Context. Photometric redshifts for galaxies hosting an accreting supermassive black hole in their center, known as active galactic nuclei (AGNs), are notoriously challenging. At present, they are most optimally computed via spectral energy distribution (SED) fittings, assuming that deep photometry for many wavelengths is available. However, for AGNs detected from all-sky surveys, the photometry is limited and provided by a range of instruments and studies. This makes the task of homogenizing the data challenging, presenting a dramatic drawback for the millions of AGNs that wide surveys such as SRG/eROSITA are poised to detect. Aims. This work aims to compute reliable photometric redshifts for X-ray-detected AGNs using only one dataset that covers a large area: The tenth data release of the Imaging Legacy Survey (LS10) for DESI. LS10 provides deep grizW1-W4 forced photometry within various apertures over the footprint of the eROSITA-DE survey, which avoids issues related to the cross-calibration of surveys. Methods. We present the results from CIRCLEZ, a machine-learning algorithm based on a fully connected neural network. CIRCLEZ is built on a training sample of 14 000 X-ray-detected AGNs and utilizes multi-Aperture photometry, mapping the light distribution of the sources. Results. The accuracy (ÏÃ Â NMAD) and the fraction of outliers (η) reached in a test sample of 2913 AGNs are equal to 0.067 and 11.6%, respectively. The results are comparable to (or even better than) what was previously obtained for the same field, but with much less effort in this instance. We further tested the stability of the results by computing the photometric redshifts for the sources detected in CSC2 and Chandra-COSMOS Legacy, reaching a comparable accuracy as in eFEDS when limiting the magnitude of the counterparts to the depth of LS10. Conclusions. The method can be applied to fainter samples of AGNs using deeper optical data from future surveys (for example, LSST, Euclid), granting LS10-like information on the light distribution beyond the morphological type. Along with this paper, we have released an updated version of the photometric redshifts (including errors and probability distribution functions) for eROSITA/eFEDS.

BackgroundPatients undergoing percutaneous recanalization of chronically occluded superficial femoral arteries were studied to determine which factors correlated with 1-year patency. Immediate change in ankle:brachial index (ABI), length of occlusion, tibial run-off, and the performance of supplemental catheter atherectomy were evaluated.MethodsEligible patients had at least one patient tibial run-off vessel and the absence of limb-threatening ischemia. Recanalization was performed via passage of a guidewire followed by balloon angioplasty. Tibial run-off was scored based on a modification of the angiogram scoring system of the Society for Vascular Surgery and the International Society for Cardiovascular Surgery. Supplemental transcutaneous extraction catheter atherectomy was randomly assigned to a sub-group of patients after initial experience with the recanalization technique. Clinical follow-up was employed to determine patency.ResultsForty-two of 57 attempts (74%) at recanalization were immediately successful. Overall 1-year patency was 40% in 40 limbs that could be followed. In limbs with balloon angioplasty alone (n = 23), patency was 43% compared with 35% in those having supplemental atherectomy. Tibial run-off did not vary significantly between patent and occluded groups. When ABI increased by 0.3 or more, patency was 56% compared with 26% when the ABI increase was less than or equal to 0.1 (P = 0.13). Occlusion length averaged 18.1 +/- 10.6 cm for all limbs and did not vary significantly between early successes and failures. Limbs with short occlusions (less than or equal to 5 cm, n = 8) had 63% patency compared with 38% patency for limbs with long occlusions (greater than 25 cm, n = 16), but the difference was not significant by analysis of variance.ConclusionsAn initial change in ABI was most predictive for patency, whereas no correlation with tibial run-off was demonstrated. Atherectomy did not increase patency. Short occlusions were more likely to remain patent than long ones, but overall patency was lower than described in other series.

