This study investigated the enhancing effects of soil treatment with ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) and oxalic acid (OA) on the remediation of Cr(VI) contaminated soil by Datura stramonium L. A greenhouse pot experiment was conducted, where Cr(VI) contaminated soil was treated with 100 mg/kg Cr(VI) and varying concentrations of EDTA (5 and 10 mmol/kg) and OA (5 and 10 mmol/kg). The effects of these soil treatments on biomass, chlorophyll content, antioxidant enzyme activities, and Cr(VI) enrichment and translocation efficiency of D. stramonium were evaluated. The results showed that added OA to soil significantly increased the biomass and chlorophyll content of D. stramonium. The addition of 10 mmol/kg of OA to soil increased the plant biomass by 67.16 % and chlorophyll b content by 40.01 %. In addition, OA soil treatment significantly enhanced the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) by 6.36 %, peroxidase (POD) by 163.13 %, catalase (CAT) by 36.92 %, and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) by 32.12 %, which effectively alleviated the oxidative stress induced by Cr(VI). In contrast, soil treatment with a high concentration of EDTA (10 mmol/kg) significantly reduced plant biomass and chlorophyll content, although it increased the biological concentration factor (BCF) of the stem and leaf, as well as the translocation factor (TF). In conclusion, appropriate amounts of EDTA and OA added to soil can enhance the phytoremediation efficiency of D. stramonium grown in Cr(VI) contaminated soil, with OA added to soil being more effective than addition of EDTA. This study revealed the potential mechanisms of chelating agents EDTA and OA in enhancing the phytoremediation of Cr(VI) contaminated soil by D. stramonium, providing a scientific basis for further optimization of phytoremediation techniques.

Crude oil pollution of soil is an important issue that has serious effects on both the environment and human health. Phytoremediation is a promising approach to cleaning up oil-contaminated soil. In order to facilitate phytoremediation effects for oil-contaminated soil, this study set up a pot experiment to explore the co-application potentiality of Tagetes erecta L. with two other methods: microbial agent and biochar. Results showed that the greatest total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) biodegradation (76.60%) occurred in the soil treated with T. erecta, a microbial agent, and biochar; the highest biomass and root activity also occurred in this treatment.GC-MS analysis showed that petroleum hydrocarbon components in the range from C10 to C40 all reduced in different treatments, and intermediate-chain alkanes were preferred by our bioremediation methods. Compared with the treatments with biochar, the chlorophyll fluorescence parameter NPQ_Lss and plant antioxidant enzyme activities significantly decreased in the treatments applied with the microbial agent, while soil enzyme activities, especially oxidoreductase activities, significantly increased. Although the correlation between biochar and most plant growth and soil enzyme activity indicators was not significant in this study, the interaction effect analysis found a synergistic effect between microbial agents and biochar. Overall, this study suggests the co-addition of microbial agents and biochar as an excellent method to improve the phytoremediation effects of oil-contaminated soil and enhances our understanding of the inner mechanism.

Oil pollution is a common type of soil organic pollution that is harmful to the ecosystem. Bioremediation, particularly microbe-assisted phytoremediation of oil-contaminated soil, has become a research hotspot in recent years. In order to explore more appropriate bioremediation strategies for soil oil contamination and the mechanism of remediation, we compared the remediation effects of three plants when applied in combination with a microbial agent and biochar. The combined remediation approach of Tagetes erecta, microbial agent, and biochar exhibited the best plant growth and the highest total petroleum hydrocarbons degradation efficiency (76.60%). In addition, all of the remediation methods provided varying degrees of restoration of carbon and nitrogen contents of soils. High-throughput sequencing found that microbial community diversity and richness were enhanced in most restored soils. Some soil microorganisms associated with oil degradation and plant growth promotion such as Cavicella, C1_B045, Sphingomonas, MND1, Bacillus and Ramlibacter were identified in this study, among which Bacillus was the major component in the microbial agent. Bacillus was positively correlated with all soil remediation indicators tested and was substantially enriched in the rhizosphere of T. erecta. Functional gene prediction of the soil bacterial community based on the KEGG database revealed that pathways of carbohydrate metabolism and amino acid metabolism were up-regulated during remediation of oil-contaminated soils. This study provides a potential method for efficient remediation of oil-contaminated soils and thoroughly examines the biochar–bacteria–plant combined remediation mechanisms of oil-contaminated soil, as well as the combined effects from the perspective of soil bacterial communities.

