This study explores the mediating role of health literacy on the association between health care system distrust and vaccine hesitancy. An online survey including Personal Information Form, Health Care System Distrust Scale, Vaccine Hesitancy Scale, and Health Literacy Scale were applied to 620 participants. The degree of applying mask-wearing, hygiene rule and physical distance, and the level of COVID-19 vaccine literacy were modeled with hierarchical multiple regression analysis to have a deeper analysis of participants' actions towards COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. It was found that health care system distrust and health literacy were the most important variables that had an impact on vaccine hesitancy. Based on the mediation analysis, the total effect of health care system distrust on vaccine hesitancy was statistically significant. Participants who held a low level of health literacy and a high perception of the health care system distrust experienced more vaccine hesitancy. The findings suggested the health literacy mediated the relationship between health care system distrust and vaccine hesitancy. Introduction and aim. Despite critical role of nurses in managing medication1, public perspectives of the role nurses play in rational drug use is still unclear. The study aimed to asess the impact of the "HEALTHgain" game, an educational tool, on enhancing individual comprehension of proper medication usage and their perceptions of the significance of the contributions of nurses in society. Material and methods. This pretest-post-test, randomized control study took place betweenn May and November 2022 in Turkey. Two-hundred and thirty seven individuals aged 18 years and above were recruited. Results. The "HEALTHgain" game had a noteworthy impact on the knowledge of rational drug usage (F(1)=45.739, p<0.001) and attitudes of society towards a nurse's role in rational drug use between the baseline and end measurements after 14-day of playing the game (F(1)=283.434, p<0.001). Morover, there were a significant improvement in both intervention and control group knowledge level of rational drug use between the initial and final assessments after a two-week period of game play, though it had not been presented in any table (t=-3.824, p<0.001 for control group; t=-35.492, p<0.001 for intervention group). Conclusion. The study recommends that enhancing the game through contributions from various disciplines could elevate the rational use of medical knowledge and positively influence individual attitudes toward the role of nurses. Background: The prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) remains high worldwide in today's society, especially among young people. Youth education on STDs could help to reduce the prevalence of the condition in society and prevent new cases. Aim: The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of peer‐based short‐form educational videos on youths' knowledge of STDs. Methods: This quasi‐experimental study was conducted in Turkey. The sample consisted of 121 students divided into experimental and control groups. Pre‐ and post‐test control group quasi‐experimental research design was employed in this study during the spring semester of the academic year 2021–2022. Peer‐based short‐form educational videos created by nursing students were used as an intervention. The survey form and Sexually Transmitted Disease Knowledge Questionnaire were used to collect data. Results: Participants with parental responsibilities and had previous STD experience had higher knowledge score than the other subgroups. There was a significant main effect of peer‐based short‐form educational video on participants overall knowledge score of STDs. Additionally, the effect of intervention continued at 12‐week follow‐up measurement. Conclusion: Peer‐based short‐form educational videos increase young people's knowledge of STD, and the impact of the intervention continued at 12‐week follow up. Aims: This study aimed to investigate the experiences and transitional care needs of Turkish frail older adults living in the UK and determine how this information can be utilized to improve the provision of culturally sensitive care during the transitional period. Design: Qualitative descriptive research with semi‐structured individual interviews. Methods: "The 'Silences' Framework guided the research design, from conceptualizing the research question to structuring the report of final outputs. For this study, semi‐structured, in‐depth interviews were conducted with sixteen older adults living with frailty and five family caregivers between January and May of 2023 in the United Kingdom. Results: Major themes that were identified included: (i) information and communication, (ii) care and support, (iii) the role of culture and (iv) trust and satisfaction. Further analysis, through discussion and immersion in the data, revealed that care transition periods were presented alongside three phases of transitional care: pre‐transition (during hospitalization), early‐transition (the period between discharge and the 7th day after discharge) and late transition (the period between the 8th day and 12th month after discharge). Conclusions: Our study revealed that the communication and informational needs of frail older individuals change during the transition period. While Turkish older adults and family caregivers expressed satisfaction with healthcare services in the UK, many struggled due to a lack of knowledge on how to access them. Impact: The support of family caregivers is a crucial component in facilitating transitional care for frail older patients, as they help in accessing healthcare services and using technological devices or platforms. Introduction and aim. Health promotion is one of the common elements of sustainable development goals. The aim of this study was to identify the impact of "Healthy Life and Environment" course on nursing student's awareness of sustainable development and healthy life, and health-promoting lifestyle behaviours. Material and methods. A pre-, and post-test