Psilocybin, a serotonergic psychedelic, is being increasingly researched in clinical studies for the treatment of psychiatric disorders. The relatively lengthy duration of oral psilocybins acute effects (4-6 h) may have pragmatic and cost-effectiveness limitations. Here, we explored the effects of intravenous (IV) N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a closely related, but faster-acting psychedelic intervention, on mental health outcomes in healthy volunteers. Data is reported from two separate analyses: (1) A comparison of mental health-related variables 1 week after 7, 14, 18, and 20 mg of IV DMT versus IV saline placebo (n = 13) and, (2) A prospective dataset assessing effects before versus 2 weeks after 20 mg of IV DMT (n = 17). Mental health outcomes included measures of depression severity (QIDS-SR16), trait anxiety (STAI-T), Neuroticism (NEO-FFI), wellbeing (WHO-5), meaning in life (MLQ), optimism (LOT-R), and gratitude (GQ-6). In both the prospective and placebo-controlled datasets, significant improvements in scores of depression were found 1-2 weeks after DMT administration. Significant reductions in trait Neuroticism were only found for the placebo-controlled sample. Finally, changes in depression and trait anxiety correlated with acute peak experiences (assessed via Oceanic Boundlessness). While the use of two separate cohorts in pooled analysis limits the generalizability of these correlational findings, these results suggest that DMT may reduce depressive symptomatology by inducing peak experiences. The short half-life of IV DMT and its potential for flexible dosing via controlled infusions makes it an appealing candidate for psychedelic medicine. Further research in clinical samples is needed to corroborate the therapeutic potential of DMT.

N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is a serotonergic psychedelic that induces a rapid and transient altered state of consciousness when inhaled or injected via bolus administration. Its marked and novel subjective effects make DMT a powerful tool for the neuroscientific study of consciousness and preliminary results show its potential role in treating mental health conditions. In a within-subjects, placebo-controlled study, we investigated a novel method of DMT administration involving a bolus injection paired with a constant-rate infusion, with the goal of extending the DMT experience. Pharmacokinetic parameters of DMT estimated from plasma data of a previous study of bolus intravenous DMT were used to derive dose regimens necessary to keep subjects in steady levels of immersion into the DMT experience over an extended period of 30 min, and four dose regimens consisting of a bolus loading dose and a slow-rate infusion were tested in eleven healthy volunteers (seven male, four female, mean age ± SD = 37.09 ± 8.93 years). The present method is effective for extending the DMT experience in a stable and tolerable fashion. While subjective effects were maintained over the period of active infusion, anxiety ratings remained low and heart rate habituated within 15 min, indicating psychological and physiological safety of extended DMT. Plasma DMT concentrations increased consistently starting 10 min into DMT administration, whereas psychological effects plateaued into the desired steady state, suggesting the development of acute psychological tolerance to DMT. Taken together, these findings demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of continuous IV DMT administration, laying the groundwork for the further development of this method of administration for basic and clinical research.

This manuscript reports a one‐pot synthesis of ternary heteroatoms (N/S/P) co‐doped reduced graphene oxide as an electrode material by simultaneous reduction/doping of/into graphene oxide employing eco‐friendly natural molecule(s) (thiamine monophosphate (TM) and thiamine pyrophosphate (TP)) under mild heating (≤60 °C) and near‐neutral pH (≤8) conditions. It produces N, S, P co‐doped rGO‐TM and N, S, P co‐doped rGO‐TP nanohybrids displaying a well‐connected porous microstructure with significantly doped atomic(%) ‐N (10.0%), S (4.1%), P (0.1%) and N (6.7%), S (2.0%), and P (0.5%), respectively. The symmetric supercapacitor designed using N, S, P‐rGO‐TM‐10 in water‐in‐salt 17 m NaClO4 electrolyte exhibits stable cell voltage of 3.0 V, superb gravimetric energy density (areal energy density) of 47.9 Wh kg−1@522.8 W g−1 (0.2363 Wh cm−2@ 2.5 W cm−2); the excellent cyclic stability (88.8 %) and Coulombic efficiency (99.2%) even after 20 000 cycles. Their energy storage capability is corroborated by the illumination of 109 white LEDs upon lighting a single SSC for 50 s each, driving a motor to run a fan, and forming the tandem device by joining three such cells in series. Rapid, sensitive, and accurate detection of Cr2O72− in the environment is of great significance. This article synthesized water‐soluble N and S‐doped carbon quantum dots (N,S‐CQDs) using a simple hydrothermal self‐assembly pathway through hydrogen bonding of melamine and trithiocyanuric acid. N,S‐CQDs show green fluorescence under visible light excitation at 420 nm, with a high fluorescence quantum yield of 33.4%. Under photo‐induced electron transfer, significant fluorescence dynamic quenching occurred in N,S‐CQDs when a solution containing Cr2O72− was added. Based on this specific response, the selective and sensitive probe for Cr2O72− is achieved, with a wide detection concentration of up to 33 µm. The limits of detection can be as low as 0.11 µm. Most studies about the effects of N addition on soil microbial biomass evaluate soil microbial and physicochemical characteristics using single-test methods, and these studies have not been integrated and analyzed to comprehensively assess the impact of N fertilization on soil microbial biomass. Here, we conduct a meta-analysis to analyze the results of 86 studies characterizing how soil microbial biomass C (MBC), N (MBN), and P (MBP) pools respond to exogenous N addition across multiple land use types. We found that low N addition (5–50 kg/hm2) rates significantly affect soil microbial biomass, mainly by increasing MBC but also by decreasing MBP and significantly increasing MBC/MBP. N addition affects soil physicochemical properties, significantly reducing pH and significantly increasing the soil dissolved organic N and inorganic N content. Our analysis also revealed that the effects of N application vary across ecosystems. N addition significantly decreases MBP and total P in planted forests but does not significantly affect soil microbial biomass in grasslands. In farmland soil, N addition significantly increases total P, NH4+, NO3−, MBN, and MBP but significantly decreases pH. Although N addition can strongly influence soil microbial biomass, its effects are modulated by ecosystem type. The addition of N can negatively affect MBC, MBN, and MBP in natural forest ecosystems, thereby altering global ecosystem balance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Understanding why subjects with overweight and with obesity vary in their response to dietary interventions is of major interest for developing personalized strategies for body mass regulation. Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between changes in the urine metabolome and body mass during a breakfast meal intervention. Furthermore, we aimed to elucidate if the baseline urine metabolome could predict the response to the two types of breakfast meals (high versus low protein) during the intervention. Methods: A total of 75 young, women with overweight were randomly allocated to one of two intervention groups: (1) High-protein (HP) or (2) low-protein (LP) breakfast as part of their habitual diet during a 12-week intervention. Beside the breakfast meal, participants were instructed to eat their habitual diet and maintain their habitual physical activity level. Nuclear magnetic resonance-based metabolomics was conducted on urine samples collected at baseline (wk 0), mid-intervention (wk 6), and at endpoint (wk 12). At baseline and endpoint, body mass was measured and DXA was used to measure lean body mass and fat mass. Results: The baseline urine metabolite profile showed a slightly higher correlation (R2 = 0.56) to body mass in comparison with lean body mass (R2 = 0.51) and fat mass (R2 = 0.53). Baseline 24-h urinary excretion of trigonelline (p = 0.04), N, N-dimethylglycine (p = 0.02), and trimethylamine (p = 0.03) were significantly higher in individuals who responded with a reduction in body mass to the HP breakfast. Conclusions: Differences in the