Additionally, TCAs are used to treat other conditions such as chronic pain and enuresis in children. Due to their numerous side effects and potential for drug interactions, cases of poisoning and death from TCA overdose, particularly amitriptyline, are on the rise. Therefore, this article revisits the overview and describes the clinical progression regarding blood gases, ECG, and electrolytes of the patient, as well as the use of 4.2% sodium bicarbonate and 2% lidocaine to treat cases of amitriptyline overdose poisoning.Case Presentation: A 49-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital due to cardiac and respiratory arrest. The patient had a past medical history of untreated cervical cancer and sleep disorders. Prior to admission, the patient had taken about 20 tablets of amitriptyline 25mg and was in a drowsy state with gasping breaths. During transportation to the hospital, the patient experienced cardiac arrest once and was successfully resuscitated, with a total arrest and resuscitation time of approximately 10 minutes.Results: The use of 4.2% Sodium Bicarbonate and 2% Lidocaine, the patient was not used plasma exchange in this case, proved effective in this case. Continuous monitoring of blood gas levels, ECG, and electrolytes was maintained. The patient was able to walk independently and was discharged after 12 days of treatment.Conclusion: The key factor was the healthcare staff’s quick recognition and timely management of TCA poisoning, in this case, amitriptyline.Keywords: tricyclic antidepressants, amitriptyline, cardiac arrhythmia

Tailoring the electronic, optical, and transport properties of low-dimensional semiconductor materials is essential to improve the light-conversion efficiency of thin-film solar cell materials. Here, using first-principles calculations and non-equilibrium Green functions, we investigate the enhancement of optoelectronic and transport properties of armchair graphene nanoribbons (AGNRs) upon adsorption of cadmium selenide clusters. Upon adsorption of a CdSe diatomic molecule on an AGNR, the most energetically favorable configuration is the cadmium end sitting on top of a carbon atom. The corresponding electronic bandgap reduces ∼5 times with respect to that of the pristine system, thanks to the formation of a polaron state formed by the p-orbital of the selenide atom. Upon adsorption of CdSe cyclohexane molecules, the bandgap of this system slightly shrinks by 0.121 eV with respect to the pristine system. The charge accumulation induced by these clusters significantly enhances the absorption coefficient of the adsorbed systems, resulting in a red shift of the optical spectra toward the infrared region. More interestingly, by solving the Bethe–Salpeter equations with the Tamm–Dancoff approximation, we provide a direct link between the first-principles optical prediction and experimental observations. In addition, the electron transfer from these molecules to the hosted systems increases the transmission spectra in the vicinity of the Fermi level, leading to a remarkable electronic current passing through these scattering regions. These results highlight the role of cadmium selenide clusters in enhancing the light-to-energy conversion efficiency of next-generation solar cell devices.

Smart grid networks face several cyber-attacks, where distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks distract the grid network. The synchrophasor technique protects the wide-area measurement system (WAMS) from the complex problem and addresses different issues in a grid. The DDoS attack detection strategy is complicated due to attack complexities, vendor specifications, and communication standard protocols. Attacker target phasor measurement unit (PMU) data on the phasor data concentrator (PDC) database in WAMS. However, during the cyber-attack, the framework ensures the end application uses the normal PDC datastream. The proposed attack detection technique efficiently verifies PMU-generated data in WAMS. However, numerous machine learning algorithms are used to detect DDoS attacks, but the best detection model is still given open choices. The motivation of this study: (a) which machine learning algorithm will be suitable for DDoS attack detection and (b) what would be the accuracy of training algorithms. This study presents a machine learning-based hybrid technique that achieves 83.23% accuracy. Python compiler is used to execute the proposed model, and the result shows that the proposed detection approach efficiently improves the DDoS attack detection accuracy.

