Cr3+-activated near-infrared (NIR) phosphors are key for NIR phosphor-converted light emitting diodes (NIR pc-LED). While, the site occupancy of Cr3+ is one of the debates that have plagued researchers. Herein, Y2Mg2Al2Si2O12 (YMAS) with multiple cationic sites is chosen as host of Cr3+ to synthesize YMAS: xCr3+ phosphors. In YMAS, Cr3+ ions occupy simultaneously Al/SiO4 tetrahedral, Mg/AlO6 octahedral, and Y/MgO8 dodecahedral sites which form three luminescent centers named as Cr1, Cr2, and Cr3, respectively. Cr1 and Cr2 relate to an intermediate crystal field, with transitions of 2E→4A2 and 4T2→4A2 occurring simultaneously. As Cr3+ concentration increases, the 4T2→4A2 transition becomes more pronounced in Cr1 and Cr2, resulting in a red-shift and broadband emission. Cr3 consistently behaves a weak crystal field and exhibits the broad and long-wavelength emission. Wide-range NIR emission centering at 745 ​nm is realized in YMAS: 0.03Cr3+ phosphor. This phosphor has high internal quantum efficiency (IQE ​= ​86%) and satisfying luminescence thermal stability (I423 K ​= ​70.2%). Using this phosphor, NIR pc-LEDs with 56.6 ​mW@320 ​mA optical output power is packaged and applied. Present study not only demonstrates the Cr3+ multi-site occupancy in a certain oxide but also provides a reliable approach via choosing a host with diverse cationic sites and local environments for Cr3+ to achieve broadband NIR phosphors.

Abstract Cryptocaryon irritans, one of the most devastating holotrichous ciliated protozoans, causes massive economic losses in the pompano, Trachinotus ovatus, mariculture industries. Considering the many advantages of phytochemicals, such as low cost, low residuals, and low pollution, they can be a good alternative for the prevention and control of C. irritans infestations. In this study, 14 phytochemicals were evaluated for their antiparasitic activity against the theront of C. irritans, and nine showed significant antiparasitic activity. Nerolidol was the most promising compound, causing 100% mortality of theronts with 30‐min exposure at a concentration of 10.0 μl/L. The half‐maximal inhibitory concentrations (IC50s) of nerolidol on C. irritans theronts, protomonts, and tomonts were 2.1, 13.3, and 7.1 μl/L, respectively. Abnormal morphologies of the theronts, trophonts, and tomonts were observed after exposure to 10.0, 30.0, and 10.0 μl/L nerolidol solution for 15 min, 30 min, and 480 min, respectively. A diet supplemented with 2.3 ml/kg of nerolidol reduced the number of trophonts on the gills of pompano by 95.7% decrease compared with the control groups and the theront chemotaxis to pompano mucus and sera, while increased the survival rate of infected pompanos by 24.44%, and had no significant effect on pompano hindgut and serum myeloperoxidase. These results suggest that nerolidol is a new potential drug for controlling fish cryptocaryonosis.

IntroductionThe optimal treatment for pulmonary and mediastinal metastasis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is still controversial, and the therapeutic effect is poor recently. In one case, we demonstrated a long-term survival after postoperative chemoradiotherapy combined with dendritic cell and cytokine-induced killer (DC-CIK) immunotherapy for pulmonary and mediastinal metastases from NPC.Baseline CharacteristicsA 53-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital in June 2008. Pathological biopsy revealed a poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma located in the nasopharynx with the invasion of internal pterygoid muscles, the sphenoid bone, and unilateral neck lymph node metastasis. No distant metastases were observed. The stage of NPC was T3N1M0 III (AJCC8). The patient received concurrent chemoradiotherapy for primary lesion and neck lymph nodes and achieved complete remission (CR) of the disease after 3 months. Follow-up at 3-month intervals was carried out. Pulmonary and mediastinal lymph node metastases were found in July 2009. The patient then underwent right upper lobectomy and mediastinal lymph node dissection and five cycles of gemcitabine and cisplatin (GP) regimen chemotherapy, following radiotherapy and DC-CIK immunotherapy.ResultsAfter a follow-up time of 13 years, no tumor recurrence or metastasis and severe adverse reactions were found.ConclusionPostoperative chemotherapy and radiotherapy in combination with DC-CIK immunotherapy may produce a synergistic therapeutic effect on patients with mediastinal lymph node metastasis from NPC.