urine metabolome were seen for women that obtained a body weight loss in the response to the HP breakfast intervention and women who did not obtain a body weight loss, indicating that the urine metabolome contains information about the metabolic phenotype that influences the responsiveness to dietary interventions. N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is a psychedelic compound that is being studied as a therapeutic option in various psychiatric disorders. Due to its short half-life, continuous infusion of DMT has been proposed to extend the psychedelic experience and potential therapeutic effects. The primary aim of this work was to design an infusion protocol for DMT based on a desired level of psychedelic intensity using population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modeling. As a secondary aim, the impact of choosing a continuous variable or a bounded integer pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic model to inform such an infusion protocol was investigated. A previously published continuous variable model and two newly developed bounded integer models were used to assess optimal doses for achieving a target response. Simulations were performed to identify an optimal combination of a bolus dose and an infusion rate. Based on the simulations, optimal doses to achieve intensity ratings between 7 and 9 (possible range = 0-10) were a bolus dose of 16 mg DMT fumarate followed by an infusion rate of 1.4 mg/min based on the continuous variable model and 14 mg with 1.2 mg/min for the two bounded integer models. In the production of cyclohexene by benzene hydrogenation, the by-product cyclohexane forms an azeotrope with cyclohexene. For the extraction and distillation of the binary azeotrope (cyclohexene + cyclohexane), the selectivity and relative volatility of 24 different entrainers were compared and the intermolecular interaction forces and interaction energies were analyzed by the DMol3 module of Materials Studio (MS). N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) was identified as the entrainer, and vapour–liquid equilibrium (VLE) data were measured at atmospheric pressure for the binary system {cyclohexane + cyclohexene} with a temperature range of 354 K to 356 K, the binary system {cyclohexane + DMF} with a temperature range of 354 K to 390 K, and the binary system {cyclohexene + DMF} with a temperature range of 357 K to 421 K. In addition, the thermodynamic consistency of the experimental data was checked using the Wisniak and Van Ness method. The Wilson, NRTL, and UNIQUAC models were used to regress and fit the experimental data to optimize the binary interaction parameters, and the root mean square (RMSD) and average absolute deviation (AAD) values of all models were below 0.01%, indicating that the experimental data provide a basis for the simulation and optimization of the extractive distillation process. This article presents the relationship between energy matrices of a dual slope solar desalting unit integrated with a number (N) of photovoltaic thermal flat plate collectors (NPVTFPC‐DSU) and the effect of variation in mass flow rate m˙fr and N for a sustainable solar distillation. Although extensive research has been done on dual slope active solar desalting unit, however, the area of the impact of variation in m˙fr and N on energy matrices of NPVTFPC‐DSU remains still untouched. This study is an attempt to bridge the gap that has been highlighted. An exhaustive analysis is performed considering all types of climatic situations of New Delhi, India. MATLAB is used to calculate the overall energy, exergy, and energy matrices for NPVTFPC‐DSU based on fundamental equations and relevant data as inputs. Concludingly, it is evident that there is a decrease in the value of energy payback period and life cycle conversion efficiency as the value of m˙fr increases at a given value of N for m˙fr ≤ 0.10 kg s−1. For m˙fr>0.10 kg s−1, the values remain constant. For NPVTFPC‐DSU, 6 and 10 are the best and most favorable values of N as far as energy‐based energy matrices and exergy‐based energy matrices are concerned. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The reduction kinetics of N,N′-phenylenebis(salicylideneiminato)iron(III), [Fe(salphen)]+ by thioglycolic acid (TSH) has been carried out in mixed aqueous medium (DMSO:H2O; 1:4) in pseudo-first order condition at 26 ± 1 °C. A CORNING colorimeter 253 was used to monitor the reaction rates by detecting the absorbance reduction of the reaction at 435 nm. The reaction was acid independent, second order overall and demonstrated zero Brønsted-Debye salt effect. Ions such as Mg2+ and CH3COO- catalyzed the reaction. The thermodynamic parameters indicated an activated complex that is much ordered and a highly solvated transition state. Reaction catalysis was observed in the case of sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) inclusion. The critical micelle concentrations obtained for SDS were 8.0 × 10−3 and 3.3 × 10−3 mol dm−3 whereas that observed for CTAB were 2.0 × 10−3 and 2.8 × 10−3 mol dm−3 in water and [Fe(salphen)]+ reaction media respectively. Piszkiewicz model was used to analyze the results which indicated the existence of pre-micellar aggregates and significant electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions between the metal complex and the pre-micellar aggregates of the surfactants. The cooperativity index and binding constants obtained were n = 1.22, K = 4.78 × 104 dm3 mol−1, n = 1.27 and K = 4.55 × 104 dm3 mol−1 respectively for SDS and CTAB. Summary: Variations in arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM) effects on plant growth (MGR) are commonly assumed to result from cost : benefit balances, with C as the cost and, most frequently, P as the benefit. The trade‐balance model (TBM) adopts these assumptions and hypothesizes that mycorrhizal benefit depends on C : N : P stoichiometry. Although widely accepted, the TBM has not been experimentally tested.We isolated the parameters included in the TBM and tested these assumptions using it as framework. Oryza sativa plants were supplied with different N : P ratios at low light level, establishing different C : P and C : N exchange rates, and C, N or P limitation. MGR and effects on nutrient uptake, %M, ERM, photosynthesis and shoot starch were measured.C distribution to AM fungi played no role in MGR, and N was essential for all AM effects, including on P nutrition. C distribution to AM and MGR varied with the limiting nutrient (N or P), and evidence of extensive interplay between N and P was observed.The TBM was not confirmed. The results agreed with the exchange of surplus resources and source–sink regulation of resource distribution among plants and AMF. Cargo encapsulation through emulsion-based methods has been pondered over the years. Although several microemulsification techniques have been employed for the microcapsule's synthesis, there are still no clear guidelines regarding the suitability of one technique over the others or the impacts on the morphological and physicochemical stability of the final particles. Therefore, in this systematic study, we investigated the influence of synthesis parameters on the fabrication of emulsion-based microcapsules concerning morphological and physicochemical properties. Using poly(urea-formaldehyde) (PUF) microcapsules as a model system, and after determining the optimal core/shell ratio, we tested three different microemulsification techniques (magnetic stirring, ultrasonication, and mechanical stirring) and two different cargo types (100% TEGDMA (Triethylene glycol dimethacrylate) and 80% TEGDMA + 20% DMAM (N,N-Dimethylacrylamide)). The resulting microcapsules were characterized via optical and scanning electron microscopies, followed by size distribution analysis. The encapsulation efficiency was obtained through the extraction method, and the percentage reaction yield was calculated. Physicochemical properties were assessed by incubating the microcapsules under different osmotic pressures for 1 day and 1, 2, or 4 weeks. The data were analyzed statistically with one-way ANOVA and Tukey's tests (α = 0.05). Overall, the mechanical stirring resulted in the most homogeneous and stable microcapsules, with an increased reaction yield from 100% to 50% in comparison with ultrasonication and magnetic methods, respectively. The average microcapsule diameter ranged from 5 to 450 µm, with the smallest ones in the ultrasonication and the largest ones in the magnetic stirring groups. The water affinities of the encapsulated cargo influenced the microcapsule formation