The biomedical research process must follow certain quality criteria in its design and development to ensure that the results are credible and reliable. Once completed, the time comes to write an article for publication. The article must present in sufficient detail, and in a clear and transparent manner, all the information on the research work that has been carried out. In this way, readers, after a critical reading of the published content, will be able to judge the validity and relevance of the study and, if they so wish, make use of the findings.In order to improve the description of the research process for publication, a series of guidelines have been developed which, in a simple and structured way, guide authors in the preparation of a manuscript. They are presented in the form of a list, flowchart, or structured text, and are an invaluable aid when writing an article.This article presents the reporting guidelines for the most common designs along with the corresponding checklists. Resumen: El proceso de investigación biomédica debe seguir unos criterios de calidad en su diseño y elaboración, que garanticen que los resultados son creíbles y fiables. Una vez finalizado, llega el momento de escribir un artículo para su publicación. Este debe presentar con suficiente detalle, y de forma clara y transparente, toda la información del trabajo de investigación realizado. De esta forma, los lectores, tras una lectura crítica de lo publicado, podrán juzgar la validez y la relevancia del estudio, y si lo consideran, utilizar los hallazgos.Con el objetivo de mejorar la descripción del proceso de investigación para su publicación, se han desarrollado una serie de guías que, de forma sencilla y estructurada, orientan a los autores a la hora de elaborar un manuscrito. Se presentan en forma de lista, diagrama de flujo, o texto estructurado, y son una ayuda inestimable a la hora de escribir un artículo.Este artículo presenta las guías de elaboración de manuscritos de los diseños más habituales, con sus listas de verificación.

A partir de la revisión de un cuerpo de investigaciones relacionadas con los conceptos de “Desarrollo curricular”, “Enacted Curriculum”, “Decisiones curriculares”, “Construcciones curriculares” y “Currículum deliberativo”, el presente artículo propone conceptualizar las decisiones curriculares en la puesta en acción del currículum desde tres enfoques diferentes: Implementación de la norma prescrita, reinterpretación contextualizada y construcción curricular de base. Los tres enfoques se desarrollan a partir de la forma en que se asume el proceso de deliberación curricular y las consecuencias sobre la construcción misma del currículum. En el artículo se presentan los antecedentes del proceso de exploración bibliográfica; la descripción del marco de definiciones generales que organizan la presentación del ejercicio de conceptualización; la presentación pormenorizada de la propuesta conceptual, y, al cierre, las conclusiones asociadas al ejercicio realizado.

La Sociedad Chilena de Obstetricia y Ginecología (SOCHOG) y la Sociedad Chilena de Ultrasonido en Medicina y Biología (SOCHUMB) convocaron a un comité de expertos en el tema de ultrasonido y crecimiento fetal con el fin de proponer utilizar la curva fetal que mejor se adapte a la población chilena. Luego de la discusión, al no contar con curvas chilenas de crecimiento fetal, se concluye proponer que la curva estándar de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) sería la indicada dada la calidad de su metodología y por ser multicéntrica.

In a context marked by restrictions due to COVID-19 pandemic, this article analyses the impact of COVID-19 on Basque musicians' activity, income, future expectations and life satisfaction. A survey was conducted in 2021 among Basque musicians belonging to MUSIKARI association. Associations among selected variables were analysed calculating correlation rates and conducting inference tests using SPSS software (IBM SPSS statistics). We found that despite the severe damage done by COVID-19 on musicians' activity and income, this damage has been homogeneous among different types of musicians. We also find that future expectations are strongly conditioned by musicians' characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Workers' health and safety, and equality between men and women are two of the main challenges currently facing the labor framework in Spain. Despite the fact that the different risks faced by men and women have been widely studied, the way in which gender can affect the working conditions and career development of occupational health and safety (OHS) technicians has hardly been investigated. To delve into this aspect, a study has been carried out by conducting semistructured interviews with six women who work as OHS technicians and a survey among OHS technicians in the Basque Country (Spain) with 124 responses. The results suggest that there are differences between men and women both in the conditions and in the career development of the OHS technician profession. These differences appear in various thematic blocks such as empowerment, recognition, or aspirations. Women tend to be more skeptical than men on gender equality issues such as the idea of equal promotion opportunities for men and women, or the notion that men's and women's ideas are equally valued, or the way in which having children affects men and women's aspirations. It is very important to reduce these gender differences to achieve a more efficient work environment, which can lead to more efficient OHS management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Optimization of Hematology Patient's treatment: It is possible to obtain a 100% CD34+ recovery after CD34+ selection using the CliniMACS Prodigy.