Abstract Background Caixin and Zicaitai (Brassica rapa) belong to Southern and Central China respectively. Zicaitai contains high amount of anthocyanin in leaf and stalk resulting to the purple color. Stalk is the major edible part and stalk color is an economically important trait for the two vegetables. The aim of this study is to construct a high density genetic map using the specific length amplified fragment sequencing (SLAF-seq) technique to explore genetic basis for anthocyanin pigmentation traits via quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping. Results We constructed a high generation linkage map with a mapping panel of F2 populations derived from 150 individuals of parental lines “Xianghongtai 01” and “Yinong 50D” with purple and green stalk respectively. The map was constructed containing 4253 loci, representing 10,940 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers spanning 1030.04 centiMorgans (cM) over 10 linkage groups (LGs), with an average distance between markers of 0.27 cM. Quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis revealed that a major locus on chromosome 7 and 4 minor QTLs explaining 2.69–61.21% of phenotypic variation (PVE) were strongly responsible for variation in stalk color trait. Bioinformatics analysis of the major locus identified 62 protein-coding genes. Among the major locus, there were no biosynthetic genes related to anthocyanin. However, there were several transcription factors like helix-loop-helix (bHLH) bHLH, MYB in the locus. Seven predicted candidate genes were selected for the transcription level analysis. Only bHLH49 transcription factor, was significantly higher expressed in both stalks and young leaves of Xianghongtai01 than Yinong50D. An insertion and deletion (InDel) marker developed from deletion/insertion in the promoter region of bHLH49 showed significant correlation with the stalk color trait in the F2 population. Conclusion Using the constructed high-qualified linkage map, this study successfully identified QTLs for stalk color trait. The identified valuable markers and candidate genes for anthocyanin accumulation in stalk will provide useful information for molecular regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis. Overall our findings will lay a foundation for functional gene cloning, marker-assisted selection (MAS) and molecular breeding of important economic traits in B. rapa.

Epidermal Langerhans cells (LCs) are skin-resident dendritic cells that are essential for the induction of skin immunity and tolerance. Transforming growth factor-β 1 (TGFβ1) is a crucial factor for LC maintenance and function. However, the underlying TGFβ1 signaling pathways remain unclear. Our previous research has shown that the TGFβ1/Smad3 signaling pathway does not impact LC homeostasis and maturation. In this study, we generated mice with conditional deletions of either individual Smad2, Smad4, or both Smad2 and Smad4 in the LC lineage or myeloid lineage, to further explore the impact of TGFβ1/Smad signaling pathways on LCs. We found that interruption of Smad2 or Smad4 individually or simultaneously in the LC lineage did not significantly impact the maintenance, maturation, antigen uptake, and migration of LCs in vivo or in vitro during steady state. However, the interruption of both Smad2 and Smad4 pathways in the myeloid lineage led to a dramatic inhibition of bone marrow-derived LCs in the inflammatory state. Overall, our data suggest that canonical TGFβ1/Smad2/4 signaling pathways are dispensable for epidermal LC homeostasis and maturation at steady state, but are critical for the long-term LC repopulation directly originating from the bone marrow in the inflammatory state.

Abstract Background Abnormal expression of major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I) is increased in dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra (SN) in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Low-molecular-mass protein 7 (β5i) is a proteolytic subunit of the immunoproteasome that regulates protein degradation and the MHC pathway in immune cells. Methods In this study, we investigated the role of β5i in DA neurons using a 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) model in vitro and vivo. Results We showed that 6-OHDA upregulated β5i expression in DA neurons in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. Inhibition and downregulation of β5i induced the expression of glucose-regulated protein (Bip) and exacerbated 6-OHDA neurotoxicity in DA neurons. The inhibition of β5i further promoted the activation of Caspase 3-related pathways induced by 6-OHDA. β5i also activated transporter associated with antigen processing 1 (TAP1) and promoted MHC-I expression on DA neurons. Conclusion Taken together, our data suggest that β5i is activated in DA neurons under 6-OHDA treatment and may play a neuroprotective role in PD.