A 512K-bit nonvolatile magneto resistive memory with a switched-capacitor self-referencing sensing scheme is reported. This memory is economical since it requires only one mask beyond a typical CMOS process and has rad hard, scalable and no wear-out properties. This memory has a cell size of 2.8 X 10 [mu] [m.sup.2], logic buried under its cells, and a 0.3 cm die. It is useful for disk caches and for replacing plated wire memories in aerospace applications., A 512K-bit nonvolatile random access memory configured in a two-dimensional array is presented. The magneto resistive device employs switched capacitor circuits to implement a self-referencing, differential mechanism. Simulations of a prototype realized via a 0.8-micrometer complementary metal oxide semiconductorprocess indicate a read time of 700 ns and a write time of 70 ns per byte with wearout occuring after the sense current is raised above three mA.

Background: The ongoing changes in learning and education towards digitalisation have been rapidly accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Especially in dental education where contact to the oral cavity is an integral part of training the chosen digital examination methods and training formats must undergo high requirements to full fill the goal of a real alternative to face-to-face exams. Therefore, this study compared student performance in a newly developed Tele-OSCE with a prior OSCE examinations in presence within an oral- and maxillofacial surgery curriculum. Methods: Study participants were fourth-year (in a five year curriculum) dental students and board certified maxillofacial surgeons (examiners) that took part in a newly developed Tele-OSCE that comprised three five-minute stations (structured facial examination, management mandibular fracture and squamous cell carcinoma) using the zoom® software. Student performance was measured using validated OSCE-Checklists and compared to a previous OSCE examination from the winter term 2019 with the same OSCE stations that was conducted in presence. Significant differences were tested using the Mann-Whitney U test. Furthermore, the new Tele-OSCE was evaluated by students and examiners using previously developed questionnaires.Results: Sixty-six dental students (study group: n=34, summer term 2021, control group: n=32 winter term 2019) and nine examiners participated in the study. Compared to previous non-pandemic OSCEs, there were no significant (p=0.53) differences in overall student performance. Evaluation of the Tele-OSCE showed that the demonstration and rating of practical skills was limited due to missing standard patients or phantoms, however, students did not fear to be misjudged. The demonstration and rating of anamnestic and consultation competencies was seen as unproblematic by students and examiners. Discussion: This pilot-study showed the feasibility of a Tele-OSCE as a formative examination in dental education. However, both students and examiners felt that the demonstration and assessment of practical skills was limited due the new examination format. Nevertheless, Tele-OSCEs might offer an alternative to enable students to complete their dental training.

People have a stake in conservation and environmental management both for their own interests and the sake of the environment itself. Environmental decision-making has changed somewhat in recent decades to account for unintentional impacts on human wellbeing. The involvement of stakeholders in environmental projects has been recognised as critical for ensuring their success and equally for the syntheses of evidence of what works, where, and for whom, providing key benefits and challenges. As a result of increased interest in systematic reviews of complex management issues, there is a need for guidance in best practices for stakeholder engagement. Here, we propose a framework for stakeholder engagement in systematic reviews/systematic maps, highlighting recommendations and advice that are critical for effective, efficient and meaningful engagement of stakeholders. The discussion herein aims to provide a toolbox of stakeholder engagement activities, whilst also recommending approaches from stakeholder engagement research that may prove to be particularly useful for systematic reviews and systematic maps. In the course of the climate change and increased focus on CO2-neutral energy sources, the use of wood-driven small heating systems (SHS) becomes more important. But, their contribution to air pollution, especially particulate matter, is about as high as the emissions from car engines. The specific formation of harmful substances in wood fires and possible countermeasures by continuously operating sensor and control systems are covered. Impedance spectra of interdigital electrode (IDE) structures are taken before and after mounting in wooddriven SHS to get information about the particles in the exhaust stream. It appears that the capacitive parts of the impedance spectra at