Abstract Background The incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is on the rise in developing countries, and investigating the underlying mechanisms of IBD is essential for the development of targeted therapeutic interventions. Interferon regulatory factor 7 (IRF7) is known to exert pro-inflammatory effects in various autoimmune diseases, yet its precise role in the development of colitis remains unclear. Methods We analyzed the clinical significance of IRF7 in ulcerative colitis (UC) by searching RNA-Seq databases and collecting tissue samples from clinical UC patients. And, we performed dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis modeling using WT and Irf7 −/− mice to explore the mechanism of IRF7 action on colitis. Results In this study, we found that IRF7 expression is significantly reduced in patients with UC, and also demonstrated that Irf7 −/− mice display heightened susceptibility to DSS-induced colitis, accompanied by elevated levels of colonic and serum pro-inflammatory cytokines, suggesting that IRF7 is able to inhibit colitis. This increased susceptibility is linked to compromised intestinal barrier integrity and impaired expression of key molecules, including Muc2, E-cadherin, β-catenin, Occludin, and Interleukin-28A (IL-28A), a member of type III interferon (IFN-III), but independent of the deficiency of classic type I interferon (IFN-I) and type II interferon (IFN-II). The stimulation of intestinal epithelial cells by recombinant IL-28A augments the expression of Muc2, E-cadherin, β-catenin, and Occludin. The recombinant IL-28A protein in mice counteracts the heightened susceptibility of Irf7 −/− mice to colitis induced by DSS, while also elevating the expression of Muc2, E-cadherin, β-catenin, and Occludin, thereby promoting the integrity of the intestinal barrier. Conclusion These findings underscore the pivotal role of IRF7 in preserving intestinal homeostasis and forestalling the onset of colitis.

BackgroundCrohn’s disease (CD) is an immune-mediated disorder characterized by immune cell infiltration that induces persistent chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Programmed cell death (PCD) plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of CD. This study identified vital PCD-related genes in CD based on immune infiltration using bioinformatic analysis.MethodsWe obtained two CD datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and examined immune cell infiltration to investigate immune cell dysregulation in CD. PCD-related genes were retrieved from the GeneCards database. Based on the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and PCD gene sets, PCD-related DEGs were identified. Candidate hub genes were identified using a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network, and their diagnostic effectiveness was predicted using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Functional enrichment and immune infiltration analyses were used to assess the distinct roles of the hub genes. Finally, the miRWalk and ENCORI databases were used to predict which microRNAs (miRNAs) regulated the hub genes and to verify gene expression in CD colonic tissues via transcriptome sequencing.ResultsA total of 335 PCD-related DEGs and 3 hub genes (MMP1, SAA1, and PLAU) were identified. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) functional analyses indicated the enrichment of these genes in the immune response. Infiltration analysis of immune cells showed abundant endothelial cells, plasma cells, dendritic cells, and monocytes in the CD samples. Based on the correlation analysis, the three hub genes were positively correlated with monocytes and negatively correlated with CD8 naïve T-cells. MMP1, SAA1, and PLAU correlated with the pathogenicity of CD and had good diagnostic value for CD. The three hub genes were highly expressed in the CD tissues, as confirmed using transcriptome sequencing.ConclusionThis study identified MMP1, SAA1, and PLAU as hub genes involved in PCD in patients with CD. These genes regulate immune cell function and their expression levels are closely related to immune cell infiltration. These findings provide novel insights into the mechanisms underlying CD pathogenesis. The identified PCD genes and regulatory miRNAs are potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for CD.

