The angular distributions are compared with the general decay amplitude analysis of Cahn. We find that the dipion system requires some D wave amplitude, as well as S wave. On the other hand, the (Formula presented) relative angular momentum is consistent with being pure S wave. The decay distributions have been fit to heavy quarkonium models, including the Novikov-Shifman model. This model, which is written in terms of the parameter (Formula presented) predicts that D wave pions should be present. We determine (Formula presented) based on the joint (Formula presented) distribution. The fraction of D wave amplitude as a function of (Formula presented) is found to decrease with increasing (Formula presented) in agreement with the model. The cross section for charmed meson production at √s=4.03 and 4.14 GeV has been measured with the Beijing Spectrometer. The measurement was made using 22.3 pb-1 of e+e- data collected at 4.03 GeV and 1.5 pb-1 of e+e- data collected at 4.14 GeV. Inclusive observed cross sections for the production of charged and neutral D mesons and momentum spectra are presented. Observed cross sections were radiatively corrected to obtain tree level cross sections. Measurements of the total hadronic cross section are obtained from the charmed meson cross section and an extrapolation of results from below the charm threshold. ©2000 The American Physical Society.

A sample of 3.79 × 106ψ(2S) events is used to study the decays of charmonium to axial-vector plus pseudoscalar mesons. The branching fraction for the decay ψ(2S) → b±1(1235)π∓ agrees with expectations based on scaling the corresponding J/ψ branching fraction. Flavor-SU(3)-violating K1(1270)- K1(1400) asymmetries with opposite character for ψ(2S) and J/ψ decays are observed. This contrasting behavior cannot be accommodated by adjustments of the singlet-triplet mixing angle. © 1999 The American Physical Society.

The decays of the ψ(2S) into vector plus tensor meson final states have been studied for the first time using the BES detector. We determine upper limits on branching fractions for ψ(2S) decays into ωf2, ρa2, K*0K*02 + c.c., and φf'2(1525) that are, in each case, significantly smaller than the corresponding branching fractions for the J/ψ meson, scaled according to the expectations of perturbative QCD. © 1998 The American Physical Society.

The processes ψ(2S) → I π+ π−, γK+ K−, and γpp¯ have been studied using a sample of 3.79 × 106 ψ(2S) decays. We determine the total width of the χc0 to be γtotχc0 = 14.3 ± 2.0 ± 3.0 MeV. We present the first measurement of the branching fraction B(χc0 → pp¯) = (15.9 ± 4.3 ± 5.3) × 10−5, where the first error is statistical and the second one is systematic. Branching fractions of χc0, 2 → π+ π− and K+ K− are also reported. © 1998 American Physical Society.

The cross section for e+e-→ρπ has been measured by the BES detector at BEPC at center-of-mass energies covering a 40 MeV interval spanning the J/ψresonance. The data are used to search for the vector gluonium state hypothesized by Brodsky, Lepage, and Tuan as an explanation of the ρπ puzzle in charmonium physics. The shape of the ρπ cross section is compatible with that of the total hadronic cross section. Approximately 5pb-1 of data, distributed over 12 scan points, have been collected. A previous mass value for the τ lepton, obtained using only the eµ final state, has been published. In this paper, the final BES result on the mass measurement is presented. The analysis is based on the combined data from the ee, eµ, eh, µµ, µh, and hh final states, where h denotes a charged Π or K. The Beijing Spectrometer (BES) experiment has observed purely leptonic decays of the Ds meson in the reaction e+e-→Ds+Ds- at a c.m. energy of 4.03 GeV. Three events are observed in which one Ds decays hadronically to φπ, K̄*0K, or K̄0K, and the other decays leptonically to μνμ or τντ. With the assumption of μ-τ universality, values of the branching fraction, B(Ds→μνμ)=(1.5-0.6-0.2+1.3+0.3)%, and the Ds pseudoscalar decay constant, fDs=(4.3-1.3-0.4+1.5+0.4)×102 MeV, are obtained. © 1995 The American Physical Society.

