Anti-inflammatory agents may be alternatives for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Then, we propose the nanotechnology as a strategy to curcumin and meloxicam co-nanoencapsulation for neurodegenerative diseases treatment. In this study, we developed and validated an analytical method by HPLC-DAD for simultaneous quantification of curcumin and meloxicam in the same formulation. We applied this method to characterize curcumin, meloxican and curcumin plus meloxican loaded lipid-core nanocapsules (LNC): drug content, encapsulation efficiency, photostability and drug's distribution. Additionally, toxicity levels of the nanoparticles were evaluated in vivo (mice). Therefore a C18-RP column was used with a guard column packed with the same material as the stationary phase. Acetonitrile: methanol: water: triethylamine (52:5:43:0.3 v/v/v/v), was used as the mobile phase in the 1 mL min−1 flow. Detection was 424 nm (curcumin) and 365 nm (meloxicam). The method was established in accordance with the current national and international guidelines, showing good linearity (r2 > 0.999). The formulations showed exclusively nanosized particles, negative zeta potential and slightly acidic pH, with content and encapsulation rate close to 100%. The distributions of meloxicam and curcumin in the LNC (alone or co-encapsulated) were type III and type VI, respectively. LNC were able to protect both drugs against UVA degradation. In vivo experiments showed no toxicity in relation to the parameters determined of all LNC evaluated in mice. In this work, we showed the possibility to carry meloxicam and curcumin in LNC with good technological characteristics and without toxicity in vivo with prospects for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease in sequential pharmacological studies. O presente artigo visa analisar a hipótese de transição hegemônica mundial a partir do declínio relativo dos Estados Unidos e da ascensão anti-imperialista da China, baseada no conceito chinês de Tiānxià (天下). Utilizando-se do método empírico-dedutivo, o objetivo principal é demonstrar que esse processo de longa duração vem se acelerando no século XXI. Considera-se como variável independente a crise da globalização neoliberal, que possibilita vislumbrar uma transfiguração sistêmica a partir de aspectos relacionados à resiliência chinesa, principalmente após a pandemia da Covid-19. Desta forma, busca-se demonstrar que a China se apresenta como alternativa concreta ao neoliberalismo financeirizado ao alocar o embrionário Estado coletivista como centro da sua estrutura de reprodução econômica.

O presente artigo busca delinear e debater a hipótese da importância latinoamericana para a recentralização asiática – ou reorientalização – no sistema-mundo. A partir da perspectiva da longa duração, busca-se apresentar a dualidade de um sistemamundo milenar centrado na Ásia e a ascensão de um sistema-mundo europeu no século XVI. Assim, a periferização asiática diante do apogeu do sistema-mundo capitalista europeu a partir da Revolução Industrial começa a ser revertida no final do século XX, cujo eixo gravitacional é recentralizado para o sudeste asiático, influenciado pela China. No contexto do século XXI, a importância da América Latina neste processo se faz presente, constatada a partir da crescente presença chinesa nas relações políticas, econômicas e comerciais com os países latino-americanos.

The present study aimed to investigate the interaction between the blood cells, inflammatory markers, oxidative stress parameters and delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) after a session of resistance exercise (SRE). The sample consisted of sixteen untrained men (26.4±5 years; 25.9±3 kg m-2). The SRE was composed of 4 sets of 10 repetitions maximum (extensor bench, squat and leg press) for each exercise. Complete blood cell count, C-reactive protein (CRP), creatine kinase (CK), lipid peroxidation and antioxidant capacity against peroxyl radicals were previously evaluated (baseline), and at 0, 30 and 120 min. after the SRE. DOMS was assessed 24 hours after the exercises. Immediately after the SRE, an increase of blood cell number was observed; returning to baseline after 30 min. However, after 120 min., neutrophils showed higher values than the baseline and 30 min. assessments. CK and CRP increased progressively throughout the experiment. LPO increased immediately and 120 min. after the SRE. Untrained volunteers presented an apparent biphasic inflammatory response after an acute SRE and the changes in oxidative stress, inflammatory markers and leukocytosis were best evidenced two hours after exercise.

The article evaluates the trajectory of the Brazilian economy since the 1980's and the dimensions that it has reached under the Lula government. It indicates the internal power structures that were created in this period and that shift the axis of accumulation to the financial sector. It indicates that the financial hegemony contradicts the new phase of expansion of global capitalism begun in 1994, which led to a contrast between Brazil's very low growth rates - and accelerating growth of the world economy. It finally indicates that one of the challenges of the Lula government to meet the social expectations that it had created, is to break with this hegemony in order to stimulate development and inclusion.

In this study, a sensitive HPLC-UV assay was developed and validated for the determination of LASSBio-1736 in rat plasma with sodium diclofenac as internal standard (IS). Liquid-liquid extraction using acetonitrile was employed to extract LASSBio-1736 and IS from 100 μL of plasma previously basified with NaOH 0.1 M. Chromatographic separation was carried on Waters Spherisorb®S5 ODS2 C18 column (150 × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) using an isocratic mobile phase composed by water with triethylamine 0.3% (pH 4), methanol and acetonitrile grade (45:15:40, v/v/v) at a flow rate of 1 mL/min. Both LASSBio-1736 and IS were eluted at 4.2 and 5 min, respectively, with a total run time of 8 min only. The lower limit of quantification was 0.2 μg/mL and linearity between 0.2 and 4 μg/mL was obtained, with an R2 > 0.99. The accuracy of the method was >90.5%. The relative standard deviations intra and interday were <6.19 and <7.83%, respectively. The method showed the sensitivity, linearity, precision, accuracy and selectivity required to quantify LASSBio-1736 in preclinical pharmacokinetic studies according to the criteria established by the US Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agency.
