The experiment was conducted in the crop rotation of winter wheat, maize, spring barley, and winter rapeseed in the Albic Retisol from 2012 to 2019. During the experiment, crop by-products were left in the field annually as a common background for each treatment. Before the beginning of the experiment in 2011, dolomite lime was applied at three different doses based on the hydrolytic acidity (Hh) of the soil. Recommended fertiliser doses were applied to the crops with the average annual application of N112P36K87 per unit area. The experiment included the following treatments: 1) without fertilisers, when only crop by-products were incorporated into the soil (control), 2) N112P36K87, 3) NPK + CaMg(CO3)2 (0.5 Hh), 4) NPK + CaMg(CO3)2 (1.0 Hh), and 5) NPK + CaMg(CO3)2 (1.5 Hh). Analysis of crop yield and the phosphorus (P) uptake by plant parts allowed to determine the level of P return with crop by-products using the Partial Nutrient Balance Intensity (PNBI) index. In the experiment, a negative PNBI was observed, when only crop by-products were incorporated into the soil (control treatment) or removed from the field, and all other treatments showed positive indices. The PNBI index increased by 1.7-2.8 times compared to the treatment, when by-products were removed. This result suggests that returning of crop by-products to the soil can be an alternative source of phosphorus. The results of the experiment determined the accumulation of total phosphorus (Ptot) and changes in the distribution of phosphorus due to the addition of NPK and CaMg(CO3)2 together with the by-products returned to the soil. Significant increases in organic (Porg), inorganic (Pinorg), and available (Pavail) P content indicate the accumulation of both phosphorus reserves and its available forms in acid soil. The use of mineral fertilisers and dolomite lime in combination with crop by-products is an effective approach to improve crop productivity and phosphate level in the soil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sorghum is a potential crop as feed forage. The objective of the research was to obtain optimum dose of liming to improve the growth and productivity of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) biomass as feed forage. A completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 4 replications were applied for the research. The treatments were doses of dolomite lime addition i.e., 1) SD0 (dolomite lime addition at a dose of 0 ton/ha) as a control, 2) SD1 (dolomite lime addition at a dose of 1 ton/ha), 3) SD2 (dolomite lime addition at a dose of 2 ton/ha), and 4) SD3 (dolomite lime addition at a dose of 3 ton/ha). The result shows that supplementation of dolomite lime at doses of 2‒3 tons ha-1 can increase soil pH after a week of incubation. The dolomite lime addition at a dose of 3 tons ha-1 significantly increases (P<0.05) the plant height (2 weeks after planting) and the number of leaves from a week after planting until the end of the research (10 weeks after planting). In addition, this dose of dolomite addition (3 tons/ha) can increase fresh biomass productivity as well as dry biomass compared to control (SD0). In conclusion, supplementation of dolomite lime at a dose of 3 tons ha-1 was effective to increase the pH value of soil, plant height, leaves number, as well as fresh and dry biomass of sorghum plant. Red chili is one of the plants that are widely cultivated in Indonesia because of its high economic value. However, chili production in Indonesia has not been able to meet the needs. The low productivity of chili is caused by the growth of spoilage microorganisms along with the physiological changes of the product during post-harvest. This study aims to determine the effect of concentration and duration of beeswax immersion on the shelf life of chili (Capsicum annum L.) with the addition of galangal for anthracnose resistance. This research was conducted at the Horticulture Laboratory, Department of Agrotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Syiah Kuala University Darussalam Banda Aceh from January to February 2022. This study used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first factor is the concentration of beeswax with the addition of 10% galangal extract at each concentration and the second factor is the length of immersion of beeswax, with 3 replications. The results showed that giving beeswax at a concentration of 4% and 6% with the addition of galangal extract could maintain weight loss, moisture content, vitamin C, intensity of disease attack and had the highest value on organoleptic tests on scent. The productivity of rice plants in swamps can be increased by adding dolomite lime. The addition of dolomite lime can reduce soil acidity. This study aims to determine the increase in productivity of rice plants in swamps with the addition of dolomite lime. The research was conducted from September to December 2021 at the Sekap Bumi Farmer's Group, Padang Tambak Village, Pino District - South Bengkulu. This study uses a package of rice cultivation in swampland Treatment 1 land added 500 kg of dolomite lime and treatment 2 did not add dolomite lime. Data analysis was done descriptively. The data collected is the productivity of rice yields in each treatment. The results showed that the application of dolomite lime can increase rice productivity in swamps by about 10%. Many forest soils are acidic and have very low plant-available pools of magnesium. Past and present sylvicultural, nutritional and/or climatic pressures endured by forest ecosystems can result in net losses of nutrients and ecosystem function losses. Liming with a carbonate product is an alternative to counteract these degradations but the effects of liming on the biogeochemical cycling of nutrients over time and the dynamics of Mg released from liming products are still unclear. We