Archaeological heritage is one of the oldest attractions that have played a significant role in the promotion of cultural/heritage tourism. Due to its particular demand, we can speak of a specific type of tourist focusing on archaeological areas: the concept of archaeotourist. This study aims to define the ‘archaeotourist’ as a specific type of tourist in cultural/heritage tourism, exploring the interplay between archaeological heritage, archaeological knowledge, expectations and experiences in archaeological destinations. An interview methodology was used to support our definitional approach, and the results will provide a new conceptual perspective and close a gap in the archaeotourism literature. Archaeological heritage is too important and valuable a resource to be left to tourism professionals and/or archaeologists alone. Protecting archaeological heritage sites and transferring them to future generations is not possible only through legal regulations and archaeological studies. They need to be brought into tourism by involving local people in the scope of archaeotourism planning. To address the issue, the ancient city of Tyana was chosen as a model to theorise and design a micro-level archaeotourism plan. The study aims to reveal the significance and characteristics of the city’s archaeological heritage and to understand local people’s attitudes towards archaeotourism through qualitative research. The study revealed that local people are keen to be a part of tourism activities for better service and that the heritage site is an important chance for development. Objective: On February 6, 2023, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.6 occurred in Kahramanmaras, affecting south and central Türkiye as well as north and west Syria. The objective of this study is to present the clinical and radiological findings of chest trauma patients in a significant disaster like an earthquake. It aims to contribute to early diagnosis and intervention in multidisciplinary treatment approaches, thereby reducing mortality and morbidity rates. Materials and Methods: This study was a cross-sectional type registry research. A total of 6,500 patients who presented to Kayseri City Hospital due to the earthquake between February 6, 2023 and February 20, 2023 were retrospectively reviewed through medical hospital records. Of these, 150 patients with blunt or penetrating chest trauma were included in the study. Results: Among the 6,500 patients screened, chest trauma was identified in 150 cases. The average age was 45.1 years. Of the patients, 40.0% arrived at the hospital within 0-1 days, while 10.7% arrived after 6 or more days, with the longest duration being 11 days. While 30.7% of patients had no rib fractures, 31.3% had fractures on the right side, 10.7% had bilateral fractures, and 23.3% had 5 or more rib fractures. Complications occurred in 61.3% of cases, 69.3% received medical treatment, and 26.7% underwent tube thoracostomy. The patients' hospital stays ranged from 0 to 162 days, with an average of 18 days and a median of 11.5 days. Conclusion: Türkiye and its surrounding regions are prone to frequent earthquakes, and similar events are expected in the future. A multidisciplinary patient approach, starting from the emergency department, plays a crucial role, with thoracic surgery being an integral part of this approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The cat gut-inhabitant conjoint microbiota is a peculiar ecosystem in relationship with several bodily functions and immunity. Gut microbiota dysbiosis could participate within autoimmune disease pathogenesis, whereas its niche, whether causative or influencing role regarding systemic immunity in autoimmune diseases, remains fugitive. The purpose of the present study was to identify gut microbiota alterations and probable mechanisms that participated in the development of Pemphigus foliaceus for a better understanding of future effective therapeutical armamentarium based on gut microbiota. In the present article, the authors investigated gut microbiota alterations to those of eight cats diagnosed with Pemphigus foliaceus. Furthermore, the study thoroughly analyzed pathogenic bacteria species as triggers of autoimmunity. The diagnostic algorithm involved two distinct sides: i) on referral with the first criteria was proof of evidence for possible autoimmunity, and ii) Pemphigus foliaceus diagnosis with relevant analytes. A total of eight cats were enrolled, and gut microbiomes were detected by the use of the MIDOG All-in-One Microbial Test targeting Next-Generation DNA Sequencing. By this methodology, we analyzed the dysbiosis network for bacterial kingdoms and determined the relationship between disease activity related to Pemphigus foliaceus and gut microbiota. The data showed increasing abundances of Collinsella, Lachnospiroceae, and Escherichia coli and decreasing Desulfovibrio piger, Prevotella copri, and Helicobacter cianedi among cats with pemphigus foliaceus. For the first time in Turkey, the gut microbiota of cats with pemphigus foliaceus were detected, the results of which could be cautiously taken into consideration