control group quasi-experimental research design was used. One nursing department located in Nortwest Blacksea region, Turkey. A total of 160 nursing students pursuing bachelor nursing programs. Students from first and second years who enrolled in the "Healthy Life and Environment" course assigned to intervention group, those who did not attend the course assigned to control group. Results. Female students had higher level of HPLP II and SDA than male. SDA had a weak correlation with HLA and a very week correlation with HPLP II at baseline. Intervention group had an improvement of .03 points in HPLP II, no change in HLA, and a slight improvement of .01 points in SDA, however these differences were not statistically important. Introduction and aim. Falls are the second leading cause of unintentional death in the world. The study was conducted to examine the risk of falls and levels of frailty in older adult patients admitted to the emergency department due to fractures, as well as to identify the factors that influence fall risk and frailty levels. Material and methods. This cross-sectional and correlational study conducted with 155 older patients. Data collected by the patient information form, Itaki Fall Risk Scale and Edmonton Frail Scale. Results. Patients diagnosed with fracture in the emergency department had a high risk of falling with a mean score of 9.55±3.84.70.3% of the patients were frail. The one-third (30.3%) had severe frailty. There was a moderate positive correlation between the risk of falling and the mean frailty score of the older adult patients (p<0.001). Conclusion. The study showed that older adults admitted to the emergency department due to falls are at high risk of falling and the majority of them are frail. Early determination of fall risk and frailty levels in the older adults with a history of falling, prevention of falls and fractures due to falls will be beneficial in increasing the quality of life of the older adults. Aim: To determine the effect of male nursing students' voluntary activities on their image in society. Background: The role of voluntary nursing services in enhancing the visibility of nursing in society can also contribute to enhancing the image of male nurses in society. Methods: This study employed a one‐group, quasi‐experimental pre–post analysis design. It was carried out between September 2020 and June 2021 in the pedestrian zone, which is one of the main streets of Bartın in Turkey. Using a convenience sampling approach, tradesmen aged 18 and over operating in commercial enterprises (n = 81) were asked to participate in the study. Information form and Nursing Image Scale were used to collect the research data. Results from the paired sample t test were utilized to analyse the study's data using the intervention of 'men nursing students' voluntary activities'. Results: The total Nursing Image Scale score of the participants was statistically considerably greater after the intervention than the pre‐intervention score. Based on the paired sample t test results, it was observed that the participants obtained higher scores after the intervention than before in the gender sub‐dimension as well as all other sub‐dimensions of the Nursing Image Scale, and these results were statistically significant. Conclusion: According to the findings of the study, volunteering by male nursing students improved both the profession of nursing and the perception of men in nursing in society. Implications for nursing/health policy: This study suggested that male nursing students' voluntary activities could be one of the strategies to overcome the nursing shortage due to its enhancing effect on the profession of nursing and the perception of men in nursing in society. Aims: To critically synthesize the empirical literature on practice in transitional care and how to meet the care needs of older ethnic minority populations who discharged from hospital to community. Design: An integrative literature review integrating empirical studies using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses guidelines. Data Sources: PubMed, Web of Science, PsycINFO, EBSCO (including CINAHL and MEDLINE) and Scopus were searched for papers published between 2012 and September 2022. Review Methods: Full‐text papers were screened against inclusion and exclusion criteria subsequent to screening titles and abstracts. All included papers were evaluated for methodological quality using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme Checklists. After extracting findings, themes were created by critically examining and synthesizing of findings. Results: The search yielded a total of 1180 studies, 1153 after removing duplicates and 27 papers meeting the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria were included in the review. The main findings were categorized into four themes: (i) intervention‐related outcomes; (ii) unmet needs of older minority people; (iii) transitional care–related characteristics of older minority people and (iv) challenges for healthcare providers. Findings indicated that the transitional care experience of ethnic minority older populations differed from natives to some extent which revealed unmet needs addressing how to provide culturally appropriate transitional care for this population. Conclusion: This review gave insight into facilitators in the transitional care of ethnic minority older adults. Future transitional care interventions should incorporate needs of ethnic minority population. Impact: This review highlighted the defined gaps between existing transitional care programmes and transitional care needs of older ethnic minority. Objective: This study aimed to determine the factors affecting the quality of sleep in pregnant women with respect to maternal age. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the Gynecology and Obstetrics Outpatient Clinic of Bartın State Hospital. The research data were collected using questionnaires Whooley questions, Pittsburg sleep quality index, and the 12-item shortform health survey. Results: This study included 135 pregnant women, of whom 43 were =35 years, 46 were 23-34 years, and 46 were =29 years old. The mean sleep quality score of the advanced maternal age group was 4.88 [standard deviation (SD), 2.27], which was lower than the maternal age group of 30-34 years (5.78; SD, 2.94) and =29 years (5.02; SD, 3.38). Of the total participants, 52.6% were poor sleepers. Approximately 65% of the participants were Whooley-positive. The mean of the physical and mental component summary was 43.04 (SD, 6.04) and 44.05 (SD, 6.03), respectively, for each maternal age group. No significant differences were found among the maternal age groups in terms of sleep quality, depression, and quality of life. Conclusion: The study results revealed similar characteristics among pregnant women of advanced and young maternal age concerning quality of life, sleep quality, and maternal depression. Background: Transitional care is a key area of care provision to older people with chronic and complex health conditions and is associated with the quality of care delivered in the healthcare system. Aims: This study aimed to explore the perspectives of healthcare providers, including nurses and physicians, regarding transitional care from hospital to home in an urban area of Turkey. Methods: A qualitative study using a thematic analysis method was carried out. In‐depth semi‐structured interviews were held with eight clinical nurses and five general physicians involved in the provision of healthcare services to older patients in the transitional care process from hospital to home. Findings: The thematic analysis of in‐depth semi‐structured interviews with 13 healthcare professionals led to the development of the following themes: 'uninterrupted chain of care transfer', 'commitment to meet patient's needs' and 'support and removing ambiguities'. Conclusions: Key factors impacting on the quality and safety of transitional care and continuity of healthcare are communication and collaboration between healthcare staff and settings, and older patients' as well as family caregivers' awareness and their feelings of responsibility towards the continuity of care at home. This study was aimed to evaluate the perspective of senior nursing students on nursing care in the home healthcare settings based on their experience within the context of public health nursing courses. A qualitative research design. Interviews were conducted with 13 senior nursing students by a using semi-structured interview guide between 22 December 2017 and 15 January 2018. Thematic analysis was used for analyzing the qualitative data. Thematic analysis deduced three themes; (i) security, (ii) personal traits, and (iii) working environment. Our findings addressing problems in-home healthcare settings should be considered to improve the quality of nursing care in-home healthcare settings. This qualitative study revealed how senior nursing students perceived the role of home healthcare nurses based on their theoretical knowledge and experience acquired during the practical training that allowed them to have a chance to observe nurses in their natural working environment. There is very little information about home healthcare nursing services with a knowledgeable and unbiased perspective. Therefore, the findings of this study establish an unbiased basis of information home healthcare nursing services provided by senior nursing students who will soon begin working as a nurse. Background and Purpose: The need for high-quality long-term healthcare services is increasing across the globe as the population ages. Strategies for improving transitional care from hospital to home are needed. This study aimed to explore the perspectives of patients aged 65 years and over and their family caregivers transitioning from hospital to home in an urban area of Turkey. Methods: Thematic analysis of in-depth semi-structured interviews was conducted with older patients (n = 14), with at least one chronic disease and admitted to the hospital for a minimum of 3 days, and family caregivers (n = 11) who voluntarily participated. Results: Main themes were "confused feelings of safety and stress"; "worried about being left alone"; and "disrupted healthcare journey." The proactive rehabilitation model was used to elaborate on the study findings and interpret the perspectives and experiences of older patients and their family caregivers, which can be used for improving the quality of care after discharge from hospital. Implications for Practice: A high-quality transitional care program requires taking care of the feeling of safety in older patients and their family caregivers by the multidisciplinary team and their enhanced involvement in care initiatives after hospital discharge. Purpose: To determine the relationship between the anxiety states and knowledge levels of female midwifery students about COVID‐19 during the outbreak. Design and Methods: This cross‐sectional study carried out with online participation of 972 female midwifery students. Findings: The anxiety levels of the female midwifery students were high among those visiting the hospital during the pandemic and having parents or relatives who had chronic diseases. Female midwifery students had a high level of knowledge regarding COVID‐19. Practice Implications: Female midwives of the future will take part in primary health care services in the protection and promotion of health as an important occupational group in the public health system. Background: Cervical cancer is the most important type of gynecologic cancer that can be prevented by early detection by screening test. Screening and early diagnosis with pap smear test are secondary prevention measures. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the women's beliefs about having Pap smear test. Study Design: This study was conducted as a descriptive study with 620 women between April and June 2016, who applied to gynecology out patient clinics of a state hospital and agreed to participate in the study. Method: The data were collected using the "Data Collection Form" and the "Health Belief Model Scale". The evaluation of the data was analyzed using descriptive statistics (such as mean, number, percentage) and chisquare test, kruskal wallis test in the SPSS for Windows 16.0 statistical package program. The ethics committee of Usak University approved the ethics committee and obtained the institutional permission. Results: The average age of the women participating in the study is 37,66 (SS: 9,43 Min: 19,00, Max: 59,00). 90.32% of the participants were married, 45.32% were primary school graduates and 58.23% were housewives. 49.3% (n = 306) of women participating in the study had had a pap smear test at leastonce. A statistically significant difference was found between age, menopause, pregnancy, abortion, childbirth, number of births and number of childrenandstatus of getting information about cancer by pap smear test (p <0.05). When women's scores were analyzed, the highest score was found to be related to health motivation, pap smear utility / health motivation and cervical cancer severity perception subscales. A statistically significant relation ship was found between participants' education status and pap smear utility/ health motivation perceptions, and it was found that pap smear benefit / health motivation perceptions of non-illiterate women were lower than other groups (X2 = 41,843; SD = 4; p = 000). A statistically significant relation ship was found between the income status of the participants and the pap smear utility / health motivation perceptions. As the income status increased, the pap smear utility / health motivation perceptions were higher (X2 = 28,599; SD = 2; p = .000). Conclusion: As a result of this study, it was found that pap smear test rate of women is still below the desired level. It was identified that there was a significant relationship between the status of pap smear test and many variables, and it was understood that the low pap smear benefit / health motivation perception, which significantly affected the pap smear test status, was particularly low among the education level and the women in the income group. Aim: This study focuses on the barriers faced by family health workers in performing their professions and aims to reveal the perceived obstacles to their professional development during the provision of preventive health care for an individual from the perspective of family health workers. Methods: In this study in which a qualitative design was used, the data were collected by in-depth interviews with 24 FHWs. The study data collected between January and April 2018 were separately coded and compared by following the thematic analysis process, and the themes were determined with the obtained codes. Results: The results of the study indicate that many factors are perceived as obstacles to the professional development of FHWs. Three themes are defined as the result of the analysis; (a) social perception regarding FHWs, (b) field of application, (c) legislation and training infrastructure. Conclusions: Strategies determined to cope with the obstacles of family health workers are expected to increase contribution to primary health care. In this direction, it is suggested that decision makers should conduct studies related to field of application and legislative infrastructure, present problems and find solutions. The clear role of FHWs is necessary to create field of application where they can work effectively as primary health care providers. AIM: Determining the practise and knowledge of medicine usage in older people is the aim of this descriptive study. METHOD: The study sample was comprised of 300 people chosen from 960 old people over 65 years of age living in Eryaman Health Centre No. 3 neighbourhood by random sampling. Data which had been gathered with questionnaire survey were analyzed with the SPSS 11.5 and frequency, percent and chisquare tests. RESULTS: In this study, 44.1% of persons have more than one chronic disease and 84.3% of them use more than one medicine. The most common seen disease in the persons who participated in this research is hypertension and the most common used medicine group is cardiovascular system medicine. According to the older persons expressions, 17.0% of the persons abandoned using doctor's prescription and 16.7% of them have been using overthe- counter medicine. As a result of the this study, adverse medicine reactions occurred in the 19.3% of persons. Replies to the questions concerning medicine knowledge shows that 51.3% of the persons know the right answers. 88.7% of the survey group stated that physicians informed them about the usage of the medicines and 2.2% of them were informed by nurses. CONCLUSION: Taking into consideration, these findings suggest that the nurses should be aware of the education level, habits of the older persons who use medicines, and they should observe them closely and inform and support them with the appropriate usage of the medicines. Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the importance that patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus from the Netherlands and Turkey attach to certain drug effects of oral anti-diabetic drugs. Methods: Data were collected through a cross-sectional survey containing demographic questions and a discrete choice experiment assessing preferences for oral anti-diabetic drugs. Adults from the Netherlands and Turkey were included if they had type 2 diabetes mellitus and had received a prescription of an oral anti-diabetic drug in the last 4 months. The oral anti-diabetic drugs in the discrete choice experiment were described in terms of six attributes: effects on HbA1c, cardiovascular diseases, weight change, gastrointestinal adverse drug events hypoglycemic events, and bladder cancer. Multinomial logit models with country as an interaction factor were fitted. Results: In total, 381 patients were included, 199 from the Netherlands and 182 from Turkey. Patients' preferences toward drug effects varied between the countries. Turkish patients attached the highest importance to reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases (relative weight: 0.51, 