A green library, or a sustainable library, enables us to collaborate with nature to fulfill some of our fundamental needs. This concept fosters a harmonious relationship between our community and the environment; green libraries, in essence, serve as examples for reconnecting with the beauty of the natural world. The purpose of this article is to delve into the practical challenges associated with transitioning a conventional library into a green one, as well as strategies for improvements. It explores topics such as the green library's historical background, its significance in environmental conservation, the librarian's role within it, ongoing green library projects, and initiatives promoting ecofriendly libraries, particularly focusing on India's efforts in this regard. Managing a green library poses several challenges. Firstly, the transformation process involves architectural redesign, incurring construction costs if an existing library is to be converted. Establishing a green library from scratch entails substantial initial expenses. Moreover, daily maintenance is crucial, necessitating proper employee training and ongoing efforts. Maintenance costs and the allocation of manpower are also essential considerations. Furthermore, this article examines the roles of key initiatives such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Sustainable Development Goals (UNESCO), the IFLA Green Library Award, the Green Building Council of India, and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) in advancing sustainable practices within library settings. Literary awards—understood here as formal, collective, and public declarations of aesthetic excellence—have been criticized for perpetuating structural inequities that harm oppressed authors and readers. However, the library as an institution continues to participate in prizing through a system of interlocking norms and conventional practices that we term "library reprizing." We track reprizing through its various manifestations in collection development, classification, and readers' advisory service. We posit that reprizing is not merely a way of informing patrons of award winners but is part of a coordinated response that aids materially in the creation of award winners. Given that prizing sustains dominant structures of power in print culture, we suggest that one route to reform may lie in librarians' capacity to be strategically uncooperative regarding awards. The purpose of this study is to propose effective plans for Anyang municipal library to use online media in preparation for the post-covid-19 era. For this purpose, the main implications were summarized by analyzing the operation cases of 5 excellent libraries that received government awards in the libraries' operation evaluation in 2021. And based on the analysis, strategies that can help Anyang municipal library use online media to operate library effectively even after COVID-19 were derived. This study is meaningful in that it is an empirical study that summarizes the online media usage strategy of the Anyang municipal library in preparation for the post-COVID-19 era based on actual cases of excellent libraries in the COVID-19 period. Canadian School Libraries has announced two new initiatives in honor of Donald Hamilton, a leader in the field of school libraries and teacher-librarianship. The Donald Hamilton School Library Advocacy Fund will provide grants to groups or organizations promoting school libraries and programs, while the Donald Hamilton School Library Advocacy Award will be presented bi-annually to individuals or groups who have successfully advocated for school libraries. Public libraries serve as anchors for thousands of communities across the United States. Innovations are critical for the survival and relevance of public libraries in the country. Few studies, if any, identify the best practices for managing innovations in public libraries based on the experiential guidance shared by administrators of public libraries that are recognized for their innovations. This empirical study fills in the gap by identifying the challenges and solutions for managing innovations in public libraries in the USA. A thematic content analysis of qualitative responses collected through an online anonymous survey of 219 administrators of 211 innovations in 106 urban public libraries awarded for their innovations revealed 30 unique challenges to planning and implementing innovations and an equal number of solutions, which were then organized into five clusters: strategy, finance, organizational behavior, human resource management, and communication. Administrators and staff in public libraries need to develop competencies in these five areas to better manage innovations in the future. Other public libraries can learn, apply, and benefit from these best practices. Harold M. Leich's outstanding service as a Slavic librarian from 1969 to 2019 earned him the Distinguished Service Award of the Committee on Libraries and Information Resources, delivered during the 2019 annual convention of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES). He began as a cataloger at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where six years later he was promoted to Librarian for Slavic and East European Acquisitions. From 1987 until retirement he served at the Library of Congress as Russian Area Specialist. For his last 20 years there he also served as the specialist for Modern Greek. He assisted Dr. James H. Billington, the Librarian of Congress and noted scholar of Russia, with many projects. Over his career, Leich produced more than 50 publications, mostly concerning Russian materials, but also on Modern Greek collections as well as on book matters relating to other countries. The Access and Resource Sharing Department (ARS) project team, in a library at a large research–intensive university, was awarded a libraries' strategic opportunities grant in August 2019 to create and test the efficiency of a mobile scanning cart, and expedite a new scanning workflow and procedure for electronic document delivery and lending. The mobile station includes an overhead portable book scanner, a height adjustable cart, a rechargeable battery pack, a laptop computer and other accessories. This scan-beside-the-stacks initiative eliminates duplicate