The Disaster Preparedness Village (Kampung Siaga Bencana or KSB) in Special Region of Yogyakarta Province (DIY) is a community that aims to increase community preparedness and resilience to disasters through collaboration between the local government, non-government organisations and the community. This research examines the sustainability factors of KSB, namely the role of local leadership and government collaboration in disaster risk reduction (DRR) efforts. The method used in this research is a qualitative method and Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat (SWOT) analysis, then using a diamond model to visualise the role of local leadership and the role of government. The results of this research show the importance of local leadership role in the sustainability of KSB. Factors contributing to the success of DIY KSB include independence, fulfillment of social granary logistics and effective two-way communication between KSB management and the village government (Kalurahan). The study supports that effective local leadership empowers the community, influences resource utilisation and facilitates collaborative efforts with the village government and volunteer organisations to address disaster management priorities. In addition, the most significant shortcomings in community leadership based on trust cultural value will negatively impact their sustainability and activeness if the local actors as mobilisers are inactive, and there is no regeneration of active new leaders. The Umbulharjo KSB case study exemplifies effective local leadership, mainly through Jagabaya, the chairman of KSB management. Strong local leadership is a fundamental element in developing a cohesive community actively involved in DRR efforts. Contribution: The study reveals that local leadership significantly contributes to the development and sustained activity of KSB. The research concludes by emphasising the multifaceted nature of local leadership, considering various perspectives and the community’s values and goals. The diamond model illustrates the intersection between societal opportunities and government support, demonstrating the realisation of goals through effective local leadership.

Indonesia situated within the volatile Ring of Fire, faces recurring and devastating earthquakes that pose significant economic threats. The Government of Indonesia (GoI) has initiated a disaster risk financing strategy to address these challenges. However, the implementation of disaster insurance within this strategy remains limited. This study examined the GoI’s disaster risk financing methods, assessed the effectiveness of existing disaster insurance practices, and proposed strategies for improving disaster risk reduction (DRR). Literature review was used to analyse disaster fund and insurance implementation. A building vulnerability simulation, based on Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) P-154 rapid visual screening, determined the appropriate financing strategy. State buildings were assessed using nine vulnerability factors and categorised by seismicity. The research found that disaster financing mostly relied on national funds to cover all disaster damages. Existing disaster insurance lacked clarity in defining insurable buildings, resulting in broad inclusion. Vulnerability assessments showed that each building type exhibited different potential earthquake damage levels. Consequently, insurance coverage is recommended for high-damage categories but discouraged for low to moderately vulnerable buildings. Contribution: This study offered insights into Indonesia’s current disaster risk financing and insurance landscape, and provides a strategic framework for optimising these mechanisms to better protect state buildings from earthquake-related risks.

Pandemi Covid-19 memberikan dampak pada sektor perekonomian sehingga menyebabkan menurunnya aktivitas perekonomian di Desa Sriharjo khususnya bagi UMKM. Dampak yang dirasakan berupa menurunnya pendapatan akibat sepinya pembeli. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membahas dan menganalisis perilaku UMKM dalam menghadapi pandemi Covid-19 serta mengkaji strategi perubahan perilaku UMKM. Penelitian ini didasarkan pada focus group Discussion (FGD), wawancara, dan observasi terhadap UMKM di Desa Sriharjo Kabupaten Bantul Yogyakarta. Secara khusus menganalisis perilaku UMKM berupa pengetahuan, sikap dan tindakan pada masa pandemi Covid-19. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan, sikap, dan tindakan berpengaruh terhadap perilaku UMKM di Sriharjo. Menyikapi kondisi penuh tantangan di masa pandemi ini, para pelaku UMKM menentang keras adanya protokol kesehatan. Perilaku pelaku tercermin dalam penerapan protokol kesehatan dan adaptasi kebiasaan baru di tempat usaha. Strategi untuk mengatasi dampak ekonomi di Desa Sriharjo antara lain dengan membuat platform online, melalui grup WhatsApp dan website bernama pasardesa.id, untuk kegiatan jual beli. Hal ini difasilitasi berupa bantuan langsung dana desa, bantuan tunai Kementerian Sosial, dan BLT UMKM. Strategi yang dilakukan dalam mengatasi dampak pandemi Covid-19 adalah penyuluhan kepada pelaku UMKM oleh Puskesmas Imogiri II, edukasi dan sosialisasi vaksinasi Covid-19, pemberian bantuan masker, hand sanitizer, tempat cuci tangan portable dan sabun tangan. oleh Dinas Perindustrian dan Perdagangan DIY, serta pengawasan tempat oleh petugas gabungan Pemerintah Desa Sriharjo.