95% CI 0.45–0.55), followed by reducing hypoglycemic events (relative weight: 0.16, 95% CI 0.11–0.22), and reducing gastrointestinal adverse drug events (relative weight: 0.11, 95% CI 0.07–0.18). Patients from the Netherlands attached the highest importance to gastrointestinal ADEs (relative weight: 0.22, 95% CI 0.14–0.39), followed by reducing hypoglycemic events (relative weight: 0.22, 95% CI 0.16–0.25), and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases (relative weight: 0.20, 95% CI 0.13–0.23). Background: Sleep problems are much more prevalent in nursing home residents than in their community‐dwelling counterparts. Cognitive behavioural therapy is likely to improve sleep quality in older adults. However, these interventions have a narrow scope to generalise to nursing home practice, and there are minimal data on the effectiveness of the integration of cognitive behavioural therapy and motivational interviewing in nursing home settings. Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of a nurse‐led sleep programme on the sleep quality and depressive symptomatology in cognitively intact nursing home residents. Methods: A non‐randomised controlled study design was applied to 52 older adults living in three different nursing homes in the same locality. Then, we categorised our study cohort into the following two groups: intervention group in which the older adults received the nurse‐led sleep programme and control group in which the older adults received regular nursing home services. One nursing home was assigned to the intervention, and two were assigned to control. The intervention group participated in four weekly 1‐hr sessions performed by the first author. Results: Follow‐up assessments conducted at 8 and 12 weeks after the intervention ended revealed that participants in the intervention group experienced a significant improvement in some objective sleep parameters, including awakenings, total wake time, wake after sleep onset and sleep efficiency, as well as a significant decrease in depressive symptomatology. Conclusion: To summarise, the results of this study showed that the nurse‐led sleep programme improved the sleep quality and reduced depressive symptomatology in cognitively intact nursing home residents. In this context, we can assert that interventions for sleep problems should be individualised by addressing sleep experience and sleep management strategies of older adults living in nursing homes and should be integrated with motivational interviewing techniques. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in psychotherapy has been increased in recent years. While these technologies in psychotherapy are growing, the circumstances of accepting artificial tools during psychotherapy need to be explored to improve effective AI tools during the sensitive therapeutic environment. In this study, the factors around the preferences for AI-based psychotherapy were investigated. This cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 872 individuals who are highly educated, 18 aged and above. Attitude towards AI-based Psychotherapy, Attitude towards Seeking Professional Psychological Help Scale- Short Form, and Stigma Scale for Receiving Psychological Help Scale were used to examine the factors of participants' preferences for AI-based psychotherapy. While 55% of the sample preferred AI-based psychotherapy, the majority of participants trusted more human psychotherapists than AI-based systems when asked participants' trust about the security of personal data. However, three important benefits of AI-based psychotherapy were identified as being able to comfortably talk about the embarrassing experiences, having accessibility at any time, and accessing remote communication. Importantly, factors of preferences for AI-based psychotherapy were related to the idea of AI-based psychotherapy systems can improve themselves based on the results from previous therapeutic experiences. Gender and the types of profession related to psychology and technical/engineering were also associated with choosing AI-based psychotherapy. The results suggest that both raising awareness of the benefits and effectiveness of psychotherapy as well as the trust to the artificial intelligence tools can improve the rate of the preferences for AI-based psychotherapy. • We explored the factors of choosing AI-based psychotherapy. • The less stigma and remote access were found as key in preferring AI-based therapy. • Trust of the security of data in AI-based therapy were less than human therapists. • The beliefs about limited ability to empathize in AI-based psychotherapy was found. Objective: This study examines the factors associated with the willingness to get the coronavirus vaccine among individuals aged 18 and above., Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Turkey. The participants aged 18 and older were recruited between December, 2020 and January, 2021 through conventional social media sites. Snowball sampling was used. An anonymous questionnaire consisted of demographics, vaccination experiences, and perceived risk of coronavirus disease., Results: 1202 women and 651 men were included in the data analysis. Findings showed that demographics, vaccination experience, and perceived risk of getting COVID-19 were explained. 37% of the variance in people's willingness to get the COVID-19 vaccination was according to hierarchical logistic regression. Furthermore, increasing age, being male, acquiring positive information about COVID-19 vaccines, having a lower level of vaccine hesitancy, the high level of worry about COVID-19, and low level of perceptions of the possibility of becoming infected by the COVID-19 were the main predictors of COVID-19 vaccine willingness., Conclusions: Factors affecting adults' willingness to be inoculated with COVID-19 vaccines were related to demographics, vaccination experiences, and perceived risk of getting COVID-19. We recommend that public health authorities and practitioners should consider these multiple factors regarding vaccine confidence to achieve herd immunity.
