Context. Recent studies have shown that 6.7 GHz methanol maser flares can be a powerful tool for verifying the mechanisms of maser production and even the specific signatures of accretion rate changes in the early stages of high-mass star formation. Aims. We characterize the spatial structure and evolution of methanol and water masers during a flare of methanol maser emission at 6.7 GHz in the high-mass young stellar object (HMYSO) G24.33+0.14. Methods. Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) was used to image the 6.7 and 12.2 GHz methanol and 22.2 GHz water vapor masers at three epochs guided by monitoring the methanol line with the Torun 32m telescope. The 6.7 GHz maser maps were also obtained with the European VLBI Network (EVN) and Long Baseline Array (LBA) during the flare. The Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) data were used to find correlations between the 6.7 GHz maser and infrared (IR) fluxes. Results. The 6.7 GHz methanol maser cloudlets are distributed over ~3500 au, and the morphology of most of them is stable although their brightness varies following the course of the total flux density on a timescale of two months. The 12.2 GHz methanol maser cloudlets cover an area an order of magnitude smaller than that of 6.7 GHz emission, and both transitions emerge from the same masing gas. The 22.2 GHz maser cloudlets lie in the central region and show a systematic increase in brightness and moderate changes in size and orientation, together with the velocity drift of the strongest cloudlet during two months of the Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observing period. Time lag estimates imply the propagation of changes in the physical conditions of the masing region with a subluminal speed (~0.3c). A tight correlation of IR (4.6 μm) and 6.7 GHz flux densities is found, supporting the radiative pumping model. Proper motion analysis does not reveal any signs of expansion or inflow of the methanol cloudlets within ~6 mas over ~10 yr. Comparison with the 230 GHz Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) data indicates that the methanol masers are distributed in the inner part of the rotating disk, whereas the 22.2 GHz emission traces the compact inner component of the bipolar outflow or a jet structure. The maser morphology in the target is remarkably stable over the course of the flare and is similar to the quiescent state, possibly due to less energetic accretion events that can repeat on a timescale of ~8 yr. Small ruminant lentiviruses (SRLV) cause multisystemic, degenerative and chronic disease in sheep and goats. There are five genotypes (A, B, C, D and E), of which A and B are the most widespread. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the serotyping efficiency of the Eradikit SRLV Genotyping ELISA and the molecular typing efficiency of a newly developed nested real-time PCR targeting the long terminal repeat–gag (LTR-gag) region using samples from animals infected with subtypes of SRLV known to circulate in Poland.

Maedi-visna virus and caprine arthritis encephalitis virus are two closely related lentiviruses which cause multisystemic, progressive and persistent infection in goats and sheep. Because these viruses frequently cross the species barrier, they are considered to be one genetic group called small-ruminant lentiviruses (SRLV). They have in vivo tropism mainly for monocytes and macrophages and organ tropism with unknown mechanisms. Typical clinical signs are pneumonia in sheep, arthritis in goats, and mastitis in both species. Infection with SRLV cannot currently be treated or prevented, and control programmes are the only approaches to avoiding its spread. These programmes rely mainly on annual serological testing and elimination of positive animals. However, the high genetic and antigenic variability of SRLV complicate their early and definitive diagnosis. The objective of this review is to summarise the current knowledge of SRLV genetic variation and its implications for tropism, the development of diagnostic tests and vaccines and the effectiveness of control and eradication programmes.

