Bu çalışmanın amacı, gelişen bir turizm aktivitesi olarak dağ turizminin ve spor turizminin önemine dikkat çekmek ve Ağrı’ya dağ turizmi ve spor turizmi için gelecek olan yerli ve yabancı turistlerin karşılaşabilecekleri engelleri tespit etmek, bunlara dikkat çekmek ve bu konuda farkındalık yaratmaktır. Çalışmada araştırma yöntemlerinden döküman analizi yöntemi ve gözden geçirme derleme yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada çeşitli bilimsel veri ve yayınlar taranmış, kaynaklar gözden geçirilerek araştırma konuları tasnif edilmiş, bazı resmî kurumların istatistiki verilerinden yararlanılmıştır. Literatür taraması sırasında dağcılık ve spor turizmi ilişkileri gözden geçirilmiştir. Ağrı Dağı’nda en büyük sorun barınma sorunudur. Ağrı Dağı’nda ağustos ayında bile fırtına, kar, yağmur anlık yağmakta ve hava şartları gece eksi derecelere kadar düşmekte bu da haliyle insanları çok zor durumda bırakmaktadır. Dağ'da yapılacak olan bir tesisin olması aynı zamanda kış turizmi içinde uygun tırmanışların yapılmasına imkân tanıyarak bölgeye çok daha fazla turist gelmesine vesile olacaktır. Dağ’a Tırmanış için en uygun zaman Ağustos ve Eylül aylarıdır. Yüksek dağlık alanlarda yaşayan ve ekonomik kaynakları yetersiz toplumlar açısından turizm bir şans olarak değerlendirilebilir. Ülkemizde turizmin gelişmesi, çeşitlenmesi ve dağlık yörelerde yaşayan nüfusun turizmden ek gelir sağlaması, olumlu bir gelişme olarak düşünebilir.

Üçlü yapı olarak adlandırılan devlet, işveren ve çalışanlar iş sağlığı ve güvenliğinin (İSG) sağlanmasından ve iyileştirilmesinden sorumlu taraflar olarak kabul edilmektedir. Üçlü yapı gözetilerek hazırlanan 6331 sayılı İSG Kanunu Türkiye’de 2012 yılından itibaren yürürlükte bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada üçlü yapıyı ilgilendiren çalışanların güvenlik yetkinliği, çalışanların 6331 sayılı İSG Kanunu uygulamalarından memnuniyeti ve çalışanların bireysel çıktıları arasındaki ilişkileri araştırmak amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırma verilerini toplamak için Sakarya’daki 6331 sayılı İSG Kanununa tabi firma çalışanları hedef kitle olarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırmanın amacını gerçekleştirmek için gerekli veriler 304 çalışandan anket tekniği kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Toplanan veriler keşfedici faktör analizi (KFA) ve doğrulayıcı faktör analizi (DFA) yöntemleri kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Analiz bulguları göstermiştir ki; güvenlik yetkinliği ile 6331 sayılı İSG Kanunu uygulamalarından memnuniyet, güvenlik yetkinliği ile bireysel çıktılar ve 6331 sayılı İSG Kanunu uygulamalarından memnuniyet ile bireysel çıktılar arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı pozitif yönde doğrudan bir ilişki vardır. Ayrıca, güvenlik yetkinliğinin İSG Kanunu uygulamalarından memnuniyet üzerinden bireysel çıktılar üzerinde dolaylı etkisi olduğu bulunmuştur. Bu çalışmada üçlü yapıyı oluşturan devlet, işveren ve çalışanın birlikte hareket etmesiyle Türkiye’de İSG’nin sağlanabileceği ve iyileştirilebileceği ampirik olarak ortaya konulmuştur.

Background: The study tries to show the effect of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation implemented via plan-do-check-act methodology on accident and sickness absenteeism. Methods: The data for the study gathered via a questionnaire from a large-sized organization operates in production and maintenance of passenger coaches in February–March 2019 in Turkey. The data analyzed via structural equation model analysis. Results: The results showed that there are statistically meaningful relationships between OHS protective measures, training and informing of employees, and employee participation and accident and sickness absenteeism. In addition, a meaningful relationship between internal control and accident and sickness absenteeism was determined. Statistically meaningful relationships between emergency measures, and health surveillance and internal control, and accident and sickness absenteeism could not be determined. Conclusion: It is concluded that the actions implemented by organizations to reduce absenteeism should be as per OHS legislation.

