5. Development of Online Observable Dynamics Experiments Using Augmented Reality

Abstract

This study developed an online observable augmented reality dynamics experimental system that can be used in the current COVID-19 pandemic, where face-to-face experiments are difficult to conduct. The developed system enables the broadcast of mass point and rigid body measurements using an online depth camera, and remote observation using mobile devices. The mass point measurement enables students to quantitatively analyze results by utilizing 2D projected trajectories. Students can view the virtual trajectories by modifying the gravity or restitution coefficient, which is not possible in real experiments. The complex motion of the rigid body can be shown separately as the motion of the center of gravity and the moment of inertia with respect to the center of gravity.

7. Development of Augmented Reality Systems Displaying Three-Dimensional Dynamic Motion in Real Time

Abstract

We developed a three-dimensional motion tracking system that displays trajectories as augmented reality in real time on a tablet device. The features of this system are as follows: (1) the three-dimensional trajectory can be observed from any direction. (2) Velocity and acceleration can be visualized as augmented reality. The device consists of an Intel D435, a spatial recognition camera, and a Raspberry Pi 4 for data processing and transferring. The data are broadcasted to tablet computers, allowing simultaneous observation from multiple tablet devices. The sampling rate of the detection is 8 fps with a measurement error of 1.2%. Since even a general-purpose tablet device can be used to visualize trajectories as augmented reality with this motion-tracking system, it can be widely applied in the study of dynamics in physics from the junior high school to the university level.

Abstract

Objective To determine the feasibility of local inhibition of osteoclast activity and control of tooth movement with local intraoral reveromycin A (RMA) injection in model mice for experimental tooth movement. Materials and methods Eight-week-old wild-type mice (n = 6 per group) were divided into four groups consisting of two non-RMA groups that received normal saline for 14 (14-day non-RMA group) or 21 consecutive days (21-day non-RMA group) and 2 RMA groups that received RMA (1.0 mg/kg of weight) for 14 (14-day RMA group) or 21 consecutive days (21-day RMA group). RMA was injected locally into the buccal mucosa of the left first maxillary molar twice daily starting 3 days before placement of the 10-gf Ni-Ti closed coil spring. Tooth movement distance was analysed using micro-computed tomography. The effects on surrounding alveolar bone were evaluated by measuring the ratio of bone surface area to tissue surface area with haematoxylin-eosin-stained sections and counting the number of osteoclasts in periodontal tissue with TRAP-stained sections. Blood tests were performed and bone volume and trabecular separation at the tibial neck were measured to analyse systemic side effects. Results Local RMA injection inhibited tooth movement by 40.6 per cent, promoted alveolar bone volume maintenance by 37.4 per cent, and inhibited osteoclast activity around the tooth root at 21 days by 40.8 per cent. Systemic effects on osteoclasts or osteoblasts were not observed. Conclusion Local injection of RMA enabled control of tooth movement without systemic side effects in a mouse model. Abstract

Current research on stress pathology has revealed a set of molecular and cellular mechanisms through which psychosocial stress impairs brain function. However, there are few studies that have examined how chronic stress exposure alters neuronal activity patterns at a network level. Here, we recorded ensemble neuronal activity patterns of the cortico-hippocampal network from urethane-anesthetized mice that were subjected to repeated social defeat stress. In socially defeated mice, the magnitudes of local field potential signals, including theta, slow gamma, and fast gamma oscillations, were significantly reduced in the dentate gyrus, whereas they remained unchanged in the hippocampus and somatosensory cortex. In accordance with the vast majority of histological and biochemical studies, our evidence from electrophysiological investigations highlights the dentate gyrus as a key brain area that is primarily susceptible to stress-induced dysfunction. New star‐shaped non‐fullerene acceptors (5Z,5′Z,5′′Z)‐5,5′,5′′‐((benzo[1,2‐b : 3,4‐b′ : 5,6‐b′′]trithiophene‐2,5,8‐triyltris(4‐octylthiophene‐5,2‐diyl))tris(methaneylylidene))tris(3‐octyl‐2‐thioxothiazolidin‐4‐one) (1: BTT‐OT‐ORD) and 2,2′,2′′‐((5Z,5′Z,5′′Z)‐((benzo[1,2‐b : 3,4‐b′ : 5,6‐b′′]trithiophene‐2,5,8‐triyltris(4‐octylthiophene‐5,2‐diyl))tris(methaneylylidene))tris(3‐octyl‐4‐oxothiazolidine‐5,2‐diylidene))trimalononitrile (2: BTT‐OT‐OTZDM) with a benzotrithiophene core, alkyl‐thiophen units, and acceptor units were designed and synthesized. The HOMO‐LUMO levels of 1 and 2 were determined by photoemission spectroscopy and UV‐Vis absorption spectroscopy. Binary blend and ternary blend bulk heterojunction (BHJ) organic solar cells with non‐fullerene acceptors 1 and 2 were fabricated with the inverted device structures of glass/ITO/ZnO/active_layer/MoO3/Ag. Both binary blend BHJ solar cells with 1 and 2 show lower JSC and larger VOC values than P3HT : PCBM solar cells. On the other hand, ternary blend BHJ organic solar cells, including 10 % of 1, exhibited a larger power conversion efficiency than P3HT : PCBM solar cells because the JSC value was largely improved.
