Current-voltage measurement (I–V curve) is a typical method to identify the critical current (Ic) of second-generation high-temperature superconducting tapes (2G HTS tapes). However, it is difficult to characterize the local Ic of 2G HTS tape on the millimeter (mm) scale due to the set spacing of the voltage electrodes (several centimeters), so non-contact trapped field distribution measurements have been used to define local defects in Y–Ba–Cu–O bulks and 2G HTS tapes, especially for the quality analysis for long lengths of 2G HTS tapes. In order to discuss the possible degradation of 2G HTS tape during heating and bending (both important parameters in joining process), this study used both trapped field measurement and I–V measurement to characterize the effect of heating (190 °C–230 °C) and bending (radius = 3.75 mm–22.35 mm) processes on the degradation of 2G HTS tape Ic. In addition, according to electromagnetic calculations, the local Ic (within a few millimeters) of the 2G HTS tape can be obtained from the flux density and distribution of the trapped magnetic field. Comparing the two sets of Ic measurements showed very good agreement. This study demonstrates the accuracy of optimized heating and bending parameters as well as spatial position and local Ic values of processed 2G HTS tape through non-contact trapped field measurements.

However, little is known about why, when, and how CSR would encourage employees to engage in unethical pro-organizational behaviors (UPB). Combining attribution theory with cue consistency theory, this study develops a mediated moderation model to explore the mechanism and boundary condition underlying the effect of external CSR, an organizational factor, on employees' UPB. Data were collected from 304 employees working in 10 SMEs in China at two-time points. The results showed that external CSR had a positive effect on UPB through symbolic attribution, while perceived internal CSR weakened the positive effect of external CSR on UPB as well as the indirect effect of symbolic attribution in the relationship between external CSR and UPB. Overall, this study explains why, when, and how external CSR facilitates employees' UPB. These findings indicate attribution to be the very mechanism that explains employees' behavioral response to the organization's external CSR and provide an innovative insight into how internal CSR may be utilized to reduce UPB of employees of Chinese SMEs.

The long-term heating (>60 min) of second generation high temperature superconductor (2G HTS) tape-joints at temperatures above 200 °C leads to the continuous deterioration of their superconducting properties. Previously, we proposed a resistive Joule heating process with a short heating time (∼10 min) that exhibited beneficial critical current (Ic), retention percentages (84–99 %), and joint resistances (74–697 nΩ cm2) in four independent experiments.In this study, we investigated two heating rates and three tape-joint areas. The results show that for the samples with different tape joint areas, the critical current retention percentages (97–100 %) and uniformity of specific joint resistances (82–272 nΩ cm2) were significantly improved at a high heating rate of ∼30 °C/min. The sintering of silver nanoparticles and oxidation characteristics of the copper stabilizers were observed using transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy to elucidate the effect of different heating profiles. This study opens new avenues for improving the quality of 2G HTS tape joint processes for ultrahigh magnetic field applications.