Objective: On February 6, 2023, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.6 occurred in Kahramanmaras, affecting south and central Türkiye as well as north and west Syria. The objective of this study is to present the clinical and radiological findings of chest trauma patients in a significant disaster like an earthquake. It aims to contribute to early diagnosis and intervention in multidisciplinary treatment approaches, thereby reducing mortality and morbidity rates. Materials and Methods: This study was a cross-sectional type registry research. A total of 6,500 patients who presented to Kayseri City Hospital due to the earthquake between February 6, 2023 and February 20, 2023 were retrospectively reviewed through medical hospital records. Of these, 150 patients with blunt or penetrating chest trauma were included in the study. Results: Among the 6,500 patients screened, chest trauma was identified in 150 cases. The average age was 45.1 years. Of the patients, 40.0% arrived at the hospital within 0-1 days, while 10.7% arrived after 6 or more days, with the longest duration being 11 days. While 30.7% of patients had no rib fractures, 31.3% had fractures on the right side, 10.7% had bilateral fractures, and 23.3% had 5 or more rib fractures. Complications occurred in 61.3% of cases, 69.3% received medical treatment, and 26.7% underwent tube thoracostomy. The patients' hospital stays ranged from 0 to 162 days, with an average of 18 days and a median of 11.5 days. Conclusion: Türkiye and its surrounding regions are prone to frequent earthquakes, and similar events are expected in the future. A multidisciplinary patient approach, starting from the emergency department, plays a crucial role, with thoracic surgery being an integral part of this approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The effects of high-intensity interval and continuous exercise on erythrocytes carbonic anhydrase (CA, EC 4.2.1.1) activity levels were scarcely investigated up until now. Here we present a study focused on the CA activity from erythrocytes of athletes experiencing interval and continuous training for 6 weeks, during cold weather and at high altitude (> 1600 m). We observed a 50% increase in the blood CA activity at the second week after initiation of the training in both interval and continuos running groups, whereas the control group did not experience any variation in the enzyme activity levels. In the trained individuals a mild decrease in their body mass, BMI and an increased were also observed. The CA activity returned at the basal values after 4–6 weeks after the training started, probably proving that a metabolic compensation occurred without the need of an enhanced enzyme activity. The unexpected 50% rise of activity for an enzyme which acts as a very efficient catalyst for CO2 hydration/bicarbonate dehydration, such as the blood CA, deserves further investigations for better understanding the physiologic basis of this phenomenon.

The aim of this study is to make a comparison of some blood parameters of the elite level strength athletes in two different branches. Sixty male and female sedentary and national elite level athletes in the range of 18-22 years voluntarily participated in this research. 60 volunteers were divided into 3 groups as the control group (10 males, 10 females), the experimental group 1 (10 males, 10 female athletes) and the experimental group 2 (10 males, 10 female ski runners). Blood samples were taken at the resting state after briefing the test subjects during the period of competition. The subjects were warned a day before measurements not to take any food and drink from the evening at 22:00. 5 ml blood samples taken from the forearm were collected in EDTA tubes at 10.00-11.00am and biochemical analyzes were performed at the Central Laboratory of Biochemistry in Agri State Hospital. Obtained data were analyzed and evaluated in SPSS 19.0. In the analysis, Shapiro Wilk, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used. According to the biochemical results of male athletes, while there is no significant correlation between the values of Glucose, ALT, Triglycerides, Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, FE Binding Capacity, Creatinine Kinase and MG, a significant correlation were found in the BUN value between skiers with athlete and control groups, in the Albumin value between athlete and control groups, in the NA value between athlete and control groups, in the AST value between athlete and skiers groups, in uric acid value among all groups, in CA value among all groups, in creatinine value among all groups. According to the biochemistry results of female athletes located in skiers, athlete and control groups, a statistically significant difference was observed between control and skier groups in terms of CA value (p=0.04). There are meaningful differences between the control and athlete groups and between control and skier groups in terms of Creatinine Kinase value (p=0.00). There was not any significant correlation between the groups compared to the other parameters. When athletes in the control and experimental groups were compared among themselves, significant differences have been found in some blood parameters but it has not been observed any differences in some other parameters.