While metal nanoparticles (NPs) have demonstrated their great potential in catalysis, introducing chiral microenvironment around metal NPs to achieve efficient conversion and high enantioselectivity remains a long-standing challenge. In this work, tiny Rh NPs, modified by chiral diene ligands (Lx) bearing diverse functional groups, are incorporated into a covalent organic framework (COF) for the asymmetric 1,4-addition reactions between arylboronic acids and nitroalkenes. Though Rh NPs hosted in the COF are inactive, decorating Rh NPs with Lx creates the active Rh-Lx interface and induces high activity. Moreover, chiral microenvironment modulation around Rh NPs by altering the groups on chiral diene ligands greatly optimizes the enantioselectivity (up to 95.6 % ee). Mechanistic investigations indicate that the formation of hydrogen-bonding interaction between Lx and nitroalkenes plays critical roles in the resulting enantioselectivity. Despite coordination environment of catalytic metal sites has been recognized to be of great importance in single-atom catalysts (SACs), a significant challenge remains in the understanding how the location-specific microenvironment in the higher coordination sphere influences their catalysis. Herein, a series of Cu-based SACs, namely Cu 1 /UiO-66-X (X=-NO 2 , -H, and -NH 2 ), are successfully constructed by anchoring single Cu atoms onto the Zr-oxo clusters of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), i.e., UiO-66-X. The -X functional groups dangling on the MOF linkers could be regarded as location-specific remote microenvironment to regulate electronic properties of the single Cu atoms. Remarkably, they exhibit significant differences in the catalysis toward the hydroboration of alkynes. The activity follows the order of Cu 1 /UiO-66-NO 2 > Cu 1 /UiO-66 > Cu 1 /UiO-66-NH 2 under identical reaction conditions, where Cu 1 /UiO-66-NO 2 showcases the phenylacetylene conversion of 92 %, ~3.5 times higher efficiency than that of Cu 1 /UiO-66-NH 2 . Antibiotics, particularly the β-lactams, are a cornerstone of modern medicine. However, the rise of bacterial resistance to these agents, particularly through the actions of β-lactamases, poses a significant threat to our continued ability to effectively treat infections. Metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs) are of particular concern due to their ability to hydrolyze a wide range of β-lactam antibiotics including carbapenems. For this reason there is growing interest in the development of MBL inhibitors as well as novel antibiotics that can overcome MBL-mediated resistance. Here, we report the synthesis and evaluation of novel conjugates that combine a carbapenem (meropenem or ertapenem) with a recently reported MBL inhibiting indole carboxylate scaffold. These hybrids were found to display potent inhibition against MBLs including NDM-1 and IMP-1, with IC 50 values in the low nanomolar range. However, their antibacterial potency was limited. Mechanistic studies suggest that despite maintaining effective MBL inhibiting activity in live bacteria, the new carbapenem/MBL inhibitor conjugates have a reduced ability to engage with the bacterial target of the β-lactams., (© 2024 The Author(s). The location control of single atoms relative to supports is challenging for single-atom catalysts, leading to a large proportion of inaccessible single atoms buried under supports. Herein, a "sequential thermal transition" strategy is developed to afford single-atom Pt preferentially dispersed on the outer surface of TiO 2 . Specifically, a Ti-MOF confining Pt nanoparticles is converted to Pt NPs and TiO 2 composite coated by carbon (Pt NPs &TiO 2 @C-800) at 800 °C in N 2 . Subsequent thermal-driven atomization of Pt NPs at 600 °C in air produce single-atom Pt decorated TiO 2 (Pt 1 /TiO 2 -600). The resulting Pt 1 /TiO 2 -600 exhibits superior p-chloroaniline (p-CAN) selectivity (99 %) to Pt NPs /TiO 2 -400 (45 %) and much better activity than Pt 1 @TiO 2 -600 with randomly dispersed Pt 1 both outside and inside TiO 2 in the hydrogenation of p-chloronitrobenzene (p-CNB). Mechanism investigations reveal that Pt 1 /TiO 2 -600 achieves 100 % accessibility of Pt 1 and preferably adsorbs the -NO 2 group of p-CNB while weakly adsorbs -Cl group of p-CNB and p-CAN, promoting catalytic activity and selectivity., (© 2024 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Purpose: Microglia-like cells derived from stem cells (iMG) provide a plentiful cell source for studying the functions of microglia in both normal and pathological conditions. Our goal is to establish a simplified and effective method for generating iMG in a precisely defined system. Additionally, we aim to achieve functional maturation of iMG through coculture with retinal organoids., Methods: In this study, iMG were produced under precisely defined conditions. They were subjected to LPS and poly IC stimulation. Additionally, we examined distinct phenotypic and functional variances between iMG and HMC3, a commonly used human microglia cell line. To investigate how the retinal cell interaction enhances microglial properties, iMG were cocultured with retinal organoids, producing CC-iMG. We performed RNA sequencing, electrophysiological analysis, and transmission electron microscope (TEM) to examine the maturation of CC-iMG compared to iMG., Results: Our results demonstrated that iMG performed immune-responsive profiles closely resembling those of primary human microglia. Compared to HMC3, iMG expressed a higher level of typical microglial markers and exhibited enhanced phagocytic activity. The transcriptomic analysis uncovered notable alterations in the ion channel profile of CC-iMG compared to iMG. Electrophysiological examination demonstrated a heightened intensity of inward- and outward-rectifying K+ currents in CC-iMG. Furthermore, CC-iMG displayed elevated numbers of lysosomes and mitochondria, coupled with increased phagocytic activity., Conclusions: These findings contribute to advancing our understanding of human microglial biology, specifically in characterizing and elucidating the functions of CC-iMG, thereby offering an in vitro microglial model for future scientific research and potential clinical applications in cell therapy.