Balancing economic prosperity with environmental sustainability is crucial in today’s global landscape. As climate change poses urgent challenges, economic development remains a priority, particularly in disadvantaged regions. This paper examines the rise of environmental and climate-related provisions in trade agreements, focusing on the Asia-Pacific and Western Balkans regions. Historically, trade agreements had minimal environmental focus, but recent trends show a surge in such provisions, reflecting a growing recognition of environmental challenges. The Asia-Pacific region, heavily impacted by climate change, increasingly incorporates environmental clauses in Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs), as seen in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Similarly, amid European Union integration, the Western Balkans embed environmental clauses in trade pacts like Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA-2006), influenced by EU accession aspirations. The paper examines the emergence of environmental and climate-smart provisions in free trade agreements, before focusing on regional trade agreements in the Asia-Pacific Region and the Western Balkans. In addition, a qualitative analysis using NVivo 14 software is conducted, employing text search and word frequency analyses, to assess regional trade agreements in the Asia-Pacific and Western Balkan countries. The results show varying levels of commitment to environmental standards across the examined agreements, with the Asia-Pacific countries generally showing greater integration of climate considerations compared to the Western Balkans. AimsOur aim was to differentiate patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) from cognitively normal (CN) individuals and predict the progression from MCI to AD within a 3-year longitudinal follow-up. A newly developed Holo-Hilbert Spectral Analysis (HHSA) was applied to resting state EEG (rsEEG), and features were extracted and subjected to machine learning algorithms.MethodsA total of 205 participants were recruited from three hospitals, with CN (n = 51, MMSE > 26), MCI (n = 42, CDR = 0.5, MMSE ≥ 25), AD1 (n = 61, CDR = 1, MMSE < 25), AD2 (n = 35, CDR = 2, MMSE < 16), and AD3 (n = 16, CDR = 3, MMSE < 16). rsEEG was also acquired from all subjects. Seventy-two MCI patients (CDR = 0.5) were longitudinally followed up with two rsEEG recordings within 3 years and further subdivided into an MCI-stable group (MCI-S, n = 36) and an MCI-converted group (MCI-C, n = 36). The HHSA was then applied to the rsEEG data, and features were extracted and subjected to machine-learning algorithms.Results(a) At the group level analysis, the HHSA contrast of MCI and different stages of AD showed augmented amplitude modulation (AM) power of lower-frequency oscillations (LFO; delta and theta bands) with attenuated AM power of higher-frequency oscillations (HFO; beta and gamma bands) compared with cognitively normal elderly controls. The alpha frequency oscillation showed augmented AM power across MCI to AD1 with a reverse trend at AD2. The involvement of Loose Plant Architecture 1 (LPA1) in regulating plant growth and leaf angle has been previously demonstrated. However, the fundamental genetic background remains unidentified. To further understand the tissue expression profile of the NtLPA1 gene, an overexpression vector (pBI121-NtLPA1) was developed and employed to modify tobacco using the leaf disc method genetically. Validation confirmed the generation of transgenic tobacco plants with NtLPA1 overexpression. The findings indicated that increased NtLPA1 overexpression substantially decreased plant auxin sensitivity and modulated signal transduction and polar transport, significantly reducing leaf angle, diminished leaf area during early and late growth stages, and shortened root length. In summary, NtLPA1 augmented tobacco resistance to severe shin disease by modulating the expression of disease-associated genes PBZ1, PR1b, and the growth regulator auxin polar transport factor PIN1. At present, the influence of time-harmonic currents on the leakage flux coefficient of canned permanent magnet synchronous motors (CPMSMs) remains unclear. Therefore, this paper investigates and summarizes the effects of inverter time-harmonic currents on the leakage flux coefficient of the CPMSM. A 1.5 kW, 9000 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) CPMSM is used as the research subject. Based on a finite element model, the leakage flux coefficients under sinusoidal and non-sinusoidal supply conditions are calculated using the magnetic flux density integration method. Additionally, the study examines changes in the leakage flux coefficient under different harmonic orders and amplitudes. The results indicate that the introduction of fifth and seventh time-harmonic currents by the inverter reduces the leakage flux coefficient, which helps to improve the utilization of the permanent magnets. The J-TEXT capability is enhanced compared to two years ago with several upgrades of its diagnostics and the increase of electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) power to 1 MW. With the application of electron cyclotron wave (ECW), the ECW assisted plasma startup is achieved; the tearing mode is suppressed; the toroidal injection of 300 kW ECW drives around 24 kA current; fast electrons are generated with toroidal injected ECW and the runaway current conversion efficiency increases with ECRH power. The mode coupling between 2/1 and 3/1 modes are extensively studied. The coupled 2/1 and 3/1 modes usually lead to major disruption. Their coupling can be either suppressed or avoided by external resonant magnetic perturbation fields and hence avoids the major disruption. It is also found that the 2/1 threshold of external field is significantly reduced by a pre-excited 3/1 mode, which can be either a locked island or an external kink mode. The disruption control is studied by developing prediction methods capable of cross tokamak application and by new mitigation methods, such as the biased electrode or electromagnetic pellet injector. The high-density operation and related disruptions are studied from various aspects. Approaching the density limit, the collapse of the edge shear layer is observed and such collapse can be prevented by applying edge biasing, leading to an increased density limit. The density limit is also observed to increase, if the plasma is operated in the poloidal divertor configuration or the plasma purity is increased by increasing the pre-filled gas pressure or ECRH power during the start-up phase.