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, 6331 sayılı İş Sağlığı ve Güvenliği (İSG) Kanununun imalat firmalarının bireysel ve örgütsel sonuçları üzerinde firma büyüklüğünün diğer bir deyişle firmaların ekonomik gücünün etkisini ortaya koymaktır. Yöntem: Veri toplama aracı olarak anket yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Türkiye’de 2017 yılı Şubat ve Mayıs döneminde, küçük, orta ve büyük ölçekli farklı NACE kodlarındaki 209 imalat firmasından veri toplanmıştır. Veriler bilgisayar ortamında tanımlayıcı ve çıkarımsal istatistik yöntemleri kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan firmaların İSG Kanunu yükümlülüklerini tam yerine getirecek kadar İSG Kanununa uyum harcaması yaptıkları, maddi gücü yüksek büyük ölçekli firmaların maddi gücü düşük küçük ve orta ölçekli firmalardan, orta ölçekli firmaların ise küçük ölçekli firmalardan daha fazla İSG için kaynak tahsis ettikleri bulunmuştur. Benzer şekilde İSG kanunu yükümlülüklerinin tam olarak yerine getirilmesinin büyük ve orta ölçekli işletmeler üzerinde olumlu yönde bireysel ve örgütsel sonuçlara yol açtığı bulunmuştur. İSG kanunu yükümlülüklerini yerine getirmek için firmalar tarafından yapılan uyum maliyetleri ve bunun sonucunda elde edilen örgütsel sonuçlar, firma büyüklüğüne bağlı olarak istatistiksel manada anlamlı bir farklılık göstermiştir. Bireysel sonuçlarda ise firma büyüklüğünün istatistiksel manada anlamlı bir farklılık göstermediği bulunmuştur. Analizler sonucunda, İSG için ayrı bütçe kalemi tahsis eden firmaların bireysel ve örgütsel sonuçlarında daha fazla iyileşme sağlandığı ve firmaların İSG için önceden bütçe tahsis edip etmeme durumu bağlamında bireysel ve örgütsel sonuçlarında istatistiki anlamda bir farklılık olduğu bulunmuştur Sonuç: Bu çalışmada, firma büyüklüğünün dolayısıyla maddi gücün ve İSG için önceden bütçe kalemi tahsis edilmesinin firmaların bireysel ve örgütsel sonuçlarında daha fazla iyileşmeye yol açtıkları ampirik olarak ortaya konulmuştur.

The purpose of the study is observing food habits and awareness of the students studying at Coaching Training and Sports Teaching Department of School of Physical Education and Sports and detecting whether there is a variance between departments. The study has been observed on 94 students at Physical Education Teaching Department and 106 Coaching Training Department, which makes 200 students in total. For data collection, a 30-question food habit questionnaire comprising of 20 food habit questions and 10 nutrition awareness questions prepared by Goral as well as a personal information form filled by researchers have been used. Data derived from the scale had been converted to form of tables by extracting distributions in terms of percentage. SPSS 16.0 has been employed for statistical estimations. The frequency and percentage values of the derived data have been calculated, and a chi-square had been utilized to detect any variance between the groups within different categories. In case of a value p gt;0.05, the variance between groups is accepted to be significant. The information collected has pointed out no significant variance between the awareness levels of the students at Coaching and Teaching Department with respect to the answers given by them about weight follow-up and body analysis, the number of meals in a day, use of alcohol, regular fluid intake and beginning day with breakfast. In respect of information resources of nutrition and nutrition awareness before and after training, significant relations have been uncovered about awareness of the relation between awareness of level of daily energy need, awareness and way of nutrition habits before and after training and success in sports. Finally, no significant variance has been detected between the nutrition awareness levels of the students at Coaching Department and the ones at Sport Teaching Department in some issues. It is important to improve both groups' awareness levels of athlete nutrition. Our study offers that some more extensive studies should be done on this matter.

Bu çalışmada ISO 14001 çevre yönetim sistemi (ÇYS) ve OHSAS 18001 iş sağlığı ve güvenliği yönetim sistemi (İSGYS) belgelerine sahip olan firmalarda önleme maliyetlerindeki yönelimlerine bağlı olarak çalışan memnuniyeti algılarının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla Türkiye’de faaliyet gösteren ISO 14001 ve OHSAS 18001 belgeli 148 firmadan veri toplanmıştır. Firmaların kazaları en aza indirmek için yaptıkları önleme maliyetleri verileri tanımlayıcı istatistik yöntemiyle ve çalışan memnuniyeti algıları ise Tek-Örnek t-Testi (t=3.25) yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular, katılımcı firmaların kazaları önleme hususunda İSG yönetim sistemi ve yasal şartları tam sağlayacak kadar harcama yaptıklarını ve buna bağlı olarak çalışan memnuniyeti algısını ölçmek üzere hazırlanan beş sorunun dördünde olumlu tutuma sahip olduklarını ortaya koymuştur. Katılımcı firmaların karakteristik özellikleri dikkate alındığında ise büyük ölçekli (çalışan sayısı 250’den fazla) ve beş yıldan fazla süredir bu yönetim sistemlerinin uyguladığını belirten firmaların diğerlerine nazaran açık ara çevre ve iş sağlığı ve güvenliğine yatırım yaptıkları ve çalışan memnuniyetinde de daha fazla olumlu sonuç aldıkları bulunmuştur. Bu çalışma sonucunda, ÇYS ve İSGYS uygulamalarına yatırım yapan firmalarda firma performansına olumlu etkisi olan çalışan memnuniyetinde iyileşme sağlandığına dair yeterli kanıtlar sağlanmıştır.