While supported metal nanoparticles (NPs) have shown significant promise in heterogeneous catalysis, precise control over their interaction with the support, which profoundly impacts their catalytic performance, remains a significant challenge. In this study, Pt NPs are incorporated into thioether-functionalized covalent organic frameworks (denoted COF-S x ), enabling precise control over the size and electronic state of Pt NPs by adjusting the thioether density dangling on the COF pore walls. Notably, the resulting Pt@COF-S x demonstrate exceptional selectivity (> 99 %) in catalytic hydrogenation of p-chloronitrobenzene to p-chloroaniline, in sharp contrast to the poor selectivity of Pt NPs embedded in thioether-free COFs. Furthermore, the conversion over Pt@COF-S x exhibits a volcano-type curve as the thioether density increases, due to the corresponding change of accessible Pt sites. Here, we propose a piperidine-based ionic liquid additive. The electrostatic shielding effect of the piperidine cation (PP13 + ) effectively inhibits the growth of lithium dendrites. Simultaneously, the redox activity of the bromine anion synergistically reduces the overpotential. This approach significantly improves the cycling performance of lithium-oxygen batteries.

Photothermal immunotherapy has shown great promise in the treatment of tumor metastasis. However, the thermal resistance of tumor cells substantially compromises the treatment effect of photothermal immunotherapy. Herein, a high-performance organic pyroelectric nanoplatform, t Bu-TPAD-BF 2 nanoparticles (NPs), is rationally engineered for the effective pyroelectroimmunotherapy of tumor metastasis. Biocompatible t Bu-TPAD-BF 2 NPs with excellent pyroelectric and photothermal conversion properties are constructed by assembling organic, low-bandgap pyroelectric molecules with amphiphilic polymers. After internalization by tumor cells, treatment with t Bu-TPAD-BF 2 NPs causes an apparent temperature elevation upon near-infrared (NIR) laser irradiation, inducing potent immunogenic cell death (ICD). Additionally, the temperature variations under alternating NIR laser irradiation facilitate reactive oxygen species production for pyroelectric therapy, thus promoting ICD activation and lowering thermal resistance. Importantly, in vivo assessments illustrate that t Bu-TPAD-BF 2 NPs in combination with NIR laser exposure notably inhibit primary and distant tumor proliferation and prominently retarded lung metastasis. RNA profiling reveals that treatment with t Bu-TPAD-BF 2 NPs markedly suppresses metastasis under NIR laser illumination by downregulating metastasis-related genes and upregulating immune response-associated pathways. Inspired by enzymatic catalysis, it is crucial to construct hydrogen-bonding-rich microenvironment around catalytic sites; unfortunately, its precise construction and understanding how the distance between such microenvironment and catalytic sites affects the catalysis remain significantly challenging. In this work, a series of metal-organic framework (MOF)-based single-atom Ru 1 catalysts, namely, Ru 1 /UiO-67-X (X = -H, - m -(NH 2 ) 2 , - o -(NH 2 ) 2 ), have been synthesized, where the distance between the hydrogen-bonding microenvironment and Ru 1 sites is modulated by altering the location of amino groups. The -NH 2 group can form hydrogen bonds with H 2 O, constituting a unique microenvironment that causes an increased water concentration around the Ru 1 sites. Remarkably, Ru 1 /UiO-67- o -(NH 2 ) 2 displays a superior photocatalytic hydrogen production rate, ∼4.6 and ∼146.6 times of Ru 1 /UiO-67- m -(NH 2 ) 2 and Ru 1 /UiO-67, respectively. Both experimental and computational results suggest that the close proximity of amino groups to the Ru 1 sites in Ru 1 /UiO-67- o -(NH 2 ) 2 improves charge transfer and H 2 O dissociation, accounting for the promoted photocatalytic hydrogen production.

