The use of drones in coffee farming has emerged as a solution to optimize phytosanitary and nutritional management, particularly in crops with dense canopies. Effective drone spraying requires precise adjustments to parameters like spray volume and flight speed to maintain application efficiency as the coffee plants grow. This study investigated the efficiency of drone spraying across varying spray volumes and flight speeds in coffee plants of two distinct ages, focusing on droplet deposition within the upper, middle, and lower thirds of the plant canopy. The experiment was conducted in coffee plantations aged 2.5 and 6.5 years, with treatments consisting of four spray volumes (8, 12, 16, and 20 L ha⁻¹) and two flight speeds (12 and 15 km h⁻¹), each replicated three times. Water-sensitive papers were placed in the three canopy layers to assess droplet deposition. In younger coffee plants, the position of the water-sensitive paper showed no significant differences in droplet distribution, while in older plants, larger droplets were predominantly found in the upper third of the canopy. Spray volume and flight speed influenced the droplet spectrum, with volumes of 8 and 16 L ha⁻¹ at 12 km h⁻¹ producing larger droplets in 2.5-year-old plants, whereas 20 L ha⁻¹ at 12 km h⁻¹ resulted in larger droplets in 6.5-year-old plants. These findings underscore the importance of calibrating drone parameters based on plant age, product type, and target location, as spray volume and flight speed significantly affect product distribution and canopy penetration.

Given the introduction of increasingly productive and early maturing maize cultivars over the past decade, coupled with the restricted availability of herbicides for controlling eudicots weeds in common bean crops, leading producers have resorted to using mixtures of active ingredients. Consequently, there arises a necessity for studies to assess the carryover effects of these mixtures in succession crops. The objective of this study was to evaluate the residual effect of herbicides applied in common bean cultivars on maize, during two cultivation periods. The statistical design was a randomized complete block with four replications. The common bean cultivars BRS Pérola, IPR Tuiuiú, and BRSMG Marte were planted in the summer season 2016/2017 and in the winter season 2017, and subsequently, the maize DKB 390PRO was planted in the winter season and summer season, respectively. The experimental plots were treated with herbicides applied post-emergence, isolated or mixed, at the following rates [g a.i. ha-1]: fomesafen [250]; fomesafen [375]; bentazon + imazamox [600+28]; bentazon + imazamox + fomesafen [(600+28)+125]; and bentazon + imazamox + fomesafen [(600+28)+87.5]; and hand weeding without herbicide. The herbicides did not cause negative effects on maize yield, regardless of the sowing period and common bean cultivar.

Abstract Pitaya production has been expanding in several regions of Brazil despite the lack of technical information on plant management. To obtain good crop productivity, weed control is essential; however, the use of herbicides can cause phytotoxicity and reduce plant growth and production. Thus, the present work aimed to evaluate the tolerance of red (Selenicereus polyrhizus) and white (S. undatus) pitaya seedlings to different herbicides applied after emergence. Two experiments were installed, one with red pitaya and the another with white pitaya, on August 15, 2020 in the Fruit Production Sector of the Federal University of Lavras. Experiments were arranged in a randomized block design, with four and three replicates, respectively, eight treatments and three plants per plot in both experiments. Treatments consisted of control, fomesafen, ammonium glufosinate, glyphosate, clethodim, carfentrazone-ethyl, imazethapyr and chlorimuron. Visual phytotoxicity symptoms were evaluated at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after herbicide application. At 30 and 60 days after application, percentage of necrosis, cladode length and number of new shoots were evaluated. Herbicide fomesafen caused greater damage to red pitaya seedlings and fomesafen and glyphosate caused greater damage to white pitaya seedlings. For both pitaya species, herbicide clethodim can be an alternative for controlling narrow-leaf weeds without causing visual damage to the growth and development of pitaya plants.

O herbicida tebuthiuron é utilizado em cultivos de cana-de-açúcar sendo um produto persistente no solo. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar a suscetibilidade de diferentes espécies a doses do tebuthiuron para a seleção de plantas bioindicadoras. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições, utilizando-se um Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo distrófico de textura franco-arenosa. Os tratamentos constaram de doses do tebuthiuron: 0,0; 0,12; 0,24; 0,48; 0,72; 0,96; 1,2 kg ha-1 i.a.. As espécies testadas foram alface, amendoim, aveia, beterraba, braquiária, crotalária, pepino, sorgo e tomate. Aos 7, 14 e 21 dias após emergência (DAE) foram realizadas avaliações de fitotoxicidade e aos 21 DAE fez-se a determinação da massa da matéria seca da parte aérea. Por demonstrarem sensibilidade diferencial em relação às doses, em ordem crescente de sensibilidade: amendoim, aveia, braquiária, sorgo e pepino apresentam potencial para uso como bioindicadoras em estudos com tebuthiuron no solo.