This study aims at determining the correlations between different methods of vertical jumping and static balance. A total of 46 male athletes (handball players 14, volleyball players 13, and soccer players 19) were included in the research. For each participant, the following measurements were made respectively: 1) height and weight measurement, 2) 5-minute warm up run, 3) trial measurements so that participants could adjust to the balance platform, 4) Static balance measurements, 5) jumping measurements; and then the procedure was ended. The “Descriptive” test was employed for numerical variables, and descriptive statistics were represented as averages ± standard deviations. Because parametric test assumptions were not met in analysing the independent variables for the participants, Spearman’s Moments Multiplication Correlation test was used. In consequence, statistically significant correlations were not found between static jump and counter movement jump – vertical jump methods- and static balance parameters (p gt;0.05). Yet, it may be said that statistically significant correlations are available between drop jump and static balance parameters (p lt;0.05). It was found that there were significant correlations between static balance and drop jump in athletes, but that there were no significant correlations between static jump and counter movement jump.

The aims of this study were to describe the anthropometric characteristics, body composition and somatotype of top-level male table tennis players, to compare the first 12 top-level table tennis players with the lower ranked players, and to establish profile chart for total of 112 top-level table tennis players. A total of 112 top-level table tennis players, aged between 9 and 12 years participated in this study. The athletes were divided into three groups, the first 12 (Group A, n=12) and the lower ranked players (Group B, n=47) and (Group C, n=53). In the analysis and comment of the data, One Way Variance Analysis (ANOVA) Test were used. There were no significant differences in anthropometric characteristics, body composition and somatotype among the groups. A mesomorph – endomorph somatotype was registered for total of 112 top-level table tennis players. But analysis, taking into account, revealed a balanced ectomorph somatotype for the first 12 players, and a mesomorph - ectomorph somatotype for B group and a mesomorph - endomorph somatotype for C group. Although the influence of anthropometric characteristics on table tennis performance is not clear yet, it seems obvious that a mesomorph - ectomorph predominance can play a decisive role in any sport, On the other hand, high levels of body fat could have a negative effect on sport performance. Regarding to somatotype assessment, balanced ectomorph was the most important component in the first 12 players. In the present study, a greater body fat mass were observed lower ranked players than first 12 players

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of fetal neural abnormalities detected by prenatal ultrasonography in a university hospital in Turkey, and to review the points critical on the diagnosis of each fetal neural abnormality. STUDY DESING: This is a single center retrospective study. The prenatal ultrasonographic imaging of all the women referred to Department of Radiology of Gaziantep University Medical School, between January 2000 and March 2006, for fetal ultrasonography were reviewed. Fetal ultrasonographies were performed with high resolution sonography devices and all the fetal neural abnormalities were recorded. RESULTS: A total of 32 (0.85%) fetuses with neural abnormalities among 3782 fetal ultrasonographies were detected. Of these 32, six were also confirmed to have fetal neural abnormality by using fast obstetric magnetic resonance imaging. The identified fetal neural abnormalities were as follows: seven Chiari II (0,18%), one Chiari III (0,02%), three Meckel-Gruber syndrome (0,08%), eight anencephaly (0,21%), two schizencephaly (0,05%), two colpocephaly (0,05%), two choroid plexus cysts (0,05%), one arachnoid cyst (0,02%), two Dandy-Walker Malformation with occipital encephalocele (0,05%) and one thoracal meningomyelocele (0,02%). CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study showed that the overall prevalence of fetal neural abnormalities in the Department of Radiology in Gaziantep University is relevant to current medical literature. However, the prevalence of schizencephaly is remarkably higher than previously reported, which is thought to be due to high sensitivity of high resolution sonography devices used in this study.

