As the most important way to mitigate climate change, forest carbon storage has been the subject of extensive research. A comprehensive study was carried out to investigate the influence of elevation gradients and diameter classes on the forest growth, composition, diversity, and carbon pools of the Bagh Drush Khel Forest area. Research revealed that elevation gradients significantly influenced the composition, diversity, and carbon pools in forests. At lower elevations, Eucalyptus camaldulensis was the dominant species, with Olea ferruginea as a co-dominant species, whereas at higher elevations, Pinus roxburghii was the dominant species with Quercus incana as a co-dominant species. Regeneration was higher at higher elevations with the maximum number of saplings and seedlings of P. roxburghii. Species diversity association with elevation was negative (R2 = −0.44; p < 0.05—Shannon Index). Soil organic carbon (SOC association with elevation was non-significant while positive with DBH classes (R2 = 0.37; p < 0.05). Overall, carbon pool association with elevation and diameter at breast height (DBH) were negative (R2 = −0.73; p < 0.05) and (R2 = −0.45; p < 0.05). Litter biomass correlated positively with elevation (R2 = 0.25; p < 0.05) and DBH (R2 = 0.11; p < 0.05), while deadwood biomass correlated negatively with elevation gradients (R2 = −0.25; p < 0.05), and no effect was observed for DBH classes. The highest carbon stock (845.89 t C/ha) was calculated at low elevations, which decreased to (516.27 t C/ha) at high elevations. The overall carbon stock calculated was (2016.41 t C/ha) respectively. A total of six tree species were found at the study site. Future research is essential for forest health monitoring and understanding fine-scale impacts. During the ripening of litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) fruit, anthocyanin biosynthesis is crucial in providing vibrant coloring. Previous studies on anthocyanin-related transcription factors have made significant discoveries relating to plants. However, the role of the SQUAMOSA promoter-binding protein-like (SPL) transcription factors in anthocyanin biosynthesis has rarely been studied in litchi. SPL genes are widely involved in the developmental mechanisms of plants. In this study, a total of 17 SPL genes have been identified from the litchi genome. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that these genes were divided into eight groups (Group I-VIII). Analysis of gene structure conserved domains, conserved motifs, and miR156 target prediction showed that LcSPLs were highly conserved during evolution. RNA-seq analysis of litchi revealed that six LcSPL genes have a role in regulating anthocyanin biosynthesis. Further, weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) revealed LcSPL7's role in anthocyanin synthesis and chlorophyll degradation in litchi fruit ripening. These findings collectively suggest that the LcSPL gene family plays an essential role in anthocyanin biosynthesis in litchi pericarp. Background: Anastomotic leak after esophagectomy carries important short- and long-term sequelae. The authors conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine its association with surgical volume. Materials and methods: A systematic literature review was performed to identify all studies reporting on anastomotic leak after esophagectomy. Studies with less than 100 cases were excluded. The primary outcome was postesophagectomy anastomotic leak, while secondary outcomes were operative mortality overall and after anastomotic leak. Pooled event rates (PER) were calculated, and the association with annual esophagectomy volume by center was investigated. Results: Of the 3932 retrieved articles, 472 were included (n= 177 566 patients). The PER of anastomotic leak was 8.91% [95% CI =8.32; 9.53%]. The PER of early mortality overall and after an anastomotic leak was 2.49% [95% CI =2.27; 2.74] and 11.39% [95% CI=9.66; 13.39], respectively. Centers with less than 37 annual esophagectomies had a higher leak rate compared to those with greater than or equal to 37 annual esophagectomies (9.58% vs. 8.34%; P= 0.040). On meta-regression, surgical volume was inversely associated with the PER of esophageal leak and of early mortality. Conclusions: The frequency of anastomotic leaks after esophagectomy, perioperative, and leak associated mortality are inversely associated with esophagectomy volume. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article is a systematic review of randomized controlled trials comparing the effectiveness and safety of two diuretics, torsemide and furosemide, in heart failure patients. The review included 9 trials with a total of 3928 patients. The results showed no significant difference in mortality, hospitalization, cardiac mortality, and adverse events between the two diuretics. Poultry industry is confronted to different hurdles which are blamed for the decline in the nutrients supplements for humans. One of the hurdles is the oxidative stress, which is responsible for the reduction of gut morphology and growth performance in the poultry birds. The present study was performed to explore the impact of inorganic selenium (sodium selenite). Day old chicks were kept in a control environment. At day 7, five groups were made with four replicas in each group based on the diet being offered. Group A, the positive control group fed with normal basal diet group B was termed as negative control group offered basal diet + dexamethasone and group C, D and E was offered 0.2mg/kg, 