Harmful chemicals are always found in the environment and it is necessary to construct a viable sensor to detect those chemicals. In order to construct an electrochemical sensing platform, designing an electrode using bismuth mixed oxides are more important and which grabbed more attention due to its high electrocatalytic ability and conductivity. In this literature, we report a facile synthesis of thorn apple like structured pure bismuth molybdate (Bi2MoO6) using a simple hydrothermal assisted one-step calcination method and we report a facile method to sense 4-cyanophenol by electrochemical technique. Bi2MoO6 modified (Glassy Carbon electrode) GCE possess two linear ranges 0.1–39.1 µM and 46.6–110.1 µM with excellent detection limit 0.008297 µM and 0.01097 µM. Also, this novel sensor is steady with good stability, repeatability, and reproducibility. Successfully, the environmental water sample is analyzed as a real sample with a feasible and quantification results which were compared with HPLC analysis.

Tras la desintegración de la Unión Soviética y el fin de la guerra fría los países de Europa Central y del Este hicieron tránsito hacia el modelo capitalista de desarrollo en un proceso muy corto. El relativo éxito de ese tránsito solo se explica si se considera que estuvo acompañado de la construcción de estados, en sentido weberiano, en los que el fortalecimiento de la democracia, la construcción de la nacionalidad y el establecimiento de políticas sociales adecuadas jugaron un papel decisivo. No obstante, las diferencias políticas, económicas y sociales entre los países de Europa Central y del Este son tan grandes, que los resultados de esa transición fueron, como hoy puede constatarse, muy diversos.

This paper presents a multipurpose and low cost sensor for temperature control over the wine fermentation process, in order to steadily communicate data through wireless modules in real time to a viticulturist's mobile or fixed device. The advantage of our prototype is due to the fact that it will be used by small winemakers in the "Ribera del Duero" area, and as it is a cheaper sensor and easy to use for the control and monitoring of the grape fermentation process, it will probably be used by other business men with the same necessities in the region. The microcontroller MSP430G2553 is among the components that make up the sensor, that are integrated onto a motherboard. It communicates with the RN-42 Bluetooth module through an UART interface. After verifying that all elements are working correctly, the parts are assembled to form the final prototype. This device has been tested in a winery in the region, fulfilling the initial project specifications.

On the basis of a density-based quantification of the steric effect [Liu, S. B. J. Chem. Phys.2007, 126, 244103], the origin of the internal rotation barrier between the eclipsed and staggered conformers of ethane is systematically investigated in this work from an information-theoretical point of view by using the Fisher information measure in conjugated spaces. Two kinds of computational approaches are considered in this work: adiabatic (with optimal structure) and vertical (with fixed geometry). The analyses are performed systematically by following, in each case, the conformeric path by changing the dihedral angle from 0 to 180° . This is calculated at the HF, MP2, B3LYP, and CCSD(T) levels of theory and with several basis sets. Selected descriptors of the densities are utilized to support the observations. Our results show that in the adiabatic case the eclipsed conformer possesses a larger steric repulsion than the staggered conformer, but in the vertical cases the staggered conformer retains a larger steric repulsion. Our results verify the plausibility for defining and computing the steric effect in the post-Hartree-Fock level of theory according to the scheme proposed by Liu.

The Fisher-Shannon and LMC shape complexities and the Shannon-disequilibrium, Fisher-Shannon and Fisher-disequilibrium information planes, which consist of two localization-delocalization factors, are computed in both position and momentum spaces for the one-particle densities of 90 selected molecules of various chemical types, at the CISD/6-311++G(3df,2p) level of theory. We found that while the two measures of complexity show general trends only, the localization-delocalization planes clearly exhibit chemically significant patterns. Several molecular properties (energy, ionization potential, total dipole moment, hardness, electrophilicity) are analyzed and used to interpret and understand the chemical nature of the composite information-theoretic measures above mentioned. Our results show that these measures detect not only randomness or localization but also pattern and organization.

Information-theoretic measures are employed to describe the course of a three-center chemical reaction in terms of detecting the transition state and the stationary points unfolding the bond-forming and bond-breaking regions which are not revealed in the energy profile. The information entropy profiles for the selected reactions are generated by following the intrinsic-reaction-coordinate (IRC) path calculated at the MP2 level of theory from which Shannon entropies in position and momentum spaces at the QCISD(T)/6-311++G(3df,2p) level are determined. Several complementary reactivity descriptors are also determined, such as the dipole moment, the molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) obtained through a multipole expansion (DMA), the atomic charges and electric potentials fitted to the MEP, the hardness and softness DFT descriptors, and several geometrical parameters which support the information-theoretic analysis. New density-based structures related to the bond-forming and bond-breaking regions are proposed. Our results support the concept of a continuum of transient of Zewail and Polanyi for the transition state rather than a single state, which is also in agreement with reaction-force analyses.

