate as a society, requiring constant adaptation and new knowledge on the part of companies and professionals. This study sought to contribute to the understanding of the relationship between the organizational learning culture in Information Technology companies based in Brazil, the work engagement, and the turnover intention of its employees. Among the results of the correlation and network analyses, it is shown that organizational actions aimed at connecting the organization to its environment dimension have a direct effect on work engagement. The high level of work engagement, on the other hand, has not been shown to reduce the turnover intention. The results of the study allow the identification of cultural aspects related to learning, which dimensions of culture are directly related to work engagement, and what are their impact on the turnover intention. They also evidence elements of the organizational culture to be prioritized in interventions, in addition to offering indications on how to develop professionals within the organizational routine. The aim of the study was to develop a role blurring (RB) tool to measure work-life integration in different contexts. A final number of 19 items was examined. Psychometric properties in both Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese versions were analysed, comparing the invariance of the measure between the two countries, and setting the difficulty parameter of the items. Thus, a total of two incidental samples volunteered to participate in the study: a Spanish sample of n = 498 and a Brazilian sample of n = 379 were recruited. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), as well as an invariance analysis, were performed between the two countries, in order to test the homogeneity structure of the measure. In addition, the item response theory (IRT) was used to establish the probability of response and difficulty of the items through a Rasch analysis. The confirmatory factor analysis pointed to a unifactorial structure. There were no statistically significant alterations in the model fit indices, and the Rasch rating scale model (RSM) showed adequate infit and outfit values, as well as successive response categories located in the expected order for all items. This study aims to quantify the areal variation of glacial lakes in the coastal ice-free areas of King George Island (KGI) and Nelson Island (NI) from 1986 to 2020. Glacial lake and glacial area fluctuations are estimated using spaceborne remote sensing data and annual mean near-surface air temperature data from station observations and ERA-Interim reanalysis were analyzed. The area of glacial lakes expanded 732%, from 0.18 km2 in the 1980s to 1.39 km2 in 2020. For the 1988–2000/2003 and 2000/2003–2020 periods, the increase in NI lake area is estimated to be 190% and 86%, respectively. Meanwhile, on KGI, the increase is estimated to be 316% for the 1988–2000/2003 period and 103% for the 2000/2003–2020 period. The majority of lakes and higher lake expansions occurred at the glacier fronts and can be attributed to the melting of glacier fronts and the subsequent glacial retreat in recent decades. Work-family conflict is a phenomenon of relevance to psychology since it concerns the impossibility of reconciling the demands arising from these two domains. Furthermore, there is evidence of impacts in domains for individuals, families, and organizations. The present study provides additional evidence of the validity of the Work-Family Conflict Scale for the Brazilian context, based on analyses of invariance by sex and region of the country, as well as specific norms by sex and region. Participants were 1787 people from three regions of the Brazilian territory (south, southeast, and northeast). Among the participants, 934 identified as female (52.3%). The results showed that the theoretical model that supports the measure did not have a favorable psychometric adjustment in all contexts evaluated. A shorter version with six items of the instrument, along with configural, scalar, and metric invariance tests, both by sex and by the participant's region of origin, is presented. Background: Mothers who identify as Black or African American are more likely to report depressed moods in late pregnancy and early postpartum and have the lowest rates of human milk feeding compared with all other racial groups in the United States. Internet interventions offer the potential to extend preventative and supportive services as they address key barriers, particularly for those navigating the complex and vulnerable early postpartum period. However, there is limited evidence on the feasibility of such interventions for preventing perinatal mental health disorders and improving human milk feeding outcomes in Black mothers. Objective: This pilot study aimed to assess the feasibility and preliminary findings of a web-based cognitive behavioral therapy–based internet intervention, with and without human milk feeding education and support, to prevent perinatal depression and promote human milk feeding in Black mothers. Methods: Participants were Black-identifying individuals between 20 and 28 weeks of pregnancy with human milk feeding intention and mild to moderate depressive symptoms (Patient Health Questionnaire scores 5-14). Participants were randomized to either Sunnyside, a 6-week cognitive behavioral therapy–based web-based intervention, or Sunnyside Plus, which included additional education and support to promote human milk feeding. Assessments occurred at baseline, third trimester (end of antenatal treatment), 6 weeks postpartum (end of postpartum treatment), and 12 weeks postpartum. The primary focus of this randomized pilot trial was the feasibility and preliminary outcomes of mental health and human milk feeding. Results: A total of 22 tertiary-educated participants were randomized. The mean number of log-ins was 7.3 (SD 5.3) for Sunnyside and 13.8 (SD 10.5) for Sunnyside Plus. Scores of depression and anxiety measures remained below the clinical threshold for referral to treatment in both groups. All the