Introduction:Child abuse is a global problem that is deeply rooted in the cultural, social, and economic performance of society. It is a behavior that occurs in various forms of physical, mental, emotional, or sexual, which can cause harm to the health, welfare, and education of the child. The present study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of child abuse and its related factors in Iran.Methods:In the present systematic review study, to find articles related to the prevalence of child abuse in Iran, valid databases such as Scopus, PubMed, Cochrane, SID, Magiran, IranDoc, and Google Scholar was were searched using the keywords of “child abuse”, “physical abuse” “emotional abuse”,” neglect”, “prevalence” and “Iran”.Results: In this study, 22 articles were analyzed. Based on this review about 4.5%-58.2% of children reported physical abuse, 7.3%-91.6% emotional abuse, and 5.5%-85.3% neglect. Factors associated with child abuse were hyperactivity anxiety and mental status disorder. All studies showed a significant relationship of abuses with education, occupation, addiction, and divorce of parents. Moreover, depression and anxiety of parents and poor parental relationships were related to abuse of children. Conclusion: Child abuse has many negative effects on childish and adolescent health. It seems that child abuse in Iran is in critical condition; therefore, policymakers must take action to solve this problem and prevent it by designing special programs and effective policies in Iran.

Background and Aim: Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is one of the most common gynecologic problems among the women of childbearing age. Considering the adverse effects of chemical therapies, we performed this systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the effect of honey and yogurt on vaginal candidiasis. Material and Methods: In this systematic review and meta-analysis we searched databases of PubMed, ISI Web of science, Scopus, Cochrane, SID, Magiran ,Irandoc , Google Scholar, using the following sets of keywords: (Vulvovaginal candidiasis, Genital vulvovaginal Candidiasis, Candidiasis, genital vulvovaginal, Candida albicans, Monilial vaginitis, Vaginal yeast infections, Yeast infections, Vaginal, Genital candidiasis, Vulvovaginal moniliasis), (Treatment, Azole, Antifungal agents, Antifungal fungicides, Therapeutic fungicides, clotrimazole, clotrimazole),(honey, Bee-honey),yogurt,(controlled trial, clinical trial) and their Persian equivalent .Data were analyzed by Stata software. Heterogeneity was assessed by chi-square and I2 index and we used the random effects models to pool the data. Results: Heterogeneity analysis showed no heterogeneity between the results of studies in regard to complaints of itching, redness and vaginal inflammation and vaginal discharge caused by candida vulvovaginitis. After comparing honey & yogurt group with control group we found (95% CI: 0.09-0.99, p = 0.002, OR = 0.22) for clinical symptom of pruritus and (95% CI: 0.11-0.87; p = 0.026, OR=0.95) for clinical symptoms of redness and inflammation of vulva and vagina and and (95% CI: 0.13-0.82, OR = 0.32, p= 0.018) for vaginal discharge, which were statistically significant. Conclusion: The results of meta-analysis showed that the effect of honey and yogurt on vaginal candidiasis was statistically significant. Therefore, honey and yogurt can be used as an alternative treatment or in addition to the chemical antifungal drugs in the treatment of vaginal candidiasis. Breast-feeding initiation within the first half hour after birth is one of the World Health Organization recommendations. However, in most hospitals, mother-infant contact and breast-feeding initiation are delayed due to routine mother and infant care. This study aimed to determine the effect of mother-infant skin to skin contact (SSC) immediately after birth on the success rate and duration of the first breast-feeding.In this review, databases of PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, Google Scholar, SID and Magiran and reference sections of relevant articles were searched for both Persian and English randomized clinical trials from 2000 to December 2017, using the keywords of “(Breast-feeding OR Lactation) AND (mother-infant SSC OR KMC) AND (breast-feeding success OR breast-feeding duration)”. A total of nine trials were ultimately included. Data analysis was performed with Comprehensive Meta-analysis (CMA) software version 2.In total 597 participants were assigned to the intervention group and 553 participants were assigned to the comparison group. Quantitative analysis Based on mean differences or odds ratio showed that Mother-Infant SSC had a significantly positive effect on success in first breast-feeding (MD:1.90, 95%; CI 0.958–2.856; p = 0.00, OR: 2.771 95%; CI 1.587–4.838; p = 0.00) and first breast-feeding duration (MD:26.627 95%; CI 1.070–52.184; p = 0.041).Mother-infant SSC after birth has beneficial effects on breast-feeding and can increase the success rate and duration of the first lactation. Therefore, the results of this study can be used by healthcare providers in evidence-based decision-making about ways to increase breast-feeding rates. Introduction: Reducing maternal and neonatal mortality requires improved care quality; the aim of this study was to determine various dimensions of the quality of services in maternity wards in Iran from the patient’s perspective. Methods: In this cross-sectional study which was conducted from April to October 2017, 363 patients were selected from maternity wards of five hospitals affiliated to Mashhad University of Medical Sciences by convenience sampling method. Data collection tools consisted of the SERVUSE (Service Usability questionnaire), including 51 items in 6 dimensions of services quality; its validity and reliability were determined in previous studies. Data analysis was performed using SPSS, version 20. The analysis was performed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods including Wilcoxon, Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. The significance level in all the tests was considered 5%. Results: The total mean scores of the patients’ expectation and perception were 19.10±2.14 and 15.11±4.25, respectively. The highest expectation and perception were related to the usability dimension, and the lowest expectation and perception were related to reliability dimension. The differences between the median score of perception and expectation for all dimensions and total median score of perceptions and expectations were statistically significant (P0.05, using Mann-Whitney and Kruskal Wallis tests). Conclusion: It seems that the service quality of maternity ward of hospitals was approximately unsatisfactory from the patients’ perspective, and they had high expectations in maternity wards of hospitals. Since maternity service quality is critically important, improvement of quality requires management, concordant participation, and efforts of the hospital and staff at all levels of the medical facilities and convenience.

