A tungsten oxide load at submonolayer coverage of alumina renders highly dispersed dimeric polytungstate (octahedral and distorted octahedral coordination) and isolated monotungstate (tetrahedral) species. The polytungstate/monotungstate proportion increases when approaching monolayer. Crystalline WO3 nanoparticles emerge at higher loads. All components display hexavalent oxidation; yet, tungsten-oxide (W-O-W) and tungsten-oxide-alumina (W-O-Al) interactions were discerned by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of the WOx/Al2O3 materials herein prepared with 1, 3, and 5 weight percentages. The 5 wt % sample displayed the highest intensity percentage of W-O-Al species correlated to the highest methanol conversion (45 %), ascribed to the appearance of the weak acidity disclosed by temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia. This work, realized in the framework of the European project TurboNoiseBB, presents an advanced aeroacoustic design methodology of Outlet Guide Vanes (OGVs) with leading edge serrations, including details on their broadband noise and aerodynamic performance. The serrated OGV corresponds to a modified stator from an aeroengine fan stage tested at the AneCom AeroTest's facility (Germany). Sinusoidal leading edge patterns with varying amplitude and wavelength along the span are designed in collaboration with Safran Aircraft Engines. Serrations are adjusted to account for the turbulence characteristics provided by Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) calculations. Optimal parameters are found using simple design rules discussed in this paper. Down selection of serrated OGV designs (patent pending) is conducted through a RANS control of aerodynamic performances and in accordance with industrial specifications, ensuring acceptable penalties on the loss coefficient and isentropic efficiency. Broadband noise simulations are performed using a computational aeroacoustic (CAA) code that solves the linearized Euler equations with a synthetic turbulence model. Additionally, the acoustic response of the serrated leading edge airfoils is also estimated using the most relevant analytical formulation in the literature, based on the Wiener–Hopf technique. Numerical predictions at approach conditions are compared to available experimental measurements (on the untreated baseline case) and analytical Amiet-based and Wiener–Hopf solutions, showing satisfactory agreement in the sound power spectrum in the bypass duct. Finally, the acoustic performances estimated at the design stage are numerically assessed by both the CAA and Wiener–Hopf methods, providing around 2.5 dB and 3.5 dB reduction in the overall power level, respectively. Abstract: Aim: To investigate if crystallinity and ultrastructure are modified when cervical dentine is treated with four different nanogels‐based solutions for remineralizing purposes. Methodology: Experimental nanogels based on polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) and zinc, calcium or doxycycline‐loaded NPs were applied to citric acid etched dentine to facilitate the occlusion of tubules and the mineralization of the dentine surface. Dentine surfaces were studied by X‐ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy through selected area diffraction and bright‐field imaging. Results: Crystals at the dentine surface were identified as hydroxyapatite with the highest crystallographic maturity and crystallite size in dentine treated with Zn‐NPs‐based gel. Texture increased in all samples from 24 h to 7 days, except in dentine surfaces treated with Zn‐NPs gel. Polyhedral, plate‐like and drop‐like shaped apatite crystals constituted the bulk of minerals in dentine treated with Zn‐NPs gel, after 7 days. Polymorphic, cubic and needle‐like shaped crystals distinguished minerals, with more amorphous characteristics in dentine treated with Ca‐NPs gel after 7 days than that found when Zn‐NPs were applied. Doxycycline‐NPs produced the smallest crystallites with poor crystallinity, maturity and chemical stability. Conclusions: Crystalline and amorphous phases of newly formed hydroxyapatite were described in both types of dentine treated with Zn‐NPs as well as Ca‐NPs gels with multiple shapes of crystallites. The urban expansion over the last century in Lisbon has created a lot of pressure in the suburbs leading to construction taking place in less favourable terrains. These areas were also occupied by an extensive mining industry, for the extraction of massive limestones for building and ornamental stone that had an important role for the reconstruction of Lisbon after the earthquake of 1755. Due to its heavily urbanized landscape in the last century, the terrain morphology is often changed by non-natural processes such as excavations and landfill deposits and nowadays the exact location where these exploitations took place is unknown leading to potential risk situations for buildings, infrastructures and the local population. The aim of this study was to perform a detailed subsurface dynamic analysis to locate the quarries and their landfill material thickness. For that, cartographic and topographic information dating from 1911, 1950, 1970, 2012 were used to create digital terrain models which allowed the terrain morphology changes to be identified and the volume of landfill materials to be obtained. This study enables the Town Hall to create constraints in land use in their Master Plan and other planning instruments to reduce cost increases and the risk of hazards. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main objective of this research was to utilize pollen monitoring methodology to predict olive yields in three Mediterranean olive cultivation areas (Spain, Italy and Tunisia) and their relationships with the olive oil price dynamics. Moreover, olive yield and olive oil production compared with olive oil price trends in the last two decades was evaluated. The statistical analyses confirmed that biological parameters such as the pollen emission, the pollen season start (Pss), the full flowering (Ff) date or the pollen season length (Psl) showed positive correlation values with productive parameters, especially the Pollen Index (Pi). However, the difficulty to define clear relationships with oil price for optimizing the marketing strategies can be due to the olive sector European policy and to the complex international olive oil market situation. The occurrence of unharvested trees was increased and the reduction in agricultural operations as well as non-harvesting could become more widespread above all in traditional extensive systems. Contents Plasma progesterone (P4) concentrations and follicular activity after administration of different P4 doses were evaluated in 33 adult female llamas treated with intravaginal devices. In Study 1, a group of llamas ( n = 10) was treated with an intravaginal device (IVD) containing 160 ( n = 5) or 780 mg of P4 ( n = 5). Based on the results from the first study, in Study 2, females with follicles at different stages of development were treated with the IVD containing 780 mg of P4 ( n = 21) or remain untreated (control; n = 12) to evaluate the effect of P4 on follicular activity. In Study 1, the IVD containing 160 mg of P4 induced follicular turnover in 60% of females while the remaining 40% of llamas developed persistent follicles. Thus, this device controlled follicular activity in llamas, although it promotes the persistence of follicles present at start of treatment. Conversely, in both studies, the IVD containing 780 mg of P4 suppressed follicular development and hasten the emergence of a new follicular wave in all females regardless of the follicular phase at insertion. Additionally, in Study 2, this device effectively concentrated the appearance of follicles with ovulatory diameter at a definite time after treatment in comparison with control animals. In conclusion, treatment with an IVD containing 780 mg of P4 would be considered for the control of follicular activity in llamas as it ensures the presence of a young follicle with ovulatory diameter by day 6 after the end of treatment in all females. Learning Power Electronics is essential in both electrical and electronic engineering fields and the introductory courses are similar in many universities. Taking this premise into account, an educational computer-aided platform for power electronics will be presented in this paper. This educational platform includes an e-book, a set of power electronics animations, Java simulations, as well as several hands-on training sessions. The main advantages of this platform are twofold. First, all necessary teaching tools are combined on a single platform. And secondly, access to this platform is available free of charge and with no complicated registration requirements. In addition to traditional teaching techniques, the use of this platform has demonstrated an increase in student participation and has consistently improved their academic performance. Abstract: The angiotensin II receptor subtype 2 (AT2-R) has been proposed to mediate protective vascular actions after brain injury. In this study we investigated the participation of this peptide in the tolerance to cellular damage induced by preconditioning in a rat model of neonatal hypoxia–ischemia (HI). We found that injured animals present a decreased number of microvessels in the ipsilateral (IPLT) side of the brain while in the contralateral (CNLT) side the microvessel number is increased. On the contrary, in the preconditioned animals the microvessels maintained the same number as in control animals. However these vessels show a remarkable increase of the fluorescent signal when they are labeled with antiFlk-1 (VEGFR2), while the Flt-1 (VEGFR1) signal faded in both the injured and the preconditioned animals. The pharmacological blockade of the AT2-R by the drug PD123319 (1.69mM in the lateral ventricle) diminished the resilience of the microvasculature to HI injury provided by preconditioning and also the Flk-1 increase that occurred in these animals. In conclusion these results suggest an interaction of the AT2-R with VEGFR2 in the neonatal brain microvasculature that produces protective effects which are associated with injury tolerance. Objective: To describe the immediate effects