In this nonsystematic review of the literature, we explored the changing landscape of detection and treatment of low- and intermediate-risk prostate cancer (PCa). Through emphasizing improved cancer assessment with histology classification and genomics, we investigated key developments in PCa detection and risk stratification. The pivotal role of prostate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the novel diagnostic pathway is examined, alongside the benefits and drawbacks of MRI-targeted biopsies for detection and tumor characterization. We also delved into treatment options, particularly active surveillance for intermediate-risk PCa. Outcomes are compared between intermediate- and low-risk patients, offering insights into tailored management. Surgical techniques, including Retzius-sparing surgery, precision prostatectomy, and partial prostatectomy for anterior cancer, are appraised. Each technique has the potential to enhance outcomes and minimize complications. Advancements in technology and radiobiology, including computed tomography (CT)/MRI imaging and positron emission tomography (PET) fusion, allow for precise dose adjustment and daily target monitoring with imaging-guided radiotherapy, opening new ways of tailoring patients' treatments. Finally, experimental therapeutic approaches such as focal therapy open new treatment frontiers, although they create new needs in tumor identification and tracking during and after the procedure. Simple Summary: Auto contouring driven by artificial intelligence can improve the workflow of radiotherapy by accelerating the contouring process. However, quality assurance of artificial intelligence-based tools is necessary for ensuring safety and efficacy in a clinical practice. In this study investigated the geometric accuracy of structural contours created by a commercial software for autocontouring based on artificial intelligence using well established metrics. In particular, the impact on the radiotherapy treatment plan quality from the adoption of artificial intelligence generated contours was investigated. Our results show that the combination of automatically generated contours and careful review by a clinical radiation oncologist results in time saving without affecting the quality of treatment plan. In conclusion, after quality checks that involve both geometric accuracy as well as dosimetric impact, contouring based on AI can be safely adopted in clinical practice. Purpose: When autocontouring based on artificial intelligence (AI) is used in the radiotherapy (RT) workflow, the contours are reviewed and eventually adjusted by a radiation oncologist before an RT treatment plan is generated, with the purpose of improving dosimetry and reducing both interobserver variability and time for contouring. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of application of a commercial AI-based autocontouring for RT, assessing both geometric accuracies and the influence on optimized dose from automatically generated contours after review by human operator. Materials and Methods: A commercial autocontouring system was applied to a retrospective database of 40 patients, of which 20 were treated with radiotherapy for prostate cancer (PCa) and 20 for head and neck cancer (HNC). Contours resulting from AI were compared against AI contours reviewed by human operator and human-only contours using Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), Hausdorff distance (HD), and relative volume difference (RVD). Dosimetric indices such as Dmean, D0.03cc, and normalized plan quality metrics were used to compare dose distributions from RT plans generated from structure sets contoured by humans assisted by AI against plans from manual contours. The reduction in contouring time obtained by using automated tools was also assessed. A Wilcoxon rank sum test was computed to assess the significance of differences. Interobserver variability of the comparison of manual vs. AI-assisted contours was also assessed among two radiation oncologists for PCa. Results: For PCa, AI-assisted segmentation showed good agreement with expert radiation oncologist structures with average DSC among patients ≥ 0.7 for all structures, and minimal radiation oncology adjustment of structures (DSC of adjusted versus AI structures ≥ 0.91). For HNC, results of comparison between manual and AI contouring varied considerably e.g., 0.77 for oral cavity and 0.11–0.13 for brachial plexus, but again, adjustment was generally minimal (DSC of adjusted against AI contours 0.97 for oral cavity, 0.92–0.93 for brachial plexus). The difference in dose for the target and organs at risk were not statistically significant between human and AI-assisted, with the only exceptions of D0.03cc to the anal canal and Dmean to the brachial plexus. The observed average differences in plan quality for PCa and HNC