Cyclophilin (Cyp) and Ca2+/calcineurin proteins are cellular components related to fungal morphogenesis and virulence; however, their roles in mediating the pathogenesis of Botrytis cinerea, the causative agent of gray mold on over 1000 plant species, remain largely unexplored. Here, we show that disruption of cyclophilin gene BcCYP2 did not impair the pathogen mycelial growth, osmotic and oxidative stress adaptation as well as cell wall integrity, but delayed conidial germination and germling development, altered conidial and sclerotial morphology, reduced infection cushion (IC) formation, sclerotial production and virulence. Exogenous cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) rescued the deficiency of IC formation of the ∆Bccyp2 mutants, and exogenous cyclosporine A (CsA), an inhibitor targeting cyclophilins, altered hyphal morphology and prevented host-cell penetration in the BcCYP2 harboring strains. Moreover, calcineurin-dependent (CND) genes are differentially expressed in strains losing BcCYP2 in the presence of CsA, suggesting that BcCyp2 functions in the upstream of cAMP- and Ca2+/calcineurin-dependent signaling pathways. Interestingly, during IC formation, expression of BcCYP2 is downregulated in a mutant losing BcJAR1, a gene encoding histone 3 lysine 4 (H3K4) demethylase that regulates fungal development and pathogenesis, in B. cinerea, implying that BcCyp2 functions under the control of BcJar1. Collectively, our findings provide new insights into cyclophilins mediating the pathogenesis of B. cinerea and potential targets for drug intervention for fungal diseases.

The transmission of infectious diseases has been studied by mathematical methods since 1760s, among which SIR model shows its advantage in its epidemiological description of spread mechanisms. Here we established a modified SIR model with nonlinear incidence and recovery rates, to understand the influence by any government intervention and hospitalization condition variation in the spread of diseases. By analyzing the existence and stability of the equilibria, we found that the basic reproduction number [Formula: see text] is not a threshold parameter, and our model undergoes backward bifurcation when there is limited number of hospital beds. When the saturated coefficient a is set to zero, it is discovered that the model undergoes the Saddle-Node bifurcation, Hopf bifurcation, and Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation of codimension 2. The bifurcation diagram can further be drawn near the cusp type of the Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation of codimension 3 by numerical simulation. We also found a critical value of the hospital beds bc at [Formula: see text] and sufficiently small a, which suggests that the disease can be eliminated at the hospitals where the number of beds is larger than bc. The same dynamic behaviors exist even when a ≠ 0. Therefore, it can be concluded that a sufficient number of the beds is critical to control the epidemic.

Plants have evolved complex processes to ward off attacks by insects. In parallel, insects have evolved mechanisms to thwart these plant defenses. To gain insight into mechanisms that mediate this arms race between plants and herbivorous insects, we investigated the interactions between gramine, a toxin synthesized by plants of the family Gramineae, and glutathione S transferase (GST), an enzyme found in insects that is known to detoxify xenobiotics. Here, we demonstrate that rice (Oryza sativa), a hydrophytic plant, also produces gramine and that rice resistance to brown planthoppers (Nilaparvata lugens, BPHs) is highly associated with in planta gramine content. We also show that gramine is a toxicant that causes BPH mortality in vivo and that knockdown of BPH GST gene nlgst1-1 results in increased sensitivity to diets containing gramine. These results suggest that the knockdown of key detoxification genes in sap-sucking insects may provide an avenue for increasing their sensitivity to natural plant-associated defense mechanisms.

Abstract In a multicenter case–control investigation, we assessed the efficacy of the Electrooculogram Signal Analysis (EOG-SA) method, which integrates attention-related visual evocation, electrooculography, and nonlinear analysis, for distinguishing between intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and typical development (TD) in children. Analyzing 127 participants (63 IDD, 64 TD), we applied nonlinear dynamics for feature extraction. Results indicated EOG-SA’s capability to distinguish IDD, with higher template thresholds and Correlation Dimension values correlating with clinical severity. The template threshold proved a robust indicator, with higher values denoting severe IDD. Discriminative metrics showed areas under the curve of 0.91 (template threshold) and 0.85/0.91 (D2), with sensitivities and specificities of 77.6%/95.9% and 93.5%/71.0%, respectively. EOG-SA emerges as a promising tool, offering interpretable neural biomarkers for early and nuanced diagnosis of IDD.

