Phase 1 consisted of identifying and developing EPAs; Phase 2 consisted of building a national consensus on developed EPAs (validation process); and Phase 3 consisted of mapping the validated EPAs with the Saudi Meds competency framework. Nominal group and modified Delphi techniques were used to develop consensus on EPAs. Classical test theory-based item analysis was conducted to establish validity and reliability of finalized EPAs.Results: Fifteen expert medical educationists and 109 academic leaders from 23 medical schools participated in the validation process. The study achieved a consensus on 10 core EPAs with an overall reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha) of 0.814. The item-total correlation ranged from 0.341 to 0.642.Conclusion: This study results in a national consensus on generic, comprehensive and region-specific EPAs that have been mapped with Saudi Meds competency framework. Although the toxicity of individual Fe3O4 or TiO2 NPs has been studied extensively, the toxicity of Janus Fe3O4-TiO2 NPs is not clear. Methods: In this study, the biosafety of both Janus Fe3O4-TiO2 NPs (20–25 nm) and the maternal material TiO2 NPs (7–10 nm) were evaluated in Sprague Dawley rats after one intravenous injection into the tail vein. Healthy rats were randomly divided into one control group and six experimental groups. Thirty days after treatment, rats were killed, then blood and tissue samples were collected for hematological, biochemical, element-content, histopathological, and Western blot analysis. Results: The results show that only a slight Ti element accumulation in the heart, spleen, and liver could be found in the Janus Fe3O4-TiO2 NP groups (P>0.05 compared with control). However, significant Ti element accumulation in the spleen, lungs, and liver was found in the TiO2 NP-treated rats. Both Fe3O4-TiO2 NPs and TiO2 NPs could induce certain histopathological abnormalities. Western blot analysis showed that both NPs could induce certain apoptotic or inflammatory-related molecular protein upregulation in rat livers. A certain degree of alterations in liver function and electrolyte and lipid parameters was also observed in rats treated with both materials. However, compared to Janus structure Fe3O4-TiO2 NP-treated groups, TiO2 NPs at 30 mg/kg showed more severe adverse effects. Conclusion: Our results showed that under a low dose (5 mg/kg), both NP types had no significant toxicity in rats. Janus NPs certainly seem less toxic than TiO2 NPs in rats at 30 mg/kg. To ensure safe use of these newly developed Janus NPs in cancer diagnosis and therapy, further animal studies are needed to evaluate long-term bioeffects. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study was conducted to document the ethnoveterinary medicinal (EVM) practices for the treatment of different parasitic diseases of livestock in Cholistan desert, Pakistan. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An initial reconnaissance survey (rapid rural appraisal) among the local shepherds was conducted to identify the traditional healers. Information was collected from the traditional healers using a well-structured questionnaire through open-ended interviews and guided dialogue technique. RESULTS: The parasitic diseases reported in livestock were: tick and lice infestation, mange, myiasis and helminthiasis. A total of 77 ethnoveterinary practices comprising of 49 based on plant usage and 28 based on dairy products, chemicals and other organic matter were documented. A total of 18 plant species representing 14 families were documented to treat the parasitic diseases. The plants included: Aerva javanica (Amaranthaceae), Aizoon carariense (Aizoaceae), Azadirachta indica (Meliaceae), Brassica campestris (Cruciferae), Capparis decidua (Capparaceae), Capsicum annuum (Solanaceae), Citrullus colocynthis (Cucurbitaceae), Cyperus rotundus (Cyperaceae), Calligonum polygonoides (Polygonaceae), Eruca sativa (Cruciferae), Ferula assafoetida (Umbelliferae), Haloxylon salicornicum (Chenopodiaceae), Mallotus philippinensis (Euphorbiaceae), Nicotiana tabacum (Solanaceae), Pinus roxburghii (Pinaceae), Salsola baryosma (Chenopodiaceae), Solanum surratens (Solanaceae) and Zingiber officinale (Zingiberaceae). CONCLUSION: The EVM practices documented in this study need to be validated using standard parasitological procedures. Issues that should be addressed are efficacy (vis-à-vis claims made by the respondents), quality, safety and standardization of doses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ovarian cancer, predominantly epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), is a global health concern due to its high mortality rate. Despite the progress made during the last two decades in the surgery and chemotherapy of ovarian cancer, more than 70% of advanced patients are with recurrent cancer and disease. Bevacizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody, which blocks VEGF signaling in cancer, inhibits angiogenesis and causes tumor shrinkage, and has been recently approved by the FDA as a monotherapy for advanced ovarian cancer in combination with chemotherapy. Unfortunately, Bevacizumab may also induce harmful adverse effects, such as hypertension, bleeding, arterial thromboembolism, poor wound healing and gastrointestinal perforation. Given the expensive cost and unwanted toxicities, there is an urgent need for predictive methods to identify who could benefit from bevacizumab. Of the 18 (approved) requests from 5 countries, 6 teams using 284 whole section WSIs for training to develop fully automated systems submitted their predictions on a test set of 180 tissue core images, with the corresponding ground truth labels kept private. This paper summarizes the 5 qualified methods successfully submitted to the international challenge of automated prediction of treatment effectiveness in ovarian cancer using the histopathologic images (ATEC23) held at the 26th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) in 2023 and evaluates the methods in comparison with 5 state of the art deep learning approaches. This study further assesses the effectiveness of the presented prediction models as indicators for patient selection utilizing both Cox proportional hazards analysis