Masyarakat Desa Tegaltirto sebagian besar bermata pencaharian di sektor informal yang menjadi komponen paling rentan terhadap dampak Pandemi Covid-19. Ketahanan masyarakat diperlukan dalam menghadapi krisis dan ancaman Pandemi Covid-19. Penelitian ini bertujuan: (1) menganalisis tingkat ketahanan masyarakat menurut aset penghidupannya; dan (2) mengetahui faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi ketahanan masyarakat Desa Tegaltirto. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode survei. Populasi penelitian berdasarkan dusun yang dianggap mewakili Desa Tegaltirto menurut keragaman pekerjaan masyarakat yaitu Dusun Kadisono, Sompilan, dan Semoya. Teknik sampling menggunakan stratified random sampling jenis proporsional sampel sebanding jumlah populasi. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan statistik deskritif untuk analisis tingkat ketahanan, dan analisis faktor untuk identifikasi faktor yang memengaruhi ketahanan masyarakat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) Ketahanan masyarakat Desa Tegaltirto menurut kepemilikan aset menunjukkan tingkat ketahanan sedang, kategori tingkat ketahanan tinggi terdiri dari 9 rumah tangga, ketahanan sedang terdiri dari 75 rumah tangga, dan ketahanan rendah terdiri dari 16 rumah tangga. (2) Terbentuk 7 faktor yang mempengaruhi ketahanan masyarakat yaitu; faktor pendidikan dan perekonomian, pengetahuan dan akses informasi Covid-19, alam, ketersediaan sarana dan prasarana, pencegahan risiko Covid-19, bantuan dari pihak luar, dan kesehatan dan sosial masyarakat.

Tsunamis are natural hazards that have the potential to cause significant damage and losses to the South Coast of Java. As the initial foundation for local spatial planning and risk reduction, preparing a tsunami susceptibility mapping is imperative to minimize the disaster's impact. This study aims to identify the spatial distribution of tsunami susceptibility in Watukarung Village, Pacitan Regency, using the Spatial Multi-Criteria Evaluation (SMCE) method. The variables involved in the modeling include landform, elevation, slope, distance from the shoreline, and distance from the river. The value and weight of each factor were determined using the pairwise technique in the SMCE framework. The research results indicated that the tsunami susceptibility in Watukarung comprises four classes: safe (598.40 ha), low (9.68 ha), moderate (23.92 ha), and high (25.13 ha). The areas most prone to tsunamis are generally identified in the southern part of Watukarung, which is generally associated with beach or alluvial plain landforms, very close to shore, and low land elevation. Ironically, human settlements and coastal tourism are overgrowing in the tsunami-prone zone, highlighting that risk reduction measures must be implemented optimally to anticipate tsunami hazards. As a recommendation, further research must be carried out to comprehensively represent the tsunami risk in the Watukarung coastal region. Dalam berbagai studi sering menunjukkan bahwa dalam situasi krisis berbagai bentuk kemampuan manusia dalam beradaptasi atau strategi bertahan hidup untuk keluar dari kesulitan. Hal ini terbukti ketika pandemi Covid-19 telah menyerang masyarakat seluruh dunia, termasuk Indonesia. Studi ini akan membahas dan menganalisis bagaimana strategi dan bentuk adaptasi masyarakat selama pandemi Covid-19, secara khusus di Desa Tegaltirto,Kecamatan Berbah, Kabupaten Sleman. Desa Tegaltirto menarik untuk diteliti karena desa ini menjadi akses utama dan jalur perdagangan antar kecamatan dan kabupaten. Sebagian besar masyarakatnya bekerja pada sektor informal yang rentan terhadap perubahan dan krisis. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode survei dengan sampel populasi diambil di Dusun Kadisono, Sompilan dan Semoya dengan teknik sampling menggunakan stratified random sampling, jumlah sampel proporsional dengan jumlah populasi.Teknik analisis data menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan seluruh rumah tangga di Desa Tegaltirto menerapkan strategi bertahan hidup, bentuk strategi paling banyak dilakukan yaitu melakukan kontrol terhadap pemasukan dan pengeluaran. Pada strategi konsolidasi mayoritas rumah tangga menerapkan strategi menyesuaikan pengeluaran antar waktu dengan cara mengambil tabungan, mencari pinjaman, menggadai barang dan/atau menjual aset yang dimiliki. Sedangkan rumah tangga yang lainnya menerapkan strategi akumulasi dengan meningkatkan pemasukan melalui peningkatan produksi usaha yang dimilikinya