This paper examines the impact of the dike systems on river flows in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD). The study combined a hydrological change index method and the Mann–Kendall test to assess the temporal dynamics of both discharge and water levels along the main rivers of the VMD. Results highlight that the system of rivers and canals helps facilitate waterway traffic and drainage during the flood season. However, the low elevation of the delta has created conditions suitable for saline water to increasingly penetrate upstream during the dry season. Observed changes in the hydrological indicators at the upstream stations of Tan Chau (Mekong River) and Chau Doc (Bassac River) are not only due to the dike system but also upstream alterations to the flow regime. More research is needed to consider the various drivers of flow-regime change associated with natural and human activities both inside and outside of the study area. This study shows an attempt to investigate the listening problems encountered by English-major students from Vinh University and then explored whether there exist inter-relations between English listening activities and English listening tests. A questionnaire is administered and sent out to 193 English-major students and the follow-up interviews are conducted to specify the findings. The results indicate that the students struggled with listening skills due to three main sources: speakers, listeners and materials. In addition, the findings also reveal that English listening activities are mostly aligned with given English listening test items. Finally, pedagogical implications are proposed to help English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students enhance their listening skills and teachers to adjust their teaching methods appropriately.

This study addressed the issue of recycling waste plastic bottles as recycled plastic fiber (RPF) into sustainable waste plastic fiber-reinforced concrete (WPFRC). Thus, the effects of different RPF lengths (30, 50, and 70 mm), widths (2, 4, and 6 mm), and contents (0.3, 0.45, and 0.6 vol%) on the performance of WPFRC were systematically evaluated through the laboratory test series of workability, fresh unit weight, compressive and flexural strengths, drying shrinkage, water absorption, and ultrasonic pulse velocity. Results indicated that the addition of RPF had a negligible effect on the fresh properties of the WPFRC mixtures, while significantly enhancing the load-bearing capacity and reducing drying shrinkage in the WPFRC specimens, particularly at early ages. Additionally, all WPFRC specimens exhibited low water absorption rates and high ultrasonic pulse velocities, indicating good quality and durability. Overall, the study found that an RPF content of 0.45% by volume, an RPF length of 70 mm, and an RPF width of 2 mm yielded the best performance for WPFRC. As a result, incorporating RPF into concrete fosters the development of strong, durable, and sustainable materials for green construction.

This study examines the changing rainfall patterns in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD) utilizing observational data spanning from 1978 to 2022. We employ the Mann–Kendall test, the sequential Mann–Kendall test, and innovative trend analysis to investigate trends in annual, wet, and dry season rainfall, as well as daily rainfall events. Our results show significant spatial variations. Ca Mau, a coastal province, consistently showed higher mean annual and seasonal rainfall compared to the further inland stations of Can Tho and Moc Hoa. Interestingly, Ca Mau experienced a notable decrease in annual rainfall. Conversely, Can Tho, showed an overall decrease in some months of the wet season and an increase in dry season rainfall. Furthermore, Moc Hoa showed an increase in the number of rainy days, especially during the dry season. Principal component analysis (PCA) further revealed strong correlations between annual rainfall and extreme weather events, particularly for Ca Mau, emphasizing the complex interplay of geographic and climatic factors within the region. Our findings offer insights for policymakers and planners, thus aiding the development of targeted interventions to manage water resources and prepare for changing climate conditions.

Peristaltic movement of the intestine propels food down the length of the gastrointestinal tract to promote nutrient absorption. Interactions between intestinal macrophages and the enteric nervous system regulate gastrointestinal motility, yet we have an incomplete understanding of the molecular mediators of this crosstalk. Here, we identify complement component 1q (C1q) as a macrophage product that regulates gut motility. Macrophages were the predominant source of C1q in the mouse intestine and most extraintestinal tissues. Although C1q mediates the complement-mediated killing of bacteria in the bloodstream, we found that C1q was not essential for the immune defense of the intestine. Instead, C1q-expressing macrophages were located in the intestinal submucosal and myenteric plexuses where they were closely associated with enteric neurons and expressed surface markers characteristic of nerve-adjacent macrophages in other tissues. Mice with a macrophage-specific deletion of C1qa showed changes in enteric neuronal gene expression, increased neurogenic activity of peristalsis, and accelerated intestinal transit. Our findings identify C1q as a key regulator of gastrointestinal motility and provide enhanced insight into the crosstalk between macrophages and the enteric nervous system.

