The article presents a study on the safety and efficiency of emamectin benzoate for the treatment of Anguillicoloides crassus infections in American eels. The study used 54 eels which were randomly divided into one group of 24 eels and two groups of 15 eels each to receive varying treatments of emamectin benzoate. Results show that single administration of the chemical is safe for the subjects and is enough to kill A. crassus in the infected eels' swim bladder.

Abstract: Hepatitis E (HEV) is an emerging disease in our developed countries, but is not routinely tested for in case of liver cytolysis. However, a growing number of extra-hepatic manifestations of HEV infection associated with acute hepatitis are reported. In this article, we discuss two cases of HEV with neurological symptoms, one with encephalitis, and the other with Parsonage Turner syndrome. All these disorders appeared concomitantly with liver cytolysis and disappeared quickly, following the viral kinetics. Only twenty cases of neurological manifestation of HEV have been described before. The use of HEV serology in patients with concurrent liver cytolysis and neurological symptoms has to be improved. The European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus), common in rural and suburban environments, is perceived as declining within its native range, prompting conservation concerns. This study of hedgehogs admitted to a French rehabilitation center aimed to identify causes of death, detect potential emerging diseases, and systematically screen dead hedgehogs for toxicants and hemopathogens. Using clinical information, necropsy examination, and ancillary testing in 159 dead hedgehogs, we identified the primary cause of death of 92% of them. The leading causes of death were impaired general condition (30%); bacterial infections (26%), frequently caused by Salmonella Enteritidis; and trauma (20%). Additional factors contributing to death were identified in 78%, including a high proportion with significant parasite infestations. Toxicologic screening revealed that 42% of hedgehogs had been exposed to anticoagulant rodenticides, including 6.4% hedgehogs with levels compatible with acute intoxication. These hedgehogs were also exposed to trace metals, especially lead, but no pesticides residues were detected. Hemopathogen screening revealed a low diversity and prevalence of blood pathogens with 3.6, 2.9, and 2.9% individuals infected with Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Mycoplasma turicensis, and Mycoplasma wenyonii, respectively. The variety of diagnoses suggests that there is no unique prominent or emerging disease responsible for the mortality of these hedgehogs. This study also highlighted the high exposure of hedgehogs to various toxicants. Background: Nirsevimab, a long-acting monoclonal antibody, has been approved for the prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection in infants. In France, more than 210 000 single doses were administered in infants younger than 1 year during the 2023-24 season. In this context, the selection and spread of escape variants might be a concern. Here, we aimed to characterise RSV associated with breakthrough infection., Methods: We did a multicentre, national, observational study in France during the 2023-24 RSV season in RSV-infected infants (aged <1 year) who either received or did not receive a dose of nirsevimab before their first RSV season. We excluded infants with insufficient information about nirsevimab treatment or without parental consent. We used respiratory samples collected in each laboratory for full-length RSV RNA sequencing to analyse changes in the nirsevimab binding site Ø. We tested clinical RSV isolates for neutralisation by nirsevimab. We analysed F candidate substitutions by fusion-inhibition assay., Findings: Of the 695 RSV infected infants, we analysed 545 (78%) full-length RSV genome sequences: 260 (48%) from nirsevimab-treated breakthrough infections (236 [91%] RSV-A and 24 [9%] RSV-B) and 285 (52%) from untreated RSV-infected infants (236 [83%] RSV-A and 49 [17%] RSV-B). Analysis of RSV-A did not reveal any substitution in site Ø known to be associated with resistance to nirsevimab. Two (8%) of 24 RSV-B breakthrough infections had resistance-associated substitutions: F:N208D (dominant resistance-associated substitution) and a newly described F:I64M plus F:K65R combination (minority resistance-associated substitution), both of which induced high levels of resistance in the fusion-inhibition assay., Interpretation: This study is, to the best of our knowledge, the largest genotypic and phenotypic surveillance study of nirsevimab breakthrough infections to date. Nirsevimab breakthrough variants remain very rare despite the drug's widespread use. Carcasses of endangered beluga whales Delphinapterus leucas from the St. Lawrence Estuary, Canada, have been examined consistently since 1983 to determine causes of death. The objective of this study is to compare the nutritional condition of belugas that died of different causes. Previously published categories of death were refined to discriminate acute from chronic pathological processes. Bayesian linear models were used to predict cause of death from the scaled mass index (SMI). Causes of death were as follows: 'bacterial diseases', 'verminous pneumonia', 'toxoplasmosis', 'other parasitic diseases', 'other infectious diseases', 'trauma-entrapment', 'other noninfectious diseases', 'dystocia-postpartum complications', 'neonatal mortality', 'cancer', 'primary starvation' and 'undetermined'. The models predicted a lower nutritional condition for the 'neonatal mortality' in belugas <290 cm in length and for 'primary starvation' and 'verminous pneumonia' categories for belugas ≥290 cm. Belugas that died from 'dystocia-postpartum complications' or from 'undetermined causes' had a higher-than-average SMI. Animals in the 'trauma-entrapment' category did not exhibit the highest nutritional condition, which was unexpected since individuals that died from trauma or entrapment are often used as references for optimal nutritional condition in other cetacean populations. Females that died from dystocia and postpartum complications were in similar nutritional condition as females dead from other causes during, or shortly after, pregnancy. This suggests that these females are not obese, ruling out a possible cause of dystocia. Although studying dead animals biases results toward low nutritional condition, our findings support the link between chronic pathological processes and poorer nutritional condition in belugas.

