Queer Criminology is a newfound area of exploration within the discipline of Criminology, which is uniquely positioned to deal with issues regarding crime and victimisation concerning those from the LGBTQIA+ community and gender diverse/minoritized groups. The field of "Queer Criminology" has become vast and expanding, having explored issues of interpersonal, structural and systematic inequality concerning those from the community and beyond. To this end, narratives of victimisation, trauma and injustice have dominated (and limited) understandings of Queer Criminology. Moreover, limited thinking has been attributed within the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL), which seeks to understand LGBTQIA+ individuals and groups-beyond binarized thinking of victimhood or criminalised. In this article, we offer the perspectives of two higher education professionals teaching Queer Criminology in a "flipped" classroom environment, which positions the learner as expert within the subject matter and utilises a relational pedagogy lens to do so. We discuss the use of our reflexive practice, as both Feminist Decolonial and Queer Criminologists. The article touches upon trauma informed approaches to teaching Queer Criminology. This study investigated plasma and bone concentrations of moxifloxacin following a single intravenous dose of 400mg to consider its potential role in the treatment of osteomyelitis. Eight patients who underwent routine cardiopulmonary bypass surgery were enrolled in the study. Plasma and bone samples were collected 2h and 5h after the end of infusion. High performance liquid chromatography was used for the determination of moxifloxacin concentrations. Mean plasma concentrations were 3.36 microg/mL and 2.93 microg/mL at 2h and 5h after the end of infusion. The concentrations in the body and manubrium of the sternal bone were 1.65 microg/g and 1.64 microg/g at 2h and 1.4 microg/g and 1.45 microg/g at 5h, respectively. Moxifloxacin showed good penetration into bone and could be considered for the treatment of osteomyelitis.

Objective: Determine the prevalence of Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) colonizing the intestinal tract of hospitalized patients and define risk factors., Material and Methods: A point prevalence survey of VRE fecal carriage was carried out among patients who stayed at a 600-bed teaching hospital for at least two days. Resistance to vancomycin was detected by the E-test method. Epidemiological data was recorded for all patients included in the study and was used for the risk factor analysis., Results: A total of 128 patients hospitalized for at least two days were enrolled in this investigation. Thirty-nine patients (30.5%) were colonized with vancomycin-resistant enterococci. Twenty-three of the 39 strains were identified as Enterococcus faecium, 13 were identified as Enterococcus gallinarum and three strains as Enterococcus casseliflavus. The risk factors that were significantly associated with VRE colonization included length of hospital stay (13.2 days vs. 8.6 days), age (60.7 years vs. 47.7 years) and the presence of underlying malignancies (28.2% vs. 11.2%). An association was found between VRE colonization and the use of antimicrobials with anaerobic activity, such as metronidazole, piperacillin/tazobactam and imipenem. The use of vancomycin was associated with VRE colonization in the intensive care unit., Conclusions: VRE colonization must be monitored, and risk factors should be determined, because they are useful for screening hospitalized patients for VRE colonization in order to establish prevention and control measures.

The activity of linezolid in comparison to vancomycin, teicoplanin, oxacillin, clindamycin and gentamicin was tested against 60 strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, 60 strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis isolated from patients with nosocomial infections and 24 strains of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium isolated from feces of hospitalized patients. Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs) were determined by the Epsilometer test method. All tested strains were sensitive to linezolid and specifically all methicillin-resistant S. aureus had MIC range 0.25-3.00, MIC50 = 0.75, MIC90 = 1.5, all methicillin-resistant S. epidermidis had MIC range 0.125-1.5, MIC50 = 0.5, MIC90 = 1 and all vancomycin-resistant E. faecium had MIC range 0.5-1.5, MIC50 = 1, MIC90 = 1. Linezolid is the first of a novel antimicrobial class, the oxazolidinones, which is a promising treatment for serious Gram-positive infections, including multiresistant strains.

Staphylococcus aureus strains resistant to a variety of antimicrobial agents are often found in the hospital environment and are responsible for many life-threatening infections. The activity of quinupristin/dalfopristin against 84 Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream isolates (both methicillin resistant and methicillin sensitive) was compared to the activity of vancomycin, teicoplanin, erythromycin, oxacillin, clindamycin, gentamicin, rifampicin. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations of these agents was evaluated with the Epsilometer Test. Quinupristin/dalfopristin inhibited all methicillin-sensitive strains at 1mg/L, and 75% of methicillin-resistant strains at 1.5mg/L. According to these results, quinupristin-dalfopristin shows promising in-vitro activity and may be a welcome alternative treatment for methicillin-resistant staphylococcal infections, resulting in reduced use of glycopeptides.