of ischemic compression (IC) as a trigger point therapy in a case of a patient with neck pain. The application of IC is a safe and effective method to successfully treat elicited myofascial trigger points. The purpose of this method is to deliberate the blockage of blood in a trigger point area in order to increase local blood flow. This washes away waste products, supplies necessary oxygen and helps the affected tissue to heal. In this case study, we treated a 27-year-old female patient with a medical report of neck pain for at least four months. The physical examination revealed a neck pain and stiffness at the left side and pain increases when moving the neck. An active myofascial trigger point was found in the left trapezius muscle. The following data were recorded: active range of motion of cervical rachis measured with a cervical range of motion instrument, basal electrical activity of the left trapezius measured with electromyography, and pressure tolerance of the myofascial trigger point measured with visual analogue scale, assessing local pain evoked by the application of 2.5 kg/cm^{2} pressure with an analogue algometer. Results: Immediately after application of the IC, all measured parameters improved compared to base line. The application of IC has been shown effective in the treatment of myofascial trigger points in a patient with neck pain. The results show a relation between active range of motion of cervical rachis, basal electrical activity of the trapezius muscle and myofascial trigger point sensitivity. Conclusions: In this case of a patient with neck pain, active range of motion of cervical rachis, basal electrical activity of the trapezius muscle and myofascial trigger point sensitivity gaining short-term positive effects with the application of one single ischemic compression session. Nevertheless, randomized controlled double-blinded studies should be conducted in future to examine the effectiveness of this ischemic compression technique in case of the presence of myofascial trigger points in the neck. Abstract: Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine immediate effects of ischemic compression (IC) and ultrasound (US) for the treatment of myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) in the trapezius muscle. Methods: Sixty-six volunteers, all CEU-Cardenal Herrera University, Valencia, Spain, personnel, participated in this study. Subjects were healthy individuals, diagnosed with latent MTrPs in the trapezius muscle. Subjects were randomly placed into 3 groups: G1, which received IC treatment for MTrPs; G2, which received US; and G3 (control), which received sham US. The following data were recorded before and after each treatment: active range of motion (AROM) of cervical rachis measured with a cervical range of motion instrument, basal electrical activity (BEA) of muscle trapezius measured with surface electromyography, and pressure tolerance of MTrP measured with visual analogue scale assessing local pain evoked by the application of 2.5 kg/cm2 of pressure using a pressure analog algometer. Results: The results showed an immediate decrease in BEA of the trapezius muscle and a reduction of MTrP sensitivity after treatment with both therapeutic modalities. In the case of IC, an improvement of AROM of cervical rachis was also been obtained. Conclusion: In this group of participants, both treatments were shown to have an immediate effect on latent MTrPs. The results show a relation among AROM of cervical rachis, BEA of the trapezius muscle, and MTrP sensitivity of the trapezius muscle gaining short-term positive effects with use of IC. This study investigated the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) of a one-step self-etching adhesive to human dentin and bovine enamel following different bonding treatments. Occlusal portions of human molars and labial surfaces of bovine incisors were ground flat to provide uniform dentin and enamel surfaces, respectively. Futurabond was used following five different protocols: 1) according to the manufacturer's directions, 2) acid etched with 36% phosphoric acid (H3PO4) for 15 seconds, 3) 10% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) treated for two minutes after H3PO4-etching, 4) doubling the application time of the adhesive and 5) doubling the number of adhesive coats. Composite build-ups (6 mm in height) were constructed incrementally with Arabesk resin composite. The specimens were stored in 100% humidity for 24 hours at 37°C and sectioned into beams of 1.0 mm² cross-sectional area. Each beam was tested in tension in an Instron machine at 0.5 mm/minute, and mean μTBS data (MPa) were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and post-hoc multiple comparisons tests (α=0.05). Doubling the application time of Futurabond attained the highest μTBS to dentin; whereas, no differences among all bonding application parameters evaluated could be detected when the adhesive was applied to enamel. Abstract: Ethanol tolerance, ATPase activity and the lipid composition of the plasma membrane to study potential relationship among them were examined in five different wine yeast