cases were 8% and 6.7%, respectively. The dose parameter changes due to interobserver variability in PCa were small, with the exception of the anal canal, where large dose variations were observed. The reduction in time required for contouring was 72% for PCa and 84% for HNC. Conclusions: When an autocontouring system is used in combination with human review, the time of the RT workflow is significantly reduced without affecting dose distribution and plan quality. Cellular and humoral immunity are both required for SARS-CoV-2 infection recovery and vaccine efficacy. The factors affecting mRNA vaccination-induced immune responses, in healthy and fragile subjects, are still under investigation. Thus, we monitored the vaccine-induced cellular and humoral immunity in healthy subjects and cancer patients after vaccination to define whether a different antibody titer reflected similar rates of cellular immune responses and if cancer has an impact on vaccination efficacy. We found that higher titers of antibodies were associated with a higher probability of positive cellular immunity and that this greater immune response was correlated with an increased number of vaccination side effects. Moreover, active T-cell immunity after vaccination was associated with reduced antibody decay. The vaccine-induced cellular immunity appeared more likely in healthy subjects rather than in cancer patients. Lastly, after boosting, we observed a cellular immune conversion in 20% of subjects, and a strong correlation between pre- and post-boosting IFN-γ levels, while antibody levels did not display a similar association. Finally, our data suggested that integrating humoral and cellular immune responses could allow the identification of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine responders and that T-cell responses seem more stable over time compared to antibodies, especially in cancer patients. Hypofractionation in salvage radiotherapy (HSRT) for biochemical recurrence of prostatic cancer after prostatectomy is a debated issue and at present, it should be considered purely investigational because of the lack of evidence supporting its use. In this study, we report the outcomes of patients presenting with biochemical recurrence after radical prostatectomy who received HSRT. The additional aim of this study is to compare two moderately HSRT schedules. Patients treated to prostate bed with daily Image Guided-VMAT and a total dose of 65 Gy/26 fractions (Group A) or 66 Gy/30 fractions (Group B) were included in the study. Inclusion criteria were: pN0/pNx, pre-HSRT PSA =0.2 ng/ml and =1 ng/ml, no evidence of pelvic/extrapelvic disease at restaging, no pelvic irradiation or dose boost on macroscopic local recurrence, no neoadjuvant/concomitant Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT), follow-up =36 months, and available pre/post HSRT data. Genitourinary (GU) and gastrointestinal (GI) toxicities, early and late, were assessed using CTCAE Vers. 5.0. One hundred patients were retrospectively identified to 50 in each group. Median follow-up was 59 months. All patients completed the prescribed HSRT. 5-year biochemical failure-free survival, local control, distant relapse-free survival, and ADT- free survival were 52.1%, 85.9%, 63.7%, and 73.2%, respectively. No significant differences in these outcomes were found between the two groups. On multivariate analysis, a hypofractionation schedule was not associated with any outcome, but ISUP score = 4 and pre-HSRT PSA were associated with worse biochemical failure-free survival while only ISUP score = 4 was associated with worse distant relapse-free survival. No Grade 3 GU/GI acute event was reported; 6 (6%) and 2 (2%) patients experienced late Grade = 2 GU and GI events, respectively. No difference was found between the two groups neither in acute nor in late GU/GI toxicities. Our findings demonstrate that HSRT is feasible, effective, and safe. Our analysis did not show any significant difference between the two hypofractionated schedules. The aim of this study is to predict local failure after partial prostate re-irradiation for the treatment of isolated locally recurrent prostate cancer by using a machine learning classifier based on radiomic features from pre-treatment computed tomography (CT), positron-emission tomography (PET) and biological effective dose distribution (BED) of the radiotherapy plan. The analysis was conducted on a monocentric dataset of 43 patients with evidence of isolated intraprostatic recurrence of prostate cancer after primary external beam radiotherapy. All patients received partial prostate re-irradiation delivered by volumetric modulated arc therapy. The gross tumor volume (GTV) of each patient was manually contoured from planning CT, choline-PET and dose maps. An ensemble machine learning pipeline including unbalanced data correction