Background The evaluation of nutrient variability plays a crucial role in accessing soil potentials and practical intervention responses in rice production systems. Synthetic fertilizer applications and cultivation practices are considered key factors affecting nutrient dynamics and availability. Here, we assessed the nutrient dynamics in surface, subsurface water and soil under local water management and conventional rice cultivation practices in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. Methods We implemented a field experiment (200 m 2) in the 2018 wet season and the 2019 dry season in a triple rice-cropping field. Surface water, subsurface water (30–45 cm), and topsoil (0–20 cm) were collected eight samples during the rice-growing seasons to clarify its nutrient dynamic. Results The results showed that N-NH 4 +, P-PO 4 3- and total P peaks were achieved after fertilizing. Irrespective of seasons, the nutrient content in surface water was always greater than that of subsurface water ( P0.05). When comparing the wet and dry seasons, nutrient concentrations exhibited minor differences ( P>0.05). Under conventional rice cultivation, the effects of synthetic fertilizer topdressing on the total N, soil organic matter (SOM), and total P were negligible in the soil. Higher rates of N fertilizer application did not significantly increase soil N-NH 4 +, total N, yet larger P fertilizer amounts substantially enhanced soil total P ( P

Selecting treatment options in acute arterial thrombosis of the lower extremity, which threatens limb viability, is still a challenge for vascular surgeons. Early restoration of blood flow is crucial and is conducted by surgical thrombectomies or endovascular procedures, depending on patient condition. Catheter-directed thrombolysis with or without percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy for acute limb ischemia has been widely implemented from the early 1990s. Here, we present 2 cases of acute thrombosis of below-the-knee arteries, where we successfully saved the involved limbs using catheter-directed thrombolysis and thrombus aspiration.

Information technology expressively improves remote electricity measurement and monitoring. Integrating Dynamic Thermal Current Rating (DTCR) software packs with the exclusive phasor measurement-based Wide Area Measurement (WAM) framework, the remote Transmission Lines (TLs) current rating can be measured. WAM is used for data acquisition from different sensors, and also allows data transmissions and processing for which sensor cloud system (SCS) plays a vital role. DTCR with phasor-measurement based WAM framework is mainly used to analyze and determine the current ratings of overhead TLs using weather condition estimation or prediction methods. However, the recent study suggests that the accuracy of the DTCR has become an issue in the smart grid of Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB). Hence, this article studies and discusses the relevant models and systems, and then proposes an improved thermal pi (π) model for the transmission line thermal model of DTCR software in WAM Framework. The performance of the improved π model will be distinguished from the existing thermal model. The weather factors that bring a substantial impact on the current rating is also considered, where the relevant data is monitored via different weather sensors. Besides, this study also focuses on calibrating the DTCR through phasor measurement in the WAM system, as well as the field measured data. All the data is collected from relevant sensors, and a detailed comparative analysis is provided based on the proposed model for the sake of improving the reliability of the system. The performance analysis of the thermal models is evaluated using Matlab software-based numerical analysis.

This study presents a novel multilevel inverter structure that can operate in both switched capacitor and asymmetric DC source modes. In the first mode, it can produce seven-level output voltage employing two switched capacitors and one single DC supply. The five-level output voltage is produced while operating the second mode. The voltage ratio between the input and output voltage for the capacitor mode is 1:3 (triple voltage gain). During the first mode, the capacitor of the inverter is self -balanced whereas the inverter can produce higher voltage output in the DC source mode. The proposed inverter reduces the total standing voltage in both modes of operations as it can generate the output voltage without requiring any additional H-bridge circuit. The feasibility and predominate features of the proposed inverter have been established by comparing with existing topologies in terms of power components count. Results obtained from this study are validated using simulation employing sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM). A hardware prototype has also been developed for further validation.