O ácido salicílico (AS) pode ser usado como atenuador de estresses causados por herbicidas em plantas e, assim, viabilizar a utilização de flumioxazin na cultura do trigo. Diante disso, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do AS como atenuador de fitotoxicidade causada por flumioxazin na cultura do trigo. Realizou-se um experimento em campo, de maio a setembro de 2015, no delineamento em blocos casualizados com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos aplicados foram: controle (sem herbicida, sem AS e capinado); flumioxazin (40 g.ha-1); flumioxazin + AS em mistura de calda (40 g.ha-1 + 0,5 mM); flumioxazin + AS em mistura de calda + AS 7 dias após a aplicação (DAA) do herbicida (40 g.ha-1 + 0,5 mM + 0,5 mM); AS (0,5 mM). Foram realizadas avaliações de índice SPAD, fitotoxicidade, massa de mil grãos, peso hectolitro e produtividade. A mistura de AS com flumioxazin aumentou em 7% o índice SPAD aos 21 DAA, reduziu em 30% a fitotoxicidade aos 28 DAA e elevou em 3,43% a produtividade em relação à aplicação isolada de flumioxazin. A aplicação adicional de AS aos 7 DAA reduziu a fitotoxicidade em até 50%, aumentou em até 8,72% o índice SPAD e possibilitou ganhos de 1,49% na produtividade e de 5,46% no peso hectolitro, quando comparado ao herbicida aplicado isoladamente. A aplicação de AS atenuou o estresse causado por flumioxazin no trigo.

The objective of this research was to evaluate the potential of the foliar fertilizer FertiG as an attenuator of Metribuzin toxicity in the carrot crop. Experiments were carried out in the 2014 and 2015 crops cycles. The treatments were arranged in a 4 x 3 factorial scheme, four times of foliar fertilizer application and three doses of Metribuzin (0, 288 and 576 g ha-1). In crop 1, the foliar fertilizer with the herbicide (288 g ha-1) increased the commercial yield 5 d before the Metribuzin application. The use of FertiG associated to Metribuzin reduced the production of forked carrots 5 d before application and without the foliar fertilizer. The tank mixture decreased the total discard as well as the total yield (576 g ha-1). In crop 2, the commercial yield increased 5 d before (576 g ha-1) and 5 d after (288 g ha-1) the application of Metribuzin when the leaf fertilizer was associated with the herbicide. The yield of the forked carrots decreased 5 d after the application of Metribuzin (288 g ha-1), as well as the total discard. Thus, when associated with Metribuzin (288 g ha-1), FertiG has the potential to attenuate the herbicide toxicity in carrots.

Some plant species have the ability to stimulate the microbiota activity in the rhizosphere and thereby increase the herbicide degradation in the soil. This study aimed at evaluating the microbial activity of soils contaminated with picloram and pre-cultivated with phytoremediation species. The experimental design was completely randomized, with three replicates. The treatments were organized in a 5 x 2 factorial scheme, with the first factor being the types of cultivation (autoclaved and non-autoclaved soil without cultivation and soil from the rhizosphere of Urochloa brizantha, Panicum maximum and Zea mays) and the second factor referring to the absence or presence (240 g ha-1) of picloram. The evolved C-CO2, microbial biomass carbon and metabolic quotient were estimated. The herbicide altered the evolved C-CO2, however, it did not affect the microbial biomass carbon and the metabolic quotient in the rhizospheric soils of the species. The cultivation of Zea mays increased the rhizosphere activity. The three plant species affect the soil microbial activity, however, the cultivation of Panicum maximum and Urochloa brizantha cause a lower disturbance on the microbial population, if compared to Zea mays. The picloran application does not affect the biological quality of the soils studied.