Background: We aimed to report the demographic characteristics with diagnosis and treatment methods in patients with concomitant hepatopulmonary hydatid cysts. Methods: Over a ten-year period (from 2002-2020) in Konya, Turkey, surgery was performed on 52 patients with hepatopulmonary hydatid cyst. Main outcome measure(s) were 52 hydatid cysts patients, which had cysts both in the liver and lungs, were investigated regarding their age, gender, cyst localization, suppuration, symptoms, and treatment methods. Results: Seventeen of the patients were males. Their mean age was 39.7±18.8 years. The most common occupation was housewifery. The most common symptom was coughing and none of the patients with concomitant hepatopulmonary hydatid cysts was asymptomatic. The pulmonary hydatid cysts were mostly encountered in the right lung and the majority of the hepatic hydatid cysts were observed in the right lobe. The mean hospitalization time of the operated patients was 17.12±6.7 days. Conclusion: In patients with hydatid cysts localized concomitantly in the right lung and subdiaphragmatic area, right thoracotomy for the pulmonary cyst and a transdiaphragmatic approach for the hepatic cyst is a safe, effective, and comfortable method. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare preoperative and postoperative one year-cost analyses of endobronchial valve and enbronchial coil practices and volume-reduction surgical methods applied for the purpose of reducing volume in the patients with emphysema. Material and Methods: All the data regarding the one- year-preoperative and postoperative hospital costs of the patients in our hospital, 11 of whom received an endobronchial valve, 9 of whom received an endobronchial coil and 7 of whom underwent a volume reduction-surgery due to emphysema, were obtained along with the data of the respiratory function test and 6-minute walking test results by accessing into the database of our hospital. Results: The entire research group consisted of 27 patients. Following valve and coil and the volume reduction-surgical intervention, there had been an increase in SFT FEV1% values of the patients with emphysema by 54.0%, 44.4% and 24.6%, respectively, whereas another increase was observed in their six-minute walking distances values by 85.7%, 78.7% and 34.1%, respectively. When the costs of the interventions on emphysema were analyzed, valve ($12943.6) and coil ($11328.9) practices were seen to be almost 5 times more costly than the Volume-reduction surgical treatment ($2444.3). Background: Hydatid cysts are encountered frequently in regions endemic with livestock. The basic treatment for a hydatid cyst is total surgical removal of the cyst and its inner contents. Hypertonic NaCl or diluted betadine solution are used as germicidal agents for most hydatid surgeries. However, the germicidal efficacy of the Ankaferd Blood Stopper® (ABS) has not been investigated. Thus, we compared the efficacy of ABS for hydatid cysts with that of other germicidal agents. Methods: Lung and liver tissues containing hydatid cyst liquid were collected from slaughterhouses. Six samples of each cyst were randomly allocated into different groups as follows: 20% hypertonic NaCl, betadine solution, ABS, 20% liquefied Andazole solution, 0.1% eosin, and distilled water. All groups were examined microscopically at 5, 10, and 15 min after treatment began to determine protoscolece viability rates. Results: The most efficacious germicidal agent at 5 min was ABS, and betadine and hypertonic NaCl had similar efficacies. Betadine, ABS, and hypertonic NaCl showed similar efficacies at 15 min. Conclusion: ABS was an effective germicidal agent to treat hydatid cysts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The esophageal burns caused by corrosive substances are of great importance since they progress along with serious complications. Here, we have aimed to evaluate our 39 cases we followed up and treated in our clinic due to taking in corrosive substances according to their clinical characteristics and our treatment approaches. Materials and Methods: Thirty nine patients whose file records could be obtained and who were treated for corrosive esophagitis between January 2000 and December 2007 were included in our study. Clinical features and treatment of those cases were recorded and evaluated. Results: The intake rate of corrosive substances was higher in women. The amount of corrosive substance taken in was prominently higher in those having it for suicidal purposes compared to those having it by accident. According to their endoscopic features, 82.1% of the cases were found to have had endoscopic findings referred to as normal or grade 1. While ulcer grade 2-3 comprised 10.3% of all the cases, grade 4 comprised 7.7% of all the cases with severe burns. Conclusion: To stop the oral intake, performing an endoscopic evaluation and making a treatment plan in accordance with the endoscopy results for the patients applying the clinic in the early stage due to the intake of corrosive substances are of great importance in terms of preventing the complications likely to occur. Chylothorax is the collection of lymphatic fluid in the pleural space. Lymphatic fluid in the pleural space may cause metabolic and immunologic disorders. Trauma to the thoracic duct and malignant disease (non-Hodgkin's lymphoma) are the common mechanisms of chylothorax. Other rare causes are lymphangiomyomatosis, tuberculosis, venous thrombosis, congenital lymphatic malformations, nephrotic syndrome, hypothyroidism, cirrhosis and idiopathic chylothorax. A 56-year-old woman presented