workflow and procedures, reduces human error of re-shelving, improves operational efficiency, improves electronic document delivery and electronic lending turnaround time, and saves staff time and library money. This initiative minimizes the duration that print collections are taken off the shelf, thus assuring patron access to library collections. This mobile station may be the only such scan-beside-the-stacks methodology in use in U.S. academic libraries. This technology also allows a single employee to handle all items to complete the digital conversion of print materials and reduces the risk of coronavirus transfer between library staff members during the COVID-19 pandemic. The world is facing the unprecedented consequences of climate change, where the terms pollution, e-waste, and depletion of natural resources has become a part of our daily lives. Libraries of the 21st century have the potential to play the leadership role and address the issue of environmental sustainability by developing green libraries. The aim of the paper is to provide a holistic approach and understanding to the concept of green libraries. The article has categorised four major measures and practices to help develop a green library: (1) by having a green design and interior, (2) by incorporating green practices in day-to-day operations of libraries, (3) green collection development and literacy programmes, and (4) adopting emerging innovative and smart technologies that can be integrated into the functioning of libraries. Significant findings of previous literature on the status of green libraries in India and the impact of green libraries in energy reduction are also discussed. The paper analyses the LEED and GRIHA green-building rating system, green library initiatives undertaken in India, and the objectives of the IFLA Green Library Award. The article gives an insight into the strategic green library practices adopted by Rangsit University, winner of the IFLA Green Library Award 2020, and the contribution of a green library in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030. This paper aims at analysing the policy and legal framework of joint study programmes in Eastern Partnership countries (EaP countries) in frames of the standards of the European Higher Education Area and providing the recommendations on its enhancement. It is concluded that the internationalization of higher education has been considered as one of the critical priorities of the educational policy in EaP countries. However, more emphasis on the role of joint study programmes is needed. The level of specification of legislative requirements on joint study programmes in EaP countries differs. The educational laws in Georgia, Moldova include special provisions devoted to joint study programmes, in Ukraine - basic framework, including the possibility to establish joint study programmes and awarding the joint degrees, while respective legislation in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Belarus - just general provisions regarding the international cooperation of higher educational institutions. It is suggested to implement the European Approach for Quality Assurance of Joint Programmes in national laws and regulations in EaP countries, first of all, in part of the definition of joint study programmes and the recognition of the accreditation decisions of foreign quality assurance agencies. To honor Stephen, the academy changed the name of its Essentials of Public Administration Program to the Stephen L. Schechter Essentials of Public Service and Leadership Program. Stephen L. Schechter (1945-2022) passed away on July 18, 2022. Stephen was a wonderful colleague in many summer institutes for U.S. K-12 teachers hosted by the Center for the Study of Federalism and funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities as well as the Center's summer institutes for young international scholars funded by the U.S. Department of State. Purpose: The purpose of the research is to find out whether library premises have an influence on the study quality, or whether upon moving to new premises, conditions for students have changed or improved. With the construction of a new building of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Maribor (MF UM) at the Tabor embankment in 2013, the MF UM Library acquired new premises with a total area of 682 m², including central space with a separate quiet reading room, numerous study seats, a computer corner, library issue desk, additional library collections and office for the head librarian. Prior to moving, the MF UM operated in rented premises at Slomškov trg 15 with the Library in one room with an area of 80 m². Since the MF UM establishment, the University of Maribor Library (UML) has complemented its collection in the field of medicine with additional copies of study material, as well as with the Collection of models of human body organs available to students in the Study room for anatomy and with BIOMED collection for preclinical literature. Methodology/approach: We compared students' activities during research studies in the field of medicine prior to and posterior to moving. By survey questionnaire, we have studied and analysed the use of the MF UM Library and the UML premises. Results: In the premises of the new MF UM building, where the space intended for library activities has been enlarged and improved, the number of submitted written assignments for the Dean's Award and the number of students' publications (and we must also point out the number of students' scientific publications and their participation at congresses and conferences) has also increased significantly. The quality of library premises, such as they are in the new MF UM building, contributes positively to more qualitative work of students and employees. Research limitation: The limitation of the research is the time because already several generations of students have been bound only to the new MF UM building and to UML. That is why we assumed less data on the former location of the MF UM Library. Since we were unable to gather data from the members of the MF UM Alumni Club, we did not undertake in-depth statistical analyses. Originality/practical implications: With the obtained results, we wish to complement and improve library user experiences of the UM students.
