Background: Bone marrow is the leading site for metastasis from neuroblastoma and affects the prognosis of patients with neuroblastoma. However, the accurate diagnosis of bone marrow metastasis is limited by the high spatial and temporal heterogeneity of neuroblastoma. Radiomics analysis has been applied in various cancers to build accurate diagnostic models but has not yet been applied to bone marrow metastasis of neuroblastoma. Methods: We retrospectively collected information from 187 patients pathologically diagnosed with neuroblastoma and divided them into training and validation sets in a ratio of 7:3. A total of 2632 radiomics features were retrieved from venous and arterial phases of contrast‐enhanced computed tomography (CT), and nine machine learning approaches were used to build radiomics models, including multilayer perceptron (MLP), extreme gradient boosting, and random forest. We also constructed radiomics‐clinical models that combined radiomics features with clinical predictors such as age, gender, ascites, and lymph gland metastasis. The performance of the models was evaluated with receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves, calibration curves, and risk decile plots. Results: The MLP radiomics model yielded an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.97 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.95–0.99) on the training set and 0.90 (95% CI: 0.82–0.95) on the validation set. The radiomics‐clinical model using an MLP yielded an AUC of 0.93 (95% CI: 0.89–0.96) on the training set and 0.91 (95% CI: 0.85–0.97) on the validation set. Background: Neuroblastoma is one common pediatric malignancy notorious for high temporal and spatial heterogeneities. More than half of its patients develop distant metastases involving vascularized organs, especially the bone marrow. It is thus necessary to have an economical, noninvasive method without much radiation for follow‐ups. Radiomics has been used in many cancers to assist accurate diagnosis but not yet in bone marrow metastasis in neuroblastoma. Methods: A total of 182 patients with neuroblastoma were retrospectively collected and randomly divided into the training and validation sets. Five‐hundred and seventy‐two radiomics features were extracted from magnetic resonance imaging, among which 41 significant ones were selected via T‐test for model development. We attempted 13 machine‐learning algorithms and eventually chose three best‐performed models. The integrative performance evaluations are based on the area under the curves (AUCs), calibration curves, risk deciles plots, and other indexes. Results: Extreme gradient boosting, random forest (RF), and adaptive boosting were the top three to predict bone marrow metastases in neuroblastoma while RF was the most accurate one. Its AUC was 0.90 (0.86–0.93), F1 score was 0.82, sensitivity was 0.76, and negative predictive value was 0.79 in the training set. The values were 0.82 (0.71–0.93), 0.80, 0.75, and 0.92 in the validation set, respectively. Conclusions: Radiomics models are likely to contribute more to metastatic diagnoses and the formulation of personalized healthcare strategies in clinics. Longan (Dimocarpus longan Lour.) is a productive fruit crop with high nutritional and medical value in tropical and subtropical regions. The MYB gene family is one of the most widespread plant transcription factor (TF) families participating in the flowering regulation. However, little is known about the MYB TFs involved in the flowering process in longan and its regulatory network. In this study, a total of 119 DlR2R3-MYB genes were identified in the longan genome and were phylogenetically grouped into 28 subgroups. The groupings were supported by highly conserved gene structures and motif composition of DlR2R3-MYB genes in each subgroup. Collinearity analysis demonstrated that segmental replications played a more crucial role in the expansion of the DlR2R3-MYB gene family compared to tandem duplications, and all tandem/segmental duplication gene pairs have evolved under purifying selection. Interspecies synteny analysis among longan and five representative species implied the occurrence of gene duplication events was one of the reasons contributing to functional differentiation among species. RNA-seq data from various tissues showed DlR2R3-MYB genes displayed tissue-preferential expression patterns. The pathway of flower development was enriched with six DlR2R3-MYB genes. Cis -acting element prediction revealed the putative functions of DlR2R3-MYB genes were related to the plant development, phytohormones, and environmental stresses. Notably, the orthologous counterparts between Arabidopsis and longan R2R3-MYB members tended to play conserved roles in the flowering regulation and