Biochemical and hematological analyses are important for the assessment of animal health. However, for most wild species their use is hindered by the scarcity of reliable reference intervals. Indeed, collecting body fluids (e.g., blood, urine) in free-ranging animals is often technically challenging. Further, sampling many individuals would be essential to consider major sources of variations, such as species, populations, sex, age, and seasons. One alternative, according to the reduction, refinement, and replacement framework, is to establish reference intervals a posteriori using literature survey and unpublished data. We produced reference intervals for free-ranging Hermann's tortoises (Testudo hermanni), using analyses performed on blood samples collected in previous studies and conservation programs conducted in the field between 2010 and 2016 in southern France (n=195 individuals). Thirteen parameters were analyzed: packed-cell volume, blood concentrations of corticosterone, testosterone, glycemia, cholesterol, triglyceride, urea, uric acid, calcium, sodium, potassium, asparagine aminotransferase (AST), and alanine aminotransferases (ALT). Reference intervals for subgroups defined by sex and season were relevant for corticosterone, triglyceride, and calcium (sex) and cholesterol (season). Comparing our results with those obtained in captive individuals in Germany, except for urea and AST levels the intervals from both free-ranging versus captive tortoises were similar, suggesting that reference intervals established from captive individuals may be suitable for free-ranging populations in this species., (© Wildlife Disease Association 2024.)

Objective: Coagulation tests are an essential tool in the diagnosis and management of coagulopathies in mammals. The aim of the current study was to establish reference intervals for prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial PT (aPTT) in healthy ferrets using 2 different point-of-care analyzers (Idexx Coag DX and MS QuickVet Coag Combo)., Animals: 86 clinically healthy ferrets under 3 years of age (47 females and 39 males) from 4 breeders and 2 private practices., Procedures: Blood samples were collected from the cranial vena cava in all ferrets without anesthesia and placed in trisodium 3.2% citrated plastic tubes. Sixty-six blood samples from the 4 ferret breeding farms and 1 private practice were analyzed using the Idexx Coag DX and 21 from the other private practice using the MS QuickVet Coag Combo., Results: Reference intervals for the Idexx Coag DX were as follows: aPTT (n = 65), 69.84 to 105.99 seconds; PT (65), 14.44 to 21.98 seconds. Reference intervals for the MS QuickVet Coag Combo were as follows: aPTT (n = 21), 74.90 to 115.50 seconds; PT (21), 18.31 to 23.05 seconds. With both types of analyzers, there was no significant age effect on aPTT and PT., Clinical Relevance: This study provided coagulation times for 2 point-of-care analyzers in healthy ferrets as a tool for the diagnosis of coagulopathies.