The objective of this study was to present a comparative analysis of the antimicrobial activity of methanolic leaf extracts from seven Juniperus L. species, together with a tentative analysis of their total flavonoid and o-dihydroxyphenolic acids content. The chemical analyses were performed by colorimetric methods and the antimicrobial activity was assessed via broth microdilution. The studied extracts showed total content of o-dihydroxyphenols in the range of 26 to 34 µg of caffeic acid equivalent/mg DE and total flavonoid content of 13 to 24 µg of quercetin equivalent/mg DE. The sensitivity of Gram-positive bacteria to the studied extracts differed significantly with the following order of activity: J. sabina var. balkanensis > J. communis ‘Laxa’ > J. formosana > J. pinchotii > J. ashei > J. excelsa ≈ J. sibirica. Weak activity was observed for all extracts against Gram-negative bacteria and Candida strains. The analysis of the MBC/MIC ratio showed that the extracts exhibited bactericidal effect against Gram-negative bacteria (MBC/MIC≤4), while bactericidal or bacteriostatic action (MBC/MIC>4) was determined towards Gram-positive bacteria. Moreover, these extracts showed fungicidal (MFC/MIC≤4) or fungistatic effect (MFC/MIC>4). Best antibacterial activity was registered for the J. sabina var. balkanensis leaf extract. The multivariate data analyses were carried out by SIMCA 16 (v16.0.2) software. The hierarchical cluster analysis and principal component analysis, based on phytochemical and antimicrobial data, classified the studied juniper species into four groups: 1. J. ashei; 2. J. excelsa, J. sibirica; 3. J. sabina var. balkanensis, J. communis Laxa, J. formosana; 4. J. pinchotii.

Since 2017, and the formation of the maser monitoring organisation (M2O), we have observed several intriguing events. These events have included possible accretion bursts, strong jets, periodicity after a flare, a heat-wave of radiation travelling outward at a fraction of the speed of light, to name a few. In September 2019 the M2O was notified of another source showing flaring behavior, and here we present the possibility of the first discovery of long-term maser periodicity from the high-mass star formation region (HMSFR) G024.33+0.14, with a period of about 3000 days. We have performed a molecular line search towards the flaring 6.7-GHz masers G 24.33+0.13, and G 359.6−0.24 using the Australia Telescope Compact Array. We present spectra of the 6.7-GHz class II methanol and 22.2-GHz water masers towards these sources and provide a comparison with other recent flaring events these sources have experienced. We also detect the fourth example of a 23.4-GHz class I methanol maser and the 11th example of a 4.8-GHz formaldehyde maser towards G 24.33+0.13. Alongside these results, we also observe the previously detected ammonia (3,3) emission and report upper limits on the presence of various other cm-wavelength methanol, ammonia, and OH transitions. Previous gag and env sequence studies placed Polish small ruminant lentiviruses (SRLVs) isolated from sheep and goats in subtypes B1, B2, A1, A5, A12, A13, A16–A18, A23, A24 and A27. This study extended the genetic/phylogenetic analysis of previously identified Polish SRLV strains by contributing long terminal repeat (LTR) sequences.

This paper reports observations of a 22 GHz water maser 'superburst' in the G25.65+1.05 massive star-forming region, conducted in response to an alert from the Maser Monitoring Organisation (M2O). Very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations using the European VLBI Network (EVN) recorded a maser flux density of 1.2 × 104 Jy. The superburst was investipgated in the spectral, structural, and temporal domains and its cause was determined to be an increase in maser path length generated by the superposition of multiple maser emitting regions aligning in the line of sight to the observer. Porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus (PEDV) is an enteric pathogen causing porcine epidemic diarrhoea and acute gastroenteritis in pigs of all ages. Previous analysis of the viral genome of PEDV in Poland was only based on the spike protein (S) gene sequences and no analysis of other genes has been performed. The aim of this study was to analyse the envelope (E), membrane (M) and nucleocapsid (N) protein and open reading frame 3 (ORF3) gene sequences.