Within the development of tourism in the era of new normality, especially for cultural tourism activities which do not only place tourists merely as spectators or connoisseurs, creative tourism is the main destination for alternative tourism, which is expected to maximize the potential for creative tourism for cultural advancement. The main objective of this study is to determine the position based on creative tourism to actualize the cultural advancement in the Yogyakarta Special Region and the Borobudur Temple Area. This study uses a qualitative research method with a case study approach with locations in the Yogyakarta Special Region and the Borobudur Temple area, Magelang Regency. Data collection techniques are carried out by observation and literature study, with a qualitative data analysis model based on theories of tourism development. The results of the research study show that the current stage of the development of creative tourism in the era of new normality in the Province of Yogyakarta Special Region and the Borobudur Temple Area, Magelang Regency is in between the consolidation of involvement between the industrial world and the stakeholders and the development of innovative products for cultural advancement.

This study examines the social capital in case of people preparedness towards landslide. This research was conducted at Pagerharjo Village, Kulonprogo District where the location is categorized as the landslide prone area. The aim of this study is to find out the social capital for people preparedness in executing the landslide mitigation at Pagerharjo Village, Menoreh Mountains, Kulonprogo District. The research used qualitative descriptive method, with 9 out of 20 hamlets were selected as samples by purposive sampling. The sampling was taken in the location that has the landslide prone to the high landslide prone. People in Pagerharjo especially in the 9 hamlets have understood that their village is medium-to-highly vulnerable areas, especially in rainy season. The theory used in this study is Coleman’s social capital. The result of this research proves that the Pagerharjo people have social capital in disaster mitigation. The mitigation can be practiced as disaster socialization, mutual cooperation, structural mitigation, cultural, and leadership aspect. The community has also local belief from their ancestors which is the mixture of religion and culture in case of landslide mitigation. The willingness to transmigrate is the form of social capital dimension obtained from a sense of togetherness and trust in leaders at the levels of hamlet, village, and the local government.