and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. A robust and cost-effective deep learning pipeline for digital histopathology tasks has become a necessity within the context of the medical community. This challenge highlights the limitations of current MIL methods, particularly within the context of prognosis-based classification tasks, and the importance of DCNNs like inception that has nonlinear convolutional modules at various resolutions to facilitate processing the data in multiple resolutions, which is a key feature required for pathology related prediction tasks. This further suggests the use of feature reuse at various scales to improve models for future research directions. Melanoma, known for its aggressive metastatic nature, presents a formidable challenge in cancer treatment, where conventional therapies often fall short. This study introduces a pioneering approach utilizing metal-free nanosystem as tumor vaccines, spotlighting their potential in revolutionizing melanoma treatment. This work employed organic nitroxides, specifically 4-carboxy-TEMPO, in combination with chitosan (CS), to create a novel nanocomposite material - the CS-TEMPO-OVA nanovaccines. This composition not only improves biocompatibility and extends blood circulation time of TEMPO but also marks a significant departure from traditional gadolinium-based contrast agents in MRI technology, addressing safety concerns. CS-TEMPO-OVA nanovaccines demonstrate excellent biocompatibility at both the cellular and organoid level. They effectively stimulate bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs), which in turn promote the maturation and activation of T cells. This ultimately leads to a strong production of essential cytokines. These nanovaccines serve a dual purpose as both therapeutic and preventive. By inducing an immune response, activating cytotoxic T cells, and promoting macrophage M1 polarization, they effectively inhibit melanoma growth and enhance survival in mouse models. When combined with αPD-1, the CS-TEMPO-OVA nanovaccines significantly bolster the infiltration of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) within tumors, sparking a powerful systemic antitumor response that effectively curbs tumor metastasis. The ability of these nanovaccines to control both primary (subcutaneous) and metastatic B16-OVA tumors highlights their remarkable efficacy. Furthermore, the CS-TEMPO-OVA nanovaccine can be administered in vivo via both intravenous and intramuscular routes, both of which effectively enhance the T 1 contrast of magnetic resonance imaging in tumor tissue. The murine model is invaluable for studying intricate interactions among gut microbes; hosts; and diseases. However; the impact of genetic variations in the murine microbiome; especially in disease contexts such as Klebsiella pneumoniae ( Kp ) infection; still needs to be explored. Kp ; an opportunistic global pathogen; is becoming increasingly prevalent in regions like Asia; especially China. This study explored the role of the gut microbiota during Kp infection using mouse model; including wild-type and rpoS mutants of Kp138; KpC4; and KpE4 from human; maize; and ditch water; respectively. Under stress conditions; RpoS reconfigures global gene expression in bacteria; shifting the cells from active growth to survival mode. Our study examined notable differences in microbiome composition; finding that Lactobacillus and Klebsiella (particularly in WKp138) were the most abundant genera in mice guts at the genus level in all wild-type treated mice. In contrast; Firmicutes were predominant in the healthy control mice. Furthermore; Clostridium was the dominant genus in all mutants; mainly in ∆KpC4; and was absent in wild-type treated mice. Differential abundance analysis identified that these candidate taxa potentially influence disease progression and pathogen virulence. Functional prediction analysis showed that most bacterial groups were functionally involved in biosynthesis; precursor metabolites; degradation; energy generation; and metabolic cluster formation. These findings challenge the conventional understanding and highlight the need for nuanced interpretations in murine studies. Additionally; this study sheds light on microbiome-immune interactions in K. pneumoniae infection and proposes new potential therapeutic strategies.

Tick infestation poses an important challenge to livestock in Pakistan. Farm management practices and environmental variables can influence tick infestation prevalence in animals. To this end, a cross-sectional survey of 96 farms in four different geographical districts (24 farms from each district) was conducted in Punjab, Pakistan, between October 2021 and January 2022. An epidemiological questionnaire was designed focusing on farm management practices and their impact on tick infestations at these farms. Data were collected via in-person interviews. Regional and farm-specific variables' associations were evaluated using Pearson's chi-square test and Fischer's exact test, respectively. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to identify significant risk factors. This study identified that using soft bedding materials, e.g., wheat straw, leaf litter or plain soil posed a significant risk of tick infestation. Additionally, the absence of quarantine measures, open sheds and inadequate drainage were found as contributing factors in univariable analysis. Higher tick prevalence in the hotter seasons highlighted the influence of Punjab's extreme weather on tick infestation. Despite regular veterinary visits and the use of acaricidal drugs, the prevalence of tick infestation at these farms suggested potential drug resistance in the ticks. The study recommended establishing quarantine practices, improving farms' drainage systems and bedding and using a combination of chemical and traditional remedies to tackle drug resistance in ticks. Education and awareness programs on tick-borne diseases and control measures are advocated to reduce the tick infestation burden on animals. Further research on longitudinal studies to better understand tick population dynamics and develop effective acaricides is encouraged. This called for collaborative control efforts among farmers, veterinarians and research institutions.