with dyspnea, reduced appetite and weight loss. A chest x-ray showed left homogenoeus density with a concave interface toward the lung and blunting of right costophrenic angle. Thoracentesis was performed. Milky off-white fluid was aspirated. Analysis of the fluid confirmed the diagnosis of chylothorax. Etiology was not determined. Chylothorax was regressed with conservative treatment. We present a case of rare bilateral-idiopathic chylothorax with regression following conservative therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, single-port VATS (video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery) applications have become widespread in the surgical treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax. In this study, the results of 16 patients with spontaneous pneumothorax who were treated by single-port VATS were analyzed retrospectively. Fourteen (87.5%) of the patients were male, 2 (12.5%) of them were female, the average age of the patients was 28.50 (minimum: 18, maximum 63). All patients were evaluated according to the affected side of the chest, preoperative clinical characteristics, surgical procedures, postoperative clinical characteristics and recurrence rates during the follow-up period. More than half (56.3%) of the patients had a right and 43.82% of them a left pneumothorax.The mean operation time ( 38.75 min), length of surgical incision (2.5 cm), average amount of drainage (185.25 ml), mean postoperative duration of indwelling drain (4.13 days), and mean postoperative hospital stay (5.13 days) were also estimated as included in parentheses. The patients suffered from mild (62.5%), moderate (12.5%), and severe pain (25%) according to their visual analogue scale (VAS) pain scores calculated within the first 24-hours. There was no recurrence in any patients during a mean of postoperative follow-up period of 12.50 months. Single-port VATS applications with advantages of shorter port incision length, operation , and drainage time and shorter hospital stay will become commonly used in the treatment of pneumothorax thanks to development of new surgical equipment and increased experience in the future. Introduction. Operations are performed for broader liver surgery indications for a better understanding of hepatic anatomy/physiology and developments in operation technology. Surgery can cure some patients with liver metastasis of some tumors. Nevertheless, postoperative liver failure is the most feared complication causing mortality in patients who have undergone excision of a large liver mass. The human amniotic membrane has regenerative effects. Thus, we investigated the effects of the human amniotic membrane on regeneration of the resected liver. Methods. Twenty female Wistar albino rats were divided into control and experimental groups and underwent a 70% hepatectomy. The human amniotic membrane was placed over the residual liver in the experimental group. Relative liver weight, histopathological features, and biochemical parameters were assessed on postoperative day 3. Results. Total protein and albumin levels were significantly lower in the experimental group than in the control group. No difference in relative liver weight was observed between the groups. Hepatocyte mitotic count was significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group. Hepatic steatosis was detected in the experimental group. Conclusion. Applying the amniotic membrane to residual liver adversely affected liver regeneration. However, mesenchymal stem cell research has the potential to accelerate liver regeneration investigations. Hemoptysis is the expectoration of blood or blood-stained sputum originating from the lung or bronchi. Hemoptysis is a commonly encountered symptom that should be searched for promptly in clinical practice. Most of the patients with hemoptysis have minor or limited-type hemoptysis, but less than 5% of patients present with massive hemoptysis, which is severe enough to threaten life and necessitates urgent intervention. Although a blood volume of more than 100 ml expectorated within 24 hours is generally considered massive hemoptysis, there is no universally accepted volume that defines massive hemoptysis. Instead of considering the amount of blood expectoration at once as the only criterion for massive hemoptysis, it is more suitable and functional to define massive hemoptysis as a large amount of blood expectoration that puts the life of patients in danger. Esophageal foreign bodies lead to serious morbidity and mortality in our country and around the world. The foreign bodies are located 28 to 68% of esophagus. Generally esophageal foreign bodies are located at the as called cricopharyngeus muscle first level in 70%, the thoracic esophagus second level in 15% and the gastroesophageal junction in the remaining 15%. Sharp edged objects and coins may lodge in the first esophagus. In children in the form of deliberate or accidental ingestion. Symptoms can vary according to the shape and structure of the ingested object, type of location, and complications caused by the foreign body. Foreign bodies such as bone and coins are usually seen in cervical radiographs in the hypoharynx and cervical esophagus. Lack of visualisation at radiography does not exclude the presence of a foreign body. In treatment, foley catheter, rigid esophagoscopy and removing the foreign body with a Magill forceps, treatment methods can be used. Cerebral venous thrombosis presenting with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is very rare. We report a case of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis as an initial manifestation of SAH. A 14-year-old boy was admitted with progressive headache, nausea, vomiting, diplopia, and gait disturbance. Cerebral computed tomography scan showed a widely SAH in the basal cisterns, bilateral sylvian fissures, and anterior interhemispheric fissure. Cerebral angiography was performed to detect any aneurysm in intracranial vasculature as a cause of SAH; however, the totally thrombosed superior sagittal sinus, galenic vein, and straight sinus were the sole abnormal findings. Partial or complete agenesis of hemidiaphragm is a rare anomaly and typically occurs in the neonatal period. Late presentation is very rare and elderly patients are asymptomatic for a long time. Partial agenesis of the hemidiaphragm is extremely rare and it was reported in only a few cases. They are usually associated with herniation of abdominal organs and are predominantly left sided. We report a case of a 70 year- old woman whose right-sided diaphragm agenesis with anteriorly displaced crus and intrathoracic herniation of kidney, liver and colon was demonstrated by multidetector computed tomography. A coexisting coronary heart disease may increase the operative mortality and morbidity rates of lung resection. A simultaneous or a two-stage procedure using myocardial revascularization prior to the pulmonary resection may reduce the postoperative morbidity and mortality. Objectives: The objective of this study was to compare the results of transthoracic biopsies performed through the use of FDG PET/CT imaging with the results of transthoracic needle biopsy performed without using the FDG PET/CT imaging., Methods: The medical files of a total of 58 patients with pulmonary and mediastinal masses. A total of 20 patients, who were suspected of malignancy with the SUVmax value of over 2.5 in FDG PET/CT, underwent a biopsy process. Twelve patients with no suspicion of malignancy in accordance with CT images and with the SUVmax value below 2.5 underwent no biopsy procedure, and hence, they were excluded from the study. On the other hand, 26 patients directly went through a biopsy process with the suspicion of malignancy according to CT imaging, regardless of performing any FDG PET/CT imaging., Results: According to the biopsy results, the number of the patients diagnosed with cancer was 20 (43.5%), while the number of non-cancerous patients was 26 (56.5%). When these findings were considered, it was determined that the sensitivity of the whole TTNB (transthoracic needle biopsy) was 80.8%, and the specificity was found as 100%. The positive predictive value of the whole TTNB was 100%, while its negative predictive value was found to be 80%. The sensitivity in TTNB performed together with FDG PET/CT was 90.9%, whereas the specificity was 100%. The positive predictive value of TTNB with FDG PET/CT was 100%, while its negative predictive value was found to be 81.8%. The sensitivity in TTNB performed without the use of FDG PET/CT was 73.3%, whereas the specificity was determined as 100%., Conclusions: Performing FDG PET/CT imaging process prior to a transthoracic biopsy as well as preferring FDG PET/CT for the spot on which the biopsy will be performed during the transthoracic biopsy procedure increases the rate of receiving accurate diagnosis.

Objectives: Pectus excavatum (PE) is one of the most common skeletal deformities of childhood. The study was undertaken to assess cardiac functions in children with PE., Methods: Echocardiography was performed on 32 children with PE and 40 age-matched healthy controls. The following parameters were monitored: meridional left ventricular (LV) wall stress (WSM), arterial elastance (Ea), LV elastance at end-systole derived by single beat (Ees(sb)), LV circumferential end-systolic wall stress (ESWSc), midwall shortening fraction (SFmid), predicted midwall fiber shortening for a measured fiber stress (midwall VCFc), myocardial fiber stress (MFS), LV end-systolic dimension (LVES), LV end-diastolic dimension (LVED) and end-systolic blood pressure (Pes), LV wall thickness at end-systole (hes). To assess the severity of PE, Haller index (HI) was calculated by computed tomography of the thorax., Results: SFmid, ESWSc, midwall VCFc and MFS were lower in PE children than in controls. The degree to which the parameters SFmid, ESWSc, midwall VCFc and MFS were altered in PE children was 14.9, 27.5, 20.3 and 20.3%, respectively. The minimum HI value of children with PE was 2.00, the maximum value was 4.93 and the arithmetic mean was 2.62 ± 0.56. Of the 32 children, 14 (43.75%) demonstrated mild deformity, 15 (46.88%) showed moderate and only 3 (9.37%) had severe deformity. In children with PE, there was no statistically significant correlation between the cardiac data (ESWSc, midwall VCFc, MFS, Ea, Ees(sb), LVES, LVED, Pes, hes) and HI., Conclusion: We found ESWSc, MFS, midwall VCFc and SFmid to be lower in children with PE than in controls. While foreign body aspirations are mostly seen in children, they are also observed in adulthood, but in a rare frequency. As it can be asymptomatic for a long time, it can also be confused with many clinical conditions, such as asthma, which can cause chronic cough. Various complications, such as bronchiectasis and pneumonia, can develop in the presence of long-standing aspirated foreign body. In this study, we present two cases one of whom diagnosed with asthma and treated for 30 years, and the other diagnosed with asthma and treated for 10 years. Although no pulmonary complications developed in our first case, bronchiectasis in the right middle lobe developed in our second case.

