Bombas centrífugas são amplamente utilizadas nos mais diversos setores, como industrial, agrícola, residencial, dentre outros. Em algumas aplicações, esses dispositivos são usados continuamente, resultando em uma parcela significativa do consumo energético. Portanto, melhorar a eficiência desses dispositivos é de grande benefício para a redução de custos. O presente trabalho utilizou a técnica de fluidodinâmica computacional (CFD) para projetar o impelidor de uma turbobomba, de forma a obter a máxima altura manométrica para o fluido sendo bombeado. O software Ansys® foi utilizado para a obtenção dos resultados simulados utilizando o modelo de turbulência κ-ε. Neste trabalho não foi considerada a interação do impelidor com a carcaça. Os parâmetros geométricos e o número de pás de um impelidor pré-definido foram alterados para obter a configuração que fornecesse o maior head. Um aumento de aproximadamente 12 % no head fornecido pelo impelidor foi obtido quando o número de pás no impelidor foi aumentada de 6 para 13.

O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar o comportamento hidrodinâmico de um reator UASB de 18 L por meio da fluidodinâmica computacional (CFD) e de ensaios do tipo estímulo-resposta experimentais. Foram realizadas simulações computacionais do comportamento hidrodinâmico do reator operando com a injeção de ar na região da manta de lodo (1º etapa). Foi realizada também a simulação de operação do reator com o preenchimento de 35% do seu volume útil com um polímero absorvente de água abiótico (2ª etapa). O modelo computacional utilizado para a simulação do reator em escala de bancada foi validado por meio da comparação do volume de zonas mortas obtido por meio das simulações com os valores calculados nos ensaios de estímulo-resposta com o traçador Eosina Y. O volume de zonas mortas calculadas por meio dos ensaios apresentou um erro de aproximadamente 43% em relação ao valor obtido com o modelo computacional do reator para a 1ª etapa, validando os resultados da simulação.

The objective of the present investigation was to computationally model a typical solar dryer for coffee, considering some alternative geometric configurations in the opening of windows to improve the thermal conditions within the drying structure which enable the water removal process of wet parchment coffee. The model was simulated in Ansys CFX® software. Simulation results showed that the geometry with an opening of 25 % in the air output window increased temperature in the coffee layer to 4.2 °C over room temperature, guaranteeing uniform drying, whereas the typical geometry with a 100 % opening increased temperature to 3.8 °C. When the maximum window opening for input and output of air was used, the relative humidity of air within the dryer decreased in comparison with the other geometries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Development of efficient and specific equipment to dry microalgae is essential for commercial use of these microorganisms that show high growth rates and biotechnological potential. Drying costs of microalgae biomass are still high and they should be reduced for the production of compounds with low added value. Therefore, we evaluated the drying process of the microalga Scenedesmus obliquus BR003 using low temperatures. S. obliquus BR003 is a robust microalga that shows high lipid productivity. At laboratory scale, it was observed that the biomass of S. obliquus BR003 was rapidly dried at low temperatures between 50 and 60 ° C. A gas dryer was used to evaluate the drying of the biomass of S. obliquus BR003 on a pilot-scale. The biomass was dried in less than 24 h using the gas dryer; however, the high moisture of the microalga biomass required a higher air renovation in the drying chamber. Computational fluid dynamics analysis of the gas dryer showed two important parameters to achieve greater effectiveness of heat and mass transfer rates during the drying process of the microalga biomass. It was concluded that a gas dryer suitable for the microalgae biomass should have multiple air injection points, and an efficient circulation and renovation system of air inside the drying chamber. RESUMO Neste trabalho apresenta-se um estudo numérico-experimental do comportamento da agitação de fluido em reservatórios de pulverizadores agrícolas. Uma adequada agitação da calda de defensivos agrícolas em um reservatório é muito importante para garantir a homogeneidade da pulverização ao longo de toda a cultura. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a viabilidade da utilização de um modelo computacional aplicado ao problema de agitação de calda em reservatórios de pulverizadores agrícolas, e assim, auxiliar no projeto dos mesmos, com economia de tempo e custo. Deste modo, resultados de simulações computacionais de fluidodinâmica (CFD) foram comparados a testes experimentais normalizados. Utilizando um modelo monofásico (água), avaliaram-se os perfis de velocidades e de tensões de cisalhamento na parede do reservatório, a fim de possibilitar a visualização do comportamento do fluido em agitação e relacionar essas variáveis com a concentração de resíduos. A comparação entre resultados experimentais e o modelo computacional desenvolvido mostrou-se viável, indicando que regiões com baixos valores numéricos de tensão de cisalhamento estavam em concordância com as regiões de alta deposição de cobre da solução-teste.

In some countries, summer over-heating is a big problem in a building’s energy balance. Ventilated façades are a useful tool when applied to building design, especially in bioclimatic building design. A ventilated facade is a complex, multi-layer structural solution that enables dry installation of the covering elements. The objective of this paper is to quantify the efficiency improvement in the building thermal when this sort of facade is installed. These improvements are due to convection produced in the air gap of the façade. This convection depends on the air movement inside the gap and the heat transmission in this motion. These quantities are mathematically modelled by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques using a commercial code: STAR CCM+. The proposed method allows an assessment of the energy potential of the ventilated façade and its capacity for cooling.En muchos países, el calentamiento en los edificios que se da en verano se convierte en una fuente de consumo energético importante. La fachada ventilada se convierte en una herramienta de diseño sostenible, especialmente en diseños preocupados por el bioclimatismo. La fachada ventilada es un sistema de envolvente del edificio basada en la combinación de los paneles cerámicos con la cámara de aire con objeto de favorecer un ahorro energético en condiciones adecuadas, especialmente frente a las necesidades de refrigeración. El objetivo de la presente contribución es cuantificar la contribución a la eficiencia energética en el comportamiento térmico de los edificios cuando se instala este tipo de fachada. Estas mejoras se deben a la convección producida por el movimiento del aire en la capa de la fachada. El movimiento convectivo del aire está ligado al intercambio de calor con los paneles de la fachada. Esta cuantificación se realiza por medio de la Fluido Dinámica Computacional utilizando un código comercial: STAR CCM+. La metodología propuesta permite una estimación del potencial ahorro de uso de fachada ventilada en unas ciertas condiciones, en relación con el enfriamiento del edificio.

Este trabalho apresenta uma metodologia de projeto eletrotérmico de diodos emissores de luz (LEDs) que tem o objetivo de proporcionar indicativos do melhor ponto de operação do LED, considerando seus aspectos térmicos, elétricos e fotométricos. A metodologia está baseada em um modelo eletrotérmico e através de uma análise matemática apresenta resultados teóricos para o projeto de sistemas de iluminação. Exemplos de projeto são desenvolvidos, os resultados teóricos são comparados com simulações computacionais da dinâmica dos fluidos utilizando o método de elementos finitos e por fim comprovados através de resultados experimentais.
