Low-temperature, low-pressure Cu-to-Cu direct bonding technology is a promising solution for next-generation high-density interconnects. Previous studies have shown that many properties of nanomaterials are determined by their structural characteristics. Therefore, the effect of the nanostructure (i.e., twin crystal and twin boundary, TB, sizes) on the bonding mechanism and mechanical response of the direct bonding of (111)-oriented nanotwinned Cu (NT-Cu) is studied using molecular dynamics simulations, where TB size means the TB layer thickness in terms of the number of atoms. The simulation results show that NT-Cu with extremely small twin crystals (e.g., 0.625 nm) have poor diffusivity. The number of dislocations induced by plastic deformation increases with increasing twin crystal size during stretching processes, degrading mechanical strength. The strain hardening of bonded NT-Cu with extremely small twin crystals (e.g., 0.625 nm) is dominated by the strong barrier created by a high density of TBs, whereas that with twin crystal sizes of 2.5–10 nm is dominated by dislocation–TB and dislocation–grain boundary interactions. Bonded NT-Cu with 2–6 atoms per TB layer exhibits softening at initial plastic deformation due to the onset of partial collapse of TBs; however, the strength then significantly increases with a further increase in strain due to strain hardening. Physicists have long studied Landau states and energy levels of electrons in a stable magnetic field. However, when the magnetic field dissipates, the question of how Landau states evolve remains unanswered. This study investigates the magnetic dissipative effect from a quantum mechanics perspective. We establish a quantum master equation that describes a dissipative magnetic field. Subsequently, we solve the master equation using an entangled state representation. Consequently, we found that the Landau state evolves into a binomial quantum state (mixed state) when the magnetic field dissipated. This is in sharp contrast to the case where the Landau state becomes a negative binomial state when an additional harmonic oscillator potential is applied. We hope that this finding will be helpful for the evolution of quantized plasma physics.

Concrete linings containing cold joint defects may crack or detach under the aerodynamic fatigue loading generated by high-speed train operation, which posing a serious threat to the normal operation of high-speed trains. However, there is currently no simulation method specifically for fatigue damage of concrete linings containing cold joints. Based on the Roe-Siegmund cycle cohesive force model, a cohesive force fatigue damage elements were developed. A large dataset was constructed through numerical simulation software to build a BP neural network for back-calculated parameter of cohesive force fatigue damage elements. By combining experimental data, fatigue damage parameters corresponding to different pouring interval cold joints were back-calculated. These back-calculated parameters were then incorporated into the numerical model to compare simulation results with experimental results to validate the applicability of cohesive force fatigue damage elements and back propagation neural networks (BP neural network). The research results show that the difference between the fatigue life and fracture process calculated by numerical simulation and experimental data is small, verifying the applicability of the method proposed in this paper. The pouring interval directly affects the initial strength of the cold joint interface and the starting conditions of fatigue damage. The possibility of fatigue damage and fracture of concrete components containing cold joints increases with the increase of pouring interval, while the variability of fatigue life decreases with the increase of pouring interval. Interface strength and thickness are the main factors affecting the possibility of fatigue damage occurrence and the variability of fatigue life. The research results can be used to analyze the damage and cracking status of concrete linings containing cold joints under aerodynamic fatigue loading.

Introduction: Osteosarcoma, the prevailing primary bone malignancy among children and adolescents, is frequently associated with treatment failure primarily due to its pronounced metastatic nature. Methods: This study aimed to establish potential associations between hub genes and subtypes for the treatment of metastatic osteosarcoma. Differentially expressed genes were extracted from patients diagnosed with metastatic osteosarcoma and a control group of non-metastatic patients, using the publicly available gene expression profile (GSE21257). The intersection of these gene sets was determined by focusing on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-related genes sourced from the GeneCards database. We conducted various analytical techniques, including functional and pathway enrichment analysis, WGCNA analysis, protein-protein interaction (PPI) network construction, and assessment of immune cell infiltration, using the intersecting genes. Through this analysis, we identified potential hub genes. Results: Osteosarcoma subtype models were developed using molecular consensus clustering analysis, followed by an examination of the associations between each subtype and hub genes. A total of 138 potential differentially expressed genes related to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress were identified. These genes were further investigated using Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) pathways. Additionally, the PPI interaction network revealed 38 interaction relationships among the top ten hub genes. The findings of the analysis revealed a strong correlation between the extent of immune cell infiltration and both osteosarcoma metastasis and the expression of hub genes. Notably, the differential expression of the top ten hub genes was observed in osteosarcoma clusters 1 and 4, signifying their significant association with the disease. Conclusion: The identification of ten key genes linked to osteosarcoma metastasis and endoplasmic reticulum stress bears potential clinical significance. Additionally, exploring the molecular subtype of osteosarcoma has the capacity to guide clinical treatment decisions, necessitating further investigations and subsequent clinical validations.