for novel and effective therapeutical approaches. Introduction: One of the consequences of improper placentation is placenta previa, a condition in which the placenta is located on or near the internal cervical os. This condition is the major cause of bleeding in the last trimester of pregnancy. It is one of the causes of both maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Placenta accreta is a disorder caused by abnormal invasion of the placental villi into the myometrium. In this study, we aimed to compare the histopathologic changes in placenta previa, placenta acreata and normotensive placentas during the third trimester of pregnancy. Materials and methods: In our study, placentas of a total of 60 pregnant women including 20 placenta previa, 20 placenta acreata and 20 normotensive pregnant women were used and the placentas were compared histopathologically. Results: In the control group placentas, the appearance of endothelial cells was normal, with a slight distribution of erythrocytes in the intervillous areas. Fibrinoid structures were observed to be smooth. Dysfunctional development of endothelial cells was observed in the sections of the placenta acreata group. Congestion and edema were observed in the vessels and degeneration was detected in the cells in the syncytial region. In placenta previa sections, muscle cells showed prominent pyknotic nucleus structures. Dilatations and fibronoid structures were seen in the vessels. Dense erythrocyte accumulation was detected in the intervillous areas. Along with increasing competition in cultural industries, museums have emerged as a research subject of the marketing field. Accordingly, two research streams, experiential consumption-oriented and customer experience management-oriented studies, have evolved. Experiential consumption-oriented studies focused on the experience types and outputs that occur in the museum. On the other hand, customer experience management-oriented studies discussed service-related stimuli in the museum. Although these studies offered diverse findings, they remained insufficient in identifying types and outcomes of experiences that emerge in the museum comprehensively. Thereby, this study developed a detailed conceptual model that includes experience types and outputs by employing a systematic literature review on experiential consumption-oriented studies. The findings contribute to the museum and marketing literature and related professionals. Especially, an innovative perspective is offered to the literature by identifying environment-based experiences, which were previously neglected, as experience type along with the visitor-based experiences. Canine visceral leishmaniasis has been denoted as neglected despite being a very well-known disease. Trace element alteration has been recognized in humans with visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis, together with canine visceral leishmaniasis. The trace elements occupy a vital position in the immunological system, and host immune responses mitigate defense against leishmaniasis. We aimed to select trace elements in a total of 45 dogs of several breeds; those at the age of 11 months to 6 and from both sexes (26 male and 19 female) were enrolled in the study. The dogs included in the study were divided into leishmaniasis-infected and noninfected groups. All cases in this study were included according to written owner consent. The trace element analysis of serum samples was carried out by using an inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry. The results of our study revealed that between the canine visceral leishmaniasis infected group and the uninfected group, Leishmania-positive dogs had significantly lower levels of Se (p < 0.001) and Zn (p < 0.001) compared to the negative ones. These results should be carefully elucidated in an attempt to analyze immune responses in dogs with canine visceral leishmaniasis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: A retroaortic left renal vein (RLRV) passes between the abdominal aorta and the vertebra, and drains into the inferior vena cava. This causes compression of the left renal vein between the abdominal aorta and the vertebra, and increased pressure in the left renal vein. In this study, we aimed to evaluate whether increased pressure in the left renal vein is associated with simple renal cysts in patients with RSRV in abdominal computed tomography (CT). Material and Method: This study was performed retrospectively by scanning the abdominal CT images between 2015-2019. A total of 198 patients with RLRV were included in the study. It was statistically evaluated whether there was a significant difference between the right and left kidney in terms of number and size of cysts. Results: The mean age of the patients was 52.6±16.5 (19-90). There was no significant difference between the two kidneys in terms of number of cysts (P=0.737). There was a significant difference between the two kidneys in terms of cyst size (P=0.012). Cysts in the left kidney with RLRV were significantly larger. Conclusion: In our study, while we could not find a significant difference between the two