Discovery of periodic maser emission was an unexpected result from monitoring observations of methanol transitions in high-mass young stellar objects. We report on the detection of five new periodic sources from a monitoring program with the Torun 32 m telescope. Variability with a period of 149 to 540 d and different patterns from sinusoidal-like to intermittent was displayed. Three-dimensional structure of G59.633−0.192 determined from the time delays of burst peaks of the spectral features and high angular resolution map implies that the emission traces a disc. For this source the 6.7 GHz light curve followed the infrared variability supporting a radiative scheme of pumping. An unusual time delay of ∼80 d occurred in G30.400−0.296 could not be explained by the light travel time and may suggest a strong differentiation of physical conditions and excitation in this deeply embedded source. Our observations suggest the intermittent variability may present a simple response of maser medium to the underlying variability induced by the accretion luminosity while other variability patterns may reflect more complex changes in the physical conditions. G111.256−0.770 is a high-mass young stellar object associated with a weak 6.7 GHz methanol maser showing strong variability. We present results of a multi-epoch monitoring program of the target, conducted with the Torun 32 m telescope for more than a decade. We found that the isotropic maser luminosity varied by a factor 16 on a time-scale of 5–6 yr and individual features showed small amplitude short-lived (∼0.2 yr) bursts superimposed on higher amplitude slow (>5 yr) variations. The maser integrated flux density appears to be correlated with the near-infrared flux observed with the (NEO)WISE, supporting radiative pumping of the maser line. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present new evidence for superradiance (SR) in the methanol 6.7 GHz spectral line for three different star-forming regions: S255IR-NIRS3, G24.329+0.144, and Cepheus A. Our analysis shows that some of the flux–density flares exhibiting fast rise times and asymmetric light curves reported in these sources can naturally be explained within the context of SR. When a threshold for the inverted population column density is exceeded in a maser-hosting region, the radiation mode switches from one regulated by stimulated emission (maser) to SR. Superradiance, as a more efficient energy release mechanism, manifests itself through strong bursts of radiation emanating from spatially compact regions. Elevated inverted population densities and the initiation of SR can be due to a change in radiative pumping. Here, we show that an increase in the pump rate and the inverted population density of only a factor of a few results in a significant increase in radiation. While the changes in the pump rate can take place over a few hundred days, the rise in radiation flux density when SR is initiated is drastic and happens over a much shorter time-scale. The results of long-term monitoring of the Galactic maser source IRAS 18316–0602 (G25.65+1.05) in the water-vapor line at frequency f = 22.235 GHz (616–523 transitioin) carried out on the 22-m Simeiz, 26-m HartRAO, and 26-m Torun radio telescopes are reported. The source has been episodically observed on the Simeiz telescope since 2000, with more regular observations beginning in 2017. A double flare was observed beginning in September 2017 and continuing to February 2018, which was the most powerful flare registered over the entire history of observations of this object. Most of the monitoring of the flare was carried out in a daily regime. Detailed analysis of the variations of the flux density, which reached a maximum value P ≈ 1.3 × 105 Jy, have led to important scientific conclusions about possible mechanisms for the emission in this water line. The exponential growth in the flux density in this double flare testifies that it was associated with a maser that was unsaturated right up to the maximum flux densities observed. An additional argument suggesting the maser was unsaturated is the relatively moderate degree of linear polarization (≈30%), nearly half the value displayed by the Galactic kilomasers in Orion KL. The accurate distance estimate for IRAS 18316–0602 (12.5 kpc) and the flux density at the flare maximum (≈1.3 × 105 Jy) makes this the most powerful Galactic kilomaser known. The double form of the flare with exponential rises in flux density rules out the possibility that the flare is the effect of directivity of a radiation beam relative to the observer. The physical nature of the flare is most likely related to internal parameters of the medium in which the maser clumps radiating in the water line are located. A rapid, exponential growth in the flux density of a kilomaser and associated exponential decays requires the presence of an explosive increase in the density of the medium and the photon flux, leading to an increase in the temperature by 10–40 K above the initial base level. A mechanism for the primary energy release in IRAS 18316–0602 is proposed, which is associated with a multiple massive star system located in a stage of evolution preceding its entry onto the main sequence. A flare in this object could initiate gravitational interaction between the central star and a massive companion at its periastron. The resulting powerful gravitational perturbation could lead to the ejection of the envelope of the central supermassive star, which gives rise to an explosive increase in the density and temperature of the associate gas–dust medium when it reaches the disk, where the maser clumps are located. Apocrine sweat gland carcinomas (ASGCs) are rare malignant skin tumours in dogs and humans. The literature published so far focuses mostly on the clinico-epidemiological aspect of these tumours, but little is known about their pathogenesis. In this study we aimed to determine whether the p53 gene is involved in the carcinogenesis of the apocrine sweat gland in dogs and whether ultraviolet radiation (UV) is related to it.