Quantifying the dissimilarity among two or more many-electron systems by means of their one-particle densities is a hot topic within the physical applications of the information theory. This is a relevant achievement of the so-called "divergence measures," for which several definitions have been considered, each one with its own advantages and difficulties. Nevertheless, all of them are considered in order to disclose the differences among the involved systems, neutral atoms in the present work, according to their densities in the position and momentum spaces. The pioneering Jensen-Shannon divergence (JSD) constitutes a particular case of the one-parameter Jensen-Tsallis divergence (JTD). The analysis here provided for the JTD of atomic systems generalizes and improves some previous results on the JSD one. Such an improvement mainly arises from the capability of JTD to modify, by means of its characteristic parameter, the relative contribution of relevant specific regions of the atomic densities in both conjugated spaces.

The Fisher divergence (FD) and Jensen-Shannon divergence (JSD) are used in this work with the aim of providing quantitative measures of the discrepancies between two arbitrary D-dimensional distribution functions, the FD being of local character and the JSD of global one. In doing so, the concepts of Fisher information and Shannon entropy associated to a distribution are the essential quantities for building up these comparative functionals. This kind of relative measures are here applied to the study of the one-particle densities in both conjugated spaces (position and momentum) of neutral atoms, discussing the results as compared to those provided by other previous functional measures. It is clearly shown how these divergences provide relevant information on the atomic shell structure, up to a level which depends on the considered space and measure.

Endocarditis due to Listeria monocytogenes is a very uncommon and very serious disease that may lead to valve dysfunction and cardiac arrest. We report two cases of endocarditis caused by L. monocytogenes and review the papers previously published on the subject.

Fisher-Shannon (FS) and Lopez-Ruiz, Mancini, and Calbet (LMC) complexity measures, detecting not only randomness but also structure, are computed by using near Hartree-Fock wave functions for neutral atoms with nuclear charge Z=1-103 in position, momentum, and product spaces. It is shown that FS and LMC complexities are qualitatively and numerically equivalent for these systems. New complexity candidates are defined, computed, and compared by using the following information-theoretic magnitudes: Shannon entropy, Fisher information, disequilibrium, and variance. Localization-delocalization planes are constructed for each complexity measure, where the subshell pattern of the periodic table is clearly shown. The complementary use of r and p spaces provides a compact and more complete understanding of the information content of these planes.

We present a case of tuberculous peritonitis in a woman with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), treated with adalimumab, and we review the association between anti-tumour necrosis factor (anti-TNF) therapy and tuberculosis. There have been only 2 case reports of peritoneal tuberculosis associated with anti-TNF and only 1 with adalimumab.

Quantum similarity for atoms is investigated using electron densities in position and momentum spaces. Contrary to the results in position space, the analysis in the momentum space shows how the momentum density carries fundamental information about periodicity and structure of the system and reveals the pattern of Mendeleev's table. A global analysis in the joint r-p space keeps this result.

Aim: To know the number of patients that are admitted in the hospital with TED or those who have developed it during their stay, analyzing how to manage this disease and make a basis for a prospective study of this disease., Methods: It is a descriptive and retrospective study of TED diagnosed patients during their stay at the Hospital Clínico San Carlos of Madrid for a 6 month period. Data related with epidemiologic records, diagnosis, treatment and complications of patients with Deep-Vein Thrombosis (DVT), Pulmonary Thromboembolism (PTE) or both (DVT+PTE) are collected., Results: From October 1st of 2003 to March 31st of 2004, 239 patients were diagnosed with TED (64 DVT, 125 PTE y 51 DVT + PTE) when they were discharged from our hospital, with an average age of 73.2 years (standard desviation 13.64). We classify as risky factors with significative statistical differences chemotherapy, acute myocardium infarction and obesity. It has not been found any relation between the treatment used and the development of hemorrhage. Patients with previous episodes of TED had more frequent hemorrhagies than those without such records. Hypokinesia in the right ventricle shown on the echocardiogram supposed a gloomy prognosis of the death for TED as well as the development of DVT + PTE., Conclusion: In more than a 50% of patients, TED was PTE and more than a 60% were women. It is important to obtain information about these patients because 2/3 of them are admitted to internal medicine. Chemotherapy, AIM and obesity were factors significatively associated to DVT, PTE and DVT + PTE. Hypokinesia in the right ventricle shown on the echocardiogram supposed a gloomy prognosis for TED as well as the development of DVT + PTE.

We describe the first case reported in the literature of liver abscess due to Lactococcus lactis cremoris in an immunocompetent adult patient. The patient was treated with catheter drainage and antibiotics, which resulted in improvement and resolution.