Abstract Thymomas are tumours frequently associated with autoimmune manifestations or immunodeficiencies like Good syndrome. In rare cases, pure white cells aplasia (PWCA) has been described in association with thymomas. PWCA is characterized by agranulocytosis of autoimmune background primary refractory to granulocyte colony‐stimulating factor (G‐CSF). It is necessary the use of immunosuppressor to allow granulocyte recovery. Without treatment, it could be fatal.

En este artículo se estudia la estructura “artículo definido + nombre propio antropónimo” y su distribución de uso en casos de antropónimos femeninos y masculinos. Se parte del supuesto de que esta estructura es más frecuente cuando el antropónimo es femenino (“la Violeta” y no “el Nicanor”). Al ser expletiva la presencia del artículo ante los sustantivos propios y, por el contrario, ser requerido su uso o el de otro determinante, en posiciones sintácticas específicas, ante los sustantivos comunes, la aparición del artículo definido precediendo al antropónimo femenino podría ser una marca del prejuicio social hacia la mujer. Para corroborar esta hipótesis, se realizó un rastreo del fenómeno estudiado en textos de prensa escrita chilena, con el objetivo de analizar su aparición y frecuencia de uso en los casos de antropónimo femenino y masculino.

Abstract. Daratumumab is a human CD38-targeted monoclonal antibody approved as monotherapy for heavily pretreated relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma. We report findings for the Spanish cohort of an open-label treatment protocol that provided early access to daratumumab monotherapy and collected safety and patient-reported outcomes data for patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. At 15 centers across Spain, intravenous daratumumab (16 mg/kg) was administered to 73 patients who had ≥3 prior lines of therapy, including a proteasome inhibitor and an immunomodulatory drug, or who were double refractory to both. The median duration of daratumumab treatment was 3.3 (range: 0.03–13.17) months, with a median number of 12 (range: 1–25) infusions. Grade 3/4 treatment-emergent adverse events were reported in 74% of patients and included lymphopenia (28.8%), thrombocytopenia (27.4%), neutropenia (21.9%), leukopenia (19.2%), and anemia (15.1%). Common (>5%) serious treatment-emergent adverse events included respiratory tract infection (9.6%), general physical health deterioration (6.8%), and back pain (5.5%). Infusion-related reactions occurred in 45% of patients. The median change from baseline in all domains of the EQ-5D-5L and EORTC QLQ-C30 was mostly 0. A total of 18 (24.7%) patients achieved a partial response or better, with 10 (13.7%) patients achieving a very good partial response or better. Median progression-free survival was 3.98 months. The results of this early access treatment protocol are consistent with previously reported trials of daratumumab monotherapy and confirm its safety and antitumoral efficacy in Spanish patients with heavily treated relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. This article describes the operational practices of the city morgue in Santiago, Chile and their effects on the family members who come to claim the bodies of their loved ones. It explores the impact of the body‘s passage through the morgue on the observance of rituals surrounding death and mourning. An underlying conflict can be identified between the states partial appropriation of and interference with the body and intrinsic needs associated with the performance of funeral rites in accordance with cultural and religious precepts.

Three courses of the second year degree in Environmental Engineering (Geology and Pedology, Ecology and Economics and Business Administration) have been remodeled using the Problem-Based Learning methodology. The proposed problem is a real-life and integrative problem related to their specialization which must be solved in these three courses at the same time. The results reveal that during this experience students were considerably more active, cooperative and involved, and the success rate doubled that of similar engineering courses of the Faculty. Regarding students’ opinion, it should be emphasized that they perceive that this method is functional and encouraging. A high percentage of the students describe the experience as positive or very positive. Additionally, they stated that the Problem-Based Learning promoted the development of skills that, in their own view, are essential for their career, such as teamwork and communication.