Since 2009, the Torun 32 m radio telescope has been used to monitor a sample of ∼140 sources of the 6.7 GHz methanol maser emission. In 2022, the sample was extended to about 250 targets. Approximately three-quarters show variability greater than 10% on timescales of a few weeks to several years. The most significant results are detecting a few flare events and discovering about a dozen periodic variables with periods ranging from a month to a few years. Context. High-mass young stellar objects (HMYSOs) can undergo accretion episodes that strongly affect the star evolution, the dynamics of the disk, and its chemical evolution. Recently reported extraordinary bursts in the methanol maser emission may be the observational signature of accretion events in deeply embedded HMYSOs. Aims. We analyze the light curve of 6.7 GHz methanol masers in S255IR-NIRS3 during the 2015–2016 burst. Methods. 8.5-yr monitoring data with an average sampling interval of 5 days were obtained with the Torun 32 m radio telescope. Archival data were added, extending the time series to ~27 yr. Results. The maser emission showed moderate (25–30%) variability on timescales of months to years over ~23 yr since its discovery. The main burst was preceded by a 1 yr increase of the total flux density by a factor of 2.5, then it grew by a factor of 10 over ~0.4 yr and declined by a factor of 8 during the consecutive 2.4 yr. The peak maser luminosity was a factor of 24.5 higher than the pre-burst quiescent value. The light curves of individual features showed considerable diversity but indicated a general trend of suppression of the maser emission at blueshifted (<4.7 km s−1) velocities when the redshifted emission rapidly grew and new emission features appeared at velocities >5.8 km s−1. This new emission provided a contribution of about 80% to the maser luminosity around the peak of the burst. The duration of the burst at the extreme redshifted velocities of 7.1–8.7 km s−1 was from 0.9 to 1.9 yr, and its lower limit for the other features was ~3.9 yr. Conclusions. The onset of the maser burst exactly coincides with that of the infrared burst estimated from the motion of the light echo. This strongly supports the radiative pumping scheme of the maser transition. The growth of the maser luminosity is the result of an increasing volume of gas where the maser inversion is achieved. Lichens are extremophilic organisms surviving in extremely low temperature and dehydration; however, the molecular mechanism of frost and dehydration resistance is not yet fully understood. Low temperature behavior of Cetraria aculeata thalli at the hydration level between ∆m/m0 = 0.039 and ∆m/m0 = 0.964, defined as a ratio of mass of water adsorbed to the thalli, ∆m, to dry mass of the thalli, m0, and interpreted as water content, %WC, in a fractional form (∆m/m0 = %WC/100) was investigated using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Proton free induction decays were decomposed into components: coming from solid matrix of thallus and exponentially decaying from loosely bound and from tightly bound water. At low hydration levels the loosely bound water fraction (cooperatively freezing water) is detected down to − 15.6 °C. With the decreasing temperature loosely bound water fraction is gradually transferred to the tightly bound water pool (non-freezing water) which could play significant role in freezing resistance mechanism. At higher hydration levels DSC scans show the presence of cooperative water freezing in thallus. The lowest hydration level at which the cooperative freezing of water bound in C. aculeata thallus is detected by DSC is equal to 0.453. DSC courses recorded after 120 min incubation of C. aculeata thallus in − 20 °C suggest the lowest hydration level in which ice formation could be observed is decreased to 0.167, as a result of water molecule diffusion to places where ice microcrystallites were formed. Supercooled water behavior in C. aculeata thalli reveals a composed behavior. Two processes take place: supercooled liquid water mobility gradually decrease with the decreased temperature and the diffusion of supercooled water molecules to ice microcrystallites and, thus the solid phase growth. We report results of 6.7 GHz methanol maser monitoring of 139 star-forming sites with the Torun 32-m radio telescope from 2009 June to 2013 February. The targets were observed at least once a month, with higher cadences of two to four measurements per week for circumpolar objects. Nearly 80 per cent of the sources