Recently, photothermoelectric effect of thermoelectric materials has been hotly explored to develop self-powered and large bandwidth photodetectors working at ambient conditions. However, the key parameters for optimized photothermoelectric effect are still elusive. Here, based on the two-temperature model under static condition, we theoretically studied the key parameters to optimize the photothermoelectric performance of thermoelectric materials. Results verify that when the incident electromagnetic wave only generates electronic intra-band excitation, there is an ideal carrier concentration to optimize the photothermoelectric voltage; when the wavelength of a detected electromagnetic wave can resonantly excite quasi-particle (like phonons) except electrons, the photothermoelectric voltage can be enhanced significantly around the resonant wavelength regime; and when the electronic inter-band transition can be excited by an electromagnetic wave, photothermoelectric voltage is significantly increased due to the high optical absorption. As an example, the theoretical dependence of the photothermoelectric voltage of SnSe on wavelength is in line with the experimental result. Traditional Chinese medicine, as a high-quality natural medicine, contains a variety of active components and has been widely used in the animal production industry. The use of natural, green, and safe traditional Chinese medicine to replace hormones, antibiotics, and other drugs can effectively reduce the residue of drugs in animals, decrease the production of drug-resistant strains, and improve feed utilization. Oxymatrine, extracted from the Sophora flavescens, a plant in the Fabaceae family, is a monomer of traditional Chinese medicine with various pharmacological effects such as anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-fibrosis, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. It can enhance animal immunity and improve growth performance. This article summarizes the physicochemical properties, biological functions, and research progress of oxymatrine in animal production, providing a reference for the effective use of matrine. The recent discovery of anti‐chiral edge states in magnetic semimetals linking two unequal‐frequency bulk Dirac nodes manifests a paradoxical picture in contrast to the chiral behavior in Chern insulators, implying an untapped phase may exist. Here, a unique Chern metal, exhibiting a nontrivial Chern number but without a complete bandgap is proposed, and the complete topological phase diagram in the modified Haldane model is obtained. Subsequently, the Chern metal in a 2D honeycomb‐lattice gyromagnetic photonic crystal by simultaneously breaking parity and time‐reversal symmetries with opposite and unequal magnetic biases at different sublattices is realized. For the paired complementary‐shape boundaries, such as zigzag/bearded, it is experimentally revealed that either clockwise or counter‐clockwise chiral character is switchable in Chern metals relying on different boundary choices, a remarkable property deemed as bi‐chiral edge propagation. The topological Chern metal with hidden bulk‐boundary correspondence is articulated to bridge the chiral and anti‐chiral paradox gap between Chern insulators and magnetic semimetals. The origin of the large thermopower in NaxCoO2 is complicated by correlation phenomena. To disentangle the effects from multiple interactions, we use angle-resolved photoemission to study KxRhO2, an isostructural analogy of NaxCoO2 with large thermopower and weak electron correlation. Using the experimentally measured electronic structure, we demonstrate that the thermopower in KxRhO2 can be quantitatively explained within the quasiparticle framework after including an electron-phonon mass enhancement effect. Extending the analysis to the cobaltate, we find the doubling in thermopower is well accounted for by additional band renormalization from electron correlation. As such, the large thermopower emerges from the itinerant quasiparticles dressed by hierarchical electron-phonon and electron-electron interactions.