This study aimed to focus on assessing the relationship between anthropometric indexes (body mass index (BMI), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR)) and high blood pressure to determine which is the best predictor for high blood pressure among adults over 18 years in Vietnam.Methods: A cross-sectional study of 1636 people was conducted. People who were over 18 years old, healthy or had hyperlipidemia and on the treatment were recruited. Patients with cancer, heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, and hypertension were excluded. Information on demographics, smoking and drinking habits, weight, height, waist circumference, and blood pressure was collected. Areas under receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs) were examined to determine the predictability of anthropometric indicators for high blood pressure in men and women. Logistic regression analysis, stratified by gender, was performed to examine the association between anthropometric indexes and high blood pressure.Results: In this study, the percentage of people with high blood pressure was 10.51%. The AUC for the WHtR was significantly greater than for the BMI for both genders. Logistic regression demonstrated that only WHtR had a significant positive association with high blood pressure among women. The optimal WHtR cut-off value for predicting high blood pressure in men and women were 0.47 and 0.50, respectively.Conclusion: Among the indicators analyzed in this study, WHtR was the best for the predicting of the presence of high blood pressure, in both men and women. The UC Berkeley Safe Transportation Research and Education Center (SafeTREC) has released the California Traffic Safety Survey 2024. The study was led by Ewald & Wasserman Research Consultants (E&W) and conducted on behalf of the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and SafeTREC.The California Traffic Safety Survey has been conducted annually since 2010 to gain a better understanding of a range of traffic safety behaviors, and to help inform traffic safety programs and public education campaigns. This year’s survey was conducted with an online panel of California drivers in all California counties for a total of 2,507 respondents, with the majority of those surveyed (57.9% weighted) coming from Southern California and falling within the 18-44 age range.

Background: Newborns commonly experience pain due to a variety of reasons. Non-nutritive sucking (NNS) is thought to be an effective non-pharmacological method of pain-relief. However, the significant heterogeneity in some systematic reviews limited the certainty of the findings about NNS. Hence, this study was aimed at evaluating the analgesic effect and safety of NNS in healthy term neonates during the heel prick test, using the Neonatal Pain Agitation and Sedation Scale (N-PASS). Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, 42 term infants were included: 22 infants in the intervention group (receiving NNS) and 20 infants in the control group (not receiving NNS). In the intervention group, neonates were given a silicone pacifier 120 s before, during, and 120 s after the heel puncture, while neonates in the control group received routine care. Pain-related outcomes were assessed using the N-PASS at 30s, 60s, 90s, and 120s after the heel prick. Any adverse events during the procedure were noted. The Spearman correlation coefficients between the pain scores on the N-PASS and two other scales (NFCS and NIPS) were calculated at all four moments of evaluation. Results: The mean N-PASS pain scores at 30s, 60s, 90s, and 120s after heel prick were significantly lower in the NNS group than in the control group: 4.73 ± 2.78 vs. 7.90 ± 1.52 (p = 0.0002); 3.64 ± 3.06 vs. 5.55 ± 2.95 (p = 0.052); 2.59 ± 3.08 vs. 5.25 ± 3.51 (p = 0.011); and 2.05 ± 2.94 vs. 4.90 ± 3.99 (p = 0.013), respectively. No adverse events were detected in either group. This study presented an overview of current developments in optical micro-electromechanical systems in biomedical applications. Optical micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) is a particular class of MEMS technology. It combines micro-optics, mechanical elements, and electronics, called the micro-opto electromechanical system (MOEMS). Optical MEMS comprises sensing and influencing optical signals on micron-level by incorporating mechanical, electrical, and optical systems. Optical MEMS devices are widely used in inertial navigation, accelerometers, gyroscope application, and many industrial and biomedical applications. Due to its miniaturised size, insensitivity to electromagnetic interference, affordability, and lightweight characteristic, it can be easily integrated into the human body with a suitable design. This study presented a comprehensive review of 140 research articles published on photonic MEMS in biomedical applications that used the qualitative method to find the recent advancement, challenges, and issues. The paper also identified the critical success factors applied to design the optimum photonic MEMS devices in biomedical applications. With the systematic literature review approach, the results showed that the key design factors could significantly impact design, application, and future scope of work. The literature of this paper suggested that due to the flexibility, accuracy, design factors efficiency of the Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors, the demand has been increasing for various photonic devices. Except for FBG sensing devices, other sensing systems such as optical ring resonator, Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI), and photonic crystals are used, which still show experimental stages in the application of biosensing. Due to the requirement of sophisticated fabrication facilities and integrated systems, it is a tough choice to consider the other photonic system. Miniaturisation of complete FBG device for biomedical applications is the future scope of work. Even though there is a lot of experimental work considered with an FBG sensing system, commercialisation of the final FBG device for a specific application has not been seen noticeable progress in the past.