Bacterial infections present a major global challenge. Penicillin, a widely used antibiotic known for its effectiveness and safety, is frequently prescribed. However, its short half-life necessitates multiple high-dose daily administrations, leading to severe side-effects. Therefore, this study aims to address these issues by developing hydrogels which control the release of penicillin and alleviate its adverse effects. Various combinations of aspartic acid and acrylamide were crosslinked by N', N'-methylene bisacrylamide through a free radical polymerization process to prepare aspartic acid/acrylamide (Asp/Am) hydrogels. The fabricated hydrogels underwent comprehensive characterization to assess physical properties and thermal stability. The soluble and insoluble fractions and porosity of the synthesized matrix were evaluated by sol-gel and porosity studies. Gel fraction was estimated at 88-96%, whereas sol fraction was found 12-4% and porosity found within the 63-78% range for fabricated hydrogel formulations. Maximum swelling and drug release were seen at pH 7.4, demonstrating a controlled drug release from hydrogel networks. The results showed that swelling, porosity, gel fraction, and drug release increased with higher concentrations of aspartic acid and acrylamide. However, integration of N', N'-methylene bisacrylamide exhibited the opposite effect on swelling and porosity, while increasing gel fraction. All formulations followed the Korsymer-Peppas model of kinetics with ' r ' values within the range of 0.9740-0.9980. Furthermore, the cytotoxicity study indicated an effective and safe use of hydrogel because the cell viability was higher than 70%. Therefore, these prepared hydrogels show promise candidates for controlled release of Penicillin and are anticipated to be valuable in clinical applications.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most common primary tumor of the breast with limited effectual drug availability. Therefore, the aim of the study is to develop an innovative phyto-nanomedicine (PNM) to cure TNBC with the least genotoxicity. Hereinafter, the sea buckthorn' extracted polyphenols (SBP), combine with metformin (MET), are synthesized as a novel PNM to evaluate its anti-tumor properties, effectiveness, and mechanism of action in TNBC in vitro and in vivo models. The SBP exhibits 16 new kinds of polyphenols that are been reported earlier which regulated cell development, proliferation, and programmed cell death (PCD) effectively. SBP-MET PNM inhibits MDA-MB-231 (47%), MDA-MB-436 (46%), and 4T1 (46%) cell proliferation but does not affect L929 normal murine cell development and successfully induce PCD (73.19%) in MDA-MB-231 cells. Mechanistically, in vivo SBP-MET proteome expression profiling reveals upregulation of proapoptotic Bax protein and activation of Fas signaling pathways convince downstream Daxx and FADD proteins, which further triggers Caspase-3 that prompts apoptosis in human TNBC cells by cleaving PARP-1 protein. Current findings establish innovative highly biocompatible phyto-nanomedicine that has significant potential to inhibit TNBC cell growth and induce regulated cell death (RCD) in vivo model, thereby opening a new arena for TNBC therapy., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

External factors often lead to predictable damage, such as chemical injuries, burns, incisions, and wounds. Bacterial resistance to antibiotics at wound sites underscores the importance of developing hydrogel composite systems with inorganic nanoparticles possessing antibacterial properties to treat infected wounds and expedite the skin regeneration process. In this study, a promising TiO 2 -HAp@PF-127@CBM inorganic and organic integrated hydrogel system was designed to address challenges associated with bacterial resistance and wound healing. The synthesized TiO 2 -hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanocomposites were coated with an FDA-approved PluronicF-127 polymer and combined with a carbomer hydrogel (CBM) to accomplish the final product. The synthesized nanoparticles exhibit enhanced biocompatibility against L929 and HUVECs and cell proliferation effects. To mitigate oxidative stress caused by TiO 2 -induced reactive oxygen species in dark environments for effective antibacterial effects, HAp promotes cell proliferation, expediting wound skin layer formation. CBM binds to inorganic nanoparticles, facilitating their gradual release and promoting wound healing. The reduced inflammation and enhanced tissue regeneration observed in the TiO 2 -HAp@PF-127@CBM group suggest a favorable environment for wound repair. These results align with prior findings highlighting the biocompatibility and wound-healing properties of titanium-HAp-based materials. The ability of the TiO 2 -HAp@PF-127@CBM hydrogel dressing to promote granulation tissue formation and facilitate epidermal regeneration underscores its potential for promoting antibacterial effects and wound healing applications.

Since two-dimensionalal (2D) materials have distinct chemical and physical properties, they are widely used in various sectors of modern technologies. In the domain of diagnostic biodevices, particularly for point-of-care (PoC) biomedical diagnostics, 2D-based field-effect transistor biosensors (bio-FETs) demonstrate substantial potential. Here, in this review article, the operational mechanisms and detection capabilities of biosensing devices utilizing graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), black phosphorus, and other 2D materials are addressed in detail. The incorporation of these materials into FET-based biosensors offers significant advantages, including low detection limits (LOD), real-time monitoring, label-free diagnosis, and exceptional selectivity. The review also highlights the diverse applications of these biosensors, ranging from conventional to wearable devices, underscoring the versatility of 2D material-based FET devices. Additionally, the review provides a comprehensive assessment of the limitations and challenges faced by these devices, along with insights into future prospects and advancements. Notably, a detailed comparison of FET-based biosensors is tabulated along with various other biosensing platforms and their working mechanisms. Synergistic cancer therapies have attracted wide attention owing to their multi-mode tumor inhibition properties. Especially, photo-responsive photoimmunotherapy demonstrates an emerging cancer treatment paradigm that significantly improved treatment efficiency. Herein, near-infrared-II responsive ovalbumin functionalized Gold-Genipin nanosystem (Au-G-OVA NRs) was designed for immunotherapy and deep photothermal therapy of breast cancer. A facile synthesis method was employed to prepare the homogeneous Au nanorods (Au NRs) with good dispersion. The nanovaccine was developed further by the chemical cross-linking of Au-NRs, genipin and ovalbumin. The Au-G-OVA NRs outstanding aqueous solubility, and biocompatibility against normal and cancer cells. The designed NRs possessed enhanced localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect, which extended the NIR absorption in the second window, enabling promising photothermal properties. Moreover, genipin coating provided complimentary red fluorescent and prepared Au-G-OVA NRs showed significant intracellular encapsulation for efficient photoimmunotherapy outcomes. The designed nanosystem possessed deep photothermal