The article presents the results of studying the fauna of Lepidoptera in the North Kazakhstan region in the field season of 2023. An annotated check-list includes 162 species from the families Psychidae, Plutellidae, Depressariidae, Autostichidae, Gelechiidae, Pterophoridae, Pyralidae, Crambidae, Tortricidae, Cossidae, Sesiidae, Hesperiidae, Papilionidae, Pieridae, Lycaenidae, Nymphalidae, Satyridae, Drepanidae, Geometridae, Lasiocampidae, Lemoniidae, Endromididae, Sphingidae, Notodontidae, Arctiidae, Erebidae, Noctuidae. 47 species reported from the North Kazakhstan region for the first time.

Spiny Hook-tip Watsonalla uncinula (Borkhausen, 1790) is confirmed as a British species from Gloucestershire, Glamorgan and Somerset in 2023. Previous photographic evidence suggests the species may have been present in Britain since at least 2021. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The discovery of Spiny Hook-tip Watsonalla uncinula (Borkhausen, 1790) in Guernsey, Channel Islands in July 2023 is reported. The species is believed to be resident on the island and may have been so for several years. The adult moth is very similar to Oak Hook-tip Watsonalla binaria (Hufnagel, 1767) and comparative features are described. Larvae of the two species appear indistinguishable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, a genus, Achlya longipennis Inoue, 1972, is reported for the first time from Korea with a newly recorded species. The adult and genitalic structures of the newly recorded species are redescribed with illustrations of adult and male genitalia. In addition, an annotated checklist of the genus is provided.

Tethea albicostata is a widely distributed insect species in northern and central China. To date, few studies have been conducted on this species, with the exception of morphological taxonomy studies. Here, we report the complete mitochondrial genome of T. albicostata collected in China. The circular-mapping mitogenome is 15,308 bp in length, with an overall A + T content of 80.52%, encoding 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and 13 protein-coding genes. The gene arrangement and components of T. albicostata are identical to those of most other Lepidopteran insects. Phylogenetic analysis based on mitogenomes showed that T. albicostata is grouped with Drepana pallida, which belongs to the same family as Drepanidae. The family Drepanidae formed a separate branch from other families in the phylogenetic tree. This study determined the second mitochondrial genome of the Drepanidae species.

Reporting the range extension of Agnidra vinacea (Moore, 1879) from eastern Himalayas to Uttarakhand, western Himalayas. The individuals of the species were documented from western Himalayas by both opportunistic sighting and light-trapping method by using LepiLED. The species was also recorded from sites other than documented so far in the available literature from the eastern Himalaya.

Caterpillars of the poplar lutestring moth, Tethea or, construct leaf shelters that they defend against intruding conspecifics using a combination of vibratory signals and physical aggression. Staged interactions between a resident caterpillar and introduced conspecific were recorded with a video camera and laser vibrometer. Residents crawl towards the intruder and perform three behaviours: lateral hitting, pushing, and mandible scraping. Vibrations caused by mandible scraping result from the caterpillar repeatedly scraping opened mandibles laterally against the leaf surface in bouts lasting 1.16 ± 0.39 s, with an average of 4 ± 1 scrapes per bout. We propose that these scrapes function in leaf shelter defense against conspecifics for the following reasons: Mandible scrapes are produced only by residents; they are generated when a resident is approached by an intruder; the rate of scraping increases as the intruder approaches the shelter; and residents in all trials retain their shelters, with the intruder leaving the leaf within 127.9 ±104.3s from the beginning of the trial. The function and evolutionary origins of vibration-mediated territoriality in caterpillars are discussed.

This is the first confirmed record of a 430 mm TL spotted sicklefish, Drepane punctata (Linnaeus, 1758), in the Gulf of Oman collected in August 2021. Here, we describe a hyperostotic deformity in the head, maxilla and premaxilla, dorsal fin, caudal fin rays, and neural and haemal spines of some vertebrae. In the head, the occipital and supraoccipital crests were swollen. Also, we compare morphometric and meristic data with other specimens from other geographic regions. Для фауны Байкальского заповедника приводятся 157 видов чешуекрылых дрепаногеометроидного комплекса из трёх семейств: пухоспинки (Thyatiridae), серпокрылки (Drepanidae) и пяденицы (Geometridae). Восемь видов впервые указаны для Прибайкальского региона. Большинство видов прибайкальской фауны (145) имеют широкие ареалы: голарктические, палеарктические, евросибирские и западнопалеарктические.

