The Arab Uprising has risen to the academic arena recently in several aspects. What is happening in that territory calls attention to the structure of the uprising. Tunisia, the first cycle in the Arab Spring, witnesses a short but bloody transition. This transition, which is called the Jasmine Revolution, comes to an end with the surrender of power by the incumbent regime to the opposition without any compromise. These events begin with an economic reasoning but then continue with liberal-democratic demands. In this study, we will first cover Tunisia's political background in search of its democratic heritage. We will then consider such democratic institutions before and during the transitions as elections, freedom of expression, freedom of association and other issues regarding human rights. The Gypsies, identified as "the largest ethnic minority group in Europe," have also been known as the most discriminated and marginalized ethnic group, and faced severe difficulties in social, cultural and economic terms in Turkey. This study focuses on Gypsies living in Kocaeli, Turkey, probably the least known group in the literature. The aim of the study is to identify the situations of this disadvantageous group in Kocaeli and to develop policy recommendations regarding their problems. The study also aims to find out basic demographic, educational, social, habitual and economic situations of Gypsies, in order to explore strategies for integration to the urban life in Kocaeli. This study, which is probably the first and most comprehensive research on the specific Gypsy group living in Kocaeli, is based on empirical data collected from a survey applied to a total of 3517 Gypsies living in three districts of Kocaeli between 2 and 19 February, 2011. In this survey, it has been found out that Gypsies in Kocaeli are socio-economically living under extremely hard conditions and facing serious problems in terms of social discrimination, education, working, social security, and housing. The paper will first give basic information regarding Gypsies of Turkey in general and of Kocaeli in particular. Then, findings of the survey will be shared. Although Anatolianism movement introduced a significant identity initiative, it constitutes one of the less studied topics in the political science literature. Anatolianism movement that arose as a reaction to the Ottomanism, Islamism and Turkism, which are described as "three way of politics/üç tarz-ı siyaset" by Yusuf Akçura, objects their perceptions of motherland, history and nation as well as their rhetoric and politics that fails to take Anatolia in the centre. It brings new proposals against the irredentist policies of Pan-Turkism and Pan-Islamism ideologies by bringing nativeness and localism to the forefront. It sets the main element of the identity as Anatolian geography and Anatolian motherland. Within the context of this study, the Anatolianism movement and the "Anatolian identity" that is constructed by this movement will be analyzed in comparison with the other three most widespread ideologies of the time; Ottomanism, Islamism and Turkism. For this purpose, the history, geography, motherland, nationalism and identity etc. that is used by the Anatolianist rhetoric will be discussed and a comprehensive idea of how the supporters of Anatolianism movement will place themselves against this movement, will be tried to be established.