This paper considers a dual-channel supply chain with two members, comprising a manufacturer and an online platform. We mainly investigate the influence of various key system variables on manufacturer encroachment strategy and all members’ optimal decisions through Stackelberg game models. Our findings show that, regardless of the size of each parameter, the encroachment strategy is always optimal to the manufacturer; the manufacturer may be motivated to choose the direct selling channel and the platform may opt for the agency selling channel due to a high commission rate. Moreover, when the inter-channel substitution rate is high, the encroachment strategy has a diminishing positive effect on the manufacturer and an increasing negative effect on the platform so that the platform may temporarily benefit from the manufacturer encroachment; in cases where the inter-channel substitution rate is not high, the encroachment strategy always yields advantages for the manufacturer while causing disadvantages for the platform. In addition, if the elasticity coefficient is large, both the manufacturer and the platform are inclined to the reselling channel, that is, if the platform service cost is high, it is advisable for the platform to reduce its investment of service to avoid negative effect.

This paper focuses on the settlement selection strategic analysis for self-operated e-commerce platforms on hybrid e-commerce platforms under market competition. Taking factors such as the market share, price competition, commission, and customer loyalty into account, a multi-leader–follower game model with the platforms as leaders and the manufacturers as followers is established. Then, we solve the model with the help of some mathematical techniques and describe some numerical experiments to analyze settlement strategies for the self-operated platforms and their impact on other members in the network. The numerical results reveal the following revelations: a lower commission rate is more suitable for the self-operated platforms; once the commission rates are determined, the self-operated platforms prefer to settle in the hybrid platforms under lower medium price competition; when the price competition is fierce, as customer loyalty increases, the self-operated platforms should settle with a low market share; if the self-operated platforms settle in the hybrid platforms, then a higher price competition is advantageous for all members and can facilitate supply chain coordination.

Abstract Background Threatened preterm labor (TPL) is an important obstetrical challenge. Pregnant women with TPL may develop psychological and physical problems such as mental health disorders, sleep disturbance, and hormonal circadian rhythm disruption. This study aimed to investigate the current state of mental health, sleep quality, and circadian rhythms of cortisol and melatonin secretion in pregnant women with TPL and normal pregnant women (NPW). Methods A prospective observational clinical study was conducted at a maternal and child health hospital in Fuzhou, China, between June and July 2022. A total of 50 women between 32 and 36 weeks of gestation (TPL group, n = 20; NPW group, n = 30) were recruited. Data on anxiety symptom (Zung’s Self-rating Anxiety Scale, SAS), depression symptom (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, EPDS), subjective sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, PSQI) and objective sleep outcomes (measured by actigraphy) of the pregnant women were collected at the time of enrolment. Salivary samples were collected once every 6 h (i.e., at 06:00, 12:00, 18:00, and 00:00) during 2 consecutive days to measure the circadian rhythm of hormone (cortisol and melatonin). Results There were no differences found in the total scores of SAS, EPDS scores, subjective sleep quality between the TPL and NPW groups (P > 0.05). In contrast, significant differences were found in sleep efficiency, total sleep time, wake time after sleep onset, and average awakening time between the groups (P 0.05). Conclusions In the third trimester of pregnancy, women with TPL suffer from poorer sleep quality and disruption of circadian rhythm of melatonin secretion compared with NPW. Nevertheless, there were no differences found in mental health (i.e., anxiety and depression) and circadian rhythm of cortisol secretion. Large-scale studies should be conducted to evaluate these changes in women with TPL. Trial registration The study was registered from Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (Number: ChiCTR2200060674) on 07/06/2022.

Abstract Background Fighting against the COVID‐19 pandemic, front‐line nurses were under unprecedented psychological pressure. Therefore, it is necessary to promptly evaluate the psychological status of nurses during the COVID‐19 epidemic period. Aim To investigate nurses' mental health during the COVID‐19 pandemic, and to test the mediating role of social support and psychological resilience between coping and mental health. Design This was a descriptive, cross‐sectional survey which used a structural equation model. Method In total, 711 registered nurses were included. All participants were invited to complete a socio‐demographic questionnaire, the general health questionnaire, the trait coping style questionnaire, the perceived social support scale and the Conner–Davidson Resilience scale. Results In total, 50.1% nurses had high risk of mental health. Positive coping positively affected social support and psychological resilience, while it negatively affected mental health. Negative coping negatively affected social support and psychological resilience, while it positively affected mental health. Social support positively affected psychological resilience, while it negatively affected mental health. In addition, social support mediated coping and psychological resilience, and coping and mental health. Moreover, psychological resilience negatively affected mental health, and it mediated coping and mental health.