Abstract Metal halide perovskites have shown great promise as a potential candidate for next-generation solid state lighting and display technologies. However, a generic organic ligand-free and antisolvent-free solution method to fabricate highly efficient full-color perovskite light-emitting diodes has not been realized. Herein, by utilizing porous alumina membranes with ultra-small pore size as templates, we have successfully fabricated crystalline all-inorganic perovskite quantum wire arrays with ultrahigh density and excellent uniformity, using a generic organic ligand-free and anti-solvent-free solution method. The quantum confinement effect, in conjunction with the high light out-coupling efficiency, results in high photoluminescence quantum yield for blue, sky-blue, green and pure-red perovskite quantum wires arrays. Consequently, blue, sky-blue, green and pure-red LED devices with spectrally stable electroluminescence have been successfully fabricated, demonstrating external quantum efficiencies of 12.41%, 16.49%, 26.09% and 9.97%, respectively, after introducing a dual-functional small molecule, which serves as surface passivation and hole transporting layer, and a halide vacancy healing agent.

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) occupy a pivotal role in the intricate pathogenesis of the autoimmune disorder, Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Since our previous work demonstrated that trichosanthin (TCS), an active compound of Chinese herb medicine Tian Hua Fen, regulated immune response, we aimed to clarify the efficacy and molecular mechanism of TCS in the treatment of T1DM. To this end, T1DM mouse model was established by streptozotocin (STZ) induction. The mice were randomly divided into normal control group (Ctl), T1DM group (STZ), TCS treated diabetic group (STZ + TCS) and insulin-treated diabetic group (STZ + insulin). Our comprehensive evaluation encompassed variables such as blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, body weight, pertinent biochemical markers, pancreatic histopathology, and the distribution of immune cell populations. Furthermore, we meticulously isolated MDSCs from the bone marrow of T1DM mice, probing into the expressions of genes pertaining to the advanced glycation end product receptor (RAGE)/NF-κB signaling pathway through RT-qPCR. Evidently, TCS exhibited a substantial capacity to effectively counteract the T1DM-induced elevation in random blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, and IL-6 levels in plasma. Pathological scrutiny underscored the ability of TCS to mitigate the damage incurred by islets. Intriguingly, TCS interventions engendered a reduction in the proportion of MDSCs within the bone marrow, particularly within the IL-6+ MDSC subset. In contrast, IL-10+ MDSCs exhibited an elevation following TCS treatment. Moreover, we observed a significant down-regulation of relative mRNA of pro-inflammatory genes, including arginase 1 (Arg1), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), RAGE and NF-κB, within MDSCs due to the influence of TCS. It decreases total MDSCs and regulates the balance between IL-6+ and IL-10+ MDSCs thus alleviating the symptoms of T1DM. TCS also down-regulates the RAGE/NF-κB signaling pathway, making it a promising alternative therapeutic treatment for T1DM. Collectively, our study offered novel insights into the underlying mechanism by which TCS serves as a promising therapeutic intervention for T1DM.

ObjectivesInitial precipitating injury (IPI) such as febrile convulsion and intracranial infection will increase the susceptibility to epilepsy. It is still unknown if the functional deficits differ between mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with IPI (mTLE-IPI) and without IPI (mTLE-NO).MethodsWe recruited 25 mTLE-IPI patients, 35 mTLE-NO patients and 33 healthy controls (HC). Static regional homogeneity (sReHo) and dynamic regional homogeneity (dReHo) were then adopted to estimate the alterations of local neuronal activity. One-way analysis of variance was used to analyze the differences between the three groups in sReHo and dReHo. Then the results were utilized as masks for further between-group comparisons. Besides, correlation analyses were carried out to detect the potential relationships between abnormal regional homogeneity indicators and clinical characteristics.ResultsWhen compared with HC, the bilateral thalamus and the visual cortex in mTLE-IPI patients showed an increase in both sReHo and variability of dReHo. Besides, mTLE-IPI patients exhibited decreased sReHo in the right cerebellum crus1/crus2, inferior parietal lobule and temporal neocortex. mTLE-NO patients showed decreased sReHo and variability of dReHo in the bilateral temporal neocortex compared with HC. Increased sReHo and variability of dReHo were found in the bilateral visual cortex when mTLE-IPI patients was compared with mTLE-NO patients, as well as increased variability of dReHo in the left thalamus and decreased sReHo in the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. Additionally, we discovered a negative correlation between the national hospital seizure severity scale testing score and sReHo in the right cerebellum crus1 in mTLE-IPI patients.ConclusionAccording to the aforementioned findings, both mTLE-IPI and mTLE-NO patients had significant anomalies in local neuronal activity, although the functional deficits were much severer in mTLE-IPI patients. The use of sReHo and dReHo may provide a novel insight into the impact of the presence of IPI on the development of mTLE.