therapy of breast cancer and 90% 4T1 cells were ablated by Au-G-OVA NRs (80 μ g ml -1 concentration) after 1064 nm laser irradiation. In addition, Au-G-OVA NRs demonstrated outstanding vaccination phenomena by facilitating OVA delivery, antigen uptake, maturation of bone marrow dendritic cells, and cytokine IFN- γ secretion for tumor immunosurveillance. Tissue-engineered skin substitutes (TESS) emerged as a new therapeutic option to improve skin transplantation. However, establishing an adequate and rapid vascularization in TESS is a critical factor for their clinical application and successful engraftment in patients. Therefore, several methods have been applied to improve the vascularization of skin substitutes including (i) modifying the structural and physicochemical properties of dermal scaffolds; (ii) activating biological scaffolds with growth factor-releasing systems or gene vectors; and (iii) developing prevascularized skin substitutes by loading scaffolds with capillary-forming cells. This review provides a detailed overview of the most recent and important developments in the vascularization strategies for skin substitutes. On the one hand, we present cell-based approaches using stem cells, microvascular fragments, adipose tissue derived stromal vascular fraction, endothelial cells derived from blood and skin as well as other pro-angiogenic stimulation methods. On the other hand, we discuss how distinct 3D bioprinting techniques and microfluidics, miRNA manipulation, cell sheet engineering and photosynthetic scaffolds like GelMA, can enhance skin vascularization for clinical applications. Finally, we summarize and discuss the challenges and prospects of the currently available vascularization techniques that may serve as a steppingstone to a mainstream application of skin tissue engineering., (© 2024. Multidrug-resistant bacteria have become the predominant etiology in bovine female reproductive tract infections and thus require effective treatment approaches. The main goal of this study was the molecular detection of mecA, blaZ, tetK, and aacA-aphD genes in Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) responsible for methicillin, beta-lactam, tetracycline, and aminoglycoside resistance respectively. Phylogenetic analysis was conducted to check the homology of staphylococcal genes with NCBI sequences. The in-vitro efficacy of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in combination therapies against MDR S. aureus was evaluated using well diffusion assay and checkerboard method. Vaginal swab samples (n = 384) collected from bovines suffering from endometritis, pyometra, and retained placenta were tested for S. aureus. Results showed a 17.96% overall prevalence. Both phenotypic and genotypic resistance was observed among S. aureus isolates with 50.72% and 37.68% isolates being confirmed as methicillin-resistant (MRSA), 36.23% and 18.84% isolates exhibiting beta-lactam, 40.58%, and 27.54% isolates showing tetracycline, and 33.33% and 36.23% isolates showing aminoglycosides resistance based on disc diffusion and gene confirmation, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis indicated homology with previously reported Pakistani isolates suggesting the possibility of MDR S. aureus transmission within and between animals. Synergy testing indicated that combinations of ceftriaxone-ketoprofen (153.77%), ceftriaxone-meloxicam (149.55%), amoxiclav-flunixin meglumine (106.06%), and oxytetracycline-flunixin meglumine (104.47%) showed synergy on well diffusion assay. Based on the fractional inhibitory concentration index by checkerboard method, oxytetracycline-meloxicam and gentamicin-ketoprofen combinations exhibited synergistic interaction. In conclusion, MDR S. aureus resistance was mitigated in-vitro through the combination of antibiotics (oxytetracycline, gentamicin) with NSAIDs (meloxicam, ketoprofen) that could be used to create therapeutic strategies for bovine reproductive issues., (© 2024. Purpose: Following a longitudinal study to understand how evidence-based practice evolves during the initial years of occupational therapy (OT) and physiotherapy (PT) practice, we held an end-of-grant symposium with representatives from education, practice, research, and policy. The objectives were to: (1) elicit feedback on the implications of the study results; and (2) co-develop a list of actionable recommendations for each sector., Methods: Qualitative participatory approach. The symposium was held over two half days and consisted of a presentation of study findings, a discussion on the implications of the research for each sector and future recommendations. Discussions were audio recorded, transcribed verbatim and analyzed using qualitative thematic analysis., Results: The themes related to implications of the longitudinal study included: (1) A need to rethink what evidence-based practice (EBP) really is; (2) How to practice EBP; and (3) The continuing challenge of measuring EBP. The co-development of actionable recommendations resulted in nine strategies., Conclusions: This study highlighted how we may collectively promote EBP competencies in future OTs and PTs. We generated sector-specific avenues that may be pursued to promote EBP and argued for the importance of pooling efforts from the four sectors so that we may achieve the intended ethos of EBP.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThere is a need to revisit the definition of evidence-based practice (EBP) and the traditional 3-circle model in rehabilitation to include a broader conceptualization of what constitutes evidence.We recommend using EBP measures as tools for self-reflection and professional development that can support practitioners to be reflective and accountable evidence-based practitioners.Optimal promotion of EBP competencies in occupational therapists and physiotherapists should rest upon collaborative efforts from the education, practice, research, and policy sectors.

With the wide potential of organic field-effect transistors in all the modern electronic circuitries, researchers are grappling with the challenge of poor charge transport and hence lower mobility in organic polymers. Low-charge carrier mobility is mainly due to disorder in the molecular packing of organic semiconductors along with other factors, such as impurities, defects and interactions between molecules. The current research work has been conducted to align the molecular chains of poly[4-(4,4-dihexadecyl-4H-cyclopenta[1,2-‌‌‌b:5,4-‌b']‌dithiophen-2-yl)-alt-[1,2,5]thiadiazolo-[3,4-c]pyridine] (PCDTPT) using directional coating techniques such as dip coating and brush coating on nano-grooved substrates. Long-range order of polymer chains was clearly observed along the direction of brush coating and nanogrooves in optical and atomic force microscope (AFM) images while transmission spectra confirmed decreased pi-pi stacking for the polymer films deposited by this technique. By comparing the mobility performance of brush-coated devices with other techniques, we found a remarkable mobility enhancement of 90 times that of conventional spin-coated device and 24 times enhancement compared with the dip-coated device for the case when the alignment of polymer chains was parallel to the channel. All the fabrication and characterizations were performed in the ambient environment. Precise diagnosis of complex and soft tumors is challenging, which limits appropriate treatment options to achieve desired