stress responses. Transcriptome profiling on off-season flower induction (FI) by KClO3 indicated two up-regulated and four down-regulated DlR2R3-MYB genes involved in the response to KClO3 treatment compared with control groups. Additionally, qRT-PCR confirmed certain genes exhibited high expression in flowers/flower buds. Subcellular localization experiments revealed that three predicted flowering-associated MYB proteins were localized in the nucleus. aimed to use a two sample Mendelian randomization (MR) method to identify a potentially causality between waist circumference and the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Methods: With a two‐sample MR approach, we analyzed the summary data. The main analysis was performed by using the summary genetic data from two large consortium cohorts. Three MR approaches were used to explore MR estimates of waist circumference for DVT (inverse‐variance weighted [IVW] approach, weighted median method and MR‐Egger method). A total of 224 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified associated with the level of waist circumference at statistical significance (P < 5*10− 8; linkage disequilibrium r2 < 0.1). Results: The result of IVW indicated the positive association between waist circumference and the risk of DVT (OR 1.012, 95% CI 1.009– 1.014, P 7.627E-17). The other two methods were observed with consistent result. MR-Egger regression analysis indicated that no evidence for the presence of directional horizontal pleiotropy. Additionally, DVT was not a causal factor for waist circumference. Conclusion: In summary, we used the GWAS genetic data from two large consortium cohorts and indicated the positive association between waist circumference and DVT. Basic research suggests some contributing mechanisms underlying asthma might at the same time benefit patients with asthma against sepsis, while the potential protective effect of comorbid asthma on prognosis of sepsis has not been well studied in clinical research. The study aimed to assess the association between comorbid asthma and prognosis in a cohort of patients admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) with severe sepsis. Patients with severe sepsis admitted to ICUs were included from the MIMIC-III Critical Care Database, and categorized as patients without asthma, patients with stable asthma, and patients with acute exacerbation asthma. The primary study outcome was 28-day mortality since ICU admission. Difference in survival distributions among groups were evaluated by Kaplan–Meier estimator. Multivariable Cox regression was employed to examine the association between comorbid asthma and prognosis. A total of 2469 patients with severe sepsis were included, of which 2327 (94.25%) were without asthma, 125 (5.06%) with stable asthma, and 17 (0.69%) with acute exacerbation asthma. Compared with patients without asthma, patients with asthma (either stable or not) had a slightly younger age (66.73 ± 16.32 versus 64.77 ± 14.81 years), a lower proportion of male sex (56.81% versus 40.14%), and a lower median SAPS II score (46 versus 43). Patients with acute exacerbation asthma saw the highest 28-day mortality rate (35.29%), but patients with stable asthma had the lowest 28-day mortality rate (21.60%) when compared to that (34.42%) in patients without asthma. Consistent results were observed in Kaplan–Meier curves with a p-value for log-rank test of 0.016. After adjusting for potential confounding, compared to being without asthma, being with stable asthma was associated with a reduced risk of 28-day mortality (hazard ratio (HR) 0.65, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.44–0.97, p = 0.0335), but being with acute exacerbation asthma was toward an increased risk of 28-day mortality (HR 1.82, 95% 0.80–4.10, p = 0.1513). E-value analysis suggested robustness to unmeasured confounding. These findings suggest comorbid stable asthma is associated with a better prognosis in critically ill patients with severe sepsis, while acute exacerbation asthma is associated with worse prognosis. Background: Catheter-related thrombosis may lead to catheter infections and failure, further deep venous thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism. Recognizing the risk factors for catheter-related thrombosis is extremely important to inform the development of catheter care guidelines. Methods: Data were collected from a total of 1,532 patients who had undergone venous catheterization, including indwelling catheterization from 19 March 2019 to 30 March 2019 in the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital. The factors for which data were to be collected included the patients' physical characteristics, catheter-related factors, and catheter care-related factors. Logistic