The Chukar (Alectoris chukar cypriotes) is the most common game bird in Cyprus. Since 1990 the Cypriot Government has established a restocking program with captive-reared birds. However, this program has not been guaranteed by checking the genetic nature of wild and farmed samples, either in the areas controlled by the Cypriot Government or in northern Cyprus. The sequencing of both Cytochrome-b and Control Region of the mitochondrial DNA was carried out for 61 Cypriot representatives and 14 specimens of the same subspecies from Crete and Israel. Only the A. chukar maternal lineage was found. A partitioning of Cypriot specimens among different clades was not reliably supported, whereas robust bootstrap values weighted for an evolutionary divergence between Cypriot and Cretan Chukars. An overall genetic homogeny of the Cypriot populations was disclosed, whatever their status (captive vs. wild stocks) and origin (Government controlled vs. occupied areas) would be, a higher nucleotide diversity of the wild vs. captive representatives notwithstanding.

Abstract Objective: To analyse the association between determinants of maternal deaths and obstetric haemorrhage in Padang, Indonesia. Methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted in Padang, Indonesia from 2015 to 2019. Maternal deaths that occurred due to obstetric hemorrhage in Padang Health Department was compared to three mothers who survived from obstetric hemorrhage (controls) in Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital, Padang, Indonesia. Results: There were 20 deaths caused by obstetric hemorrhage during 2015 to 2019. Death records could only be found in 16 cases. The most common etiology of obstetric hemorrhage was uterine atony (62.5%). Determinants associated with maternal deaths due to obstetric hemorrhage were interval between pregnancies (p=0.045; OR:10.846), history of previous labour (p=0.003; OR:8.556), and antenatal care (p=0.003; OR:21.364). Age, parity, birth attendant, and mother’s educational level were not significantly associated with maternal deaths due to obstetric hemorrhage. Conclusion: Uterine atony was the most frequent etiology of maternal deaths due to obstetric hemorrhage. There was a significant association between pregnancy intervals, history of previous labour, and antenatal care with maternal deaths due to obstetric hemorrhage. Metode: Sebuah studi retrospektif case-control dilakukan di Kota Padang dari tahun 2015–2019. Setiap kasus kematian ibu akibat perdarahan obstetri dari tahun 2015–2019 yang dilaporkan oleh Dinas Kesehatan Kota Padang dibandingkan dengan tiga kasus perdarahan obstetri yang tidak berakibat kematian di RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. Analisis data menggunakan uji Chi-square. Hasil: Ada 20 kasus kematian akibat perdarahan obstetri selama tahun 2015–2019. Catatan kematian hanya dapat diperoleh pada 16 kasus. Etiologi terbanyak kematian akibat perdarahan obstetri ialah atonia uteri. Determinan yang berhubungan dengan kematian akibat perdarahan obstetri ialah jarak kehamilan (p=0.045; OR:10.846), riwayat persalinan sebelumnya (p=0.003; OR:8.556), dan antenatal care (p=0.003; OR:21.364). Tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara usia, paritas, penolong persalinan, dan tingkat pendidikan ibu dengan kematian maternal akibat perdarahan obstetri. Kesimpulan: Atonia uteri merupakan etiologi tertinggi kematian maternal akibat perdarahan obstetri. Ada hubungan yang signifikan antara jarak kehamilan, riwayat persalinan sebelumnya, dan antenatal care dengan kematian maternal akibat perdarahan obstetri. ABSTRACT Koi fish is one of the species included in the intensification program of ornamental fish production. Production of koi has only reached 82.04% of total national production target thus making it potential for development. The objective of the study was to assess additional financial benefit of production increment through stocking pattern modification. Present research was performed using case study method on Pokdakan PBC Fish Farm (PPFF), koi fish farmers in Sukabumi. Financial analysis consisted of business analysis, investment criteria, and sensitivity. Stocking pattern management could increase ornamental fish production and its benefit margin up to 1.5 times higher. That investment criteria has shown NPV at value of IDR3,824 million, net BCR 4.96, IRR 86.0%, and PP 1.7 years. Koi fish farming was sensitive to a decline in survival rate and insensitive to the rise of formulated feed price. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi kasus pada kelompok pembudidaya ikan hias koi PPFF di Sukabumi. Analisis finansial yang digunakan meliputi analisis usaha, kriteria investasi dan sensitivitas. Pengaturan pola tebar dapat meningkatkan jumlah produksi ikan hias dan marjin keuntungan hingga 1,5 kali. Analisis kriteria investasi menghasilkan nilai NPV sebesar Rp3.824 juta, net B/C 4,94, IRR 86,0% dan PP 1,7 tahun. The automotive field in particular is rapidly shifting towards the concepts of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which could bring huge benefits in the future. However, before being able to use these tools, many assurances are required regarding their functioning and safety. To this end, several control techniques exist to evaluate the performance of this software, but a reliable and repeatable method for evaluating complex scenarios and corner cases is still lacking. This work demonstrated the use of green material catalysts, produced from Sengon sawdust waste, to obtain nanocellulose biopolymers. The green material catalysts were utilized as catalysts support of TiO2-ZrO2 binary oxide in the form of nanocomposite materials with superior synergistic properties. The isolation of nanocellulose was achieved using a hydrolysis method with a yield of 63.40%. The TiO2 and ZrO2 nanoparticles have average particle sizes of around 25 and 15 nm, respectively, and the binary oxides of iO2-ZrO2 pretained an average particle size of 30 nm were used. Furthermore, the nanocellulose combined with the TiO2-ZrO2 binary oxide had formed a cellulose/ TiO2-ZrO2 nanocomposite with an average particle size of 30 nm. This indicates that the supporting nanocellulose can stabilize the nanoparticles and avoid aggregation. Moreover, the nanocomposites can be used as a catalyst for the conversion of glucose to 5-ethoxymethylfurfural (5-EMF). The catalytic activity increased with the nanoparticle effect obtained ZrO2, TiO2, TiO2-ZrO2, and cellulose and TiO2-ZrO2 nanocomposite, in 15.50%, 20.20%, 35.20%, and 45.50% yields, respectively. The best yield of 5-EMF was 45.50%, with reaction conditions of 1:1 TiO2-ZrO2 ratio, 4 h reaction time, and 160 °C reaction temperature. The use of nanocellulose biopolymer generated from Sengon sawdust waste in Indonesia provides a promising catalyst support material as an alternative green catalyst. Background: B-lines evaluated by lung ultrasound (LUS) are the sonographic sign of pulmonary congestion, a major predictor of morbidity and mortality in patients with heart failure (HF). Our aim was to assess the prognostic value of B-lines at discharge to predict rehospitalization at 6 months in patients with acute HF (AHF). Methods: A prospective cohort of 100 patients admitted to a Cardiology Department for dyspnea and/or clinical suspicion of AHF were enrolled (mean age 70 ± 11 years). B-lines were evaluated at admission and before discharge. Subjects were followed-up for 6-months after discharge. Results: Mean B-lines at admission was 48 ± 48 with a statistically significant reduction before discharge (20 ± 23, p < .0001). During follow-up, 14 patients were rehospitalized for decompensated HF. The 6-month event-free survival was highest in patients with less B-lines (≤ 15) and lowest in patients with more B-lines (> 15) (log rank X2 20.5, p < .0001). On multivariable analysis, B-lines > 15 before discharge (hazard ratio [HR] 11.74; 95 % confidence interval [CI] 1.30-106.16) was an independent predictor of events at 6 months. Conclusions: Persistent pulmonary congestion before discharge evaluated by ultrasound strongly predicts rehospitalization for HF at 6-months. Absence or a mild degree of B-lines identify a subgroup at extremely low risk to be readmitted for HF decompensation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A five-year-old dog was referred with a five-month history of lethargy, decreased appetite, cough and intermittent forelimb lameness. Radiographs revealed an intra-thoracic lesion and a marked periosteal bone apposition of the second digit on the left forelimb. As it was palisading and circumferential, the latter appeared typical of hypertrophic osteopathy (HO). A grass awn in a sub-lobar ramification of the right caudal bronchus was identified and removed by bronchoscopy. At three months follow-up, the digit appeared clinically normal. On radiographs the periosteal bone reaction had decreased, indicative of resolving hypertrophic osteopathy. Thoracic radiographs showed no abnormalities five months after foreign body removal and the bone lesion on the digit had disappeared. Successful treatment of the pulmonary foreign body abscess led to spontaneous regression of HO and eventually to complete resolution of clinical signs. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first reported case of HO secondary to a bronchial-pulmonary grass an abscess. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