therapeutic outcomes. However, multifunctional nano-sized contrast enhancement agents based on nanoparticles improve the diagnosis accuracy of various diseases such as cancer. Herein, a facile manganese-hafnium nanocomposites (Mn 3 O 4 -HfO 2 NCs) system was designed for bimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)/computed tomography (CT) contrast enhancement with a complimentary function of photodynamic therapy. The solvothermal method was used to fabricate NCs, and the average size of Mn 3 O 4 NPs and Mn 3 O 4 -HfO 2 NCs was about 7 nm and 15 nm, respectively, as estimated by TEM. Dynamic light scattering results showed good dispersion and high negative (-33 eV) zeta potential, indicating excellent stability in an aqueous medium. Mn 3 O 4 -HfO 2 NCs revealed negligible toxic effects on the NCTC clone 929 (L929) and mouse colon cancer cell line (CT26), demonstrating promising biocompatibility. The synthesized Mn 3 O 4 -HfO 2 NCs exhibit significant enhancement in T 1 -weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and X-ray computed tomography (CT), indicating the appropriateness for dual-modal MRI/CT molecular imaging probes. Moreover, ultra-small Mn 3 O 4 -HfO 2 NCs show good relaxivities for MRI/CT. These nanoprobes Mn 3 O 4 -HfO 2 NCs further possessed outstanding reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation ability under minute ultraviolet light (6 mW·cm -2 ) to ablate the colon cancer cells in vitro. Hybrid supercapacitors can produce extraordinary advances in specific power and energy to display better electrochemical performance and better cyclic stability. Amalgamating metal oxides with metal-organic frameworks endows the prepared composites with unique properties and advantageous possibilities for enhancing the electrochemical capabilities. The present study focused on the synergistic effects of the CuCo(5-NIPA)-Nd 2 O 3 composite. Employing a half-cell configuration, we conducted a comprehensive electrochemical analysis of CuCo(5-NIPA), Nd 2 O 3 , and their composite. Owing to the best performance of the composite, the hybrid device prepared from CuCo(5-NIPA)-Nd 2 O 3 and activated carbon demonstrated a specific capacity of 467.5 C g -1 at a scan rate of 3 mV s -1 , as well as a phenomenal energy and power density of 109.68 W h kg -1 and 4507 W kg -1 , respectively. Afterwards, semi-empirical techniques and models were used to investigate the capacitive and diffusive mechanisms, providing important insights into the unique properties of battery-supercapacitor hybrids. Co-creation is the active involvement of all stakeholders, including students, in educational design processes to improve the quality of education by embodying inclusivity, transparency and empowerment. Virtual co-creation has the potential to expand the utility of co-creation as an inclusive approach by overcoming challenges regarding the practicality and availability of stakeholders, typically experienced in face-to-face co-creation. Drawing from the literature and our experiences of virtual co-creation activities in different educational contexts, this twelve tips paper provides guidelines on how to effectively operationalize co-creation in a virtual setting. Our proposed three-phased approach (preparation, conduction, follow-up) might help those aiming to virtually co-create courses and programs by involving stakeholders beyond institutes and across borders.

The noble metal NPs that are currently applied to photothermal therapy (PTT) have their photoexcitation location mainly in the NIR-I range, and the low tissue penetration limits their therapeutic effect. The complexity of the tumor microenvironment (TME) makes it difficult to inhibit tumor growth completely with a single therapy. Although TME has a high level of H 2 O 2 , the intratumor H 2 O 2 content is still insufficient to catalyze the generation of sufficient hydroxide radicals (‧OH) to achieve satisfactory therapeutic effects. The AuPd-GOx-HA (APGH) was obtained from AuPd bimetallic nanodumbbells modified by glucose oxidase (GOx) and hyaluronic acid (HA) for photothermal enhancement of tumor starvation and cascade catalytic therapy in the NIR-II region. The CAT-like activity of AuPd alleviates tumor hypoxia by catalyzing the decomposition of H 2 O 2 into O 2 . The GOx-mediated intratumoral glucose oxidation on the one hand can block the supply of energy and nutrients essential for tumor growth, leading to tumor starvation. On the other hand, the generated H 2 O 2 can continuously supply local O 2 , which also exacerbates glucose depletion. The peroxidase-like activity of bimetallic AuPd can catalyze the production of toxic ‧OH radicals from H 2 O 2 , enabling cascade catalytic therapy. In addition, the high photothermal conversion efficiency (η = 50.7 %) of APGH nanosystems offers the possibility of photothermal imaging-guided photothermal therapy. The results of cell and animal experiments verified that APGH has good biosafety, tumor targeting, and anticancer effects, and is a precious metal nanotherapeutic system integrating glucose starvation therapy, nano enzyme cascade catalytic therapy, and PTT therapy. This study provides a strategy for photothermal-cascade catalytic synergistic therapy combining both exogenous and endogenous processes. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: AuPd-GOx-HA cascade nanoenzymes were prepared as a potent cascade catalytic therapeutic agent, which enhanced glucose depletion, exacerbated tumor starvation and promoted cancer cell apoptosis by increasing ROS production through APGH-like POD activity. The designed system has promising photothermal conversion ability in the NIR-II region, simultaneously realizing photothermal-enhanced catalysis, PTT, and catalysis/PTT synergistic therapy both in vitro and in vivo. Background: Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) have been extensively recognized as an active candidate for a large variety of biomedical applications. However, the clinical conversion of specific types of GNPs has been hindered due to their potential liver toxicity. The origin of their hepatotoxicity and the underlying key factors are still ambiguous. Because the size, shape, and surfactant of GNPs all affect their properties and cytotoxicity. An effective and sensitive platform that can provide deep insights into the cause of GNPs' hepatotoxicity in vitro is therefore highly desired., Methods: Here, hepatocyte organoid models (Hep-orgs) were constructed to evaluate the shape-dependent hepatotoxicity of GNPs. Two types of GNPs with different nanomorphology, gold nanospheres (GNSs) and spiny gold nanobranches (GNBs), were synthesized as the representative samples. Their shape-dependent effects on mice Hep-orgs' morphology, cellular cytoskeletal structure, mitochondrial structure, oxidative stress, and metabolism were carefully investigated., Results: The results showed that GNBs with higher spikiness and tip curvature exhibited more significant cytotoxicity compared to the rounded GNSs. The spike structure of GNBs leads to a mitochondrial damage, oxidative stress, and metabolic disorder in Hep-orgs. Meanwhile, similar trends can be observed in HepG2 cells and mice models, demonstrating the reliability of the Hep-orgs., Conclusions: Hep-orgs can serve as an effective platform for exploring the interactions between GNPs and liver cells in a 3D perspective, filling the gap between 2D cell models and animal models. Background: Health care providers are mandated to deliver specialized care for the treatment and control of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In Malaysia, Diabetes Medication Therapy Adherence Clinics (DMTAC) in tertiary hospitals have designated pharmacists to administer these services., Objective: To assess the effects of pharmacist-led interventions within DMTAC on the outcomes of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in two distinct hospitals in Kedah, Malaysia., Methods: Patients with type 2 diabetes were randomly selected from the two hospitals included in this study. The study population was divided into two equal groups. The control group consisted of 200 patients receiving routine care from the hospitals. On the other hand, the intervention group included those patients with type 2 diabetes (200), who received separate counseling sessions from pharmacists in the DMTAC departments along with the usual treatment. The study lasted 1 year, during which both study groups participated in two distinct visits., Results: Parametric data were analyzed by a paired t -test and one-way ANOVA, while non-parametric data were analyzed by a Chi-squared test using SPSS v24. A p  < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. The study presented the results of a greater reduction in HBA1c levels in the intervention group compared to the control group, i.e., 3.59 and 2.17% ( p  < 0.001). Moreover, the Systolic and Diastolic values of BP were also significantly reduced in the intervention group, i.e., 9.29 mmHg/7.58 mmHg ( p  < 0.005). Furthermore, cholesterol levels were significantly improved in patients in the intervention group, i.e., 0.87 mmol/L ( p  < 0.001)., Conclusion: Based on the findings of the current study it has been proven that the involvement of pharmacists leads to improved control of diabetes mellitus. Therefore, it is recommended that the government initiate DMTAC services in both private and government hospitals and clinics throughout Malaysia. The development of non-noble metal based and cost-effective electrocatalysts for water splitting has attracted significant attention due to their potential in production of clean and green hydrogen fuel. Discovered in 2011, a family of two-dimensional transition metal carbides, nitrides, and carbonitrides, have demonstrated promising performance as electro catalysts in the water splitting process due to their high electrical conductivity, very large surface area and abundant catalytic active sites. However, their-long term stability and recyclability are limited due to restacking and agglomeration of MXene flakes. This problem can be solved by combining MXene with other materials to create their hybrid architectures which have demonstrated higher electrocatalytic performance than pristine MXenes. Electrolysis of water encompasses two half-cell reactions, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at the cathode and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at the anode. Firstly, this concise review explains the mechanism of water splitting. Then it provides an overview of the recent advances about applications of MXenes and their hybrid architectures as HER, OER and bifunctional electrocatalysts for overall water splitting. Finally, the recent challenges and potential outlook in the field have been presented. With the increasing popularity of photocatalytic technology and the highly growing issues of energy scarcity and environmental pollution, there is an increasing interest in extremely efficient photocatalytic systems. The widespread immense attention and applicability of Nb 2 O 5 photocatalysts can be attributed to their multiple benefits, including strong redox potentials, non-toxicity, earth abundance, corrosion resistance, and efficient thermal and chemical stability. However, the large-scale application of Nb 2 O 5 is currently impeded by the barriers of rapid recombination loss of photo-activated electron/hole pairs and the inadequacy of visible light absorption. To overcome these constraints, plentiful design strategies have been directed at modulating the morphology, electronic band structure, and optical properties of Nb 2 O 5 . The current review offers an extensive analysis of Nb 2 O 5 -based photocatalysts, with a particular emphasis on crystallography, synthetic methods, design strategies, and photocatalytic mechanisms. Key Message: We developed an array of Zea-Tripsacum tri-hybrid allopolyploids with multiple ploidies. We unveiled that changes in genome dosage due to the chromosomes pyramiding and shuffling of three species effects karyotypic heterogeneity, reproductive diversity, and phenotypic variation in Zea-Tripsacum allopolyploids. Polyploidy, or whole genome duplication, has played a major role in evolution and speciation. The genomic consequences of polyploidy have been extensively studied in many plants; however, the extent of chromosomal variation, genome dosage, phenotypic diversity, and heterosis in allopolyploids derived from multiple species remains largely unknown. To address this question, we synthesized an allohexaploid involving Zea mays, Tripsacum dactyloides, and Z. perennis by chromosomal pyramiding. Subsequently, an allooctoploid and an allopentaploid were obtained by hybridization of the allohexaploid with Z. perennis. Moreover, we constructed three populations with different ploidy by chromosomal shuffling (allopentaploid × Z. perennis, allohexaploid × Z. perennis, and allooctoploid × Z. perennis). We have observed 3 types of sexual reproductive modes and 2 types of asexual reproduction modes in the tri-species hybrids, including 2n gamete fusion (2n + n), haploid gamete fusion (n + n), polyspermy fertilization (n + n + n) or 2n gamete fusion (n + 2n), haploid gametophyte apomixis, and asexual reproduction. The tri-hybrids library presents extremely rich karyotype heterogeneity. Chromosomal compensation appears to exist between maize and Z. perennis. A rise in the ploidy of the trihybrids was linked to a higher frequency of chromosomal translocation. Variation in the degree of phenotypic diversity observed in different segregating populations suggested that genome dosage effects phenotypic manifestation. These findings not only broaden our understanding of the mechanisms of polyploid formation and reproductive diversity but also provide a novel insight into genome pyramiding and shuffling driven genome dosage effects and phenotypic diversity., (© 2024. Efficient energy storage and conversion is crucial for a sustainable society. Battery-supercapacitor hybrid energy storage devices offer a promising solution, bridging the gap between traditional batteries and supercapacitors. In this regard, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as the most versatile functional compounds owing to their captivating structural features, unique properties, and extensive diversity of applications in energy storage. MOF properties are governed by the structure and topological characteristics, which are influenced by the types of ligands and metal nodes. Herein, MOFs based on pyridine 3,5-dicarboxylate (PYDC) ligand in combination with copper and cobalt are electrochemically analyzed. Owing to the promising initial characterization of Cu-PYDC-MOF, a battery supercapacitor hybrid device was fabricated, comprising Cu-PYDC-MOF and activated carbon (AC) electrodes. The device showcased energy and power density of 17 W h kg -1 and 2550 W kg -1 , respectively. Dunn's model was employed to gain deeper insights into the capacitive and diffusive contributions of the device. The development of electrode materials with extraordinary energy densities or high power densities has experienced a spectacular upsurge because of significant advances in energy storage technology. In recent years, the family of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has become an essential contender for electrode materials. Herein, two cobalt-based MOFs are synthesized with distinct linkers named 1,2,4,5-benzene-tetra-carboxylic acid (BTCA) and 1,2,3,4-cyclopentane-tetracarboxylic acid (CPTC). Investigations have been rigorously conducted to fully understand the effect of linkers on the electrochemical properties of Co-based MOFs. The best sample among the MOFs was used with activated carbon to create a battery-supercapacitor hybrid device. Due to its noteworthy results, specific capacity (100.3 C g -1 ), energy density (23 W h kg -1 ), power density (3400 W kg -1 ) and with the lowest ESR value of 0.4 Ω as well as its 95.4% capacity retention, the fabricated hybrid device was discovered to be very appealing for applications demanding energy storage. An approach for evaluating battery-supercapacitors was employed by quantifying the capacitive and diffusive contributions using Dunn's model to reflect the bulk and surface processes occurring during charge storage. Objective: To explore the perception of residents regarding the microlearning environment of orthodontic postgraduate training programmes across Pakistan., Study Design: Descriptive, cross-sectional, multicentre study. Place and Duration of the Study: Department of Orthodontics, Dental College, HITEC Institute of Medical Sciences, Taxila, from February to July 2022., Methodology: This questionnaire-based study was conducted using a pre-validated HEMLEM tool for data collection. QuestionPro survey tool was utilised for data collection and SPSS version 23 was used for data analysis. Independent t-test and one-way ANOVA were performed for comparison of different subgroups., Results: A total of 204 residents participated in this study and collectively showed a mean score of 45.2. Male residents showed significantly higher level of satisfaction than females. Residents below the age of 25 years and those in the first year of training showed maximum level of satisfaction with their learning environments. In general, participants perceived the teaching quality and supervision as more satisfactory than the staff attitude and behaviour., Conclusion: Overall, a higher HEMLEM score was recorded, which suggested that Pakistani orthodontic residents felt satisfied with their microlearning environment. Introduction: Contextual factors can influence healthcare professionals' (HCPs) competencies, yet there is a scarcity of research on how to optimally measure these factors. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a comprehensive tool for HCPs to document the contextual factors likely to influence the maintenance, development, and deployment of professional competencies., Methods: We used DeVellis' 8-step process for scale development and Messick's unified theory of validity to inform the development and validation of the context tool. Building on results from a scoping review, we generated an item pool of contextual factors articulated around five themes: Leadership and Agency, Values, Policies, Supports, and Demands. A first version of the tool was pilot tested with 127 HCPs and analyzed using the classical test theory. A second version was tested on a larger sample (n = 581) and analyzed using the Rasch rating scale model., Results: First version of the tool: we piloted 117 items that were grouped as per the themes related to contextual factors and rated on a 5-point Likert scale. Cronbach alpha for the set of 12 retained items per scale ranged from 0.75 to 0.94. Second version of the tool included 60 items: Rasch analysis showed that four of the five scales (ie, Leadership and Agency, Values, Policies, Supports) can be used as unidimensional scales, whereas the fifth scale (Demands) had to be split into two unidimensional scales (Demands and Overdemands)., Discussion: Validity evidence documented for content and internal structure is encouraging and supports the use of the McGill context tool. Student-staff partnership advocates the active involvement of students' voices in the design of education. Although the concept of student-staff partnership is rapidly gaining momentum in health professions education, the current practices are more outcome-focused and pay less attention to the partnership process itself. Students' involvement in most of the claimed partnerships has been viewed as input information to the educational design process rather than inviting them to the more pronounced role as partners. In this commentary, we elaborate on different levels of students' involvement in educational design, before highlighting the possible dynamics between students and staff in partnership. We propose five key features of dynamics involved in the process of real student-staff partnerships and a Process-Outcome Model for Student-staff Partnership. We advocate that moving beyond outcomes and diving deeper into the partnership processes is the way forward to establishing true student-staff partnerships.

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have attracted much attention as promising tools in renewable energy conversion technology. This is mainly because of their beneficial qualities, such as their impressive efficiency levels and low-cost fabrication techniques. An overview of MXene-modified electrodes in DSSCs is given in this review article. MXenes are two-dimensional (2D) transition metal carbides or nitrides with remarkable properties such as high conductivity and large surface area. MXenes' properties make them an appealing material for various applications, including energy storage, catalysis, and electronic devices. MXene integration enhances ion transport, dye adsorption, and charge transport in DSSC electrodes. In-depth analysis of the use of 2D Mxene and integration with carbon nanotubes (CNTs), reduced graphene oxide (rGO), 2D MoS 2 , and hybrids like 2D-2D heterostructures for electrode modification in photovoltaics (PVs), including anodes, photoanodes, composite decorated electrodes, counter electrodes (CEs), and electrolytes, is provided in this review article. The effects on the performance metrics of various deposition techniques are discussed and assessed. The use of MXene-modified electrodes in DSSCs suggests potential for enhancing the performance and efficiency of these solar cells in general. The article examines this strategy's potential advantages and implications, illuminating the fascinating advancements in the area and emphasizing MXenes' potential as a valuable substance for renewable energy applications. We also discuss the difficulties and potential benefits of using MXene-modified electrodes in DSSCs and emphasize the need for additional study to enhance stability, optimize MXene integration techniques, and enhance long-term device performance. The scalability and potential of MXene-based electrode modifications for commercial applications are also covered, addressing issues and prospects for the future, focusing on the necessity of more study. Electrodes modified with MXenes can improve DSSC performance and advance sustainable energy conversion.

