The future circular collider (FCC) is a cutting-edge particle accelerator being planned by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). It is designed to delve deeper into the mysteries of the universe than its predecessor, the large hadron collider (LHC). With a circumference of over 80 km, the FCC requires a reliable and efficient power transmission network to operate smoothly. The available power options for the FCC include a high-voltage dc transmission and radio frequency powering networks based on HVdc converters, such as the modular multilevel power converters or the 12-pulse thyristor rectifiers, each providing several benefits in power transmission efficiency and cost-effectiveness. However, the converter selection, its control, and the protection aspects must be carefully designed to meet the unique requirements of the installation. This article examines different dc powering scenarios for the FCC and proposes a control and protection scheme compatible with the accelerator's operation mode. This approach ensures that the power system meets the FCC's specific needs and operates safely and effectively. The validity of the proposed control and protection strategies is verified by means of detailed computer simulations.

Around one-third of epilepsy patients develop drug-resistant seizures; early detection of seizures could help improve safety, reduce patient anxiety, increase independence, and enable acute treatment. In recent years, the use of artificial intelligence techniques and machine learning algorithms in different diseases, including epilepsy, has increased significantly. The main objective of this study is to determine whether the mjn-SERAS artificial intelligence algorithm developed by MJN Neuroserveis, can detect seizures early using patient-specific data to create a personalized mathematical model based on EEG training, defined as the programmed recognition of oncoming seizures before they are primarily initiated, usually within a period of a few minutes, in patients diagnosed of epilepsy. Immunosuppressive drugs are widely used to treat several autoimmune disorders and prevent rejection after organ transplantation. However, intra-individual variations in the pharmacological response to immunosuppressive therapy critically influence its efficacy, often resulting in poor treatment responses and serious side effects. Effective diagnostic tools that help clinicians to tailor immunosuppressive therapy to the needs and immunological profile of the individual patient thus constitute a major unmet clinical need. In vitro assays that measure immune cell responses to immunosuppressive drugs constitute a promising approach to individualized immunosuppressive therapy. Here, we present the Immunobiogram, a functional pharmacodynamic immune cell-based assay for simultaneous quantitative measurement of a patient’s immune response to a battery of immunosuppressive drugs. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells collected from patients are immunologically stimulated to induce activation and proliferation and embedded in a hydrogel mixture in which they are exposed to a concentration gradient of the immunosuppressants of interest. Analysis of samples from kidney transplant patients using this procedure revealed an association between the sensitivity of individual patients to the immunosuppressive regimen and their immunological risk of transplant rejection. Incorporation of the Immunobiogram assay into clinical settings could greatly facilitate personalized optimization and monitoring of immunosuppressive therapy, and study of the mechanisms underlying resistance to immunosuppressants.

The objective of this cross‐sectional descriptive study is to analyse the degree of compliance with the preventive measures for pressure injuries reported by an International Study Group in a cohort of adult critically ill patients. The level of risk of developing pressure injuries was determined using the Conscious level, Mobility, Hemodynamics, Oxygenation and Nutrition (COMHON) index. According to the level of risk, the preventive measures applied to each patient and scores on the different components of the index were recorded. Number, location and degree of pressure injuries were registered. Seventy‐three patients (male: 68%) with an acute physiology and chronic health evaluation (APACHE) II: 12,1 ± 6,2 and 56,1% of them with invasive mechanical ventilation. The prevalence of pressure injuries was 21,9%, with 43,7% of sacral location and 75% of grade II. The level of risk using the COMHON index was distributed between low 30,1%, intermediate 23,3% and high 46,6%. The compliance range from 0% (offloading heel devices) to the use of active mattress and incontinence pads (100%). Regarding repositioning the degree of compliance varies (from 20% to 80%) according if patients with contraindications (4 points in subscale of Mobility) or those with the capacity to mobilise themselves (2 points in subscale of Mobility) are included in the denominator. We have found that in our ICU there is a wide range of compliance with the use of the preventive measures recommended by the International Study Group. Este trabajo se centra en los arcaduces documentados en un conjunto de aceñas localizadas en Senda de Granada, un paraje emplazado en el heredamiento norte del sistema hidráulico andalusí murciano. El estudio del material cerámico y el análisis de los contextos estratigráficos y estructurales han permitido confirmar la filiación islámica, al menos del heredamiento de Aljufía (norte), y su datación en el siglo X, descartando su posible origen romano. Esta fecha se ha podido establecer gracias a los arcaduces documentados en las aceñas 1, 2 y 3, que denominamos arcaduces de fijación próximo-distal, que se encuadran tipológicamente en el grupo identificado por S. Gutiérrez Lloret (1986, 1996), en el Bajo Segura, cuyos antecedentes se remontan a la segunda mitad del siglo VIII. La presencia en Senda de Granada de otro tipo de arcaduz, provisto de sendas escotaduras y base apuntada (engarce próximo-medial), mejor representado en el resto de al-Andalus, nos llevó a estudiar la distribución espacial de los respectivos tipos y el supuesto proceso evolutivo de carácter morfo-técnico. El análisis ha revelado que ambos tipos de arcaduz convivieron un largo período de tiempo, entre los siglos X y XI, aunque no en el mismo espacio geográfico, sino que ocuparon zonas excluyentes hasta que hacia el siglo XII los arcaduces de amarre próximo-distal fueron definitivamente remplazados, en Tudmīr, por los de fijación próximo-medial de base apuntada. En relación con la creación del espacio irrigado andalusí en Murcia, los hallazgos de Senda de Granada permiten determinar un terminus ante quem para la creación de su huerta en el siglo X, período en el cual sus aceñas ya se encontraban funcionando.

In the absence of pollination, female reproductive organs senesce, leading to an irrevocable loss in the reproductive potential of the flower, which directly affects seed set. In self-pollinating crops like wheat (Triticum aestivum), the post-anthesis viability of unpollinated carpels has been overlooked, despite its importance for hybrid seed production systems. To advance our knowledge of carpel development in the absence of pollination, we created a highthroughput phenotyping approach to quantify stigma and ovary morphology. We demonstrate the suitability of the approach, which uses light-microscopy imaging and machine learning, for the analysis of floral organ traits in field-grown plants using fresh and fixed samples. We show that the unpollinated carpel undergoes a welldefined initial growth phase, followed by a peak phase in which stigma area reaches its maximum and the radial expansion of the ovary slows, and a final deterioration phase. These developmental dynamics were consistent across years and could be used to classify male-sterile cultivars. This phenotyping approach provides a new tool for examining carpel development, which we hope will advance research into female fertility of wheat. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
