Quality of lupin protein is considerably compromised by the presence of anti-nutritional (ANF), such as polyphenols, alkaloids and saponins and anti-technological factors (ATF), like polyphenols and fat. This work explores how high-power ultrasound-assisted (HPU) pretreatment of lupin flour (LF) before protein extraction could affect ANF and ATF content, as well as protein yield and techno-functional properties. LF pretreatments for 3 and 9 min, using water and ethanol–water (1:4 v/v), were carried using conventional mechanical stirring (952 rpm) and HPU (sonotrode, 24 kHz) at 30 and 60 °C. Ultrasonic field was characterized by computing acoustic pressure from frequency spectra analysis.In general terms, pretreatment reduced noticeably ANF and ATF in both LF and protein isolate (LPI), while also producing a protein concentrate (LPC, avg. 65 g protein/100 g) with low ANF and ATF content. Total protein yield, adding LPC and LPI, was increased by 15 % due to the pretreatment, which also enhanced the techno-functional properties of LPI, such as water absorption index (avg. 26 %) and foaming (avg. 8 %) and emulsifying properties (avg. 14 %). But, the efficiency of the pretreatment was largely affected by process variables. In particular, HPU reduced fat (avg. 27 %), saponin (avg. 21 %) and phenolic content (avg. 17 %), as well as antioxidant activity (avg. 11 %). In addition, the highest protein yield was achieved by sonication using water at 30 °C. This may be explained by ultrasonic field measurements, which revealed higher acoustic pressure levels under these conditions.

Global population growth is putting pressure on the food supply, necessitating the exploration of new, alternative, and sustainable protein sources. Lupin, an underutilized legume in human nutrition, has the potential to play a significant role in addressing this challenge. However, its incorporation into the human diet requires thorough investigation, including exploring and optimizing functionalization processes to maximize its potential. This study aimed to optimize the parameters (pressure, time, and CO2 flow) for extracting anti-technological factors (ATFs) from lupin using supercritical CO2 (SC-CO2) and to evaluate the effects of this extraction on both the flour and the protein isolate derived from it. Optimization revealed that the optimal SC-CO2 conditions were a CO2 flow rate of 4 kg/h at 400 bar for 93 min. Under these conditions, significant changes were observed in the flour composition, including a reduction in oil, polyphenols, and moisture content, along with an increase in ash content. Improved color parameters were also noted. These variations were attributed to the removal of oil and phenolic compounds during processing. Furthermore, this research demonstrated that SC-CO2 treatment improved lupin protein isolate (LPI) purity (93.81 ± 0.31% vs. 87.42 ± 0.48%), significantly reduced oil content (8.31 ± 0.09% vs. 14.31 ± 0.32%), and enhanced color parameters. The SC-CO2 procedure also resulted in a higher protein extraction yield (56.95 ± 0.45% vs. 53.29 ± 2.37%). However, the total extraction yield (g LPI/100 g of flour) was not affected by SC-CO2 treatment, remaining at 24.30 ± 0.97% for the control sample and 24.21 ± 0.26% for the treated sample. The extracted oil (2.71 ± 0.11 g/100 g of flour), a co-product of the SC-CO2 step, exhibited a fatty acid profile characterized by high levels of unsaturated fatty acids (62.8 ± 0.74 g/100 g oil), oleic acid (27.76 ± 0.77 g/100 g oil), linoleic acid (25.98 ± 0.73 g/100 g oil), and α-linolenic acid (5.32 ± 0.16 g/100 g oil), as well as a balanced ratio of essential fatty acids (n-6/n-3 = 4.89). The treatment had minimal to no effect on amino acid content or chemical score, and the protein was characterized by high amounts of essential amino acids (334 ± 3.12 and 328 ± 1.05 mg/g protein in LPI-control and LPI-SF, respectively). These findings demonstrate that both the LPI and the oil extracted using SC-CO2 possess high nutritional quality and are suitable for human food applications.

