We aimed to estimate the proportion of the population infected with SARS-CoV-2 in the first year of the pandemic. The study population consisted of outpatient adults with mild or no COVID-19 symptoms and was divided into subpopulations with different levels of exposure. Among the subpopulation without known previous COVID-19 contacts, 4143 patients were investigated. Of the subpopulation with known COVID-19 contacts, 594 patients were investigated. IgG- and IgA-seroprevalence and RT-PCR positivity were determined in context with COVID-19 symptoms. Our results suggested no significant age-related differences between participants for IgG positivity but indicated that COVID-19 symptoms occurred most frequently in people aged between 20 and 29 years. Depending on the study population, 23.4–74.0% PCR-positive people (who were symptomless SARS-CoV-2 carriers at the time of the investigation) were identified. It was also observed that 72.7% of the patients remained seronegative for 30 days or more after their first PCR-positive results. This study hoped to contribute to the scientific understanding of the significance of asymptomatic and mild infections in the long persistence of the pandemic.

PurposeThe basis of the antitumor immunotherapy, of which the purpose is the stimulation of the immune system. We have used two of the Pathogen Associated Molecular Patterns: unmethylated CpG oligonucleotide, a ligand of Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9), and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) which is recognized by TLR4, combined with an agonistic OX40 receptor-specific monoclonal antibody (anti-OX40), which is expressed by activated regulatory T-cells (and by other activated T-cell populations as well). The objective of this study was to prove the effectiveness of the aforementioned compounds in an animal model, on a bladder cancer cell line.MethodsWe have instilled MB49 cells subcutaneously, to the left musculus biceps femoris. We have created three observation groups, each containing ten mice. After eleven days, all treated mice bearing the size of 5-8 mm (in diameter) tumor were administered CpG + anti-OX40 or LPS + anti-OX40 three times with a three-day lap between each treatment. Mice in the control group did not receive any treatment.ResultsAll the specimens from the control and LPS + anti-OX40 groups have died by the sixtieth day of the observation period, however, five mice from the CpG + anti-OX40 group were still alive. The experiment lasted until the last surviving mouse died, which occurred on the 357th day after tumor implantation.DiscussionThe treatment with LPS did not make anti-OX40 more potent and did not increase the survival times. However, CpG + anti-OX40 has shown increased antitumor activity compared to the other two groups.

BackgroundIn children undergoing chemotherapy yearly influenza vaccination is recommended by treatment protocols. We investigated the relationship between cellular immunity and the antibody response to inactivated influenza vaccines.Methods25 patients (age: 2-18 years) undergoing chemotherapy for different malignancies participated in our study. Flow cytometric detection of peripheral blood lymphocyte subpopulations together with hemagglutination inhibition antibody titers were measured before and 21-28 days after vaccination. We examined the ratio and total numbers of CD3+, CD4+, CD8+ T cells, activated helper (CD3+CD4+CD25low), regulatory (CD3+CD4+CD25high), naive (CD3+CD45RA+) and memory (CD3+CD45RO+) T cells, CD56+NK, and CD3+CD56+ (NKT-like) cells. Relationships between specific antibody responses (seroprotection, seroconversion, geometric mean titer (GMT), geometric mean fold increase (GMFI)) and the ratios and counts of lymphocyte subpopulations were evaluated using one-way ANOVA and the paired sample t test after dichotomization according to age-related reference values.ResultsPatients with CD4+ lymphocyte levels in the normal age-specific range showed significantly better response regarding postvaccination GMT elevation for H1N1 and H3N2 strains (97.52 vs. 19.2, p=0.019, 80 vs. 14.43, p=0.021, respectively). GMFI results were significant only against B strain (2.69-fold vs. 1.23-fold, p=0.046). Prevaccination CD3+CD56+ (NKT-like) cells above predicted values according to age showed significant associations both in postvaccination GMT elevation (H1N1: 75.11 vs. 14.14, p=0.010; H3N2: 62.18 vs. 11.22, p=0.012; B: 22.69 vs. 6.67, p=0.043) and GMFI against all three strains (H1N1: 3.76-fold vs. 1.06-fold, p=0.015; H3N2: 2.74-fold vs. 1, p=0.013; B: 2.57-fold vs. 1, p=0.008). By one-way ANOVA, we found a positive relation between absolute lymphocyte cell count above 1000/µl and the postvaccination GMT elevation against H3N2 (12.81 vs. 56.56, p=0.032), and GMFI regarding H1N1 (1.22-fold vs. 3.48-fold, p=0.044).ConclusionsIn addition to verifying the predictive value of absolute lymphocyte count above 1000/µl, our results suggest an association between NKT-like cell counts and the specific antibody response against all three investigated influenza strains in highly immunosuppressed patients. Furthermore, prevaccination CD4+ lymphocyte levels in the normal age-specific range may influence seroresponse.

Students in teacher education programs will have all sorts of assignments related to education at the public school setting, so it is important for them to carry a healthy active way of life and become a role model in this area as well. The aim of our survey was to characterize the status of physique, body composition and aerobic performance of male teacher education students at the beginning of their first year in program and at the end. All first year male students were selected at the teacher training program at Apáczai Csere János Faculty, University of West Hungary (N=102). Results in most areas were within a normal adult range. There were no difference in the physique characteristics between students in general teaching program and students in PE and sport program (Height, Weight, Metric and Plastic Index), but there were significant difference in body composition and Cooper-test results. The results did not change significantly over the year. It would be important to support teacher education students with scheduled and professional health-related training program based upon their individual needs and expectations towards healthy active living.

Teachers' language attitudes play a key role in their decision-making, evaluation, and behaviour in the classroom. This is as true in a monolingual environment as it is in a bilingual or multilingual linguistic situation, but it is fair to assume that the two different linguistic environments are associated with the dominance of different attitudes and ideologies. Among the related research, it is hard to find any that examine the difference between monolinguals and multilinguals from the perspective of language bias, especially in the field of education. The present study explores the language ideologies and attitudes of Hungarian language teachers. The study was based on the language attitudes of 502 Hungarian language teachers, of whom 57% teach in a bilingual setting and 43% in a monolingual environment. The research instrument was a tool similar to a verbal guise test. It was used to assess standard and non-standard language variants, the students who use them and their oral presentations to the teachers included in the survey. The primary hypothesis, that bilingual or multilingual teachers are more linguistically tolerant than their monolingual colleagues, was not confirmed. In fact, in some cases, the data revealed the opposite.

The non-standard dialects (especially the vernacular dialects) are very frequent objects of cabaret scenes and caricatures. In this case dialects or people speaking in dialects are often related to low intelligence, illiteracy, nonsense, etc. This type of representation of the non-standard dialects creates funny situations, characters for the audience and it is a very popular tool among comedians. However, there are many problems with it. The current study focuses on the Hungarian comedians' representations of non-standard dialects. The primary questions of the article are the following: how the mentioned process is being realized and what is the comedians' intention with it? Furthermore, how can the mentioned phenomenon effect on the dialects and their speakers? What is the impact if comedians as different characters speak in vernacular dialects? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