and stability, with the incorporation of DMAM leading to more homogeneous and stable microcapsules. Environmental osmotic pressure led to cargo loss or the selective swelling of the shells. In summary, this systematic investigation provides insights and highlights commonly overlooked factors that can influence microcapsule fabrication and guide the choice based on a diligent analysis of therapeutic niche requirements. Despite extensive studies on how environmental factors influence plant and soil nutrient distribution and stoichiometry, how the intertidal zone affects plant and soil distribution, and stoichiometry remains unclear. Therefore, this study analyzed the leaf and soil organic carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) concentrations and stoichiometry in mangrove forest wetlands in South China. The results demonstrated that leaf and soil phosphorus concentrations were significantly different in different plants and intertidal zones. The average leaf N:P ratio was 12.85 and was mainly nitrogen-limited. Soil organic carbon at 0-10 cm was higher in the mid- and low intertidal zones, while the opposite was true for the high intertidal zone. The nitrogen concentration at 0-10 cm was less than that at <30-40 cm in both the high and mid-intertidal zones, while the opposite was true for the low intertidal zone. The phosphorus concentration varied similarly to that of carbon. The C:N ratios at both 0-10 cm and 30-40 cm were the highest in the high intertidal zone and decreased with decreasing elevation. Contrastingly, the C:P and N:P ratios did not differ much among the three intertidal zones and between the 0-10-cm and 30-40-cm profiles. The soil C:N ratios significantly correlated with the leaf carbon, phosphorus, and C:P ratio. Overall, the results demonstrated that the soil stoichiometry responded differently to different plant communities and intertidal zones. Abstract: In path-breaking work, Weingast et al. argue that there is a positive relationship between legislature size and inefficiency in public expenditures. Their proposition is currently known as the ‘law of 1/n’ and has been widely debated in political science and public administration. However, recent studies have questioned the validity of the theory. In this letter, we conduct the first meta-analysis that assesses the generality of the ‘law of 1/n’. Based on a sample of thirty articles, we find no robust evidence suggesting that legislature size has either a positive or a negative effect on government budgets. Yet, the aggregate results mask considerable heterogeneity. Our findings provide moderate support for the ‘law of 1/n’ in unicameral legislatures and in upper houses, but they also indicate that studies using panel/fixed-effects models or regression-discontinuity designs report negative public spending estimates. We find only limited evidence that electoral systems impact public spending, which suggests that proportional representation systems may not be more prone to overspending than majoritarian ones.

N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is a psychedelic substance and is being used as a research tool in investigations of the neurobiology behind the human consciousness using different brain imaging techniques. The effects of psychedelics have commonly been studied using electroencephalography (EEG) and have been shown to produce suppression of alpha power and increase in signal diversity. However, the relationship between DMT exposure and its EEG effects has never been quantified. In this work, a population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic analysis was performed investigating the relationship between DMT plasma concentrations and its EEG effects. Data were obtained from a clinical study where DMT was administered by intravenous bolus dose to 13 healthy subjects. The effects on alpha power, beta power, and Lempel-Ziv complexity were evaluated. DMT was shown to fully suppress alpha power. Beta power was only partially suppressed, whereas an increase in Lempel-Ziv complexity was observed. The relationship between plasma concentrations and effects were described using effect compartment models with sigmoidal maximum inhibitory response or maximum stimulatory response models. Values of the concentration needed to reach half of the maximum response (EC50,e ) were estimated at 71, 137, and 54 nM for alpha, beta, and Lempel-Ziv complexity, respectively. A large amount of between-subject variability was associated with both beta power and Lempel-Ziv complexity with coefficients of variability of 75% and 77% for the corresponding EC50,e values, respectively. Alpha power appeared to be the most robust response, with a between-subject variability in EC50,e of 29%. Having a deeper understanding of these processes might prove beneficial in choosing appropriate doses and response biomarkers in the future clinical development of DMT.

Psychedelics have attracted medical interest, but their effects on human brain function are incompletely understood. In a comprehensive, within-subjects, placebo-controlled design, we acquired multimodal neuroimaging [i.e., EEG-fMRI (electroencephalography-functional MRI)] data to assess the effects of intravenous (IV) N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) on brain function in 20 healthy volunteers. Simultaneous EEG-fMRI was acquired prior to, during, and after a bolus IV administration of 20 mg DMT, and, separately, placebo. At dosages consistent with the present study, DMT, a serotonin 2A receptor (5-HT2AR) agonist, induces a deeply immersive and radically altered state of consciousness. DMT is thus a useful research tool for probing the neural correlates of conscious experience. Here, fMRI results revealed robust increases in global functional connectivity (GFC), network disintegration and desegregation, and a compression of the principal cortical gradient under DMT. GFC × subjective intensity maps correlated with independent positron emission tomography (PET)-derived 5-HT2AR maps, and both overlapped with meta-analytical data implying human-specific psychological functions. Changes in major EEG-measured neurophysiological properties correlated with specific changes in various fMRI metrics, enriching our understanding of the neural basis of DMT's effects. The present findings advance on previous work by confirming a predominant action of DMT-and likely other 5-HT2AR agonist psychedelics-on the brain's transmodal association pole, i.e., the neurodevelopmentally and evolutionarily recent cortex that is associated with species-specific psychological advancements, and high expression of 5-HT2A receptors.

BackgroundPast research reports a positive relationship between experience with classic serotonergic psychedelics and nature relatedness (NR). However, these studies typically do not distinguish between different psychedelic compounds, which have a unique psychopharmacology and may be used in specific contexts and with different intentions. Likewise, it is not clear whether these findings can be attributed to substance use per se or unrelated variables that differentiate psychedelic users from nonusers.AimsThe present study was designed to determine the relative degree to which lifetime experience with different psychedelic substances is predictive of self-reported NR among psychedelic-experienced users.MethodsWe conducted a combined reanalysis of five independent datasets (N = 3817). Using standard and regularized regression analyses, we tested the relationship between degree of experience with various psychedelic substances (binary and continuous) and NR, both within a subsample of psychedelic-experienced participants as well as the complete sample including psychedelic-naïve participants.Results/outcomesAmong people experienced with psychedelics, only past use of psilocybin (versus LSD, mescaline, Salvia divinorum, ketamine, and ibogaine) was a reliable predictor of NR and its subdimensions. Weaker, less reliable results were obtained for the pharmacologically similar N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT). Results replicate when including psychedelic-naïve participants. In addition, among people exclusively experience with psilocybin, use frequency positively predicted NR.Conclusions/interpretationResults suggest that experience with psilocybin is the only reliable (and strongest) predictor of NR. Future research should focus on psilocybin when investigating effects of psychedelic on NR and determine whether pharmacological attributes or differences in user expectations/use settings are responsible for this observation.