kidneys in terms of cyst numbers, we found that the size of the cysts in the left kidney with RLRV was significantly larger. This suggests that RLRV may not have an effect on formation of renal cyst, but may affect the size of the formed cysts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the gold standard examination in the evaluation of shoulder pathologies, but it is a static method, expensive and examination time is long. Ultrasonography (US) is a fast, easy-to-apply, cheap and common imaging method, but it is more subjective and dependent on experience. In this study, we aimed to compare the diagnostic accuracy of US with MRI in the diagnosis of shoulder joint pathologies, with increasing experience. Methods: A radiologist without sufficient shoulder US experience read the literature on shoulder US. Then, for 2 weeks, US was performed for training in 100 patients whose MRI findings were known. Subsequently, for 5 weeks, firstly US, then MRI were performed a total of 250 patients, including 50 patients every week. With increased US experience, it was investigated whether the consistency between US and MRI findings increased. Results: One hundred and sixty (64%) of the patients were female and 90 (36%) were male. The mean age of the patients was 54±11.7. Each week, patients were evaluated as a separate group, with a total of 5 groups. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were calculated which were achieved with increasing US experience. Conclusion: When sufficient experience is gained in shoulder pathologies, diagnostic accuracy increases significantly in US. The success of US in partial tears is behind MRI. US lags behind MRI in showing joint effusion. The sensitivity and specificities in the subacromial-subdeltoid effusion are close to MRI. The rates of US to detect total tears, biceps tenosynovitis and acromioclavicular joint degeneration are similar to MRI. US is successful than MRI in showing calcific tendinitis, biceps subluxation-dislocation and impingement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVES: We evaluated the muscle responses of rat trachea to LA drugs, such as lidocaine and prilocaine, in terms of airway spasms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 16 male rats were used. After ketamine anesthesia, the tracheal ring of each rat was removed and placed in the organ bath in the Krebs solution. The rat tracheal veins were randomly divided into two groups based on the LA applied at the basal tonus level: group 1 (n=8), lidocaine; group 2 (n=8), prilocaine. Second, the baths were washed. Supramaximal contraction was obtained by applying acetylcholine to the tracheal rings (n=16) at a basal tonus level. The rat tracheas with supramaximal contraction were randomly divided into two groups: group 3 (n=8), lidocaine; group 4 (n=8), prilocaine. The contraction responses of each group were recorded and statistically compared. RESULTS: Lidocaine constituted a significant relaxation response in the tracheal tissue in both basal tonus and supramaximal tonus levels. Moreover, it was observed that the relaxation of lidocaine was higher in the supramaximal contraction than in the basal tonus tension level. However, for prilocaine, no significant change was observed in both tonus levels. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that lidocaine as a LA drug should be preferred as the first choice in patients with respiratory risk, and that its use over prilocaine should be preferred, if supported by advanced clinical studies. Objective: Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an MRI method based on the principle of measuring diffusion-induced movements of water molecules in tissues. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary malignant tumor of the liver and it is very important to distinguish it from other lesions in the early stage for curative treatment. In this study, we aimed to investigate the efficacy of diffusion MRI in differentiating HCC from other common liver focal lesions such as metastasis, cholangiocarcinoma and focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH). Methods: The diffusion MRI images of 157 patients with histopathological diagnosis of HCC, metastasis, cholangiocarcinoma and FNH were retrospectively analyzed and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of the lesions were measured. The ADC values were compared statistically and it was evaluated whether ADC values contributed to the diagnosis, especially in distinguishing HCC from other lesions. Results: The mean ADC values were measured as 836.6 ± 182.4 x10-6 mm2/sn in 38 HCC cases, 801.4 ± 239.4 x10-6 mm2/sn in 22 cholangiocarcinoma cases, 923.7 ± 279 x10-6 mm2/sn in 77 metastasis cases and 1202.9 ± 139.3 x10-6 mm2/sn in 20 FNH cases. There was a statistically significant difference between ADC values of HCC and FNH. There was no statistically significant difference between HCC and other focal lesions. Conclusion: ADC values in differentiating HSC from FNH provide additional contribution to diagnosis, whereas ADC values in differentiating HSC from cholangiocarcinoma and metastasis do not contribute to diagnosis.