Introduction: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an inflammatory, autoimmune, chronic disease with multi-organ involvement with a remitting and relapsing course that mainly affects women. One of the most important challenges for women affected by SLE is the adverse impacts of the disease on Sexual function. This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted with am to investigate the effects of lupus on women's sexual function. Methods: In this systematic review and meta-analysis study, both Persian and English articles were searched in databases of PubMed, Magiran, Scopus, SID, Google scholar using the keywords of "Systemic Lupus Erythematosus", "Sexual functioning", "sexual activity", "sexual disorder" and their Persian equivalents during 2000 up to December 2017. Data analysis was performed with STATA software (version 14.1). I2 test was used to assess the heterogeneitybetween studies and the random effects model was applied to pool data and perform meta-analysis. Results: A total of 8 articles of 515 studies about the impact of lupus on women's sexual function were extracted, of which 4 studies were included in the quantitative analysis. The findings of included studies into meta-analysis showed that based on the random effects model, systemic lupus erythematosus decreased women's sexual function )RR= 1.58; 95% CI: 1.10-2.25; p=0.001). Conclusion: Considering the negative impact of lupus on women's sexual function, findings of this study can be a basis for designing and implementation of sexual health programs for this group of women so that lead to promotion of their sexual health.

Objective: We performed this systematic review and meta-analysis study to determine saffron (Crocus sativus) effectiveness and safety in male infertility problems. Materials and Methods: The databases PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, Google Scholar, SID, IranMedex and Magiran until July 2016 and reference section of relevant articles, were searched to find both English and Persian clinical trials on male infertility issues that used saffron as medical treatment. Also, the quality of these trials was evaluated by Oxford Center for Evidence Based Medicine checklist. A total of six trials was ultimately included. Objective: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is one of the most common problems among women of reproductive age. The popularity of complementary/alternative therapies has grown in recent years, and these treatments have been more commonly used by women (48.9%) than men (37.8%). The aim of this systematic review was to assess effectiveness and safety of Iranian herbal medicines for treatment of premenstrual syndrome. Methods: PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, and Google Scholar were searched along with SID, Magiran and Irandoc up to Dec 2017. Inclusion criteria consist of Iranian, published, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) using Iranian herbal medicine for treatment of reproductive age women with PMS. Eventually Eighteen RCTs met the inclusion criteria. Results: Overall, studies have shown that Vitex agnuscastus, Hypericum perforatum, Matricaria chamomilla, saffron, Curcumin, Melissa officinalis, Zataria multiflora,Wheat Germ Extract, Echinophora platyloba, Foeniculum vulgare, Valerian root extract, Citrus sinensis, Zingiber officinale andFlax seed might alleviate symptoms of PMS. Conclusion: This research demonstrated efficacy and safety of Iranian herbal medicines in alleviating PMS. Therefore, herbal medicine can be regarded as an alternative treatment for women suffering from PMS.

Introduction and Objectives: Trichomonas vaginitis is the most common non-viral disease transmitted through sexual contact. Metronidazole is the most effective medication that has the same adverse effects as other synthetic drugs. Since medicinal plants have less side effects and more popularity among most people, this study was conducted to review the effects of anti-trichomonas vaginalis plants and their therapeutic effects. Materials and Methods: Persian and English databases, including PubMed, Medline, Scopus, Google Scholar, SID, IranMedex, and Magiran were searched for articles published between 1976 and 2017 using keywords such as ‘Trichomonas vaginalis’, ‘complementary therapies’ and ‘medicinal plants’ and their Persian equivalents. All the relevant in vivo and in vitro trials were included in the study. Overall, 120 papers were retrieved, 25 of which were critically reviewed. Results: The articles reviewed in this study showed that some herbal compounds (e.g., Zataria multiflora Boiss, Allium staivum, Lavandula stoechas, Eucalyptus, and Myrtus communis)are effective in inhibiting the growth of Trichomonas vaginalis, but further human studies are needed to apply them to the treatment of Trichomonas vaginitis. Conclusion: In spite of the beneficial effects of medicinal herbs on the treatment of Trichomonas vaginitis, since most of the studies were in vitro, the application of these plants requires more in vivo studies to take an effective step towards recognizing natural, low-cost, low-risk, and more accessible treatments.Therefore, the results of this study should be used with caution.

