Background: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a common painful and chronic condition that affects a large proportion of the population particularly older individuals. Increasing age and obesity are important predisposing factors for the development of knee OA. While in most of the cases, conservative approach is utilized, in patients not responding to conservative management surgical intervention is required. Proximal fibular osteotomy (PFO) is one of the important surgical procedures which is being increasingly used for managing knee OA not responding to conservative treatment. Aims and Objectives: The objectives of the study are as follows: To study the role of PFO in medial compartment OA of knee. To study the clinical and functional outcomes of OA of knee treated with PFO with respect to pain, disability, and range of movements. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective study conducted in the orthopedic division at Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed College and Hospital, Sangli. Thirty patients with medial compartment knee OA and treated by PFO were included in this study on the basis of pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Body mass index (BMI) of all patients was determined. Pre-operative and post-operative visual analog scale index was analyzed to asses pain relief. Functional outcome was assessed by the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score. P<0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Results: Out of 30 studied cases, there were 18 (60%) females with a M: F ratio of 1:1.5. Fourteen (46.7%) of the participants had right side affected whereas 16 (53.3%) of the participants had left knee OA. The mean age of affected cases was found to be 71.27±9.92 years. The median (IQR) of age (years) was 72.00 (64-80) and the age ranged from 52 to 90 years. Nine patients (30%) were obese (BMI =30) and 13 (43.33%) patients were overweight (BMI =25 but <30). There was a significant reduction in pain at the time of final followup (P<0.0001). Analysis of functional assessment showed that mean JOA scores at the time of final follow-up had significantly improved as compared to JOA scores at the time of presentation. Complications were seen in 4 (13.33%) patients. Conclusion: Proximal femoral osteotomy is effective in relieving pain and improving joint function in patients with medial compartment OA. Background: Intertrochanteric fractures are commonly encountered in orthopedics practice. Achieving early mobilization in patients with intertrochanteric fractures is the cornerstone of management. Proximal femoral nailing (PFN) is gaining popularity because of better tolerance of this procedure as well as minimal complication rates. We conducted this study to find out the functional outcome of patients with intertrochanteric fractures treated by PFN. Aims and Objectives: The objectives are as follows: (1) To find out the functional outcome of patients with intertrochanteric fractures treated by PFN. (2) To find out complications in patients treated by PFN. Materials and Methods: 60 patients with intertrochanteric fracture were included in this prospective study on the basis of a predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Under spinal anesthesia closed reduction and internal fixation by PFN were done. Open reduction was done in cases where closed reduction was not possible. Functional outcome as assessed by Harris hip score. Statistical analysis was done using SSPS 21.0 Software and P<0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Results: Out of 60 studied cases there were 37 (61.67%) males and 23 (38.33%) females with a M: F ratio of 1:0.62. The most common type of fracture was AO A3.2 (simple transverse fracture) which was seen in 28 (46.67%) patients followed by AO A3.1 (Simple Oblique fracture) and AO A3.3 (wedge fracture or multi-fragmentary fracture). Functional outcome was excellent to good in 41 (68.33%) patients whereas fair and poor outcome was seen in 12 (20%) and 5 (8.33%) patients, respectively. Very poor outcome was seen in 2 (3.33%) patients. Conclusion: PFN is an excellent technique for management of intertrochanteric fractures. Background: Distal femoral fractures are one of the common type of fractures seen after motor vehicular accidents. The optimal management of these fractures requires open reduction and internal fixation by plates and screws. Various studies have shown that open reduction and internal fixation by plates and screws result in early post-operative knee mobilization which is essential for good union and better functional outcome. Aims and Objective: The current study was conducted to evaluate the results of fracture lower end of femur treated by open reduction and internal fixation using locking compression plate. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective clinical study in which the cases with fracture lower end of femur were included on the basis of a predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Fractures were categorised by Mullers classification. All patients were treated by distal femoral locking compression plates and screws. The cases were followed up for radiological union and functional outcome (Neer's scoring). The statistical analysis was done using SSPS 21.0 software. P value less than 0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Results: Out of the 20 studied cases there were 13 (65%) males and 7 (35%) females with a M:F ratio of 1:0.53. Road traffic accidents were the most common cause (75%) of distal femoral fractures. The most common type of fracture seen in studied cases was found to be Mullers C2 type of fracture (45%) followed by Mullers C3 (20%) and Mullers C1 (15%). All patients were treated by open reduction and internal fixation. Mean Injury to surgery interval was found to be 4.25 days in studied cases. Postoperatively desirable knee flexion (1100) was achieved in 10 (50%) cases whereas in 8 patients 910-1090knee flexion was achieved. In 2 (10%) patients less than 900 knee flexion could be achieved. The functional outcome (as assessed by Neer's score) showed that Good and fair results were seen in 13 (65 %) and 6 (30 %) patients. Poor functional outcome was seen in only 1 (5 %) patient. Conclusion: Locking compression plate is found to have good results in patients with traumatic distal femoral fractures in terms of early mobilization and functional outcome.