Worldwide, the incidence rate of myopia is maintained in a high level. Especially, the morbidity is rising continuously among children and adolescents. The progression of myopia affects visual acuity, vision related quality of life and productivity. Moreover, high myopia and its related ocular complications also aggravate the family and social burden. Therefore, the mechanism of myopia, related complications and methods of myopia prevention and control need further exploration. International Myopia Institute(IMI)published the second-edition white papers in April 2021. These white papers included reflections on the implications for clinical practice, the impact of myopia, the risk factors of myopia, the relationship among accommodation and binocular vision with myopia, pathologic myopia, prevention of myopia and digest. Comparing to the first edition, more than thousands of articles and conference abstracts were considered in white papers II, highlighting the latest research and progress related to myopia prevention and control. This article briefly summarizes and interprets the contents of the above white papers, including overview of myopia, impact of myopia, risk factors in myopia, ocular changes in the progress of myopia, and myopia prevention and control, hoping to provide advice for the clinical and scientific research work relating to myopia prevention and control.

Abstract Background Parenting sense of competence is not only indispensable to the wellbeing of the parents of premature infants, but is also pivotal to the overall development of these infants. This study examined the level of parenting sense of competence and its associated factors in Chinese parents of preterm infants. Methods This cross-sectional study was performed at a university teaching hospital in Fuzhou (China) from December 2021 to April 2022. Data were collected using the Parenting Sense of Competence Scale, Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, Social Support Rating Scale, Parenting Care Knowledge Subscale, Parenting Care Skill Subscale, and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Results A total of 401 Chinese parents were included in the analysis. The average parenting sense of competence scale score was 70.93 ± 13.06. This paper considers a sales mode selection problem under revenue sharing contracts between resale and agency modes for risk-averse manufacturers with traditional retail channel, direct selling channel, and e-commerce platform channel. By considering the factors including price competition intensity, market share, revenue sharing ratio, commission rate, and degree of risk aversion, we construct leader-follower game models with manufacturers as leaders and traditional retailers and e-commerce platforms as followers. To obtain optimal solutions, we discuss conditions to ensure the upper and lower models to be convex and then give the optimal strategies for all members in the network. Through numerical experiments, we analyze the involved parameters’ impact on sales mode selection strategy and the changing trends of each member's optimal pricing and profit under different sales modes. The numerical results reveal the following revelations: The manufacturer should choose the agency mode when the commission rate is low and the direct selling channel has a large market share. If both the commission rate and degree of risk aversion are high, direct selling channels have a low market share, and price competition intensity is weak, the manufacturer should choose the resale mode. The degree of risk aversion has an effect on each member’s optimal decision. Regardless of which sales mode the manufacturer chooses, the optimal price of each member decreases as the degree of risk aversion increases. Under certain conditions, the manufacturer’s choice of agency mode can create win-win situations with supply chain members.

AIM:To investigate the correlation between corneal biomechanical parameters measured by the corneal visualization Scheimpflug Technology(Corvis ST)and corneal high-order aberrations(HOAs)in children with mild to moderate myopia.METHODS:A cross-sectional study. A total of 255 pediatric patients with myopia enrolled from April to July 2021 in Tianjin Medical University Eye Hospital were continuously collected, and all the right eyes were taken for analysis. Corneal biomechanical parameters were obtained from Corvis ST. Pentacam three-dimensional anterior segment analyzer was used to measure total corneal higher-order aberrations(RMSh), third order aberrations(RMS3)and fourth order aberrations(RMS4).RESULTS:RMS3 was positively correlated with the second applanation time(A2T)(r=0.175, P=0.009)and negatively correlated with the axis length(AL)(r=-0.155, P=0.014). RMS4 was negatively correlated with the highest concavity radius(HCR)(r=-0.165, P=0.009). RMSh was negatively correlated with HCR and AL(r=-0.152, P=0.037; r=-0.175, P=0.005).CONCLUSION:There is a correlation between corneal biomechanical parameters and HOAs in children with myopia. Cornea with higher stiffness and stronger deformation resistance has smaller RMS3, RMS4 and RMSh.