regression analysis, the chi-squared test, Fisher's exact test, and the t -test were used to analyze the data. Results: Of the 1,532 patients studied, 28 developed intraductal thrombi, and of the factors analyzed, malignancy, a catheterization history, a history of thrombophilia, surgery during the week before catheterization, the catheterization duration, and anticoagulant therapy were significant risk factors associated with catheter-related thrombosis (all p < 0.05). There were no significant associations between the catheter brand, the number of lumens, the insertion direction, or the factors associated with catheter care and catheter-related thrombosis (all p > 0.05). Conclusion: Our study incorporated clear and systematic risk factors associated with catheter-related thrombosis. Malignancy, history of thrombophilia, history of catheterization, surgery during the week before catheterization, and catheterization duration were associated with increased risks of catheter-related thrombosis. Background: This study investigated whether expanding waist circumference (WC) is causally associated with an elevated risk of coronary heart disease (CHD), using a two‐sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study through integrating summarized data from genome‐wide association study. Methods: The data included in this analysis were mainly from the Genetic Investigation of ANthropometric Traits (GIANT), Consortium and Coronary Artery Disease Genome wide Replication, and Meta‐analysis plus the Coronary Artery Disease (C4D) Genetics (CARDIoGRAMplusC4D) Consortium. Three statistical approaches, inverse‐variance weighted (IVW), weighted median, and MR‐Egger regression method were conducted to assess the casual relationship. The exposure was WC, measured by 46 single‐nucleotide polymorphisms from GIANT and the outcome was the risk of CHD. Then, we used the genetic data from Neale Lab and TAG to infer whether WC causally affected the established risk factors of CHD. Results: The IVW method presented that genetically predicted WC was positively casually associated with CHD (odds ratio [OR]: 1.57, 95% CI = 1.33–1.84; p = 4.81e‐08), which was consistent with the result of weighted median and MR‐Egger regression. MR‐Egger regression indicated that there was no directional horizontal pleiotropy to violate the MR assumption. Additionally, expanded WC was also associated with higher risk of hypertension and diabetes, higher cholesterol, more smoking intensity, and decreased frequency of physical activity. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between blood glucose within 24 hours after intensive care unit (ICU) admission and prognosis. Patients and Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using data from a large critical care database. Patients who had a length of ICU stay ≥ 24 hours and at least two blood glucose records within 24 hours after ICU admission were included and hospital mortality was chosen as the primary outcome. The average, minimum, and maximum blood glucose within 24 hours after ICU admission were a priori selected as exposures and associations between each exposure and outcomes were assessed after adjusted for potential confounders. Results: A total of  14,237 patients were included finally with an average age of 62.9± 17.7 years and a mean SAPS II on admission of 34 (26– 44). Among the study population, 20.2% (2872/14,237) had uncomplicated diabetes, and 6.7% (953/14,237) had complicated diabetes. Lowest hospital mortality rate was observed in the stratum with an average blood glucose ranged 110– 140 mg/dL, a minimum blood glucose ranged 80– 110 mg/dL, and a maximum blood glucose ranged 110– 140 mg/dL. After adjusted for confounders including age, sex, disease severity scores and comorbidities, an average blood glucose ranged  110– 140 mg/dL, a minimum blood glucose ranged 80– 110 mg/dL, and a maximum blood glucose ranged 110– 140 mg/dL were associated with the lowest risk of hospital mortality. Consistent results were found among patients without diabetes in the subgroup analyses stratified by diabetes. Conclusion: A range of 110– 140 mg/dL for average and maximum blood glucose and a range of 80– 110 mg/dL for minimum blood glucose within 24 hours after ICU admission predicted better prognosis especially among patients without diabetes. Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the association of serum uric acid on admission with long-term outcome of critically ill patients. Materials and methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using data extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III database. The primary endpoint was 90-day mortality. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed, and multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to adjust for potential confounders. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were also used to assess the mortality predictions. Results: A total of 2,123 patients were included finally with a PSM cohort consisting of 556 90-day non-survivors matched 1:1 with 556 90-day survivors. No statistically significant difference of median admission uric acid was observed between the two groups (survivors 5.50 mg/dL vs non-survivors 5.60 mg/dL, p=0.536). ROC area under the curve was 0.511 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.477–0.545), suggesting that uric acid had poor discriminative powers for predicting 90-day mortality. No significant association between uric acid and 90-day mortality was found (hazard ratio 1.00, 95% CI 0.98–1.03, p=0.6835). Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are of great concern given their potential influence on the endocrine system. In silico methods for the evaluation of EDCs have been widely recognized. However, subcellular molecular mechanisms of action, such as ligand-receptor interactions, receptor conformational switch and protein-protein interactions, are needed for the development of mechanism-based in silico models. Here, molecular mechanisms of action for steroid hormone receptors (SHRs), the important targets of EDCs, are systematically reviewed. Ligand binding and ligand-receptor interactions are required for SHR activation, and facilitate the nuclear translocation and the dimerization of SHRs. Coregulator recruitment results from conformational switch of SHR, which regulates the transcription and results in either an agonistic or an antagonistic effect. EDCs potentially interfere with SHRs by influencing ligand-receptor interactions, nuclear translocation, dimerization and coregulator recruitment. Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (pancreatic NETs), is an important cause of cancer-related death worldwide. No study has rigorously explored the impact of ethnicity on pancreatic NETs. We aimed to demonstrate the relationship between ethnicity and the survival of patients with pancreatic NETs. We used the SEER database to identify patients with pancreatic NETs from 2004 to 2013. Kaplan-Meier methods and Cox proportional hazard models were used to evaluate the impact of race on survival in pancreatic NETs patients. A total of 3850 patients were included: 3357 Non-Blacks, 493 Blacks. We stratified races as 'Black' and 'White/Other.' Blacks were more likely to be diagnosed with later stages of tumors ( P = 0.021). As for the treatment, the access to surgery seemed to be more limited in Blacks than non-Black patients ( P = 0.012). Compared with non-Black patients, Black patients have worse overall survival ( OS) ( HR = 1.17, 95% CI: 1.00-1.37, P = 0.046) and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors specific survival ( PNSS) ( HR = 1.22, 95% CI: 1.01-1.48, P = 0.044). Multivariate Cox analysis identified that disease extension at the time of diagnosis and surgical status contributed to the ethnical survival disparity. Black patients whose stages at diagnosis were localized had significantly worse OS ( HR = 2.09, 95% CI: 1.18-3.71, P = 0.011) and PNSS ( HR = 3.79, 95% CI: 1.62-8.82, P = 0.002). As for the patients who did not receive surgery, Blacks also have a worse OS ( HR = 1.18, 95% CI: 1.00-1.41, P = 0.045). The Black patients had both worse OS and PNSS compared to non-Black patients. The restricted utilization of surgery, and the advanced disease extension at the time of diagnosis are the possible contributors to poorer survival of Blacks with pancreatic NETs. Abstract Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors are relatively rare pancreatic neoplasms over the world. Investigations about molecular biology of PNETs are insufficient for nowadays. We aimed to explore the expression of messenger RNA and regulatory processes underlying pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors from different views. The expression profile of GSE73338 were downloaded, including samples with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. First, the Limma package was utilized to distinguish the differentially expressed messenger RNA. Gene Ontology classification and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis were performed to explore the functions and pathways of target genes. In addition, we constructed a protein-protein interaction network. NEK2, UBE2C, TOP2A and PPP1R1A were revealed with continuous genomic alterations in higher tumor stage. 