and feature selection was trained using the radiomic and dosiomic features as input for predicting occurrence of local failure. The model performance was assessed using sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and area under receiver operating characteristic curves of the score function in 10-fold cross validation repeated 100 times. Local failure was observed in 13 patients (30%), with a median time to recurrence of 36.7 months (range = 6.1–102.4 months). A four variables ensemble machine learning model resulted in accuracy of 0.62 and AUC 0.65. The rate of complete remission (CR) with the anti-PD1 immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) nivolumab (N) and pembrolizumab (P) in patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) is low (20-30%), and the majority of patients eventually relapse. One strategy to improve their outcome is to combine ICI with radiotherapy (ICI-RT), taking advantage of a supposed synergistic effect. We retrospectively collected data of 12 adult patients with R/R cHL treated with ICI-RT delivered during or within 8 weeks from the start or after the end of ICI. Median age at ICI-RT was 37 years, 50% had previously received an autologous stem cell transplantation (SCT) and 92% brentuximab vedotin. RT was given concurrently, before or after ICI in 4, 1 and 7 patients. Median RT dose was 30Gy, for a median duration of 22 days. Median number of ICI administrations was 15. Overall response and CR rate were 100% and 58%. Nine patients received subsequent SCT consolidation (7 allogeneic and 2 autologous). After a median follow-up of 18 months, 92% of patients were in CR. Many different therapeutic options are available for locally recurrent prostate cancer (PCa). However, standard treatment has not yet been established. We conducted a partial prostate re-irradiation (PPR) program for the treatment of isolated and limited-size intraprostatic recurrences, in patients who previously underwent external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) as primary treatment for prostatic cancer (PCa). The analysis of this experience in terms of feasibility, toxicity, and efficacy is reported. The inclusion criteria of this retrospective analysis were: previous definitive EBRT, evidence of biochemical recurrence, radiological detection of isolated local relapse, and PPR as local salvage therapy. Gastrointestinal (GI) and genitourinary (GU) toxicities were registered according to the RTOG/EORTC criteria. Between July 2012 and May 2019, 44 patients were treated with PPR. All patients completed the planned treatment. The median follow-up was 25.4 months. Tumor progression was observed in 18 patients (40.9%). Two-year local control, biochemical failure-, and clinical relapse-free survival rates were 90.1%, 58.3%, and 67.9%, respectively. The occurrence of biochemical failure after PPR is lower for patients with the time interval between the primary EBRT and first biochemical failure >4 years; local control results strongly associated with a biologically effective dose (BED) at first EBRT >177 Gy. No acute grade 3 or greater toxic events were observed. Two late grade 3 GU toxicities were reported. Although retrospective in design, our study indicates that PPR appears as a feasible, well-tolerated, and effective salvage treatment for isolated local PCa recurrence. Background: Preoperative radiotherapy (RT) in combination with fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy (CT) is the standard of care in patients with locally advanced, T3-T4 N0-2, rectal cancer (LARC). Given the correlation between RT dose-tumor response and the prognostic role of the tumor regression grade (TRG), treatment intensification represents an area of active investigation. The aim of the study was to analyze the role of RT dose-intensification in the preoperative treatment of LARC in terms of feasibility, efficacy and toxicity.Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients with LARC treated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) at five Italian radiation oncology centers. Concurrent Capecitabine was administered. Treatment response was evaluated in terms of disease down-staging and TRG. Acute toxicity was evaluated according to the CTC-AE 4.0 scale.Results: A total of 76 patients were identified for this analysis. A dose of 45 Gy was prescribed to the entire mesorectum and pelvic lymph nodes with a median SIB dose of 54 Gy (range 52.5-57.5) to the tumor and corresponding mesorectum. Overall, 74/76 (97.4%) patients completed the planned RT, whereas 64/76 (84.2%) patients completed the prescribed CT. Eight (10.5%) patients developed grade 3-4 acute toxicity. Overall, 72/76 patients underwent surgery. The tumor and nodal down-staging was documented in 51 (70.8%) and 43 (67%) patients, respectively. Twenty (27.8%) patients obtained a pathologic