Purpose: To analyze the effect of disinfectants on the roughness and mechanical properties of CAD/CAM polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) dentures. Materials and Methods: Two groups of denture base resins were tested--heat-polymerized and milled blocks. For each resin, 120 specimens were produced for flexural strength (FS) and flexural modulus (FM) analyses (total: 240 specimens), and 40 were produced for microhardness and surface roughness evaluations (total: 80 specimens). They were categorized into the following groups based on immersion: control (deionized water); H1 (1% sodium hypochlorite); H05 (0.5% sodium hypochlorite); and C2 (2% chlorhexidine) groups. The immersion periods were 0 (T0), 130 (T1), and 260 (T2) cycles. Statistical analyses were performed for flexural properties using threeway ANOVA. Microhardness (KHN) and surface roughness (Ra) were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA. A significance level of 5% was set. Results: CAD/CAM PMMA showed higher FS (P = .001) and FM (P < .001) than conventional PMMA. The KHN value was superior to the conventional PMMA (P < .001). The chemical solution affected the surface roughness of both resins (P = .007). The CAD/CAM PMMA block showed increased Ra values when H1 was used. Cycling separately increased the FS of conventional PMMA (T1 vs baseline; P < .05). However, the FM of CAD/CAM PMMA was higher (T1 and T2 vs baseline; P < .05). The time factor increased the microhardness of both resins (T2 vs baseline; P < .05). Conclusions: The CAD/CAM resin showed higher values compared to conventional PMMA in all tests, regardless of the chemical solution used; however, the values obtained for both resins were clinically acceptable. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations have become a powerful tool for investigating electrical double layers (EDLs), which play a crucial role in various electrochemical devices. In this Review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the techniques used in MD simulations for EDL studies, with a particular focus on methods for describing electrode polarization, and examine the principle behind these methods and their varying applicability. The applications of these approaches in supercapacitors, capacitive deionization, batteries, and electric double-layer transistors are explored, highlighting recent advancements and insights in each field. Finally, we emphasize the challenges and potential directions for future developments in MD simulations of EDLs, such as considering movable electrodes, improving electrode property representation, incorporating chemical reactions, and enhancing computational efficiency to deepen our understanding of complex electrochemical processes and contribute to the progress in the field involving EDLs. Introduction: Inonotus hispidus, commonly referred to as the Sanghuang mushroom, is a species that is consumed as a tea. To date, this is the only species of the same fungus that has been successfully cultivated. Methods: A single-factor test was conducted using Inonotus hispidus MS-5 and MS-9 as test materials. The response surface methodology was adopted to design and optimise the liquid fermentation medium for them. Results: As indicated in the results, the optimum fermentation conditions for MS-5 include 24.09g/L glucose, 7.88g/L yeast extract, 0.99g/L dandelion powder, 1.5g MgSO4, 2g KH2PO4, 0.01g vitamin B1, and 1L deionized water; the optimum fermentation conditions for MS-9 include 24.64g/L glucose, 7.77g/L yeast extract, 0.98g/L dandelion powder, 1.5g MgSO4, 2g KH2PO4, 0.01g vitamin B1, and 1L deionized water. Under such conditions, the mycelial biomass (dry weight) values were able to reach 16.02g/L and 14.91g/L for MS-5 and MS-9, respectively, which were 1.6 and 1.54 times those measured before optimization. Discussion: As revealed in the antioxidant and anticancer experiment, Inonotus hispidus exopolysaccharides has corresponding functional effects at the cellular level. Evaporation-induced salt crystallization in complex porous structures is highly important for diverse scientific and industrial fields. Individual capillary tubes are elementary components used for investigating flow and transport in the interparticle interstices of porous media. In this study, the effects of the angularity and size of capillary tubes on water evaporation and salt crystallization were investigated through monitoring the receding meniscus, salt crystal morphology and growth process in capillary tubes with different cross sections. The Stefan diffusive and two-regional models were used to simulate evaporation from capillaries of different cross-sectional shapes in the absence and in the presence of salt, respectively. The evaporation process of deionized water in round tubes could be divided into two stages: the falling rate and the receding front stages. However, the evaporation process of deionized water for the square tubes, where a liquid film was formed, could be divided into three stages: a constant rate, receding front and falling rate stages. The salt evaporation rate was lower than that of deionized water owing to the lower water activity and obstruction from the salt crystals. The evaporation rate was proportional to the tube diameter for the round capillaries and inversely proportional to the inner side length of the square capillaries for both deionized water and the salt solution. Owing to the effect of thick liquid films on both the drying rate and ion transport, crystallization occurred in the bulk meniscus within a round tube, while crystallization preferentially occurred at the tube entrance for the square tubes. The agreement between the experimental observations and model simulations revealed that the two-region model was capable of describing the evaporation-induced salt crystallization in the square tubes. In this study, a stochastic multi-objective structure for optimization of the intelligent electric parking lots (EPLs) is implemented in the distribution network for minimizing the power losses annual costs, power purchased from the main grid, unsupplied energy of subscribers, cost of vehicles to the grid as well as minimizing the network voltage deviations considering battery degradation cost (BDC) and network load uncertainty (NLUn). In this research, the unscented transformation method (UTM) is used for NLUn modeling and this method is easily applicable and has a low computational cost. An improved meta-heuristic algorithm named improved fire hawks optimization (IFHO) is utilized for decision variables finding defined as the site and size of the EPLs in the distribution network. The conventional fire hawks optimization (FHO) algorithm is inspired by the fire hawks foraging behavior and in this research, the Taylor-based neighborhood technique (TBNT) is used to reduce the dependency and the possibility of becoming trapped in local optimal. To evaluate the proposed methodology, the simulations are implemented in three scenarios (1) EPLs optimization without BDC and NLUn based-UTM, (2) EPLs optimization with BDC and without NLUn, and (3) EPLs optimization with BDC and NLUn. The results of the third scenario considering BDC and NLUn showed that the EPLs optimization integrated with a multi-objective framework by finding the EPL's optimal size and capacity in the network via the IFHO has reduced the annual losses, voltage deviations, ENS cost, and substation cost by 21.06%, 12.15%, 70.82%, and 39.10%, respectively compared to the base distribution network. Additionally, the results demonstrated that incorporating the BDC and NLUn, the annual losses, voltage oscillations, ENS cost, grid cost, and EPLs have increased in comparison with the EPLs optimization without BDC and NLUn based-UTM. In addition, the TBNT based-IFHO superiority has been confirmed in different scenarios by achieving better values of the objectives and also obtaining the convergence process with lower convergence tolerance and higher convergence accuracy. Nanofluid plays an important role in heat transfer engineering as a heat transfer medium. Therefore, we developed graphene oxide (GO)/carboxylated ferric tetroxide (Fe3O4–COOH) nanofluid with high stability using a two-step method. The preparation, characterization, physical properties and heat transfer properties of nanoparticles and nanofluids were investigated. The results show that GO/Fe3O4–COOH(GF) nanofluids present high stability at low concentrations (0.01 mass%, 0.05 mass% and 0.10 mass%) with absolute values of Zeta potential value greater than 30 mV. By adjusting the pH, it was found that GF nanofluids presented the best stability at pH = 10. A study of the physical properties of the nanofluids revealed that the viscosity of the GF nanofluids did not increase excessively with the addition of Fe3O4–COOH nanoparticles relative to the GO nanofluids. The heat transfer platform tests revealed that compared with the same concentration of GO nanofluids, the GF nanofluids have significantly higher heat dissipation efficiency. The temperature drop of 0.05 mass% GF nanofluid is higher than that of deionized water at the same pump power. We believe that well-stabilized GO nanofluids incorporating Fe3O4–COOH will provide more meaningful value in heat exchange than GO nanofluids. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The effect of biphilic surfaces on subcooled flow boiling in a horizontal rectangular duct was investigated. Biphilic surfaces were created on an aluminum alloy substrate in the form of juxtaposed Hydrophobic (HPo) and Hydrophilic (HPi) transverse strips. In this regard, two different testing samples with strip widths of 10 and 18 mm were prepared, named pattern I and pattern II, respectively. Using Deionized Water (DIW), the experiments were performed with the two mentioned biphilic patterns and a plain surface. Finally, different cases were compared, and the results were interpreted. The results showed that the biphilic surfaces improve the Heat Transfer Coefficient (HTC) and cause boiling to be initiated at a lower wall temperature. In this regard, pattern I and pattern II represent 22 and 40% improvement in HTC, and boiling initiates 31 and 33.5 °C sooner compared to the plain surface, respectively. In addition, the experiments were also conducted with an Ethylene Glycol/Water mixture (EG/W) in the same manner. The results revealed that EG/W represents smaller HTC values for all cases and shifts the boiling points to higher wall temperatures compared to DIW. Magnesium phosphate cements (MPCs), also known as chemically bonded ceramics, represent a class of inorganic cements that have garnered considerable interest in recent years for their exceptional properties and diverse applications in the construction and engineering sectors. However, the development of these cements is relatively recent (they emerged at the beginning of the 20th century), so there are still certain aspects relating to their durability that need to be evaluated. The present work analyses the chemical durability of magnesium potassium phosphate cements (MKPCs) during 1 year of immersion in three leaching media: seawater, a Na2SO4 solution (4% by mass) and deionized water. For this, pastes of prismatic specimens of MKPC, prepared with different M/P ratio (2 and 3), were submitted to the different chemical attacks. At different ages, the changes on the mechanical strengths, microstructure (BSEM, MIP) and mineralogy (XRD, FTIR, TG/DTG) were evaluated. The results obtained indicate that, in general terms, MKPC systems show good behavior in the three media, with the more resistant system being the one prepared with a M/P molar ratio of 3. Micro-electro discharge machine (EDM) is one of the ultra-precision machine used for the production of miniature parts of various sizes in the range of 1–999 m. The major sources of vibration induced in the micro-EDM is due to linear motor and sparks between tool and workpice. The study has been carried out to understand the variations in the vibration parameters of the micro-EDM due to the use of the deionized (DI) water in the machining chamber in which tool electrode and workpiece engages during operations. In the present study, the standard level of vibrations in z, y and x axes are measured for confirming the accuracy and repeatability in accordance with prevailing practices. Excitation force from the top frame due to linear motor and transmitted force to the base of micro-EDM were also measured for obtaining the exact values of the transmissibility in terms of force, velocity and displacement units. The variation in transmissibility has been identified due to the change in damping ratio of the EDM by use of dielectric medium as deionized (DI) water in the machining chamber. For this study, a fast Fourier transform analyzer, three accelerometers, a force transducer and the analyzer have been used to acquire the vibration data. The change in operating frequencies were also measured with respect to variations in current supply in micro-EDM with DI water and with air only in the by use of oscilloscope. The results of the study have confirmed that the use of deionized media (air and water) affects the vibration parameters in all the directions of the micro-EDM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The role of buffer in modulating the enzymatic hydrolysis environment of lignocellulose is crucial. However, studies on the impact of buffer on high-solid enzymatic hydrolysis remain limited. This study discovered that utilizing deionized water as a reaction medium, rather than the conventional buffer, did not influence the enzymatic hydrolysis of steam-exploded corn stover when the solid loading ranged between 15 and 25%. At 15% solid loading, the glucan conversion in the group treated with buffer was recorded at 89.8%, with a corresponding glucose concentration of 51.1 g/L. In contrast, the group without buffer exhibited a conversion of 88.9% and a glucose concentration of 50.5 g/L. The increase of acid groups in lignin was attributed to the formation of phenolic hydroxyls during steam explosion, which provided the substrate with the necessary conditions for buffering effects. Sequentially, during the high-solid enzymatic hydrolysis process, the substrate's increased pore volume and specific surface area could potentially offset the buffering capacity, which led to the buffering effect becoming ineffective. Leveraging the self-buffering effect of the substrate, a fed-batch strategy was developed. This strategy replaced the water supplementation with buffers, augmenting the solid loading from 20 to 33% across six distinct feeding sessions over a span of 72 h. This not only reduced costs but also laid the foundation for the industrial viability of lignocellulosic high-concentration sugar production, thereby advancing the biofuels and bioproducts sector. Brain can be a useful specimen for toxicology testing as it is a protected and isolated organ with lower metabolic activity than other tissues, but there is currently no published data supporting the stability of stimulant drugs in prepared brain homogenates. Brain homogenates were evaluated to determine the stability of the following stimulant drugs: amphetamine, benzoylecgonine, bupropion, cocaethylene, cocaine, ephedrine, methylenedioxyamphetamine, methylenedioxymethamphetamine, methamphetamine, and phentermine. Four different homogenates were prepared at a 1:4 dilution with deionized water and fortified at 500 ng/mL of: cocaine without sodium fluoride, cocaine with 1% sodium fluoride, stimulant drugs other than cocaine without sodium fluoride, and stimulant drugs other than cocaine with 1% sodium fluoride. The fortified homogenates were aliquoted into 13 × 100-mm screw cap tubes and stored at room temperature (∼20°C), refrigerated (2–8°C), or frozen (<−5°C) and analyzed in triplicate on Days 0, 1, 3, 7, 14, 30, 60, and 90. Analytes were considered stable as long as the difference in analyte/internal standard response ratio from Day 0 was less than 20% and the peaks met qualitative acceptance criteria. All analytes were stable for up to 90 days when stored frozen with or without sodium fluoride and had variable stability at all other evaluated conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The exposure of the seeds to environmental stresses constitutes a limiting factor that controls the success of germination and the creation of new seedlings. Germination rate and seedling growth from bean were examined after imbibition of seeds with deionized water (control), co-precipitation Fe3O4 NPs1 (43 nm), or green synthesis Fe3O4 NPs2 (6 nm). Fe3O4 NPs increased the germination rate. The results showed that Fe3O4 NPs2 had a higher positive effect on seed germination and growth compared to Fe3O4 NPs1. The effects of Fe3O4 NPs1 and Fe3O4 NPs2 on the germination of bean seeds varied depending on NP concentrations and sizes. Fe3O4 NPs2 caused higher metabolic activities (increase in amino acids and soluble sugar contents) and lower solute leakage, which controlled seed viability. Moreover, peroxidase (GPOX; EC 1.11.1.7) and dehydrogenase (EC; 1.1.1.1) activities were induced in response to NPs application, which improved defense mechanisms and reduced oxidative damage. Fe3O4 NPs2 had a greater favorable effect on seed germination and growth than Fe3O4 NPs1. A novel methodology to obtain 3D printable BiVO 4 precursor scaffolds (3DM-BiVO 4) via robocasting, showing excellent periodicity, shape retention, and mechanical stability, is disclosed for the first time. The ceramic pastes (solids at 70 wt.