91 up-regulated and 36 down-regulated genes were identified to be differentially expressed in malignant PNETs. Locomotory behavior was significantly enriched for biological processes of metastasis PNETs. GCGR and GNAS were identified as the hub of proteins in the protein-protein interaction sub-network of malignant PNETs. We showed the gene expression differences in PNETs according to different clinicopathological aspects. NEK2, UBE2C, TOP2A are positively associated with high tumor grade, and PPP1R1A negatively. GCGR and GNAS are regarded as the hub of the PPI sub-network. CXCR4 may affect the progression of PNETs via the CXCR4-CXCL12-CXCR7 chemokine receptor axis. However, more studies are required. Some hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (HO-PBDEs), that have been widely detected in the environment and tissues of humans and wildlife, bind to thyroid hormone (TH) receptor (TR) and can disrupt functioning of systems modulated by the TR. However, mechanisms of TH disrupting effects are still equivocal. Here, disruption of functions of TH modulated pathways by HO-PBDEs was evaluated by assays of competitive binding, coactivator recruitment, and proliferation of GH3 cells. In silico simulations considering effects of coregulators were carried out to investigate molecular mechanisms and to predict potencies for disrupting functions of the TH. Some HO-PBDEs were able to bind to TR with moderate affinities but were not agonists. In GH3 proliferation assays, 13 out of 16 HO-PBDEs were antagonists for the TH. In silico simulations of molecular dynamics revealed that coregulators were essential for identification of TH disruptors. Among HO-PBDEs, binding of passive antagonists induced repositioning of H12, blocking AF-2 (transactivation function 2) and preventing recruitment of the coactivator. Binding of active antagonists exposed the coregulator binding site, which tended to bind to the corepressor rather than the coactivator. The social network analysis has been actively applied in various tourist destinations, with a few studies on the tourism economic network structure of national parks. Taking the national parks in the Central Region of China as research objects, this study applies the modified gravity model to measure the strength of tourism economic connection. The social network analysis method (SNA) is used to analyze the network structure of tourism economic connection among national parks from the perspectives of overall network density, network centrality, and cohesive subgroups. The results show that the intensity of the tourism relationships among national parks in Central China is unbalanced in spatial distribution. The structure of tourism economic network presents a multi-core model. Lushan Mountain, Shaoshan, Wudang Mountain, and other national parks play a necessary role in the transmission of regional tourism economic elements. There are cohesive subgroups of connections among national parks, which are closely related to administrative divisions and regional cultural background. The subgroups of interior scenes in the same province are more closely related, and the degree of tourism integration still needs to be improved. Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) can act as agonists, antagonists or mixed agonists/antagonists toward estrogen receptor α (ERα) and glucocorticoid receptor (GR) in a tissue- and cell-specific manner. However, the activation/inhibition mechanism by which structurally different chemicals induce various types of disruption remain ambiguous. This unrevealed theory limited the in silico modeling of EDCs and the prioritization of potential EDCs for experimental testing. As a kind of chemical widely used in manufacture, bisphenols (BPs) have attracted great attentions on their potential endocrine disrupting effects. BPs used in this study exhibited pure agonistic, pure antagonistic or mixed agonistic/antagonistic activities toward ERα and/or GR. According to the mechanistic modeling, the pure agonistic and pure antagonistic activities were attributed to a single type of protein conformation induced by BPs-ERα and/or BPs-GR interactions, whereas the mixed agonistic/antagonistic activities were attributed to multiple conformations that concomitantly exist. After interacting with BPs, the active conformation recruits coactivator to induce agonistic activity and the blocked conformation inhibits coactivator to induce antagonistic activity, whereas the concomitantly-existing multiple conformations (active, blocked and competing conformations) recruit coactivator, recruit corepressor and/or inhibit coactivator to dually induce the agonistic and antagonistic activities. Therefore, the in silico modeling in this study can not only predict ERα and GR disrupting activities but also, especially, identify the potential mechanisms. This mechanistic study breaks the current bottleneck of computational toxicology and can be widely used to prioritize potential estrogen/glucocorticoid disruptor for experimental testing in both pre-clinic and clinic studies. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) can compete with endogenous hormones and bind to the orthosteric site of nuclear receptors (NRs), affecting normal endocrine system function and causing severe symptoms. Recently, a series of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) have been discovered to bind to the allosteric sites of NRs and induce similar effects. However, it remains unclear how diverse EDCs work in this new way. Therefore, we have systematically summarized the allosteric sites and underlying mechanisms based on existing studies, mainly regarding drugs belonging to the PPCP class. Advanced methods, classified as structural biology, biochemistry and computational simulation, together with their advantages and hurdles for allosteric site recognition and mechanism insight have also been described. Furthermore, we have highlighted two available strategies for virtual screening of numerous EDCs, relying on the structural features of allosteric sites and lead compounds, respectively. We aim to provide reliable theoretical and technical support for a broader view of various allosteric interactions between EDCs and NRs, and to drive high-throughput and accurate screening of potential EDCs with non-competitive effects. Jaboticaba is a tropical plant and its fruit rich in nutrients, volatile compounds, and biological activities, which considered to be an edible health benefits plant. Despite its popularity for fresh consumption, jaboticaba is rarely used in intensive processing in China. The content of nutrients and antioxidant in jaboticaba greatly impacts how it is processed healthy food. In this study, we evaluated the nutrients, antioxidant capacity, and volatile compounds of three jaboticaba cultivars including Sabara, Argentina, and Fukuoka, respectively. Our results revealed each variety has its merits. Background: It has been observed that cancer and venous thromboembolism (VTE) are associated, but anticancer therapy may violate the causality. Therefore, this study aimed to elucidate the causal relationship of various cancers to VTE using Mendelian randomization (MR)., Methods: Three MR methods were used to estimate causal effects: Inverse variance weighted (IVW), MR-Egger and weighted median. Sensitivity analyses included Cochran's Q -test, MR-Egger intercept test and MR-PRESSO. Gene ontology enrichment analysis was performed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of VTE development in cancer patients., Results: The primary IVW approach showed that non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) might increase the risk of VTE (odds ratio [OR]: 1.20, 95% confidence interval [95% CI]: 1.00-1.44, p  = 0.045), while melanoma possibly reduced the risk of VTE (OR: 0.89, 95% CI: 0.82-0.97, p  = 0.006), although there was no significance after adjustment for multiple testing. No association was observed between VTE risk and other site-specific cancers. Gene ontology enrichment analysis revealed that vitamin D played an important role in the development of VTE in cancer patients., Conclusions: Our findings suggested that genetically predicted NHL was associated with higher VTE risk, whereas melanoma had lower VTE risk compared with other site-specific cancers. The haptophyte Isochrysis galbana is considered as a promising source for food supplements due to its rich fucoxanthin and polyunsaturated fatty acids content. Here, the I. galbana mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) was sequenced using a combination of Illumina and PacBio sequencing platforms. This 39,258 bp circular mitogenome has a total of 46 genes, including 20 protein-coding genes, 24 tRNA genes and two rRNA genes. A large block of repeats (~12.7 kb) was segregated in one region of the mitogenome, accounting for almost one third of the total size. A trans -spliced gene cox1 was first identified in I. galbana mitogenome and was verified by RNA-seq and DNA-seq data. The massive expansion of tandem repeat size and cis - to trans -splicing shift could be explained by the high mitogenome rearrangement rates in haptophytes. Strict SNP calling based on deep transcriptome sequencing data suggested the lack of RNA editing in both organelles in this species, consistent with previous studies in other algal lineages. To gain insight into haptophyte mitogenome evolution, a comparative analysis of mitogenomes within haptophytes and among eight main algal lineages was performed. A core gene set of 15 energy and metabolism genes is present in haptophyte mitogenomes, consisting of 1 cob , 3 cox , 7 nad , 2 atp and 2 ribosomal genes. Gene content and order was poorly conserved in this lineage. Haptophyte mitogenomes have lost many