The increasing popularity of ride-hailing applications has given rise to a new channel in which ride-hailing platforms are bundled into aggregation platforms to earn additional orders by charging commissions and slotting fees. Such bundled channels, unlike traditional reseller electronic ones, may flutter prices, service levels, market demands, and then further affect their profits. These divergent attitudes raise an interesting and key question about whether and under what conditions bundled channels should be introduced to ride-hailing platforms. In this paper, we provide an analytical framework for ride-hailing and aggregation platforms in unbundled and bundled scenarios, respectively. We build a Stackelberg game model in which ride-hailing and aggregation platforms as leaders obtain prices by constructing Nash equilibria, while drivers as followers determine service levels given to two platforms. Drivers’ best responses in terms of service levels for two platforms, as well as platforms’ optimal pricing strategies and profits are achieved. To capture access conditions of the ride-hailing platform and the profit contention between two platforms, we further conduct sensitivity analysis on cost coefficients of service levels, price and cross-price substitutions, service level and cross-service level substitutions, revenue-sharing ratio, cost, as well as commission and slotting fee. Based on numerical examples and analysis of the results, some interesting managerial insights about bundling strategies are gained for ride-hailing platforms.

Abstract The gestational weight gain (GWG) range of Chinese women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) remains unclear. Our objective was to identify the ranges of GWG in Chinese women with GDM and to investigate the associations between prepregnancy body mass index (BMI), GWG and maternal-infant adverse outcomes. Cases of GDM women who delivered singletons from 2013 to 2018 in a public hospital were collected. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the joint effects of prepregnancy BMI and GWG on maternal-infant adverse outcomes. Ultimately, 14,578 women were collected. The ranges of GWG in Chinese women with GDM were different from the National Academy of Medicine’s (NAM) recommendation. The ranges of GWG of Chinese women with GDM in the underweight, normal weight, overweight and obese groups were 5.95–21.95 kg, 4.23–21.83 kg, 0.88–21.12 kg and − 1.76 to 19.95 kg, respectively. The risks of large for gestational age (LGA), macrosomia and caesarean delivery were significantly increased with the increasing prepregnancy BMI. Furthermore, the risks of LGA, macrosomia and caesarean delivery were significantly higher in the normal weight group with a GWG higher than the NAM recommendation. Similarly, in the overweight group with a GWG higher than the NAM recommendation, the risks of LGA were significantly higher, while the risks of macrosomia were significantly lower. Overall, we determined the range of GWG in different prepregnancy BMI groups. And GDM women with high prepregnancy BMI and excessive GWG were associated with the higher risks of maternal-infants adverse outcomes in China.

The growing popularity of aggregation platforms has attracted widespread attention in the ride-hailing market in recent years. In order to obtain additional orders by charging commissions and slotting fees, many ride-hailing platforms choose to bundle with aggregation platforms. Unlike traditional reseller electronic channels, the bundle channels may affect pricing of platforms, service levels of drivers, market demands and they may further impact on profits. These different attitudes raise an interesting and key question about the influence of bundle channels in ride-hailing platforms. In this paper, we propose an analytical framework for pricing strategies of ride-hailing and aggregation platforms under bundle mode and analyze their pricing process from the perspective of Nash and Stackelberg games, where the platforms serve as leaders to determine optimal prices through Nash equilibrium and the drivers serve as followers to provide optimal service levels. Through sensitivity analysis of service levels and costs, we capture the distribution trends of profits between the platforms. Based on some numerical examples and results analysis, some interesting managerial insights on pricing of ride-hailing and aggregation platforms are gained.