-%) comprised of BiVO 4 precursor, SiO 2 NPs, and a solution of deionized water: ethylene glycol (volume ratio 1:2, DI water: EG) exhibited enhanced rheology for the 3D printing of self-supported structures (3DM-BiVO 4). The thermal treatment induced a monoclinic scheelite phase, and the ethylene glycol contributed to achieving a unique square flake-like particle morphology. 3DM-BiVO 4 scaffolds were used as reusable monolithic photocatalysts, showing 72% acetaminophen mineralization at 240 min and pH = 9. This innovative approach opens avenues for designing 3D printable ceramic pastes, offering potential applications in tailoring-made monolithic photocatalyst fabrication by using SiO 2 NPs as an inorganic binder. It is known that floriculture is very important for the world economic scenario. Nevertheless, the vase life of cut flowers is determined by a short time span. This study evaluated the spectral behavior during leaf degradation of lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum) flower stems in the postharvest, in different preservative solutions, and estimating its leaf pigments by hyperspectral data. Lisianthus floral stems were subjected to preservative solutions with different concentrations of sucrose, glucose, phytohormones and deionized water. Leaves from these stems were collected every 4 days for further hyperspectral analysis. Spectra was determined in laboratory with a sensor collecting at the range of 350-2500 nm. In order to analyze the use of the spectra to detect the performance of the preservative solutions, statistical tests were used at each wavelength. Pigment prediction was assessed by the CAR/CLF ratio (Ratio between Carotenoids and Chlorophyll) from the spectral curves, using PLSR and RRMSE. The glucose-based solutions registered positive effects on the preservation of floral stems, especially at the dose of 180 g/L. The solutions based on sucrose and phytohormones registered similarities in the spectral curves among the doses, demonstrating equality in leaf preservation. The discriminant analyses demonstrated there was statistical difference in the spectral responses in the doses for each solution used. The CAR/CLF ratio had reasonable coefficients of 0.6 and RRMSE below 6.99%. The hyperspectral analyses presented a potential for the evaluation of leaf degradation in lisianthus floral stems in different pulsing solutions used in the postharvest. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study evaluated the effect of solutions containing aminomethacrylate copolymer (AA) and sodium fluoride (F; 225 ppm F−) or fluoride plus stannous chloride (FSn; 225 ppm F−, 800 ppm Sn2+) against enamel and dentin erosion/abrasion. Solutions F, FSn, AA, F+AA, FSn+AA, and deionized water as negative control were tested. Bovine enamel and dentin specimens (n = 13/solution/substrate) underwent a set of erosion‐abrasion cycles (0.3% citric acid [5 min, 4×/day], human saliva [1 h, 4×/day], brushing [15 s, 2×/day], and treatments [2 min, 2×/day]) for each of five days. Initial enamel erosion was evaluated using Knoop microhardness after the first and second acid challenge on day 1, and surface loss with profilometry after day 5. KOH‐soluble fluoride was assessed. Data were analyzed with ANOVA/Tukey tests. The combination of fluoride and AA resulted in higher protection against enamel erosion, whereas this was not the case for the combination of AA and FSn. All treatments protected against enamel and dentin loss. The lowest surface loss values were observed with F+AA and FSn+AA. The polymer did not significantly influence the KOH‐soluble fluoride formation on enamel/dentin specimens. The aminomethacrylate copolymer effectively enhanced the efficacy of sodium fluoride against initial erosion and improved the control of enamel and dentin wear of F and FSn solutions. Being a recognized carcinogen, hexavalent chromium is hazardous to both human and environmental health. Thus, it is imperative to regulate and oversee their levels in a variety of industries, including textiles, dyes, pigments, and metal finishing. This study strives to reduce Cr(VI) in wastewater by using capacitive deionization in conjunction with an activated carbon-based electrode and a continuous electrochemical reactor (CER). Activated carbon derived from rubberwood sawdust demonstrated excellent properties, including a high surface area of 1157 m2 g−1. The electrical conductivity and mechanical stability of the electrode were enhanced by the incorporation of synthesized expanded graphite (EG) into the AC. Key parameters were optimized via systematic batch electroreduction experiments with an optimal response surface design. The efficacy of the fabricated CER was proved when it successfully reduced Cr(VI) in a 5 mg L−1 solution within 15 min under optimized conditions, in contrast to the considerably longer durations anticipated by conventional methods. Validation of these findings was done by treating industrial wastewater of 30 mg L−1 in the CER. The electroreduction of Cr(VI) followed the Langmuir isotherm with a maximum capacity of 13.491 mg g−1 and pseudo-second-order kinetics. These results indicate that the combined use of the modified AC electrode and CER holds potential as a sustainable and economical approach to effectively eliminate Cr(VI) from wastewater. The Dunhuang murals are a precious treasure of China's cultural heritage, yet they have long been affected by salt damage. Traditional methods for detecting salt content are costly, inefficient, and may cause physical harm to the murals. Among current techniques for measuring salt content in murals, hyperspectral remote sensing technology offers a non-invasive, circumventing issues of high costs, low efficiency. Building on this, the study constructs an inversion model for the Electrical Conductivity (EC) values of mural plaster subjected to phosphate erosion, through the integration of Fractional Order Differentiation (FOD), a novel three-band spectral index, and the Partial Least Squares Regression algorithm. The specific research contents include: (1) Initially, in preparation for the experiments, the materials used to create the samples underwent a rigorous desalting process, and phosphate solutions were prepared using deionized water to ensure uniform experimental conditions and the accuracy of the results. These meticulous preprocessing steps guaranteed that the measured EC values exhibited a clear correlation with the phosphate content. Subsequently, by employing qualitative experimental analysis techniques, this study was able to more accurately simulate the real-world scenarios of mural plaster affected by salt damage, enabling a deeper investigation into the mechanisms by which salts inflict microscopic damage to murals. (2) Explores the absorption mechanisms and characteristic spectral bands of the Electrical Conductivity (EC) values measured after the phosphate erosion of mural plaster. By integrating the optimal spectral indices, a univariate linear regression model is constructed, providing a