strains. Yeast cells were subjected to ethanol stress (4% v/v). Principal component analysis of the results revealed that the wine yeasts studied can be distinguished in terms of ATPase activity and oleic acid (C18:1), and palmitoleic acid (C16:1), in plasma membrane. Multiple regression analysis was used to identify a potential influence of some components of the plasma membrane on ethanol tolerance and ATPase activity. Based on the results, the ergosterol, oleic acid and palmitoleic acid are highly correlated with ATPase activity and ethanol tolerance. Ethanol tolerance and the ATPase activity of the plasma membrane were correlated at the 96.64% level with the oleic acid and ergosterol in plasma membrane. The Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. capensis flor yeast strain, which exhibited the highest ergosterol concentration in plasma membrane when grown in the presence of 4% v/v ethanol, was found to be the most ethanol-tolerant. Objective: To evaluate the effect of mechanical loading on the microtensile bond strength (MTBS) of five adhesive systems to dentin. Methods: Flat dentin surfaces from human molars were divided into five groups and bonded with total-etch self-priming adhesives (Single Bond, Prime&Bond NT and Prime&Bond XP), two-step self-etching primer (Clearfil SE Bond) and an all-in-one adhesive (Etch&Prime 3.0), according to the manufacturers' instructions. Composite build-ups were constructed incrementally with Tetric Ceram. After 24 hours of water storage, half the specimens were load cycled (5000 cycles, 90 N). The teeth were then sectioned into beams of 1.0 mm² cross-sectional area. Each beam was tested in tension in an Instron machine at 0.5 mm/minute. Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA and Student Newman Keuls multiple comparisons tests (p<0.05). Results: Clearfil SE Bond and Single Bond attained higher MTBS than the other three adhesives. Prime&Bond NT and Prime&Bond XP performed equally, and Etch&Prime 3.0 resulted in the lowest MTBS. After mechanical loading, MTBS decreased in all groups except Prime&Bond XP. Clearfil SE Bond, Single Bond and Prime&Bond XP obtained higher MTBS than Prime&Bond NT. Specimens bonded with Etch&Prime 3.0 resulted in premature failures and MTBS could not be measured. Clinical Relevance: When using Etch&Prime 3.0, bond structures did not withstand mechanical loading, which may have an influence on the long-term success of restorations. The article analyzes Kawesqar narrative discourse from the discourse grammar perspective. Sentence types occurring in both non-hybrid like anecdotic, historical and travelogues, and hybrid discourses like the combinations of declarative-narrative, autobiographic-anecdotic, anecdotic-travelogue, historical process and historical-travelogue discourses, are taken into account.

Summary. Forty children (20 boys and 20 girls) aged 8-16 years with no previous experience of dental visits were included in the study. Three psychological variables were determined: anxiety (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory of Children), personality (Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Junior) and intelligence (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children). The relationship between personality and intelligence factors and the levels of anxiety at the beginning of the first dental visit (before treatment) and at the end of the third visit (after treatment) were determined. There was no significant relationship between levels of dental anxiety and age. Dental anxiety both before and after treatment was higher among the girls than among the boys. Children with high intelligence quotients showed less dental anxiety at their first dental visit. There was no relationship between the children's anxiety and their own personality variables. Résumé. La peur du dentiste chez l'enfant: influence de l'intelligence et de la personnalité Quarante enfants (20 garçons et vingt filles) âgés de 8-16 ans, qui n'avaient jamais eu de soins dentaires, ont été étudiés. Trois variables psychologiques ont été déterminées à l'aide de tests: l'anxiété (inventaire des symptômes d'anxiété chez l'enfant), la personnalité (questionnaire d'Eysenck de personnalité pour jeunes) et intelligence (échelle d'intelligence de Wechsler pour enfants). Les relations entre la personnalité et l'intelligence et le niveau d'anxiété, au début de la première consultation (avant traitement) et à la fin de la troisième consultation (après traitement) on été notées. Il n'y avait pas de relation significative entre le niveau d' anxiété et l'âge. l'anxiété dentaire, avant et après traitement, était plus élevée chez les filles que chez les garçons. Les enfants, dont le quotient intellectuel était élevé, souffraient moins d'anxiété dentaire lors de la première consultation. Il n'y avait pas de relation significative entre l'anxiété des enfants et les variables de leur personnalité. Zusammenfassung. Kinder Angst vor den Zahnartzt: Der Einfluss der Intelligenz und Personalität Anhand von allgemein anerkannten Instrumenten wurden Kinder (20 Jungen und 20 Mädchen) im Alter zwischen 8 und 16 Jahren untersucht, die