Background: Laying hens undergo intensive metabolism and are vulnerable to cardiac insults. Previous research demonstrated overt heart disorders of broiler chickens induced by dietary Se deficiency., Objectives: This study aimed to reveal effects and mechanism of dietary Se insufficiency on cardiac injuries of egg-type chicks in their early life., Methods: White Leghorn chicks (0-d-old, female) were fed a corn-soy, Se-insufficient basal diet (BD, 0.05 mg Se/kg; n = 11) or the BD supplemented with 0.3 mg Se/kg (as sodium selenite; n = 8) for 35 d. Cardiac tissues were collected at the end of study for histology and to determine its relationship with heart Se contents, selenoprotein expression profiles, antioxidant and inflammatory status, and the Toll-like receptor 4/extracellular signal-regulated kinases/p38 map kinase/c-Jun N-terminal kinase (TLR4/ERK/P38/JNK) pathway., Results: Compared with those fed 0.35 mg Se/kg, chicks fed BD had significantly lower body weights and average daily gain, and 28% lower heart Se, and developed cardiac mononuclear inflammatory cell infiltration, along with elevated (P < 0.05) serum concentrations of creatine kinase, aldolase, and interleukin-1 (IL-1). The BD decreased (P < 0.05) body weight and heart glutathione contents and expression of selenoproteins but increased (P < 0.05) heart concentrations of malondialdehyde and reactive oxygen species. These changes were associated with increased (P < 0.05) mRNA and/or protein concentrations of cyclooxygenases, lipoxygenase-12, cytokines (IL-1β), nuclear factor (NF) κB subunit, chemokines, and receptors (CCL20, CXCR1, and CXCLI2) and increased (P < 0.1) TLR4/ERK /P38/JNK in the heart of Se-insufficient chicks., Conclusions: Dietary Se insufficiency induces infiltration of mononuclear inflammatory cells in the heart of egg-type chicks. The poor hydrostability of most reported metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has become a daunting challenge in their practical applications. Recently, MOFs combined with multifunctional polymers can act as a functional platform and exhibit unique catalytic performance; they can not only inherit the outstanding properties of the two components but also offer unique synergistic effects. Herein, an original porous polymer-confined strategy has been developed to prepare a superhydrophobic MOF composite to significantly enhance its moisture or water resistance. The selective nucleation and growth of MOF nanocrystals confined in the pore of PDVB-vim are closely related to the structure-directing and coordination-modulating properties of PDVB-vim. The resultant MOF/PDVB-vim composite not only produces superior superhydrophobicity without significantly disturbing the original features but also exhibits a novel catalytic activity in the Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction of indoles with trans -β-nitrostyrene because of the accessible sites and synergistic effects.

The selectivity control of Pd nanoparticles (NPs) in the direct CO esterification with methyl nitrite toward dimethyl oxalate (DMO) or dimethyl carbonate (DMC) remains a grand challenge. Herein, Pd NPs are incorporated into isoreticular metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), namely UiO-66-X (X=-H, -NO 2 , -NH 2 ), affording Pd@UiO-66-X, which unexpectedly exhibit high selectivity (up to 99 %) to DMC and regulated activity in the direct CO esterification. In sharp contrast, the Pd NPs supported on the MOF, yielding Pd/UiO-66, displays high selectivity (89 %) to DMO as always reported with Pd NPs. Both experimental and DFT calculation results prove that the Pd location relative to UiO-66 gives rise to discriminated microenvironment of different amounts of interface between Zr-oxo clusters and Pd NPs in Pd@UiO-66 and Pd/UiO-66, resulting in their distinctly different selectivity. A general approach to prepare superhydrophobic MOFs (denoted as MOFs-CF 3 ) through a post-decorating strategy for highly efficient chemical fixation of CO 2 was demonstrated. The enhanced catalytic activity of MOFs-CF 3 is attributed to a synergistic effect between the Lewis acid sites of MOFs and modification of the electron-withdrawing trifluoromethyl group, which resulted in a high CO 2 enrichment capacity. The possible mechanism of cycloaddition catalyzed by the MOFs-CF 3 catalyst was also proposed.