Приводится 302 вида семейств Hepialidae, Limacodidae, Cossidae, Thyatiridae, Drepanidae, Geometridae, Lasiocampidae, Endromididae, Saturniidae, Sphingidae, Notodontidae, Lymantriidae, Arctiidae, Noctuidae и Micronoctuidae, собранных в Большехехцирском заповеднике в 2011 году в неотмеченные ранее сроки лёта. Среди них Microleon longipalpus Btl. (Limacodidae), Monocerotesa lutearia Leech, Descoreba simplex Btl., Pterotocera ussurica Djak. (Geometridae), Micromelalopha vicina Kiriakoff (Notodontidae), Schrankia kogii Inoue, Araeopteron makikoae Fibiger et Kononenko, A. nebulosa Inoue, A. ussurica Fibiger et Kononenko, Oruza yoshinoensis Wileman, Remmigabara secunda Remm, Lygephila mirabilis Bryk, Athetis pallidipennis Sugi (Noctuidae) – впервые найдены в Хабаровском крае, Kitanola uncula Stgr., Heterogenea asella Den. et Schiff., Parasa consocia Wlk. (Limacodidae), Hagapteryx admirabilis Stgr. (Notodontidae), Calliteara abietis Den. et Schiff. (Lymantriidae), Nola cicatricalis Tr., Anatatha lignea Btl., Hepatica anceps Stgr., Gonepatica opalina Btl., Diomea jankowskii Obth., Sinarela cristulalis Stgr., Plusidia cheitanthi Tausch., Chorsia costimacula Obth., Brachionycha sajana Drdt., Pyrrhia hedemanni Stgr., Caradrina petraea Tngstr. Таким образом, 35 видов найдены в заповеднике впервые. Определение Mythimna (Sablia) albiradiosa Ev. исправлено на Rotoa distincta A.B.-H. Общее число зарегистрированных в Большехехцирском заповеднике видов Macroheterocera без пядениц и совок достигло 259 видов, Noctuidae и Micronoctuidae – 522 вида, а общее число всех Lepidoptera – 2087 видов.

Приводится 38 видов чешуекрылых из семейств Epicopeidae, Thyatiridae, Drepanidae, Lasiocampidae, Saturniidae, Sphingidae, Notodontidae, Lymantriidae, Arctiidae, собранных в 2011 году в верховьях р. Бурея, преимущественно на территории Буреинского заповедника. Из них 10 видов в бассейне Верхней Буреи отмечены впервые (Falcaria lacertinaria L., Hyloicus morio Rothsc. et Jord., Cerura felina Butl., Furcula bicuspis Borkh., Notodonta stigmatica Mats., Odontosia patricia Stich., Gluphisia crenata Esp., Pygaera timon Hbn., Clostera pigra Hufn., Calliteara pudibunda L.). Также 17 видов впервые указаны для территории Буреинского заповедника. Notodonta stigmatica Mats. является новым видом для фауны Хабаровского края.

Приводится 175 видов семейств Hepialidae, Limacodidae, Thyatiridae, Drepanidae, Lasiocampidae, Saturniidae, Brahmaeidae, Sphingidae, Notodontidae, Lymantriidae, Arctiidae, Noctuidae и Micronoctuidae, собранных в Большехехцирском заповеднике в 2010 году в неотмеченные ранее сроки лёта. Среди них Dolgoma cribrata Stgr., Eilema digna Ignatyev et Witt (Arctiidae, Lithosiinae), Enispa lutefascialis Leech и Lygephila dubatolovi Fibiger, Kononenko et Nilsson (Noctuidae) – впервые найдены в Хабаровском крае, Pharmacis fusconebulosa De Geer (Hepialidae), Narosoides fuscicostalis Fxs. (Limacodidae), Habrosyne intermedia Brem. (Thyatiridae), Parasiccia altaica Led. (Arctiidae, Lithosiinae), Schrankia separatalis Herz, Pangrapta costaemacula Stgr., P. suaveola Stgr., Holocryptis nymphula Rbl., Ctenoplusia albostriata Brem. et Grey, Polychrysia aurata Stgr., Acronicta catocaloida Graes., Platyperigea petraea Tngstr., Capsula sparganii Esp., Polia mortua Stgr., Chersotis deplanata Ev. (Noctuidae) – в Большехехцирском заповеднике. Таким образом,19 видов найдены в заповеднике впервые. Подтверждено сборами нахождение в заповеднике Sideridis incommoda Stgr. (Noctuidae). Определение Hagapteryx admirabilis Stgr. исправлено на H. mirabilior Obth., Eilema affineolum (Brem.) – на E. nankingicum (Dan.). Общее число зарегистрированных в Большехехцирском заповеднике видов Macroheterocera без пядениц и совок достигло 253 вида, Noctuidae и Micronoctuidae – 497 видов, а общее число всех Lepidoptera – 1998 видов.