A previous metabolomic and genome-wide association analysis of maize screened a glucose-6-phosphate 1-epimerase ( ZmG6PE ) gene, which responds to low-phosphorus (LP) stress and regulates yield in maize's recombinant inbred lines (RILs). However, the relationship of ZmG6PE with phosphorus and yield remained elusive. This study aimed to elucidate the underlying response mechanism of the ZmG6PE gene to LP stress and its consequential impact on maize yield. The analysis indicated that ZmG6PE required the Aldose&#95;epim conserved domain to maintain enzyme activity and localized in the nucleus and cell membrane. The zmg6pe mutants showed decreased biomass and sugar contents but had increased starch content in leaves under LP stress conditions. Combined transcriptome and metabolome analysis showed that LP stress activated plant immune regulation in response to the LP stress through carbon metabolism, amino acid metabolism, and fatty acid metabolism. Notably, LP stress significantly reduced the synthesis of glucose-1-phosphate, mannose-6-phosphate, and β-alanine-related metabolites and changed the expression of related genes. The global burden of cancer is increasing rapidly, and nanomedicine offers promising prospects for enhancing the life expectancy of cancer patients. Janus nanoparticles (JNPs) have garnered considerable attention due to their asymmetric geometry, enabling multifunctionality in drug delivery and theranostics. However, achieving precise control over the self-assembly of JNPs in solution at the nanoscale level poses significant challenges. Herein, a low-temperature reversed-phase microemulsion system was used to obtain homogenous Mn 3 O 4 -Ag 2 S JNPs, which showed significant potential in cancer theranostics. Structural characterization revealed that the Ag 2 S (5-10 nm) part was uniformly deposited on a specific surface of Mn 3 O 4 to form a Mn 3 O 4 -Ag 2 S Janus morphology. Compared to the single-component Mn 3 O 4 and Ag 2 S particles, the fabricated Mn 3 O 4 -Ag 2 S JNPs exhibited satisfactory biocompatibility and therapeutic performance. Novel diagnostic and therapeutic nanoplatforms can be guided using the magnetic component in JNPs, which is revealed as an excellent T 1 contrast enhancement agent in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with multiple functions, such as photo-induced regulation of the tumor microenvironment via producing reactive oxygen species and second near-infrared region (NIR-II) photothermal excitation for in vitro tumor-killing effects. The prime antibacterial and promising theranostics results demonstrate the extensive potential of the designed photo-responsive Mn 3 O 4 -Ag 2 S JNPs for biomedical applications.

Electrochemical energy storage devices run on two fundamentally different processes: charge storage across the double layer and redox reactions. A satisfactory understanding of the underlying mechanism is only possible once the two contributions are deconvoluted. The b-value and the ν -ν 1/2 model are two familiar steps undertaken to separate these contributions but as it is shown here both metrics are flawed, prone to misinterpretation, frequently invoked without attention to their limitations, and in need of re-examination. After exploring these flaws through the lens of a diverse set of cyclic voltammetry data we opine that use of the b-value be discouraged on account of subjectivity inherent to the metric, and the ν -ν 1/2 model be replaced by the one proposed here. Process Capability Indices (PCIs) are very helpful to measure the manufacturing capability and production quality of the products in many manufacturing processes. These PCIs are calculated by using a relationship between process mean and standard deviation, provided that process follows a normal distribution. In case of non-normal processes many researchers recommended the use of robust PCIs by modifying the classical PCIs. In case of robust PCIs most of the work is reported on first- and second-generation PCIs but less work is reported on third generation PCIs. The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of three dispersion measures, namely median absolute deviation (MAD), interquartile range (IQR), and Gini's mean difference (GMD), as a measure of dispersion in third generation PCIs and construct their bootstrap confidence intervals (CIs). The efficacy of these measures is compared with quantile-based PCIs under different asymmetric behaviour of the Weibull process. The results showed that quantile-based PCIs are strongly influenced by high asymmetry and IQR method provides a poor estimator across all sample sizes. On the other hand, the GMD method performed well under low, moderate, and high asymmetry of the Weibull process, but its irregular behavior needs to be addressed carefully. Among all selected four methods MAD-method performed better under low and moderate asymmetric conditions. In case of interval estimation, bias-corrected percentile (BCPB) CIs was recommended for quantile-based PCIs, while percentile (PB) and percentile-t (PTB) CIs were recommended for MAD-based PCIs under all asymmetric conditions. The extraordinary success of deep learning is made possible due to the availability of crowd-sourced large-scale training datasets. Mostly, these datasets contain personal and confidential information, thus, have great potential of being misused, raising privacy concerns. Consequently, privacy-preserving deep learning has become a primary research interest nowadays. One of the prominent approaches adopted to prevent the leakage of sensitive information about the training data is by implementing differential privacy during training for their differentially private training, which aims to preserve the privacy of deep learning models. Though these models are claimed to be a safeguard against privacy attacks targeting sensitive information, however, least amount of work is found in the literature to practically evaluate their capability by performing a sophisticated attack model on them. Recently, DP-BCD is proposed as an alternative to state-of-the-art DP-SGD, to preserve the privacy of deep-learning models, having low privacy cost and fast convergence speed with highly accurate prediction results. To check its practical capability, in this article, we analytically evaluate the impact of a sophisticated privacy attack called the membership inference attack against it in both black box as well as white box settings. More precisely, we inspect how much information can be inferred from a differentially private deep model's training data. We evaluate our experiments on benchmark datasets using AUC, attacker advantage, precision, recall, and F1-score performance metrics.