Inspiration from natural enzymes enabling creationary catalyst design is appealing yet remains extremely challenging for selective methane (CH 4 ) oxidation. This study presents the construction of a biomimetic catalyst platform for CH 4 oxidation, which is constructed by incorporating Fe-porphyrin into a robust metal-organic framework, UiO-66, furnished with saturated monocarboxylic fatty acid bearing different long alkyl chains. The catalysts demonstrate the high efficiency in the CH 4 to methanol (CH 3 OH) conversion at 50 °C. Moreover, the selectivity to CH 3 OH can be effectively regulated and promoted through a fine-tuned microenvironment by hydrophobic modification around the Fe-porphyrin. The long-chain fatty acids anchored on the Zr-oxo cluster of UiO-66 can not only tune the electronic state of the Fe sites to improve CH 4 adsorption, but also restrict the amount of H 2 O 2 around the Fe sites to reduce the overoxidation. The chemical microenvironment modulation of metal nanoparticles (NPs) holds promise for tackling the long-lasting challenge of the trade-off effect between activity and selectivity in catalysis. Herein, ultrafine PdCu 2 NPs incorporated into covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with diverse groups on their pore walls have been fabricated for the semihydrogenation of alkynes. The Cu species, as the primary microenvironment of Pd active sites, greatly improves the selectivity. The functional groups as the secondary microenvironment around PdCu 2 NPs effectively regulate the activity, in which PdCu 2 NPs encapsulated in the COF bearing -CH 3 groups exhibit the highest activity with >99 % conversion and 97 % selectivity. Both experimental and calculation results suggest that the functional group affects the electron-donating ability of the COFs, which successively impacts the charge transfer between COFs and Pd sites, giving rise to a modulated Pd electronic state and excellent catalytic performance., (© 2023 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Background: We aimed to investigate the causal association between TIM-3 , an immune checkpoint inhibitor, and anterior uveitis (AU), as well as associated systemic immune diseases., Materials and Methods: We performed two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses to estimate the causal effects of TIM-3 on AU and three associated systemic diseases, namely ankylosing spondylitis (AS), Crohn's disease (CD), and ulcerative colitis (UC). Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with AU, AS, CD, and UC were selected as the outcomes: AU GWAS with 2,752 patients with acute AU accompanied with AS (cases) and 3,836 AS patients (controls), AS GWAS with 968 cases and 336,191 controls, CD GWAS with 1,032 cases and 336,127 controls, and UC GWAS with 2,439 cases and 460,494 controls. The TIM-3 dataset was used as the exposure ( n = 31,684). Four MR methods, namely, inverse-variance weighting (IVW), MR-Egger regression, weighted median, and weighted mode, were used in this study. Comprehensive sensitivity analyses were conducted to estimate the robustness of identified associations and the potential impact of horizontal pleiotropy., Results: Our studies show that TIM-3 is significantly associated with CD using the IVW method (OR = 1.001, 95% CI = 1.0002-1.0018, P -value = 0.011). We also found that TIM-3 may be a protective factor for AU although these results lacked significance (OR = 0.889, 95% CI = 0.631-1.252, P -value = 0.5). No association was observed between the genetic predisposition to particular TIM-3 and susceptibility to AS or UC in this study. No potential heterogeneities or directional pleiotropies were observed in our analyses., Conclusion: According to our study, a small correlation was observed between TIM-3 expression and CD susceptibility. Objectives: To develop a risk prediction model for severe adenovirus pneumonia (AVP) in children, and to explore the appropriate timing for intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy for severe AVP., Methods: Medical data of 1 046 children with AVP were retrospectively analyzed, and a risk prediction model for severe AVP was established using multivariate logistic regression. The model was validated with 102 children with AVP. Then, 75 children aged ≤14 years who were considered at risk of developing severe AVP by the model were prospectively enrolled and divided into three groups (A, B and C) in order of visit, with 25 children in each group. Group A received symptomatic supportive therapy only. With the exception of symptomatic supportive therapy, group B received IVIG treatment at a dose of 1g/(kg·d) for 2 consecutive days, before progressing to severe AVP. With the exception of symptomatic supportive therapy, group C received IVIG treatment at a dose of 1 g/(kg·d) for 2 consecutive days after progressing to severe AVP. Efficacy and related laboratory indicators were compared among the three groups after treatment., Results: Age<18.5 months, underlying diseases, fever duration >6.5 days, hemoglobin level <84.5 g/L, alanine transaminase level >113.5 U/L, and co-infection with bacteria were the six variables that entered into the risk prediction model for severe AVP. The model had an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.862, sensitivity of 0.878, and specificity of 0.848. The Hosmer-Lemeshow test showed good consistency between the predicted values and the actual observations ( P >0.05). After treatment, group B had the shortest fever duration and hospital stay, the lowest hospitalization costs, the highest effective rate of treatment, the lowest incidence of complications, the lowest white blood cell count and interleukin (IL)-1, IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10 levels, and the highest level of tumor necrosis factor alpha ( P <0.05)., Conclusions: The risk model for severe AVP established in this study has good value in predicting the development of severe AVP. IVIG therapy before progression to severe AVP is more effective in treating AVP in children.