Real-time PCR plays a key role in the diagnosis of viral infections. Multiple kits can detect or quantify genomes of various viruses with the same thermocycling program. Detection of RNA viruses includes an additional step of reverse transcription and challenge their detection in a single run with DNA viruses. We investigated the analytical performance of HSV-1, HSV-2 and VZV DNA quantification with Altona RealStar® PCR kits using the RT-PCR program for RNA viruses instead of the PCR program for DNA viruses. For each three viruses, Bland-Altman distribution did not show differences between both programs, and quantification curves generated with both thermocycling programs confirmed high correlation (R 2  ≥ 0.9983). Detection of low viral load samples was evaluated, on 10-times repeat-test. All replicate samples were detected with both thermocycling programs and were quantified at similar viral loads (bias in log 10 copies/mL: +0.05 (HSV-1), -0.01 (HSV-2) and +0.25 (VZV)). PREDIMED, Clinical Data Warehouse of Grenoble Alps University Hospital, is currently participating in daily COVID-19 epidemic follow-up via spatial and chronological analysis of geographical maps. This monitoring is aimed for cluster detection and vulnerable population discovery. Our real-time geographical representations allow us to track the epidemic both inside and outside the hospital.

Background: A multimodal strategy to prevent nosocomial influenza was implemented in 2015-2016 in Grenoble Alpes University Hospital. Three modalities were implemented in all units: promotion of vaccination among healthcare workers, epidemiologic surveillance and communication campaigns. Units receiving a high number of patients with influenza implemented 2 additional modalities: improvement of diagnosis capacities and systematic surgical mask use. The main objective was to assess the effectiveness of the strategy for reducing the risk of nosocomial influenza., Methods: A study was conducted retrospectively investigating 5 epidemic seasons (2014-2015 to 2018-2019) including all patients hospitalized with a positive influenza test at Grenoble Alpes University Hospital. The weekly number of nosocomial influenza cases was analyzed by Poisson regression and incidence rate ratios (IRR) were estimated., Results: A total of 1540 patients, resulting in 1559 stays, were included. There was no significant difference between the 5 influenza epidemic seasons in the units implementing only 3 measures. In the units implementing the 5 measures, there was a reduction of nosocomial influenza over the seasons when the strategy was implemented compared to the 2014-2015 epidemic season (IRR = 0.56, 95% CI = 0.23-1.34 in 2015-2016; IRR = 0.39, 95% CI = 0.19-0.81 in 2016-2017; IRR = 0.50, 95% CI = 0.24-1.03 in 2017-2018; IRR = 0.48, 95% CI = 0.23-0.97 in 2018-2019)., Conclusions: Our data mainly suggested that the application of the strategy with 5 modalities, including systematic surgical mask use and rapid diagnosis, seemed to reduce by half the risk of nosocomial influenza. Background: Large inrush of patients through Emergency Department during influenza season can be dramatic. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of an emergency preventive strategy, namely admission of patients with influenza in multiple-bed room with patients free from influenza, on the occurrence of hospital-acquired influenza (HAI)., Methods: When a patient with an influenza RT-PCR diagnosis was hospitalized in a multiple-bed room, the emergency preventive strategy was applied: selection of non-immunocompromised neighbor, implementation of physical barriers (rigid screen pulled between beds, surgical mask for healthcare workers and visitors), preemptive Oseltamivir therapy for the neighbor., Results: From 29/11/2017 to 10/05/2018 a total of 464 hospitalized influenza patients were included; 318 were placed in multiple-bed room and 141 in single room. Emergency preventive strategy was correctly applied for 75.1% of patients in multiple-bed room. A total of 8 exposed neighbors matched HAI definition despite strategy. 7 were already exposed to the case before the set-up of the strategy. Only one case of documented transmission of influenza occurred after application of an incorrect emergency preventive strategy: preventive posology of Oseltamivir was not correct., Conclusions: These preliminary results suggest that the occurrence of HAI in multiple-bed rooms can be limited by the implementation of maximum precautions and urge us to promote further evaluation of the strategy. A 72-year-old immunocompromised man infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 received bamlanivimab monotherapy. Viral evolution was monitored in nasopharyngeal and blood samples by melting curve analysis of single-nucleotide polymorphisms and whole-genome sequencing. Rapid emergence of spike receptor binding domain mutations was found, associated with a compartmentalization of viral populations.