Meat processing involves different transformations in the animal muscle after slaughtering, which results in changes in tenderness, aroma and colour, determining the quality of the final meat product. Enzymatic glycolysis, proteolysis and lipolysis play a key role in the conversion of muscle into meat. The accurate control of enzymatic reactions in meat muscle is complicated due to the numerous influential factors, as well as its low reaction rate. Moreover, exogenous enzymes are also used in the meat industry to produce restructured products (transglutaminase), to obtain bioactive peptides (peptides with antioxidant, antihypertensive and gastrointestinal activity) and to promote meat tenderization (papain, bromelain, ficin, zingibain, cucumisin and actinidin). Emerging technologies, such as ultrasound (US), pulsed electric fields (PEF), moderate electric fields (MEF), high-pressure processing (HPP) or supercritical CO2 (SC-CO2), have been used to intensify enzymatic reactions in different food applications. This review aims to provide an overview of the enzymatic reactions taking place during the processing of meat products, how they could be intensified by using emerging technologies and envisage potential applications.

For the first time, this study addresses the intensification of supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) treatments using high-power ultrasound (HPU) for the inactivation of fungal (Aspergillus niger) and bacterial (Clostridium butyricum) spores in oil-in-water emulsions. The inactivation kinetics were analyzed at different pressures (100, 350 and 550 bar) and temperatures (50, 60, 70, 80, 85 °C), depending on the microorganism, and compared to the conventional thermal treatment. The inactivation kinetics were satisfactorily described using the Weibull model.Experimental results showed that SC-CO2 enhanced the inactivation level of both spores when compared to thermal treatments. Bacterial spores (C. butyricum) were found to be more resistant to SC-CO2 + HPU, than fungal (A. niger) ones, as also observed in the thermal and SC-CO2 treatments. The application of HPU intensified the SC-CO2 inactivation of C. butyricum spores, e.g. shortening the total inactivation time from 10 to 3 min at 85 °C. However, HPU did not affect the SC-CO2 inactivation of A. niger spores. The study into the effect of a combined SC-CO2 + HPU treatment has to be necessarily extended to other fungal and bacterial spores, and future studies should elucidate the impact of HPU application on the emulsion’s stability.

The pharmaceutical cold chain (PCC) deals with specific logistics operational require-ments related to product quality, safety, and regulations that make the supply chain management process complex. Also, the pharma industry market growth increases the awareness, in terms of good's temperature monitoring and controlling, of the storage and transportation processes across the network. This study provides a novel approach to PCC, based on a systematic literature review with an extensive analysis of the main aspects that influence the supply chain processes. The major findings highlight the recently worldwide research progress on the PCC subjects related, the challenges involving the PCC and its associated technological advances based on three attributes (product characteristics, vehicle capabilities, and logistics service provider’s expertise) and, finally, the impact of technologies and its potential utilization to im-prove the decision-making process on integrated cold chain operations.

Moisture adsorption is considered a critical factor during production and shelf-life of puffed corn cakes (PCC). This study aims to develop and validate an instrumental method and a mathematical model for the characterization of the textural modifications caused by the moisture adsorption in PCC. For that purpose, PCC were stored at different relative humidities to achieve a wide range of water activities (from 0.1 to 0.8 at 22 ± 1 °C). A flexion–compression test was successfully validated in order to characterize the average textural properties of a PCC batch. A mathematical model considering consecutive elastic and plastic zones satisfactorily fitted (average VAR 99.65% and MRE 3.29%) the average stress–strain profiles of PCC and reported useful textural parameters, such as the deformability modulus (E), critical strain (εc), and n curvature parameter. The structural modifications caused by moisture adsorption led to the reduction in E and n and the increase in εc. Even minor changes on the PCC moisture content involve remarkable modifications of the textural properties, which has to be considered for industry and retail distribution.