IntroductionPlant invasion can profoundly alter ecosystem processes driven by microorganisms. The fundamental mechanisms linking microbial communities, functional genes, and edaphic characteristics in invaded ecosystems are, nevertheless, poorly understood.MethodsHere, soil microbial communities and functions were determined across 22 Amaranthus palmeri (A. palmeri) invaded patches by pairwise 22 native patches located in the Jing-Jin-Ji region of China using high-throughput amplicon sequencing and quantitative microbial element cycling technologies.ResultsAs a result, the composition and structure of rhizosphere soil bacterial communities differed significantly between invasive and native plants according to principal coordinate analysis. A. palmeri soils exhibited higher abundance of Bacteroidetes and Nitrospirae, and lower abundance of Actinobacteria than native soils. Additionally, compared to native rhizosphere soils, A. palmeri harbored a much more complex functional gene network with higher edge numbers, average degree, and average clustering coefficient, as well as lower network distance and diameter. Furthermore, the five keystone taxa identified in A. palmeri rhizosphere soils belonged to the orders of Longimicrobiales, Kineosporiales, Armatimonadales, Rhizobiales and Myxococcales, whereas Sphingomonadales and Gemmatimonadales predominated in the native rhizosphere soils. Moreover, random forest model revealed that keystone taxa were more important indicators of soil functional attributes than edaphic variables in both A. palmeri and native rhizosphere soils. For edaphic variables, only ammonium nitrogen was a significant predictor of soil functional potentials in A. palmeri invaded ecosystems. We also found keystone taxa in A. palmeri rhizosphere soils had strong and positive correlations with functional genes compared to native soils.DiscussionOur study highlighted the importance of keystone taxa as a driver of soil functioning in invaded ecosystem.

Abstract Background Circular RNAs (CircRNAs) are important and have different roles in disease progression. Herein, we aim to elucidate the roles of a novel CircRNA (CircZSWIM6) which is upregulated in ageing chondrocytes. Methods We verified the roles of CircZSWIM6 in senescent and osteoarthritis (OA) development in vitro through CircZSWIM6 knockdown and overexpression. RNA pulldown assay and RNA binding protein immunoprecipitation were performed to identify the interaction between CircZSWIM6 and Ribosomal protein S14 (RPS14). The roles of CircZSWIM6 in ageing‐related OA were also confirmed in non‐traumatic and traumatic model respectively. Results CircZSWIM6 regulates extracellular matrix (ECM) and energy metabolism in ageing chondrocyte. Mechanistically, CircZSWIM6 competitively bound to the E3 ligase STUB1 binding site on RPS14 (K125) to inhibit proteasomal degradation of RPS14 to maintain RPS14 function. CircZSWIM6‐RPS14 axis is highly associated with AMPK signaling transduction, which keeps energy metabolism in chondrocyte. Furthermore, CircZSWIM6 AAV infection leads to senescent and OA phenotypes in a non‐traumatic model and accelerates OA progression in a traumatic model. Conclusion Our results revealed a significant role of CircZSWIM6 in age‐related OA by regulating ECM metabolism and AMPK‐associated energy metabolism. We highlight the CircZSWIM6‐RPS14‐PCK1‐AMPK axis is a potential biomarker for OA.

BackgroundTemporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the most prevalent refractory focal epilepsy and is more likely accompanied by cognitive impairment. The fully understanding of the neuronal activity underlying TLE is of great significance.ObjectiveThis study aimed to comprehensively explore the potential brain activity abnormalities affected by TLE and detect whether the changes were associated with cognition.MethodsSix static intrinsic brain activity (IBA) indicators [amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF), fractional ALFF (fALFF), regional homogeneity (ReHo), degree centrality (DC), global signal correlation (GSCorr), and voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity (VMHC)] and their corresponding dynamic indicators, such as dynamic ALFF (dALFF), dynamic fALFF (dfALFF), dynamic ReHo (dReHo), dynamic DC (dDC), dynamic VMHC (dVMHC), and dynamic GSCorr (dGSCorr), in 57 patients with unilateral TLE and 42 healthy volunteers were compared. Correlation analyses were also performed between these indicators in areas displaying group differences and cognitive function, epilepsy duration, and severity.ResultsMarked overlap was present among the abnormal brain regions detected using various static and dynamic indicators, primarily including increased ALFF/dALFF/fALFF in the bilateral medial temporal lobe and thalamus, decreased ALFF/dALFF/fALFF in the frontal lobe contralateral to the epileptogenic side, decreased fALFF, ReHo, dReHo, DC, dDC, GSCorr, dGSCorr, and VMHC in the temporal neocortex ipsilateral to the epileptogenic foci, decreased dReHo, dDC, dGSCorr, and dVMHC in the occipital lobe, and increased ALFF, fALFF, dfALFF, ReHo, and DC in the supplementary motor area ipsilateral to the epileptogenic foci. Furthermore, most IBA indicators in the abnormal brain region significantly correlated with the duration of epilepsy and several cognitive scale scores (P < 0.05).ConclusionThe combined application of static and dynamic IBA indicators could comprehensively reveal more real abnormal neuronal activity and the impairment and compensatory mechanisms of cognitive function in TLE. Moreover, it might help in the lateralization of epileptogenic foci and exploration of the transmission and inhibition pathways of epileptic activity.

ObjectiveAuditory verbal hallucinations (AVHs) are a major symptom of schizophrenia and are connected with impairments in auditory and speech-related networks. In schizophrenia with AVHs, alterations in resting-state cerebral blood flow (CBF) and functional connectivity have been described. However, the neurovascular coupling alterations specific to first-episode drug-naïve schizophrenia (FES) patients with AVHs remain unknown.MethodsResting-state functional MRI and arterial spin labeling (ASL) was performed on 46 first-episode drug-naïve schizophrenia (FES) patients with AVHs (AVH), 39 FES drug-naïve schizophrenia patients without AVHs (NAVH), and 48 healthy controls (HC). Then we compared the correlation between the CBF and functional connection strength (FCS) of the entire gray matter between the three groups, as well as the CBF/FCS ratio of each voxel. Correlation analyses were performed on significant results between schizophrenia patients and clinical measures scale.ResultsThe CBF/FCS ratio was reduced in the cognitive and emotional brain regions in both the AVH and NAVH groups, primarily in the crus I/II, vermis VI/VII, and cerebellum VI. In the AVH group compared with the HC group, the CBF/FCS ratio was higher in auditory perception and language-processing areas, primarily the left superior and middle temporal gyrus (STG/MTG). The CBF/FCS ratio in the left STG and left MTG positively correlates with the score of the Auditory Hallucination Rating Scale in AVH patients.ConclusionThese findings point to the difference in neurovascular coupling failure between AVH and NAVH patients. The dysfunction of the forward model based on the predictive and computing role of the cerebellum may increase the excitability in the auditory cortex, which may help to understand the neuropathological mechanism of AVHs.

The interaction between invasive plants and soil microbial communities is critical for plant establishment. However, little is known about the assembly and co-occurrence patterns of fungal communities in the rhizosphere soil of Amaranthus palmeri. The soil fungal communities and co-occurrence networks were investigated in 22 invaded patches and 22 native patches using high-throughput Illumina sequencing. Despite having little effect on alpha diversity, plant invasion significantly altered the composition of the soil fungal community (ANOSIM, p < 0.05). Fungal taxa associated with plant invasion were identified using linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe). In the rhizosphere soil of A. palmeri, Basidiomycota was significantly enriched, while Ascomycota and Glomeromycota were significantly reduced when compared to native plants. At the genus level, the invasion of A. palmeri dramatically increased the abundance of beneficial fungi and potential antagonists such as Dioszegia, Tilletiopsis, Colacogloea, and Chaetomium, while it significantly decreased the abundance of pathogenic fungi such as Alternaria and Phaeosphaeria. Plant invasion reduced the average degree and average path length, and increased the modularity value, resulting in a less complex but more effective and stable network. Our findings improved the knowledge of the soil fungal communities, network co-occurrence patterns, and keystone taxa in A. palmeri-invaded ecosystems.