An assessment of varying density, species composition and dynamics of phytoplankton in a combined rice-shrimp culture was carried out in My Xuyen district, Soc Trang province in the Vietnamese Mekong delta. Water was sampled six times at six separate locations within the culture system, on days 1, 20, 34, 57, 68, and day 81 of the rice-shrimp crop cycle. The results showed the abundance of 95 phytoplankton species belonging to five phyla including Cyanophyta, Chlorophyta, Bacillariophyta, Euglenophyta, and Pyrrophyta. The values of Shannon–Wiener index indicated high phytoplankton diversity, while the water quality ranged from medium to good. A Cluster Analysis showed that the phytoplankton density variation can be divided into three distinct periods. The initial phase of crop growth was dominated by Pandorina morum, Pediastrum simplex, Eudorina elegans, Oscillatoria limosa, and Anabaena circinalis. The midstage, reproductive phase of crop growth was dominated by Scenedesnus acuminatus, Pediastrum duplex, Closterinm setaceum, Scenedesnus quadricauda, and Actinastnum hantzschii. Whereas Scenedesnus acuminatus, Scenedesnus quadricauda, Closterinm closterioides, Staurastrum arcuatum, Euglena nhrenbergii, and Phacus lnsmorensis were dominant at the end of crop cycle. The findings provide useful information on phytoplankton assemblages in a typical rice-shrimp culture, which has recently gained popularity as an adaptive livelihood system.

This research aims to compare the performance of ARIMA as a linear model with that of the combination of ARIMA and GARCH family models to forecast S&P500 log returns in order to construct algorithmic investment strategies on this index. We used the data collected from Yahoo Finance with daily frequency for the period from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2019. By using a rolling window approach, we compared ARIMA with the hybrid models to examine whether hybrid ARIMA-SGARCH and ARIMA-EGARCH can really reflect the specific time-series characteristics and have better predictive power than the simple ARIMA model. In order to assess the precision and quality of these models in forecasting, we compared their equity lines, their forecasting error metrics (MAE, MAPE, RMSE, MAPE), and their performance metrics (annualized return compounded, annualized standard deviation, maximum drawdown, information ratio, and adjusted information ratio). The main contribution of this research is to show that the hybrid models outperform ARIMA and the benchmark (Buy&Hold strategy on S&P500 index) over the long term. These results are not sensitive to varying window sizes, the type of distribution, and the type of the GARCH model.

In Vietnam, the fire protection for steel structures is relativity much; thus, the study of fire protection solutions for the load-bearing steel structures (beams, columns) is considered very important in the safety of the buildings. One possible solution is the use of gypsum plasterboard. Up to now, the engineers use the constant thermal conductivity to verify the fire resistance of steel structures protected by gypsum plasterboard. However, the thermal conductivity depends on many factors such as temperature, moisture, thickness, type of plasterboard, manufacturer, heating rate. This paper presents an experimental identification of the thermal conductivity of gypsum plasterboard fabricated under fire conditions.