Robust antigen point-of-care SARS-CoV-2 tests have been proposed as an efficient tool to address the COVID-19 pandemic. This requirement was raised after acknowledging the constraints that are brought by molecular biology. However, worldwide markets have been flooded with cheap and potentially underperforming lateral flow assays. Herein we retrospectively compared the overall performance of five qualitative rapid antigen SARS-CoV-2 assays and one quantitative automated test on 239 clinical swabs. While the overall sensitivity and specificity are relatively similar for all tests, concordance with molecular based methods varies, ranging from 75,7% to 83,3% among evaluated tests. Sensitivity is greatly improved when considering patients with higher viral excretion (Ct≤33), proving that antigen tests accurately distinguish infectious patients from viral shedding. These results should be taken into consideration by clinicians involved in patient triage and management, as well as by national authorities in public health strategies and for mass campaign approaches., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Female dogs, especially intact or neutered lately, are at increased risk for reproductive disorders including mammary tumors (MTs). This retrospective study evaluated the prevalence of reproductive pathology and associated mortality in a cohort of female dogs presented at a single veterinary clinic. The medical records of female dogs born in 2000-2003 were reviewed. The study included 599 cases, of which 293 were followed up until death. Causes of death were analyzed according to the spaying status. Among the 599 female dogs, 306 were intact (51%), 50 (8%) had been spayed before 2 years of age (ES, early spaying), and 243 (41%) after 2 years (LS, late spaying). During their lifetime, 79 dogs (13.2%) developed pyometra, and 160 (26.7%) a mammary tumor. Among the 293 dogs with complete follow-up, 103 (35.1%) had at least one MT during their lifetime, of which 53 (51.5%) died of their mammary cancer. Spayed (ES + LS) female dogs had a 4-fold decreased risk of dying from mammary cancer (OR = 0.23, 95% CI 0.11-0.47, p < 0.0001) compared to intact females. In this low-sterilization rate population, MTs developed in 35.1% of female dogs over their lifetime and was the cause of death in half of them.

A 14-year-old unsexed African grey parrot ( Psittacus erithacus erithacus ) was presented with a 12-hour history of neurological signs and vomiting. The external physical examination of the patient revealed lethargy, moderate hypothermia, a head tilt, and horizontal nystagmus. Whole-body radiographic imaging and blood biochemistry parameters were unremarkable, and a serological test to detect bornavirus was negative. A computed tomography scan of the bird revealed a large cystic lesion located on the fourth ventricle of the brain. In spite of treatment (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotic and antiparasitic therapy), the parrot's health continued to decline, and it was euthanatized 12 days after presentation. A complete postmortem examination was performed on the patient's brain. Histopathological interpretation of tissues submitted described a large neoformation composed of cells arranged in perivascular pseudorosettes. Hyperchromatic nuclei and marked anisokaryosis were suggestive of a malignant tumor. The tissue mass was associated with significant dilation of the fourth ventricle and a severe peripheral gliosis. The histopathological diagnosis of the neoformation was an ependymoma. Ependymomas are glial tumors of the ependymal cells that line the central canal and the ventricles of the brain and are rarely described in mammals. In birds, ependymomas were only described in budgerigars ( Melopsittacus undulatus ). In human medicine, the recommended treatment is surgical removal of the tumor when possible, followed by radiotherapy.