Abstract Background This study aimed to evaluate stomatological students’ learning efficacy and their attitude towards Lecture-Team-Based Learning (LTBL) on topics regarding the design of removable partial dentures via in-class, online, and both in combination. Methods Students from seven distinct grades participated in the course in their fourth academic year (Years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021). Students of Years 2015–2019 attended in-class LTBL, students of Year 2020 attended online LTBL, and students of Year 2021 attended the combination mode. The scores of three examinations were compared, namely, individual readiness assessment test, team readiness assurance test, and individual application test. Visual Analog Scales (VAS) were used for students to self-assess their mastery of prosthodontics knowledge before and after the course. Anonymous questionnaires were delivered to evaluate their satisfaction with LTBL via a Likert scale. Results In each academic year, the three exam scores were significantly improved as the course progressed and VAS-post scores were significantly higher than VAS-pre scores. The three examination and VAS scores of students in Year 2020 were significantly lower than those in Years 2019 and 2021. Students were highly satisfied with the LTBL course based on the three parameters of knowledge acquisition, teamwork, and classroom atmosphere. Conclusion Students were highly satisfied with the LTBL course and their learning performance was improved as the course progressed both in-class and online. Online LTBL could be adopted when students have to study online, while in-class LTBL could perform better when combined with video records of an online LTBL course.

Abstract Background The selection of post-core material holds significant importance in endodontically treated teeth, influencing stress distribution in the dental structure after restoration. The use of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) glass fiber post-core possesses a better adaptation for different root canal morphologies, but whether this results in a more favorable stress distribution has not been clearly established. Materials and methods This study employed finite element analysis to establish three models of post-core crown restoration with normal, oversized, and dumbbell-shaped root canals. The three models were restored using three different materials: CAD/CAM glass fiber post-core (CGF), prefabricated glass fiber post and resin core (PGF), and cobalt-chromium integrated metal post-core (Co-Cr), followed by zirconia crown restoration. A static load was applied and the maximum equivalent von Mises stress, maximum principal stress, stress distribution plots, and the peak of maximum displacement were calculated for dentin, post-core, crown, and the cement acting as the interface between the post-core and the dentin. Results In dentin of three different root canal morphology, it was observed that PGF exhibited the lowest von Mises stresses, while Co-Cr exhibited the highest ones under a static load. CGF showed similar stress distribution to that of Co-Cr, but the stresses were more homogeneous and concentrated apically. In oversized and dumbbell-shaped root canal remnants, the equivalent von Mises stress in the cement layer using CGF was significantly lower than that of PGF. Conclusions In oversized root canals and dumbbell-shaped root canals, CGF has shown good performance for restoration of endodontically treated teeth. Clinical relevance This study provides a theoretical basis for clinicians to select post-core materials for residual roots with different root canal morphologies and should help to reduce the occurrence of complications such as root fracture and post-core debonding.

AbstractContext 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU)-injured stromal cells may cause chronic bone marrow suppression; however, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Angelica sinensis polysaccharide (ASP), the main biologically active ingredient of the Chinese herb, Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels (Apiaceae), may enrich the blood and promote antioxidation.Objective This study investigated the protective antioxidative effects of ASP on perivascular mesenchymal progenitors (PMPs) and their interactions with hematopoietic cells.Materials and methods PMPs were dissociated from C57BL/6 mouse femur and tibia and were subsequently divided into the control, ASP (0.1 g/L), 5-FU (0.025 g/L), and 5-FU + ASP (pre-treatment with 0.1 g/L ASP for 6 h, together with 0.025 g/L 5-FU) then cultured for 48 h. Hematopoietic cells were co-cultured on these feeder layers for 24 h. Cell proliferation, senescence, apoptosis, and oxidative indices were detected, along with stromal osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation potentials. Intercellular and intracellular signaling was analyzed by real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting.Results ASP ameliorated the reactive oxygen species production/scavenge balance in PMPs; improved osteogenic differentiation; increased SCF, CXCL12, VLA-4/VCAM-1, ICAM-1/LFA1, and TPO/MPL, Ang-1/Tie-2 gene expression. Further, the ASP-treated feeder layer alleviated hematopoietic cells senescence (from 21.9 ± 1.47 to 12.1 ± 1.13); decreased P53, P21, p-GSK-3β, β-catenin and cyclin-D1 protein expression, and increased glycogen synthase kinase (GSK)-3β protein expression in co-cultured hematopoietic cells.Discussion and conclusions ASP delayed oxidative stress-induced premature senescence of 5-FU-treated feeder co-cultured hematopoietic cells via down-regulation of overactivated Wnt/β-catenin signaling. These findings provide a new strategy for alleviating myelosuppressive stress.