Objectives: To evaluate the comprehension level of the information provided to patients and relatives attending an emergency department and to know their satisfaction degree., Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was designed. The selection of study patients was made by means of a simple randomized sampling and the total of patients was 213. At discharge, these patients and their relatives answered a written, anonymous questionnaire. To evaluate the comprehension of the information provided, the questionnaire responses were checked against the clinical records., Results: The self-identification of the health care providers, information on the estimated length of stay at the ED, the explanation of complementary tests and their results significantly determined the satisfaction score on the provided information, which for the patients was 6.3 on a 10-point scale. The percentages of patients who were knowledgeable of the performed tests, diagnosis, and administered treatment were 61.5%, 50.7%, and 35.2%, respectively. Understanding the diagnosis and the administered treatment differed according to age (p < 0.001) and the assimilation of the information on recommendations at patients's discharge differed according to the education level (p < 0.05)., Conclusions: The self-identification of health care personnel would allow for a better bi-directional information flow. Given the socio-cultural characteristics of our population, the information provided should be clear and concise. The transmission of information to most emergency department users would be best achieved with previous information of the workflow at the emergency department in the form of booklets at the entrance, and also establishing protocols for the informed consent on different diagnostic and treatment techniques inherent to emergency care.

Background: We aimed to study the presence of anti-2-glycoprotein I antibodies (anti-2GPI) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) analyzing their relationship with anticardiolipin antibodies (aCL)., Patients and Method: 63 patients with SLE and 54 healthy volunteers. Detection of anti-2GPI antibodies was performed by ELISA., Results: 25 (40%) patients with SLE and 1 (2%) control had anti-2GPI antibodies (p < 0.001). 17 patients with aCL (43%) had anti-2GPI antibodies and 4 patients (20%) without aCL were found to have anti-2GPI antibodies (p < 0.05). There was an association between thrombosis and aCL. However, the association between thrombosis and anti-2GPI antibodies was not significant., Conclusions: Anti-2GPI antibodies are more frequent in SLE and they are more prevalent in patients with aCL. There is an association between thrombosis and aCL but no significant association between thrombosis and anti-2GPI antibodies.

Objectives: a) to determine the prevalence of anti-ribosomal P antibodies in patients with ESL in our setting; b) to determine if there are associations between clinical signs of ESL and these autoantibodies; c) to analyze if there is any correlation between the presence of anti-P in patients with ESL and the results of other routine lab tests; and d) to assess the usefulness of implementing as routine test the determination of anti-P antibodies., Material and Methods: The study included 60 patients diagnosed of ESL and 61 healthy subjects as the control group. ELISA was used to determine anti-ribosomal antibodies. Chi-square, Fisher and Student t tests were used for the statistical analyses., Results: Of the 60 patients with SLE, 29 (48%) had anti-P antibodies as determined by ELISA. No association was observed between the presence of anti-P antibodies and psychosis, depression, hepatic failure, renal failure or any other clinical signs of ESL. A correlation was found between the levels of anti-P antibodies as determined by ELISA and anti-histone, ANA and AMA antibodies., Conclusions: The prevalence of anti-P antibodies was high among our ESL patients (48%). Their presence was not significantly associated with any clinical sign; however, an association was found with other lab markers related to the presence of active disease.

Hematologic alterations are frequent in SLE. The hematologic changes of 111 patients diagnosed as suffering from SLE are described, associating them to 89 clinical, biological and hystological variables. The most frequent alteration was normocytic and normochromic anemia. Coombs positive hemolytic anemia appeared in 10% of the cases. Approximately 20% of patients had leukopenia. Lymphopenia was observed during the active period of the disease. Mild thrombocytopenia is common, as well as quality changes of the platelets. The sedimentation rate is high in nearly all patients with SLE and this is a non-specific index of the disease activity. These changes have seldom been described in our area.

The appearance of chorea due to systemic lupus erythematosus is extremely rare. A greater frequency of circulating anticoagulant, false positive luetic serology and antiphospholipid antibodies has been recently detected in these patients. For this reason, it has been postulated that these could be involved in the genesis of the chorea through a thrombotic mechanism or autoimmune encephalitis. We describe a case or chorea in a female patient with systemic lupus erythematosus.

Sixty cases of hypersensitivity vasculitis are revised analyzing their possible etiology, clinical course, analytical and histological alterations, evolution, and treatment. Thirty of these cases corresponded to Schönlein Henoch purpura (SH). The results of this subgroup (SH) are compared to other hypersensitivity vasculitis (HV).

A patient with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who developed disseminated intravascular coagulation during the beginning of SLE is presented. No other cause responsible for the producing of DIC was found. After treatment with corticoids, and cyclophosphamide the DIC was rapidly settled. This case supports the need for a complete blood test in patients with SLE who show coagulation alterations.