0.3mg/kg, and 0.4mg/kg of basal diet, respectively. The trial lasted for 35-days and on the last day two chickens from each replicate were slaughtered (a cumulatively eight chickens from each group). Samples from different regions (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum) of the small intestine were collected and kept in the fixatives. Slices from each part were stained with H and E stain to make it fit for microscopy. Picture were taken with different magnifications, i.e., 4X, 10X and 40X and histo-morphometry was done through Pixel-Pro (Labomed America Inc). The statistical analysis was through IBM SPSS (Statistics.V22.X86). The present study concluded that selenium improves the intestinal morphology i.e. villus height, villus width, villus surface area showed better growth(P=0.05) in the selenium supplemented groups. The FCR initially did not differ (P=0.05) among the groups but toward the end it was comparatively better (P=0.05) in selenium supplemented groups. The relative body weight of different organs i-e liver, gizzard, heart, pancreas, and proventriculus etc. showed significant (P=0.05) results in each of selenium-supplemented groups. The coconut palm (Cocos nucifera L.) is a perennial, cross-pollinated, oil-bearing tropical forest tree. Recently, the demand for coconut goods has surged to 5 to 10 times its former value; however, coconut production is in jeopardy. Coconut senility is one of the most apparent factors that influence productivity. Adequate replanting is urgently required to maintain the growing demand for coconut products. However, coconut palm mass replanting might not be possible with traditional approaches. To overcome this snag, micropropagation via somatic embryogenesis (SE) has enormous potential for proficient clonal propagation in the coconut palm. During SE, the stimulation of cell proliferation, acquisition of embryogenic cell competence, and induction of somatic embryos undergo a series of developmental events. This phenomenon requires regulation in gene expression patterns and the activation of specific signaling pathways. This review summarizes gene regulatory mechanisms involved in the cell cycle, dedifferentiation, totipotency, embryo initiation, and meristem development during somatic embryo formation. Determining which traits allow species to live at higher elevations is essential to understanding the forces that shape montane biodiversity.For the many animals that rely on flight for locomotion, a long‐standing hypothesis is that species with relatively large wings should better persist in high‐elevation environments because wings that are large relative to the body generate more lift and decrease the aerobic costs of remaining aloft. Although these biomechanical and physiological predictions have received some support in birds, other flying taxa often possess smaller wings at high elevations or no wings at all.To test if predictions about the requirements for relative wing size at high elevations are generalizable beyond birds, we conducted macroecological analyses on the altitudinal characteristics of 302 Nearctic dragonfly species.Consistent with the biomechanical and aerobic hypotheses, species with relatively larger wings live at higher elevations and have wider elevation breadths—even after controlling for a species' body size, mean thermal conditions, and range size. Moreover, a species' relative wing size had nearly as large of an impact on its maximum elevation as being adapted to the cold.Relatively large wings may be essential to high‐elevation life in species that completely depend on flight for locomotion, like dragonflies or birds. With climate change forcing taxa to disperse upslope, our findings further suggest that relatively large wings could be a requirement for completely volant taxa to persist in montane habitats. Intelligence has been used for many applications such as medical, communication, object detection, and object tracking. Maize crop, which is the major crop in the world, is affected by several types of diseases which lower its yield and affect the quality. This paper focuses on this issue and provides an application for the detection and classification of diseases in maize crop using deep learning models. In addition to this, the developed application also returns the segmented images of affected leaves and thus enables us to track the disease spots on each leaf. For this purpose, a dataset of three maize crop diseases named Blight, Sugarcane Mosaic virus, and Leaf Spot is collected from the University Research Farm Koont, PMAS-AAUR at different growth stages on contrasting weather conditions. This data was used for training different prediction models including YOLOv3-tiny, YOLOv4, YOLOv5s, YOLOv7s, and YOLOv8n and the reported prediction accuracy was 69.40%, 97.50%, 88.23%, 93.30%, and 99.04% respectively. Results demonstrate that the prediction accuracy of the YOLOv8n model is higher than the other applied models. This model has shown excellent results while localizing the affected area of the leaf accurately with a higher confidence score. YOLOv8n is the latest model used for the detection of diseases as compared to the other approaches in the available literature. Also, worked on sugarcane mosaic virus using deep learning models has also been reported for the first time. Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) is the highest oil-yielding commercially grown perennial tree. Oil palm germplasm conservation and in vitro clonal propagation strengthened the world's efforts to ensure future food security. Cryopreservation provides long-term storage for germplasm. The storage of plant material at cryogenic temperatures (−196 °C) following dehydration causes cryoinjury. The cryotolerance mechanism has rarely been studied in oil palm zygotic embryos (ZE) and embryogenic calli (EC). A simple and effective cryopreservation method was established for ZE. ZE surrounded by endosperm was air-dried for 3 days without any complicated chemical pre-treatments before cryopreservation, while the viability rate and following germination rate could reach up to 96.67% and 90.88%, respectively. As for EC, the preferred method could be pre-culture in liquid MS medium with 0.3 M sucrose for 12 h and PVS2 treatment for 5 min prior to cryopreservation, and the viability rate reached 68.33%. SSR markers were used to verify the genetic stability after cryopreservation. In addition, changes in enzyme activities (CAT, POD, and SOD) showed a consistent trend with H2O2 production among ZE samples, indicating that these antioxidants were involved in ROS scavenging. Furthermore, differently expressed genes (DEGs) related to ROS, osmotic, and cold stress responses were selected for correlation network analysis. Most genes involved in ROS production (RBOH, PAO, and PRX) and ROS scavenging (APX, PER, SOD, CAT, GPX, and AOX) showed higher expression levels in EC, suggesting that EC was more sensitive to oxidative stress than ZE. The cryotolerance mechanism was further summarized accordingly. These results contributed to cryopreservation methods and provided a better understanding of cryotolerance in oil palm. Background & Method: The aim of present study is to study the role of Multi detector computed Tomography in the evaluation of colorectal lesions with histopathological correlation. In this study, patients with wall thickening involving the colon and rectum on CT were included. CT was performed using Idohexol contrast medium. All patients were placed in the supine position on the CT table, and a rectal tube was inserted. Room air was gently insufflated into the colon get adequate colonic distension. CT acquisitions were performed in the arterial phase (start delay of 25-35 seconds) and in the portal venous phase (start delay of 50- 70 seconds) with a section width of 5 mm. when wall thickening is identified, it is characterized using the following criteria. Result: Of the 50 patients with colorectal lesions on CT, 40 lesions (80%) were diagnosed as malignant and 10 lesions (20%) were diagnosed as benign on histopathology. Of the 50 patients with colorectal lesions on CT, 40 lesions (80%) were diagnosed as malignant and 10 lesions (20%) were diagnosed as benign on histopathology. Conclusion: MDCT is an excellent modality in the diagnosis and differentiation of benign and malignant lesions of the colon and rectum, since it has the advantage of providing thinner sections, faster acquisition and multi planar reformatted images. The variability in soil properties and crop yield can be overcome by adoption of smart farming practices through interpolation and mapping of spatial variability patterns. Geospatial technologies can be utilized to determine the cause of spatial variability in fields for site-specific application of fertilizer. This study was designed to quantify and identify the spatial variation in soil properties and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) yield and to delineate prescription maps for precise application of fertilizer in a semi-arid subtropical region of Pakistan. To examine the variability in soil properties on the production of the considered crop, this study comprised two different fields and each field was divided into (20 × 20 m) grids. The samples of soil were collected at 15 cm and 30 cm soil depths before the fertilization to analyze the different soil characteristics i.e., nitrogen (N), electrical conductivity (EC), potassium (K), soil organic matter (SOM), phosphorus (P), and pH. The boundaries of selected fields and grid points were established with a real-time kinematics-global positioning system (RTK-GPS). The soil data were acquired with a soil proximal sensor at a depth of 7 cm after fertilization. The statistical analysis coefficient of variation (CV), geostatistical-analysis-nugget-to-sill ratio (N:S), and the interpolated maps (ArcGIS pro 2.3) were used to characterize the least to moderate variability of soil parameters and yield, demanding site-specific management of fertilizer application. Cluster analysis was conducted using Minitab 21, which classified soil and yield characteristics into five categories: "very good", "very low", "good", "poor", and "medium", with an external heterogeneity and internal homogeneity both more than 60%. Significant relationships (p < 0.05) between soil and crop properties were used to develop the management zones (MZs) for the precise application of fertilizer in wheat fields. Significant differences (p < 0.05) in soil nutrients were found in the very high and very low productivity zones at both sampling times, which suggest delineating the MZs for precise application of fertilizer according to the need of crop and soil properties. The results revealed that the optimum number of MZs for the wheat fields was five and there was heterogeneity in the soil nutrients in five MZs. The findings of this study also highlight the necessity of predicting the crop and soil factors by using precision technologies to develop the prescription maps, because sampling and analysis of soil are expensive and time-consuming.
