Objective: This research is aimed to create themes and codes about professional competency in midwifery, to reveal the relationship between the codes created. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted between October 2018 and March 2019 at the Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatric Emergency Campus of a training and research hospital. This study was conducted in a training and research hospital in Sakarya province and 18 midwives who met the inclusion criteria were interviewed. The midwives were asked semi-structured questions in the Midwife Introduction and Interview Form and audio recorded. The responses to the questions were recorded, transcribed and coded using MAXQDA2018 software program. The codes were then analyzed and grouped according to categories and themes. Results: The median age of the midwives was 35 years. Of them, eight were bachelor’s degree, and six had been working in the delivery room for ≥16 years. In addition, a total of five themes, 17 categories, 35 codes were created and the usage density of these codes is 289. Conclusion: Since the midwives were unable to sufficiently describe the concept of competency as well as their own competencies, it was determined that additional education and research in community health services, hands-on experience and technological training could help build their skills and knowledge, make them more effective in their practice, increase their self-confidence and boost their overall job satisfaction.

Amaç: Araştırma, 19-64 yaş arasındaki cinsel yönden aktif kadınların serviks kanseri ve pap-smear tarama testi hakkındaki tutumlarını ve bunları etkileyebilecek faktörleri belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel tipte olan bu çalışma, Türkiye'nin batısında yer alan bir ilde yaşayan 19-64 yaş aralığındaki 150 kadın ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma verileri Haziran-Temmuz 2022 tarihleri arasında katılımcı bilgi formu, Servikal Kanserin Erken Tanısına İlişkin Tutum Ölçeği kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Form ve ölçeğe ait sorular “Google Forms” sistemine aktarılıp, paylaşılabilir bir bağlantı linki oluşturulmuş ve kartopu yöntemi ile kadınlara doldurulması için gönderilmiştir. Araştırma verileri SPSS 25.0 (Statistical Package for Social Science 25.0) programına aktarılarak analizleri yapılmıştır. Veriler, Oneway Anova testi, Independent-T testi, Bonferroni ve Pearson korelasyon testi ile değerlendirilmiştir. p lt;0,05 değeri istatistiksel olarak anlamlı kabul edilmiştir. Bulgular: Servikal Kanserin Erken Tanısına İlişkin Tutum Ölçeği toplam puan ortalaması 106,80+12,14, alt boyut toplam puan ortalamaları ise; algılanan yarar 22,39+3,18, algılanan duyarlılık 29,71+4,34, algılanan ciddiyet 27,30+6,50, algılanan engel 26,24+5,22 olarak belirlenmiştir. Ölçek alt boyutları ile ölçek toplam puan arasında pozitif yönde anlamlı ilişki bulunmuş olup (p lt;0.05), meslek, çocuk sayısı, pap smear hakkında eğitim alınan kişi ve eğitim alma nedenlerinin servikal kanserin erken tanısına ilişkin tutumları etkilediği belirlenmiştir (p lt;0.05). Sonuç: Katılımcıların serviks kanseri erken tanısına ilişkin olumlu tutumlarının yüksek düzeyde olduğu bulunmuştur. Ancak kadınların düzenli şekilde jinekolojik muayene yaptırma ve pap smear testi ile ilgili yeterli bilgiye sahip olmadığı ve engel algılarının orta düzeyde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Kadınlar kültürel inançları çerçevesinde, pap smear testi, jinekolojik muayene konusunda bilgilendirilme sağlanmalı ve olumlu sağlık davranışları geliştirilmesi konusunda eğitimler verilmelidir. Böylece engel algıları azaltılıp yarar algılarının artırılması sağlanacaktır.

Perineal traumas occurring during labor are undesirable for both the midwives and the woman. Midwives and obstetricians could use different techniques to protect the perineum. The aim of this study was to determine the practices of midwives working in the delivery room to protect the perineum during the second stage of labor. This is a prospective observational study regarding practices of midwifes for protection of perineum during intrapartum period. The study was conducted with a total of 20 midwives in a maternity unit of an training and research hospital. The data were collected through the forms prepared by the researchers. The average age of the midwives was 34 ± 8.77. The majority of midwives (n: 17, 85%) believed that the need for practices to protect the perineum during labor; 40% of them used perineal protection (hands on) technique to protect perineum and they preferred to perform routine episiotomy in all primiparas. As a result of the study, it was observed that evidence-based practices was not applied sufficiently enough by the midwives although they were knowledgeable and believed that they are beneficial. Studies are needed for the obstacles to these practices to be identified and removed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