display variability greater than 10 per cent on a timescale between a week and a few years, but about three quarters of the sample have only one to three spectral features that vary significantly. Irregular intensity fluctuation is the dominant type of variability and only nine objects show evidence for cyclic variations with periods of 120 to 416 d. Synchronized and anticorrelated variations of maser features are detected in four sources with a disc-like morphology. Rapid and high-amplitude bursts of individual features are seen on three to five occasions in five sources. Long (>50 d to 20 months) lasting bursts are observed mostly for individual or groups of features in 19 sources and only one source experienced a remarkable global flare. A few flaring features display a strong anticorrelation between intensity and line-width that is expected for unsaturated amplification. There is a weak anticorrelation between the maser feature luminosity and variability measure, i.e. maser features with low luminosity tend to be more variable than those with high luminosity. The analysis of the spectral energy distribution and continuum radio emission reveals that the variability of the maser features increases when the bolometric luminosity and Lyman flux of the exciting object decreases. Porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus (PEDV) of the Coronaviridae family causes significant economic losses in the pig industry worldwide. Wild boars contribute to the transmission of different viral, bacterial and parasitic infections to livestock animals and humans. However, their role in the maintenance and transmission of PEDV has not been established.

High-mass young stellar objects (HMYSO) displaying methanol maser flux variability probably trace a variety of phenomena such as accretion events, magnetospheric activity, stellar flares and stellar wind interactions in binary systems. A long-term monitoring of the 6.7 GHz methanol line in a large sample of HMYSOs has been undertaken to characterize the variability patterns and examine their origins. The majority of the masers show significant variability on time-scales between a week and a few years. High amplitude short flares of individual features occurred in several HMYSOs. The maser features with low luminosity tend to be more variable than those with high luminosity. The variability of the maser features increases when the bolometric luminosity the powering star decreases. Statistical analysis of basic properties of exciting objects and the variability measures supports an idea that burst activity of methanol masers is driven mainly by changes in the infrared pumping rate. The results of long-term monitoring of the Galactic 22.2 GHz water masers associated with G25.65+1.05 using several telescopes are presented. We report a powerful double flare with peak flux densities of ∼60 and 130 kJy in 2017 September and 2017 November, respectively. We propose a linear relationship between the inverse of the square of the line width and the natural logarithm of the flux density of the flaring water maser feature. Extracts from leaves and stems ofChenopodium hybridumwere characterised for the presence and quantity of flavonoids and phenolic acids by LC-ESI-MS/MS. Five flavonoids and eight phenolic acids were detected for the first time in aerial parts of this plant species, the most abundant compounds being rutin (2.80 μg/g DW), 3-kaempferol rutinoside (2.91 μg/g DW), 4-OH-benzoic (1.86 μg/g DW) and syringic acids (2.31 μg/g DW). Extracts were tested for anti-inflammatory/antiarthritic, antihyaluronidase and cytotoxic activities against human prostate cancer (Du145, PC3) and melanoma cell lines (A375, HTB140 and WM793) of different malignancy. None of the extracts protected bovine serum albumin from heat-induced denaturation. Antihyaluronidase effect at the tested concentration was higher than standard naringenin. Cytotoxic activity was generally low with an exception of the extract from the leaves, which was found most effective against prostate Du145 cell line with 98.28 ± 1.13% of dead cells at 100 μg/mL. Poa annua is the only flowering plant species that has established a breeding population in the maritime Antarctic, through repeated anthropogenic introduction. The first appearance of this species in the Antarctic was observed in 1953. Annual bluegrass inhabits mainly anthropogenic sites, but recently has entered tundra communities. The functioning of P. annua in the Antarctic could not have been possible without adaptations