Herein we present a 25-year-old female patient who was admitted with recurrent hemoptysis in menstrual period. At the thorax computed tomography taken during menstruation of patient, diffuse ground glass density and acinar nodules at superior segment of lower lobe at left lung were detected. There was no this findings at the thorax tomography taken in non-menstruation period. Therefore, patient was considered catamenial hemoptysis with clinical and radiological findings. Pulmonary endometriosis is rarely seen disease of the lung, so we are presenting it in the light of the literature knowledge.

Morbidity and mortality is high in patients with gunshot wounds to the chest. Only in rare cases do foreign bodies persist in the thorax without significant pathology. At this study, we present a case in which steel shot was removed through the mediastinum using mediastinoscopy due to the risk of tracheal fistula.

Isolated spontaneous common carotid artery (CCA) dissection is rare. So far, surgical or medical treatment have only been reported in a few cases in the literature. We report a 39-year-old man, diagnosed as isolated spontaneous CCA dissection one year ago, who experienced a new minor stroke despite medical treatment. Because of the presence of new ischemic lesions on new magnetic resonance imaging despite medical treatment, and critical narrowing of internal carotid artery (ICA) orifice with jet and turbulence flow pattern at the bulbar portion of the ICA, endovascular management was performed with carotid stent deployment. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of spontaneous isolated CCA dissection treated with stenting of the carotid artery reported in literature. - ÖZET - İzole spontan common carotid arter (CCA) diseksiyonu nadirdir. Literatürde sadece birkaç adet, medikal veya cerrahi tedavi uygulanan, CCA diseksiyonu olgusu bildirilmiştir. Bildirimizde, bir yıl önce izole spontan CCA diseksiyonu tanısı almış ve medikal tedavi altında iken yeni minor strok geçiren 39 yaşında erkek olguyu sunuyoruz. Olgunun yeni magnetik rezonans görüntülemesinde (MRG), sol posterior frontal ve pariyetal loblarda yeni iskemik lezyonların ortaya çıktığı görüldü. Renkli Doppler ultrasonografi (RDUS) incelemesinde eski incelemesine gore darlığın arttığı izlendi. Karotis anjiografide de internal karotis arter başlangıcında jet ve türbülans akıma neden olan kritik darlık saptanması üzerine endovasküler tedavi planlandı. Femoral girişimle koruyucu filtre kullanılarak self ekspandıbl stent yerleştirildi ve postdilatasyon balon uygulandı. Işlemden 24 saat sonra alınan difüzyon MRG incelemesinde yeni iskemik alan görülmedi. Birinci ve 3. ay kontrollerinde, nörolojik muayenesinde yeni bulgu saptanmadı. RDUS incelemelerinde stentin açık olduğu görüldü. Karotis artere stent yerleştirimesi cerrahiye alternatif bir tedavi olup daha az invazivdir. Stent uygulaması, spontan ve travmatik internal karotis arter darlıklarında kullanılmış, ancak izole spontan CCA diseksiyonunda kullanılmamıştır. Olgumuz nadir görülen izole spontan CCA diseksiyonu olgularından biri olup stent yerleştirilerek tedavi edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, medikal tedaviye rağmen tekrarlayan semptomları olan izole spontan CCA diseksiyonu olgularda tromboemboli kaynağının kontrol altına alınması ve yeterli karotis akımının sağlanması için stent yerleştirilmesi gerekebilir.