a fixed frequency are appropriate for a fast signal evaluation. The good correlation with established offline measuring methods is discussed and the capability of thermal regeneration is demonstrated. The offline measurements of this work shall give the experimental basis for the development of online measurements in order to control the particle emissions of wood-driven SHS. This paper presents recent advances and future challenges of the application of different linear and nonlinear inversion algorithms in acoustics, electromagnetics, and elastodynamics. The presented material can be understood as an extension of our previous work on this topic. The inversion methods considered in this presentation vary from linear schemes, like the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) applied electromagnetics and the Synthetic Aperture Focussing Technique (SAFT) as its counterpart in ultrasonics, and the linearized Diffraction Tomography (DT), to nonlinear schemes, like the Contrast Source Inversion (CSI) combined with different regularization approaches. Inversion results of the above mentioned inversion schemes are presented and compared for instance for time-domain ultrasonic data from the Fraunhofer-Institute for Nondestructive Testing (IZFP, Saarbrcüken, Germany). Convenient tools for nondestructive evaluation of solids can be electromagnetic and/or elastodynamic waves; since their governing equations, including acoustics, exhibit strong structural similarities, the same inversion concepts apply. In particular, the heuristic SAFT algorithm can be and has been utilized for all kinds of waves, once a scalar approximation can be justified. Relating SAFT to inverse scattering in terms of diffraction tomography, it turns out that linearization is the most stringent inherent approximation. A comparison of the inversion results using the linear time-domain inversion scheme SAFT and well tested nonlinear frequency-domain inversion schemes demonstrates the considerable potential to extend and improve the ultrasonic imaging technique SAFT while consulting the mathematics of wavefield inversion, yet, in particular if the underlying effort is considered, the relatively simple and effective SAFT algorithm works surprisingly well. Since SAFT is a widely accepted imaging tool in ultrasonic NDE it seems worthwhile to check its formal restrictions and assumptions whether they could be overcome and whether they would outperform the standard and original SAFT algorithm. Laser excitation of metal clusters depends on various parameters such as frequency, intensity, and pulse time. We give here an overview of relevant time scales and forces for the example of Na clusters. Variation of laser intensity is studied in connection with second harmonic generation. We see a rather sudden transition from a perturbative regime at low intensities to a field-dominated regime for larger intensities. We use the non-linearized time-dependent local density approximation (TDLDA), together with a local pseudopotential for the interaction of the valence electrons with the ions. Explicit ionic motion is taken into account in one test case where we demonstrate the importance of ionic effects for the detailed time evolution at times larger than 100 fs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The stabilities of the industrial chemical and constituent of cigarette smoke 2- nitropropane (2-NP) and its aci tautomer propane 2-nitronate (P2N) towards hepatic enzymes and proteins such as serum proteins and oxyhaemoglobin were investigated in vitro in biological (hepatocytes and subcellular liver fractions) and model systems (serum proteins, oxyhaemoglobin, methylene blue). 2. Denitrification of 2-NP, P2N and 2-deutero 2-nitropropane ( H-NP) occurred in murine hepatocytes significantly faster thanin ratcells.For 2-NPthe rates were 1271 167 versus 820 125 pmol nitrite min 10 cells . 3. A similar observation was made in microsomes, where 2-NP denitrification was 1460 110 (mouse) versus 480 80 pmol nitrite min mg protein (rat). 4. The major NO-forming activity was found to be localized in the microsomal fraction. 5. Conversionof 2-NP into P2N, either chemically or enzymatically,was a prerequisite for rapid denitrification. 6. Serum proteins and oxyhaemoglobin proved to be capable of denitrifying P2N (198 24 pmol nitrite min mg protein and 7 1 1 0 nmol nitrite min nmol HbO respectively), but were much less active towards 2-NP (24 2 pmol nitrite min mg protein and none respectively). 7. Methylene blue decomposed 2-NP and P2N at rates of 11 3 and 192 4 pmol nitrite min nmol methylene blue respectively. The dye also enhanced NO formation from P2N and 2-NP in the presence of hepatocytes or serum proteins, with a concomitant enhancement of both 2-NP and P2N toxicity. 8. The results presented report species differences in the denitrification rate of 2-NP and highlight the crucial nitro-aci tautomerism of 2-NP as a pivotal determinant of 2-NP toxicity.