AIM: To evaluate related factors with the change of spherical equivalents (ΔSE) and determine the suitable predictor of clinically significant ΔSE (≥0.50 D) with cyclopentolate hydrochloride on Chinese children. METHODS: A total of 145 right eyes of 145 children aged 4 to 15y were enrolled. Intraocular pressure, axial length and lag of accommodation (LOA) were assessed before cycloplegia induced by 3 drops of 1% cyclopentolate at 5-minute intervals. SE was measured before and 1h after the first drop of cyclopentolate. ΔSE was compared between different gender groups and among refractive groups. Multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to find related factors with ΔSE. ROC analysis was used to figure out the suitable predictor of clinically significant ΔSE. RESULTS: For the total 145 eyes, the mean SE reached up to -0.70±1.86 D from -1.30±1.62 D, with the mean ΔSE of 0.60±0.55 D. Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) damages the autonomic nervous system and affects the homeostasis of gut microbiota. Ursolic acid (UA) is a candidate drug for treating nervous system injury due to its neuroprotective and antioxidant functions. The purpose of our study was to investigate the role of UA on SCI and its mechanism.Methods: UA was administered to SCI mice and the solvent corn oil was used as control. The weight of the mice was recorded daily. Mice feces were collected 21 days after surgery for 16S rRNA-amplicon sequencing and untargeted metabolomics analysis. The expressions of NF-κB, IL-1β, and TNF-α in the spinal cord and colon tissues of mice were detected by Western blot and Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively. Immunohistochemistry was used to analyze the expression of NeuN, NF-200, and synapsin in the spinal cord tissues.Results: UA treatment increased body weight and soleus muscle weight of SCI mice. UA treatment inhibited inflammatory response and protected neuronal activity in SCI mice. UA improved the relative abundance of Muribaculaceae, Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group, and Alloprevotell genus in the gut tract of SCI mice. SCI destroyed the Glutamine_and_D-glutamate_metabolism, Nitrogen_metabolism, Aminoacyl-tRNA_biosynthesis, and Taurine_and_hypotaurine_metabolism in the gut of mice, which might be alleviated by UA.Conclusions: UA treatment could inhibit SCI progression by improving the gut environment and metabolic changes, promoting synaptic regeneration and anti-inflammatory effects.

AIM: To evaluate the effectiveness of Grand Seiko Ref/Keratometer WAM-5500 compared to Topcon KR800 autorefractor in detecting refractive error in large scale vision screening for Chinese school age children with the WHO criteria. METHODS: A total of 886 participants were enrolled with mean age of 9.49±1.88y from Tianjin, China. Spherical equivalent (SE) was obtained from un-cycloplegic autorefraction and cycloplegic autorefraction. Topcon KR 800 (Topcon) and Grand Seiko WAM-5500 (WAM) autorefractors were used. Bland-Altman Plot and regression were generated to compare their performance. The overall effectiveness of detecting early stage refractive error was analyzed with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. RESULTS: The mean SE was -0.98±1.81 diopter (D) and the prevalence of myopia was 48.9% defined by WHO criteria according to the result of cycloplegic autorefraction. The mean SE of un-cycloplegic autorefraction with Topcon and WAM were -1.21±1.65 and -1.20±1.68 D respectively. There was a strong linear agreement between result obtained from WAM and cycloplegic autorefraction with an R2 of 0.8318. Bland-Altman plot indicated a moderate agreement of cylinder values between the two methods. The sensitivity and specificity for detecting hyperopia were 90.52% and 83.51%; for detecting myopia were 95.60% and 90.24%; for detecting astigmatism were 79.40% and 90.21%; for detecting high myopia were 98.16% and 98.91% respectively. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that both Grand Seiko and Topcon autorefractor can be used in large-scale vision screening for detecting refractive error in Chinese population. Grand Seiko gives relatively better performance in detecting myopia, hyperopia, and high myopia for school age children.

An ideal animal model of azoospermia would be a powerful tool for the evaluation of spermatogonial stem cell (SSC) transplantation. Busulfan has been commonly used to develop such a model, but 30%–87% of mice die when administered an intraperitoneal injection of 40 mg kg−1. In the present study, hematoxylin and eosin staining, Western blot, immunofluorescence, and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction were used to test the effects of busulfan exposure in a mouse model that received two intraperitoneal injections of busulfan at a 3-h interval at different doses (20, 30, and 40 mg kg−1) on day 36 or a dose of 40 mg kg−1 at different time points (0, 9, 18, 27, 36, and 63 days). The survival rate of the mice was 100%. When the mice were treated with 40 mg kg−1 busulfan, dramatic SSC depletion occurred 18 days later and all of the germ cells were cleared by day 36. In addition, the gene expressions of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2), chemokine (C-X-C Motif) ligand 12 (CXCL12), and colony-stimulating factor 1 (CSF1) were moderately increased by day 36. A 63-day, long-term observation showed the rare restoration of endogenous germ cells in the testes, suggesting that the potential period for SSC transplantation was between day 36 and day 63. Our results demonstrate that the administration of two intraperitoneal injections of busulfan (40 mg kg−1 in total) at a 3-h interval to mice provided a nonlethal and efficient method for recipient preparation in SSC transplantation and could improve treatments for infertility and the understanding of chemotherapy-induced gonadotoxicity.