basis for the rapid quantitative measurement of electrical conductivity in murals. (3) By comparing the accuracy of the Phosphate Simple Ratio (PSR) and Phosphate Normalized Difference Index (PNDI) spectral indices based on the linear regression model, the first six orders of the highest accuracy spectral index were selected as the optimal three-band spectral index combination, used as explanatory variables, with mural plaster electrical conductivity as the response variable, employing the PLSR method to construct the mural phosphate content high-spectral feature inversion model. The study's findings include: (1) Surfaces of samples deteriorated by phosphate erosion formed numerous irregularly shaped crystal clusters, exhibiting uneven characteristics. (2) By comparing the outcomes of different orders of fractional differentiation, it was found that the model performance reached its optimum at a 0.3 order of differentiation for both PSR and PNDI data, with a determination coefficient (Q2) of 0.728. (3) Utilizing PLSR, this study employed the previously determined optimal six-order three-band spectral index combination as explanatory variables, with salt content as the response variable, successfully constructing the high-spectral feature inversion model for mural electrical conductivity with a determination coefficient (Q2) of 0.815. The current bottleneck in the development of efficient photocatalysts for hydrogen evolution is the limited availability of high‐performance acceptor units. Over the past nine years, dibenzo[b,d]thiophene sulfone (DBS) has been the preferred choice for the acceptor unit. Despite extensive exploration of alternative structures as potential replacements for DBS, a superior substitute remains elusive. In this study, a symmetry‐breaking strategy was employed on DBS to develop a novel acceptor unit, BBTT‐1SO. The asymmetric structure of BBTT‐1SO proved beneficial for increasing multiple moment and polarizability. BBTT‐1SO‐containing polymers showed higher efficiencies for hydrogen evolution than their DBS‐containing counterparts by up to 166 %. PBBTT‐1SO exhibited an excellent hydrogen evolution rate (HER) of 222.03 mmol g−1 h−1 and an apparent quantum yield of 27.5 % at 500 nm. Transient spectroscopic studies indicated that the BBTT‐1SO‐based polymers facilitated electron polaron formation, which explains their superior HERs. PBBTT‐1SO also showed 14 % higher HER in natural seawater splitting than that in deionized water splitting. MXenes is a new two-dimensional material which is gaining more attention in recent years for applications in catalysis, energy storage, and environmental remediation. In this study, MXene-Ti3C2 is synthesized from precursor MAX-Ti3AlC2 via etching method and then combined with coconutshell-derived activated carbon to provide a highly conductive and porous composite. The composite will be later employed as electrode materials in capacitive deionization for water desalination. The results have shown an increase in specific capacitance by 3.7 times in the composite (0.5 wt% MXene-Ti3C2) when compared with pure activated carbon. With the continuous expansion of pixel arrays in digital microfluidics (DMF) chips, precise droplet control has emerged as a critical issue requiring detailed consideration. This paper proposes a novel capacitance-based droplet sensing system for thin-film transistor DMF. The proposed circuit features a distinctive inner and outer dual-pixel electrode structure, integrating droplet driving and sensing functionalities. Discharge occurs exclusively at the inner electrode during droplet sensing, effectively addressing droplet perturbation in existing sensing circuits. The circuit employs a novel fan-shaped structure of thin-film transistors. Simulation results show that it can provide a 48 V pixel voltage and demonstrate a sensing voltage difference of over 10 V between deionized water and silicone oil, illustrating its proficiency in droplet driving and accurate sensing. The stability of threshold voltage drift and temperature was also verified for the circuit. The design is tailored for integration into active matrix electrowetting-on-dielectric (AM-EWOD) chips, offering a novel approach to achieve precise closed-loop control of droplets. Dental materials are challenged by wear processes in the oral environment and should be evaluated in laboratory tests prior to clinical use. Many laboratory wear-testing devices are high-cost investments and not available for cross-centre comparisons. The 'Rub&Roll' wear machine enables controlled application of force, chemical and mechanical loading, but the initial design was not able to test against rigid antagonist materials. The current study aimed to probe the sensitivity of a new 'Rub&Roll' set-up by evaluating the effect of force and test solution parameters (deionized water; water + abrasive medium; acid + abrasive medium) on the wear behaviour of direct and indirect dental resin-based composites (RBCs) compared with human molars against 3D-printed rod antagonists. Molars exhibited greater height loss than RBCs in all test groups, with the largest differences recorded with acidic solutions. Direct RBCs showed significantly greater wear than indirect RBCs in the groups containing abrasive media. The acidic + abrasive medium did not result in increased wear of RBC materials. The developed method using the 'Rub&Roll' wear machine in the current investigation has provided a sensitive wear test method to allow initial screening of resin-based composite materials compared with extracted human molars under the influence of different mechanical and erosive challenges. This work aimed to assess microbial inoculants (Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Lentilactobacillus buchneri), chemical additives (natamycin and hexanoic acid), and their combination on fermentation characteristics and aerobic stability in total mixed ration (TMR) silage. The TMR consisted of 30% water bamboo shell (WBS), 10% alfalfa, 20% rice straw, and 40% concentrate. There were six treatments as follows: (1) deionized water (control, CON). (2) lactic acid bacteria (Lactiplantibacillus plantarum + Lentilactobacillus buchneri; LPB, 1 × 106 cfu/g FW). (3) natamycin (NT, 0.02 g/kg FW). (4) hexanoic acid (HA, 0.02 g/kg FW). (5) lactic acid bacteria + natamycin (SLNT, 0.02 g/kg FW). (6) lactic acid bacteria + hexanoic acid (SLHA, 0.02 g/kg FW). After fermentation, laboratory silos (10 L) were opened to assess fermentation quality, followed by a 6-day aerobic stability test. The results showed that all silages were well fermented with high lactic acid (LA) content, low ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), and negligible butyric acid (BA) levels. Among all silages, SLNT silage exhibited the greatest LA, acetic acid (AA) levels, LAB counts, and the lowest pH and NH3-N. For aerobic stability, all additives significantly (p < 0.05) enhanced aerobic stability, delayed (p < 0.05) the decrease in LA and water-soluble carbohydrates (WSC) and the increase in pH, and significantly (p < 0.05) minimized yeast proliferation. The SLNT silage showed the best aerobic stability, with SLHA, NT, HA, and LPB following. Hot water treatment (HWT) is a versatile technique for synthesizing metal oxide nanostructures (MONSTRs) by immersing metal substrates in hot water, typically in glass beakers. The proximity of substrates to the heat source during HWT can influence the temperature of the substrate and subsequently impact MONSTR growth. In our study, zinc (Zn) substrates underwent HWT at the base of a glass beaker in contact with a hot plate and at four different vertical distances from the base. While the set temperature of deionized (DI) water was 75.0 °C, the substrate locations exhibited variations, notably with the base reaching 95.0 °C. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Raman spectroscopy showed stoichiometric and crystalline zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods. ZnO rods on the base, exposed to higher temperatures, displayed greater growth in length and diameter, and higher crystallinity. Nanorods with increasing vertical distances from the base exhibited a logarithmic decrease in length despite identical temperatures, whereas their diameters remained constant. We attribute these findings to crucial HWT growth mechanisms like surface diffusion and "plugging", influenced by temperature and water flow within the beaker. Geopolymer concretes are considered to be a potential sustainable, low-embodied carbon alternative for Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) concrete. Alkali leaching is considered to be a major esthetic concern for Na-silicate-based geopolymers as it can lead to the formation of efflorescence products on the surfaces of concrete members exposed to humidity. In this context, this research aims to investigate the effect of the alkali content and the FA/GGBS mass ratio on the alkali leaching and formation of the efflorescence products. Paste cylinders were fabricated and cured in ambient conditions. Samples were submerged in deionized water and the concentration of the leached-out ions was measured. Efflorescence potential was also investigated by partial immersion of the samples in deionized water. The results highlight the complexity of the interacting parameters governing the formation of efflorescence products in geopolymer materials. Establishing relationships between the concrete mix variables and the risk of efflorescence seems unfeasible particularly because of the wide range of possible precursors and activators available to design geopolymer concrete mixes. To overcome this barrier, a practical performance-based testing method is developed. For the first time, by testing a wide range of geopolymer materials, performance-based requirements associated with the risk of efflorescence for geopolymer concrete surfaces exposed to humidity are calibrated. Cerium oxide, CeO2 nanoparticles (NPs) have been synthesized through various methods to achieve the desired physicochemical properties. However, high temperatures, pressure and long reaction time were involved. In this study, ultra-small CeO2 NPs were successfully synthesized using the hydrothermal method but under a favourably low temperature (70 ℃) for 4 hours using cerium nitrate hexahydrate, Ce(NO3)3 • 6 H2O and sodium hydroxide, NaOH as the precursors while deionized water was used as the solvent. The synthesized ultra-small CeO2 NPs were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), ultraviolet visible (UV-Vis) spectrometer, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method. The synthesized ultra-small CeO2 NPs were determined to have an average particle size of 3.54 nm, crystallite size of 3.05 nm and a high specific surface area of 185 m2 g-1. UV-Vis spectrum also showed absorption peak at 310 nm and FTIR spectrum intense peak at 447.20 cm-1 indicating the presence of CeO2 NPs. FTIR, EDX and XRD diffraction pattern have proved that the synthesized CeO2 NPs is of high purity. This study has successfully synthesized ultra-small CeO2 NPs with optimal conditions of hydrothermal treatment at 70℃ for 4 hours and a percent yield of ~99%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Glyphosate‐based herbicides are the most used worldwide despite the fact that studies have shown their possible adverse effects on human health and the environment. Since the residues of these herbicides reach water bodies, their detection is considered an emergent research topic. In this work, the use of the intrinsic resonance of a microwave interdigitated capacitor fabricated on microstrip technology, is proposed for detecting the presence of glyphosate‐based herbicide in water. In addition, a sample holder is proposed to avoid the possible oxidation of the metal electrodes due to the direct contact with liquids. The proposed structure was designed to present its first intrinsic resonance at 1.95 GHz so that this resonance is shifted to 1.58 GHz when pure deionized water is used as sample. The sensor device was tested against 18 mixtures prepared with concentrations between 0% and 100% v/v of herbicide diluted in deionized water. Experimental measurements confirm that by using the intrinsic resonance parameters of the proposed structure, is possible to detect the presence of a glyphosate‐based herbicide. Finally, the results confirm the potential of the proposal as an alternative for real‐time, label‐free, and sensitive detection of glyphosate in water and they open the possibility of exploiting its use for the detection of other contaminants. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of four inorganic salts, KCl, NaCl, KBr and NaBr, on the thermodynamic conditions of methane hydrate formation. In order to achieve this, the vapor–liquid water-hydrate (VLWH) equilibrium conditions of methane (CH4) hydrate were measured in the temperature range of 274.15 K–282.15 K by the isothermal pressure search method. The results demonstrated that, in comparison with deionized water, the four inorganic salts exhibited a significant thermodynamic inhibition on CH4 hydrate. Furthermore, the inhibitory effect of Na+ on methane hydrate is more pronounced than that of K+, where there is no discernible difference between Cl− and Br−. The dissociation enthalpy ( ∆ H d i s s ) of CH4 hydrate in the four inorganic salt solutions is comparable to that of deionized water, indicating that the inorganic salt does not participate in the formation of hydrate crystals. The Chen–Guo hydrate model and N–NRTL–NRF activity model were employed to forecast the equilibrium conditions of CH4 hydrate in electrolyte solution. The absolute relative deviation (AARD) between the predicted and experimental values were 1.24%, 1.08%, 1.18% and 1.21%, respectively. The model demonstrated satisfactory universality and accuracy. A smartphone-based colorimetric detection method was optimized for measuring the fluoride content in tea extracts using zirconium-xylenol orange reagent. The images of the formed color complex in the presence of fluoride were captured and analyzed their color components through the RGB (Red, Green, Blue) vector values. To maintain the capturing conditions, a colorimetric box (150 × 70 × 90 mm) was self-designed by optimizing the smartphone camera-sample holder/cuvette distance and inside brightness. The calibration curve was constructed from 0.5 to 25 mg/L with the goodness of linearity (R2 > 0.995). Favorable repeatability and reproducibility were obtained (RSDr = 5.01% and RSDR = 5.02%), according to the Appendix F of AOAC (2016). UV–Vis and F ion-selective electrode were simultaneously conducted as reference methods for the developed smartphone-based method, demonstrating comparable fluoride content results in tea extracts obtained from these methods. Using 2.5 g tea brewed in 100 mL of deionized water at 90 °C for 60 min, a descending fluoride content order was achieved: black tea (3.31–3.85 mg/L) > oolong tea (2.38–2.65 mg/L) > green tea (2.25–2.97 mg/L) > white tea (2.28–2.31 mg/L). The smartphone-based method was also applied to evaluate the effects of different brewing conditions on the fluoride content in tea extracts, indicating the higher brewing temperature and prolonged time could accelerate the release of fluoride in tea extracts. This study provides a quality control tool for tea consumers and manufacturers as well as contributes to enrich the applications of smartphone-based methods in the food sections, especially for Vietnam with the diversity of agricultural products. Tough bonding and low friction are required for the candidate artificial articular cartilage materials. Inspired by the soft-on-hard composite structure of natural cartilage, polyvinyl alcohol/polyacrylamide (PVA/PAAm) hydrogel-on-titanium alloy was prepared by a casting-drying method to combine the excellent lubrication of soft hydrogel and the high load-bearing capacity of rigid substrate. The influences of PVA: PAAm mass ratio and swelling on the interfacial toughness of PVA/PAAm hydrogel-on-titanium alloy were evaluated by the 90° peeling test, and the friction property was investigated as a function of PVA: PAAm mass ratio, lubricating medium, and load. The results show that the interfacial toughness of PVA/PAAm hydrogel-on-titanium alloy ranges from 150 N m−1 to 400 N m−1 in dry state, while the interfacial toughness decreases significantly