studied the Mg isotopes composition in four paired-treatment experimental beech forest ecosystems in northern France. At the sites where dolomitic lime was applied, the variation in exchangeable and foliar δ26Mg demonstrated the direct contribution of dolomite-derived Mg to the replenishment of topsoil exchangeable pools and to tree nutrition improvement: dolomite-derived Mg was incorporated into the biological cycling which allows its retention on the mid to long term in the soil–plant system. At the sites limed with calcium carbonate, the changes in exchangeable and foliar Mg contents and δ26Mg observed on the long term suggest that the applied product contained a small amount of Mg and/or that Mg cycling changed after liming, to cope in particular with the low Mg availability. Lastly, our results highlight the high δ26Mg of the organic layer (humus): fractionation processes occurring within this layer (mineralization/ageing of organic matter, preferential retention of 26 Mg) could explain these singular signatures that could greatly influence the topsoil Mg exchangeable pools. Soil bacterivorous nematodes are key plant mutualists that increase nutrient availability for plants either by enhancing the mineralization of organic compounds (the “ mineralization pathway ”) or by increasing plant lateral root branching following shifts in internal plant metabolism, and subsequently leading to a higher volume of soil prospected by the roots (the “ hormonal pathway ”). The effects of these organisms on the nutrition of plants growing in strongly nutrient-deficient ferrallitic soils, especially in soils with limited available inorganic phosphorus (P), are poorly known, as are the pathways involved. In our study, using Oryza sativa (Poaceae) and Acrobeloides sp. (Cephalobidae), we tested the “ mineralization ” and “ hormonal ” hypotheses in an acidic P-depleted Ferralsol from the Madagascar highlands. We assessed the effect of nematode inoculation on (i) inorganic P flow from soil to plant using the 32 P labelling technique and (ii) plant root architecture using a rhizobox device. We showed that the ability of Acrobeloides sp. to enhance P uptake in plants is strongly limited in Ferralsols. However, when the soil pH was corrected with dolomite, Acrobeloides sp. increased plant P uptake probably through the “ mineralization ” pathway (higher microbial turnover). Indeed, the L-value increased by 49% in the presence of nematodes and dolomite, suggesting the production of unlabelled plant-available P, probably through a higher net P mineralization when the nematodes were inoculated. Using the rhizobox technique, we also observed increased root length in the presence of nematodes but the specific root length, the tip number and the root branching density did not increase in the presence of nematodes, suggesting that nematodes did not increase plant P uptake and growth in this soil as proposed by the “ hormonal ” hypothesis. From an ecological intensification perspective, to promote agro-ecological development in tropical regions, our results suggest that amending ferrallitic soils with P-rich organic matter and correcting soil pH with an appropriate amount of dolomite may constitute suitable agronomic actionable triggers to drive the mutualistic activity of bacterivorous nematodes. Acid sulphate soils (ASS) are characterized to be dynamic systems with a continuous chemical degradation processes due to current severe acidification. One of their limitations is related to the inhibition of the absorption of exchangeable bases, generated mainly by excess aluminum rates, which affect their productivity 20and limit the availability of nutrients to plants.This study evaluated the effect of some techniques used in soil remediation on exchangeable bases of ASS, at greenhouse conditions, in order to identify methodologies for the management of these soils in Paipa (Boyacá). An experimental design with 6 treatments and 5 replications was performed, where the incorporation of efficient microorganisms, sugarcane bagasse, green manure and dolomite lime was evaluated as well as the seeding of forage Brassica rapa L.; in which the exchangeable bases were measured before and after planting Brassica oleracea var. Botrytis as indicator crop. For data analysis, was performed ANOVA and was applied Tukey comparison of means with a reliability of 95%. The results indicated that the seeding of B. rapa as forage and incorporating of the same as green manure, with the complementary use of dolomite lime, generated a greater increase in Ca (18.21 cmolc•kg-1 & 16.61 cmolc•kg-1) and Mg (6 cmolc•kg-1 & 5.15 cmolc•kg-1). In terms of K, the highest value was obtained with the addition of green manure (1.31 cmolc•kg-1) respect to the methodologies evaluated.

Net nitrification in intact soil cores and the community of ammonia-oxidising bacteria were studied in acid Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst) and sessile oak (Quercus petraea (Matt. Lieb.)) soils (Haute Ardenne, east Belgium) 18 months after treatment with 5 t ha−1 dolomite lime. Liming caused a significant increase in nitrification in the upper soil layers (0.15 m) of both stands. DGGE (denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis) profiling after β-subclass ammonia oxidiser-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR), combined with hybridisation and sequencing of excised DGGE bands revealed a dominance of Nitrosomonas europaea-like sequences, independent of soil horizon, tree species and lime treatment. A minority Nitrosospira-like population was detected, which showed affinity to nitrosospiras previously detected in acid soil. These results contrast with several reports suggesting a dominance of Nitrosospira-like organisms among ammonia oxidiser communities in acid soils. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