Porcine liver has a high nutritional value and is rich in proteins, minerals, and vitamins, making it an interesting co-product to alleviate the growing global demand for protein. The objective of this study was to analyze how the drying and defatting processes of porcine liver affect the physicochemical and techno-functional properties of its proteins. Two drying temperatures (40 and 70 °C) were studied, and dried samples were defatted using organic solvents. The drying process turned out to be an effective method for the stabilization of the protein fraction; however, when the drying temperature was high (70 °C), greater protein degradation was found compared to drying at a moderate temperature (40 °C). Regarding the defatting stage, it contributed to an improvement in certain techno-functional properties of the liver proteins, such as the foaming capacity (the average of the dried and defatted samples was 397% higher than the dried samples), with the degree of foaming stability in the liver dried at 40 °C and defatted being the highest (13.76 min). Moreover, the emulsifying capacity of the different treatments was not found to vary significantly (p > 0.05). Therefore, the conditions of the drying and defatting processes conducted prior to the extraction of liver proteins must be properly adjusted to maximize the stability, quality, and techno-functional properties of the proteins.

Among the most frequently used experimental design techniques is the response surface methodology (RSM), which uses an approximation of the real objective function, in the form of an empirical quadratic function. RSM allows the identification of the relations between independent variables (or factors) and a (dependent) response variable. The main contribution of this article is to propose a new procedure that considers the insertion of uncertainties in the coefficients of this empirical function, which is what generally occurs, in practical experimental problems. The new procedure was applied to a real case related to a stamping process in an automotive company, and the results were compared to those obtained by applying classic RSM. The advantages offered by this innovative procedure are presented and discussed, including the statistical validation of the results. The proposed procedure reduces, and sometimes eliminates, the need for additional confirmatory experiments in the laboratory, and allows getting a better adjustment of the factor values and the optimized response variable value compared to the results calculated by classic RSM. It was possible to determine that the proposed procedure outperforms the use of (deterministic) optimization, using the generalized reduced gradient (GRG) algorithm, which is traditionally employed in RSM applications. In recent years, modelling techniques have become more frequently adopted in the field of food processing, especially for cereal-based products, which are among the most consumed foods in the world. Predictive models and simulations make it possible to explore new approaches and optimize proceedings, potentially helping companies reduce costs and limit carbon emissions. Nevertheless, as the different phases of the food processing chain are highly specialized, advances in modelling are often unknown outside of a single domain, and models rarely take into account more than one step. This paper introduces the first high-level overview of modelling techniques employed in different parts of the cereal supply chain, from farming to storage, from drying to milling, from processing to consumption. This review, issued from a networking project including researchers from over 30 different countries, aims at presenting the current state of the art in each domain, showing common trends and synergies, to finally suggest promising future venues for research.

Due to the interest in identifying cost-effective techniques that can guarantee the microbiological, nutritional, and sensorial aspects of food products, this study investigates the effect of CO2 preservation treatment on the sensory quality of pomegranate juice at t0 and after a conservation period of four weeks at 4 °C (t28). The same initial batch of freshly squeezed non-treated (NT) juice was subjected to non-thermal preservation treatments with supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2), and with a combination of supercritical carbon dioxide and ultrasound (CO2-US). As control samples, two other juices were produced from the same NT batch: A juice stabilized with high pressure treatment (HPP) and a juice pasteurized at high temperature (HT), which represent an already established non-thermal preservation technique and the conventional thermal treatment. Projective mapping and check-all-that-apply methodologies were performed to determine the sensory qualitative differences between the juices. The volatile profile of the juices was characterized by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results showed that juices treated with supercritical CO2 could be differentiated from NT, mainly by the perceived odor and volatile compound concentration, with a depletion of alcohols, esters, ketones, and terpenes and an increase in aldehydes. For example, in relation to the NT juice, limonene decreased by 95% and 90%, 1-hexanol decreased by 9% and 17%, and camphene decreased by 94% and 85% in the CO2 and CO2-US treated juices, respectively. Regarding perceived flavor, the CO2-treated juice was not clearly differentiated from NT. Changes in the volatile profile induced by storage at 4 °C led to perceivable differences in the odor quality of all juices, especially the juice treated with CO2-US, which underwent a significant depletion of all major volatile compounds during storage. The results suggest that the supercritical CO2 process conditions need to be optimized to minimize impacts on sensory quality and the volatile profile.