Abstract Background Shenkang injection has been used clinically to lower creatinine levels. This study explored the mechanism of Shenkang injection on protecting kidney function from hyperglycemia-mediated damage. Methods This study utilized a STreptoZotocin (STZ)-induced rat model of diabetes. In total, 60 rats were randomized into either the control group (n = 15) injected with vehicle or treatment group (n = 45) injected with STZ to induce hyperglycemia. Eight weeks after diabetes onset, diabetic rats were further randomized to receive different treatments for 4 consecutive weeks, including vehicle (diabetic nephropathy group, n = 15), Shenkang (n = 15), or Valsartan (n = 15). At 12 weeks, a series of urine and blood measures were examined and damage to the kidney tissue was examined using histology. Expression of nephrin and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) were characterized using immunohistochemistry and Western blot. Results Compared to the control group, rats in the diabetic nephropathy group showed significant kidney damage demonstrated by high kidneyindex, high levels of urinary albumin, albumin/creatinine ratio (ACR), blood urea nitrogen as well as histological evidence. Shenkang injection significantly improved kidney function in the diabetic rats by decreasing kidney index, ACR, and serum creatinine. Shenkang treatment also mitigated kidney damage, improved nephrin expression, and decreased TGF-β1 expression in the kidneys. Conclusions Shenkang treatment protected renal function in diabetic rats by increasing nephrin expression, which protects diabetic rats from hyperglycemia-mediated kidney damage.

Abstract Background The brain uses recent history when forming perceptual decisions. This results in carryover effects in perception. Although separate sensory and decisional carryover effects have been shown in many perceptual tasks, their existence and nature in temporal processing are unclear. Here, we investigated whether and how previous stimuli and previous choices affect subsequent duration perception, in vision and audition. Results In a series of three experiments, participants were asked to classify visual or auditory stimuli into “shorter” or “longer” duration categories. In experiment 1, visual and auditory stimuli were presented in separate blocks. Results showed that current duration estimates were repelled away from the previous trial’s stimulus duration, but attracted towards the previous choice, in both vision and audition. In experiment 2, visual and auditory stimuli were pseudorandomly presented in one block. We found that sensory and decisional carryover effects occurred only when previous and current stimuli were from the same modality. Experiment 3 further investigated the stimulus dependence of carryover effects within each modality. In this experiment, visual stimuli with different shape topologies (or auditory stimuli with different audio frequencies) were pseudorandomly presented in one visual (or auditory) block. Results demonstrated sensory carryover (within each modality) despite task-irrelevant differences in visual shape topology or audio frequency. By contrast, decisional carryover was reduced (but still present) across different visual topologies and completely absent across different audio frequencies. Conclusions These results suggest that serial dependence in duration perception is modality-specific. Moreover, repulsive sensory carryover effects generalize within each modality, whereas attractive decisional carryover effects are contingent on contextual details.

Background The influencing factors of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) were explored to develop and validate a DKD diagnostic tool based on nomogram approach for patients with T2DM. Methods A total of 2,163 in-hospital patients with diabetes diagnosed from March 2015 to March 2017 were enrolled. Specified logistic regression models were used to screen the factors and establish four different diagnostic tools based on nomogram according to the final included variables. Discrimination and calibration were used to assess the performance of screening tools. Results Among the 2,163 participants with diabetes (1,227 men and 949 women), 313 patients (194 men and 120 women) were diagnosed with DKD. Four different screening equations (full model, laboratory-based model 1 [LBM1], laboratory-based model 2 [LBM2], and simplified model) showed good discriminations and calibrations. The C-indexes were 0.8450 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.8202 to 0.8690) for full model, 0.8149 (95% CI, 0.7892 to 0.8405) for LBM1, 0.8171 (95% CI, 0.7912 to 0.8430) for LBM2, and 0.8083 (95% CI, 0.7824 to 0.8342) for simplified model. According to Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test, good agreement between the predicted and observed DKD events in patients with diabetes was observed for full model (χ2=3.2756, P=0.9159), LBM1 (χ2=7.749, P=0.4584), LBM2 (χ2=10.023, P=0.2634), and simplified model (χ2=12.294, P=0.1387). Conclusion LBM1, LBM2, and simplified model exhibited excellent predictive performance and availability and could be recommended for screening DKD cases among Chinese patients with diabetes.