N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is a psychedelic compound that is believed to have potential as a therapeutic option in several psychiatric disorders. The number of clinical investigations with DMT is increasing. However, very little is known about the pharmacokinetic properties of DMT as well as any relationship between its exposure and effects. This study aimed to characterize population pharmacokinetics of DMT as well as the relationship between DMT plasma concentrations and its psychedelic effects as measured through subjective intensity ratings. Data were obtained from 13 healthy subjects after intravenous administration of DMT. The data were analyzed using nonlinear mixed-effects modeling in NONMEM. DMT plasma concentrations were described by a two-compartment model with first-order elimination leading to formation of the major metabolite indole 3-acetic acid. The relationship between plasma concentrations and psychedelic intensity was described by an effect site compartment model with a sigmoid maximum effect (Emax ) response. DMT clearance was estimated at 26 L/min, a high value indicating elimination of DMT to be independent of blood flow. Higher concentrations of DMT were associated with a more intense experience with the concentration of DMT at the effect site required to produce half of the maximum response estimated at 95 nM. The maximum achievable intensity rating was 10 and the simulated median maximum rating was zero, 2, 4, 8, and 9 after doses of 1, 4, 7, 14, and 20 mg, respectively. The model can be useful in predicting suitable doses for clinical investigations of DMT based on the desired intensity of the subjective experience.

Despite the emergence of numerous carbon dots (CDs)-based sensors, most of them are fluorescent probes. To improve the reliability of the results, using ratiometric fluorescence/UV-vis absorption dual-signal probes is an effective method. Herein, nitrogen and chlorine co-doped carbon dots (N, Cl-CDs) with yellow-green fluorescence were prepared and used as a dual-function probe for ratiometric fluorescence/UV-vis. The detection range of the fluorescence method was 0.05–78 μ M, and the limit of detection (LOD) was 1.2 nM (3 σ /s). For the colorimetric method, the linear range was 0.05–186 μ M with LOD of 10.7 nM. Importantly, the N, Cl-CDs were successfully used to detect Quercetin (QT) in actual water samples. Besides, due to their good biocompatibility, the N, Cl-CDs were applied to in vivo biological imaging of oocysts and shown the potential for environmental survey and biological assay. N, Cl-doped carbon dots (N, Cl-CDs) with yellow-green fluorescence were prepared by hydrothermal method with riboflavin and neutral red as precursors. The prepared N, Cl-CDs showed double emission characteristics. Based on the interaction between N, Cl-CDs and quercetin (QT), the N, Cl-CDs can realize the colorimetric and ratiometric fluorometric dual-signal detection of QT. The N, Cl-CDs have been successfully applied to the determination of QT in water samples. Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is a fundamental half reaction for electrolytic water splitting, which has an important effect on the efficiency of hydrogen production. Pt is considered as the best HER electrocatalyst but hindered by its high cost and scarcity. Developing highly active electrocatalyst for HER is quite significant for advancing the development of hydrogen energy technologies. Here, well-dispersed and ultrafine Rh 2 P nanoparticles are successfully embedded in N, P co-doped graphene (NPG) by a facile and environmental-friendly pyrolysis method, endowing the electrocatalyst to achieve superior HER electrochemical performance in both acid and alkaline electrolyte. Rh 2 P@NPG-150 shows a splendid HER activity with small overpotentials of 28.6 and 13.6 mV for arriving 10 mA cm−2 in acid and alkaline electrolyte, respectively, which surpass the catalytic activity of the commercial Pt/C. The Rh 2 P@NPG-150 also demonstrates a robust HER stability and its V-t curve holds quite stable under electrolysis at 20 and 50 mA cm−2 for 25 h in both acid and alkaline electrolyte. As revealed by density functional theory calculations and XPS characterizations, owing to the incorporation of P into Rh, the d band center of Rh 2 P moves up, resulting in decrease of the number of electrons filled in the antibonding orbital, thus facilitating the adsorption of hydrogen atoms. Moreover, the charge density difference of Rh 2 P@NPG further reveals that there is strong interfacial electron interaction between Rh 2 P and NPG, which optimizes the hydrogen binding energy (close to zero) and promotes its charge transfer during HER process. Electrochemical energy storage devices play key roles in collecting energy from new energy power sources, transferring energy in place and time difference, and supplying energy for those energy consumers. In this work, in order to further improve the high energy density of Li-ion battery, a hard carbon anode is suggested by chosen epoxy as carbon source, accompanied by the simultaneous introduction of three curing agents (dicyandiamide, phytic acid (PA), and ferric acetylacetone). Furthermore, dicyandiamide supplies N-dopant, while PA gives P-dopant and also increases the yield of hard carbon from 23.6 to 40.9%. Based on the synergistic effect of N and P atoms, as well as catalytic effect of Fe, the optimized hard carbon of CNFP-60–700, as Li-ion battery anode, exhibits a reversible capacity of 779.2 mAh g−1 and an initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) of 58.8% at 0.1 A g−1 for the first cycle, and it still retains a capacity of 508.3 mAh g−1 after 160 cycles. This study aimed to investigate the effects of four types of slow-release fertilizers on the stoichiometric ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium and biomass of Fraxinus malacophylla seedlings and to screen for the optimal fertilization amount for seedling growth. Four fertilization rates (0, 1, 2, and 4 kg m³) were employed as treatment for one-year-old F. malacophylla seedlings, with no fertilization (CK) as the control. Biomass, growth, and N, P, and K contents of each organ were measured, and the accumulation of N, P, and K was calculated. Curve fitting was performed to analyze the relationship between N, P, and K accumulation in various organs and stoichiometric ratio and biomass. The results showed that the best nutrient accumulation and biomass of F. malacophylla seedlings were obtained under the dosage of 1 kg m-3 slow-release fertilizer, and significantly higher than those of the control group. The biomass of each organ and the accumulation of N, P, and K was in this order as follows: leaf>root>stem, and the accumulation of nutrients in each organ and single plant was in this order; N>K>P. A highly significant positive correlation (P<0.01) was observed between the accumulation of N, P, and K in various organs and biomass of F. malacophylla seedlings. N: P and K: P negatively correlated with biomass, whereas N: K significantly positively correlated with biomass (P<0.05). The N: P values of all organs of F. malacophylla seedlings were <14; plant growth was limited by elemental N, N: K<2.10, and K P>3.40; and plant growth was not influenced by K. The swelling properties of polyacrylonitrile gel prepared by the repeating cycle of freezing and thawing were examined, as its transient response toward the equilibrium swollen states varies with the variation of mixing ratio (r) of the immersion solvent which consisted of N, N–dimethylacetamide and benzene. Two experimental protocols were used; successive solvent exchanges were conducted in Protocol 1, and no solvent exchange but the varying of the volume of immersion solvent was conducted in Protocol 2. Also, the aging time was set between