Abstract. Background:. There is growing evidence that 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) combined with therapeutic trauma can effectively induce skin repigmentation in vitiligo patients who are unresponsive to conventional treatments. Previous studies have mainly focused on identifying the antimitotic activity of 5-FU for the treatment of skin cancer, but few studies have investigated its extra-genotoxic actions favoring melanocyte recruitment. Methods:. We utilized the full thickness excisional skin wound model in Dct-LacZ transgenic mice to dynamically assess the migration of melanocytes in the margins of wounds treated with or without 5-FU. The in-situ expression of CXCL12 was examined in the wound beds using immunofluorescence staining. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting analyses were performed to detect the expression levels of CXCL12 mRNA and protein in primary mouse dermal fibroblasts treated with or without 5-FU. Transwell assays and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-phalloidin staining were used to observe cell migration and filamentous actin (F-actin) changes of melan-a murine melanocytes. Results:. Whole mount and cryosection X-gal staining showed that the cell numbers of LacZ-positive melanocytes were much higher in the margins of dorsal and tail skin wounds treated with 5-FU compared with the controls. Abstract. Vitiligo is a common depigmented skin disease that negatively affects the physical and mental health of patients. The 2018 version of the Vitiligo Treatment Consensus has been updated based on the research progress on vitiligo in the past 3 years in combination with the clinical experiences of experts. The newly revised points include maintenance therapy, early glucocorticoid intervention, and oral mini-pulsed glucocorticoid administration protocols. The prospect of using JAK inhibitors in the treatment of vitiligo is also discussed.

Taking autonomous driving and driverless as the research object, we discuss and define intelligent high-precision map. Intelligent high-precision map is considered as a key link of future travel, a carrier of real-time perception of traffic resources in the entire space-time range, and the criterion for the operation and control of the whole process of the vehicle. As a new form of map, it has distinctive features in terms of cartography theory and application requirements compared with traditional navigation electronic maps. Thus, it is necessary to analyze and discuss its key features and problems to promote the development of research and application of intelligent high-precision map. Accordingly, we propose an information transmission model based on the cartography theory and combine the wheeled robot’s control flow in practical application. Next, we put forward the data logic structure of intelligent high-precision map, and analyze its application in autonomous driving. Then, we summarize the computing mode of “Crowdsourcing+Edge-Cloud Collaborative Computing”, and carry out key technical analysis on how to improve the quality of crowdsourced data. We also analyze the effective application scenarios of intelligent high-precision map in the future. Finally, we present some thoughts and suggestions for the future development of this field.

Abstract. Current treatment of vitiligo is still a great challenge, since most cases of vitiligo have variable re-pigmentation outcomes due to their unpredictable responses to existing therapeutic regimens. There is an urgent need to identify this re-pigmentation process and to develop novel therapies. This review illustrates the most current research and latest understanding of vitiligo skin re-pigmentation and related regulatory mechanisms. Literature was collected from PubMed until January 2020, using the search terms including “vitiligo,” “re-pigmentation,” “phototherapy,” “narrow-band ultraviolet B, ” “excimer,” “fractional carbon dioxide laser,” and “melanocyte stem cells.” Literature was mainly derived from English articles. Article type was not limited. Emerging evidence suggests that patients with vitiligo present various re-pigmentation patterns following ultraviolet B phototherapy, which relies on different cell reservoirs from the perilesional margins and/or from uninvolved hair follicles to replenish functional melanocytes that are lost in vitiliginous skin. The following events are likely to be involved in this re-pigmentation process, including: 1) changes in the paracrine secretion and distribution of transforming growth factor-β1 in the bulge area and in the epidermis; 2) the enhanced transfer of dermal pro-melanogenic growth factors to the epidermis; and 3) the induction of a C-X-C motif chemokine ligand (CXCL) 12-enriched micro-environment that efficiently recruits CXCR4- or CXCR7-positive melanocytes. Ongoing studies on the cellular and molecular events underlying vitiligo re-pigmentation will help design new therapeutic strategies to improve treatment outcomes.

In pursuit of expanding dietary options for those with allergies, we aimed to develop a low‐allergenic fermented milk beverage. We adopted a combination fermentation strategy to enhance the allergy mitigation efficacy of 4 strains of lactic acid bacteria. Our fermentation conditions were optimised with an equal ratio (1:1:1:1) of strains, a total 5% inoculation rate and fermentation at 40°C for 6.5 h. Under conditions, the antigen reduction rates for α‐lactalbumin (α‐LA), β‐lactoglobulin (β‐LG), α‐casein and β‐casein were impressive, ranging from 43.54 to 70.51%. A 28‐day storage assessment showed that the reduction rates of the 4 antigens ranged from 38.98% to 78.06%. Most importantly, it was found through indirect competitive ELISA that the binding ability of immunoglobulin E to α‐LA and β‐LG, which we are concerned about, was significantly reduced compared to the unfermented sample. The initiation and intensity of warm rain are processes dominated by the evolution of cloud droplet spectra. To treat the cloud condensation process properly is a fundamental step for the simulation of warm rain formation. Double-moment bulk schemes with a limited number of prognostic variables cannot simulate the evolution of droplet spectra properly. A triple-moment bulk scheme, however, should overcome the problem of spurious cloud droplet spectrum broadening induced by double-moment schemes. To compare the effects of a newly developed triple-moment scheme with double-moment schemes on warm rain formation, the authors conducted WRF-LES numerical simulations to investigate the impacts of the two types of condensation scheme on rain initiation and intensity. In the early stage of raindrop formation, the simulation with the triple-moment scheme delays the raindrop initiation and produces droplet spectra with smaller average radii than those with the double-moment scheme. In the developing stage, the triple-moment scheme reduces the raindrop water content at the precipitation center. However, the further triple-moment scheme for raindrop is needed to simulate the development of warm rain accurately.