zuvor noch keine zahnärztliche Praxis besucht hatten. Es wurden die folgenden psychologischen Variablen analisiert: Ängstlichkeit (Test STAIC), Persönlichkeit (Test EPQ-J) und Intelligenz (Test WISC). Zwischen diesen psychologischen Factoren und der Ausprägung der Ängstlichkeit wurde eine Beziehung vor und nach unterschiedliechen zahnärztlichen Behandlungen hergestellt. Es besteht keine Beziehung zwischen der Ausprägung der Ängstliichekeit und dem Alter. Offensichtlich geben Kinder mit hohem Intelligenzkoefizient weniger Ängstlichkeit bei ihrem ersten zahnärztlichen Besuch Zu erkennen als diejenigen mit niedrigem Koefizient. Die Ängslichkeit vor dem Zahnarzt ist in der Gruppe der Mädchen höher ausgeprägt als bei den Jungen. Es kann keine Beziehung hergestellt werden zwischen der Ängstglichkeit der Kinder und der Variablen, die die eigene Persönlichkeit bestimmen. Resumen. Ansiedad dental en niños: influencia de los factores personalidad e inteligencia Se estudiaron 40 niños (20 varones y 20 hembras) de 8-16 años de adad sin visitas previas al consultorio dental. Se analizaron las siguientes variables psicológicas: ansiedad (test STAIC: State-Trait Anxiety Inventory of Children), personalidad (test EPQ-J: Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Junior), e inteligencia (test de WISC: Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children). No se detectó relación entre estos factores psicológicos y los niveles de ansiedad y la edad. La ansiedad fue mayor en las niñas que en los niños. Los niños con alto coeficiente intelectual manifestaron menos ansiedad en su primera visia dental que aquellos con dicho coeficiente más bajo. Aerobiological monitoring of Olea europaea L. is of great interest in the Mediterranean basin because olive pollen is one of the most represented pollen types of the airborne spectrum for the Mediterranean region, and olive pollen is considered one of the major cause of pollinosis in this region. The main aim of this study was to develop an airborne-pollen map based on the Pollen Index across a 4-year period (2008–2011), to provide a continuous geographic map for pollen intensity that will have practical applications from the agronomical and allergological points of view. For this purpose, the main predictor variable was an index based on the distribution and abundance of potential sources of pollen emission, including intrinsic information about the general atmospheric patterns of pollen dispersal. In addition, meteorological variables were included in the modeling, together with spatial interpolation, to allow the definition of a spatial model of the Pollen Index from the main olive cultivation areas in the Mediterranean region. The results show marked differences with respect to the dispersal patterns associated to the altitudinal gradient. The findings indicate that areas located at an altitude above 300 m a.s.l. receive greater amounts of olive pollen from shorter-distance pollen sources (maximum influence, 27 km) with respect to areas lower than 300 m a.s.l. The compilation of water, sediment, rock, and condensed gas data of arsenic (As) in the Altiplano-Puna of Chile reveals a link between its natural enrichment and volcanic activity, high crustal thicknesses, and regional structures. Two zones were studied which encompass the Altiplano-Puna and western lowlands of Chile: the Northern Zone (including Los Pintados, Surire, and Huasco) and Southern Zone (including Pedernales, Grande, and Laguna Verde). A positive correlation was found between average As concentrations in saline and brackish water of salt flats and crustal thicknesses of the two studied zones with heightened values to the east (up to 25 mg∙L−1 of dissolved As in water and a 64 km depth to the Mohorovicic discontinuity). Furthermore, in the studied Altiplano-Puna salt flats, surrounding Mio-Pliocene to Quaternary felsic and intermediate volcanic outcrops are abundant and As is well correlated with other dissolved components (e.g. Li and B). Sediments show extreme As values at punctual locations within the Altiplano-Puna, where the crust is thick, recent volcanic and hydrothermal activity is present, and regional faults are found. Volcanic rocks and condensed gas in the Altiplano-Puna are also enriched with As (up to 221 and 1234 mg∙kg−1 respectively). In this tectonic environment, it is hypothesized that volcanism represents an important source of As and the thick continental crust can provide a large reservoir of As that can be leached by rising thermal fluids. Regional scale fault systems also can allow for preferential upwelling and the heightened concentration of As in fractures. Hydrological processes at the surface transport dissolved As to lower elevation regions through groundwater in aquifers and surface water in perennial rivers, creeks, and gorges, diluting element concentrations where significant evapoconcentration is not present. In the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andean cordillera (CVZ), thickening of the continental crust during the last 30 Ma led to the production of increasingly differentiated magmas. Better constrain on the interactions between ascending magmas and the thick continental crust are needed to understand the contamination processes and their implications on the geochemical diversity of arc magmas. Lascar volcano figures among the most active Quaternary volcano of the CVZ and yet geochemical studies on its volcanic products remain scarce. We lead major-, trace elements and Pb–Sr isotopes measurements on 10 new Lascar samples representative of the different petrologic types (andesitic to dacitic). 