Tantalum, including its porous form, has attracted increasing attention due to good bioactivity, biocompatibility, and biomechanical properties. After a metal material is implanted into the body as a medical intervention, a series of interactions occurs between the material’s surface and the microenvironment. The interaction between cells and the surface of the implant mainly depends on the surface morphology and chemical composition of the implant’s surface. In this context, appropriate modification of the surface of tantalum can guide the biological behavior of cells, promote the potential of materials, and facilitate bone integration. Substantial progress has been made in tantalum surface modification technologies, especially nano-modification technology. This paper systematically reviews the progress in research on tantalum surface modification for the first time, including physicochemical properties, biological performance, and surface modification technologies of tantalum and porous tantalum.

A Physical Protection System (PPS) protect critical assets and nuclear materials of the Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) from a malicious attack to avoid an unacceptable radioactive consequence. The growing threat of terrorism makes NPPs a huge challenge. After the PPS is developed or threat updated, it must be evaluated, usually need re-design to ensure it still meets the objectives. Due to the complexity of effectiveness evaluation, the authors have developed a Virtual Force on Force System (VFFS).

Astrocytes play an important role in the central nervous system (CNS). Ion channels in these cells not only function in ion transport, and maintain water/ion metabolism homeostasis, but also participate in physiological processes of neurons and glial cells by regulating signaling pathways. Increasing evidence indicates the ion channel proteins of astrocytes, such as aquaporins (AQPs), transient receptor potential (TRP) channels, adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-sensitive potassium (K-ATP) channels, and P2X7 receptors (P2X7R), are strongly associated with oxidative stress, neuroinflammation and characteristic proteins in neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), Huntington’s disease (HD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Since ion channel protein dysfunction is a significant pathological feature of astrocytes in neurodegenerative diseases, we discuss these critical proteins and their signaling pathways in order to understand the underlying molecular mechanisms, which may yield new therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative disorders.

This study presents an intelligent distribution framework based on edge computing and proposes navigation and obstacle avoidance algorithms for connected logistics vehicles (CLVs) on the basis of Trimble BD982 positioning sensor and tentacle algorithm (TA). An edge computing framework for the distribution of CLVs is established, and the functions of three layers (cloud server, edge equipment, and terminal) are described in detail. The basic functions, hardware, and software systems of the CLV are designed and presented. Focusing on autonomous driving, a Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation algorithm and an obstacle avoidance control strategy on the layer of edge equipment are developed on the basis of the TA. Autonomous GPS navigation is realized by combining the entire road network with the local road network to avoid obstacles. The TA is improved to help the CLV for avoiding obstacles. Experiments show that the hardware system and designed algorithms of the CLV are effective. The tracking error on the straight-line track is within 3 cm, the change rate of longitudinal velocity is within 0.3 g/s, the change rate of tire side deflection angle is less than 1°/s, and the calculation time is shortened by 25% when the calculation time is 30 ms. These results indicate that the vehicle has good stability and performance during obstacle avoidance in real time, and the proposed algorithms are superior to traditional algorithms. The CLV can realize autonomous GPS navigation, with high navigation accuracy, reliable obstacle avoidance performance, and stable vehicle handling.

With the development and progress of information technology, especially V2X technology, the research focus of intelligent vehicles gradually shifted from single-vehicle control to multi-vehicle control, and the cooperative control system of intelligent connected vehicles became an important topic of development. In order to track the research progress of intelligent connected vehicle cooperative driving systems in recent years, this paper discusses the current research of intelligent connected vehicle cooperative driving systems with vehicles, infrastructure, and test sites, and analyzes the current development status, development trend, and development limitations of each object. Based on the analysis results of relevant references of the cooperative control algorithm, this paper expounds on vehicle collaborative queue control, vehicle collaborative decision making, and vehicle collaborative positioning. In the case of taking the infrastructure as the object, this paper expounds the communication security, communication delay, and communication optimization algorithm of the vehicle terminal and the road terminal of intelligent connected vehicles. In the case of taking the test site as the object, this paper expounds the development process and research status of the real vehicle road test platform, virtual test platform, test method, and evaluation mechanism, and analyzes the problems existing in the intelligent connected vehicle test environment. Finally, the future development trend and limitations of intelligent networked vehicle collaborative control system are discussed. This paper summarizes the intelligent connected car collaborative control system, and puts forward the next problems to be solved and the direction of further exploration. The research results can provide a reference for the cooperative driving of intelligent vehicles.