that enable the plants to persist in the specific climatic conditions typical for this zone. Poa annua is highly adaptable to environmental stress and unstable habitats: huge phenotypic and genotypic variability, small size, plastic life cycle (life-history types ranging from annual to perennial forms). The spreading of P. annua in the Antarctic Peninsula region is a classic example of the expansion process following anthropogenic introduction of an invasive species, and illustrates the dangers to Antarctic terrestrial ecosystems that are associated with increasing human traffic. Replacing the gluten network to produce high quality pasta is a great technological challenge. One of known solutions to the problem is the addition of xanthan gum. This paper focuses on the possibility of obtaining a new type of gluten-free maize-field bean pasta and explores the characteristics of phenolics content, antioxidant activity, cooking quality, textural and thermotropic behavior as well as the microstructure of pasta products with the various levels of added xanthan gum. The obtained results revealed that 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75% addition of xanthan gum to pasta did not have significant influence on its phenolics content and antioxidant activity, whereas 1.00% addition caused a decrease in the tested parameters. On the other hand, the opposite effect of gum addition on the cooking quality, texture characteristic and microstructure was observed. The addition of xanthan gum to the formulation improved pasta quality while reducing the leaching of its components into the cooking water. Pasta prepared with 1.00% xanthan gum showed the lowest cooking loss, the highest firmness, and the lowest adhesiveness. These results revealed a significant influence of xanthan gum content on pasta properties as confirmed by the thermal analysis and SEM microstructure observations.

Chokeberry fruit (Aronia melanocarpa (Michx.) Elliott) is known for its antioxidant properties and generally beneficial impact on human health. The aim of the research was to produce innovative corn porridge with a different content of chokeberry fruit percentage-wise and to test it to determine the content of polyphenolic compounds, including flavonoids and individual free phenolic acids, and determine the antioxidant properties of analysed extracts. One of the objectives was also to identify the optimum porridge production parameters, including, among other things, the rotational speed of the extruder screw during the extrusion process.

Hydration kinetics, sorption isotherm, and proton free induction decays are measured for Ramalina terebrata thalli rehydrated from gaseous phase. Very tightly, tightly, and loosely bound water fractions are distinguished. Sorption isotherm is sigmoidal in form with the mass of water saturating primary water binding sites equal to Δm/m0 = 0.046. Proton free induction decays show the presence of immobilized water fraction (T*2L1 ≈ 100 μs) and mobile water pool (T*2L2 ≈ 330 μs). The initial stages of Umbilicaria aprina Nyl. hydration (starting from the hydration level Δm/m0 = 0.048 ± 0.004) were observed using hydration kinetics, sorption isotherm and proton NMR. The thalli were hydrated from gaseous phase. The total saturation hydration level obtained at the relative humidity p/p0 = 100% was Δm/m0 = 0.848 ± 0.009. The hydration courses revealed i) a fraction of very tightly bound water (Δm/m0 = 0.054 ± 0.011, short hydration time constant, thyd), ii) a fraction of tightly bound water [Δm/m0 = 0.051 ± 0.038, thyd = (4.7 ± 2.6) h], and iii) a loosely bound water pool [ thyd = (31.0 ± 1.9) h] for higher values of target humidity. The sorption isotherm of U. aprina was fitted well using Dent model. The relative mass of water saturating primary binding sites was ΔM/m0 = 0.054, which is close to the water fractions. Proton FIDs detected (i + ii) the immobilized tightly bound water fraction, L1, and iii) the mobile, loosely bound water pool L2. The hydration dependence of the proton liquid signal suggests the presence of a significant contribution from a water soluble solid fraction in the thallus. There are few data reported on radionuclide contamination in Antarctica. The aim of this paper is to report 137Cs, 90Sr and 238,239+240Pu and 40K activity concentrations measured in biological samples collected from King George Island (Southern Shetlands, Antarctica), mostly during 2001–2002. The samples included: bones, eggshells and feathers of penguin Pygoscelis papua, bones