The research was conducted to explore the relationships between the factors of career development, team spirit, relationship at work, compensation and benefit, working environment, job stress and the factor of employee performance through a mediation of job satisfaction in Hospitality Industry in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Based on previous theoretical and empirical studies, the research conceptual framework and hypotheses were constructed. The primary data was collected from a questionnaire survey with 711 respondents. Multiple regression and Path analyses were conducted to test the research hypotheses, the results showed that career development, team spirit, relationship at work, compensation and benefit, working environment, and employee job satisfaction positively and directly impacted on employee performance. In addition, all factors indirectly influenced employee performance through job satisfaction. Hence, organizations operating in hospitality industry in Ho Chi Minh City should understand better employee expectations to efficiently and effectively improve and manage their human resources.

Environment and diet are two major factors affecting the human gut microbiome. In this study, we used a pig model to determine the impact of these two factors during lactation on the gut microbiome, immune system, and growth performance. We assigned 80 4-day-old pigs from 20 sows to two rearing strategies at lactation: conventional rearing on sow’s milk (SR) or isolated rearing on milk replacer supplemented with solid feed starting on day 10 (IR). At weaning (day 21), SR and IR piglets were co-mingled (10 pens of 4 piglets/pen) and fed the same corn-soybean meal-dried distiller grain with solubles- and antibiotic-free diets for eight feeding phase regimes. Fecal samples were collected on day 21, 62, and 78 for next-generation sequencing of the V4 hypervariable region of the bacterial 16S rRNA gene. Results indicate that IR significantly increased swine microbial diversity and changed the microbiome structure at day 21. Such changes diminished after the two piglet groups were co-mingled and fed the same diet. Post-weaning growth performance also improved in IR piglets. Toward the end of the nursery period (NP), IR piglets had greater average daily gain (0.49 vs. 0.41 kg/d; P < 0.01) and average daily feed intake (0.61 vs. 0.59 kg/d; P < 0.01) but lower feed efficiency (0.64 vs. 0.68; P = 0.05). Consequently, IR piglets were heavier by 2.9 kg (P < 0.01) at the end of NP, and by 4.1 kg (P = 0.08) at market age compared to SR piglets. Interestingly, pigs from the two groups had similar lean tissue percentage. Random forest analysis showed that members of Leuconostoc and Lactococcus best differentiated the IR and SR piglets at weaning (day 21), were negatively correlated with levels of Foxp3 regulatory T cell populations on day 20, and positively correlated with post-weaning growth performance. Our results suggest that rearing strategies may be managed so as to accelerate early-life establishment of the swine gut microbiome to enhance growth performance in piglets.

With the large amount of pharmacological and biological knowledge available in literature, finding novel drug indications for existing drugs using in silico approaches has become increasingly feasible. Typical literature-based approaches generate new hypotheses in the form of protein-protein interactions networks by means of linking concepts based on their cooccurrences within abstracts. However, this kind of approaches tends to generate too many hypotheses, and identifying new drug indications from large networks can be a time-consuming process.In this work, we developed a method that acquires the necessary facts from literature and knowledge bases, and identifies new drug indications through automated reasoning. This is achieved by encoding the molecular effects caused by drug-target interactions and links to various diseases and drug mechanism as domain knowledge in AnsProlog, a declarative language that is useful for automated reasoning, including reasoning with incomplete information. Unlike other literature-based approaches, our approach is more fine-grained, especially in identifying indirect relationships for drug indications.To evaluate the capability of our approach in inferring novel drug indications, we applied our method to 943 drugs from DrugBank and asked if any of these drugs have potential anti-cancer activities based on information on their targets and molecular interaction types alone. A total of 507 drugs were found to have the potential to be used for cancer treatments. Among the potential anti-cancer drugs, 67 out of 81 drugs (a recall of 82.7%) are indeed known cancer drugs. In addition, 144 out of 289 drugs (a recall of 49.8%) are non-cancer drugs that are currently tested in clinical trials for cancer treatments. These results suggest that our method is able to infer drug indications (original or alternative) based on their molecular targets and interactions alone and has the potential to discover novel drug indications for existing drugs.
