The measurement of the cross section of the reaction 241Am(n,2n)240Am has been performed at neutron energies from 8.8 to 11.1 MeV, implementing the activation technique. The neutron beam was produced at the TANDEM accelerator of NCSR “Demokritos” by the 2H(d,n)3He reaction, using a deuterium gas target. During the 5-day long irradiation, the neutron beam fluctuations were monitored in 100 seconds intervals by a BF3 counter connected with a multiscaling unit. The radioactive target consisted of a 37 GBq 241Am source enclosed in a Pb container. A natural Au foil, a 27Al foil and a 93Nb foil were used as reference materials for the neutron flux determination. After the end of the irradiation the activity induced at the target and the reference foils, was measured off-line by a 56% HPGe detector. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Total reaction cross section measurements for the 6,7Li+ 28Si systems have been performed at near-barrier energies. The results indicate that, with respect to the potential anomaly at barrier, 6Li and 7Li on light targets exhibit similar energy dependence on the imaginary potential. Comparisons are made with 6,7Li cross sections on light and heavy targets, extracted via previous elastic scattering measurements and also with CDCC calculations. Energy dependent parametrisations are also obtained for total reaction cross sections of 6,7Li on Si, as well as on any target, at near barrier energies. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: We have undertaken the study of 6Li breakup on a 28Si target near the Coulomb barrier through an angular distribution measurement. Alpha particles were recorded in coincidence with deuterons in order to determine exclusively the breakup of lithium. According to WHO, dengue virus is classed among major threats for future pandemics and remains at large an unmet medical need as there are currently no relevant antiviral drugs whereas vaccine developments have met with safety concerns, mostly due to secondary infections caused by antibody-dependant-enhancement in cross infections among the four dengue serotypes. This adds extra complexity in dengue antiviral research and has impeded the progress in this field. Following through our previous effort which born the allosteric, dual-mode inhibitor SP-471P (a carbazole derivative, EC 50 1.1 μM, CC 50 100 μM) we performed further optimisation while preserving the two arylamidoxime arms and the bromoaryl domain present in SP-471P. Examination of the relative positions of these functionalities within this three-point pharmacophore ultimately led us to an indolazepinone scaffold and our lead compound SP-1769B.