206Pb/204Pb (18.770–18.823), 207Pb/204Pb (15.636–15.655), 208Pb/204Pb (38.711–38.809) and 87Sr/86Sr isotope ratios (0.705731–0.706564) show small variations within the previously defined isotopic field of Lascar. In Pb–Sr or Pb–Pb isotope space, the data points show a triangular distribution that requires the contribution of at least three end-member components at the source of Lascar magmas. We built up a two-stages three-components assimilation fractional crystallization model (AFC) that reproduces the compositional range of Lascar magmas. It allows us to constrain the composition and nature of the three end-member components: (BA) a common mantellic source with low 87Sr/86Sr (<0.70575), low 206Pb/204Pb (<18.768), 207Pb/204Pb (<15.637) and 208Pb/204Pb (<38.711), (LC) a lower crust and/or slab component radiogenic in Sr (87Sr/86Sr > 0.70656) and in Pb (206Pb/204Pb > 18.82; 207Pb/204Pb > 15.647; 208Pb/204Pb > 38.79), (UC) a felsic upper continental crust (>65.1 wt% of SiO 2) with similar Sr–Pb isotope composition as LC (87Sr/86Sr > 0.70643; 206Pb/204Pb > 18.823; 207Pb/204Pb > 15.655; 208Pb/204Pb > 38.809). Both BA and LC components occur in lavas with <57 wt% SiO 2. This model predicts that Lascar magmas assimilated ≤30% of lower crust and ≤29% of upper crust. Our conclusions are in good agreement with the CVZ literature that reports the contribution of three ubiquitous end-member components at the source of CVZ magmas, with similar natures and origins. Background: Periodontal disease (PD) is a chronic inflammatory disease of multifactorial origin that affects the supporting tissues of the tooth. According to WHO in 2022, severe periodontal disease will affect around 19% of the adult population worldwide. Its risk factors include the presence of periodontopathogenic bacteria in biofilm and the susceptibility of the host's immune system, among others. Preterm birth is defined as birth occurring before 37 weeks of gestational age. It also has a multifactorial origin and it's associated with risk factors such as intrauterine and extrauterine infections. There is a possibility that periodontal disease in pregnant women increases the risk of preterm birth through hematogenous pathways or the presence and intervention of inflammatory mediators., Material and Methods: Through a systematic review of existing scientific articles from 2014 to 2024, five randomized clinical trials were selected, including a total of 1984 pregnant patients diagnosed with periodontal disease. Half of these patients received non-surgical treatment, while the other half did not, aiming to evaluate a possible association between periodontal disease and/or its treatment and the occurrence of preterm birth. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane "RoB 2" tool, and finally, a meta-analysis was conducted to compare the results obtained in the selected studies., Results: Four articles showed a trend favoring non-surgical periodontal treatment as a preventive measure for preterm birth. These articles accounted for 92.2% of the total weight, while the remaining 7.85% corresponded to the single article that did not favor the treatment. However, none of the articles showed statistically significant results., Conclusions: There is no demonstrated association between periodontal disease in pregnant women and the incidence of preterm birth. On the other hand, there is a slightly favorable trend towards non-surgical periodontal treatment during pregnancy as a measure to reduce the incidence of preterm birth, but it's not statistically significant. To obtain a definitive answer, more randomized clinical trials following similar study and design parameters are needed.

Patients present a wide range of clinical severities in response severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection, but the underlying molecular and cellular reasons why clinical outcomes vary so greatly within the population remains unknown. Here, we report that negative clinical outcomes in severely ill patients were associated with divergent RNA transcriptome profiles in peripheral immune cells compared with mild cases during the first weeks after disease onset. Protein-protein interaction analysis indicated that early-responding cytotoxic natural killer cells were associated with an effective clearance of the virus and a less severe outcome. This innate immune response was associated with the activation of select cytokine-cytokine receptor pathways and robust Th1/Th2 cell differentiation profiles. In contrast, severely ill patients exhibited a dysregulation between innate and adaptive responses affiliated with divergent Th1/Th2 profiles and negative outcomes.