It is well established that epilepsy is characterized by the destruction of the information capacity of brain network and the interference with information processing in regions outside the epileptogenic focus. However, the potential mechanism remains poorly understood. In the current study, we applied a recently proposed approach on the basis of resting-state fMRI data to measure altered local neural dynamics in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE), which represents how long neural information is stored in a local brain area and reflect an ability of information integration. Using resting-state-fMRI data recorded from 36 subjects with mTLE and 36 healthy controls, we calculated the intrinsic neural timescales (INT) of neural signals by summing the positive magnitude of the autocorrelation of the resting-state brain activity. Compared to healthy controls, the INT values were significantly lower in patients in the right orbitofrontal cortices, right insula, and right posterior lobe of cerebellum. Whereas, we observed no statistically significant changes between patients with long- and short-term epilepsy duration or between left-mTLE and right-mTLE. Our study provides distinct insight into the brain abnormalities of mTLE from the perspective of the dynamics of the brain activity, highlighting the significant role of intrinsic timescale in understanding neurophysiological mechanisms. And we postulate that altered intrinsic timescales of neural signals in specific cortical brain areas may be the neurodynamic basis of cognitive impairment and emotional comorbidities in mTLE patients.

Abstract Composite sucker rod has been extensively used due to its high strength, light weight and corrosion resistive nature. However, such composite sucker rod is difficult for conventional non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques to inspect because of its complex material and/or structure. It is thus useful to embark research on developing novel NDE technique to comply the inspection requirement. This work demonstrates the feasibility of using the capacitive imaging (CI) technique for the inspection of composite sucker rod. Finite element (FE) models were constructed in COMSOL to simulate the detection of defects in the glass-fiber layer and on the carbon core surface. An FE Model based inversion method is proposed to obtain the profile of the carbon core. Preliminary CI experimental results are then presented, including the detection of surface wearing defect in the glass-fiber layer, and obtaining the profile of the carbon core. A set of accelerated aging experiments were also carried out and the results indicate that the CI technique is potentially useful in evaluating the ageing status of such composite sucker rod. The CI technique described in this work shows great potential to target some challenging tasks faced in the non-destructive evaluation of composite sucker rod, including quality control, defect detection and ageing assessment.

In the present study, vacuum evaporation method is used to deposit Bi2Se3 film onto Si nanowires (NWs) to form bulk heterojunction for the first time. Its photodetector is self-powered, its detection wavelength ranges from 390 nm to 1700 nm and its responsivity reaches its highest value of 84.3 mA/W at 390 nm. In comparison to other Bi2Se3/Si photodetectors previously reported, its infrared detection length is the second longest and its response speed is the third fastest. Before the fabrication of the photodetector, we optimized the growth parameter of the Bi2Se3 film and the best Bi2Se3 film with atomic steps could finally be achieved. The electrical property measurement conducted by the physical property measurement system (PPMS) showed that the grown Bi2Se3 film was n-type conductive and had unique topological insulator properties, such as a metallic state, weak anti-localization (WAL) and linear magnetic resistance (LMR). Subsequently, we fabricated Si NWs by the metal-assisted chemical etching (MACE) method. The interspace between Si NWs and the height of Si NWs could be tuned by Ag deposition and chemical etching times, respectively. Finally, Si NWs fabricated with the Ag deposition time of 60 s and the etching time of 10 min was covered by the best Bi2Se3 film to be processed for the photodetector. The primary n-Bi2Se3/p-Si NWs photodetector that we fabricated can work in a self-powered mode and it has a broadband detection range and fast response speed, which indicates that it can serve as a promising silicon-based near- and mid-infrared photodetector.

Urban air pollution has received increasing attention in recent years. To investigate the interaction between several heavy metal elements and the degree of atmospheric pollution, the leaves of three evergreen tree species—Chinese juniper (Juniperus chinensis L.), dragon juniper (Juniperus chinensis L. ‘Kaizuca’), and cedar (Cedrus deodara (Roxb. ex D.Don) G.Don)—were collected from main road intersections in the urban area of Tianjin, China. Two different treatments—water washing (WW) and ethanol washing (EW)—were used, and the contents of Cu, Mn, Cd, and Zn were measured in both washed and unwashed (UW) leaves. It was found that the heavy metal contents within Chinese juniper and dragon juniper were ranked as Mn > Zn > Cu > Cd, and the metal accumulation index (MAI) value was higher for dragon juniper. For the three plants, water washed off 5.36% to 58.58% of the total heavy metals in the needles, while ethanol washed off 16.08% to 71.60% of the total. Both washes were more effective for Cu, Zn, and Cd, and especially for the element Cd. Ethanol could clean off 38.64% to 71.60% of the total Cd from the leaves. Ethanol had a better elution effect compared to water, and the trend of the Cd content in the leaves of the three plants showed a change after the use of different washing methods, which suggests that the water washing may have masked the real difference.