Pit mud (PM), as an important source of microorganisms, is necessary for Chinese strong-flavor baijiu (CSFB) production. Although it has been revealed that the PM prokaryotic community diversities are influenced by its quality, product area, ages, etc., the characteristics and assembly process of the prokaryotic community in PMs across a pH gradient are still unclear. In this study, the regular changes of α- and β-diversities of the prokaryotic community across a pH gradient in PMs were revealed, which could be divided into "stable", "relatively stable", and "drastically changed" periods. A total of 27 phyla, 53 classes, and 381 genera were observed in all given samples, dominated by Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Proteobacteria, Lactobacillus, Caproiciproducens, Proteiniphilum, etc. Meanwhile, the complexity of the network structure of the prokaryotic microbial communities is significantly influenced by pH. The community assembly was jointly shaped by deterministic and stochastic processes, with stochastic process contributing more. This study was a specialized report on elucidating the characteristics and assembly of PM prokaryotic communities across a pH gradient, and revealed that the diversity and structure of PM prokaryotic communities could be predictable, to some degree, which could contribute to expanding our understanding of prokaryotic communities in PM. Hierarchical zeolites attract people’s attention due to their enhanced mass transfer properties in catalytic reactions. The research over obtaining these zeolites in green and efficient methods is of great significance for the current post-treatments and templating strategies tend to be costly for hierarchical zeolite synthesis. In this research, nanosized mesoporous ZSM-5 (SN-ZSM-5) zeolites have been synthesized without the addition of mesoscale templates under highly concentrated conditions. The physicochemical characteristics were systematically investigated by XRD, SEM, N2 sorption, TEM, and NMR. The SEM images showed ZSM-5 crystals with sizes between 50–110 nm were obtained. N2 sorption and high-resolution TEM images gave direct evidence for the hierarchical structure of SN-ZSM-5. The forming mechanism for the hierarchical structure was proposed that the etching effect of the highly alkaline environment for the starting gels played a critical role in the formation of hierarchical structure. Catalytic tests in methanol-to-olefins (MTO) showed the SN-ZSM-5 performed a longer catalyst lifetime and higher propylene selectivity than the conventional ZSM-5 zeolites (C-ZSM-5) obtained from a traditional hydrothermal method. The features of hierarchical structure in the SN-ZSM-5 crystals and the sustainability for synthesis method could show a promising choice for wide applications of these SN-ZSM-5 zeolites in the future.

Based on Droplet Measurement Technologies data of a pre-stratiform-cloud precipitation event in Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, on 11 November 2015, and combined with radar data, this paper comprehensively analyzes the macro- and microphysical characteristics of cloud in the upper trough. The results show that: (1) Detection takes place in the early stage of precipitation and the cloud has multiple layers. The cloud type is stratiform (Sc) and the height of the cloud base is 1009 m, 1009–1700 m is the low Sc layer, 1700–3000 m is the no-cloud level, and 3000 to the maximum height detected is another Sc layer. (2) The Sc is inhomogeneous in the horizontal and vertical directions. The particle number concentration and the effective diameter below the 0 °C layer is significantly higher than that above the 0 °C layer, which is in accordance with the ‘seeder–feeder’ mechanism. Above the 0 °C layer is seeder cloud, where needle, column ice crystals and water droplets coexist, and sublimation and coalescence are the main processes. The morphology of ice crystals changes from needle to column, plate, and polymer as height decreases. Below the 0 °C warm layer is a supply cloud, and the particles develop in the supply cloud with abundant liquid water content. Ice melting and coalescence dominate the warm layer, which makes the effective diameter significantly increase. Down to 4150 m, the ice melts completely into raindrops.