Mitochondria are organelles responsible for bioenergetic metabolism, calcium homeostasis, and signal transmission essential for neurons due to their high energy consumption. Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that mitochondria play a key role in axon degeneration and regeneration under physiological and pathological conditions. Mitochondrial dysfunction occurs at an early stage of axon degeneration and involves oxidative stress, energy deficiency, imbalance of mitochondrial dynamics, defects in mitochondrial transport, and mitophagy dysregulation. The restoration of these defective mitochondria by enhancing mitochondrial transport, clearance of reactive oxidative species (ROS), and improving bioenergetic can greatly contribute to axon regeneration. In this paper, we focus on the biological behavior of axonal mitochondria in aging, injury (e.g., traumatic brain and spinal cord injury), and neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's disease, AD; Parkinson's disease, PD; Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS) and consider the role of mitochondria in axon regeneration. We also compare the behavior of mitochondria in different diseases and outline novel therapeutic strategies for addressing abnormal mitochondrial biological behavior to promote axonal regeneration in neurological diseases and injuries.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is an incurable neurodegenerative disease. Numerous studies have demonstrated a critical role for dysregulated glucose metabolism in its pathogenesis. In this review, we summarize metabolic alterations in aging brain and AD-related metabolic deficits associated with glucose metabolism dysregulation, glycolysis dysfunction, tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) deficits, and pentose phosphate pathway impairment. Additionally, we discuss recent treatment strategies targeting metabolic defects in AD, including their limitations, in an effort to encourage the development of novel therapeutic strategies.

Neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, are characterized by a progressive loss of selective neuron subtypes in the central nervous system (CNS). Although various factors account for the initiation and development of these diseases, accumulating evidence shows that impaired mitochondrial function is a prominent and common mechanism. Mitochondria play a critical role in neurons and are involved in energy production, cellular metabolism regulation, intracellular calcium homeostasis, immune responses, and cell fate. Thus, cells in the CNS heavily rely on mitochondrial integrity. Many aspects of mitochondrial dysfunction are manifested in neurodegenerative diseases, including aberrant mitochondrial quality control (mitoQC), mitochondrial-driven inflammation, and bioenergetic defects. Herein, we briefly summarize the molecular basis of mitoQC, including mitochondrial proteostasis, biogenesis, dynamics, and organelle degradation. We also focus on the research, to date, regarding aberrant mitoQC and mitochondrial-driven inflammation in several common neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, we outline novel therapeutic strategies that target aberrant mitoQC in neurodegenerative diseases.

Urban traffic accidents are on the rise worldwide. In order to reduce the incidence rate of dangerous traffic events on road, it is important to train drivers using appropriate traffic scenarios. The objective of this paper is to develop the categories of hazardous traffic events that can be used to construct the simulated hazardous traffic scenarios. A survey questionnaire on drivers' perceptions of hazardous traffic events is distributed to 340 randomly selected drivers. It collects information on the drivers' perceptions of hazardous traffic events' frequency of happening degree of damage and drivers' stress levels triggered by such events. The survey responses are analyzed using fuzzy mathematics methods. Each hazardous traffic event includes the contributing factors of motor vehicles, non-motor vehicles, or pedestrians. The findings from this paper can be used to develop hazardous traffic scenarios to train drives and to provide theoretical basis for further developing and refining active risk avoidance systems.

