In Chaco, one of the provinces with higher deforestation rate in Argentina, the trajectory of this indicator was not homogenous. Besides, the decision-making of provincial state had different paths to respond to this problem. Thus, this paper tries to answer what the causes that influence in the state fluctuations in the implementation of environmental policies are. Throughout a case study in which I compare four different moments between 2008 and 2019, I argue that the state fluctuations depend on the resolution of the conflict between two coalition (protectionist vs. productivist). State responds favorably to one or another when one of them deploys three strategies together: coordination, institutional and public pressure strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Arginine, glutamine, and the branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) are a focus of increased interest in the field of oncology due to their importance in the metabolic reprogramming of cancer cells. In the tumor microenvironment (TME), these amino acids serve to support the elevated biosynthetic and energy demands of cancer cells, while simultaneously maintaining the growth, homeostasis, and effector function of tumor-infiltrating immune cells. To escape immune destruction, cancer cells utilize a variety of mechanisms to suppress the cytotoxic activity of effector T cells, facilitating T cell exhaustion. One such mechanism is the ability of cancer cells to overexpress metabolic enzymes specializing in the catabolism of arginine, glutamine, and the BCAAs in the TME. The action of such enzymes supplies cancer cells with metabolic intermediates that feed into the TCA cycle, supporting energy generation, or providing precursors for purine, pyrimidine, and polyamine biosynthesis. Armed with substantialmetabolic flexibility, cancer cells redirect amino acids from the TME for their own advantage and growth, while leaving the local infiltrating effector T cells deprived of essential nutrients. This review addresses the metabolic pressure that cancer cells exert over immune cells in the TME by upregulating amino acid metabolism, while discussing opportunities for targeting amino acid metabolism for therapeutic intervention. Special emphasis is given to the crosstalk between arginine, glutamine, and BCAA metabolism in affording cancer cells with metabolic dominance in the TME. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present article aims to make a methodological contribution to the study of the diverse and heterogeneous interactions between the environment and society, from Political Science. We start from the premise that the different approaches to the study of socio-environmental issues, although varied and based on diverse theories, generally do not visualize its explanatory theoretical characteristics. This situation makes methodological dialogue between them difficult and poses a difficulty for the synthesis of heterogeneous approaches. We seek to order theoretically the main approaches from Political Science (systemic, rationalist and intentional-strategic), describing its most important characteristics. Then, we root these approaches empirically, from the explanatory currents that study the social phenomena produced by the relationship between the environment and society, and we synthesize them with an integrating perspective. We propose three dynamic ideal types to integrate the approach to socio-environmental problems, opening a future agenda to deepen the methodology for the study of environmental policy, mainly in Latin America. In November of 2007 was passed the Native Forest Protection Law after a social and institutional controversial debate. This law has two differences regarding the others environmental laws. First, by the number of social and state actors who confronted about the standards of the law and, second, because it was the only law that use the tools of the General Law of Environment. This paper seeks to determine, how social and state actors act in the process of environmental policies formulation in Argentina? And what impact have these acts in the process? Applying the micro-political approach to the case, I argue that the heterogeneity of bureaucracies and the social distributive conflicts allow the conformation of state-society coalitions. The standards environmental policies, in this case the Forest Law, is result of the conformation, confrontation and negotiation of state-society coalitions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Intergovernmental coordination is a key factor to achieve a homogeneous implementation in national policies. However, the bibliography of coordination argues that the horizontal coordination (among jurisdictions of the same level of government) does not occur. On the contrary, this paper asks: Which factors produces that the subnational jurisdictions decide to act together to enforce a national environmental policy? Based on comparative analysis of the formulation process of the adequation laws to the National Forest Law in Argentina, I argue that the provinces act together when there are a regularized and legitim institutional frame available and a structures of incentives that produce that the locals politicians decide formulate and enforce an environmental policy in theirs jurisdictions. With the aim of slowing down the growly deforestation, in Argentina, on November 27th of 2007, it was passed the Native Forest Law (N° 26.331). This law, in comparison with others national environmental laws, has regulatory tools that could help to stop the deforestation and guarantee the environmental protection and the indigenous people rights. Also, this law is important to analyze the way the provinces answer to the constitutional obligation to the pass complementary laws in the environmental area. Keeping in mind this statements, this article is proposed to answer the next question: what has been the adequacy level of the provincial OTBNs towards the Native Forest Law between 2007 and 2017? To ask this question, I propose an exploratory study in which I do a comparison among all the provinces' laws passed until now, in relation to the standards and criteria's established in the national law. Based on the analyze made and using the environmental federalism bibliography, I argue that the application of the standards and criteria's of the national law is heterogenic among the Argentinean' provinces. R5120 --> 674.1 --> Diffuse large B‐cell Lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of aggressive non‐Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) worldwide. While therapeutic strategies to combat DLBCL have advanced, these malignancies continue to be challenging to treat due to their heterogeneity and frequently recurring mutations. Aberrations in the oncogene MYC are commonly found in high grade DLBCL and are associated with poor responses to standard therapy. In search of downstream targets of MYC in DLBCL, we found MYC‐binding sites in the promoter regions of BCAT1, BCAT2, and BCKDHA. These genes encode enzymes in the metabolism of the branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), and they have been previously linked to cancer progression. BCAT1 and 2 encode the cytosolic (BCATc) and mitochondrial (BCATm) branched‐chain aminotransferases, while BCKDHA encodes the E1α subunit of the branched‐chain ketoacid dehydrogenase complex. We hypothesized that MYC activates these genes in DLBCL tissues leading to upregulation of BCAA metabolism and lymphoma growth. Human tissues collected from DLBCL patients (n=89) or controls (n=33) were used to analyze the gene expression of MYC, BCAT1, BCAT2 and BCKDHA followed by correlative analysis of the expression of these genes and the survival of DLBCL patients. Next, human DLBCL and B‐lymphoblast (control) cells were treated with the MYC inhibitor 10058‐F4 (0, 25, 50, 100 µM), the BCAA antagonist N‐acetyl leucine amide (NALA, 0, 10, 20, 40 mM) and the BCATc inhibitor gabapentin (0, 5, 10, 20 mM). 24 hours post treatment, the cell viability and cell proliferation, as well as the protein expression of BCATc, BCATm, and E1α, and the total and phosphorylation states of the ribosomal protein S6 (a downstream target of the mammalian target of rapamycin, mTOR) were determined. Results showed that the gene expression of BCAT1, BCAT2and BCKDHA were significantly elevated in tumor tissues from DLBCL patients compared to controls, and there was a positive correlation between their expression and the upregulation of MYC in DLBCL tissues. The high expression of MYC and BCAT2, but not that of BCAT1 and BCKDHA, correlated with poor overall cancer survival. Inhibiting the MYC function by 10058‐F4, the BCAA uptake by NALA, and the BCATc activity by gabapentin led to concentration dependent reductions in the cell viability and proliferation of the DLBCL cells. The protein expression of BCATm and E1α were reduced in the presence of 10058‐F4, which correlated with downregulation of mTOR signaling as measured by the deceased phosphorylation state of S6 in treated DLBCL cells. These results support the hypothesis that MYC is an upstream regulator of genes associated with BCAA metabolism. The results also demonstrate that DLBCL cells need MYC and BCAAs to upregulate mTOR signaling and to survive and may represent a new molecular mechanism via which MYC exerts its effects in DLBCL lymphoma.