This paper evaluated the regional tourism competitiveness of 22 county-level administrative regions in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China. The study analyzed the connotation of regional tourism competitiveness from the perspectives of resources and economic and environmental benefits, and established an evaluation index system for comprehensive competitiveness. The study used entropy weight TOPSIS to measure the level of tourism competitiveness in Ningxia, and used spatial association and hot and cold analysis to describe the spatial pattern of comprehensive tourism competitiveness in Ningxia. The results indicated that Lingwu City, Xixia District, and Huinong District have high comprehensive tourism competitiveness, while Jingyuan County, Haiyuan County, and Hongsipu District exhibit the weakest comprehensive competitiveness. The study also showed that regional economic development level competitiveness had the greatest impact on the comprehensive competitiveness of county tourism in Ningxia. The northern region and the southern region of Ningxia were the regions with high-high clusters and low-low clusters of tourism competitiveness, respectively. Based on the comprehensive evaluation results, the development level of tourism of Ningxia county was classified into four types: advanced development type, marginal dependence type, improved optimization type, and backward development type. Safe and effective ingredients capable of removing undesired hyperpigmentation from facial skin are urgently needed for both pharmaceutical and cosmetic purposes. Deoxyarbutin (4-[(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl) oxy] phenol, D-Arb) is a glucoside derivative of hydroquinone. Here, we investigated the toxicity and efficacy of D-Arb at the sub-cellular level (directly on melanosomes) and skin pigmentation using in vivo and in vitro models to compare with its parent compound hydroquinone (1,4-benzenediol, HQ). At first, we examined the ultrastructural changes of melanosomes in hyperpigmented guinea pig skin induced by 308-nm monochromatic excimer lightand/or treated with HQ and D-Arb using transmission electron microscopy. The results showed that prominent changes in the melanosomal membrane, such as bulb-like structure and even complete rupture of the outer membranes, were found in the skin after topical application of 5% HQ for 10 days. These changes were barely observed in the skin treated with D-Arb. To further clarify whether membrane toxicity of HQ was a direct result of the compound treatment, we also examinedultrastructural changes of individual melanosomes purified from MNT1 human melanoma cells. Similar observations were obtained from the naked melanosome model in vitro. Finally, we determined the effects of melanosomal fractions exposed to HQ or D-Arb on hydroxyl radical generation in the Fenton reaction utilizing an electron spin resonance assay. D-Arb-treated melanosomesexhibit a moderate hydroxyl radical-scavenging activity, whereas HQ-treated melanosomessignificantly generate more hydroxyl free radicals. This study suggests that D-Arb possesses a potent ability in skin lightening and antioxidation with less melanosome cytotoxicity.

Using high-throughput sequencing technology the changes in bacterial community structure, function and phenotype during the fermentation of medium-temperature Daqu were analyzed. The results showed that the bacterial community of medium-temperature Daqu was mainly composed of Welchiella, Staphylococcus, Escherichia, Lactobacillus, etc. Based on OTU level, the samples of medium-temperature Daqu could be clustered into three stages including early stage (0 d and 3 d), middle stage (9 d and 13 d) and late stage (30 d). Staphylococcus was the main bacteria in the early fermentation stage, weissella was the main dominant bacteria in the middle stage, and muribaculum was the main bacteria in the late fermentation stage. The functional abundance of genes such as amino acid transport and metabolism, carbohydrate transport and metabolism from bacteria inhabiting medium- temperature Daqu was high. The bacterial community in the early and late fermentation stages had higher abundance in gene function such as cell wall / membrane / envelope biogenesis, posttranslational modification, protein turnover, chaperones protein than in the middle fermentation stage. Most microorganisms were facultative anaerobic bacteria in the early stage of fermentation while the aerobic bacteria and anaerobic bacteria dominated in the middle and late stage, respectively. Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) is an important complication for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients receiving induction chemotherapy. However, the epidemiological information is not clear in Southeastern Asia, an area of potential high incidences of IFIs. To clarify it, we enrolled 298 non-M3 adult AML patients receiving induction chemotherapy without systemic anti-fungal prophylaxis from Jan 2004 to Dec 2009, when we applied a prospective diagnostic and treatment algorithm for IFIs. Their demographic parameters, IFI characters, and treatment outcome were collected for analysis. The median age of these patients was 51 years. Standard induction chemotherapy was used for 246 (82.6%) patients, and 66.8% of patients achieved complete remission (CR) or partial remission. The incidence of all-category IFIs was 34.6% (5.7% proven IFIs, 5.0% probable IFIs and 23.8% possible IFIs). Candida tropicalis was the leading pathogen among yeast, and lower respiratory tract was the most common site for IFIs (75.4%, 80/106). Standard induction chemotherapy and failure to CR were identified as risk factors for IFIs. The presence of IFI in induction independently predicted worse survival (hazard ratio 1.536 (1.100-2.141), p value = 0.012). Even in those who survived from the initial IFI insults after 3 months, the presence of IFIs in induction still predicted a poor long-term survival. This study confirms high incidences of IFIs in Southeastern Asia, and illustrates potential risk factors; poor short-term and long-term outcomes are also demonstrated. This epidemiological information will provide useful perspectives for anti-fungal prophylaxis and treatment for AML patients during induction, so that best chances of cure and survival can be provided.