Hidrops fetal no inmunológico diagnosticado a las 22 semanas de gestación, secundario a infección por Parvovirus B19, tratado exitosamente con cinco transfusiones intrauterinas. Parto vaginal con recién nacido de término sin estigmas de enfermedad. Enfatizamos la importancia de sospechar el diagnóstico, el manejo basado en Vmax de ACM y la capacidad actual de tratamiento exitoso a través de transfusiones intrauterinas.Non immunologic hydrops fetalis diagnosed at 22 weeks of gestation, secondary to infection by Parvovirus B19, successfully treated with five intrauterine transfusions. Vaginal delivery at 37 weeks without stigmata of disease. We emphasize the importance of suspecting the diagnosis, management based on Vmax of ACM and the current capacity of successful treatment by intrauterine transfusion.

Estudiamos los niveles y patrones de variabilidad genética de ocho especies de peces nativos de la cuenca del río San Pedro (cuenca del río Valdivia, Región de los Ríos, Chile), con el objetivo de evaluar diferencias microevolutivas en especies sometidas a similares condiciones ecológicas e históricas. Las especies consideradas fueron: Diplomystes camposensis, Percilia gillissi, Galaxias platei, G. maculatus, Basilichthys australis, Percichthys trucha, Aplochiton taeniatus y A. zebra. Para ello comparamos indicadores de diversidad genética tanto intra como inter-zonas, e indicadores de estructuración, basados en secuencias de la región de control, para diferentes tramos a lo largo del desarrollo del río. También recuperamos relaciones de parentesco entre haplotipos y su distribución espacial, para cada especie, a partir de redes construidas por parsimonia estadística. Además estimamos indicadores de comportamiento demográfico en el pasado (D de Tajima, Fs de Fu y distribución de frecuencias de diferencias pareadas). Los resultados sugieren que, tanto los patrones de diversidad genética en el río, como las respuestas demográficas, son especie específicos. Las especies más variables, conjuntamente con un alto grado de estructuración y bajo flujo génico en el río son G. maculatus y A. taeniatus. P. trucha mostró altos niveles de estructuración pero valores menores de variabilidad que el par de especies anterior. Las especies menos variables y menos subdivididas en la cuenca son Diplomystes camposensis y P. gillissi. Las demás especies mostraron niveles de variabilidad y estructuración intermedios entre los patrones extremos señalados para las especies anteriores. Las diferencias entre especies se atribuyen a atributos biológicos idiosincráticos tales como nivel de especialización en el uso de hábitat acuático, abundancias poblacionales históricas y comportamientos migratorios. En el caso de Galaxias maculatus, los altos niveles de variabilidad son atribuidos a la mantención histórica de altos tamaños poblacionales, gracias a la posibilidad de usar tanto hábitats marinos como dulceacuícolas. Mientras que los bajos niveles de diversidad e indicadores de variación histórica de tamaños efectivos poblacionales, sugieren que Diplomystes camposensis y Percilia gillissi fueron especies más sensibles y sometidas a reducciones poblacionales en el pasado. Se discuten los resultados en torno a factores ecológicos, biológicos e históricos.We studied the levels and patterns of genetic variability in eight species of native fishes from the Valdivia River Basin (Región de los Rios, Chile), with the aim to estimate microevolutionary differences in species with similar ecological and historical conditions. The species considered were Diplomystes camposensis, Percilia gillissi, Galaxias platei, G. maculatus, Basilichthys australis, Percichthys trucha, Aplochiton zebra and A. taeniatus. We compared genetic diversity indexes both intra and inter-zones, and genetic structure, based on sequences of the control region for different sections along the river. In addition, we recovered relationships among haplotypes and their spatial distribution for each species, based on statistical parsimony networks. Estimators of past demographic behavior (D Tajima, Fs-Fu and mismatch analysis were also obtained. The results suggest that both patterns of genetic diversity in the river such as demographic responses are species specific. The most variable and strongest structured species in the river were G. maculatus and A. taniatus. P. trucha showed high structure values but its genetic variation was lower than the first two species. The less variable and less subdivided species were D. camposensis and P. gillissi. The remaining species showed levels of variability and structure intermediate between the two extreme patterns mentioned above. The differences among species are attributed to idiosyncratic biological attributes such as level of specificity in the use of aquatic habitat, population abundances, and historical migration patterns. In the case of G. maculatus, high levels of variability are attributed to the historical maintenance of high and stable effective population sizes, due to the ability to use both marine and freshwater habitats. Low levels of genetic diversity and indicators of historical reduction in effective population size, suggests that D. camposensis and P.gillissi were more sensitive and more exposed to population reduction. Results are discussed regarding ecological, biological, and historical factors.