Lung ischemia-reperfusion injury (LIRI)is a common complication after lung transplantation and cardiopulmonary bypass. It is an important factor affecting the success rate of transplantation. Its specific pathogenesis has not yet been fully elucidated. It is very significant to find the targets and drugs for the prevention and treatment of LIRI in order to improving the utilization rate of "marginal donor lung" and the long-term survival rate of lung transplant patients. Dipeptidyl peptidase 4(DPP4) inhibitors are a class of oral hypoglycemic agents. Previous studies have shown that DPP4 inhibitors have a variety of pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic, immunomodulatory and other extrapancreatic functions. Recent studies have shown that DPP4 inhibitors may alleviate LIRI through various mechanisms, including inhibiting inflammatory responses, reducing oxidative stress, regulating blood glucose levels, and activating autophagy. This article reviewed the clinical and preclinical applications and mechanisms of DPP4 inhibitors in LIRI.

The exposed facets of supported catalysts play a crucial role in catalysis; however, they are usually ignored and related studies remain rare. Herein, we have fabricated a series of sandwich-structured metal-organic framework composites, denoted ZIF-8 X @Pd@ZIF-8 (x represents the morphology of ZIF-8 core, i.e., ZIF-8 C exposing (100) facet, ZIF-8 RD exposing (110) facet, and ZIF-8 TRD exposing mixed (100) and (110) facets), featuring Pd nanoparticles deposited on the specific crystal facets of ZIF-8 core, for hydrogenation of p-chloronitrobenzene. The Pd electronic state is tailored by the ZIF-8 core, where more electron-deficient Pd is found in ZIF-8 C @Pd@ZIF-8 than that in ZIF-8 RD @Pd@ZIF-8, leading to discriminative adsorption of the -NO 2 and -Cl groups of p-chloronitrobenzene. Consequently, ZIF-8 C @Pd@ZIF-8 exhibits excellent activity (97.6 %) and selectivity (98.1 %) to p-chloroaniline. Objective: To investigate the efficacy of Integrative medicine (IM), compare with Western medicine (WM), in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in a cohort study. Methods: This is a cohort study with recruitment of RA patients from 10 hospitals in China. The primary outcome was change in disease activity score 28 (DAS28) during 4 follow-up visits. Generalized estimating equation (GEE) models that controlled for variables were used to investigate a time trend and assess group differences in the primary outcome and secondary outcomes after propensity score matching (PSM). Results: A total of 3195 patients with RA received IM (n = 1379, 43.2%) or WM (n = 1816, 56.8%). Following 1:1 propensity score matching, 1,331 eligible patients prescribed IM were compared to 1,331 matched patients prescribed WM. The GEE analysis with PSM showed that the IM was more beneficial to significantly decrease the levels of VAS, PGA and PhGA (VAS: odds ratio (OR), 0.76; 95% CI, 0.63-0.92; p = 0.004; PGA: OR, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.64-0.92; p = 0.007; and PhGA: OR, 0.77; 95% CI, 0.64, 0.93; p = 0.004), and reduce DAS28 (OR, 0.84; 95% CI, 0.73-0.98; p = 0.030) in the per-protocol population. Conclusion: This study suggests that compare to WM, IM has advantages in improving RA-related outcomes. However, the statistical significance might not reveal significant clinical difference. Background: Chinese medicine (CM) has become a popular interventional treatment for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, limited knowledge about general characteristics and long-term clinical outcomes hampers the development of CM for RA., Purpose: The main objectives of the China Rheumatoid Arthritis Registry of Patients with Chinese Medicine (CERTAIN) were to describe the population of RA patients receiving CM treatment in multiple centers in China using different variables and compare these findings with internationally reported data., Study Design: The CERTAIN is a prospective, multicenter, observational disease registry., Methods: Adult RA patients who fulfilled the 2010 American College of Rheumatology/ European League Against Rheumatism classification criteria for RA and received CM treatment were recruited into the CERTAIN by rheumatologists from 145 hospitals across 30 provinces in China. Data on demographics, disease characteristics, comorbidities, treatments, and adverse events, with a 2-year follow-up, were collected and documented using a predefined protocol., Results: In the 2 years since the study began in September 2019, 11,764 