the end of the freezing and thawing cycle and the start of the swelling experiment. As a result, the equilibrium swelling ratio decreased with the increase in the aging time. Significant discrepancies for the transient responses were found for the immersion solvents between r ≤ 0.74 and r ≥ 0.78 both in Protocol 1 and 2, in which the elution of polyacrylonitrile molecules was related to the responses. A characteristic overshoot curve was observed in the swelling with r ≥ 0.78 in Protocol 2, which was also attributed to the polyacrylonitrile elution. The polymer solvent interaction parameter was calculated on the basis of the osmotic pressure equilibrium, which was associated with the interpretation of the transient response data. Hallucinogenic drugs are used because they have effects on the central nervous system. Their hallucinogenic effects probably occur via stimulation of serotonin receptors, namely, 5-HT2A-serotonin receptors in the brain. However, a close study reveals that they also act on the heart, possibly increasing the force of contraction and beating rate and may lead to arrhythmias. Here, we will review the inotropic and chronotropic actions of bufotenin, psilocin, psilocybin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), ergotamine, ergometrine, N,N-dimethyltryptamine, and 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine in the human heart. Luvic Greyzemic Phaeozems have been farmed for centuries in Western Ukraine. We investigate their stocks of major nutrients and stoichiometry under arable crops receiving conventional NPK fertilisation and an unfertilised control. Total carbon stocks increase only with parallel increases in total N, P, Ca and Mg. Likewise, total N increases along with parallel increases in total Ca and Mg, P and Ca, P and C. Under winter barley, application of the background fertilisation (N23P60K60) + N97 (urea) before sowing, with or without nitrapyrin as a nitrogen stabiliser, improved the status of C, N, Ca and Mg to P in the 0–20 cm soil layer. The best ratio of total C, N, Ca and Mg to P and the best C:N, C:P, N:P, and Ca:N ratios were achieved with the background fertilisation plus nitrapyrin and urea or ammonium nitrate. The scarcity of wettability, insufficient active sites, and low surface area of graphite felt (GF) have long been suppressing the performance of vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs). Herein, an ultra‐homogeneous multiple‐dimensioned defect, including nano‐scale etching and atomic‐scale N, O co‐doping, was used to modify GF by the molten salt system. NH4Cl and KClO3 were added simultaneously to the system to obtain porous N/O co‐doped electrode (GF/ON), where KClO3 was used to ultra‐homogeneously etch, and O‐functionalize electrode, and NH4Cl was used as N dopant, respectively. GF/ON presents better electrochemical catalysis for VO2+/VO2+ and V3+/V2+ reactions than only O‐functionalized electrodes (GF/O) and GF. The enhanced electrochemical properties are attributed to an increase in active sites, surface area, and wettability, as well as the synergistic effect of N and O, which is also supported by the density functional theory calculations. Further, the cell using GF/ON shows higher discharge capacity, energy efficiency, and stability for cycling performance than the pristine cell at 140 mA cm−2 for 200 cycles. Moreover, the energy efficiency of the modified cell is increased by 9.7% from 55.2% for the pristine cell at 260 mA cm−2. Such an ultra‐homogeneous etching with N and O co‐doping through "boiling" molten salt medium provides an effective and practical application potential way to prepare superior electrodes for VRFB. Nitrogen (N) fixation is a fundamental mechanism by which N enters streams. Yet, because of modern N saturation, it is difficult to study the importance of N-fixation to stream nutrient budgets. Here, we utilized relatively simple and pristine McMurdo Dry Valley streams to investigate the role of N-fixing Nostoc abundance, streamwater dissolved inorganic N (DIN) concentration, and distance from the source glacier in regulating the elemental and isotopic composition of three microbial mat types (black, orange, and green) at the landscape scale. We found Nostoc-based black mats were the most enriched in δ15N, and δ15N signatures of mats increased where Nostoc was abundant, but did not surpass the atmospheric standard (δ15N ≈ 0‰). Furthermore, green and orange mat δ15N signatures became more depleted with increasing DIN, indicating that mats utilize glacial meltwater-sourced N when available. The distance from the source glacier explained limited variability in mat δ15N across sites, indicating the influence of individual stream characteristics on N spiraling. To further explore longitudinal N spiraling processes generating observed δ15Ν patterns, we developed a simple steady-state mathematical model. Analysis of plausible scenarios with this model confirmed that streams both have the capacity to remove allochthonous DIN over the plausible range of inputs, and that internal N sources are required to account for δ15N signatures and observed DIN concentrations at stream outlets. Collectively, these data and modeling results demonstrate that N-fixation exerts substantial influence within and across these streams, and is presumably dependent upon interconnected organic matter reserves, mineralization rates, and geomorphology. Due to the rapid growth of the global economy, energy consumption has been steadily increasing, leading to increasing issues such as energy shortages and environmental concerns. Biomass energy, a critical renewable energy source, plays a vital role in advancing low-carbon energy development and resource sustainability. In this study, experiments were conducted to study the migration of C, H, and N elements of corn straw during the microwave heating process, and the effects of residence time, heating temperature, and microwave power were also investigated. The results showed that when the temperature rose, both the proportion of C and H elements fluctuated slightly. Specifically, when the temperature rose from 75 °C to 275 °C, there was a 1.02% increase in the proportion of the C element and a 0.25% decrease in the proportion of the H element. Residence time appeared to be a significant factor influencing the changes in C, H, and N elements. For a 40 min residence time, the proportion of the C element increased from 31.77% to 35.36%, while the proportion of the H element decreased from 4.50% to 3.83%. When there was an increase in the microwave power between 160 W and 200 W, higher temperatures were reached in the samples, leading to the carbonization process of corn straw being more complete. Consequently, the proportion of the C element rose with extended residence time, whereas the proportion of the H element decreased as the residence time increased. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The process of accelerated eutrophication forces the search for innovative, effective methods to restore the quality of surface waters. This study was conducted on shallow, urban Lake Mielenko (Maximum depth 1.9 m; Mean depth 1.3 m) in the context of implementing a new, sustainable method of lake restoration, i.e., phosphorus inactivation by sequential application of two types of coagulants. Approximately 9.9 tons of polyaluminium chloride (trade name PAX 18) were introduced into the profundal zone of Lake Mielenko, and 9.0 tons of iron chloride (trade name PIX 111) in the coastal area. The applications were divided into two spring and two autumn stages. Before restoration, the mean Pmin. concentration in Lake Mielenko water was 0.031 mg P/L, and TP was in the range of 0.091 to 0.346 mg P/L. After restoration, the average content of Pmin. was 0.007 mg P/L (a decrease of 80%), and the average value of TP was 0.096 mg P/L (a decrease of 72%). The obtained results indicate that phosphorus inactivation does not change nitrogen compounds' content. However, due to the application of coagulants, P content decreased, i.e., the main factor limiting photosynthesis, which resulted in a significant decrease in primary production in Lake Mielenko. Before restoration, the average content of N-NH4 was 0.100 mg N/L, N-NO3—0.145 mg N/L, Norg. 1.70 mg N/L, and TN—1.86 mg N/L. After restoration, the average content of N-NH4 was 0.096 mg N/L, N-NO3—0.123 mg N/L, Norg. 1.28 mg N/L, and TN—1.50 mg N/L. This also resulted in a reduction in the Norg. content, as well as a reduction in the amount of chlorophyll a (from 30.51 to 13.41 mg/m3), organic compounds (BOD5 from 8.9 to 4.6 mg O2/L), and an increase in water transparency to the bottom (up to 1.45 m on average). The results obtained in Lake Mielenko indicate that the innovative method of phosphorus inactivation, which involves the sequential application of two types of phosphorus-binding preparations, is an excellent solution that ensures higher ecological safety in the coastal areas of the reservoir and also allows for a significant reduction in restoration costs. This study investigates the impact of fertilizer application on nutrient utilization and economic traits of Camellia oleifera with the aim of enhancing its quality and yield while providing guidance for precise fertilization. We conducted three fertilization tests: no fertilization(CK), application of plant-derived bio-organic fertilizer(BOF), and application of an organic plant compound fertilizer(OCF). We monitored C. oleifera leaves throughout its growth cycle and collected mature fruit samples. Soil fertility improved in the order of OCF>BOF>CK, with increased levels of available potassium(AK), available phosphorus(AP), and hydrolyzed nitrogen(AN), among other nutrients. The nutrient requirements of C. oleifera varied throughout its growth stages. For instance, N, K, Ca, Mg and Fe were in higher demand during the extraction stage, while N, P, and B were required more during fruit expansion and lipid synthesis, Cu, Zn, and B needs were higher during the flowering stage. The OCF treatment showed higher rates of N, P, K, Cu, Fe, and Zn absorption and utilization from fertilizers. BOF showed higher rates of N, P, K contributing to seed nutrient, while Ca, Mn, Fe and Zn showed the OCF treatment higher. Leaf nutrient content correlated significantly with N, P, K, Ca, Mg, and Mn levels in the soil(P<0.05), but not with trace elements such as Cu, Fe, Zn, B, and Se. Both BOF and OCF treatments increased fruit diameter, weight, and yield. BOF showed a 24.57% and 70.36% increase in diameter and weight, while OCF showed a 25.77% and 51.22% increase. The yield increased by 83.93% with BOF and 166.07% with OCF. To optimize results, we recommend adding N, K, Ca, and Mg during the germination period, N, P and B during the oil synthesis period, and spraying Cu, Zn, and B during full bloom. The rational construction of Ti3C2Tx MXene‐based composites has been deemed as a popular way to improve their electrochemical energy storage performances owing to the unique two‐dimensional (2D) structure, excellent conductivity, and good flexibility. However, it remains a major challenge to assemble mesoporous carbon onto Ti3C2Tx with fewer oxygen‐containing groups by using surfactants with short hydrophilic segments. In the work, we propose a molecular engineering assembly strategy for the growth of N,P co‐doped mesoporous carbon onto Ti3C2Tx nanosheets (NPMC/Ti3C2Tx) under the assistance of phytic acid by using melamine‐formaldehyde resin and pluronic P123 (PEO20PPO70PEO20) as the carbon/nitrogen source and soft template, respectively. The detailed investigations reveal that phytic acid with abundant hydroxyl groups can effectively enhance the hydrogen bond interactions among P123, carbon precursor, and Ti3C2Tx nanosheets, thus ensuring the efficient assembly of mesoporous carbon onto Ti3C2Tx. The obtained NPMC/Ti3C2Tx composite demonstrates a set of merits, including cylindrical mesopore, N,P co‐doping, and a good combination of mesoporous carbon and Ti3C2Tx nanosheets. As a result, it exhibits an improved lithium‐ion storage performance, delivering a high reversible capacity of 556.3 mA h g−1 after 100 cycles at 0.1 A g−1. We fabricated a novel N,S-co-doped carbon/Co1-xS nanocomposite (NSC/Co1-xS) using a facile sol-gel approach, which featured a multiporous structure, abundant S vacancies and Co-S nanoparticles filling the carbon-layer pores. When the Co1-xS nanoparticles were anchored onto the surface of N,S-co-doped carbon, a synergistic catalysis action occurred. The NSC/Co1-xS nanocomposites possessed both peroxidase-like and oxidase-mimetic dual-enzyme activities, in which the oxidase-mimetic activity dominated. By scavenger capture tests, the nanozyme was demonstrated to catalyze H2O2 to produce h+, •OH and •O2-, among which the strongest and weakest signals were h+ and •OH, respectively. The multi-valence states of Co atoms in the NSC/Co1-xS structure facilitated electronic transfer that enhanced redox reactions, thereby improving the resultant color reaction. Based on the NSC/Co1-xS's enzyme-mimetic catalytic reaction, a visual colorimetric assay and Android "Thing Identify" application (app), installed on a smartphone, offered detection limits of 1.93 and 2.51 mg/dl, respectively, in human serum samples. The selectivity/interference experiments, using fortified macromolecules and metal ions, demonstrated that this sensor had high selectivity and low interference potential for cholesterol analysis. Compared to standard assay kits and previously reported visual detection, the Android smartphone-based assays provided higher accuracy (recoveries up to 93.6-104.1%), feasibility for trace-level detection, and more convenient on-site application for cholesterol assay due to the superior enzymatic activity of NSC/Co1-xS. These compelling performance metrics lead us to posit that the NSC/Co1-xS-based nanozymic sensor offers a promising methodology for several practical applications, such as point-of-care diagnosis and workplace health evaluations.

The benefits of dominance may not come without costs, particularly for males. For example, the "immunocompetence handicap hypothesis" states that males with enhanced mating success allocate resources to enhance reproductive output at a cost to their current health, whereas the "resource quality hypothesis" predicts that high-ranking males may benefit from increased reproduction and good health. Whereas the predictions from each have been well tested in captive animals and in a variety of highly social primates, fewer studies have been carried out in free-living, facultatively social animals. Using adult male yellow-bellied marmots (Marmota flaviventer), we evaluated predictions of these hypotheses by examining the relationship between social rank and 2 health indicators-fecal glucocorticoid metabolite (FCM) levels, and neutrophil/lymphocyte (N/L) ratios-after accounting for variation explained by age, body mass, and seasonality. We found that higher-ranking males tended to have a lower N/L ratio (reflecting good health) than lower-ranking individuals, whereas FCM levels were not significantly related to rank. In addition, heavier male marmots had lower N/L ratios, whereas body mass was not associated with FCM levels. We also found that older adult males had lower FCM levels (reflecting less physiological stress) but higher N/L ratios than younger adults. Finally, we found that FCM levels decreased as the active season progressed and FCM levels were associated with the time of the day. Overall, our results suggest that socially-dominant male marmots enjoyed better, not worse health in terms of lower N/L ratios.