The developing rat cerebellum is vulnerable to thyroid hormone (TH) deficiency. The present study addresses the molecular mechanisms involved in this response. Specifically, the study focuses on the expression of selected cerebellar proteins that are known to be directly [protein expressing 3-fucosyl-N-acetyl-lactosamine antigen (CD15), neuronal cell adhesion molecule (L1)] or indirectly [glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)], involved in glial-neuronal interactions and thus regulation of cell proliferation and granule cell migration. Cerebellar mass, structure, and protein expression in rat neonates exposed to antithyroid drug propylthiouracil (PTU) from the embryonic day (E) 16 to postnatal day (P) 21 were compared against rat neonates that received replacement of thyroxin (T4) starting on day P1 or untreated controls. Cerebellar proteins were analyzed by quantitative Western blots. PTU-treated rats lagged in growth and showed reduction in cerebellar mass and alterations in cerebellar structure on P15. Daily treatment of neonates with T4 restored normal cerebellum-to-body-mass ratio, cerebellar structure, and cerebellar protein expression. Densitometric analysis of Western blots revealed altered expression of selected proteins in the cerebella of hypothyroid neonates. A decrease of CD15 (46%, p = 0.031) was observed on P10 and was accompanied by a decrease in GFAP expression (64%, p = 0.039). Furthermore, a shift in the developmental GFAP profile was observed in the PTU-treated cerebellum. L1 expression was not significantly affected in the hypothyroid cerebellum. Altered expression of cerebellar proteins is likely to affect cell-cell interactions and consequently cell proliferation and migration and contribute to structural and functional alterations seen in the hypothyroid rat neonates. Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) is an important oil crop in the world, and increasing its oil content is a major breeding goal. The studies on seed structure and characteristics of different oil content rapeseed could help us to understand the biological mechanism of lipid accumulation, and be helpful for rapeseed breeding.Here we report on the seed ultrastructure of an ultrahigh oil content rapeseed line YN171, whose oil content is 64.8%, and compared with other high and low oil content rapeseed lines. The results indicated that the cytoplasms of cotyledon, radicle, and aleuronic cells were completely filled with oil and protein bodies, and YN171 had a high oil body organelle to cell area ratio for all cell types. In the cotyledon cells, oil body organelles comprised 81% of the total cell area in YN171, but only 53 to 58% in three high oil content lines and 33 to 38% in three low oil content lines. The high oil body organelle to cotyledon cell area ratio and the cotyledon ratio in seed were the main reasons for the ultrahigh oil content of YN171. The correlation analysis indicated that oil content is significantly negatively correlated with protein content, but is not correlated with fatty acid composition.Our results indicate that the oil content of YN171 could be enhanced by increasing the oil body organelle to cell ratio for some cell types. The oil body organelle to seed ratio significantly highly positively correlates with oil content, and could be used to predict seed oil content. Based on the structural analysis of different oil content rapeseed lines, we estimate the maximum of rapeseed oil content could reach 75%. Our results will help us to screen and identify high oil content lines in rapeseed breeding.

Aim: To compare the efficacy of a session of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) before endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) vs ERCP only for problematic and large common bile duct (CBD) stones., Methods: Adult patients with CBD stones for whom initial ERCP was unsuccessful because of the large size of CBD stones were identified. The patients were randomized into two groups, an "ESWL + ERCP group" and an "ERCP-only" group. For ESWL + ERCP cases, ESWL was performed prior to ERCP. Clearance of the CBD, complications related to the ESWL/ERCP procedure, frequency of mechanical lithotripsy use and duration of the ERCP procedure were evaluated in both groups., Results: There was no significant difference in baseline characteristics between the two groups. A session of ESWL before ERCP compared with ERCP only resulted in similar outcomes in terms of successful stone removal within the first treatment session (74.2% vs 71.0%, P = 0.135), but a higher clearance rate within the second treatment session (84.4% vs 51.6%, P = 0.018) and total stone clearance (96.0% vs 86.0%, P = 0.029). Moreover, ESWL prior to ERCP not only reduced ERCP procedure time (43 ± 21 min vs 59 ± 28 min, P = 0.034) and the rate of mechanical lithotripsy use (20% vs 30%, P = 0.025), but also raised the clearance rate of extremely large stones (80.0% vs 40.0%, P = 0.016).