En solo 50 años la enfermedad hemolítica perinatal por isoinmunización anti D pasó de ser una enfermedad sin etiología conocida, incurable y no prevenible, a la situación actual en que por las técnicas de prevención, diagnóstico oportuno y tratamiento especializado tiene baja incidencia y altas expectativas de sobrevida, incluso en los casos más severos. Se describe la historia, las técnicas de prevención, diagnóstico, manejo y tratamiento de la enfermedad.In just 50 years the perinatal hemolytic disease due to RhD isoimmunization went from being a disease without known etiology, untreatable and not preventable to the current situation in which the prevention techniques, opportune diagnosis and specialized treatment has low its incidence and has an expected high survival even in the more severe cases. This article describes the history, prevention techniques, diagnosis, management and treatment of the disease.

Se presenta el caso clínico de una mujer de 60 años que acude al Servicio de Ginecología y Obstetricia del Hospital Padre Hurtado, bajo la sospecha de un mioma cervical pequeño. Se realiza una ecografía transva-ginal la cual evidencia incidentalmente un tumor vesical sólido, vascularizado, intravesical y dependiente de la mucosa. La paciente no refería espontáneamente hematuria. El estudio urológico definitivo es de un carcinoma papilar de células transicionales. El tratamiento endoscópico logró la resección completa del tumor. El hallazgo ecográfico permitió realizar el diagnóstico en una forma poco habitual para esta enfermedad, aprovechando una instancia definida para otros fines. Se rescata la importancia de observar detenidamente todas las estructuras pélvicas al alcance visual del equipo de ecografía.We present a clinical case of a 60 year-old patient, who concurs to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Padre Hurtado Hospital under the suspect of a uterine-cervical myoma. A transvaginal ultrasonography was performed which incidentally revealed a bladder tumor which was solid, vascularized, clearly inside of the bladder and attached to the bladder mucosa. The definitive urological study was compatible with a transitional cells papillary carcinoma. The woman did not refer hematuria spontaneously. The finding allowed an unusual diagnosis in an ultrasound aimed for different purposes, which underlines the potential use of this method in other pelvic organs.

Antecedentes: Citomegalovirus (CMV) es la infección congénita más frecuente, demostrado en el 1% de recién nacidos en países desarrollados. Es la primera causa de sordera y alteraciones del desarrollo neuro-lógico infantil. Recientes estudios han demostrado que la seropositividad no evita una reinfección materna ni la enfermedad congénita, por lo que la caracterización de la seroprevalencia permite saber si la infección congénita proviene mayoritariamente de primoinfección o de reinfección. Objetivos: Conocer la seroprevalencia al parto en 583 mujeres beneficiarías del Hospital Padre Hurtado durante mayo y junio del 2006. Métodos: Estudio prospectivo, observacional, en que se estudio la presencia de IgG anti CMV en sangre materna al parto. Resultados: Se obtuvo una seroprevalencia de 95%, sin casos de infección sintomática al nacer. Conclusión: La seroprevalencia es elevada, lo que sugiere que la reinfección sería la forma principal de infección congénita. Un estudio en recién nacidos con cultivos virales o PCR permitiría conocer la tasa de infección congénita real, y no un estudio basado en seroconversión pues omitiría todos los casos que reinfección, que serían mayoritarios.Background: Cytomegalovirus is the most frequent congenital infection, affecting 1% of the population in developed countries, and the leading cause of deafness and brain development abnormalities in children. Recent studies have demonstrated that seropositivity do not avoid reinfection and congenital disease. Objective: To study the seroprevalence in 583 pregnant women at delivery at Padre Hurtado Hospital, during 2006. Methods: Prospective, observational study, in which maternal blood at delivery was studied for the presence of anti CMV IgG. Results: There was 95% seroprevalence, without any case of symptomatic infection. Conclusion: The high prevalence supports that most of the cases of congenital disease would occur in seropositive women, supporting that reinfection is the main way of neonatal compromise. This supports that a study with direct detection in liveborns would be suitable to reveal the impact of cytomegalovirus in our population and not that of seroconversión.