IntroductionViral infections have been implicated in the initiation of the autoimmune diseases. Recent reports suggest that a proportion of patients with COVID-19 develop severe disease with multiple organ injuries. We evaluated the relationship between COVID-19 severity, prevalence and persistence of antinuclear and other systemic and organ specific autoantibodies as well as SARS-CoV-2 infection specific anti-nucleocapsid (N) IgG antibodies and protective neutralizing antibody (Nab) levels.MethodsSamples from 119 COVID-19 patients categorized based on their level of care and 284 healthy subjects were tested for the presence and persistence of antinuclear and other systemic and organ specific autoantibodies as well as SARS-CoV-2 and neutralizing antibody levels.ResultsThe data shows significantly increased levels of anti RNP-A, anti-nucleocapsid and neutralizing antibody among patients receiving ICU care compared to non-ICU care. Furthermore, subjects receiving ICU care demonstrated significantly higher nucleocapsid IgG levels among the RNP-A positive cohort compared to RNP-A negative cohort. Notably, the expression of anti RNP-A antibodies is transient that reverts to non-reactive status between 20 and 60 days post symptom onset.ConclusionsCOVID-19 patients in ICU care exhibit significantly higher levels of transient RNP-A autoantibodies, anti-nucleocapsid, and SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies compared to patients in non-ICU care.

Understanding the phenomenology and content of the inhaled N, N, dimethyltryptamine (N, N-DMT) experience is critical to facilitate and support ongoing research and therapeutic models targeting mental health conditions and central nervous system pathology. A qualitative analysis was conducted of all N, N-DMT experiences posted to the r/DMT Reddit community over a 10-year period from 2009 to 2018. A total of 3778 experiences from 3305 posts were included in this study. A median dose of N, N-DMT of 40.0 mg [interquartile range (IQR), 27.5 to 50.0] and a median experience duration of 10 min (IQR, 5.0 to 15.0) were identified. The most common somatic effects were somaesthesias (n = 1415, 37.5%) and an auditory ringing (n = 583, 15.4%). Visualizations predominantly consisted of fractals, shapes, patterns (n = 1231, 32.6%) and vivid colours (n = 953, 25.2%). Entity encounters were reported in 45.5% (n = 1719) of the experiences and involved predominantly a feminine phenotype (n = 416, 24.2%); deities (n = 293, 17.0%); aliens (n = 281, 16.3%); creature-based entities (n = 158, 9.2%, including reptilian and insectoid beings); mythological beings (n = 144, 8.4%, including machine elves); and jesters (n = 112, 6.5%). Entity interactions were predominantly positive (n = 600, 34.9% of encounters) involving benevolent, comforting, protecting, or outwardly caring interactions. A companion-type, pedagogical, or guide-type interaction was identified 32.4% of encounters (n = 557). Common typology, architecture, and structural features of the "DMT world" included descriptions of alternate or higher dimensions (n = 952, 25.2%); rooms [n = 582, 15.4%, including the "waiting room" (n = 105, 2.8%)], and a tunnel (n = 390, 10.3%). Features of mystical and ego-dissolution experiences were common. Additional rewarding aspects were identified, including a sense of familiarity and the acceptance/removal of the fear of death. Challenging and difficult responses were less frequent but also documented. Statements of profundity were identified in 232 experiences (6.1%), including pronouncing the experience or an aspect of the experience as the most "beautiful" or feeling the most "beautiful" of their life (n = 47, 1.2%). This study identified common phenomenological themes and content of naturalistic inhaled N, N-DMT experiences. Major thematic domains included (1) physical and somatic experiences; (2) visualizations and imagery; (3) entity encounters including entity phenotype, descriptors, attributes, disposition, and characteristics of the interaction; (4) typology, architectural features, structural characteristics, and scenery of the "DMT world"; (5) alerations in consciousness (including mystical experiences, out-of-body experiences, and ego-dissolution); (6) emotional responses (including positive, rewarding, difficult, and challenging); and (7) statements of profundity.

Cassava mosaic disease (CMD), caused by cassava mosaic geminiviruses (CMGs), is a major constraint to the cassava crop in Africa and southeastern Asia. Here, we investigated the ability of acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM), a functional analog of salicylic acid (SA), to trigger systemic acquired resistance (SAR) against two CMGs, namely African cassava mosaic virus (ACMV) and East African cassava mosaic Cameroon virus (EACMCV) in Nicotiana benthamiana. ASM treatment delayed the time to first viral symptoms appearance, reduced virus infection rate, and attenuated symptoms. Furthermore, ASM caused an enhanced recovery from symptoms of both viruses and inhibited plant death observed in N. benthamiana plants infected by EACMCV. This study further showed that ASM induced resistance to the whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius), the vector of CMGs, in cassava. Notably, we observed that ASM treatment affected adult whitefly feeding preference and oviposition in cassava under both choice and no-choice conditions. A significant reduction in whitefly adult, egg, and nymph populations was observed irrespective of ASM treatment. The results of this study show that ASM has the potential to control both CMGs and their whitefly vector which is an important first step toward managing whitefly and cassava viruses.

Assessing the scope and severity of threats is necessary for evaluating impacts on populations to inform conservation planning. Quantitative threat assessment often requires monitoring programs that provide reliable data over relevant spatial and temporal scales, yet such programs can be difficult to justify until there is an apparent stressor. Leveraging efforts of wildlife management agencies to record winter counts of hibernating bats, we collated data for 5 species from over 200 sites across 27 U.S. states and 2 Canadian provinces from 1995 to 2018 to determine the impact of white-nose syndrome (WNS), a deadly disease of hibernating bats. We estimated declines of winter counts of bat colonies at sites where the invasive fungus that causes WNS (Pseudogymnoascus destructans) had been detected to assess the threat impact of WNS. Three species undergoing species status assessment by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Myotis septentrionalis, Myotis lucifugus, and Perimyotis subflavus) declined by more than 90%, which warrants classifying the severity of the WNS threat as extreme based on criteria used by NatureServe. The scope of the WNS threat as defined by NatureServe criteria was large (36% of Myotis lucifugus range) to pervasive (79% of Myotis septentrionalis range) for these species. Declines for 2 other species (Myotis sodalis and Eptesicus fuscus) were less severe but still qualified as moderate to serious based on NatureServe criteria. Data-sharing across jurisdictions provided a comprehensive evaluation of scope and severity of the threat of WNS and indicated regional differences that can inform response efforts at international, national, and state or provincial jurisdictions. We assessed the threat impact of an emerging infectious disease by uniting monitoring efforts across jurisdictional boundaries and demonstrated the importance of coordinated monitoring programs, such as the North American Bat Monitoring Program (NABat), for data-driven conservation assessments and planning.