The impact of drought on insects has become increasingly evident in the context of global climate change, but the physiological mechanisms of aphids’ responses to desiccating environments are still not well understood. We sampled the wheat aphid Sitobion avenae (Fabricius) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) from arid areas of northwestern China. Both desiccation-resistant and -nonresistant genotypes were identified, providing direct evidence of genetic divergence in desiccation resistance of S. avenae. Resistant genotypes of wingless S. avenae showed longer survival time and LT50 under the desiccation stress (i.e., 10% relative humidity) than nonresistant genotypes, and wingless individuals tended to have higher desiccation resistance than winged ones. Both absolute and relative water contents did not differ between the two kinds of genotypes. Resistant genotypes had lower water loss rates than nonresistant genotypes for both winged and wingless individuals, suggesting that modulation of water loss rates could be the primary strategy in resistance of this aphid against desiccation stress. Contents of cuticular hydrocarbons (CHC) (especially methyl-branched alkanes) showed significant increase for both resistant and nonresistant genotypes after exposure to the desiccation stress for 24 h. Under desiccation stress, survival time was positively correlated with contents of methyl-branched alkanes for resistant genotypes. Thus, the content of methyl-branched alkanes and their high plasticity could be closely linked to water loss rate and desiccation resistance in S. avenae. Our results provide insights into fundamental aspects and underlying mechanisms of desiccation resistance in aphids, and have significant implications for the evolution of aphid populations in the context of global warming.

BACKGROUND:A previous study (Roessner et al. 2007) found psychopathological evidence of an additive model of the comorbid group with Chronic Tic Disorders and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (CTD+ADHD), which demanded clinical interventions aimed primarily at the factor ADHD. This 14-year follow-up study tested whether this childhood additive model can also be found in young adulthood and whether ADHD remains the most impairing factor. METHODS:92 patients (22.8% girls) from Roessner et al. (2007) were re-investigated as young adults at the age of 24 years, broken down into four groups: CTD-only (n = 22), CTD+ADHD (n = 23), ADHD-only (n = 24), and controls (n = 23). The Adult Behavior Checklist (ABCL) was used as an equivalent parent-report instrument to the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) applied 14 years ago. Statistically, 2x2 factorial design was completed. RESULTS:From the point of view of parents, the factors CTD and ADHD in young adults contributed almost equally to psychopathological problems and showed many interactions, i.e. an interactive model was supported. In addition, the ADHD factor was no longer the leading problem for psychosocial impairment in the adult CTD+ADHD group. CONCLUSION:The additive model of CTD+ADHD seems to exist no longer in young adults, nor may the childhood predominance of the factor ADHD in comorbid CTD+ADHD. Thus, treatment priority should be decided by clinicians on a case-by-case basis depending on the most impairing disorder of each patient.

For the identification of salmon adulteration with water injection, a nondestructive identification method based on hyperspectral images was proposed. The hyperspectral images of salmon fillets in visible and near-infrared ranges (390–1050 nm) were obtained with a system. The original hyperspectral data were processed through the principal-component analysis (PCA). According to the image quality and PCA parameters, a second principal-component (PC2) image was selected as the feature image, and the wavelengths corresponding to the local extremum values of feature image weighting coefficients were extracted as feature wavelengths, which were 454.9, 512.3, and 569.1 nm. On this basis, the color combined with spectra at feature wavelengths, texture combined with spectra at feature wavelengths, and color-texture combined with spectra at feature wavelengths were independently set as the input, for the modeling of salmon adulteration identification based on the self-organizing feature map (SOM) network. The distances between neighboring neurons and feature weights of the models were analyzed to realize the visualization of identification results. The results showed that the SOM-based model, with texture-color combined with fusion features of spectra at feature wavelengths as the input, was evaluated to possess the best performance and identification accuracy is as high as 96.7%.

The study of hyperspectral imaging in tandem with spectral preprocessing and neural network techniques was conducted to realize Colla Corii Asini (CCA, E’jiao) adulteration discrimination. CCA was adulterated with pig skin gelatin (PSG) in the range of 5–95% (w/w) at 5% increments. Three methods were used to pretreat the original spectra, which are multiplicative scatter correction (MSC), Savitzky-Golay (SG) smoothing, and the combination of MSC and SG (MSC-SG). SPA was employed to select the characteristic wavelengths (CWs) to reduce the high dimension. Colour and texture features of CWs were extracted as input of prediction model. Two kinds of artificial neural network (ANN) with three spectral preprocessing methods were applied to establish the prediction models. The prediction model of generalized regression neural network (GRNN) in tandem with the MSC-SG preprocessed method presented satisfactory performance with the correct classification rate value of 92.5%. The results illustrated that the integration of preprocessing methods, hyperspectral imaging features, and ANN modeling had a great potential and feasibility for CCA adulteration discrimination.