complete response. Surgical morbidity was reported in 13/72 patients (18.1%).Conclusions: Although retrospective in design, this study indicates that IMRT-SIB with a dose range of 52.5-57.5 Gy (median 54 Gy) and concomitant Capecitabine appears feasible, well tolerated and effective in terms of disease down-staging and pathological complete response. Objective: In radiotherapy treatment, planning target volume and organs at risk are contoured on kilovoltage CT (kVCT) images. Unlike MR images, kVCT does not provide precise information on target volume extension. Since neither kVCT nor MRI may be suitable for contouring in patients with ferrous hip prostheses, this study evaluated whether megavoltage CT (MVCT) reduced interobserver variability. Methods: Two patients without hip prostheses and one patient (Patient 3) with hip prostheses were enrolled. Six radiation oncologists contoured prostate, rectum and bladder on kVCT (Patients 1 and 3). MRI (Patient 2) and MVCT images (Patient 3). MVCT was acquired with fine, normal and coarse modalities. Interobserver variability for each organ was analysed using conformity index (CI) and coefficient of variation (CV). Results: In patients without hip prostheses. CIs were higher in prostate contouring with MRI than with kVCT, indicating lower interobserver variability with MRI. Very slight variations were seen in rectum and bladder contouring. In the patient with hip prostheses (Patient 3), contouring on kVCT lowered CI and increased CV in the prostate, bladder and rectum. The differences were more marked in the prostate. Only fine modality MVCT reduced interobserver variability and only for the prostate. Conclusion: Even though greater noise and less soft-tissue contrast increase contouring variability with MVCT than with kVCT, lack of artefacts on MVCT could provide better image definition by this modality in hip prosthesis patients in whom MRI is precluded. In this multicenter collaboration, we report real-world data in the largest published series of long-term outcomes for patients with relapsed/refractory (r/r) Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) treated with peritransplant radiation therapy (pt-RT) and high-dose chemotherapy with autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT). We conducted a retrospective analysis including data from 12 institutions. Eligibility required histologic diagnosis of HL, receipt of ASCT plus pt-RT between 2004 and 2014 for r/r HL, and age ≥18 years at the time of ASCT. All patients received salvage chemotherapy for maximum debulking before ASCT. Metabolic responses were scored according to the Lugano Classification. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS). Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards were calculated to estimate the effect of covariates on patients' outcome. One hundred thirty-one patients were eligible: 68 were male (52%), and median age at ASCT was 32 years (range, 18-70). At the time of diagnosis with r/r HL, 92 patients (70%) had limited (stage I-II) disease, and 10 patients (8%) had bulky disease. Pt-RT was given pre-ASCT in 32 patients (24%) and post-ASCT in 99 (76%); median prescribed dose was 30.6 Gy (range, 20-44 Gy). With median follow-up of 60 months, 3- and 5-year OS were 84% and 77%, while 3- and 5-year progression-free survival were 75% and 72%, respectively. On univariate and multivariate analysis, advanced stage at relapse (hazard ratio [HR], 2.18; P =.04), irradiation of >3 sites (HR, 3.69; P =.01), and incomplete metabolic response after salvage chemotherapy (HR, 2.24; P =.01) had a negative effect on OS. The sequencing of pt-RT (pre- vs post-ASCT) did not affect outcomes. Overall, the addition of pt-RT to ASCT for patients with r/r HL is associated with very good outcomes. Purpose: Encrusted cystitis is a rare chronic inflammatory disease characterized by calcified plaques of the bladder, previously altered by varies conditions as urological procedures, caused by urea-splitting bacteria. Only one case has been reported on encrusted cystitis occurring after surgery and radiation therapy for a pelvic neoplasm. We report on encrusted cystitis occurred after definitive radiotherapy for bulky uterine cervix cancer, and examine the doses to the bladder wall and the procedure of radiation treatment performed as a possible cause of the onset of the disease. Case presentation: A 52-year-old female developed encrusted cystitis, caused by Corynebacterium spp., after 14 months from definitive chemo-radiotherapy and 2/D brachytherapy treatment for FIGO stage IB2 uterine cervix cancer. For pelvic radiotherapy, the mean bladder dose was 48.47 Gy (range 31.20-51.91); maximal bladder point doses at each brachytherapy insertions were 7.62 Gy, 4.94 Gy and 6.27 Gy at first, second, and third fraction, respectively. Total biological effective dose (BED) at