after swelling in deionized water for 24 h. The friction coefficient of PVA/PAAm hydrogel-on-Ti6Al4V alloy is ~ 0.15 when PVA: PAAm mass ratio is 1:2 under fetal bovine serum lubricating. The wettability of black silicon (BSi) layers fabricated by reactive ion etching (RIE), metal‐assisted chemical etching (MACE), and laser‐induced etching (LIE) techniques is studied. The contact angles of wetting on the samples with deionized water and methylammonium iodide‐based perovskite solutions are determined. It is found that the element composition and the enlargement area factor of BSi layers have a significant effect on their wettability. When tested with water, the RIE and MACE BSi layers exhibit hydrophobic properties, while the LIE BSi layer demonstrates hydrophilic properties due to the SiOx‐rich surface structures. It is also shown that aging leads to a decrease in the water contact angle. Upon exposure to perovskite solution droplets, BSi layers become highly lyophilic. Based on the Wenzel and Cassie–Baxter models, the mechanisms responsible for the wetting states of the fabricated samples are identified. This study focused on synthesizing a cellulose-based hydrogel nanocomposite as a green hydrogel by adding a microcrystalline cellulose (MC) solution to carboxymethyl cellulose sodium (CMC-Na) with citric acid as a cross-linker. Y2O3 nanoparticles were incorporated during hydrogel preparation in different ratios (0.00% (0 mmol), 0.03% (0.017 mmol), 0.07% (0.04 mmol) and 0.10% (0.44 mmol)). FTIR analysis confirmed the cross-linking reaction, while XRD analysis revealed the hydrogels' amorphous nature and identified sodium citrate crystals formed from the reaction between citric acid and CMC-Na. The swelling test in deionized water (pH 6.5) at 25 °C showed a maximum swelling percentage of 150% after 24 h in the highest nanoparticle ratio. The resulting cellulose hydrogels were flexible and exhibited significant antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli). Pultruded fiber reinforced polymer composites used in civil, power, and offshore/marine applications use fillers as resin extenders and for process efficiency. Although the primary use of fillers is in the form of an extender and processing aid, the appropriate selection of filler can result in enhancing mechanical performance characteristics, durability, and multifunctionality. This is of special interest in structural and high voltage applications where the previous use of specific fillers has been at levels that are too low to provide these enhancements. This study investigates the use of montmorillonite organoclay fillers of three different particle sizes as substitutes for conventional CaCO3 fillers with the intent of enhancing mechanical performance and hygrothermal durability. The study investigates moisture uptake and kinetics and reveals that uptake is well described by a two-stage process that incorporates both a diffusion dominated initial phase and a second slower phase representing relaxation and deterioration. The incorporation of the organoclay particles substantially decreases uptake levels in comparison to the use of CaCO3 fillers while also enhancing stage I, diffusion, dominated stability, with the use of the 1.5 mm organoclay fillers showing as much as a 41.5% reduction in peak uptake as compared to the CaCO3 fillers at the same 20% loading level (by weight of resin). The mechanical performance was characterized using tension, flexure, and short beam shear tests. The organoclay fillers showed a significant improvement in each, albeit with differences due to particle size. Overall, the best performance after exposure to four different temperatures of immersion in deionized water was shown by the 4.8 mm organoclay filler-based E-glass/vinylester composite system, which was the only one to have less than a 50% deterioration over all characteristics after immersion for a year in deionized water at the highest temperature investigated (70 °C). The fillers not only enhance resistance to uptake but also increase tortuosity in the path, thereby decreasing the overall effect of uptake. The observations demonstrate that the use of the exfoliated organoclay particles with intercalation, which have been previously used in very low amounts, and which are known to be beneficial in relation to enhanced thermal stability, flame retardancy, and decreased flammability, provide enhanced mechanical characteristics, decreased moisture uptake, and increased hygrothermal durability when used at particle loading levels comparable to those of conventional fillers, suggesting that these novel systems could be considered for critical structural applications. Mn2+‐doped metal halide perovskites present remarkable optical properties in optoelectronic applications, although the realization of high efficiency and stability is still a challenge. In this work, a series of highly efficient and stable orange‐emitting Mn2+ alloyed Cs4Cd1‐xMnxBi2Cl12 single crystals are successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal reaction. Combined with the crystal structure and spectral characterization at 7 K, the site occupation of Mn2+ and defect emission are systematically discussed. Benefiting from the effective [BiCl6]3−→[MnCl6]4− energy transfer and lattice distortion, these single crystals exhibit a maximum internal and external quantum yield of ≈97% and ≈65% at 35% heavy doping level. Interestingly, these Mn2+‐alloyed single crystals exhibit remarkably waterproof stability, no decrease in emission intensity is observed after immersion in deionized water for 4 h. After soaking in deionized water for 100 days, the internal quantum yield can still maintain 44%, implying good chemical stability and moisture resistance due to the formation of protective BiOCl layer. The manifold microchannel heat sink (MMCHS) has been widely used in the field of electronic device cooling due to its high heat dissipation ability. In order to further reduce the flow resistance and improve the heat transfer performance of the microchannel, this paper proposes a novel MMCHS combining trapezoidal cross-section and curved corners and referred to as TC-MMCHS. Al2O3-water nanofluid was used as the coolant. The impacts of the channel cross-sectional shapes, curved corners, trapezoidal structure parameters, and nanoparticle volume fraction on the flow and heat transfer performance of MMCHS were numerically studied. The results showed that, for the same pumping power, compared with the four MMCHS structures, the trapezoidal flat MMCHS (TF-MMCHS) has the lowest thermal resistance and entropy generation, and therefore it exhibits the highest overall performance. The introduction of curved corners significantly reduces the flow resistance, and compared with TF-MMCHS, the pumping power of TC-MMCHS decreases by up to 11.33%. When the bottom angle is equal to 78.7°, the heat transfer characteristics and irreversible losses of TC-MMCHS reach their optimal values. The increase of the channel width is not conducive to the improvement of heat transfer characteristics. However, it can significantly decrease the pumping power by 69.85%. Compared with the conventional MMCHS which uses deionized water as coolant, the introduction of Al2O3–water nanofluid into TC-MMCHS reduces the thermal resistance and entropy generation by 14.22% and 12.36%, respectively. The topological and morphological changes of the (001) surface of single‐crystal (La0.3Sr0.7)(Al0.65Ta0.35)O3 during treatment with high‐purity deionized water (DI) have been investigated by atomic force microscopy and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). Etching by DI treatment at room temperature proceeded mainly in anisotropic etching mode, resulting in rectangular etch pits with {001} inner surfaces forming in the surface. The dominant etching mode changed from anisotropic to isotropic with increasing DI‐treatment temperature, and the lowest surface roughness occurred for DI treatment at 50°C for 60 min. Direct observation of the atomic structure of the surface by STEM showed that the etched surface was the B‐site‐terminated (001) surface after anisotropic etching at 50°C for 60 min, in which the B‐site‐terminated atomic