Objetivando verificar a produtividade da soja em varios estadios reprodutivos, quando submetida a diferentes niveis de desfolha, foi conduzido um ensaio na safra 1999/2000, em Gurupi - TO. A cultivar utilizada foi 'M-SOY 109'. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos ao acaso com tres repeticoes e nove tratamentos, instalados em um esquema fatorial 3 X 3, constituido por tres niveis de desfolha (33%, 66% e 100%) e três estadios reprodutivos (R4, R5 e R6), alem da testemunha sem desfolha. Os niveis de desfolha e os estadios reprodutivos influenciaram significativamente todas as caracteristicas avaliadas sendo que a produção de graos decresceu com o incremento da desfolha. RESUMO O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a determinação do módulo de elasticidade de painéis aglomerados por stress wave timer, assim como associar os resultados com o efeito de algumas variáveis de produção dos painéis. O delineamento experimental constituiu-se em cinco tratamentos, sendo quatro tratamentos produzidos com bagaço de cana, nos quais foram avaliados dois tipos de adesivos (melamina-ureia-formaldeído - MUF e ureiaformaldeído - UF) em associação com dois tipos de estruturas de painel (em camadas e homogêneos) e um tratamento produzido com o adesivo UF, com estrutura em camadas e madeira de Eucalyptus urophylla. Observou-se que o tipo de material é o que exerce maior influência sobre a determinação do MOEd, sendo o painel produzido com bagaço de cana o que apresentou as melhores correlações. O tipo de adesivo não apresentou influência sobre os resultados, enquanto que os painéis com estrutura em camadas tiveram tendência de melhor correlação em relação aos painéis homogêneos.

RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar as correlações existentes entre as propriedades físicas e mecânicas de painéis aglomerados de três espécies de Eucalyptus. Foram avaliadas a densidade aparente, razão de compactação, inchamento em espessura, taxa de não retorno em espessura, absorção de água, módulo de elasticidade e ruptura, ligação interna e resistência à compressão. Para os painéis produzidos com Eucalyptus grandis, observou-se acréscimo do módulo de elasticidade com o aumento da razão de compactação e da densidade aparente. Observou-se ainda diminuição das propriedades de flexão estatística com o aumento da absorção de água. Para os painéis produzidos com Eucalyptus cloeziana, observaram-se altas correlações entre os módulos de elasticidade e de ruptura com a ligação interna. Observou-se tendência de aumento do inchamento em espessura depois de 2 horas, com o aumento da densidade aparente e da razão de compactação para os painéis produzidos com a madeira de Eucalyptus saligna e Eucalyptus cloeziana.

As an alternative for the partial replacement of synthetic adhesives are the modifications that occur still during their synthesis, to improve and adhere new properties. Among the possible materials used in nanoscale, talc is a mineral material of natural origin and a promising raw material due to its low cost, lightness, natural hydrophobicity. Due to the scarcity of studies with the insertion of nanotalc in adhesives, this study aimed to produce plywood panels bonded with phenol-formaldehyde adhesive nanomodified with talc to evaluate its physical-mechanical resistance when compared to conventional synthetic adhesives. To carry out this study, three Pinus oocarpa trees with 28 years of age were used. Different concentrations of talc were used in the formulation with the phenol-formaldehyde adhesive, being the treatments 0; 0,05; 1; 1,5 and 2 % of talc (mass/mass) in relation to the adhesive, with three panels per treatment, totaling 15 panels. The pressing time was 8 minutes with temperature of 160 ºC and pressure of 1 MPa. The physical-chemical characteristics of the lignocellulosic material and of the plywood panels were determined. The quality of the adhesive produced was demonstrated by its resistance to water absorption with the insertion of up to 2 % talc to the adhesive, reducing it considerably. From 1 % talc inserted, the plywood panels had their mechanical characteristics superior to those glued with pure phenol-formaldehyde adhesive. However, as the study is innovative in nature, further research should focus on the application and quality evaluation of other talc nanomodified adhesives on different types of wood panels.