patients have been enrolled (enrolment is ongoing), and 13.10% of participants have completed the 6-month follow-up. We present the baseline characteristics of the first 11,764 enrollees., Conclusions: The CERTAIN is the first nationwide registry to document comprehensive data on CM treatment in patients with RA. Charge transfer between metal sites and supports is crucial for catalysis. Redox-inert supports are usually unfavorable due to their less electronic interaction with metal sites, which, we demonstrate, is not always correct. Herein, three metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are chosen to mimic inert or active supports for Pt nanoparticles (NPs) and the photocatalysis is studied. Results demonstrate the formation of a Schottky junction between Pt and the MOFs, leading to the electron-donation effect of the MOFs. Under light irradiation, both the MOF electron-donation effect and Pt interband excitation dominate the Pt electron density. Compared with the "active" UiO-66 and MIL-125 supports, Pt NPs on the "inert" ZIF-8 exhibit higher electron density due to the higher Schottky barrier, resulting in superior photocatalytic activity. Microglia are known to play essential roles in the development, progression and treatment of diverse neurodegenerative diseases in the central nervous system, including the retina, brain and spinal cord. Recently, brain-induced microglia-like cells (iMGs) have been generated from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs); however, retinal microglia have yet to be developed in vitro. In this study, by mimicking in vivo microglial development, we established a simplified approach to differentiate hPSCs into high purity (>90%) iMGs. The iMGs express microglia-specific markers, release cytokines upon stimulation, and are capable of phagocytizing bacteria. When co-cultured with three-dimensional human retinal organoids (hROs), iMGs migrated into the hROs, tended to differentiate into resident retinal microglia, and simultaneously induced apoptosis in some neural cells. Notably, the resident iMGs in the hROs formed sparse web-like structures beneath the photoreceptor cell layer, resembling microglia's orientation in human retina. In conclusion, we developed a simplified and efficient method to generate microglia from human pluripotent stem cells, and we report the first derivation of retinaresident microglia in vitro, providing a new source of human retinal microglia for developmental and disease studies and regenerative therapeutics., (© 2022. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used successfully to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA). QingreHuoxue treatment (QingreHuoxue decoction [QRHXD]/QingreHuoxue external preparation [QRHXEP]) is a Chinese medicine treatment for RA. To date, very few studies have compared the long-term effects of QRHXD with those of conventional disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs on RA disease activity and radiological progression. QRHXD delayed the radiological progression and showed long-term clinical efficacy of RA. In clinical experiments, the clinical evidence of delaying the radiological progression of RA patients was obtained. A portion of the patients who participated in the "Traditional Chinese Medicine QingreHuoxue Treatment vs. the Combination of Methotrexate and Hydroxychloroquine for Active Rheumatoid Arthritis" study were followed up for 52 weeks, and intention-to-treat (ITT) and compliance protocol (PP) analyses were used to collect and compare the clinical indicators and imaging data between baseline and week 52. Two radiologists who were blind to treatment scored the images independently. Of the 468 subjects, 141 completed the 52-week follow-up. There were no significant differences among the three groups: the traditional Chinese medicine comprehensive treatment group, the Western medicine treatment group, and the integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment group. There were no differences in the total Sharp score, joint space stenosis score, and joint erosion score at baseline or 52 weeks. In the comparison of the estimated annual radiographic progression (EARP) and the actual annual Sharp total score changes among the three groups, the actual changes were much lower than the EARP at baseline. The radiological progress in all three groups was well controlled. Results of the ITT and PP data sets showed that the disease activity score 28 level of the three groups at 52 weeks was significantly lower than that at baseline.