The quality of soil cannot be measured directly, in which indicators need to be arbitrated of physical, chemical and biological properties, all of those affect the character of soil. The objective of this study was to identify the relationship between factors of soil quality and to review the effect of soil quality towards chili production. The exploration was done at Bugel Beach, Panjatan Sub-District, Kulonprogo, and DIY. Methods that were used in this study were Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) single factor. The factors was divided into initial agroforestry zone (shade intensity 0-30%), middle (shade intensity 31-60%) and final (shade intensity >60%) based on coconuts that was present at the location of sandy soil of Bugel Beach. Data collection was in physical, chemical, and biological form also in chili production. Data analyses were ANOVA with 5% LSD test, Structural Equitation Modelling (SEM), Factor Analysis and Stepwise Regression. The result of this study showed that initial agroforestry phase had the highest chilli production which followed by middle agroforestry and final agroforestry phase. SEM result showed that biological characteristic of soil in general directly affect the chili production and an interaction was evidence between physical and chemical characteristics of the soil. Two sets of the factors were found in factor I (BV, soil moisture, permeability, pH H2O, C-Organic, KPK, N-total, P-total, P-availability, K-total, K-dd, Ca-dd, mg-dd, Na-dd and total of microbes) and factor II (microbial and respiration total). Quality factor which effected chili production was the amount of total microbes.

The earthquake disaster in 2006 and the eruption of Merapi Volcano in 2010 have a different impact on the community activities in the province of Yogyakarta. The aims of this research are: (1) to analyze the role of gender based on differences in the characteristics of the Merapi eruption in Sleman and Bantul earthquakes; (2) to find the socio-economic variables which influence toward the role of gender in the characteristics of the Merapi eruption in Sleman and Bantul earthquakes. This research is using quantitative and qualitative methods. The research population is farming communities who live in the Padasan Sub-village of Sleman District and Serut Sub-village of Bantul District. Sampling technique is purposive. Data collection techniques are survey method, in-depth interview, and review of literature. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the percentage of gender roles. Regression analysis was used to determine the variables that affect the gender role in social and economic. The results of the descriptive analysis show that there are similarities and differences in roles between men and women in the Serut Sub-village of Bantul District and Padasan Sub-village of Sleman District despite have a different disaster. Women in the daily cycle spent more time at home during days and nights to do housework. The results of regression analysis show that there is no influence of age, education, and income to the women role in the earthquake disaster in Serut Sub-village of Bantul District and volcano eruption in Padasan Sub-village of Sleman District.

Muna Barat District is a prone area to natural disasters, such as earthquakes and tidal waves. The cyclone and tidal waves often occur and those two phenomena occur during the transition season (from the dry to the rainy season). This research aims to analyse the vulnerability and capacity related to the readiness of the community of Bajo Tribe to face the cyclone . The method being applied in this research is quantitative descriptive. Furthermore, the village that are selected purposively are those where located on the sea and hit by the cyclone. The sample chosen is the head of family of Bajo Tribe. Vulnerability and capacity are counted with Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) weighting in determining the priority scale or the most preferred alternative choice. The result of this research is Tiga, Bero, Tasipi, and Katela Village are categorized as medium vulnerability and Mandike Village has low vulnerability. Tiga, Bero, Tasipi, Mandike, and Katela Village are classified as medium capacity.

Since Indonesia reported its first case of COVID-19 in the capital, Jakarta, in early March of 2020, the pandemic has affected 102,051,000 lives. In the second week of the month, the government mandated all sectors to take necessary actions to curb the spread. The research set out to evaluate how the disaster emergency response was carried out amid the COVID-19 pandemic in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (SRY). The research employs qualitative observation of adaptive governance variables, i.e., infrastructure availability, information, conflict mechanism, regulation, and adaptation. The research analyzed primary data collected from focus group discussions with key persons at the Local Disaster Management Agency, Local Development Planning Agency, and Disaster Risk Reduction Platform responsible for the crisis and included an online survey to validate data. The research revealed that the SRY had exhibited adaptive governance to the COVID-19 pandemic, as apparent by, among others, open-access spatial and non-spatial data, extensive combined uses of both types of data, and prompt active engagement of communities in the enforcement of new rules and regulations mandated by national and provincial governments. Furthermore, during emergency responses to COVID-19, the stakeholders provided infrastructure and information, dealt with conflicts in multiple spatial units, encouraged adaptations, and formulated emergent rules and regulations. For further research, we encourage qualitative analysis to confront other types of natural disaster for the research area.