Objective: To analyze the insertion of the dimensions of the quadrilateral of Permanent Health Education in the work process under the perception of Primary Health Care nurses. Methods: This is an exploratory-descriptive qualitative study carried out in a municipality belonging to the Macroregion of Fortaleza-Ceará. The study sample consisted of 30 nurses working in Primary Care. Data collection took place between November 2019 and February 2020, in which the semi-structured interview script was used and, soon after, the thematic Content Analysis, proposed by Bardin, was carried out. Results: After compiling and analyzing the narratives, they were divided into thematic units, consistent with the dimensions of Permanent Health Education (teaching, sectoral management, health care and social control) in the nurses' work process. Conclusion: Nurses understand the training policy with emphasis on specific, fragmented and decontextualized actions in the context of the service occurring through nurses from several higher education institutions, with no fixed periodicity to happen and no plan for this process.

RESUMO As Intervenções Breves têm sido preconizadas há mais de 20 anos pela Organização Mundial da Saúde como uma estratégia de prevenção aos problemas relacionados ao uso de Substâncias Psicoativas, tendo como prioridade a aplicação nos serviços de atenção primária à saúde visando a diminuição dos riscos relacionados a esse fenômeno. Diante disso, o objetivo do presente estudo foi mapear e descrever as evidências científicas existentes na literatura sobre o uso de Intervenção Breve para o uso de Substâncias Psicoativas desenvolvidas no Brasil. Trata-se de revisão sistemática. As buscas foram realizadas em sete fontes de informações, em agosto de 2021. Todos os estudos foram desenvolvidos com abordagem quantitativa. O álcool esteve presente na maioria dos estudos, seguido da maconha e nicotina. O cenário predominante foi a unidade básica de saúde, com público de adultos de ambos os sexos e universitários. A maioria apresentou como proposta a Intervenção Breve grupal presencial e somente dez indicaram o referencial norteador da Intervenção Breve utilizada. No Brasil, as Intervenções Breves são incipientes e os estudos apresentados não destacam com exatidão o referencial norteador da intervenção utilizada.

Objective: To characterize the epidemiological profile of exogenous poisoning cases in the state of Pará between 2012 and 2021. Methods: Quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study, based on data collected from the Notifiable Diseases Information System. Results: During this period, 5,803 cases of exogenous poisoning were recorded in Pará. There was a predominance of females (56.92%), aged between 20 and 39 (39.10%) and brown (74.93%). The circumstances that stood out were suicide attempts (32.62%) and accidental use (24.47%), the toxic agents drugs (25.52%) and agricultural pesticides (13.42%), cases of acute-single exposure (58.94%), clinical diagnosis (47.11%) as a confirmation criterion and progression to cure without sequelae (65.88%). When relating circumstances to age group and gender, a high number of suicide attempts were identified among young people and adults (n=1,633), mainly women (n=1,198), while in accidental use, the main victims were children (n=840), especially males (n=740). Conclusion: Exogenous poisoning has become a health problem in the state of Pará, with specific characteristics, and it is necessary to promote health education to help alert children, young people, families and the community as a whole.

