The use of magnetic garnets in new technologies such as spintronic devices requires fine-structured thin films. Classical fabrication techniques for these materials, typically physical vapor deposition methods, lead to excellent magnetic behavior. However, availability and scalability for potential applications are well restricted. In this study, we propose an innovative approach to fabricating Yttrium Iron Garnet thin films with precise thickness control achieved through iterative layer deposition via a chemical synthesis route. Remarkably, the iterative deposition process results in films exhibiting exceptional crystallinity. Magnetic characterization provides saturation magnetization and coercivity values on par with those reported in literature, summed to narrow ferromagnetic resonance lines. Therefore, in this work we demonstrate the viability of polymer assisted deposition as a promising alternative thinking about scalability to conventional deposition techniques for this material. Notably, our findings reveal energy conversion efficiencies comparable to those achieved with materials synthesized via physical vapor deposition methods.

Es bastante frecuente enfrentarnos en el aula a diferentes comportamientos que no son adecuados y que interfieren en el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje del alumnado. Algunas de estas conductas pueden ser catalogadas como conductas disruptivas. Las conductas disruptivas pueden deberse a diferentes factores. No obstante, la autoestima y la inteligencia emocional pueden jugar un papel fundamental en el desarrollo de estas conductas antisociales. Es por ello que desde los centros educativos debemos de favorecer que los alumnos tengan una adecuada autoestima, así como que sepan reconocer e identificar las emociones, autorregular las respuestas y controlar sus impulsos. Por ello, en este trabajo de innovación educativa que tendrá como objetivos: 1) detectar conductas disruptivas en el aula; 2) modificar las conductas disruptivas identificadas; y 3) elevar la autoestima e inteligencia emocional de los alumnos. Esta intervención irá destinada a alumnado de segundo ciclo de Educación Infantil, en concreto al tercer curso. La propuesta de innovación educativa consta de 20 sesiones distribuidas entre septiembre y diciembre (primer trimestre), en las que se exponen diferentes actividades para detectar y modificar conductas disruptivas en el aula, así como para mejorar la autoestima e inteligencia emocional de los alumnos. La propuesta, en cuanto a elementos curriculares se refiere, estará regida por el Decreto 98/2022 del 22 de julio por el que se establece la ordenación y el currículo de Educación Infantil para la comunidad autónoma de Extremadura (España).

Epitaxial strain modifies the physical properties of thin films deposited on single-crystal substrates. In a previous work, we demonstrated that in the case of La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 thin films the strain induced by the substrate can produce the segregation of a non-ferromagnetic layer (NFL) at the top surface of ferromagnetic epitaxial La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 for a critical value of the tetragonality τ, defined as τ = |c − a|a, of τC ≈ 0.024. Although preliminary analysis suggested its antiferromagnetic nature, to date a complete characterization of the magnetic state of such an NFL has not been performed. Here, we present a comprehensive magnetic characterization of the strain-induced segregated NFL. The field-cooled magnetic hysteresis loops exhibit an exchange bias mechanism below T ≈ 80 K, which is well below the Curie temperature of the ferromagnetic La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 layer. The exchange bias and coercive fields decay exponentially with temperature, which is commonly accepted to describe spin-glass (SG) behavior. The signatures of slow dynamics were confirmed by slow spin relaxation over a wide temperature regime. Low-energy muon spectroscopy experiments directly evidence the slowing down of the magnetic moments below ~100 K in the NFL. The experimental results indicate the SG nature of the NFL. This SG state can be understood within the context of the competing ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions of similar energies.

In the last few years, magnetic nanowires have gained attention due to their potential implementation as building blocks in spintronics applications and, in particular, in domain-wall- based devices. In these devices, the control of the magnetic properties is a must. Cylindrical magnetic nanowires can be synthesized rather easily by electrodeposition and the control of their magnetic properties can be achieved by modulating the composition of the nanowire along the axial direction. In this work, we report the possibility of introducing changes in the composition along the radial direction, increasing the degrees of freedom to harness the magnetization. In particular, we report the synthesis, using template-assisted deposition, of FeNi (or Co) magnetic nanowires, coated with a Au/Co (Au/FeNi) bilayer. The diameter of the nanowire as well as the thickness of both layers can be tuned at will. In addition to a detailed structural characterization, we report a preliminary study on the magnetic properties, establishing the role of each layer in the global collective behavior of the system.

Oxide spinels of general formula AB2O4 (A = Mg2+, Fe2+; B = Al3+, Cr3+, etc.) constitute one of the most abundant crystalline structures in mineralogy. In this structure, cations distribute among octahedral and tetrahedral sites, according to their size and the crystal-field stabilization energy. The cationic arrangement determines the mechanical, magnetic, and transport properties of the spinel and can be influenced by external parameters like temperature, pressure, or epitaxial stress in the case of thin films. Here, we report a progressive change in the sign of the Poisson ratio, ν, in thin films of CoFe2O4, defining a smooth crossover from auxetic (ν < 0) to non-auxetic (ν > 0) behavior in response to epitaxial stress and temperature. Microstructural and magnetization studies, as well as ab initio calculations, demonstrate that such unusual elastic response is actually due to a progressive redistribution of Co2+ among the octahedral and tetrahedral sites of the spinel structure. The results presented in this work clarify a long standing controversy about the magnetic and elastic properties of Co-ferrites and are of general applicability for understanding the stress-relaxation mechanism in complex crystalline structures.

Spin-to-charge conversion is a central process in the emerging field of spintronics. One of its main applications is the electrical detection of spin currents, and for this, the inverse spin Hall effect (ISHE) has become one of the preferred methods. We studied the thickness dependence of the ISHE in iridium oxide (IrO2) thin films, producing spin currents by means of the spin Seebeck effect in γ−Fe2O3/IrO2 bilayers prepared by pulsed laser deposition (PLD). The observed ISHE charge current density, which features a maximum as a consequence of the spin diffusion length scale, follows the typical behaviour of spin-Hall-related phenomena. By fitting to the theory developed by Castel et al., we find that the spin Hall angle θSH scales proportionally to the thin film resistivity, θSH∝ρc, and obtains a value for the spin diffusion length λIrO2 of λIrO2=3.3(7) nm. In addition, we observe a negative θSH for every studied thickness and temperature, unlike previously reported works, which brings the possibility of tuning the desired functionality of high-resistance spin-Hall-based devices. We attribute this behaviour to the textured growth of the sample in the context of a highly anisotropic value of the spin Hall conductivity in this material.

The spin Hall effect (SHE) provides an efficient tool for the production of pure spin currents, essentially for the next generation of spintronics devices. Giant SHE has been reported in Cu doped with 0.5% Bi grown by sputtering, and larger values are predicted for larger Bi doping. In this work, we demonstrate the possibility of doping Cu with up to 10% of Bi atoms without evidence of Bi surface segregation or cluster formation. In addition, YIG/BiCu structures have been grown, showing a spin mixing conductance larger that the one shown by similar Pt/YIG structures, reflecting the potentiality of these new materials.

The biaxially textured growth of superconducting Co-doped BaFe2As2 (Ba-122) thin films has been realized on ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD) MgO coated conductor templates by employing an iron buffer architecture. The iron pnictide coated conductor showed a superconducting transition temperature of 21.5 K, which is slightly lower than that of Co-doped Ba-122 films on single crystalline MgO substrates. A self-field critical current density of over 105 A·cm-2 has already been achieved even at 8 K. The current experiment highlights the potential of possible coated conductor applications of the iron-based superconductors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