As a novel non-destructive testing technique, capacitive imaging (CI) has been used to detect defects within the insulation layer and metal surface of an insulated metallic structure, that is, pipe or vessel. Due to the non-linearity of the probing field, the defects at different depths in the insulation layer are difficult to compare accurately using the conventional CI sensor with a single pair of electrodes. In addition, the conventional CI sensor cannot provide adequate information to discriminate the defects in the insulation layer and metal surface. In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, the multi-electrode sensor is introduced. The multi-electrode sensor uses multiple quasi-static fringing electric fields generated by an array of coplanar electrodes to obtain extra information about the defects in the specimen. In this work, the feasibility of multiple quasi-static electric fields detecting the defects was demonstrated and the Measurement Sensitivity Distributions (MSDs) of the multi-electrode sensor detecting the defects were acquired using the FEM models. The simulation and experimental results show that the Dynamic Change Rates (DCRs) of the measured values obtained at the center of the defects in the insulator layer and metal surface present different variation patterns, which can be used to discriminate these two different kinds of defects. The reasons for the different variation patterns of DCRs were explained by the changing trends of MSDs with increased electrode separation. In addition, it was demonstrated that the different depths of the defects in the insulator layer can be compared accurately by comprehensive analysis of the detection results from all the electrode pairs.

Objectives: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have emerged as significant biological regulators. Herein, we aimed to elucidate the role of an unidentified circRNA (circPDE4B) that is reportedly downregulated in osteoarthritis (OA) tissues.Methods: The effects of circPDE4B were explored in human and mouse chondrocytes in vitro. Specifically, RNA pull-down (RPD)-mass spectrometry analysis (MS), immunoprecipitation, glutathione-S-transferase (GST) pull-down, RNA immunoprecipitation and RPD assays were performed to verify the interactions between circPDE4B and the RIC8 guanine nucleotide exchange factor A (RIC8A)/midline 1 (MID1) complex. A mouse model of OA was also employed to confirm the role of circPDE4B in OA pathogenesis in vivo.Results: circPDE4B regulates chondrocyte cell viability and extracellular matrix metabolism. Mechanistically, FUS RNA binding protein (FUS) was found to promote the splicing of circPDE4B, while downregulation of circPDE4B in OA is partially caused by upstream inhibition of FUS. Moreover, circPDE4B facilitates the association between RIC8A and MID1 by acting as a scaffold to promote RIC8A degradation through proteasomal degradation. Furthermore, ubiquitination of RIC8A at K415 abrogates RIC8A degradation. The circPDE4B-RIC8A axis was observed to play an important role in regulating downstream p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signalling. In order to study the friction and wear properties of surface of PI/5% PTFE 45 steel with filled laser pits immersed in vegetable oil, using a laser welding machine to prepare pit textures on the surface of 45 steel specimens, and a mixture of PI and PTFE powder was filled into the pits. Castor oil, soybean oil and corn oil were used to impregnate the specimen with filled pits, and specimen with filled pits immersed in vegetable oil was prepared. Pin-on-disk wear tests were conducted, and the wear surfaces were observed. Measurements of surface scratch width and depth, friction coefficients, wear amount and surface micro morphology were conducted to characterize the friction and wear properties of surface of the specimen with filled pits immersed in oil. Results showed that, compared to specimen with filled pits, specimen with filled pits immersed in vegetable oil exhibited superior tribological performance. Specifically, compared to specimen with filled pits immersed in corn oil and soybean oil, the wear volume on the surfaces of specimen with filled pits immersed in castor oil decreased by 94.12% and 85.29%, respectively, showing the least amount of surface wear. Compared with soybean oil and corn oil, castor oil has the highest viscosity and saturated fatty acid ratio. Castor oil acid has two polar groups. The above characteristics of castor oil improved the wear resistance and load-bearing capacity of the surface of castor oil immersed specimens. Therefore, the surface of specimens immersed in castor oil exhibited better tribological properties.