This work aimed to evaluate the physical-mechanical properties of Pinus oocarpa wood agglomerated panels produced with different levels (0 %, 25 %, 50 %, 75 % and 100 %) of wood replacement with bean residues. For this purpose, Pinus oocarpa wood and the agricultural residue were reduced into particles and their properties of apparent density, extractives, lignin and ash content of these raw materials were determined. Then, the particles were dried to a 3 % humidity and granulometrically selected to produce panels with a density of 0,60 g/cm3. These particles were bonded using 12 % urea-formaldehyde adhesive, pressed, following normative dimensions (250 mm x 250 mm x 15 mm (width, length, and thickness)), and kept in a climate-controlled environment (20 ºC ± 2 ºC and 65 % ± 5 % RH) until the physical and mechanical tests were carried out. The research results indicated that the particles from bean residues in comparison with Pinus oocarpa wood, presented low density, lignin and holocellulose values, and higher extractives data. Furthermore, regarding the characterization of the panels, there was a trend towards uniformity in the apparent density values, an increase in the properties of compact ratio, water absorption and thickness swelling, and a decrease in their mechanical properties associated with the increase in the by-product addition to the panels. Therefore, new studies are necessary, seeking a larger study and greater knowledge of the addition effects of bean residues in particulate panels, aiming the dissemination of this sustainable process on large scale.

Background: Radiotherapy can affect healthy cells, resulting in side effects. This study aimed to assess the impact of radiotherapy on soft tissue in surgical wounds in rats. Methods: The animals were divided into four groups: control (S) group without irradiation, immediate irradiation (S-IIr) group receiving irradiation right after surgery, late irradiation (S-LIr) group receiving irradiation four weeks after surgery, and early irradiation (Ir-S) group receiving irradiation before surgery. The irradiated groups underwent two fractional stages of 15 Gy. Muscle contractibility (EMG) was evaluated at two different time points, and after 2 and 7 weeks, the animals were euthanized for histological analysis of the muscles and skin. Results: There was no significant difference between the EMG1 and EMG2 values of the S and S-LIr groups, but both S-IIr and Ir-S groups exhibited a statistically significant difference. The S group demonstrated a larger diameter of muscle fiber compared to other groups, showing a significant difference. In terms of skin analysis, the S-IIr group had the least inflammatory infiltrate and the highest amount of red fibers, differing significantly from the other groups. Conclusions: Regardless of the duration, radiotherapy was found to have effects on the surrounding soft tissues, as concluded by this study.

This study assessed the blood pressure (BP) of normotensive subjects and subjects with pharmacologically controlled hypertension after sodium bicarbonate jet prophylaxis. Forty subjects were divided into 2 groups: a normotensive control group (n = 20) and a hypertensive group (n = 20). Blood pressure measurements were conducted at 4 timepoints: prior to the dental prophylaxis (TO), immediately after treatment (Ti), 15 minutes after treatment (T15), and 30 minutes after treatment (T30). The systolic BP (SBP) values for both groups were significantly increased at Ti (P < 0.05) and returned to their initial state at T15. Both groups also showed a significant increase in diastolic BP (DBP) values at Ti (P < 0.05); however, the basal conditions in hypertensive subjects were not restored until T30, whereas the values for normotensive subjects were restored at T15. The results indicated that systemic BP changed significantly after sodium bicarbonate jet prophylaxis in both study groups; while initial SBP values were restored by 15 minutes in both groups, the return to initial DBP values took longer in the hypertensive group than in the normotensive group. ABSTRACT Background: Most studies that analyze the association between serum folate levels and cognitive function either restrict their assessments to specific clinical scenarios or do not include middle-aged individuals, to whom strategies for preventing cognitive impairment may be more feasible. Objective: To examine the association between serum folate levels and cognitive function in the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil) baseline assessment. Methods: Data from 4,571 ELSA-Brasil participants who live in the state of São Paulo, aged 35-74 years, were analyzed. The word list learning, delayed recall, word recognition, verbal fluency, and Trail Making Test Part B consisted in the cognitive tests. For each test, age, sex, and education-specific standardized scores and a global cognitive score were calculated. Crude and adjusted linear regression models were used to examine the associations of serum folate levels with cognitive test scores. Results: In multivariable-adjusted models, serum folate was not associated with global cognitive score (β=-0.043; 95% confidence interval [95%CI] -0.135 to 0.050 for lowest vs. highest quintile group), nor with any cognitive test performance. We did not find associations between serum folate and global cognitive scores in subgroups stratified by age, sex, or use of vitamin supplements either. Conclusions: We did not find significant associations between serum folate and cognitive performance in this large sample, which is characterized by a context of food fortification policies and a consequent low frequency of folate deficiency. Positive results from previous studies may not apply to the increasingly common contexts in which food fortification is implemented, or to younger individuals.

