Background: The metastatic spread of feline lymphoma to the peritoneum ("lymphomatosis") has been rarely reported in the literature. The sonographic features specific to this rare disease manifestation have not been described and have important treatment and prognostic considerations prompting definitive diagnosis., Objectives: To describe the ultrasonic features of feline peritoneal lymphomatosis., Animals: Four cats with alimentary lymphoma and peritoneal metastasis confirmed using cytology, histology, or both., Results: The sonographic features described include either a nonobstructive, focally diffuse, and circumferential intestinal mass, or an eccentric, focally diffuse, gastric mass. The intestinal and gastric lesions exhibited hypo-to-anechoic transmural wall thickening with loss of wall layering in association with discrete-to-coalescing plaques or sheets of thickened, hypoechoic tissue throughout the mesentery or omenta. All cases exhibited only small volumes of anechoic free peritoneal fluid. Three of the 4 cats also had multiple small hypoechoic nodular foci on the parietal and/or visceral peritoneal surfaces. Two cats had bilateral renomegaly because of lymphoma invasion (2/4) and 1 cat had local lymphadenopathy secondary to lymphoma invasion (1/4)., Conclusions and Clinical Importance: Peritoneal lymphomatosis is a rare manifestation of lymphoma metastasis and to date appears to be associated specifically with B-cell alimentary lymphoma., (Copyright © 2018 The Authors. We investigate the possibility of using a flat-fold beam steering mirror for a cosmic microwave background B-mode experiment. An aluminium flat-fold mirror is found to add ∼0.075% polarization, which varies in a scan synchronous way. Objective: Assessment of the 2-year outcome of laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy., Design: A prospective observational study of women undergoing laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy for prolapse., Setting: A tertiary referral unit in the North West of England., Population: A total of 22 women taking part in a prospective longitudinal study of prolapse who had a laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy between September 2002 and January 2005., Methods: Women attended a research clinic where they completed validated quality-of-life questionnaires and were examined. Women were assessed preoperatively and postoperatively at 6 months, 1 year and 2 years., Main Outcome Measures: Pelvic organ support assessed by Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantification score. Assessment of the degree and impact of vaginal, urinary and bowel symptoms using validated quality-of-life questionnaires., Results: At a mean follow up of 26.5 months, all 22 women had stage 0 vault support with 21 cured of prolapse symptoms. Stress urinary incontinence resolved in half of women without concomitant continence surgery. Bowel symptoms were uncommon, but of those reporting postoperative bowel symptoms, approximately one-third had no symptoms prior to surgery. No new onset dyspareunia was reported in those women sexually active at 2 years., Conclusions: Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy is a safe and effective treatment for vault prolapse, providing excellent vault support in the medium term. The outcome for anterior and posterior support is less predictable, and anatomical outcome correlated poorly with functional outcome. more...

Introduction and Hypothesis: The aim of this study is to provide long-term outcome data, at least 10 years, following laparoscopic colposuspension., Methods: The study includes a control group who underwent open colposuspension. A consecutive series of 139 women who had undergone laparoscopic colposuspension were reviewed and compared to 52 women who had an open colposuspension in the same unit. Subjects were contacted by telephone, at least 10 years post-operatively, at which time a structured interview was performed which included the short-form Bristol Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptom questionnaire., Results: There was deterioration in subjective cure rates from 71% and 67% at 6 months to 52% and 36% at 10 years for the laparoscopic and open procedures, respectively., Conclusion: This study provides evidence that laparoscopic colposuspension is probably as durable as open colposuspension. However, cure rates for both procedures appear to deteriorate over time, emphasising the importance of long-term follow-up. more...