We explored the coupling between magnetic and magneto-transport properties in MnBi2Te4 crystals with Fermi energy EF ranging from 10 to 100 meV in the conduction band. Electrical, magnetic, and magneto-transport measurements reveal distinct behaviors depending on EF. At lower EF values (10 meV), MnBi2Te4 exhibits degenerate-semiconductor-like electrical transport and ferrimagnetism, with weak coupling between magneto-resistance and ferrimagnetism. In contrast, MnBi2Te4 displays metallic transport and antiferromagnetism (AFM) at higher Fermi energies, with magneto-resistance strongly coupled to antiferromagnetism and canted antiferromagnetism under a large external magnetic field. Remarkably, Hall measurements demonstrate a pronounced anomalous Hall resistivity (AHR) when the EF of MnBi2Te4 is 10 meV, larger than that reported for other bulk MnBi2Te4 crystals in the literature. Significant AHR is attributed to the Berry-phase effect in electronic-band structure based on first-principles calculation. The evolution of magnetic and magneto-transport properties in EF shifted MnBi2Te4 can be semi-quantitatively explained by the Ruderman–Kittel–Kasuya–Yosida interaction between neighboring MnTe layers. Our work suggests that the strongly Fermi-energy-sensitive magneto-transport properties observed in MnBi2Te4 may be useful in developing magnetic sensors/detectors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Graphyne has recently attracted much attention since it is an important derivative of graphene with unique topological properties. Although graphyne is not a conventional topological insulator because of its weak spin–orbit coupling, it is a real Chern topological insulator with the higher-order topology. However, it lacks a realistic model. Here, we propose a schedule to realize acoustic graphyne. By introducing negative coupling to simulate the carbon–carbon triple bond, we realize the transition from trivial to higher-order topological phases, characterized by real Chern numbers. These topologically protected corner states are achieved in a finite-size sample, and the condition for their existence is discussed. Our research extends the concept of real Chern insulators and provides a platform for studying the topological properties of graphene-like structural compounds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We experimentally demonstrated that composites, being effective in optimizing the thermoelectric performance, can also enhance photothermoelectric effects in this work. In detail, we employed an alternating-growth in chemical-vapor-transport to grow the SnSe–SnSe2 composite crystals. The photo-responsivities of SnSe–SnSe2 (atomic-weight-ratio as 44%–56%) composite are comparable to SnSe crystals in the visible band (444 and 532 nm). However, the responsivities of SnSe–SnSe2 have remarkable 27.3% enhancement than those of SnSe crystal at the near-infrared band (1310 and 1550 nm). Supported by optical spectroscopy and theoretical electronic band structure, the enhanced optical responsivity of SnSe–SnSe2 composites is due to the formation of P–N junctions at interfaces between SnSe and SnSe2, leading to more optical transition channels and corresponding optical absorptions in near-infrared band. Our work verifies that hetero-junction formed among constituent compounds in composites is effective in optimizing the photothermoelectric response of thermoelectric materials in certain electromagnetic bands, paving the way to develop photoelectric detection devices. In this study, gold nanocubes (AuNCs) were quickly synthesized using the seed-mediated growth method and reduced onto the surface of two-dimensional (2D) delaminated nano mica platelets (NMPs), enabling the development of AuNCs/NMPs nanohybrids with a 3D lightning-rod effect. First, the growth-solution amount can be changed to easily adjust the AuNCs average-particle size within a range of 30–70 nm. The use of the cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium chloride as a protective agent allowed the surface of AuNCs and nanohybrids to be positively charged. Positively charged nanohybrid surfaces presented a good adsorption effect for detecting molecules with negative charges on the surface. Additionally, the NMP surfaces were rich in ionic charges and provided a large specific surface area for stabilizing the growth of AuNCs. Delaminated AuNCs/NMPs nanohybrids can generate a 3D hotspot effect through self-assembly to enhance the Raman signal. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is highly sensitive in detecting adenine biomolecules. Its limit of detection (LOD) and Raman enhancement factor reached 10−9 M and 3.6 × 108, respectively. Excellent reproducibility was obtained owing to the relatively regular arrangement of AuNC particles, and the relative standard deviation (RSD) was 10.7%. Finally, the surface of NMPs was modified by adding the hydrophilic poly(oxyethylene)-diamine (POE2000) and amphiphilic PIB–POE–PIB copolymer at different weight ratios. The adjustment of the surface hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity of AuNCs/NMPs nanohybrids led to better adsorption and selectivity for bacteria. AuNCs/POE/NMPs and AuNCs/PIB–POE–PIB/NMPs were further applied to the SERS detection of hydrophilic Staphylococcus aureus and hydrophobic Escherichia coli, respectively. The SERS-detection results suggest that the LOD of hydrophilic Staphylococcus aureus and hydrophobic Escherichia coli reached 92 CFU mL−1 and 1.6 × 102 CFU mL−1, respectively. The AuNCs/POE/NMPs and AuNCs/PIB–POE–PIB/NMPs nanohybrids had different hydrophilic–hydrophobic affinities, which greatly improved the selectivity and sensitivity for detecting bacteria with different hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity. Erbium (Er)‐doped III‐V semiconductors are promising for optoelectronic devices due to the unique intra‐4f electronic transitions of Er3+; however, the Er‐related luminescence at room temperature has always been challenging to obtain. In this work, High crystalline quality ErAs:GaAs films are grown with self‐assembled ErAs nanoparticles embedded within the GaAs matrix by molecular beam epitaxy. Rich photoluminescence spectra in a broad wavelength ranging from near‐ultraviolet to near‐infrared are observed at room temperature and confirmed to be Er‐related. A carrier‐mediated energy transfer up‐conversion mechanism is proposed, and the pump power‐dependent photoluminescence results reveal that the excited‐state absorption is governed by a single photonic process. The efficient interaction and energy transfer between the semiconductor matrix and Er3+ ions offered by this unique nanocomposite material provide a promising route to achieve novel optoelectronic devices with the potential to cover a broad wavelength range.