bladder point was 140.05 Gy3. The patient was administered antibiotic therapy with linezolid and urine acidification with vitamin C; dietary norms were also suggested. After therapy, complete remission of symptoms and radiological findings were achieved, and the planned surgery for removing the calcified plaques was not completed. After 5 years from the cervical cancer diagnosis, the patient was disease-free without urinary symptoms. Conclusions: The high doses administered to the bladder wall and the repeated catheterizations performed at each brachytherapy insertions may have favored the infection and promoted the occurrence of the encrusted cystitis. Background: The Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) is a parameter of nutritional and inflammation status related to toxicity in cancer treatment. Since data for head and neck cancer are scanty, this study aims to investigate the association between PNI and acute and late toxicity for this malignancy. Methods: A retrospective cohort of 179 head and neck cancer patients treated with definitive radiotherapy with induction/concurrent chemotherapy was followed-up (median follow-up: 38 months) for toxicity and vital status between 2010 and 2017. PNI was calculated according to Onodera formula and low/high PNI levels were defined according to median value. Odds ratio (OR) for acute toxicity were calculated through logistic regression model; hazard ratios (HR) for late toxicity and survival were calculated through the Cox proportional hazards model. Results: median PNI was 50.0 (interquartile range: 45.5–53.5). Low PNI was associated with higher risk of weight loss > 10% during treatment (OR = 4.84, 95% CI: 1.73–13.53 for PNI < 50 versus PNI ≥ 50), which was in turn significantly associated with worse overall survival, and higher risk of late mucositis (HR = 1.84; 95% CI:1.09–3.12). PNI predicts acute weight loss >10% and late mucositis. Conclusions: PNI could help clinicians to identify patients undergoing radiotherapy who are at high risk of acute and late toxicity. Background Evaluate safety, feasibility and efficacy of an intesified IMRT and concomitant carboplatin and paclitaxel-based chemotherapy (Carbo/Tax CT) in patients (pts) with locally advanced esophageal cancer (LAEC) treated at our Institution Methods We retrospectively analyzed acute toxicity (according to CTCAE 4.0 scale), compliance and response to treatment in a series of consecutive patients treated, between February 2016 and February 2018, with intensified radiotherapy (IMRT) and weekly concurrent carboplatin and paclitaxel-based chemotherapy (CT) according to the CROSS trial. Results Thirty-four consecutive pts, 30(88%) males and 4 (12%) females, were treated. The median age was 68.5 yrs (range 46–83) and the ECOG Performance status ranged from 0 to 2. The diagnosis was adenocarcinoma in 15 pts (44%), squamous-cell carcinoma in 18 pts (53%) and undifferentiated carcinoma in 1 pt (3%). Two pts (6%) had a T2, 26 pts (76.4%) a T3 and 6 pts (17.6%) a T4 disease, respectively; 5 pts (15%) were N0, 21 pts (62%) N1 and 8 pts (23%) N2, respectively. Tumor involved the cervical esophagus in 3 pts (9%), the thoracic esophagus in 24 pts (70.5%) and the gastroesophageal junction in 7(20.5%). All pts underwent concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT), with IMRT technique, consisting of 45 Gy/25 frs to PTV1 (the primary gross tumor volume and the regional nodes), a simultaneous integrated boost ranging from 52.5Gy to 54Gy to PTV2 (gross tumor volume) and weekly concurrent carboplatin (AUC2) and paclitaxel (50mg/m2). Induction CT was administered to 6 pts. All pts completed the RT schedule. The median number of CT cycles was 3 (range 1–5) and 11 pts (32%) received 4 to 5 cycles of CT. Two adverse reactions to paclitaxel were reported. There were no major non-hematological adverse effects, the most common were nausea and vomiting (10%), and dysphagia (7%). Leukopenia was reported in 20 pts (71%), G3 in 2 pts (10%) and G2 in 18 (90%), respectively. G2 anemia occurred in 2 pts while G2 thrombocytopenia was reported in 3 pts (10%). Among the 30 evaluable pts (restaging is ongoing in 4 pts) a clinical complete response (PET, endoscopy and biopsy) was observed in 11 pts (37%), 7 with adenocarcinom and 4 with squamous cell carcinoma. Partial response was observed in 11 pts (37%) and 8 (26%) showed progressive disease. Total esophagectomy with radical lymphadenectomy, performed in 11 pts, showed a pathologic complete response in 6 pts (54%). Conclusion Intensified IMRT with concomitant Carbo/Tax CT in pts with LAEC seems to be safe and effective. Purpose: We conducted a phase 3 randomized clinical trial to assess whether radical hemithoracic radiation therapy (RHR) compared with palliative radiation therapy (PR) can achieve overall survival (OS) advantages in patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM).Methods and Materials: From August 2014 to May 2018, patients with histologically diagnosed nonmetastatic MPM, who underwent nonradical lung-sparing surgery and chemotherapy (CHT), were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive RHR or PR. RHR total dose to the involved pleural cavity was 50 Gy in 25 fractions, and the gross residual disease received a simultaneous integrated boost of 60 Gy. The primary endpoint was OS. Secondary endpoints were local control, distant metastasis-free survival, progression-free survival, and acute and late toxicity rates. A sample size of 108 patients considering a type I error (α) of 0.05 and a statistical power of 80% was calculated to prove that RHR could improve the 2-year OS. OS was estimated with the Kaplan-Meier method and the log-rank test (2-sided) tested differences between arms. The univariate and multivariate analyses were performed using Cox proportional hazard model. Possible prognostic factors investigated: age, sex, performance status, lung surgery, gross residual disease, and histology.Results: One hundred eight patients were randomized: 53 to the PR arm and 55 to the RHR arm. Median follow-up was 14.6 months. The 2-year OS rate was 58% in the RHR arm versus 28% in the PR arm (hazard ratio, 0.54; 95% confidence interval, 0.31-0.95; P = .031). In the RHR arm: 11 patients experienced acute toxicity grade ≥3, 17 patients had grade 3 to 4 late toxicity. Nine patients experience a grade ≥2 pneumonitis, including 1 patient with grade 5.Conclusions: RHR significantly improves survival in patients with MPM treated with nonradical lung-sparing surgery and CHT compared with palliative treatments, although it is associated with a nonnegligible toxicity profile. Background: The aim of this study was to prospectively evaluate the safety and oncologic outcomes of multimodal treatment in high risk-locally advanced prostate cancer patients (PCa)., Methods: High-risk-locally advanced prostate cancer patients without distant metastases before radical prostatectomy (RP) were included. Adjuvant high-dose intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) with concurrent docetaxel and long-term androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT) were started after 3-6 months from RP. ADT was maintained for two years. Acute and late toxicity were evaluated with the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (v. 3.0). Acute genitourinary toxicity was observed with Grade I, II, and III in four (9.5%), two (4.8%), and one (2.3%) patients, respectively. Acute gastrointestinal toxicity was reported to be of Grade I and II in 12 (29.3%) and three (7.2%) patients, respectively. In these patients, concomitant genito-urinary and gastrointestinal toxicity occurred in three (7.2%) cases. A residual GU Grade I toxicity was present only in one patient. Toxicity due to CHT was found in four (9.5%) patients. Complete continence after RP and IMRT was achieved in 32 patients (76.2%). After a median follow-up of 3.4 years, BCR and clinical recurrence were observed in 16.7% and 9.5% of patients, respectively. A 5-year biochemical and clinical recurrence-free survival rate were 70.7% and 84.0%, respectively. Five-year overall survival was 93.6%. None of the patients died for prostate cancer during follow-up., Conclusions: This novel multimodal treatment paradigm for high-risk locally advanced prostate cancer has an acceptable level of toxicity and good oncological outcomes observed after a long follow-up.

Aim: To analyze risk factors for acute rectal toxicity during hypofractionated intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) for prostate cancer., Patients and Methods: A total of 195 patients received 74.25 Gy in 33 fractions to the prostate and, if involved, to the seminal vescicles (SV). When the risk of SV involvement was >15% according to the Roach's formula, they received 62 Gy in 33 fractions. Overall, 107/195 patients (54.87%) received hormonal therapy (luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone analogue, anti-androgen, or both). Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events version 3.0 was used to classify rectal toxicity., Results: Acute rectal toxicity occurred in 79 (40.51%) patients (grade 1 in 44). In univariate analysis, use of calcium channel blockers significantly reduced the acute rectal toxicity rate and 3-hydroxy-methylglutaryl CoA reductase inhibitors (statins) significantly reduced the rectal toxicity rate and grade. In multivariate analysis, only statin use was an independent protective factor., Conclusion: In patients with prostate cancer treated with a moderate hypofractionated IMRT schedule, use of statins lowered the incidence and grade of acute rectal toxicity., (Copyright© 2017, International Institute of Anticancer Research (Dr. George J.