Domestic ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) are common zoologic companion animals and display specific body language and vocalizations. Social interactions, play behavior, and resting periods are important keystone in domestic ferret behavior. Specific housing and environmental enrichment are recommended to preserve the expression of normal behavior and physiology in ferrets. Presence of abnormal behaviors, including aggression, urination and defecation outside the litter box, stereotypies, and absence of play behavior, should be carefully monitored by veterinarians and ferret owners to assess ferret wellness. Introduction: Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection has been reported to be associated with neurological disorders. However, the real prevalence of acute hepatitis E in those diseases is still unknown. We determined the prevalence of anti-HEV IgM antibody in a population with acute non-traumatic, non-metabolic, non-vascular neurological injury., Method: A registry was created in Grenoble Hospital University from 2014 to 2018 to collect data on patients with acute (<3 months) non-traumatic, non-metabolic, non-vascular neurological injuries. Acute hepatitis E was defined as anti-HEV IgM-positive serum in immunocompetent patient, and as anti-HEV IgM-positive serum or HEV RNA-positive serum in immunocompromised patients., Results: One hundred fifty-nine patients were included. Anti-HEV IgM seroprevalence in our cohort of non-traumatic, non-metabolic, non-vascular neurological injuries was 6.9% (eleven patients, including 4 Parsonage-Turner syndrome (PTS) and 2 Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS)). Elevated transaminases were observed in only 64% of hepatitis E patients and cholestasis in 64%., Conclusion: In this study, 6·9% of patients with acute non-traumatic, non-metabolic, non-vascular neurological injuries had a probable recent HEV infection. Analgesia and adaptations of the environment are indicated in cases of renal disease associated with painful joints. In recent years, outbreaks caused by multi-host pathogens (MHP) have posed a serious challenge to public and animal health authorities. The frequent implication of wildlife in such disease systems and a lack of guidelines for mitigating these diseases within wild animal populations partially explain why the outbreaks are particularly challenging. To face these challenges, the French Ministry of Agriculture launched a multi-disciplinary group of experts that set out to discuss the main wildlife specific concepts in the management of MHP disease outbreaks and how to integrate wildlife in the disease management process.This position paper structures the primary specific concepts of wildlife disease management, as identified by the working group. It is designed to lay out these concepts for a wide audience of public and/or animal health officers who are not necessarily familiar with wildlife diseases. The group's discussions generated a possible roadmap for the management of MHP diseases. This roadmap is presented as a cycle for which the main successive step are: step 1-descriptive studies and monitoring; step 2-risk assessment; step 3-management goals; step 4-management actions and step 5-assessment of the management plan. In order to help choose the most adapted management actions for all involved epidemiological units, we integrated a decision-making framework (presented as a spreadsheet). This tool and the corresponding guidelines for disease management are designed to be used by public and health authorities when facing MHP disease outbreaks. These proposals are meant as an initial step towards a harmonized transboundary outbreak response framework that integrates current scientific understanding adapted to practical intervention.

Study Objective: To investigate the performance of a rapid RT-PCR assay to detect influenza A/B at emergency department admission., Methods: This single-center prospective study recruited adult patients attending the emergency department for influenza-like illness. Triage nurses performed nasopharyngeal swab samples and ran rapid RT-PCR assays using a dedicated device (cobas Liat, Roche Diagnostics, Meylan, France) located at triage. The same swab sample was also analyzed in the department of virology using conventional RT-PCR techniques. Patients were included 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week. The primary outcome was the diagnostic accuracy of the rapid RT-PCR assay performed at triage., Results: A total of 187 patients were included over 11 days in January 2018. Median age was 70 years (interquartile range 44 to 84) and 95 (51%) were male. Nine (5%) assays had to be repeated due to failure of the first assay. The sensitivity of the rapid RT-PCR assay performed at triage was 0.98 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.91-1.00) and the specificity was 0.99 (95% CI: 0.94-1.00). A total of 92 (49%) assays were performed at night-time or during the weekend. The preoperative contouring of plates decreases the duration of surgery and improves the quality of the reduction of pelvic fractures. Patient-tailored three-dimensionally printed pelvises might be an interesting tool for achieving that purpose. Currently, no study has evaluated the accuracy of measurements performed on three-dimensional printed models in comparison with computed tomography data for complex bones, such as the pelvis. This study examined whether the measurements obtained on pelvises printed using dual-material fused deposition modeling technology are not significantly different from those obtained on computed tomography images. The computed tomography images of the pelvic region from 10 dogs were used to produce three-dimensionally printed models with a dual-material fused deposition-modeling process. Four segments were measured on both three-dimensionally printed models and computed tomography images. The measurements were performed by three observers and repeated twice. Concordance correlation coefficients were used to assess the precision and accuracy of the measurements as well as evaluate the agreement between the methods. The accuracy of measurements between the methods was > 0.99 for all measurements. The precision was almost perfect for AE (0.996), substantial for BD and BC (0.963 and 0.958, respectively), and moderate for CD (0.912). The determination of body condition is a fundamental component of an evaluation during postmortem examinations of cetaceans. Three veterinarians experienced in beluga postmortem techniques subjectively evaluated 62 carcasses of beluga whales ( Delphinapterus leucas) in duplicate, using a visual analog scale. The result of evaluation and scoring was repeatable in cachectic animals and animals in very good condition but did not capture the continuum of body condition determinations between the obvious visual conditions.