Although the prevalence rates of sleep disorders at different stages of childhood and adolescence have been well established, little is known about the developmental course of general sleep problems. This also holds true for the bidirectional relationship between sleep problems and emotional as well as behavioral difficulties. This longitudinal study investigated the general pattern and the latent trajectory classes of general sleep problems from a large community sample aged 5 to 14 years. In addition, this study examined the predictive value of emotional/behavioral difficulties (i.e., anxiety/depression, attention problems, and aggressive behavior) on sleep problems latent trajectory classes, and vice-versa. Participants (N = 1993) were drawn from a birth cohort of Western Australian children born between 1989 and 1991 who were followed until 14 years of age. Sleep problems were assessed at ages 5, 8, 10, and 14, respectively, whereas anxiety/depression, attention problems, and aggressive behavior were assessed at ages 5 and 17 years. Latent growth curve modeling revealed a decline in an overall pattern of sleep problems during the observed 10-year period. Anxiety/depression was the only baseline factor that predicted the longitudinal course of sleep problems from ages 5 to 14 years, with anxious and depressed participants showing faster decreasing patterns of sleep problems over time than those without anxiety or depression. Growth mixture modeling identified two classes of sleep problem trajectories: Normal Sleepers (89.4%) and Troubled Sleepers (10.6%). Gender was randomly distributed between these groups. Childhood attention problems, aggressive behavior, and the interaction between gender and anxiety/depression were significantly predictive of membership in the group of Troubled Sleepers. Group membership in Troubled Sleepers was associated with higher probability of having attention problems and aggressive behavior in mid-adolescence. Boys and girls with behavioral difficulties, and girls with emotional difficulties were at increased risk of having sleep problems during later childhood and adolescence. Developmental trajectories of sleep problems were also predictive of behavioral difficulties in later life. Findings from this study provide empirical evidence for the heterogeneity of sleep problems and their development, and emphasize the importance of understanding sleep problems and their relationship to children and adolescents’ mental health.

The increasing demand of urban distribution aggravates urban congestion and environmental pollution. In view of the growing serious environmental problems, the urban distribution of electric vehicles (EVs) can alleviate the pollution caused by vehicle emissions to a certain extent. However, in practical application, this urban distribution is affected by the scarce distribution of public charging piles and the limited mileage per charge, which bring difficulties to the operation scheduling. An optimization method considering the distribution of public charging piles and carbon emissions was proposed to improve the efficiency of the urban distribution of EVs. With the minimum total distribution cost as the optimization objective, an optimization model based on the distribution of the public charging pile network and considering the restriction of mileage per charge was established. Hill-climbing algorithm was introduced in accordance with the requirements and characteristics of the optimization model to improve the standard genetic algorithm (SGA) and its local solving capability. The feasibility and validity of the model and hill-climbing genetic algorithm (HCGA) were verified by solving small- and large-scale numerical examples. Results demonstrate that the optimization model and HCGA proposed can effectively provide optimized solutions for the urban distribution of EVs. The designed HCGA has a better searching capability than SGA. For the small-scale numerical example, the average total cost of the feasible solutions obtained by HCGA is 18.2% less than that by SGA, whereas for the large-scale example, the cost is 6% less than that by SGA. With the increase of car ownership in China, the number of car-wash has increased. This directly causes the increase of water consumption and vehicle washing wastewater. China is facing not only the shortage of water resources, but also the serious pollution of water resources. Therefore, the recovery and treatment of car washing wastewater is imminent. The existing handing) of wastewater include coagulation treatment, membrane biological reaction method, membrane filtration physical treatment and air float filtration method. In this research the coagulation treatment is used as the pre-treatment, the nano filtration membrane is used to treat the wastewater, and the concentrated water after nano filtration enters into the municipal sewage. Using this method, the removal rate of turbidity, COD and LAS reach the expected levels. The test shows that the car wash wastewater treated by our method has reached the discharge standard.