Uma das técnicas alternativas que minimizam o efeito de herbicidas de longo período residual consiste no cultivo de espécies vegetais que se associam a microbiota do solo, acelerando a degradação do agrotóxico no ambiente. Assim, objetivou-se neste trabalho avaliar o impacto do herbicida sulfentrazone sobre a atividade e a biomassa microbiana em solo com e sem cultivo de Canavalia ensiformis, como espécie remediadora. Amostras de solo foram coletadas em um experimento de campo onde os tratamentos foram dispostos em esquema fatorial 2x2 (aplicação ou não do sulfentrazone associados ou não ao cultivo de C. ensiformis), em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. As datas de coleta das amostras de solo foram 15 e 70 dias após o plantio da espécie remediadora. Em laboratório, avaliou-se o carbono do CO2 (C-CO2) liberado, o carbono da biomassa microbiana (CBM) e foi calculado o quociente metabólico (qCO2). Com o cultivo de C. ensiformis, nas amostras de solo tratadas ou não com herbicida ocorreram oscilações nos valores do C-CO2 liberado e do CBM. Todavia, o qCO2 foi menor nos tratamentos com aplicação do sulfentrazone e com o cultivo da planta remediadora, indicando que cultivar C. ensiformis em áreas contaminadas com sulfentrazone reduz o efeito prejudicial sobre a atividade biológica do solo, proporcionando aumentos dos valores do CBM e proporcionando um equilíbrio do sistema.

Considerando a importância dos microrganismos do solo, objetivou-se avaliar a biomassa e atividade microbiana em um Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo, submetido aos sistemas de plantio direto e convencional e às sucessões de culturas milho-feijão e soja-trigo por dez anos. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, com três repetições. Nas parcelas foram dispostos os sistemas de plantio, e nas subparcelas, as sucessões de culturas. Amostras de solo foram coletadas nas profundidades 0-5, 5-10 e 10-15 cm, e nelas determinadas o carbono da biomassa microbiana, respiração basal do solo e o carbono orgânico total, e calculados os índices quociente metabólico e quociente microbiano. Não houve diferença no carbono da biomassa microbiana entre os sistemas de plantio e as sucessões de culturas em nenhuma das profundidades amostradas. A taxa respiratória dos microrganismos diferiu entre sucessões de culturas na profundidade de 0-5 cm, com maior valor para a sucessão soja-trigo. O carbono orgânico nas profundidades de 5-10 e 10-15 cm foi 27,1 e 37,5% maiores no plantio convencional do que no plantio direto, respectivamente. O quociente microbiano, na profundidade de 10-15 cm, foi maior no plantio direto. Conclui-se que as sucessões de culturas influenciam a taxa respiratória dos microrganismos no solo, principalmente em menor profundidade. A sucessão soja-trigo proporciona maior atividade dos microrganismos no solo estudado. Não houve diferença na biomassa e atividade microbiana entre os sistemas analisados nas camadas superficiais do solo, após dez anos de cultivo consecutivos, possivelmente porque não houve, em ambos, restrições químicas e/ou físicas marcantes, como compactação.

O uso de herbicidas com longa atividade residual no solo reduz o número de aplicações e o custo de produção, mas pode causar efeitos negativos às culturas sensíveis implantadas em sucessão. Dois experimentos em campo foram realizados para avaliar o efeito residual de herbicidas sobre as culturas do milho e da soja. Utilizou-se o delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram constituídos de quatro herbicidas: Atrazine, Flumioxazin, Metribuzin e mistura DHS (Diuron, Hexazinone e Sulfometuron-methyl), além do controle sem herbicida. A semeadura do milho e da soja ocorreu 120 dias após a aplicação dos herbicidas em pré-emergência das plantas daninhas. Realizou-se avaliações de índice SPAD(Soil Plant Analysis Development), matéria seca da parte aérea e produtividade para ambas as culturas. Para a cultura da soja determinou-se também o número de grãos e vagem por planta e o peso de mil grãos. O residual de herbicidas no solo causou efeitos fitotóxicos às culturas do milho e da soja, diminuindo a intensidade da cor verde das folhas, a matéria seca da parte aérea e a produtividade. Não foi observado efeito residual de Atrazine e Metribuzin sobre o milho. A atividade residual da Mistura DHS no solo causa maior toxicidade para o milho e a soja, com efeito negativo em todas variáveis analisadas.

