Introduction: The consumption of high-protein foods after resistance training increases training achievement, which may benefit diabetic patients. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of milk consumption after resistance training on the glycemic control and irisin levels of type II diabetic (T2D) men. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 36 male patients with T2D, mean age of 53.6±4.8 years and mean body mass index of 27.1±3.6 kg/m2. The patients were randomly divided into three groups of control, resistance training (RT), and resistance training and milk consumption (RTM). Eight weeks of RT was performed in three sets of 12 maximum repetitions three days per week. The RTM group consumed 500 milliliters of low-fat milk after the exercise. Fasting blood glucose, insulin, HbA1c, irisin, weight, waist-to-hip ratio, muscle strength, and limb circumference were measured before and after the intervention. Objective: Research has convincingly demonstrated that Internet interventions are effective for anxiety and depression and it is suggested that these interventions can reduce therapist time and thus save costs. Therefore, many Dutch mental health organizations have started to implement these treatments into their services. They usually apply the Internet interventions in combination with the face-to-face treatments, i.e. blended treatments. To date, no empirical work has examined if implementing blended treatments actually contributes to treatment effects and cost savings. The objective of this naturalistic study was to examine this issue, using routine mental health care data for patients with depression or anxiety. Methods: All 4448 records of patients with depression or anxiety seeking help at a large mental health service between October 2009 and December 2012 were obtained. Data on GAF-index, therapist time, and therapist costs of patients who received face-to-face treatments were compared with those who received blended care, using propensity score matching. Results: Blended care was applied in 3.6% of all patients and was given more frequently to younger patients and patients with an anxiety disorder. There were no significant differences in symptom severity at baseline between the two treatment groups, nor were there significant differences between the two groups in symptom improvement. Patients who received blended care had more treatment sessions (face-to-face plus online sessions) than patients who received standard treatment, which resulted in significantly more treatment time and higher costs. Conclusion: Findings suggest that in this sample blended care is more expensive compared to established face-to-face treatments and doesn't lead to additional benefits in terms of general functioning. This might be caused by suboptimal implementation strateges.

In this study, several methods to analyze convective heat transfer in a porous medium are presented and discussed. First, the method of Fourier was used to obtain solutions for reduced temperatures θs and θf. The results showed an exponentially decaying propagating temperature front. Then, we discuss the method of integration that was presented earlier by Schumann. This method makes use of a transformation of variables. Thirdly, the system of partial differential equations was directly solved with the Finite Difference method, of which the result showed good agreement with the Fourier solutions. For the chosen Δτ and Δξ, the maximum error for θf=3.7%. The maximum error for θs for the first ξ and first τ is large (36%) but decays rapidly. The problem was extended by adding a linear heat source term to the solid. Again, making use of the change in variables, analytical solutions were derived for the solid and fluid phases, and corrections to the previous literature were suggested. Finally, results obtained from a numerical model were compared to the analytical solutions, which again showed good agreement (maximum error of 6%).