Background: Psychological interventions such as counseling for infertile patients seem to increase pregnancy rate. Objective: The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine if counseling improves pregnancy rate among infertile patients. Thus, randomized controlled trials investigating the effect of counseling on pregnancy rate in infertile patients undergoing ART were pooled in a meta-analysis. Materials and Methods: The databases of PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, Google Scholar, and Persian databases including SID, Iran Medex, and Magiran were searched from 1997 to July 2016 to identify relevant articles. Included studies were trials on infertile patients (women or couples) receiving counseling independent of actual medical treatment. The outcome measure was pregnancy rate. Out of 620 relevant published trials, a total of nine RCTs were ultimately reviewed systematically and included in a meta-analysis to measure the efficacy of counseling on pregnancy rate. Odds ratio and Risk difference were calculated for pregnancy rate. All statistical analyses were done by Comprehensive Meta-analysis Version 2. Results: Nine RCTs involving 1079 infertile women/couples were included in the study. The findings from RCTs indicated significant effect of counseling on pregnancy rate so that there was a positive impact of counseling on pregnancy rate (OR= 3.852; 95% CI: 2.492-5.956; p=0.00) and (RD= 0.282; 95%; CI: 0.208-0.355; p=0.00). Conclusion: Counseling was found to improve patients’ chances of becoming pregnant. So counseling represents an attractive treatment option, in particular, for infertile patients who are not receiving medical treatments

Background & Aims: The rate of exclusive breastfeeding has declined in the world and therefore protection, promotion, and support of breastfeeding are considered to be a public health priorities. This study was conducted to explore breastfeeding mother’s perceptions and experiences of appraisal support needs.Method: A qualitative study carried out between 2017 and 2019, in five health centers, four hospitals, and two physicians’ offices affiliated to Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran. Thirty three breastfeeding mothers, family members, and healthcare providers selected, purposively, for individual semi-structured in-depth interviews. Data were analyzed using directed content analysis adopting Elo and Kyngas approach.Results: Four categories and nine subcategories emerged in this study. The first category was 'affirmation from significant others' which contained two subcategories of ‘the need for approval from healthcare providers’ and ‘the need for affirmation from the husband and family members’. The second category was ‘the necessity of avoiding social comparisons due to unpleasant corollaries’, which had two subcategories: ‘unpleasant feelings caused by being compared to others’ and ‘being blamed when compared with others’. The third category was ‘offering constructive feedback’ with two subcategories of ‘providing positive feedback’ and ‘not giving negative feedback’. The fourth category was ‘persuasion’ which had three subcategories of ‘the need to encourage, ‘the need to be admired and ‘the need to be praised by significant others.Conclusion: Mothers need appraisal support to protect, promote and maintain established breastfeeding. Significant others have an important role in meeting the appraisal support needs of breastfeeding mothers.

Introduction: Breastfeeding is an important strategy to ensure health promotion and wellbeing. Since breastfeeding rates have consistently decreased around the world, protection, promotion, and supportive programs are considered as public health priorities. This study aims to explore breastfeeding mothers’ perceptions and experiences of emotional support needs. Methods: This study was performed in five health centers and four hospitals affiliated to Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Iran. Using a qualitative approach, 36 breastfeeding mothers, family members, and health providers attended individual semi-structured in-depth interviews. Data were analyzed using directed content analysis based on the Elo and Kyngas approach, with MAXQDA software version 10. Results: Four categories of ‘need to tranquility and solace’, ‘sense of being loved and belongingness’, ‘creating hope, motivation, and confidence’, and ‘empathy and companionship’, and 12 subcategories including ‘not inducing stress’, ‘relieving the mother’s stress and worries’, ‘creating and maintaining tranquility’, ‘understanding and attention’, ‘receiving affection from significant others’, ‘being respected by others’, ‘ being inspired by significant others’, ‘being assured by family members’, ‘being motivated by significant others’, ‘interacting with others’, ‘having the companionship and presence of others’, and ‘receiving empathy from others’ were identified as the mothers’ emotional support needs. Conclusion: Mothers need emotional support to sustain breastfeeding. Significant others, such as the husband, family members, and health providers play an important role in meeting breastfeeding mothers’ emotional support needs.
