All included patients underwent complete ophthalmological evaluation under anesthesia with fundus photography. Diagnosis and classification of retinoblastoma was made according to the International Classification of Intraocular Retinoblastoma (ICRB). The patients were further divided into two groups: Group I for primary IAC and Group II for secondary IAC. Tumor recurrence or relapses, systemic metastasis and deaths were documented. Main efficacy outcome included ocular salvage and recurrence-free survival rates estimated using the Kaplan–Meier method.Results: Twenty-eight eyes (19 eyes included in Group I and 9 eyes included in Group II) were eligible and a total of 130 IAC procedures were performed, with a median number of sessions of 4 (range 1– 8) for each treated eye, during a median follow-up of 21 months (range 4– 64). Of the included eyes, 22 (78.6%) were preserved. An overall survival of 100% was achieved. Considering the preserved eyes, the overall median decimal visual acuity achieved at the last visit was 0.15 (range 0.02– 0.8). Three patients had permanent adverse events related to IAC (cataract, vitreous hemorrhage and choroidal ischemia). Considering the survival analysis of recurrence, the mean survival without recurrence was 84.2% for Group I and 66.7% for Group II, and the mean survival without enucleation was 78.6% (no events in Group II).Conclusion: IAC has been shown to be an effective and safe treatment for children with intraocular retinoblastoma. Abstract

This study aimed to summarize the evidence of the impact of school-based nutrition education programs that incorporate technology on the acquisition of nutrition-related knowledge and behavior change of adolescents. Literature searches were conducted using Cochrane Library, Pubmed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Web of Science databases. Studies published between 2000 and 2018, with adolescents aged from 12 to 18 years, fully available in English, which involved technology-based school interventions, and reported nutrition-related outcomes, were included. Thirteen studies met all the inclusion criteria. Overall, all studies presented positive effects, though these results did not persist. It is feasible to use technology-based approaches in this type of intervention programs, but it is necessary to improve the interventions so that long-lasting results are achieved.

Abstract

Hunting is a critical issue in wild felid conservation, contributing to the decline of these species worldwide. Here, we present 18 years of a community‐based monitoring program, quantifying and characterizing wild felid hunting in two sustainable development reserves in Central Amazonia. We investigated how felid hunting was affected by the flood pulse and whether local human population size, habitat type, and total hunting events influenced felid hunting. We recorded 71 adult felids being killed, most of them in opportunistic events (88.7%), usually during hunting expeditions aimed at other game species. Four felid species were recorded in the hunts (Panthera onca, Leopardus pardalis, Puma concolor, and Leopardus wiedii) with jaguars accounting for almost half of all hunting events (N = 35). We found that more felid hunting events occurred during the flooded season, in more populated communities, and in várzea habitats. Most felids were hunted opportunistically, demonstrating the complexity of human‐felid interactions. Stories of attacks on humans are widespread in the study area, which may strengthen an instinctive fear of felids, driving their persecution. The increase of hunting events during the flooded season seems to be related to a higher probability of encounters between humans and wild felids. High waters make fishing difficult, therefore, locals hunt more, entering deep into the forest through flooded habitats. Since jaguars have an arboreal lifestyle during the flooded season in várzea forests, they are easily spotted by locals and have less of a chance to escape since they are slower and more exposed when swimming, which increases the probability of being killed. It is generally acknowledged that involving local stakeholders in conservation projects is essential for their success. In our case, collaboration among researchers and community members was fundamental to access hunting information. Abstract

The incorporation of interface passivation structures in ultrathin Cu(In,Ga)Se2 based solar cells is shown. The fabrication used an industry scalable lithography technique—nanoimprint lithography (NIL)—for a 15 × 15 cm2 dielectric layer patterning. Devices with a NIL nanopatterned dielectric layer are benchmarked against electron-beam lithography (EBL) patterning, using rigid substrates. The NIL patterned device shows similar performance to the EBL patterned device.The impact of the lithographic processes in the rigid solar cells' performance were evaluated via X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and through a Solar Cell Capacitance Simulator. The device on stainless-steel showed a slightly lower performance than the rigid approach, due to additional challenges of processing steel substrates, even though scanning transmission electron microscopy did not show clear evidence of impurity diffusion. Notwithstanding, time-resolved photoluminescence results strongly suggested elemental diffusion from the flexible substrate. Nevertheless, bending tests on the stainless-steel device demonstrated the mechanical stability of the CIGS-based device. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The detection and analysis of oscillations in binary star systems is critical in understanding stellar structure and evolution. This is partly because such systems have the same initial chemical composition and age. Solar-like oscillations have been detected by Kepler in both components of the asteroseismic binary HD 176465. We present an independent modelling of each star in this binary system. Stellar models generated using MESA (Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics) were fitted to both the observed individual frequencies and complementary spectroscopic parameters. The individual theoretical oscillation frequencies for the corresponding stellar models were obtained using GYRE as the pulsation code. A Bayesian approach was applied to find the probability distribution functions of the stellar parameters using AIMS (Asteroseismic Inference on a Massive Scale) as the optimisation code. The ages of HD 176465 A and HD 176465 B were found to be 2.81 ± 0.48 Gyr and 2.52 ± 0.80 Gyr, respectively. These results are in agreement when compared to previous studies carried out using other asteroseismic modelling techniques and gyrochronology.

Abstract

We present a new spectroscopic calibration for a fast estimate of Teff and [Fe/H] for FGK dwarfs and GK giant stars. We used spectra from a joint sample of 708 stars, composed by 451 FGK dwarfs and 257 GK-giant stars with homogeneously determined spectroscopic stellar parameters. We have derived 322 EW line-ratios and 100 FeI lines that can be used to compute Teff and [Fe/H], respectively. We show that these calibrations are effective for FGK dwarfs and GK-giant stars in the following ranges: 4500 K < Teff < 6500 K, 2.5 < log g < 4.9 dex, and –0.8 < [Fe/H] < 0:5 dex. The new calibration has a standard deviation of 74 K for Teff and 0.07 dex for [Fe/H]. We use four independent samples of stars to test and verify the new calibration, a sample of giant stars, a sample composed of Gaia FGK benchmark stars, a sample of GK-giant stars from the DR1 of the Gaia-ESO survey, and a sample of FGK-dwarf stars. We present a new computer code, GeTCal, for automatically producing new calibration files based on any new sample of stars.