N-((2-chloropyridin-3-yl)carbamothioyl)thiophene-2-carboxamide (HL1), N-((6-methylpyridin-2-yl)carbamothioyl)thiophene-2-carboxamide (HL2), N-(allylcarbamothioyl)thiophene-2-carboxamide (HL3), 2-chloro-N-(methyl(1-phenylethyl)carbamothioyl)benzamide (HL4) and 2-chloro-N-(bis((R)-1-phenylethyl)carbamothioyl)benzamide (HL5) were synthesized and characterized via FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and HR-MS techniques and HL3 was characterized via a single crystal X-ray diffraction experiment. The antituberculosis activity of the synthesized thiourea derivatives was tested against the H37RV (ATCC27294), ATCC35822 (INH resistant), ATCC35838 (RIF resistant), ATCC35820 (STM resistant) and ATCC35837 (EMB resistant) standard bacteria strains. The thiourea derivatives were tested on two MDR and one primary drug-sensitive isolates with the microplate nitrate reductase test method. The results indicated that HL2 and HL3 had tuberculosis activity on some of the isolates. It was observed that HL4 was the most effective among all the thiourea derivatives. The interaction mechanism of the synthesized compounds on 2X23, a tuberculosis protein, was investigated via molecular docking method. The interaction was observed to occur over S and Cl atoms in all the compounds. The compounds containing the methyl group were observed to interact via this group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The finite element method (FEM) using Ansys program (APDL) was used in this study to evaluate the idea of tuned vibration absorbers applied to a beam construction for the undamped system. The ideal location for the Dynamic Vibration Absorbers (DVAs) and their numbers to be installed on the fixed-fixed beam in order to lessen beam vibration was also investigated. The DVA was coupled to the fixed-fixed beam vibration node for three vibration modes. The natural frequency and frequency response of the beam were calculated in this study using modal and harmonic analysis, respectively. The vibrational characteristics of the F-F beam with and without DVAs were presented. The simulation results demonstrated that the vibration amplitude decreases in the presence of the DVAs and its reduction depends on the locations of the DVAs and its number. In addition, the attached DVAs affect the structural beam vibration. Depending on the modes of vibration, the vibrational peak is the optimal place to attach DVA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Enhanced catalysis for organic transformation is essential for the synthesis of high-value compounds. Atomic metal species recently emerged as highly effective catalysts for organic reactions with high activity and metal utilization. However, developing efficient atomic catalysts is always an attractive and challenging topic in the modern chemical industry. In this work, we report the preparation and activity enhancement of nitrogen- and sulfur-codoped holey graphene (NSHG) with the anchoring of atomic metal Pd. When employed as the catalyst for nitroarenes reduction reactions, the resultant Pd/NSHG composite exhibits remarkably high catalytic activity due to the co-existence of dual-active components (i.e., catalytically active NSHG support and homogeneous dispersion of atomic metal Pd). In the catalytic 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) reduction reaction, the efficiency (turnover frequency) is 3.99 × 10−2 mmol 4-NP/(mg cat.·min), which is better than that of metal-free nitrogen-doped holey graphene (NHG) (2.3 × 10−3 mmol 4-NP/(mg cat.·min)) and NSHG carbocatalyst (3.8 × 10−3 mmol 4-NP/(mg cat.·min)), the conventional Pd/C and other reported metal-based catalysts. This work provides a rational design strategy for the atomic metal catalysts loaded on active doped graphene support. The resultant Pd/NSHG dual-active component catalyst (DACC) is also anticipated to bring great application potentials for a broad range of organic fields, such as organic synthesis, environment treatment, energy storage and conversion. The cultivar selection and nitrogen (N) fertilization are key management factors to improve potato yield. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the ecophysiological determinants of biomass and tuber yield in potato genotypes in response to N availability under field conditions. Experiments 1 and 2 were carried out in a volcanic soil of southern Chile during the 2021–2022 season. Treatments were applied in the factorial combination of (i) fifteen genotypes of potatoes and (ii) three N fertilization rates (0, 200 and 400 kg N ha−1, 0 N, 200 N and 400 N, respectively). A wide range in total dry matter biomass (5.9–22.1 Mg DM ha−1) and tuber yield (5.1–18.3 Mg DM ha−1) was observed across the experiments. In both experiments, the total biomass and tuber yield were affected by the N rate (p < 0.05) and genotype (p < 0.01), but not by their interaction (p > 0.05). Tuber dry matter yield was strongly related (R2 = 0.94, p < 0.01) to total biomass and weakly related to the harvest index (HI). In both experiments, the total biomass was explained by the radiation use efficiency (RUE) (R2 = 0.69–0.75, p < 0.01). The principal components analysis showed that tuber yield, biomass and RUE were related. The Finlay and Wilkinson analysis revealed that different cultivars varied significantly (p < 0.001) in their sensitivity to N availability. Across environments (3 N rates × 2 experiments), the most responsive cultivars to N availability were Pukara, Rodeo, Asterix and Patagonia. Understanding the ecological stoichiometry in the growth of different stand ages of Eucalyptus plantations is essential to evaluate the effects of management practices on biogeochemical cycling in plantation forest ecosystems. The study examined the relationship between leaf, litter, and soil stoichiometry on 3-, 6-, 9- and 12-year-old Eucalyptus grandis x urophylla plantations in subtropical China. Results showed that (1) With increased stand age, the concentrations of TN (total nitrogen) and TP (total phosphorus) in leaf and litter increased gradually. Leaf TC (total carbon) concentration decreased gradually, litter TC concentration initially increased and then decreased, and the concentrations of TC and TN in soil were opposite. Soil TC and TN concentrations decreased with increasing soil depth. (2) The ratios of C:N, C:P, N:P were litter > leaf > soil. With increasing stand age, C:N and C:P of leaf and litter decreased gradually, while the ratios of C:N, C:P, N:P of soil fluctuated greatly. (3) There were significant negative correlations between the C, N of soil and litter P and significant positive correlation was between the leaf C:N and litter C:P. The main limiting element was P. The interaction of the β -coronavirus severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) nucleocapsid (N) protein with genomic RNA is initiated by specific RNA regions and subsequently induces the formation of a continuous polymer with characteristic structural units for viral formation. We hypothesized that oligomeric RNAs, whose sequences are absent in the 29.9-kb genome sequence of SARS-CoV-2, might affect RNA–N protein interactions. We identified two such hexameric RNAs, In-1 (CCGGCG) and G6 (GGGGGG), and investigated their effects on the small filamentous/droplet-like structures (< a few μm) of N protein–genomic RNA formed by liquid–liquid phase separation. The small N protein structures were sequence-specifically enhanced by In-1, whereas G6 caused them to coalesce into large droplets. Moreover, we found that a guanosine 12-mer (G12, GGGGGGGGGGGG) expelled preexisting genomic RNA from the small N protein structures. The presence of G12 with the genomic RNA suppressed the formation of the small N protein structures, and alternatively apparently altered phase separation to induce the formation of large droplets with unclear phase boundaries. We showed that the N-terminal RNA-binding domain is required for the stability of the small N protein structures. Our results suggest that G12 may be a strong inhibitor of the RNA–N protein interaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