A seleção de espécies bioindicadoras do ethoxysulfuron pode viabilizar o estudo do comportamento deste herbicida no solo pela técnica de bioensaio, constituindo assim o objetivo deste trabalho. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições, em que quatro espécies vegetais (sorgo, pepino, beterraba e tomate) foram cultivadas em solo submetido à aplicação de seis doses de ethoxysulfuron (0; 18,75; 37,5; 75; 112,5 e 150 g ha-1). Avaliou-se a fitointoxicação, altura de plantas (ALT) e matéria seca da parte aérea (MSPA), da raiz (MSR) e total (MST). Foram observados diferentes níveis de tolerância das espécies ao herbicida: o aumento das doses de ethoxysulfuron reduziu as variáveis ALT, MSPA, MSR e MST e aumentou a fitointoxicação para pepino, beterraba e tomate. O sorgo apresentou baixa sensibilidade ao herbicida. As maiores doses avaliadas inibiram o crescimento em altura e o acúmulo de matéria seca do pepino. A beterraba se comportou como espécie extremamente sensível, com redução de 100% em ALT e matéria seca a partir da segunda menor dose (37,5 g ha-1). Entre as espécies avaliadas, o pepino apresenta maior potencial para uso como bioindicadora em estudos com ethoxysulfuron.

Os resíduos do herbicida tembotrione no solo, proveniente de cultivos de milho, podem afetar o crescimento de culturas sensíveis, como a batata, em sucessão. Neste sentido, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do herbicida tembotrione sobre o crescimento e o desenvolvimento da batateira. Realizou-se um experimento de campo em delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram incorporados ao solo um dia antes do plantio da batata cultivar Atlantic e constituídos de quatro doses de tembotrione: 8,4; 16,8; 33,6 e 50,4 g ha-1, representando 8,4; 16,8; 33,6 e 50% da dose recomendada para a cultura do milho, e um tratamento controle (sem herbicida e capinada). Aos 60 e 90 dias após o plantio foram avaliadas a massa de matéria fresca de tubérculo (MMFT), o número de hastes (NH), o número de tubérculos (NT) por planta e a massa de matéria seca total (parte aérea + haste) (MMST). A MMFT, NT e MMST decresceram com o aumento das doses do tembotrione, sendo que as maiores reduções encontradas, nas duas épocas avaliadas, foram na dose de 50,4 g ha-1 i.a. O número de hastes não foi influenciado pelas doses do herbicida tembotrione independente da época avaliada. Os resultados obtidos indicaram que a presença de tembotrione no solo reduziu o crescimento e a quantidade de tubérculos produzidos pela batateira.

Crop rotation improves potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) crops; however, in some cases, it can have some negative effects due to the herbicides previously used in crops under rotation. These effects are the decline in the yield and the appearance of physiological disorders, including cracked tubers, which impair the quality and economic value of the potato. Two field experiments were performed with applications of tembotrione and atrazine, alone or in combination. In the Rio Paranaiba (Minas Gerais State) area, in clay soil, the herbicides were applied at post-emergence in corn (Zea mays L.). After corn harvest and soil preparation, the potatoes were planted. In the Serra do Salitre (Minas Gerais State) area, in the medium texture soil, the herbicides were applied and incorporated into the soil, and the potatoes were planted the day after. No injuries were found in the shoots. Decline in the potato yield was found only in the medium texture soil (Serra do Salitre). Atrazine did not affect the quality of potato tubers. In the two areas, tembotrione promoted cracks in “Atlantic” potato tubers.

The presence of weeds in eucalypt plantations, especially in the first two years, can result in losses of productivity because it reduces the efficiency of growth resource use by the crop. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of weed interference in two Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis clones on initial growth and nutrient foliar concentration in the crop and weeds. The experiment was conducted in a factorial 2 x 5 +7 in which it used two clones of Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis , identified as CNB001 and CNB016, competing with five weeds Urochloa decumbens , Ipomoea nil , Commelina diffusa , Spermacoce latifolia and Panicum maximum . Also the two eucalypt clones and the five weeds were grown in monoculture as a standard for comparison. It was used a completely randomized design with four replications. The eucalypt initial growth was evaluated by plant height, stem diameter, branches number, leaf area, dry matter and nutrient content in the leaves of eucalyptus. Nutrient concentration in leaves weed also was evaluated. The CNB001 clone showed initial growth upper at the clone CNB016. Free of weed interference both clones presented similar foliar contents for most nutrients. Clone CNB016 was more sensitive to competition with weeds than clone CNB001, being its initial growth most harmed by Ipomoea nil and concentration of nutrients reduced by Panicum maximum , Urochloa decumbens and Commelina diffusa . Panicum maximum showed greater interference with clone CNB001 while Ipomoea nil showed low negative influence in growth and nutrient concentration of crop. The weeds have high ability to extract nutrients from the soil in competition with Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis clones. The interference imposed on the culture is dependent on weed species and eucalypt genotype.

