The continuous development of Educational Data Mining (EDM) and Learning Analytics (LA) technologies has provided more effective technical support for accurate early warning and interventions for student academic performance. However, the existing body of research on EDM and LA needs more empirical studies that provide feedback interventions, and more attention should be paid to primary and secondary school students. This study proposed a data-driven precision teaching intervention mechanism combining EDM and LA technologies. The proposed mechanism aims to assist teachers in predicting students' academic performance and implementing corresponding interventions. This approach enables early warnings and reminders for students in crisis, and offers teaching assistance and support tailored to students at different levels. A quasi-experimental design was employed to examine the impact of the data-driven precision teaching intervention mechanism on secondary school students' learning outcomes. A total of 142 seventh-grade students participated in the intervention experiment, with an experimental group (50) receiving the data-driven precision teaching intervention, control group2 (48) receiving a group intervention stratified by teacher experience, and control group1 (44) receiving a traditional group intervention. Posttest data were collected after three rounds of intervention. Compared to the two control groups, students in the experimental group demonstrated superior academic achievement, intrinsic motivation, self-efficacy, and meta-cognitive awareness. These findings indicate that the data-driven precision teaching intervention approach positively impacted students' academic development, and effectively promoted their personalized learning. The findings provide pedagogical insights into the application of EDM in conjunction with LA prediction and actionable interventions.

Divergence of cis-regulatory elements drives species-specific traits1, but how this manifests in the evolution of the neocortex at the molecular and cellular level remains unclear. Here we investigated the gene regulatory programs in the primary motor cortex of human, macaque, marmoset and mouse using single-cell multiomics assays, generating gene expression, chromatin accessibility, DNA methylome and chromosomal conformation profiles from a total of over 200,000 cells. From these data, we show evidence that divergence of transcription factor expression corresponds to species-specific epigenome landscapes. We find that conserved and divergent gene regulatory features are reflected in the evolution of the three-dimensional genome. Transposable elements contribute to nearly 80% of the human-specific candidate cis-regulatory elements in cortical cells. Through machine learning, we develop sequence-based predictors of candidate cis-regulatory elements in different species and demonstrate that the genomic regulatory syntax is highly preserved from rodents to primates. Finally, we show that epigenetic conservation combined with sequence similarity helps to uncover functional cis-regulatory elements and enhances our ability to interpret genetic variants contributing to neurological disease and traits.

Abstract Background This study aims to assess the performance of an established an AI algorithm trained on conventional polychromatic computed tomography (CT) images (CPIs) to detect pulmonary ground-glass nodules (GGNs) on virtual monochromatic images (VMIs), and to screen the optimal virtual monochromatic energy for the clinical evaluation of GGNs. Methods Non-enhanced chest SDCT images of patients with pulmonary GGNs in our clinic from January 2022 to December 2022 were continuously collected: adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS, n = 40); minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA, n = 44) and invasive adenocarcinoma (IAC, n = 46). A commercial CAD system based on deep convolutional neural networks (DL-CAD) was used to process the CPIs, 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80 keV monochromatic images of 130 spectral CT images. AI-based histogram parameters by logistic regression analysis. The diagnostic performance was evaluated by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, and Delong’s test was used to compare the CPIs group with the VMIs group. Results When distinguishing IAC from MIA, the diagnostic efficiency of total mass was obtained at 80 keV, which was superior to those of other energy levels (P 0.05). Conclusion The AI algorithm trained on CPIs showed consistent diagnostic performance on VMIs. When pulmonary GGNs are encountered in clinical practice, 80 keV could be the optimal virtual monochromatic energy for the identification of preoperative IAC on a non-enhanced chest CT.

Abstract The impact of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) traits on suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs) remains inadequately explored. Hence, the present study aims to delve deeper into these intricate issues, contributing to a better understanding of these complex challenges among Chinese youth. The data of 90,882 participants was collected from 63 Chinese universities and colleges in Jilin, China. We aim to explore the risks of STBs on ASD, ADHD, and co-occurrence of ASD + ADHD by using the Autism Spectrum Quotient-10 items (AQ-10) and Adult ADHD Self Report Scale (ASRS). Propensity score matching (PSM) was implemented to balance demographical variables across the four groups. Binary logistic regression was then conducted to further analyze and compare suicide risk across the four groups, also accounting for sex differences. We previously reported Paired-Tag, a combinatorial indexing-based method that can simultaneously map histone modifications and gene expression at single-cell resolution at scale. However, the lengthy procedure of Paired-Tag has hindered its general adoption in the community. To address this bottleneck, we developed a droplet-based Paired-Tag protocol that is faster and more accessible than the previous method. Using cultured mammalian cells and primary brain tissues, we demonstrate its superior performance at identifying candidate cis-regulatory elements and associating their dynamic chromatin state to target gene expression in each constituent cell type in a complex tissue.

Abstract The effectiveness and longevity of IoT infrastructures heavily depend on the limitations posed by communication, multi-hop data transfers, and the inherent difficulties of wireless links. In dealing with these challenges, routing, and data transmission procedures are critical. Among the fundamental concerns are the attainment of energy efficiency and an ideal distribution of loads among sensing devices, given the restricted energy resources at the disposal of IoT devices. To meet these challenges, the present research suggests a novel hybrid energy-aware IoT routing approach that mixes the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm and fuzzy clustering. The approach begins with a fuzzy clustering algorithm to initially group sensor nodes by their geographical location and assign them to clusters determined by a certain probability. The proposed method includes a fitness function considering energy consumption and distance factors. This feature guides the optimization process and aims to balance energy efficiency and data transmission distance. The hierarchical topology uses the advanced PSO algorithm to identify the cluster head nodes. The MATLAB simulator shows that our method outperforms previous approaches. Various metrics have demonstrated significant improvements over DEEC and LEACH. The method reduces energy consumption by 52% and 16%, improves throughput by 112% and 10%, increases packet delivery rates by 83% and 15%, and extends the network lifespan by 48% and 27%, respectively, compared to DEEC and LEACH approaches.

Ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) is a valuable plant resource which has been used for centuries as both food and traditional Chinese medicine. It is popular in health research and markets globally. Fresh ginseng has a high moisture content and is prone to mold and rot, reducing its nutritional value without proper preservation. Drying treatments are effective for maintaining the beneficial properties of ginseng post-harvest. In this study, we investigated the effects of natural air drying (ND), hot-air drying (HAD), vacuum drying (VD), microwave vacuum drying (MVD), and vacuum freeze drying (VFD) on volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in ginseng. The results showed that the MVD time was the shortest, followed by the VFD, VD, and HAD times, whereas the ND time was the longest, but the VFD is the most beneficial to the appearance and color retention of ginseng. A total of 72 VOCs were obtained and 68 VOCs were identified using the five drying methods based on gas chromatography–ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS) technology, including 23 aldehydes, 19 alkenes, 10 alcohols, 10 ketones, 4 esters, 1 furan, and 1 pyrazine, and the ND method was the best for retaining VOCs. GC-IMS fingerprints, principal component analysis (PCA), Euclidean distance analysis, partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), and cluster analysis (CA) can distinguish ginseng from different drying methods. A total of 29 VOCs can be used as the main characteristic markers of different drying methods in ginseng. Overall, our findings provide scientific theoretical guidance for optimizing ginseng’s drying methods, aromatic health effects, and flavor quality research.