Приводится 70 видов семейств Hepialidae, Psychidae, Cossidae, Limacodidae, Thyatiridae, Drepanidae, Lasiocampidae, Endromididae, Sphingidae, Notodontidae, Lymantriidae, Arctiidae, Noctuidae, Pieridae, собранных в Нижнем Приамурье в 2010 году. Впервые в Хабаровском крае (Киселёвка) найден Coenagria nana Stgr. (Noctuidae), впервые в Нижнем Приамурье обнаружено 18 видов. Впервые выявлены северные пределы распространения: в Нанайском районе – Phyllosphingia dissimilis Brem. (Sphingidae), Uropyia meticulodina Obth., Lophocosma atriplaga Stgr. (Notodontidae), Cymatophoropsis trimacula Brem., Apamea aquila Donz., Xestia fuscostigma Brem. (Noctuidae), в окрестностях Комсомольска-на-Амуре – Streltzoviella insularis Stgr. (Cossidae), Gastropacha orientalis Shelj. (Lasiocampidae), Peridea aliena Stgr., P. jankowskii Obth. (Notodontidae), Gelastocera ochroleucana Stgr., Pangrapta suaveola Stgr., Zanclognatha umbrosalis Stgr., Koyaga numisma Stgr., Apamea sordens Hfn. (Noctuidae), Pieris melete Mén. (Pieridae). Исправлено определение Micromelalopha troglodita Graes. (Notodontidae) из Киселёвки на M. sieversi Stgr., исключён Paracolax trilinealis Brem. (Noctuidae), ранее ошибочно указанный из Тыра.

Приводится 337 видов семейств Drepanidae, Saturniidae, Lymantriidae, Arctiidae и Noctuidae, собранных в Большехехцирском заповеднике в 2009 году. Среди них Spilarctia alba Brem. et Grey (=robustum Leech) – впервые найден на территории России; Psyche casta Pall., Spilarctia subcarnea Wlk., Paraphyllophila confusa Kon., Blasticorhinus unduligera Btl. – впервые найдены в Хабаровском крае, Oreta parki Inoue, Rhodinia fugax Btl., Pida niphonis Butler, 1881, Hypena stygiana Btl., Autographa amurica Stgr., Eucarta amethystina Hb., Bryoleuca granitalis Btl., Athetis pallustris Hb., Lacanobia aliena Hb., Sideridis incommoda Stgr., Mythimna separata Wlk., Euxoa karschi Graes., E. tritici L., Diarsia brunea Den. et Schiff., Xestia descripta Brem. – в Большехехцирском заповеднике. Переопределены предыдущие указания: Hemaris radians Wlk. – на H. affinis Brem., Abrostola triplasia L. – на A. ussuriensis Duf.

Приводятся определительные таблицы 13 родов и 27 видов совковидок фауны Дальнего Востока России, в которых даны диагнозы родов, а также видовые очерки, включающие сведения по распространению, биологии и географической изменчивости рассматриваемых таксонов.

Abstract: Genus Oreta Walker of Drepanidae in Korea is reviewed, with six species including a new species, sambongsana sp. nov., which is closely similar to O. pulchripes in superficial and genital characters. The complete mitochondrial genome of theDrepane punctatawas presented in our study. The mitochondrial genome is 16,397 bp long and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes, 16 tRNA genes and a control region. The gene order and composition ofD. punctatamitochondrial genome was different from that of most other vertebrates. The nucleotide compositions of the light strand are 24.56% of A, 16.02% of C, 27.81% of T and 31.61% of G. With the exception of the NADH dehydrogenase subunit 6 (ND6) and five tRNA genes, all other mitochondrial genes are encoded on the heavy strand. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