layer was found to maintain the B‐site ordered structure existing in the crystal. This is because DI treatment, which does not require high‐temperature heat treatment of the substrate, suppresses element diffusion, sublimation, and formation of point defects on and in the vicinity of the surface. Transparent wood composite (TWC) is a novel wood-based polymer composite that combines high optical transmittance (more than 80%) with good mechanical and thermal properties. It offers numerous potential areas of applications, including smart windows, energy-efficient elements, display panels, light diffusers and substrates for solar cells. The sensitivity of TWC towards moisture and biological agents such as fungus becomes important for certain applications. In this study, TWCs were prepared using wood veneers of Populus deltoides (poplar) and Melia dubia (melia) through the process of lignin-modification bleaching and epoxy-resin infiltration. Water-absorption studies were carried out by immersing TWC specimens in deionized water for a duration of 400 h and by exposing specimens to different relative humidity (RH) conditions. The fungal resistance was evaluated by exposing specimens to a brown rot (Oligoporous placentus) and a white rot (Trametes hirsutu) fungus. Results indicated that TWC can absorb a maximum of 8% to 10% of water during a water immersion test for a period of 400 h. Exposing TWC specimens to different RH conditions resulted in no significant moisture adsorption. TWC was highly resistant to white rot and brown rot fungus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study aimed to characterize the physicochemical properties of acidified biochar derived from rice straw. The characterization provides useful information on the potential use of rice straw biochar to attain optimal outcomes for environmental or agricultural applications. In this study, rice straw biochar was acidified using 0.1 N HCl three times, followed by washing with deionized water twice, air-dried for seven days, and oven-dried at 80 ℃ for 8 hours. The characterization showed that the physicochemical properties generally reduced after acid modification. The FESEMEDS revealed no apparent changes in surface morphology, while elements C, Si, O, N, P, K, Mg, S, Na, Cl, and Al were all determined in acidified biochar. The BET showed that acid modification and pulverization caused a decrease in surface area, pore volume, and pore radius. In ATR-FTIR, additional peaks of carbonyl (C = O Stretch) and alkane (C-H Bend) were identified. Furthermore, XRD showed that acidified biochar confirmed the amorphous structure of the material. In the initial assessment, the addition improved the physicochemical properties of saline-sodic soil by decreasing the pH, ESP, and SAR while increasing WSA, CEC and Mg. Given the results, the reduction and improvement in the properties of acidified biochar demonstrate its potential as soil ameliorant for saline-sodic soil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to evaluate how the operational procedure adopted for pellet placement and the exposure to subsurface conditions influence the mechanical integrity of bentonite plugs used as barrier elements in the abandonment of petroleum wells. To this end, the plugs were formed by hydrating the pellets directly in water, simulating the onshore procedure, while the offshore plugs were obtained from pellets hydrated in deionized water after immersion in diesel or olefin, which are suggested as displacement fluids. The plugs obtained were tested by compression and adhesion tests. These mechanical tests were also carried out for specimens obtained from plugs exposed to four formulations of synthetic formation waters. The results obtained demonstrated that, in the offshore procedure, the previous contact with olefin may adversely affects the mechanical stability of bentonite plugs, while plugs formed from pellets immersed in diesel presented satisfactory mechanical properties. However, the contact with formation water evidenced that the onshore plug presents superior resistance than the offshore plug previously immersed in diesel. The highly successful performance of the onshore plug was attested by the maintenance of the compressive strength, which exhibited a maximum reduction of 13%, even after exposure to the most saline formation waters. Although capacitive deionization (CDI) technology has been studied intensively for more than 20 years, its commercialization remains in the initial stage, which is partly caused by the insufficient knowledge exchange between academia and industry. This concept reviews multiple scaling‐up efforts in the CDI technology for treating real water streams, following a case‐by‐case fashion. While the cell architecture in pilot scales is limited to the membrane CDI, highlighting the necessary role of ion‐exchange components during scaling‐ups, different ways of electrode stacking, i. e. monopolar and bipolar, are available. The performance indicators of these CDI systems when treating real water streams are summarized to gain insights into industrial practices. Importantly, key discrepancies in cell components and performances between pilot‐scale and lab‐scale studies are emphasized. Lithium–sulfur batteries (LSBs) are widely studied as an alternative to lithium-ion batteries, this emphasis being due to their high theoretical energy density and low cost, and to the high natural abundance of sulfur. Lithium polysulfide shuttling and lithium dendrite growth have limited their commercialization. Porous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) separators have shown improved performance (relative to hydrocarbon separators) in lithium-ion batteries due to faster lithium-ion migration and higher Li+ transference number. A thin polar PVDF membrane has now been fabricated via phase inversion (an immersion-precipitation method) yielding a β (polar) phase concentration of 72%. Preparation from commercial PVDF used dimethylformamide (DMF) solvent at the optimized crystallizing temperature of 70 °C, and pores in the membrane were generated by exchange of DMF with deionized water as non-solvent. The polar PVDF film produced has the advantages of being ultrathin (15 µm), lightweight (1.15 mg cm−2), of high porosity (75%) and high wettability (84%), and it shows enhanced thermal stability relative to polypropylene (PP). The porous, polar PVDF membrane was combined with a commercially available PP membrane to give a hybrid, two-layer, separator combination for LSBs. A synergy was created in the two-layer separator, providing high sulfur utilization and curbing polysulfide shuttling. The electrochemical performance with the hybrid separator (PP–β-PVDF) was evaluated in LSB cells and showed good cyclability and rate capability: those LSB cells showed a stable capacity of 750 mA h g−1 after 100 cycles at 0.1 C, much higher than that for otherwise-identical cells using a commercial PP-only separator (480 mA h g−1). The optimization of performance parameters, in particular the yield of the synthesis reaction of β‐enaminones in demineralized water, is crucial to improve their efficiency and accuracy. In this report, we investigate the optimization of the synthesis of β‐ketoenamines in deionized water by controlling several parameters such as reaction time, temperature, amine equivalent, acid percentage, and stirring rate. An orthogonal L16 (45) network was created using Taguchi's approach, allowing for the best possible parameters. To forecast the contribution of each parameter, analysis of variance (ANOVA) techniques are also used. Multiple linear and nonlinear regression (MLR, MNLR) and multilayer perception artificial neural network (MLP‐ANN) predictive models were developed. Analysis of the results led to optimized design parameters, with time = 6 h, temperature = 25°C, amine equivalent = 1.5, acid percentage = 20%, and stirring rate = 1000 rpm, leading to a maximum yield of 63%. ANOVA analysis revealed that temperature, stirring rate, acid percentage, and time are the parameters with the greatest influence. The least sensitive parameter is the amine equivalent. The two main interactions are temperature * acid % and amine equivalent * rpm. The MLP‐ANN predictions are in good agreement with the experimental values, resulting in a higher R2 compared to the quadratic regression model and the MLR model. By using molecular docking studies, the produced compounds' biological activity was investigated. Some of the synthesized compounds appear to be interesting and could be used for therapeutic applications. A CO2 hydrogenation reactor based on protonic ceramic electrolysis cells (PCECs) is one of the most promising options for the efficient and clean conversion of CO2. However, insufficient performance and durability have hindered the practical application of such CO2 hydrogenation reactors. Here, fabricates a large‐area (≈10 cm2) tubular air electrode supported PCEC (AES‐PCEC) and develop a fuel electrode regeneration strategy for efficient and durable CO2 hydrogenation. The AES‐PCEC demonstrates a CO yield of 2.88 mL min−1 at 650 °C while maintaining excellent durability for over 1100 h. The high stability of the AES‐PCEC can be attributed to the robust and thin fuel electrode structure as well as the water‐mediated carbon removal regeneration mechanism. Density functional theory calculations have confirmed the regeneration mechanism facilitated by the excellent water hydration and dissociation capability of the BaCe0.4Zr0.4Y0.1Yb0.1O3‐σ. To investigate the influence of acid‐base environments on the properties of chopped fiber‐reinforced resin matrix composites, corresponding unsealed specimens were prepared. These specimens were immersed in sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid solution, and deionized water for varying durations, after which their mechanical properties and surface hardness were tested. Changes in chemical composition, as well as alterations in fiber and resin matrix, were observed from a microscopic perspective. The results indicate that fracture at the fiber/matrix interface and hydrolysis aging of the matrix are the primary reasons for degradation in the mechanical properties of the composite. After 28 days of immersion, the hardness retention rates were found to be 54.34%, 75.96%, and 74.15% for deionized water, NaOH solution, and HCl solution, respectively. Similarly, the retention rates of tensile strength were 56.99%, 51.97%, and 58.32%, respectively. These findings provide valuable insights for the application of chopped fiber‐reinforced vinyl ester resin matrix composite materials in equipment designed in acid‐base environments. Water electrolysis remains a key component in the societal transition to green energy. Membrane electrolyzers are the state‐of‐the‐art technology for water electrolysis, relying on 80 °C operation in highly alkaline electrolytes, which is undesirable for many of the myriad end‐use cases for electrolytic water splitting. Herein, an alternative water electrolysis process, decoupled electrolysis, is described which performed in mild acidic conditions with excellent efficiencies. Decoupled electrolysis sequentially performs the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), at the same catalyst. Here, H+ ions generated from the OER are stored through pseudocapacitive (redox) charge storage, and released to drive the HER. Here, decoupled electrolysis is demonstrated using cheap, abundant, TiO2 for the first time. To achieve decoupled acid electrolysis, ultra‐small anatase TiO2 particles (4.5 nm diameter) are prepared. These ultra‐small TiO2 particles supported on a carbon felt electrode show a highly electrochemical surface area with a capacitance of 375 F g−1. When these electrodes are tested for decoupled water splitting an overall energy efficiency of 52.4% is observed, with excellent stability over 3000 cycles of testing. Silver (Ag) is deemed a promising anode material for capacitive deionization (CDI) due to its high theoretical capacity and efficient selectivity to Cl−. However, the strong volume change during the conversion reaction significantly undermines the cycling performance of the Ag electrode. Additionally, achieving well‐dispersed Ag in the active matrix is challenging, as Ag electrodes prepared by conventional thermal reduction tend to agglomerate. Herein, the organic linker confinement strategy is proposed, applying metal–organic framework (MOF) chemistry between Ag nodes and organic ligands to construct Ag‐based MOF. The uniform dispersion of Ag at the molecular level, confined in the organic matrix, efficiently enhances the utilization of active sites, and strengthens the interfacial stability of Ag. Consequently, the Ag‐MOF for the CDI anode exhibits an excellent Cl− removal capacity of 121.52 mg g−1 at 20 mA g−1 in 500 mg L−1 NaCl solution, and a high Ag utilization rate of 60.54%. After 100 cycles, a capacity retention of 96.93% is achieved. Furthermore, the Cl− capture mechanism of Ag‐MOF is elucidated through density functional theory (DFT) calculations, ex situ XRD, ex situ Raman and XPS. Background: Since traditional germination test methods have drawbacks such as slow efficiency, proneness to error, and damage to seeds, a non-destructive testing method is proposed for full-process germination of radish seeds, which improves the monitoring efficiency of seed quality. Results: Based on YOLOv8n, a lightweight test model YOLOv8-R is proposed, where the number of parameters, the amount of calculation, and size of weights are significantly reduced by replacing the backbone network with PP-LCNet, the neck part with CCFM, the C2f of the neck part with OREPA, the SPPF with FocalModulation, and the Detect of the head part with LADH. The ablation test and comparative test prove the performance of the model. With adoption of germination rate, germination index, and germination potential as the three vitality indicators, the seed germination phenotype collection system and YOLOv8-R model are used to analyze the full time-series sequence effects of different ZnO NPs concentrations on germination of radish seeds under varying degrees of salt stress. Conclusions: The results show that salt stress inhibits the germination of radish seeds and that the inhibition effect is more obvious with the increased concentration of NaCl solution; in cultivation with deionized water, the germination rate of radish seeds does not change significantly with increased concentration of ZnO NPs, but the germination index and germination potential increase initially and then decline; in cultivation with NaCl solution, the germination rate, germination potential and germination index of radish seeds first increase and then decline with increased concentration of ZnO NPs. Capacitive humidity sensors typically consist of interdigitated electrodes coated with a dielectric layer sensitive to varying relative humidity levels. Previous studies have investigated different polymeric materials that exhibit changes in conductivity in response to water vapor to design capacitive humidity sensors. However, lipid films like monoolein have not yet been integrated with humidity sensors, nor has the potential use of capacitive sensors for skin hydration measurements been fully explored. This study explores the application of monoolein-coated wireless capacitive sensors for assessing relative humidity and skin hydration, utilizing the sensitive dielectric properties of the monoolein–water system. This sensitivity hinges on the water absorption and release from the surrounding environment. Tested across various humidity levels and temperatures, these novel double functional sensors feature interdigitated electrodes covered with monoolein and show promising potential for wireless detection of skin hydration. The water uptake and rheological behavior of monoolein in response to humidity were evaluated using a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring. The findings from these experiments suggest that the capacitance of the system is primarily influenced by the amount of water in the monoolein system, with the lyotropic or physical state of monoolein playing a secondary role. A proof-of-principle demonstration compared the sensor's performance under varying conditions to that of other commercially available skin hydration meters, affirming its effectiveness, reliability, and commercial viability.