participants initiated human milk feeding (18/18, 100%). Most participants reported at least some human milk feeding at both 6 and 12 weeks postpartum (6/7, 86%; 11/11, 100%, or 10/10, 100%, for Sunnyside and Sunnyside Plus, respectively). Conclusions: The results suggest that tertiary-educated Black mothers at risk for perinatal depression and who intended to human milk feed were receptive to and satisfied with a web-based cognitive behavioral therapy–based internet intervention, with and without human milk feeding education and support. Preliminary findings indicate that both Sunnyside and Sunnyside Plus interventions have the potential to affect symptoms of depression, anxiety, and human milk feeding outcomes. The aim of the study was to identify the relationships between career commitment and the perception of employability, career adaptability, self-reflection and insight of professionals from the southern region of Brazil. Participants were 535 individuals who answered an online questionnaire with sociodemographic questions and scales from career commitment, employability perception, career adaptability, self-reflection and insight, to evaluate the variables of interest in the study. The data were submitted to descriptive and network analysis. The results show a moderate and positive relationship between the variables studied and highlight the centrality and strength of the variables identity, planning and confidence among the analyzed variables. It is concluded that it is essential to encourage professionals to reflect on professional choices and their responsibility with their careers, based on the promotion of self-knowledge. Also, the role of organizations in the development of People Management practices that promote autonomy and relationships of trust stands out. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Aims: This study examined if the weight loss and metabolic benefits of alternate day fasting (ADF) varies according to sex and menopausal status in adults with obesity.Methods and Results: This secondary analysis pooled the data of men and women (n = 75) who participated in three 12-week ADF studies (500 kcal fast day; alternated with an ad libitum intake feast day). Body weight decreased in premenopausal women (-4.6 ± 3.2%), postmenopausal women (-6.5 ± 3.2%) and men (-6.2 ± 4.4%) (main effect of time, P < 0.001), with no difference between groups (no group × time interaction). Energy intake on fast days was higher than prescribed in all groups (∼400-500 excess kcal consumed), with no differences between groups. Fat mass, lean mass, fasting insulin, and insulin resistance, and blood pressure decreased similarly in all groups (main effect of time, P < 0.05 for all comparisons). LDL cholesterol decreased more in postmenopausal versus premenopausal women (group × time interaction, P = 0.01). Fasting glucose, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides remained unchanged in all groups.Conclusion: These findings suggest that the weight loss and metabolic benefits of ADF do not generally vary according to sex or menopausal status in adults with obesity.Trial Registration: Clinicaltrials.gov, NCT00960505; NCT03528317. The present study aimed to describe the implementation of the 'Arbitrium' task, an application under development, conceived to serve as a tool for the measurement of the routine of participants in the project Work-Family Conflict and Time Management Strategies adopted by Professionals. This tool was developed by a multidisciplinary team with the intention of bringing elements of gamification to a scientific study, and to verify data that would be lost using conventional data collection methods in scientific studies in the field, such as questionnaires or interviews. The use of the task aims to increase the participant's engagement in the study. It will also allow access to data, such as the time that participants takes to make their choices in relation to the domains of family and work, the tendency to prioritize one of the domains, the performance in managing the two roles and the choices themselves. Objective: To evaluate the concordance between the modified NUTRIC and NUTRIC with C-reactive protein instruments in identifying nutritional risk patients and predicting mortality in critically ill patients. The risk of death in patient groups was also investigated according to nutritional risk and malnutrition detected by subjective global assessment. Methods: A cohort study of patients admitted to an intensive care unit. Nutritional risk was assessed by modified NUTRIC and a version of NUTRIC with C-reactive protein. Subjective global assessment was applied to diagnose malnutrition. Kappa statistics were calculated, and an ROC curve was constructed considering modified NUTRIC as a reference. The predictive validity was assessed considering mortality in 28 days (whether in the intensive care unit or after discharge) as the outcome. Results: A total of 130 patients were studied (63.05 ± 16.46 years, 53.8% males). According to NUTRIC with C-reactive protein, 34.4% were classified as having a high score, while 28.5% of patients had this classification with modified NUTRIC. According to SGA 48.1% of patients were malnourished. There was excellent agreement between modified NUTRIC and NUTRIC with C-reactive protein (Kappa = 0.88, p < 0.001). The area under the ROC curve was equal to 0.942 (0.881 - 1.000) for NUTRIC with C-reactive protein. The risk of death within 28 days was increased in patients with high modified NUTRIC (HR = 1.827; 95%CI 1.029 - 3.244; p = 0.040) and NUTRIC with C-reactive protein (HR = 2.685; 95%CI 1.423 - 5.064; p = 0.002) scores. A high risk of death was observed in patients with high nutritional risk and malnutrition, independent of the version of the NUTRIC score applied. Conclusion: An excellent agreement between modified NUTRIC and NUTRIC with C-reactive protein was observed. In addition, combining NUTRIC and subjective global assessment may increase the accuracy of predicting mortality in critically ill patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