The mechanisms of persistent central nervous system (CNS) inflammation in people with HIV (PWH) despite effective antiretroviral therapy (ART) are not fully understood. We have recently shown that plasma anti-CD4 IgGs contribute to poor CD4+ T cell recovery during suppressive ART via antibody-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) against CD4+ T cells, and that plasma anti-CD4 IgG levels are associated with worse cognitive performance and specific brain area atrophy. However, the role of anti-CD4 IgGs in neuroinflammation remains unclear. In the current study, plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples from 31 ART-naive and 26 treated, virologically suppressed PWH, along with 16 HIV-seronegative controls, were evaluated for CSF levels of anti-CD4 IgG, white blood cell (WBC) counts, soluble biomarkers of neuroinflammation, and neurofilament light chain (NfL). We found that 37% of the PWH exhibited elevated CSF anti-CD4 IgG levels, but few or none of the PWH were observed with elevated CSF anti-CD4 IgM, anti-CD8 IgG, or anti-double-strand DNA IgG. CSF anti-CD4 IgG levels in PWH were directly correlated with neuroinflammation (WBC counts, neopterin, and markers of myeloid cell activation), but not with CSF NfL levels. Using cells from one immune nonresponder to ART, we generated a pathogenic anti-CD4 monoclonal IgG (JF19) presenting with ADCC activity; JF19 induced the production of soluble CD14 (sCD14) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) in human primary monocyte-derived macrophages via CD4 binding in vitro. This study demonstrates for the first time that elevated CSF anti-CD4 IgG levels present in a subgroup of PWH which may play a role in neuroinflammation in HIV. IMPORTANCE This study reports that an autoantibody presents in the CNS of HIV patients and that its levels in the CSF correlate with some markers of neuroinflammation.

Abstract Ensemble Forecast Sensitivity to Observation (EFSO) is a technique that can efficiently identify the beneficial/detrimental impacts of every observation in ensemble‐based data assimilation (DA). While EFSO has been successfully employed on atmospheric DA, it has never been applied to ocean or coupled DA due to the lack of a suitable error norm for oceanic variables. This study introduces a new density‐based error norm incorporating sea temperature and salinity forecast errors, making EFSO applicable to ocean DA for the first time. We implemented the oceanic EFSO on the CFSv2‐LETKF and investigated the impact of ocean observations under a weakly coupled DA framework. By removing the detrimental ocean observations detected by EFSO, the CFSv2 forecasts were significantly improved, showing the validation of impact estimation and the great potential of EFSO to be extended as a data selection criterion.

Alloying nanocrystalline Cu (nc–Cu) with immiscible elements (i.e. Zr) is a promising approach for reducing microstructural instability and inhibiting grain growth. Understanding the relationship between the grain size, Zr concentration, deformation, and mechanical properties of the nc–Cu–Zr system is essential for practical applications. Molecular dynamics simulations based on the many-body embedded-atom potential were used for the related analysis from an atomistic point of view. The grain size of nc–Cu was varied from 3 to 9 nm and the Zr concentration was varied from 0% to 7%. The simulation results show that doping Zr atoms into an nc–Cu system enhances tensile strength and ductility, but weakens compressive and shear strengths. Doping 1% Zr into nc–Cu greatly increases both ultimate tensile strength and ultimate tensile strain; the increase is insignificant for higher Zr concentrations (2% to 7%). For a given Zr concentration, the relationship between ultimate tensile strength and grain size is unclear. Grain boundary sliding dominates the elastic deformation mechanism of the nc–Cu–Zr system under tensile, compressive, and shear tests. Porokeratosis comprises a diverse range of both hereditary and acquired disorders characterized by clonal hyperproliferation of keratinocytes. These disorders manifest with a variety of clinical presentations but are histologically unified by the presence of the cornoid lamella. In this study, we report an unusual presentation of a rare clinical variant of porokeratosis, namely disseminated superficial porokeratosis, in which mutations in the Mevalonate decarboxylase (MVD) gene have been identified. This finding contributes to the growing understanding of the genetic underpinnings of this complex dermatological condition and may have implications for diagnosis and treatment. Prostate cancer (PCa) is a multifactorial disease influenced by genetic, environmental, and immunological factors. Genetic polymorphisms in the interleukin-10 (IL-10) gene have been implicated in PCa susceptibility, development, and progression. This study aims to assess the contributions of three IL-10 promoter single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), A-1082G (rs1800896), T-819C (rs3021097), and A-592C (rs1800872), to the risk of PCa in Taiwan. The three IL-10 genotypes were determined using PCR-RFLP methodology and were evaluated for their contributions to PCa risk among 218 PCa patients and 436 non-PCa controls. None of the three IL-10 SNPs were significantly associated with the risks of PCa (p all > 0.05) in the overall analyses. However, the GG at rs1800896 combined with smoking behavior was found to significantly increase the risk of PCa by 3.90-fold (95% confidence interval [95% CI] = 1.28–11.89, p = 0.0231). In addition, the rs1800896 AG and GGs were found to be correlated with the late stages of PCa (odds ratio [OR] = 1.90 and 6.42, 95% CI = 1.05–3.45 and 2.30–17.89, p = 0.0452 and 0.0003, respectively). The IL-10 promoter SNP, A-1082G (rs1800896), might be a risk factor for PCa development among smokers and those at late stages of the disease.