Abstract Peanut crop waste (hulls), which have a chemical composition similar to wood, can be considered as a source of industrial raw material for the production of particleboard, provided that they are of similar quality to wooden panels. The present study aimed to produce and evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of medium density particleboards made of peanut hulls and pine wood particles bonded with urea-formaldehyde adhesive. The panels did not present satisfactory dimensional stability. The mechanical properties were significantly reduced with the addition of peanut hulls. In general, peanut hulls did not represent a good alternative to be used as a source of raw material for the production of particleboard. The inclusion of new parameters in the production process would be essential to improve the technological properties, such as: new particle geometries, use of paraffin, particle treatments and inclusion of denser species in the composition of the panels.

Objetivo: relatar uma experiência sobre a realização de ações para a formação de professores para a captação de doadores do futuro em escolas públicas do município de Tucuruí, Pará. Método: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, do tipo relato de experiência oriundo da realização de um projeto de extensão universitária interdisciplinar e intersetorial desenvolvido pela Universidade do Estado do Pará em parceria com o serviço de saúde de média complexidade Fundação Centro de Hemoterapia e Hematologia do Pará, o qual consistiu na realização de ações alusivas a formação de professores para a captação de doadores do futuro em escolas públicas da educação básica. Resultados: a experiência aconteceu em etapas: 1) revisão de literatura para aprofundamento acerca da problemática e aquisição de conhecimentos sobre soluções; 2) planejamento e organização de materiais e atividades e 3) execução das ações. As temáticas abordadas durante as formações foram: contexto histórico da doação sanguínea, conceituação e importância da transfusão sanguínea, dados estatísticos sobre doação, funcionamento de um hemocentro e etapas de uma doação, mitos e verdades sobre a doação. Considerações Finais: a experiência conseguiu despertar interesse nos professores pelo tema, portanto, conclui-se que os alunos também serão agraciados com o conhecimento, vindo a tornarem-se possíveis doadores.

Melipona quadrifasciata anthidioides and Scaptotrigona depilis are species of stingless bees capable of producing propolis, which has considerable bioprospecting potential. In this context, the objective of this study was to determine the chemical compositions and evaluate the antimicrobial activity of propolis produced by M. q. anthidioides and S. depilis. The ethanolic extracts of propolis of M. q. anthidioides (EEP-M) and S. depilis (EEP-S) were prepared, and their chemical constituents were characterized by HPLC-ESI-MS. The antimicrobial activity was evaluated against bacteria and fungi, isolated from reference strains and hospital origin resistant to the action of antibiotics. From EEP-M, phenolic compounds were annotated, including gallic acid, ellagic acid, and flavonoids, as well as diterpenes and triterpenes. EEP-S showed mainly triterpene in its chemical composition. Both extracts inhibited the growth of medically relevant bacteria and fungi, including hospital-acquired and antimicrobial-resistant. In general, EEP-S showed better antimicrobial activity compared to EEP-M. The MIC of EEP-S against vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis was 3.50 mg/mL, while the MIC of EEP-M was 5.33 ± 0.16 mg/mL. In conclusion, this study shows that propolis produced by M. q. anthidioides and S. depilis has the potential to be used for the prevention or treatment of microbial infections.