functional genes found in many other eukaryotes including rps / rpl , sdh , tat , secY genes, which make it contain the smallest gene set among all algal taxa. All these implied the rapid-evolving and more recently evolved mitogenomes of haptophytes compared to other algal lineages. The phylogenetic tree constructed by cox1 genes of 204 algal mitogenomes yielded well-resolved internal relationships, providing new evidence for red-lineages that contained plastids of red algal secondary endosymbiotic origin. It has been widely reported that the serum anion gap is significantly associated with mortality in intensive care unit (ICU); however, it remains unknown whether the association is present in aortic aneurysm (AA) patients. The present study aimed to investigate the association between the admission serum anion gap and ICU mortality in AA patients. Data extracted from a publicly accessible clinical database using a modifiable data mining technique were analyzed retrospectively, mainly by employing multivariable logistic regression analysis. The primary study outcome was ICU mortality. A total of 273 patient records were analyzed. The ICU mortality was 8.79% (24/273). The median serum anion gap was significantly higher in non-survivors [17.50 mEq/l, interquartile range (IQR) 15.75-22.50 mEq/l] compared with survivors [13.00 mEq/l, IQR 11.00-15.00 mEq/l, P<0.001]. Multivariate analysis resulted in identification of a clear association between admission serum anion gap and ICU mortality in AA patients [odds ratio (OR) 1.38 per 1 mEq/l increase, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.08-1.76]. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve showed an outstanding discrimination ability in predicting ICU mortality (area under curve 0.8513, 95% CI 0.7698-0.9328). In conclusion, admission serum anion gap may serve as a strong predictor of ICU mortality for AA patients.

A tiered screening strategy based on extensive virtual fractionation and elucidation was developed to simplify identification of toxicants in complex environments. In tier1-virtual fractionation, multivariate analysis (MVA) was set up as an alternative of physical fractionation. In tier2-virtual structure elucidation, in-house quantitative structure-retention relationship (QSRR) models and toxicity simulation methods were developed to simplify nontarget identification. The efficiency of the tiered virtual strategy was tentatively verified by soil samples from a chemical park contaminated by antiandrogenic substances. Eight out of 18 sites were detected as antiandrogenic, while none of them exhibited androgenic agonist potencies. Sixty-seven peaks were selected for further identification by MVA, among which over 90% were verified in androgenic fractions in traditional effect-directed analysis (EDA). With 579 tentative structures generated by in silico fragmentation, 74% were elucidated by QSRR and 65% were elucidated by in silico toxicity prediction. All prior peaks were identified at different confidence levels with over 40% of the identified peaks above confidence level 2b, which has been increased over 40% with less than half of the time spent compared to traditional EDA. Such a combination of tiered virtual screening methods provides more efficient and rapid identifications of key toxicants at contaminated sites.

Stroke is one of the most common causes of death, only second to heart disease. Molecular investigations about stroke are in acute shortage nowadays. This study is intended to explore a gene expression profile after brain ischemia reperfusion. Meta-analysis, differential expression analysis, and integrated analysis were employed on an eight microarray series. We explored the functions and pathways of target genes in gene ontology (GO) enrichment analysis and constructed a protein-protein interaction network. Meta-analysis identified 360 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) for Mus musculus and 255 for Rattus norvegicus. Differential expression analysis identified 44 DEGs for Mus musculus and 21 for Rattus norvegicus. Timp1 and Lcn2 were overexpressed in both species. The cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction and chemokine signaling pathway were highly enriched for the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway. We have exhibited a global view of the potential molecular differences between middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) animal model and sham for Mus musculus or Rattus norvegicus, including the biological process and enriched pathways in DEGs. This research helps contribute to a clearer understanding of the inflammation process and accurate identification of ischemic infarction stages, which might be transformed into a therapeutic approach.