Introduction: Presence of anti-E1E2 antibodies was previously associated with spontaneous cure of hepatitis C virus (HCV) and predictive before treatment of a sustained virological response (SVR) to bi- or tri-therapy in naïve or experienced patients, regardless of HCV genotype. We investigated the impact of anti-E1E2 seroprevalence at baseline on treatment response in patients receiving direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy., Material and Methods: We screened anti-E1E2 antibodies by ELISA in serum samples collected at treatment initiation for two groups of patients: 59 with SVR at the end of DAA treatment and 44 relapsers after DAA treatment. Nineteen patients received a combination of ribavirin (RBV) or PEG-interferon/ribavirin with sofosbuvir or daclatasvir and others received interferon-free treatment with DAA±RBV. HCV viral load was measured at different time points during treatment in a subgroup of patients., Results: A significant association was observed between presence of anti-E1E2 and HCV viral load<6log10 prior treatment. Among patients with anti-E1E2 at baseline, 70% achieved SVR whereas among patients without anti-E1E2, only 45% achieved SVR. Conversely, 66% of patients experiencing DAA-failure were anti-E1E2 negative at baseline. In the multivariate analysis, presence of anti-E1E2 was significantly associated with SVR after adjustment on potential cofounders such as age, sex, fibrosis stage, prior HCV treatment and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level., Conclusions: The presence of anti-E1E2 at treatment initiation is a predictive factor of SVR among patients treated with DAA and more likely among patients with low initial HCV viral load (<6log10). The use of new Direct Acting Antivirals, specific of HCV, has greatly improved the HCV treatment. Most of the DAA are specific of HCV genotypes. Genotyping methods may target different regions of the HCV genome, though only the whole genome sequencing could confirm the correct genotype. The present study describes the virological investigation of a treatment failure due to the false identification of an unusual 2k/1b recombinant HCV form. Direct-acting antiviral (DAA) drug performances depend on the viral genotype. So international recommendations give typing of the virus a prerequisite for treatment choice and patient management. Commercially available HCV genotyping kits are scarce and this analysis is often in-house using tedious PCRs and Sanger sequencing, leading to a lack of standardization. A newly commercialized HCV genotyping assay based on real-time PCR has been developed by Roche Diagnostics (Mannheim, Germany). We compared this new assay with our in-house PCRs -sequencing technique on 101 regular samples and 81 LiPA failures or low viral load samples. No genotype or 1a/1b subtype mismatch was observed. Two samples were misidentified at the subtype level without clinical impact. Three genotype 1b and two genotype 1a samples with low viral load could not be subtyped. Nevertheless, 13 (13%) samples from the regular panel and 35 (43%) from the more difficult-to-type panels failed to give results on first pass with the Roche kit. Failures were mostly associated with genotype 3 subtype a, with genotype 4 subtype non-a, or with viral loads <200 IU/mL (p = 0.0061). The workflow allowed a non-specialized technician to obtain results in less than 4 hours whereas 2 to 3 days and experienced staff were required with the in-house assay. In conclusion, the Roche cobas® HCV GT kit is easy and rapid to use and provides reliable results. The high rate of uninterpretable results particularly for low viral load samples and less frequent genotypes, and the absence of subtyping for non-genotype 1 could require sending complex samples to a specialized laboratory.

Background: Recent data have suggested that failure to achieve sustained virological response with direct-acting antiviral therapy is usually due to relapse and is primarily associated with the emergence of resistance-associated substitutions. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and characterization of non-structural-5A resistance-associated substitutions in patients infected with HCV genotypes 1, 3 and 4 treated by direct-acting antiviral therapy, including anti-non-structural-5A, and to characterize the pre-existing resistance-associated substitutions in subjects treated with anti-non-structural-5A inhibitors., Methods: From January 2014 to March 2016, 2,995 patients infected with HCV genotypes 1, 3 and 4 were exposed to non-structural-5A inhibitors. Sequencing results at the time of virological failure were available for 61 patients; sequencing at baseline was available for 35 of these patients., Results: Among the 35 patients with sequencing results available at baseline, 15 had no resistance-associated substitution, 16 had only one resistance-associated substitution, and 4 had more than one resistance-associated substitution. Resistance-associated substitutions were harbored in 57% of the sequences in the non-structural-5A region. Among the 61 patients sequenced at virological failure, 50 (82%) patients presented at least one resistance-associated substitutions inducing a high level of resistance to non-structural-5A inhibitors (>10-fold resistance)., Conclusions: This pooled analysis suggests that non-structural-5A resistance-associated substitutions screening should be recommended when considering retreatment with a non-structural-5A inhibitor regimen in patients who have previously experienced failed non-structural-5A treatment.