and feathers of petrel Daption capense, bones and fur of seal Mirounga leonina, algae Himantothallus grandifolius, Desmarestia anceps and Cystosphaera jacquinotii, fish Notothenia corriceps, sea invertebrates Amphipoda, shells of limpet Nacella concina, lichen Usnea aurantiaco-atra, vascular plants Deschampsia antarctica and Colobanthus quitensis, fungi Omphalina pyxidata, moss Sanionia uncinata and soil. The results show a large variation in some activity concentrations. Samples from the marine environment had lower contamination levels than those from terrestrial ecosystems. The highest activity concentrations for all radionuclides were found in lichen and, to a lesser extent, in mosses, probably because lichens take up atmospheric pollutants and retain them. The only significant correlation (except for that expected between 238Pu and 239+240Pu) was noted for moss and lichen samples between plutonium and 90Sr. A tendency to a slow decrease with time seems to be occurring. Analyses of the activity ratios show varying fractionation between various radionuclides in different organisms. Algae were relatively more highly contaminated with plutonium and radiostrontium, and depleted with radiocesium. Feathers had the lowest plutonium concentrations. Radiostrontium and, to a lesser extent, Pu accumulated in bones. The present low intensity of fallout in Antarctic has a lower 238Pu/239+240Pu activity ratio than that expected for global fallout. This paper offers a comparison of Muriella decolor specimens from different geographical regions and habitats (limestone caves in Poland and ice denuded areas near the Ecology Glacier, King George Island, South Shetland Islands, West Antarctic). Morphological and cytological variability, ecology and life strategies of M. decolor were studied in fresh samples, and also in cultures grown on agar plates. The complete life cycle, with detailed ultrastructural (LM and TEM) analysis are presented. The electron microscopic observations prove that materials identified as M. decolor collected in Poland and the Antarctic have distinct ultrastructural features. These include the chloroplast lamella arrangement, mitochondrial cristae structure and the cell wall thickness.

The study included a sheep flock comprising five genetic groups. The ELISA was applied to perform constant monitoring (every six months) for the infection of ewes with small ruminant lentivirus (SRLV). The research results demonstrated a negative effect of SRLVs infection on lamb rearing that, depending on the genetic group, proved to be lower 1.3%-1.4% compared to the seronegative mothers. At relatively equal fertility (94%-100%) and more differentiated prolificacy (179%-198%) in all the examined groups (except the Suffolk breed), a rearing index was higher in the seronegative animals 6.8%-24.1% compared to the seropositive mothers. The Suffolk breed proved to be the genetic group most susceptible to SRLV infection. A prolificacy of infected ewes was 10% lower, a lamb rearing rate was 13% lower , and a general reproductive performance was 18% lower in comparison to healthy ewes.

We summarize a long-term monitoring of 11 periodic 6.7 GHz methanol masers and a search for new periodic sources. Observations were carried out with the Torun 32 m telescope. Periods of observed sources range from 29 to 658 days and the data consist of more than 10 observed cycles for most of the masers. Inspection of archival data resulted in identification of 3 new periodic sources while 2 new periodic objects were found in observations started in 2014. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A strong outburst of 6.7 GHz methanol maser occurred in the high-mass young stellar object (HMYSO) G24.33+0.14 between November 2010 and January 2013. The target was observed with the Torun 32 m radio telescope as a part of a long-term monitoring programme. Almost all twelve spectral features from 108 to 120 km s−1 varied synchronously with time delays between the flux minima of about two weeks. This may indicate that the variability is driven by global changes in the pump rate. The flare peaks of the two features with the highest relative amplitude of 40-60 are delayed by about 2.5 months while their profiles undergo essential transformation with a velocity drift of 0.23 km s−1yr−1. This may suggest that the variability is caused by a rapid increase of the pump rate and excitation of a large portion of the HMYSO environment by an accretion event. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