As the main allergens in milk, whey proteins are heat-sensitive proteins and are widespread in dairy products and items in which milk proteins are involved as food additives. The present work sought to investigate the effect of heating sterilization on the allergenicity of α-lactalbumin (α-LA) and β-lactoglobulin (β-LG), the main composite and allergen in whey protein isolate (WPI), by combining molecular dynamics with experimental techniques for detecting the spatial structure and IgE binding capacity. The structure of WPI was basically destroyed at heat sterilization conditions of 95 °C for 5 min and 65 °C for 30 min by SDS-PAGE analysis and spectroscopic analysis. In addition, α-lactalbumin (α-LA) may be more sensitive to temperature, resulting in exposure to allergic epitopes and increasing the allergic potential, while the binding capacity of β-lactoglobulin (β-LG) to IgE was reduced under 65 °C for 30 min. By the radius of gyration (Rg) and root-mean-square deviation (RMSD) plots calculated in molecular dynamics simulations, α-LA was less structurally stable at 368 K, while β-LG remained stable at higher temperatures, indicating that α-LA was more thermally sensitive. In addition, we observed that the regions significantly affected by temperatures were associated with the capacity of allergic epitopes (α-LA 80–101 and β-LG 82–93, 105–121) to bind IgE through root-mean-standard fluctuation (RMSF) plots, which may influence the two major allergens. Intricate coordinated mechanisms that govern the synchrony of hair growth and melanin synthesis remain largely unclear. These two events can be uncoupled in prematurely gray hair, probably due to oxidative insults that lead to the death of oxidative stress-sensitive melanocytes. In this study, we examined the gene expression profiles of middle (bulge) and lower (hair bulb) segments that had been micro-dissected from unpigmented and from normally pigmented hair follicles from the same donors using quantitative real-time RT-PCR (qPCR) arrays. We found a significant down-regulation of melanogenesis-related genes (TYR, TYRP1, MITF, PAX3, POMC) in unpigmented hair bulbs and of marker genes typical for melanocyte precursor cells (PAX3, SOX10, DCT) in unpigmented mid-segments compared with their pigmented analogues. qPCR, western blotting and spin trapping assays revealed that catalase protein expression and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities are strongly repressed in unpigmented hair follicles. These data provide the first clear evidence that compromised antioxidant activity in gray hair follicles simultaneously affects mature hair bulb melanocytes and their immature precursor cells in the bulge region.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of diet supplementation with stevia residue extract (SRE) on growth performance, intestinal health, and antioxidant capacity of weaned piglets. A total of 144 weaned piglets (body weight 6.8 ± 0.5 kg) were randomly selected and allocated into four treatment groups with six replicates of six pigs/pen. The treatments consisted of a basal diet without SRE or basal diet supplemented with 100, 200, or 400 mg/kg SRE. The results showed that the addition of 200 mg/kg SRE to the diet significantly reduced (p < 0.05) the diarrhea rate of piglets compared with the control group. The supplementation of 400 mg/kg SRE in the diet significantly reduced the piglets' serum MDA content and significantly increased (p < 0.05) the T-AOC, T-SOD, and GSH-PX activity in the serum. The dietary supplementation with 400 mg/kg SRE significantly increased (p < 0.05) the CAT and GSH-PX activity in the liver. Moreover, the supplementation of 400 mg/kg SRE in the diet significantly increased (p < 0.05) the relative abundance of Prevotellaceae (genus) and Roseburia (genus) beneficial bacteria compared to the control group. Spearman's correlation analysis showed that Prevotella (genus) abundance was positively correlated with liver GSH-PX activity and acetic acid content of colon contents. In conclusion, the supplementation of 400 mg/kg SRE to the diet can improve piglet health by regulating antioxidant reduction homeostasis, which may also be associated with an increase in the relative numbers of potentially beneficial bacteria.
