Despite being an established practice in Higher Education (HE), the collection of feedback from students, to improve their university experience, has yet to find a unified format. Literature shows that, besides enabling collection of data on aspects of the university journey, feedback collection should also be an engaging experience for students and translate into a learning opportunity. To facilitate students' engagement and enhance their role as shapers of their HE experience, we propose an innovative method for the collection of student feedback that leverages the potential of Design Thinking. Our method was tested in two design-led workshops for 59 Master students in a Business School in the UK. The workshops, a blend of content delivery, and individual and team activities, were framed around designing the university of the future. Introduced and concluded by two purpose-built surveys, the workshops were organised in problem-framing; ideas generation; and prototyping. Enthusiastically welcomed by participants as a unique way to co-design their HE journey, the workshops achieved the triple objective of collecting rich data on student feedback; increasing engagement in participants; and delivering notions about design thinking. In this paper, we report on the workshops and share details for our method to be replicated.

In this role-playing teaching case, students impersonate Selective Consulting, a fictitious, Australian-based company tasked with assessing the information security practices of SkillPlat, a provider of apprenticeship and traineeship services. The case develops around the one-week visit paid by Selective Consulting to SkillPlat's headquarters, during which the consultants identify several issues that denote poor information security management practices by the company. After analysing the case materials (the main text, plus seven exhibits), students write a report in which they assess the pros and cons of SkillPlat's information security management practices, offer recommendations for improvement, and indicate other sources of information that could be useful for a more detailed analysis. The report is expected to cover various topics in information security management: policies, user behaviours/human factors, governance, security practices, risk management, physical security, protection of personally identifiable information and privacy, organisational culture, etc. This teaching case has been successfully utilised with two cohorts of Master students as an assessment piece, at the end of a course on cybersecurity management. The present case requires students to offer solid arguments in favour of their assessment and recommendations, tapping into their knowledge of the subject and external resources (e.g., industry reports, academic papers, etc.). This Teaching Case needs to be accompanied by its Teaching Notes.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to address the generalised lack of guidance on ethical treatment of corporate (e.g. non-research) data in higher education institutions, by focusing on the case of the University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia). No actionable framework is currently available in the country to govern the ethical usage of corporate data. As such, this research takes a stakeholder-centred approach to data ethics; the lived experience of the stakeholders involved coupled with a theory-based ethical framework allowed the authors build to build a framework to guide ethical data practice. Design/methodology/approach: Adopting a revised canonical action research approach focused on intervention on the context, the authors conducted a review of the literature on ethical usage of data in higher education institutions; administered one survey to university students (n = 168); and facilitated three workshops with professional staff (two) and students (one). Findings: Collected data highlighted how, among other themes, the role and ethical importance of transparency was the dominant claim among all stakeholder groups. Findings helped the authors develop an Enhanced Enterprise Data Ethics Framework (EEDEF) emphasising transparency and stakeholder-centricity. Practical implications: Legislation is the driver to regulate the use of corporate data in higher education; however, this can be problematic because legislation is retrospective, lacks normativity and offers scarce directions for cases that do not exactly follow within the legislative mandate. In light of these regulatory limitations, the authors' EEDEF offers operators guidance on how to ethically manage corporate data in the higher education environment. Originality/value: This study fills gaps in praxis and theory; that is the lack of literature and guiding ethical frameworks to inform data practice in higher education. This research fosters a more ethical data management by virtue of genuine and authentic engagement with stakeholders and emphasises the importance of strategic decision-making and maturity of data culture in the higher education sector. We use new survey data from 1,203 households in rural Eastern India to estimate cross-sectional models of overall energy use and embedded emissions. Findings indicate that the primary driver of household energy use is household size and affluence. This is unsurprising and consistent with findings from the engineering literature on energy demand. However, there is also a substantial and significant moderating influence of skills on energy use. For emissions, we observe a bifurcated relationship in line with educational attainment. For those that have completed secondary education or more, skills are negatively associated with energy use and emissions, whereas for those with lesser qualifications more skills are associated with more energy use and emissions. The results are consistent with the environmental Kuznets curve, which implies that a critical level of affluence is required before environmental impacts start lessening. The results also echo a sociological critique of human capital theory − that individual abilities are not productive in and of themselves, but rather in relation to socially determined opportunity structures. This paper presents a framework of knowledge risk management in the face of the COVID‐19 crisis, derived from the literature on knowledge management, knowledge security, and COVID‐19. So far, both researchers and practitioners have focused on knowledge as an asset and their efforts have been aimed at the implementation of knowledge management in various organizational contexts. However, with increasing threats related to cyberattacks or hazards associated with knowledge loss (as magnified by the COVID‐19 crisis), there is a growing need to account for knowledge‐related risks. In this conceptual paper, we integrate the contributions from the knowledge management and knowledge security fields, together with research on COVID‐19 to help organizations protect the knowledge they create, store and share. Based on a structured literature review, our investigation provides researchers and managers with a framework for securely handling organizational knowledge in a critical situation. Our framework revolves around two foci: one the one hand, building appropriate knowledge risk measures and controls; on the other hand, holistically tackling knowledge risks as part of knowledge management activities. Global, national and regional sport organizations heavily rely on logistics management practices in their operations. However, scientific research in sports logistics is in its infancy, with conceptualizations of the sport logistics domain proposed only recently. In response and by using a reoccurring professional sport event as a case, this study applies the Sports Logistics Framework (SLF) to systematically assess logistics activities, organizational structures, resources and components. Based on semi-structured interviews, unstructured participant observation, internal documents and additional secondary data, our findings not only provide insights into the logistics operations behind a matchday of one of the leading and most valuable sport competitions in the world, but also contextualize, illustrate and refine the logistical tasks of the SLF, thereby providing a template which can be used for further comparison and examination of logistics activities at similar sport events. International airports are complex sociotechnical systems that have an intrinsic potential to develop safety and security disruptions. In the absence of appropriate defenses, and when the potential for disruption is neglected, organizational crises can occur and jeopardize aviation services. This investigation examines the ways in which modern international airports can be "authors of their own misfortune" by adopting practices, attitudes, and behaviors that could increase their overall level of vulnerability. A sociotechnical perspective, the macroergonomic approach, is applied in this research to detect the potential organizational determinants of vulnerability in airport operations. Qualitative data nurture the case study on international airports produced by the present research. Findings from this study highlight that systemic weaknesses frequently reside in areas at the intersection of physical, organizational, and social spaces. Specific pathways of vulnerability can be drawn across these areas, involving the following systemic layers: individual, task, tools and technology, environment, and organization. This investigation expands the existing literature on the dynamics that characterize crisis incubation in multiorganization, multistakeholder systems such as international airports and provides practical recommendations for airport managers to improve their capabilities to early detect symptoms of organizational vulnerability.