The understanding of weed interference on crops is very important in agricultural systems. However, there is little known about the influence of soil fertility management in competitive relations between plants. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of mutual interference between weeds and corn on the content of macronutrients under different soil fertility managements. The experimental test was conducted in a greenhouse, considering four soil fertility managements (with calcium and magnesium silicate and fertilization; with limestone and fertilization; without correction of acidity, but with fertilization; without correction of acidity and without fertilization) and eleven crops (five arrangements of competition between Zea mays and the weeds Urochloa brizantha, Ipomoea grandifolia, Conyza canadensis, Hyptis suaveolens and Bidens pilosa, plus the six species in monoculture). Corn had reductions exceeding 50% in the content of all macronutrients under interference of U. brizantha. Additionally, U. brizantha and B. pilosa in competition with corn has high ability to extract macronutrients in the four soil conditions. Calcium and magnesium silicate and limestone influenced variable on nutrient accumulation by weeds in monoculture or under interference. Corn grown in soil amended with silicate suffered greater competition with weeds compared to grown in soil amended with lime. U. brizantha was the specie most damaging to the crop. B. pilosa showed high potential for nutrient cycling in the four soil fertility management.

Entre as possibilidades de manejo de plantas daninhas, o método químico é o mais utilizado. No entanto, um possível problema apresentado por esse método é a deriva acidental. Assim, conhecer esse risco e como quantificar seu efeito na cultura é fundamental para que esses produtos sejam empregados corretamente no manejo de plantas daninhas. Este trabalho teve como objetivo estudar o efeito da deriva simulada de herbicidas, por meio de subdoses, no crescimento de mudas de dois clones de eucalipto, considerando-se a possibilidade de extensão de seu uso. Foram utilizados os herbicidas atrazine, nicossulfuron e tembotrione e as misturas formuladas foramsulfurom + iodossulfurom-metílico e fluazifop-p-butyl + fomesafen, aplicados nas doses correspondentes a 3, 6 e 12% da dose recomendada. Foi avaliada a porcentagem de intoxicação, altura, diâmetro do caule e massa de matéria seca da parte aérea. Os herbicidas afetaram o crescimento das plantas de eucalipto, limitando principalmente o incremento em massa de matéria seca da parte aérea. O risco de perdas de produtividade, caso haja intoxicação via deriva, é menor com atrazine, foramsulfurom + iodossulfurom-metílico e tembotrione e maior com fluazifop-p-butyl + fomesafen e nicossulfuron. Entre os produtos testados, o tembotrione é o que apresenta maior potencial para ser utilizado em áreas de eucalipto.

Apparent soil electrical conductivity (ECa) measurements can be used for crop management in precision agriculture. However, ECa is a soil attribute that presents spatial and temporal variability. It is affected by a group of factors that act simultaneously on the soil, such as the soil texture, moisture content, organic matter content and ionic concentrations in the soil solution, which complicates analysis. For soil and crop management, it is important to determine whether the pattern of the ECa spatial variability changes over time. Thus, ECa measurements have the potential for delimiting management zones that are stable over time. The objective of this work was to determine whether the spatial variability pattern of ECa is maintained over time and under different soil conditions. To this end, the ECa was measured at different soil depths using a portable sensor on two crop fields. The first step was to measure and generate an ECa map for each area. By defining a path with the maximum ECa variability, 50 sampling points were located on each field. The ECa values were measured on 20 different dates in the 0 - 20 cm, 0 - 40 cm and 0 - 60 cm soil layers. The soil water content was measured at the same points in the 0 - 20 cm layer on the same dates. The temporal stability of the ECa was analyzed using spatial and temporal variability maps, a correlation analysis and a coefficient of variation over time for each field. In both areas, the ECa exhibited temporal stability in the spatial pattern variability at the three evaluated depths, even though the soil water content values changed on each date. ECa determination presents an important alternative for mapping agricultural fields for crop management in precision agricultural systems.
